  1. 0:00now Nietzsche said back in the 1800s
  2. 0:02late 1800s that
  3. 0:07after he said that God was dead
  4. 0:09and I suppose that would also mean the
  5. 0:11theory that of suffering that I outlined
  6. 0:13at the beginning that is at the basis of
  7. 0:16judeo-christian civilization that God
  8. 0:18was dead and that people had killed him
  9. 0:20and that we'd never find enough water to
  10. 0:22wash away the blood it's a paraphrase
  11. 0:24but I've got the basic message right and
  12. 0:26he also said there'll be two
  13. 0:28consequences of that
  14. 0:30nihilism
  15. 0:32because there's no Transcendent meaning
  16. 0:34and a move to totalitarianism because
  17. 0:36people can't tolerate
  18. 0:38nihilism
  19. 0:40he said the most likely Pathway to
  20. 0:42totalitarianism would be
  21. 0:44communism essentially he didn't quite
  22. 0:46use those words but
  23. 0:48he meant that
  24. 0:50he the words are close enough
  25. 0:52uh
  26. 0:54he said socialism but I'm going to use
  27. 0:56communism to distinguish and distinguish
  28. 0:58it from democratic socialism and he said
  29. 1:00that probably tens of hundreds tens of
  30. 1:03millions of people would die in the 20th
  31. 1:04century as we played out that experiment
  32. 1:06and then he said but it might be worth
  33. 1:08it if we learn something from it
  34. 1:11rough man I mean and and unbelievable
  35. 1:14like I cannot figure out how in the
  36. 1:16world he knew that that was going to
  37. 1:17happen especially so far in advance but
  38. 1:20Dostoevsky knew the same thing he wrote
  39. 1:22this book called The Devils or the
  40. 1:24possessed you could read that that's a
  41. 1:27great book it takes about 150 pages to
  42. 1:29get going but once it like everything
  43. 1:31everything snaps together after that you
  44. 1:34know and then it moves and it's
  45. 1:37basically his prophecy about it's an
  46. 1:40examination of the kind of person who
  47. 1:42had Arisen in the aftermath of the death
  48. 1:44of God in Russia who would lead the
  49. 1:47Communist Revolution that's essentially
  50. 1:49it it's brilliant it's it's it's
  51. 1:51terrifying and it's a great intro to
  52. 1:54solzhenitzen's Gulag archipelago which
  53. 1:56describes what did happen when those
  54. 1:59sort of people took over the revolution
  55. 2:01so let's look at what happened after the
  56. 2:04revolution
  57. 2:05and we might say well this how about we
  58. 2:07replicate the experiment a few times
  59. 2:09because you know how it is if you're
  60. 2:10running a scientific experiment you want
  61. 2:13to find out
  62. 2:13what something does if you allow it to
  63. 2:16behave you don't want to just run it
  64. 2:18once because well maybe there was
  65. 2:20something specific about those
  66. 2:21conditions that led to the outcome you
  67. 2:23want to generalize it across multiple
  68. 2:26circumstances so we might say well let's
  69. 2:28take this set of ideas
  70. 2:30and let's uh
  71. 2:33let's run it on large scale over a very
  72. 2:35long period of time in a variety of
  73. 2:37exceptionally diverse cultures and
  74. 2:39languages
  75. 2:42so let's do that
  76. 2:44okay well we could first start with the
  77. 2:47with the Soviets
  78. 2:50people even now because it's like the
  79. 2:53100th anniversary of the Russian
  80. 2:54Revolution are celebrating Lenin it's
  81. 2:57like that's not good
  82. 2:58that's like celebrating Hitler
  83. 3:01okay I'm dead serious about that
  84. 3:04it's not good and the fact that people
  85. 3:07can dare to think that that's okay means
  86. 3:10that there's something wrong with the
  87. 3:12way that we look at history
  88. 3:14Lenin was a monster
  89. 3:16and if you want to know about that you
  90. 3:18can read Soulja Nixon's writings about
  91. 3:19Lenin because the Communist apologists
  92. 3:22say well it wasn't Landon Len was a good
  93. 3:23guy he was all motivated by love of the
  94. 3:26working class it's like well his
  95. 3:28henchman was Stalin
  96. 3:30and if your henchman is Stalin you're
  97. 3:32not a good guy
  98. 3:34and and Lennon was around during the
  99. 3:37early collectivization and if you read
  100. 3:39what he wrote you'll find out that he is
  101. 3:42perfectly willing to have any number of
  102. 3:43people die as long as his ideological
  103. 3:46system could be brought into being so
  104. 3:48there's no celebrating Lenin there's no
  105. 3:50we're cool young Marxist hip
  106. 3:53revolutionaries and he's our Idol it's
  107. 3:56like there's none of that
  108. 3:58not if you know anything not if you're
  109. 4:01decent
  110. 4:03well there was death of the kulaks I
  111. 4:05told you about that there was a
  112. 4:06Ukrainian famine that's six million gone
  113. 4:08there there was the rise of the gulag
  114. 4:10State because it turned out that Russia
  115. 4:12the Soviet Union couldn't run on the
  116. 4:14principles that it had that it had uh uh
  117. 4:18laid down a sacrosanct they just didn't
  118. 4:20work so you had to enslave everybody and
  119. 4:22run your economy
  120. 4:24as a slave state essentially uh
  121. 4:29and try not to kill the people in the
  122. 4:30gulags so fast that you can't suck some
  123. 4:33productive labor out of them there's the
