- 0:00There's two clips going viral of Clinton
- 0:01and Obama. Oh, what's this here? I
- 0:03understand we are fighting an
- 0:05ideological battle that is as old as
- 0:08time.
- 0:08>> Yep, that's right.
- 0:10>> There are those of us who are more
- 0:11comfortable in a more open, tolerant
- 0:15world. And there are those who have
- 0:17their concerns about it because they
- 0:19worry about the impact on existing
- 0:21institutions like the family, community,
- 0:24and others. Yes, migration has been a
- 0:27huge clash point. More people were
- 0:31deported under my husband and Barack
- 0:34Obama without killing American citizens
- 0:37and without putting children into
- 0:39detention camps Oh, I thought Obama did
- 0:42that cuz he even made the camps. People
- 0:44did die under ICE. 56 individuals died
- 0:47while in ICE custody. This is during the
- 0:49Obama administration. There is a
- 0:51legitimate reason to have a debate about
- 0:54things like migration. It went too far,
- 0:57it's been disruptive and destabilizing,
- 1:00and it needs to be fixed in a humane way
- 1:03with
- 1:03>> What is the How do you humanely separate
- 1:06a family and then send that person who's
- 1:09not supposed to be here back to their
- 1:10country? We need to do it in a humane
- 1:12way is just code for we don't want to
- 1:14deal with immigration. And it before you
- 1:15talk about oh, well, you could do it
- 1:17more easily, we did do it more easily.
- 1:19We allowed people to self-deport. We
- 1:21give them money to self-deport. They
- 1:23don't do that. They know they're here
- 1:25illegally. They stay here and then they
- 1:27fight with the police. But what is also
- 1:29true is that we're a nation of laws. We
- 1:32have borders and we've got to figure out
- 1:34an immigration policy that is fair and
- 1:37is enforced in a sensible way. You know,
- 1:40we've got to accommodate the reality
- 1:41that the majority of the American people
- 1:44think that there's a difference between
- 1:45somebody who's a US citizen and somebody
- 1:46who's not and that they want
- 1:48>> using another qualifying statement. The
- 1:50majority of the American people believe.
- 1:52He's not using his own words. He's
- 1:54looking and paraphrasing other people so
- 1:56he can effectively not have ownership of
- 1:59this idea himself. Sometimes I think
- 2:02what happens in the online debate is if
- 2:04somebody suggests, "Well, we have to
- 2:05have some immigration enforcement."
- 2:07Then, somebody's going to point at that
- 2:09child and say, "Well, so you don't care
- 2:10about that kid. So, you must be a bad
- 2:13person." The same would be true, let's
- 2:14say, here in Los Angeles around the
- 2:16homeless issue. I think morally,
- 2:18ethically speaking, it is an atrocity
- 2:21that in a country this wealthy, we have
- 2:23people on the streets. Okay, problem
- 2:25identified. Go get them.
- 2:27>> We simply say, "You know what? It's not
- 2:28their fault, and so they should be able
- 2:30to do whatever they want." That's a
- 2:31losing political strategy. That a lot of
- 2:34>> This is another time he's not giving his
- 2:35own opinion. Talking about this as a
- 2:36definitional thing. times is the
- 2:38arguments that are taking place, but
- 2:40they become sort of performative, and
- 2:44people start He's right. He's sure.
- 2:46>> saying, "Oh, you're selling out, you
- 2:47know, you're being impractical." So,
- 2:49like, let me just go ahead explain it.
- 2:51So, this is what you do with the
- 2:52homeless people. You just go around,
- 2:53round them up, put them in some house,
- 2:54put them in some area. If they're
- 2:55crackheads, you put them in a rehab.
- 2:57That's it, problem solved. This, by the
- 2:58way, this is the moral and ethical thing
- 3:00to do. This is the main thing that
- 3:01annoys the [ __ ] out of me. Whenever I
- 3:03see any of this like, you know, Obama
- 3:05saying this, or Hillary Clinton saying
- 3:08this. That's a losing political
- 3:10strategy.
- 3:10>> It's a losing political strategy because
- 3:12it's [ __ ] [ __ ] That's the reason
- 3:14why it's a losing political strategy.
