1. 0:00The people I've met in the SEAL Teams
2. 0:02are some of the most interesting and
3. 0:03just brilliant people. Like there was
4. 0:05this guy, he was just a total adrenaline
5. 0:07junkie, and he was just known for just
6. 0:09like getting hurt all the time. We had a
7. 0:11skydiving block where like one of the
8. 0:13things you're taught is if you're under
9. 0:15canopy, and even if the canopy is
10. 0:17degraded in some way, if you can land
11. 0:19it, you don't ditch it. And so I
12. 0:20remember there was one night where we
13. 0:22did it's called a wall locker jump. We
14. 0:24have like 100 lb of gear on in this
15. 0:26stupid pack that you like dangle down by
16. 0:28this long cord. It's like a joke. It's
17. 0:30what you would do with like a high
18. 0:31altitude jump where you you need every
19. 0:32piece of kit for every environment. It's
20. 0:34designed to be [music] like we're going
21. 0:35to give you all the stuff and we're
22. 0:37going to see if you can jump. And so
23. 0:37it's like really sketchy to land under
24. 0:39the best of conditions. And his chute
25. 0:41was all jacked up. And like normally we
26. 0:43have radios that once you're sort of low
27. 0:44enough to the ground you can call it in
28. 0:46and be like, "Yo, I have an issue." And
29. 0:47we're in training. Doesn't call it in.
30. 0:49He can only turn the chute one way. The
31. 0:51other side is fully compromised. And
32. 0:53basically the way skydiving any
33. 0:54parachute works is that when you pull
34. 0:56down on the toggles, it flares your
35. 0:57parachute and you slow yourself down.
36. 0:59And he basically couldn't flare his
37. 1:01parachute. And he's torching towards the
38. 1:03ground. And it's night time. He can't
39. 1:04even see the drop zone. Not even on
40. 1:06night vision. Just night time. And so
41. 1:08he's blasting in with his 100 lb of gear
42. 1:10and he just goes, "Coming in hot."
43. 1:13Blasts into the ground. I think he broke
44. 1:14a broke his ankle or something. Just got
45. 1:16up. He's like, "Yeah, whatever." But
46. 1:17like me? I am a Navy SEAL and I wouldn't
47. 1:20have done that. I probably would have
48. 1:21ditched the main.
