The Truth About Addiction: Reincarnation Explained — Transcript

- 0:00Hello friends, today we are going to be
- 0:03talking about addiction. All types of
- 0:06addiction specifically from the
- 0:08reincarnation and spiritual level. Why
- 0:13this is part of a person's or soul's
- 0:15experience in this lifetime. Why it was
- 0:17a selected experience. what it does at
- 0:21the soul level and what the true work
- 0:24is, what addiction is calling on us to
- 0:28handle and deal with. It isn't just
- 0:31about abstinence. I think we in
- 0:34humanity, human beings, we have a story
- 0:38around addiction. That it's some sort of
- 0:41a moral failing that a person who deals
- 0:44with addiction that there's something
- 0:45bad or wrong about them, that it's their
- 0:48fault, or that they're being punished in
- 0:51some way. But in reality, this is a
- 0:55selected curriculum because the soul who
- 0:59selected it, the person who signed up
- 1:02for this experience in this life is very
- 1:05brave and they saw a potential huge
- 1:10opportunity for soul and spiritual
- 1:12growth. Now, it hi, I'm Jillian. If
- 1:16you're new here, I'm all about learning
- 1:19and understanding reincarnation and
- 1:22spirituality and how life is set up from
- 1:26a reincarnation perspective. I like to
- 1:29look at the mechanics of how it all
- 1:31works and break it down so that we can
- 1:33all understand it so that we can live
- 1:35this life intentionally
- 1:37and not just have life happen to us. So
- 1:41here is the first important thing to
- 1:44talk about and this is very clear when
- 1:47we look at near-death experiences that
- 1:50recount
- 1:52their life planning process and also
- 1:55people that have done past life
- 1:57regressions to understand previous lives
- 2:00but also to understand their current
- 2:03life setup and dealt with that time
- 2:05period in between lives where we plan
- 2:08out our lives. Addiction is something we
- 2:11select to experience. It's given to us
- 2:15as an option to help us learn particular
- 2:19lessons. Essentially, it's a tool for us
- 2:23in human form. It's not something we
- 2:26experience when we're in our spirit
- 2:27bodies. This is something unique to
- 2:30being a human being. And the type of
- 2:32addiction that you experience is also
- 2:34going to be connected to what your
- 2:36physical body is. Some physical bodies
- 2:39have more of an opportunity to
- 2:40alcoholism. Some physical bodies have
- 2:43more of an opportunity to things that
- 2:45are around dopamine related addictions.
- 2:47So, as you were on the other side with
- 2:49your guides, looking at setting up your
- 2:52whole life, you looked at the options
- 2:56that you had with your physical body and
- 2:58the type of addiction. If that was
- 3:00something that you saw based off of what
- 3:02you wanted to learn and experience, you
- 3:05saw that as an opportunity. And I know
- 3:07talk about addiction as an opportunity
- 3:09sounds a little wild, but you'll
- 3:11understand why I say that by the time we
- 3:12get to the end of this video. And you
- 3:14might be thinking, addiction is hard and
- 3:17horrible, and there's no way I would
- 3:20have selected this. Well, what if I
- 3:24posited to you that whatever it is that
- 3:27you're working on learning, and we will
- 3:29get into that, that if you chose
- 3:33addiction or selected addiction as an
- 3:35option in this life, that you were able
- 3:37to complete that lesson and that
- 3:41experience in this life. But if you
- 3:43decided to not engage in the addictive
- 3:46behavior, it would end up taking you two
- 3:48to three lifetimes to accomplish that.
