- 0:00I mean, the only thing that I know is
- 0:02just that
- 0:04I mean, I I uh left the house later than
- 0:07what I had said.
- 0:09Um,
- 0:11excuse me. Did you leave the house with
- 0:14your brother Cody looking like that?
- 0:18Or did you leave the house with your
- 0:20father looking like that or your mother?
- 0:24Is that how you left your family?
- 0:27>> No.
- 0:29Who left your family like this? If you
- 0:32were the one that's been depressed, you
- 0:33were the one that owes money, you were
- 0:35the one that got into a confrontation
- 0:36with your father, who did this to your
- 0:38family?
- 0:42>> No, I didn't do any of this.
- 0:49>> This is what happens when obsession
- 0:52crosses the line into destruction. When
- 0:54fantasy becomes more important than
- 0:57family, and when one man's delusion
- 1:00spirals so far out of control, it ends
- 1:03in bloodshed. Day after day and night
- 1:06after night, Granamato sat in the dim
- 1:09glow of his family's computer screen.
- 1:12utterly captivated by a woman thousands
- 1:14of miles away. A Bulgarian webcam model
- 1:18named Sylvie. She danced, she posed, and
- 1:21she told him everything he wanted to
- 1:24hear for a price. And well, Grant, he
- 1:27paid it. Hundreds of thousands of
- 1:30dollars in hours of his own time, his
- 1:33career, his dignity, and eventually his
- 1:36family. I can't think of like a better
- 1:39way to commit those crimes because
- 1:42nobody saw me. Nobody knew what was
- 1:45about to happen, you know? And I did
- 1:47that on purpose because I didn't want
- 1:50that final thought to be,
- 1:54wow, I can't believe you're about to do
- 1:56this. The fact that I had that
- 2:00compassion,
- 2:02that's the way that I am. You know, it's
- 2:05like even even in the process of doing
- 2:07something terrible, I'm trying to be as
- 2:09compassionate as possible.
- 2:11>> The Grand Tomato case is a chilling tale
- 2:13of obsession, deception, and familicide
- 2:17that unfolded in Chiliota, Florida in
- 2:202019. In this quiet suburb of Florida,
- 2:24the Amato family seemed to embody the
- 2:27American dream. But beneath the surface,
- 2:30a dark obsession was festering, leading
- 2:32to a tragic unraveling.
- 2:34>> A man accused of killing his parents and
- 2:36his brother. Tonight, we're learning
- 2:38chilling new details about the events
- 2:40that may have led up to it.
- 2:41>> Right now, Grant Amato is in jail facing
- 2:44those murder charges. News Six's Eric
- 2:46Sandaval got a hold of court documents
- 2:48that are filling in part of this story.
- 2:50Eric?
- 2:51>> Yeah, guys, we have gone through
- 2:52hundreds of pictures, videos, and
- 2:54documents over the last few hours. Most
- 2:56of it centers around what investigators
- 2:58called a relationship with an online
- 3:01model. Tonight, for the very first time,
- 3:04we see who this woman is and how this
- 3:06man's parents tried so hard to get him
- 3:08offline.
- 3:10This is the woman that Semino County
- 3:12prosecutors say Grant Amato had a
- 3:14longstanding and expensive affection for
- 3:17online. According to new court
- 3:19documents, Amato sent the woman known as
- 3:21Sylvie clothing, gift cards, and other
- 3:24gifts. gifts that investigators say were
- 3:26paid for by stealing money from his
- 3:28parents. It's a price tag they say
- 3:31soared to more than $200,000.
- 3:34Grant Amato was born in 1989. He was the
- 3:38youngest son of Chad and Margaret Amato
- 3:40alongside his brother Cody. Grant
- 3:43pursued a career in nursing, aiming to
- 3:46follow in his father's footsteps in the
- 3:48medical field. After being expelled from
- 3:51anesthesiology school and losing his job
- 3:54due to misconduct, Grant found Solless
- 3:56in the virtual world, he became
- 3:59infatuated with the Bulgarian cam model
- 4:02named Sylvie, spending over $200,000
- 4:06of his family's money in order to
- 4:09maintain the illusion of a lavish
- 4:12lifestyle.
- 4:12>> All right, Sylvia, look at me. I am I'm
- 4:16outside
- 4:18going to check the mail
- 4:20and I'm asking you if you can please
- 4:24pretty please
- 4:27send me one of your videos.
- 4:29I just I I love it so much when you just
- 4:32send them to me. Yeah. I I don't like
- 4:34buying your stuff. It makes me feel
- 4:36weird.
- 4:37Could you please send me one though?
- 4:47No, you're not. You're not sorry.