  124. 4:35death of tens of millions of people we
  125. 4:37don't even know the estimates range from
  126. 4:3915 to 60 million and like
  127. 4:43we won't get too picky even about the
  128. 4:45numbers because after the first 10
  129. 4:46million you kind of made your point and
  130. 4:49the fact that we don't know between 15
  131. 4:52and 60 is actually an indication of the
  132. 4:54horror
  133. 4:55above it
  134. 4:57because our count is off by tens of
  135. 4:59Millions
  136. 5:01and that's only within the last century
  137. 5:04and then there was the 1956 Crackdown on
  138. 5:07Hungary and the 1968 invasion of
  139. 5:09Czechoslovakia then there was the whole
  140. 5:11like thermonuclear Holocaust thing that
  141. 5:14was going on at the same time and the
  142. 5:16fact that in 1962 and in 1984 we were
  143. 5:20seconds away from complete Annihilation
  144. 5:23right during the Cuban Missile Crisis
  145. 5:24the keys were in the intercontinental
  146. 5:27ballistic missile release systems and
  147. 5:30Castro as he admitted to Jimmy Carter in
  148. 5:33case any of you are Castro fans which
  149. 5:36you shouldn't be
  150. 5:38that he was perfectly willing to have
  151. 5:40Cuba annihilated if it would have meant
  152. 5:41the defeat of the United States
  153. 5:45and then in 1984
  154. 5:47approximately I may have the date
  155. 5:49exactly wrong the Russians received an
  156. 5:52indication from their early warning
  157. 5:54systems that the Americans had launched
  158. 5:55five thermal nuclear missiles and one
  159. 6:00Russian decided that it was a mistake
  160. 6:02and refused to launch the retaliation
  161. 6:04and he just died about two weeks ago
  162. 6:08so you know that was pretty close
  163. 6:11and uh
  164. 6:13so that was experiment number one let's
  165. 6:15say that that wasn't good that
  166. 6:16experiment let's put it that way
  167. 6:20it wasn't good it was exactly the
  168. 6:23antithesis of good it was precisely the
  169. 6:25antithesis of good
  170. 6:28but that wasn't all I mean
  171. 6:31there's the People's Republic of China
  172. 6:33that's a different country like
  173. 6:34seriously a different country right
  174. 6:36different tradition different language
  175. 6:40how many people died in China under Mao
  176. 6:42no one knows
  177. 6:45same issue with the Soviet Union
  178. 6:47although
  179. 6:48Mao was a bigger monster than Stalin and
  180. 6:51that's that's impressive you know
  181. 6:53because
  182. 6:54there's Hitler
  183. 6:56there's Stalin and there's Mao and of
  184. 6:59the three Mao was probably the worst
  185. 7:01he's still revered in China maybe that
  186. 7:04accounts for their affinity for North
  187. 7:06Korea which could still destroy us all
  188. 7:09the remnants of that horrible state
  189. 7:12maybe a hundred million people died in
  190. 7:14China during the Great Leap Forward
  191. 7:16that's a hell of a Leap Forward well
  192. 7:19maybe it wasn't 100 million you know
  193. 7:20maybe it was only 40 million but as I
  194. 7:23said before
  195. 7:25When you're counting in the tens of
  196. 7:26millions your points already made and
  197. 7:28then there was Cambodia and The Killing
  198. 7:30Fields and Bulgaria and East Germany and
  199. 7:33Romania and the Democratic People's
  200. 7:34Republic of Korea that's North Korea and
  201. 7:36Vietnam and Ethiopia Hungary
  202. 7:40etc etc
  203. 7:41etc it was never a successful communist
  204. 7:45state
  205. 7:47Cuba I suppose came closest but it was
  206. 7:49radically
  207. 7:51um
  208. 7:53the Soviets poured money into Cuba so
  209. 7:55that doesn't really count
  210. 7:59so then the first question was well are
  211. 8:02these marxists
  212. 8:04motivated by love or hatred
  213. 8:07well
  214. 8:10is it love or hatred that produces 100
  215. 8:12million dead people
  216. 8:15and is that enough evidence or not
  217. 8:18and if it's not enough evidence if you
  218. 8:21think to yourself well that's not enough
  219. 8:22evidence it was never really given its
  220. 8:24proper
  221. 8:27a proper try
  222. 8:30it's like well what would have been a
  223. 8:31proper try
  224. 8:33see I always think when I hear someone
  225. 8:34say that I know what you think
  226. 8:37you think in your delusional arrogance
  227. 8:41did you understand the Marxist doctrines
  228. 8:43better than anyone else ever has and
  229. 8:45that if you were the one implementing
  230. 8:47those doctrines
  231. 8:49you would have ushered in the Utopia
  232. 8:51that's what you mean when you say that
  233. 8:54and
  234. 8:58you know they say and there's an idea in
  235. 9:00the New Testament that there's a sin
  236. 9:01it's the sin against the Holy Ghost
  237. 9:04if you commit that sin no one really
  238. 9:06knows what it is
  239. 9:09that you can't be forgiven and I would
  240. 9:11say well
  241. 9:12if you want a candidate for the sin
  242. 9:14against the holy ghost in the 21st
  243. 9:16century uh the statement
  244. 9:20communism real communism was never tried
  245. 9:24with the underlying idea that if you had
  246. 9:27been the person implementing it it would
  247. 9:28have worked I think that's a pretty good
  248. 9:32Contender for something for which you
  249. 9:33should never be forgiven