- 3:51So, if you're one of those people that
- 3:54doesn't want to incarnate anymore,
- 3:57that may have been exactly why addiction
- 3:59was selected, because you wanted to get
- 4:02on the fast pass. You wanted to get
- 4:05through this hard part of the human
- 4:09incarnation experience. And so, you
- 4:12selected something that was going to
- 4:13give you immense propulsion in your
- 4:16spiritual growth. Now, what kind of
- 4:18spiritual growth? Let's look at the kind
- 4:21of lessons that are often associated
- 4:23with addiction. Because when you
- 4:26understand the reason behind the
- 4:29addiction, the lesson that is the
- 4:33opportunity here and you're able to
- 4:35focus in on that lesson and be an active
- 4:39participant in learning that lesson, it
- 4:42then allows the addiction or other
- 4:45challenging life opportunities to get
- 4:48easy. They don't have to get so loud
- 4:51because you're able to be more
- 4:53intentional. They don't have to scream
- 4:55at you because you're like, "Okay, I'll
- 4:56I'll play the game." So, there's no one
- 4:59lesson for addiction. It's going to be
- 5:03specific to you. So, one thing may have
- 5:06been that you wanted to learn surrender.
- 5:09This is a big one connected to
- 5:12addiction, particularly if you're going
- 5:14the 12step route as a way to deal with
- 5:19or overcome the addiction. It's the idea
- 5:22of surrendering to something bigger than
- 5:24yourself.
- 5:26This is all about releasing the ego and
- 5:30connecting up to the divine. Whatever
- 5:33you know that as that ability to
- 5:36surrender and go with the flow is a
- 5:38major life lesson and a major step in
- 5:42the awakening process. Huge in the
- 5:45awakening process. Going along with
- 5:47that, another reason that addiction may
- 5:50have been selected could have been about
- 5:52spiritual connection or interconnection.
- 5:55Again, if you go through that process of
- 5:58surrendering, connecting out to the
- 6:00higher power, reaching out to God or
- 6:03whatever you know that is to help you
- 6:05through, this is one of the
- 6:07opportunities is to create that
- 6:09spiritual awareness connection, but also
- 6:14you may be in a situation where it's
- 6:16allowing you to connect with other
- 6:17people. Again, if you're choosing the
- 6:20route of going through something like a
- 6:2212step program, you're now connected
- 6:25into a community of people that have
- 6:27gone through similar experiences to you
- 6:30that you can understand and relate to
- 6:32and connect to in a way other people in
- 6:36your life can't. This is why 12 steps is
- 6:40a great option for a lot of folks
- 6:42because it brings you into a connection
- 6:45with other people and gives you this
- 6:48support and this holding up that you're
- 6:50not going to get from your family and
- 6:52friends who just aren't going to
- 6:54understand the experience the same way.
- 6:56Another major reason that addiction is
- 6:59on the docket for life experiences is to
- 7:03learn about love, particularly self
- 7:06love.
- 7:07When we deal with addictions, we become
- 7:11so hard on ourselves, so judgmental. We
- 7:15think we are worthless.
- 7:17We experience things through contrast.
- 7:20If you've watched any of my videos, you
- 7:22know I talk about this a lot. We
- 7:24experience things through the absence of
- 7:27them. it pushes and pushes and pushes on
- 7:30us until we have to find that within
- 7:33ourselves or until we have to break
- 7:36through because we can't handle the
- 7:38darkness of it anymore. So this idea of
- 7:43being in a place where you loathe
- 7:46yourself, you're ashamed of yourself,
- 7:47you think you're such a horrible person,
- 7:50which isn't true.
