  1. 0:00When looking at the world of well-known
  2. 0:02birds, most would agree that they have
  3. 0:04reputations which precede them. Stories
  4. 0:06of their attributes and characteristics
  5. 0:08which we have passed down from
  6. 0:10generation to generation in order to
  7. 0:12teach our children. Think of the eagle
  8. 0:14with its strength, stature, and pride.
  9. 0:17The hawk with its precision, awareness,
  10. 0:19and hunting ability. The parrot with its
  11. 0:22aptitude, intelligence, and capability
  12. 0:24to closely observe. How incredible it
  13. 0:27would be to come across a bird who
  14. 0:28possesses nearly all of these qualities.
  15. 0:31Well, there is such a bird, but for
  16. 0:33many, their preconceived notions block
  17. 0:36them from realizing the magnificence of
  18. 0:39this aven. Today, we're talking about
  19. 0:41ravens and how you should not feel
  20. 0:42hesitation in using them in your decor.
  21. 0:45If you're a returning subscriber, hit
  22. 0:47the thumbs up. If you're new here,
  23. 0:49hopefully by the end of this video, you
  24. 0:51will be a subscriber. Remember that if
  25. 0:53you want my help in designing one of
  26. 0:55your rooms at home, you can have that
  27. 0:57help by following the link in the
  28. 0:59description. For hundreds of years,
  29. 1:01people have associated ravens with
  30. 1:03dread, dark omens, and misfortune to
  31. 1:06come. Their all black appearance, from
  32. 1:08feathers to eyes to feet, along with
  33. 1:10folktales of their connections to
  34. 1:12witches and rogue behavior, has made the
  35. 1:14prejudice fairly easy to accept. But for
  36. 1:17a minute, let's try to look at these
  37. 1:19creatures through a different lens and
  38. 1:21see if we can view them in a different
  39. 1:22light. In Norse mythology, Odin had two
  40. 1:25ravens which sat upon his shoulders
  41. 1:28named Hugan and Munan. Their jobs were
  42. 1:30to scout the world and return to Odin,
  43. 1:32bringing back reports of what they had
  44. 1:34found and seen. The meaning of their
  45. 1:36names were thought and memory. So why
  46. 1:39would the Vikings decide to have two of
  47. 1:42the All Father's closest companions
  48. 1:44named Thought and Memory? And why were
  49. 1:46they chosen to have the task of scouting
  50. 1:49and the judgment of character? Ravens
  51. 1:51along with their crow cousins have
  52. 1:53extremely high intelligence with the
  53. 1:55largest brainto body mass ratio among
  54. 1:57all birds. There have been studies
  55. 1:59completed which confirm their ability to
  56. 2:01recognize human faces and remember the
  57. 2:04actions of those humans, leading them to
  58. 2:06form grudges or alliances with
  59. 2:09individual people. They have the ability
  60. 2:11to make a perceived evaluation of a
  61. 2:14person's character and what they're
  62. 2:16likely to do in the future. Vikings also
  63. 2:18used ravens while sailing and traveling.
  64. 2:21These birds have incredible eyesight,
  65. 2:23which allows them to see far into the
  66. 2:25distance, spotting land long before
  67. 2:27humans could ever hope to. This also
  68. 2:29helps you to understand why ravens are
  69. 2:31sometimes used to represent the power of
  70. 2:34foresight into the future or allseeing
  71. 2:36eyes as they were used in Game of
  72. 2:38Thrones. By now, you may be wondering
  73. 2:40where I'm going with this. Is this a
  74. 2:42design video or is this the Discovery
  75. 2:44Channel? What I'm attempting to do is
  76. 2:47provide the support and permission to
  77. 2:49those of you who have thought about
  78. 2:50using Raven Decor, but were unsure in
  79. 2:53doing so due to the underlying meaning.
  80. 2:56Among life on this planet, the use of a
  81. 2:58tool to achieve a goal requires high
  82. 3:00intelligence, and there are not very
  83. 3:02many creatures who do this. Ravens not
  84. 3:05only do this, but take it one step
  85. 3:07further in a practice called metatol
  86. 3:09use, where they will use a tool to make
  87. 3:12or obtain a better tool to then achieve
  88. 3:15a desired outcome. This requires a level
  89. 3:18of thought to envision a goal which is
  90. 3:20not yet present and create a plan to
  91. 3:23obtain that goal. Other than humans,
  92. 3:26this is beyond rare to find in the
  93. 3:28animal kingdom. If you're a goal chaser,
  94. 3:31understand your connection to this
  95. 3:33animal. So, next time you see a crow or
  96. 3:35a raven, take note of their qualities
  97. 3:36and their behaviors without
  98. 3:38preconception. See how they stand with
  99. 3:40confidence as they are aware of their
  100. 3:42own intelligence. Watch their eyes as
  101. 3:44they observe activity around them,
  102. 3:46interpreting the actions of their
  103. 3:47surroundings. Listen to their
  104. 3:49communications and that how they have
  105. 3:51different dialects. Befriend one if you
  106. 3:53can get close enough and realize that
  107. 3:55they are fiercely loyal. Using ravens in
  108. 3:58your home decor is not strictly for
  109. 4:00those who want the slightly spooky
  110. 4:02theme, but those that want to add an
  111. 4:04element of studiousness, a
  112. 4:06problem-solving atmosphere, those that
  113. 4:08would like the mystery of the mind in
  114. 4:10their room, those who appreciate the
  115. 4:12demeanor of an intellectual, or those
  116. 4:15who hold value in forethought. If you've
  117. 4:17thought about using blackbird artwork,
  118. 4:19statues, or feathers in the collection
  119. 4:22of your decor, and it fits nicely, I say
  120. 4:25go for it. See you on the next one.