- 4:50>> We would just have like I think I
- 4:53described it as we were acting like a
- 4:56couple of high schoolers who had like
- 4:58fall in love where he talked on the
- 4:59phone all the time. That was something
- 5:01that was foreign to me. Like I've always
- 5:02said, you know, that was the first time
- 5:04I ever went to a site like that. First
- 5:06girl I met, I just kind of fell in love
- 5:09with her at first sight and I was
- 5:10spending four hours on the site. like
- 5:13those are things that she made. So the
- 5:14hosts were public for everybody who
- 5:17hated her,
- 5:18>> right?
- 5:19>> But all those other photos, like all
- 5:21just single shots of her, pretty much
- 5:23all the selfies of her. Um those were
- 5:27all personal for me. So nobody else had
- 5:30those. I think it's because like I would
- 5:33just request to see like, you know, what
- 5:35what she looks like tonight, you know,
- 5:36like you got all the makeup off. I just
- 5:38want to see the normal you. and they
- 5:40just they seemed personalized. I feel
- 5:42like I have really solid grounds for
- 5:45appealing the not only the um the whole
- 5:48trial phase but just the whole entire
- 5:51case all together. I would flat out
- 5:53agree that I agree that there was money
- 5:55aspect to it. But that's with anybody
- 5:59you know if you were married to somebody
- 6:01who had a lot of money you would enjoy
- 6:03that hurt of that relationship.
- 6:06Everybody loves to get paid,
- 6:08but she never asked me for money to
- 6:12begin with, ever. And she never
- 6:16made it a point that that's why she
- 6:18wanted to talk with me. Alarmed by his
- 6:21behavior, the Amato family intervened,
- 6:24sending Grant to a rehabilitation center
- 6:26and setting strict conditions upon his
- 6:29return, which cost the entire family an
- 6:31additional $15,000,
- 6:34putting the family once again in a
- 6:36financial crunch. Grant's family now
- 6:38discovering his financial deceit and
- 6:41obsession. And upon Grant's return, his
- 6:44father required that there would be no
- 6:46contact with Sylvie and a requirement to
- 6:49find employment. Shortly thereafter,
- 6:52Grant violates these same conditions
- 6:54that were placed on him, leading to
- 6:56escalating tensions within the Amato
- 6:59household. Concerned co-workers report
- 7:02Cody's absence to authorities.
- 7:04>> Let's start at the beginning with one of
- 7:06the first 911 calls for a wellness check
- 7:09on Cody Amato. He is one of the victims
- 7:11in this triple murder case. That call
- 7:14was made by Cody's coworker. Let's
- 7:16listen.
- 7:22>> Hi, my name is I called a couple hours
- 7:24ago to do a welfare check on a friend of
- 7:27mine. I haven't heard anything, but one
- 7:30of my other friends did and I just
- 7:31wanted to follow up on the person.
- 7:35>> Okay. So, just from understanding,
- 7:38you're called to have our wellbeing
- 7:40checked out on someone. You don't have
- 7:43to hear back from anyone, but your
- 7:44friend heard back from someone.
- 7:47>> Yes, we both called and we didn't
- 7:49realize that we had both called. So, he
- 7:51heard back a little bit ago, but I did
- 7:53not.
- 7:54>> So, so what did he tell you when he
- 7:57heard back?
- 7:59We heard that um they went to our
- 8:02friend's house and there was no answer
- 8:04at the door and he said his car was
- 8:07gone.
- 8:08Um
- 8:11and they said they don't have the
- 8:13address.
- 8:14>> Okay. Yeah, we still have officers um
- 8:18out there. It looks like they haven't
- 8:19made contact with the lab yet, but I'll
- 8:21have them give you a phone call back
- 8:23with the
- 8:25>> Okay. I just I learned that um something
- 8:29has come upon my
- 8:32I know that his brother struggled um
- 8:34with depression and um I believe
- 8:37suicidal ideation as well. You mentioned
- 8:40it to me and
- 8:44>> Okay. Yes, ma'am. We we still have the
- 8:47phone out there. So, um that's the third
- 8:49line.
- 8:51Back. What is your name and phone
- 8:52number?
- 8:53>> Sorry. Excuse me.
- 8:55My name is And my phone number is
- 8:59Sorry.
- 9:01>> Okay. You know, one of the friends.
- 9:03>> Yes.
- 9:04>> Okay.
- 9:06They um clear the home when they leave
- 9:09the home.
- 9:11>> All right. Thank you.
- 9:12>> All right. You're welcome. Thank you.
- 9:14>> Thank you. Bye-bye.
- 9:16>> Bye-bye.