- 7:52In order to get through it, in order to
- 7:55survive, you have to begin grasping at
- 7:59the little shards of light, the little
- 8:02pieces where you can begin to love
- 8:04yourself and see the goodness in
- 8:06yourself and then grow those
- 8:09experiences. So, if you were wanting to
- 8:11have a life where you learned how to
- 8:13accept yourself,
- 8:16flawed and all, because if you are in
- 8:19human form, you are flawed. There is
- 8:22nobody perfect here on this planet. We
- 8:24all have issues. So to be able to accept
- 8:27and love yourself, not because you're
- 8:30perfect, but because you are imperfect,
- 8:34huge opportunity when we're looking at
- 8:36addiction. Along with that is
- 8:38forgiveness and releasing guilt. you may
- 8:42have done or somebody who is an addict
- 8:44may have done a lot of really horrible
- 8:46things while under the influence or in
- 8:50order to get their drug behavior of
- 8:52choice, they may have done harmful,
- 8:55hurtful things,
- 8:58you have to find a way to accept
- 9:01yourself, forgive yourself
- 9:04for what happened in the past to be able
- 9:08to center yourself in the present moment
- 9:11and the choices you make right now. And
- 9:14to love yourself and accept yourself for
- 9:15the choices and for the being that you
- 9:17are today
- 9:20and let go and love the being that you
- 9:23were previously who was doing their
- 9:26best, going through this challenge
- 9:30and made mistakes and made errors but
- 9:33learned from them because you're here
- 9:35right now and grew from them. And so
- 9:39this became that person is part of your
- 9:41story. So this is why forgiveness can be
- 9:44a huge huge lesson in the addiction
- 9:47experience. Overcoming fear can also be
- 9:49a big one in the reason that we're
- 9:52selecting uh addiction. Perhaps you're
- 9:55using the behavior, the drug, etc. to
- 9:59plaster over fear. And so that's what
- 10:02you want to work on. could also be about
- 10:04developing discipline,
- 10:06uh, stopping impulsiveness. Often when
- 10:08we select these lessons, it's because
- 10:10we're looking at previous lifetimes.
- 10:13Usually, actually, not often, usually,
- 10:15it's because we're looking at previous
- 10:16lifetimes and looking at what did I do
- 10:19wrong or what do I wish I did better?
- 10:21What did I not really get? And if you've
- 10:24had previous lifetimes where you haven't
- 10:26taken responsibility for yourself, where
- 10:28you've behaved really impulsively, where
- 10:31you really didn't pay attention to
- 10:32consequences, it could be that addiction
- 10:35was selected in this lifetime so that
- 10:37you could learn how to operate those
- 10:39muscles of discipline and of
- 10:42self-restraint and of self-respect and
- 10:45of self- nurturing too. That can also be
- 10:48a reason to select addiction and also
- 10:51learning how to receive help. Often we
- 10:54choose physical illnesses or physical
- 10:57disabilities in order to be in a place
- 10:59where we receive help. But it could be
- 11:01that there were a few different things
- 11:03that you had the opportunity to learn in
- 11:07uh dealing with addiction and receiving
- 11:09help was one piece of that larger story.
- 11:12Now there are other reasons that
- 11:14addiction was selected beyond wanting to
- 11:18learn particular lessons. Sometimes it's
- 11:21actually about karmic balancing. Perhaps
- 11:23you really disrespected your body or
- 11:26disrespected other people's bodies in
- 11:28previous lifetimes. So in this lifetime
- 11:31you wanted to have the experience of
- 11:33disrespecting the body through drugs,
- 11:35alcohol, behaviors etc. So that you can
- 11:39balance the scales. Another reason
- 11:42people select addiction and I think this
- 11:45is a beautiful one is because they want
- 11:48to help other people who are addicted.
- 11:51And so they know they need to go through
- 11:53the experience of addiction in order to
- 11:56truly help people that are having that
- 11:58experience. So they willingly go through
- 12:00that pattern
- 12:02so that they can help the world, help
- 12:05other folks. Now note while we're
- 12:08talking about the pre-birth planning
- 12:09process, it is not simply the soul
- 12:13experiencing addiction that plans this
- 12:15as part of their life. Also, the people
- 12:18around them are part of that selection
- 12:21process. We do hear a lot about that
- 12:24when we're looking at doing past life
- 12:27regressions or near-death experiences
- 12:30when we're talking about folks that are
- 12:32looking at their pre-birth planning
- 12:34process and the folks around them that
- 12:36are involved because it is not simply
- 12:39the addict that is learning lessons.
