11. 0:18after trimming just over 50 cows and
12. 0:21barely having any problems whatsoever
13. 0:23this cow saved herself till the end
14. 0:25she's come in with an incredibly sore
15. 0:27front right foot
16. 0:28as you can see straight away she was
17. 0:30already bleeding
18. 0:32from the heel of this fruit her feet are
19. 0:34incredibly dry
20. 0:35which means they're also incredibly hard
21. 0:37that's because because she's been in
22. 0:39pain
23. 0:40she's been on a sawdust bedded pen for
24. 0:42the past week while she's received
25. 0:44pain medication until i could arrive at
26. 0:47the farm and treat her
27. 0:48so that's exactly what we're gonna do
28. 0:50during this trim you'll see it go
29. 0:52from being bad to worse to really bad
30. 0:56and then it gets unbelievably bad this
31. 0:59is a seriously graphic trim i don't cut
32. 1:02into any flesh whatsoever but as you can
33. 1:04see
34. 1:05it's already bleeding so as we uncover
35. 1:07more loose and detached horn
36. 1:09it only gets worse this is an extremely
37. 1:13graphic video guys
38. 1:14so if you don't like that kind of thing
39. 1:16now is your chance to tune out
40. 1:40because your feet are so dry and so hard
41. 1:42i alternate between using the knife
42. 1:44and the grinder i use the grinder to
43. 1:46take away the bulk of the material
44. 1:48because using the knife and having to
45. 1:50put so much force through it can
46. 1:52actually be a little bit dangerous
47. 1:53because when you're pushing
48. 1:54so hard on a knife it can slip and then
49. 1:57cause unwanted cuts
50. 1:59and damage to the cow's foot so as you
51. 2:01can see we pair away
52. 2:03very carefully with the grinder until we
53. 2:05need the knife
54. 2:06to do the finer details of the trim
55. 2:10we've both bond a plastic block onto the
56. 2:12cow's foot to lift the sore digit
57. 2:14off the ground plastic blocks are great
58. 2:16because they can last
59. 2:17a much longer amount of time than a
60. 2:20wooden one
61. 2:21and this is gonna take some time to heal
62. 2:24once the blocks in place we really get
63. 2:26stuck in about this trim
64. 2:28and as you can see things are starting
65. 2:30to look a little worse
66. 2:34for anybody wondering yes this
67. 2:37absolutely
68. 2:48stinks
69. 2:51the whole of this cow's food is infected
70. 2:53with digital dermatitis
71. 2:55that's why it's got that kind of
72. 2:56granular look about it and it's why the
73. 2:59soul has completely separated away from
74. 3:01the aquarium
75. 3:03i touched it there i didn't cut it i
76. 3:05literally touched it and it's bleeding
77. 3:08as you've just seen trimming a cow's
78. 3:10feet like this is incredibly hard
79. 3:12i literally touched the corium with the
80. 3:14back of my knife and it began
81. 3:16to bleed there was no cutting involved
82. 3:18no grazing no slicing no accidents
83. 3:21i just touched the corium and it began
84. 3:23to bleed because of that deep infection
85. 3:26of digital dermatitis regardless of how
86. 3:29hard it is to do
87. 3:30we still need to make sure we remove all
88. 3:32of that loose and disconnected horn
89. 3:34as you can see me doing now it's
90. 3:36actually a really satisfying process
91. 3:39but it's also a vital one if we're ever
92. 3:41to truly heal this car's foot
93. 3:43which by the way i'm confident we can
94. 4:09all of the stuff i've removed has
95. 4:10completely been detached
96. 4:12from our corium this is our aquarium
97. 4:14here showing through
98. 4:16it's completely infected with digital
99. 4:18dermatitis
100. 4:19but we're going to fix that spraying the
101. 4:21foot down with iodine like this
102. 4:23will help to kill any of the bugs that
103. 4:25are on the surface
104. 4:26and it'll help penetrate into that
105. 4:28dermatitis and kill the outer layers of
106. 4:30the skin
107. 4:31so this is embryonic's magical paste and
108. 4:34you guys always
109. 4:35ask me in the comments do i still use it
110. 4:37yes i do on probably big problems like
111. 4:40this so we've got
112. 4:41white line abscess going on and it's
113. 4:43covered in digital dermatitis
114. 4:45so this will help both of those things
115. 4:47heal i want to make sure it's
116. 4:49pushed all the way into all of those
117. 4:52orbits
118. 4:53wrap it up i've trimmed over 50 cows
119. 4:57today and this is only really the second
120. 4:59one that's got any sort of problem the
121. 5:01other one was a very minor ailment
122. 5:03it just goes to show the level of
123. 5:04commitment these farmers have
124. 5:07to caring for their cows and just like
125. 5:10that
126. 5:10this count is over and done with and
127. 5:12we'll be revisiting her in two weeks
128. 5:14time to see what progress
