- 0:01Can you imagine studying in a cave for 6
- 0:03hours daily? While some children
- 0:05complain about walking a few streets to
- 0:07school, other students around the world
- 0:09live educational experiences that seem
- 0:11straight out of a science fiction movie.
- 0:13As some educational institutions break
- 0:15all traditional patterns, get ready to
- 0:17discover the five most extraordinary
- 0:19schools on the planet, where education
- 0:21knows no limits, and each school day is
- 0:23a unique adventure. Let's begin.
- 0:30Floating school in Cambodia.
- 0:33The next no less exotic building is an
- 0:35educational institution located on
- 0:37water. However, in this region, this
- 0:39phenomenon doesn't surprise anyone as
- 0:41houses, shops, and other buildings
- 0:43literally float here. This is about the
- 0:45floating village Kong Luang, which is
- 0:47located on Lake Tonlas in Cambodia. The
- 0:50school has about 60 students, 40 of whom
- 0:52are orphans, whose parents died during
- 0:54fishing. In the educational institution,
- 0:56there is only one large classroom where
- 0:58children study and spend their free
- 1:00time. Children go to school swimming in
- 1:02special containers that look like boats.
- 1:11Teraset Underground School. Despite all
- 1:15the fantastic nature of this project,
- 1:17Teraset School is indeed located
- 1:19underground in the city of Reston,
- 1:21Virginia. This educational institution
- 1:23is over 40 years old and was built in
- 1:25the 1970s, a period when America
- 1:27suffered an energy crisis and city
- 1:29authorities couldn't think of anything
- 1:31more economical than building a school
- 1:33that would heat itself. For this
- 1:35purpose, they removed an earthn hill,
- 1:37built the building, and covered it again
- 1:39with earth, providing not only for the
- 1:40school to heat itself, but also a
- 1:42cooling system.
- 1:51Cave schools in China.
- 1:55China never ceases to amaze us with
- 1:57economic miracles. One of the premises
- 1:59of this phenomenon can rightfully be
- 2:01considered these people's thirst for
- 2:02knowledge. Proof of this is the unique
- 2:04school in Guijou Province. The Meow
- 2:07ethnicity indigenous population of this
- 2:09region lives quite modestly. The low
- 2:11standard of living didn't allow these
- 2:13people for a long time to obtain
- 2:14education and only in 1984 was the first
- 2:17school opened. Since there were no funds
- 2:19for school construction, it was decided
- 2:21to locate the educational institution in
- 2:23the nearest cave. Here, classrooms, a
- 2:26sports field, and a rest area were
- 2:28equipped. Initially, the school was
- 2:30designed for one class. However, today
- 2:32its students are 186 children. And this
- 2:35despite the fact that students have to
- 2:36travel 6 hours each day to get to
- 2:39school.
- 2:45Canin Nomadic School. The children who
- 2:48study in this school have had incredible
- 2:50luck. And it's not because they have a
- 2:52modern educational institution, but
- 2:54because they have the opportunity to
- 2:56live with their parents and receive
- 2:58classical school education. Until
- 3:00recently, children from nomadic tribes
- 3:02in Russia's northern regions were forced
- 3:04to either study and live in boarding
- 3:05schools for months without seeing their
- 3:07relatives or not receive education at
- 3:09all. The nomadic school can rightfully
- 3:11be called the smallest school in terms
- 3:13of number of students and staff. Such an
- 3:15educational institution has six to eight
- 3:17students where two or three teachers
- 3:19work. However, this doesn't prevent the
- 3:21children from obtaining the same
- 3:22knowledge, skills, and abilities as
- 3:25their sedentary peers. The nomadic
- 3:27school is equipped with satellite
- 3:28internet which allows communication with
- 3:30the outside world.
- 3:37Orestad open school in Copenhagen.
- 3:41This school can truly be considered a
- 3:43work of modern architectural art. And
- 3:45not only the building but also the
- 3:47character of teaching here differs from
- 3:48the classical school. In the premises of
- 3:51this educational institution, there are
- 3:53practically no internal partitions, and
- 3:55there are no classrooms in their usual
- 3:57concept. The heart of the school is a
- 3:59huge spiral staircase that connects the
- 4:01four floors of the building. Throughout
- 4:03the school, there are soft sofas and
- 4:05ottomans where students rest and do
- 4:07their homework.