- 12:42People around them have the opportunity
- 12:44to learn lessons as well. Sometimes
- 12:47those lessons are around setting
- 12:49boundaries. That's very common. If
- 12:51you're somebody that in previous lives
- 12:54often gave too much or let people walk
- 12:58all over them or whatever that story
- 13:00was, it could be that you said, "Okay,
- 13:03I'm going to be I'm going to sign up
- 13:05with being your parent or your child or
- 13:07your sibling or your loved one in this
- 13:09lifetime because it means because of
- 13:12your behavior, I'm going to have to set
- 13:14boundaries because it's just going to be
- 13:16too much." That could be one reason that
- 13:18that that was like, "Yeah, I could get
- 13:20some value out of this experience." It
- 13:22could be that the person said, "Okay,
- 13:25because they wanted to practice
- 13:26compassion. They wanted to practice
- 13:28love. They wanted to practice being able
- 13:30to support somebody through some really
- 13:32challenging times." But it also could be
- 13:35because they're going to need to learn
- 13:37how to deal with self-care. They're
- 13:39going to need to deal with anger.
- 13:40Whatever that addiction is pushing on
- 13:44the people around them, it's giving them
- 13:46an opportunity to grow and develop in
- 13:48some way. Not a fun way. Earth is not
- 13:53fun. Usually being a human being, not
- 13:57fun. Not a great ride. At least in this
- 14:01time period, it's particularly hard. But
- 14:04is through these hardness, these
- 14:07challenging experiences that we our push
- 14:11to get stronger, to get deeper, to
- 14:15become our best selves. That's the
- 14:18opportunity that is being presented here
- 14:20is to really tap into the beauty that we
- 14:23all possess within ourselves through
- 14:26being kind of pushed like a diamond. You
- 14:28know, our little diamond analogy. So,
- 14:30this is part of the reason why this was
- 14:32selected. Now, let's talk about the
- 14:34work. How we can work with addiction.
- 14:37What it's really calling on us in our
- 14:40lives right now. Not before we were
- 14:43born, but right now. At its heart,
- 14:46addiction is about a wound or pain that
- 14:51we have
- 14:53and that we're using this behavior,
- 14:55substance, etc. in order to handle or
- 14:59treat the wound. The thing I think is
- 15:02interesting about this is addiction is a
- 15:05solution.
- 15:06Whatever that behavior is, it's a
- 15:08solution. It's a bad solution. It's a
- 15:11horrible solution,
- 15:13but it is what we have access to to help
- 15:16us with the pain that we're
- 15:18experiencing. Because being a human is
- 15:20very painful. all of these emotions and
- 15:23the stuff that goes on in our head and
- 15:25how mean we are to ourselves and how
- 15:27mean other people are to us or how we
- 15:29are to other people etc. It's really
- 15:32hard. So when we reach for whatever this
- 15:35activity is this is a way of treating a
- 15:39wound. The analogy that I was thinking
- 15:42about, I think that's really
- 15:44appropriate, is if you had a wound,
- 15:47right, that let's say you got sliced and
- 15:50you cut an artery and you're bleeding
- 15:52profusely and you're like, I need to
- 15:55deal with this. And the only thing at
- 15:57hand is this muddy, oily rag. And you
- 16:02grab it and you put it on the wound to
- 16:04stop it bleeding. Now, it's not good cuz
- 16:06it's dirty, right? It's festering. it's
- 16:09going to cause illness in that arm and
- 16:13it's not really going to fix the artery.
- 16:16Like you need stitches, you need you
- 16:19need medical care, but in the moment
- 16:23you're using what you've got at hand to
- 16:25help you with that wound.
- 16:27What the opportunity is here is to find
- 16:30something better than a dirty rag to
- 16:32deal with this wound. And the thing to
- 16:34keep in mind is that the addiction is
- 16:38not going to heal the wound. The wound
- 16:40is still going to be there until you
- 16:43heal the wound. You need to find
- 16:46something that will actually suture it.
- 16:49That's why it's very common when you
- 16:52say, "Okay, well, I'm not going to use
- 16:54this dirty rag anymore. This is a
- 16:57horrible thing for me. It's making me
- 16:59sick." Well, if you haven't fixed it,
- 17:01you still need to heal it. So, you're
- 17:04just going to grab something else. I
- 17:06think a great way to illustrate that is
- 17:08when we talk about food addiction and
- 17:10people that get very um large get larger
- 17:13bodies because of food addiction and
- 17:15then opt for gastric bypass surgery.