- 9:17>> On January 24th, 2019, the Amato
- 9:20family's worst fears materialized. Grant
- 9:24violated the agreement by contacting
- 9:26Sylvie using his mother's phone.
- 9:29Confronted by his father, Chad, he was
- 9:31ordered to leave the house.
- 9:33Unfortunately, Grant murdered his
- 9:35mother, father, and brother in cold
- 9:38blood, attempting to stage the scene as
- 9:40a murder suicide to divert suspicion.
- 9:43Following a swift police welfare check
- 9:46of the Amato family home and thorough
- 9:48investigation by detectives involved,
- 9:51deputies discovered Chad, Margaret, and
- 9:54Cody Amato each shot execution style.
- 9:57Grantato was nowhere to be found.
- 10:09>> Okay. Oh, apparently I turned my video
- 10:12camera on already.
- 10:15She said, "Yeah, just get a 1038 there
- 10:16and clear the house." I was able to pop
- 10:18a uh dead a deadbolt lock that wasn't
- 10:21secured all the way.
- 10:22>> There is a large cabinet of some kind in
- 10:25front of the door. When we opened it up,
- 10:27we're going to have to move a cabinet to
- 10:29get in, but
- 10:30>> like like that barricade in there.
- 10:32>> No, no, no. The c the door swings this
- 10:34way. The um the cabinet is you know this
- 10:38what in whatever room that's in. It's
- 10:41just sitting. We're just going to have
- 10:42to push it aside to go in. And we'll
- 10:43just uh do this very smart way. We're
- 10:46going to go in slow and steady and
- 10:48smart. Yeah. We got to go around back
- 10:50this way.
- 10:53>> Knocked in every window, every door. Hit
- 10:55the air horn.
- 10:59Sheriff's office.
- 11:04>> There's a shed right here. You want to
- 11:05check the shed?
- 11:06>> Yeah. Box 16. Just in case somebody
- 11:09takes off on us or something, you know.
- 11:11>> I'm sorry. The last golf uniform limo
- 11:13fox.
- 11:15>> Fox 16. Okay. Which brother called you?
- 11:18>> Jason.
- 11:22>> Okay.
- 11:23>> How do you check that?
- 11:24>> It's a white Honda four-door there.
- 11:27>> A white Honda four-door.
- 11:31>> Well, look. No white Honda.
- 11:34>> Honda.
- 11:35>> A green Honda. gray Lexus and blue
- 11:38Toyota
- 11:39>> crime scene.
- 11:39>> Yeah, she's doing the crime. Well, she's
- 11:41doing the log.
- 11:43>> LT wants us to check the attic.
- 11:45>> Okay,
- 11:45>> we've got Debbie running tags on all
- 11:48these people to see if there's any
- 11:49vehicles outstanding cuz I guess the
- 11:50data is still outstanding. Correct.
- 11:52>> Yeah.
- 11:53>> How much of a fucking mess is this when
- 11:54I go walk in here?
- 11:55>> Don't Don't go that way.
- 11:56>> Yeah. Kitchen sh We can go in through
- 11:58the uh back door here and we can
- 12:01>> bathroom. No one else is in there from
- 12:02us, right?
- 12:03>> Right.
- 12:03>> Okay. All right. Give us five minutes.
- 12:05We haven't checked trunks or anything
- 12:07either. So,
- 12:08>> I'm going check over the neighbor's
- 12:10fence, too, just in case somebody was,
- 12:12you know, crawling or whatever trying to
- 12:14get help. Last time the Cody was heard
- 12:17from was 9
- 12:20uh something last night when his buddy
- 12:22texted him.
- 12:24>> They were texting back and forth at
- 12:259:00.
- 12:26>> Yeah, 9 something. And Cody said, "See
- 12:28you in the morning."
- 12:29>> How old were they?
- 12:31uh mid 20sish to late 20s. I haven't
- 12:35checked in trunks yet, but I did a
- 12:37visual check inside of the vehicles.
- 12:39>> I was just trying to get information to
- 12:40see cuz I didn't want FD coming in. If
- 12:42we have a legit homicide, if it's a
- 12:44murder suicide, then
- 12:45>> yeah, I I just wanted to be 100% sure,
- 12:47especially,
- 12:48>> but that's what if it was leaning
- 12:49towards I didn't want them coming in.
- 12:51>> Yeah,
- 12:51>> that's why I needed a a call. I knew you
- 12:53guys were busy.
- 12:54>> Yeah, we were up for our balls and I I
- 12:56just told FD just uh whoever's going to
- 12:58pronounce that's it. And If it's obvious
- 13:01signs, we don't need it pronounced.
