1. 0:01hello everyone and welcome back to Nate
2. 0:03the hoof guy today's video we have got a
3. 0:06heifer favoring her right front foot and
4. 0:09in no time you're gonna find out exactly
5. 0:12why
6. 0:15the first thing we need to do here is we
7. 0:17need to give this claw trimmed up before
8. 0:19we tackle this area of discomfort
9. 0:32foreign
10. 0:38that's packed full of debris
11. 0:43the most common question I get is why
12. 0:45don't you wash this foot before you even
13. 0:47get started working on it and this is a
14. 0:49perfect example of why I don't no matter
15. 0:51how well I could have cleaned the
16. 0:53outside of that claw could have never
17. 0:54possibly gotten in and cleaned this all
18. 0:56out it would have been a wasted step
19. 1:11when you see bubbles like that it means
20. 1:13we have fluid up underneath this sole so
21. 1:16let's keep working
22. 1:33once again you can see how much more
23. 1:35debris is still trapped up inside there
24. 1:52give you a little bit different angle
25. 1:54here you can actually see the steam
26. 1:55rising up out of this claws we're
27. 1:57working on it as we zoom in here you'll
28. 1:59be able to see how much more debris is
29. 2:01still left up in there and that's what
30. 2:02we got to finish working on now
31. 2:23now you can get a much clearer view of
32. 2:25exactly what we're dealing with here
33. 2:26we've got an area
34. 2:28of digital dermatitis up inside that
35. 2:30pocket we need to get this all cleaned
36. 2:32out and treated to get her walking back
37. 2:34to normal
38. 2:44the next key step in this process is to
39. 2:46get all this overhanging horn removed so
40. 2:48that we can get our treatment exactly
41. 2:50where it needs to be
42. 2:55even now you can see there's still some
43. 2:57debris there I've got a small little
44. 2:59Stone right here
45. 3:00but in short order we'll have this all
46. 3:02cleaned up
47. 3:09now you probably thought you'd see in
48. 3:11the extent of this problem
49. 3:12not so fast the problem that actually
50. 3:15caused all this is that a little crack
51. 3:17in the white line that defect is what
52. 3:20allowed this whole problem to happen at
53. 3:22digital dermatitis simply a complication
54. 3:24from that defect
55. 3:43I'm using that hook here to gently lift
56. 3:46up on that loose horn so I can remove it
57. 3:47safely
58. 3:58foreign
59. 4:21you may have been asking yourself are
60. 4:22you going to leave that other claw the
61. 4:24way it is of course not we're going to
62. 4:25get that trimmed up now we're going to
63. 4:27get a rubber black glued to that and
64. 4:28that's going to allow that inside claw
65. 4:30to rest
66. 4:33I've been getting questions asking is
67. 4:36this new wheel helping the block
68. 4:38retention
69. 4:39I can tell you this
70. 4:4160 of the time
71. 4:43it works every time
72. 4:46in all seriousness though I'm not sure
73. 4:48yet it's going to take a couple of
74. 4:49months of testing I'll be able to tell
75. 4:51how many blocks are still on how many
76. 4:53blocks I need to remove and that'll tell
77. 4:54me if my retention has improved but
78. 4:57we're not done yet let's get this block
79. 4:58in place get this area cleaned out and
80. 5:01finish trimming this foot
81. 5:09as we work in closer here you can see
82. 5:11the area that still needs addressing up
83. 5:13toward the top there got some debris
84. 5:15there yet I'm going to finish trimming
85. 5:16that area out so we can get our
86. 5:18treatment up in there
87. 5:58now we can get that salicylic acid wrap
88. 6:01in place that is going to take care of
89. 6:02that digital dermatitis we're going to
90. 6:04get that wrapped up get that foot down
91. 6:06we're going to let her test drive this
92. 6:07new pad and see if she likes it