- 17:18Well, what ends up happening, and I've
- 17:21known somebody that this happened to
- 17:22firsthand, is that that was just taking
- 17:26away the solution. you still needed a
- 17:29solution. So then what ends up happening
- 17:32often for people that have had gastric
- 17:34bypass surgery, not everybody obviously
- 17:36because a lot of people go through the
- 17:37therapy and they use this opportunity to
- 17:39heal, etc. But it's not uncommon for
- 17:43them to become alcoholics afterwards
- 17:46because the changes of their stomach
- 17:49have actually caused them to be able to
- 17:51uptake alcohol more quickly. So,
- 17:54unfortunately, I do know somebody that
- 17:56that was her situation that she right
- 17:58lost all that weight, but she still had
- 18:00the wound and ended up becoming an
- 18:03alcoholic. So, again, let's focus on
- 18:05healing the wound. So, I'm going to give
- 18:07you some things to react to if you are
- 18:10somebody who is an addict or if you're
- 18:12somebody who knows somebody who's an
- 18:14addict and you're [snorts] playing along
- 18:15yourself. What sounds to be what is
- 18:18going on here? What is the wound? Is the
- 18:22wound emotional pain? Is it shame? Is it
- 18:27fear? Is it loneliness? Is it emptiness?
- 18:31Is it grief? Is it unresolved trauma? Is
- 18:35it disconnection? Do any of those
- 18:38resonate as the wound, as what you are
- 18:41trying to escape by engaging in whatever
- 18:44the behavior or substance is? And then
- 18:47the other half of that I'm asking you is
- 18:50because we're looking at what you're
- 18:51trying to get away from. What are you
- 18:54trying to go towards? Are you trying to
- 18:57create a feeling of love? Are you trying
- 19:00to create a feeling of peace?
- 19:03Are you trying to create a feeling of
- 19:05belonging, connection, acceptance with
- 19:08other folks? Are you trying to create a
- 19:11feeling of safety? Are you trying to
- 19:13create a feeling of fun and joy and
- 19:15excitement?
- 19:17These are all clues as well as far as
- 19:20what it is you are trying to get
- 19:22towards. Now, the opportunity when we
- 19:25look at those things and let's say it's
- 19:27about connection or belonging, how can
- 19:30you begin to bring that into your life
- 19:33in a healthy way so that you don't need
- 19:36to get it through this unhealthy way? So
- 19:38again, if it's connection, 12 steps. If
- 19:41it's peace, perhaps that's around
- 19:43meditation or spirituality. If it's
- 19:45safety, that might be a lot around trust
- 19:48and learning how to trust yourself and
- 19:50how to create a safe space and how to
- 19:52really believe that you can take care of
- 19:55yourself, right? I find that the lesson
- 19:58of safety, we often focus on safety
- 20:01being an external situation because
- 20:04right the external world is very unsafe.
- 20:08But what it's calling for us to learn on
- 20:10a soul level is about trusting ourselves
- 20:13that we are the ones who make ourselves
- 20:15safe by removing ourselves from
- 20:17environments, by being able to take care
- 20:19of ourselves, by being able to say no,
- 20:22by being able to choose better people,
- 20:24etc. But I think when we look at this on
- 20:26a spiritual level, the opportunity here
- 20:29is around connecting up with your higher
- 20:32self, living in integrity with your
- 20:35higher self and who you truly are. Your
- 20:38lower self runs the game when you're an
- 20:42active participant in addiction. This is
- 20:44about letting your higher self run the
- 20:47game. Now, in doing research for this
- 20:50video, I wanted to have at least a few
- 20:51tips. Again, find professional help, but
- 20:55a few tips if you're dealing with this.
- 20:58Now, again, we hear it all the time, one
- 21:01day at a time, right? That is the motto
- 21:04for the 12step program. And I think it's
- 21:07particularly beautiful on a spiritual
- 21:09level because the only time that exists
- 21:12is right now. The past doesn't exist
- 21:16right now. The future doesn't exist
- 21:18right now. Whatever you did prior to
- 21:20this moment
- 21:22is not reality. It's now just a thought
- 21:25form. It's now just a thought form. So
- 21:30right now you get to make a decision and
- 21:32then right now. And then right now it's
- 21:36always about what is the highest
- 21:38decision you can make in that moment.
- 21:41What is the most right decision you can
- 21:44make right now? Now, I'll also recommend
- 21:49uh somebody called Buddha Betty, who I
- 21:51really love. I found out about her
- 21:54through her neardeath experience.
- 21:57And she was somebody who did basically
- 21:59every drug, was
- 22:02I think she was homeless, a prostitute.
- 22:05She did lots of horrible things to other
- 22:07people. She was talks about this
- 22:09herself. She did it intentionally. She
- 22:10hurt other people so that she didn't get
- 22:12hurt. That's what she had learned in her
- 22:14life. She was raised by addictive
- 22:15parents. She had extreme trauma. And in
- 22:19her near-death experience, she was shown
- 22:22her pre-birth planning. And I loved this
- 22:25so much. In her pre-birth planning, the
- 22:28way that it was shown to her was that
- 22:31she was in a grocery store and she had a
- 22:34shopping cart and she was running down
- 22:36the aisles and there's all these cereal
- 22:38boxes and on the boxes were printed
- 22:41things like addiction, prostitution,
- 22:44abuse, etc., etc. And she was just
- 22:47throwing them all in her cart. She was
- 22:50really excited to make the most of this
- 22:52life. I'm sure she was like, "What were
- 22:54you thinking?" but she's this really
- 22:57bright, beautiful being that is all
- 23:00about her recovery process from a
- 23:02multitude of addictions. So, if you are
- 23:05somebody that is actively dealing with
- 23:09addiction, whether you're actively
- 23:10engaging it or actively in recovering, I
- 23:13highly recommend checking her out as a
- 23:15resource because I think she can really
- 23:17speak from her own place of knowing in a
- 23:20way that can help you. So, I'll link to
- 23:22her down below in the description.
- 23:25Buddha Betty. Now let's talk about
- 23:27what's happening on the soul level when
- 23:29we talk about addiction. Does this
- 23:32damage the soul? No, this does not
- 23:35damage your soul. This is something that
- 23:38happens at a human being personality
- 23:42level. And in fact, it's giving the
- 23:44opportunity for the soul to expand and
- 23:47grow and gain a greater depth of
- 23:49knowledge and understanding. So no,
- 23:52don't worry. You're not breaking
- 23:54anything inside of you. Now that said,
- 23:56you may acrew karma by what you've done.
- 24:00You may have done some horrible things
- 24:02and you may choose to come back in
- 24:05future lives or even in this life to
- 24:07work through that karma.
- 24:09But here's the secret. Karma is not
- 24:13inevitable. It's something that we
- 24:15choose to experience because we want to
- 24:17write our wrongs. If we do something
- 24:20where we've harmed somebody else, we
- 24:22want to make up for it. That's part of
- 24:23the balancing process. But you can
- 24:26lighten the karmic experience through
- 24:29self forgiveness and through taking
- 24:32personal responsibility.
- 24:34Those two things are lightening your
- 24:36karmic load. That's why it's a critical
- 24:40step in that 12step process. I've talked
- 24:43a lot about how this is part of our
- 24:46pre-birth planning process. And you
- 24:48might think, I don't think so. I don't
- 24:52know what that's all about. Well, I made
- 24:54a whole video talking about the
- 24:56pre-birth planning process. If you want
- 24:58to know what all is involved, what it's
- 25:00all about, I break it down here. Um, I
- 25:03hope that you're doing okay. I believe
- 25:06in you. We're all here doing our best in
- 25:09this crazy wackadoo life. All right,
- 25:11I'll see you in the next one.