- 13:02>> Yeah.
- 13:04>> Two of them.
- 13:06>> It was like probably, but I didn't want
- 13:08to be. It wasn't worth the chance. So,
- 13:11>> one of them was Yeah. obvious, but
- 13:14>> we need to get some people blocking all
- 13:15this shit off so that the news media
- 13:17doesn't come now.
- 13:18>> And family members. I want
- 13:20>> I want it farther out than that.
- 13:22>> Okay.
- 13:22>> Like out there.
- 13:24>> That next road.
- 13:24>> Yeah. So, if you can get him to start on
- 13:26that,
- 13:26>> who who is that?
- 13:27>> Same thing down here. Down there.
- 13:29>> Okay. LT wants it down further to the
- 13:32probably the next road. And same thing
- 13:34with this other side. Uh quite a ways
- 13:36down.
- 13:37>> On January 26, 2019, Granamato was
- 13:41located at a hotel in Orlando, Florida.
- 13:44He had denied any involvement in the
- 13:46murders, but all evidence pointed
- 13:48directly to him. from recent purchases
- 13:51using family credit cards to multiple
- 13:53attempts to access his father's bank
- 13:55account.
- 13:56>> Okay. I've not made an approach on the
- 13:58car. I just observed the tag. So, I
- 14:01don't know if he's in it or not. So, I
- 14:02want to get it shut down quickly. Yeah.
- 14:04We need to block everything we can in
- 14:07case he's on foot. All right. The car is
- 14:08parked on the very east side
- 14:13along I want to say it's turbine right
- 14:15here. Hey, get out of here. get in the
- 14:19car and go.
- 14:19>> Yeah, specifically want to shut down the
- 14:22uh the vehicle traffic as well. Then
- 14:25we'll start working on the hotel as we
- 14:26get enough units in here. A lot of foot
- 14:28traffic coming in and out of here. So,
- 14:30as you guys block these entrances, make
- 14:32sure you look in these cars as they're
- 14:33coming out.
- 14:34>> Charlie 24 is that the red shirt owner.
- 14:36Is that our suspect? I can see him in
- 14:38the yellow.
- 14:40>> Yeah, I think his name is a motto. Kind
- 14:43of a receding hairline, Hispanic looking
- 14:47guy. There's a lot of families in this
- 14:48hotel, guys. So, we need to be really
- 14:50careful. Come in. Pull up to where I'm
- 14:52at here.
- 14:55>> I knew I was going to find this guy.
- 14:57Yeah. He may not even be anywhere
- 14:58around, but actually, let's use him to
- 15:00park this car. All right. Come over
- 15:02here, Adam.
- 15:05>> All right. Stay right here. You take the
- 15:07back.
- 15:13>> Clear.
- 15:14>> All right. Clear town.
- 15:16>> Ready?
- 15:18I can't see in the back seat.
- 15:21It doesn't look like he's in there.
- 15:23Okay. All right. The car is clear is not
- 15:25in the car. So, it's locked down in this
- 15:27hotel.
- 15:29>> Okay. Good job.
- 15:31>> I knew I was looking. I've been hitting
- 15:33every fucking hotel. I knew that was
- 15:34going to be
- 15:35>> blocked that entrance.
- 15:37>> One of you completely blocked the
- 15:38entrance and I knew the other one.
- 15:40>> We need to lock everything down.
- 15:42>> Yeah. We need to get in this hotel and
- 15:43start moving people out.
- 15:44>> Yeah. find out and interview these
- 15:46people inside. Yeah. Do you want to do
- 15:47that part?
- 15:48>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'll talk.
- 15:49>> There's I pretty positive around this
- 15:51corner there's an employee entrance that
- 15:53leads to like their convention space.
- 15:55>> Why don't you two, if you don't mind, go
- 15:57inside, get the front desk, start
- 16:00finding out about this guy.
- 16:01>> You guys probably can pull it up.
- 16:03>> Yeah. Pull it up real quick.
- 16:04>> Grab your computer. Take it in there.
- 16:05Show them the picture
- 16:06>> because again, remember he may not be
- 16:08here. He may have
- 16:09>> ditched the car.
- 16:12Nikki is going to take this part of it
- 16:13and go inside,
- 16:15>> talk to the staff. Let's see if we can
- 16:17get the staff to see if this guy's here
- 16:18or not.
- 16:19>> Let them know what we're doing. I don't
- 16:21want to stir it up too much cuz we don't
- 16:23know if he's here or not.
- 16:26>> But I don't want him coming down in the
- 16:27lobby and seeing us and
- 16:30>> not being able to confront him right on
- 16:31the spot. Hey, try to refrain from
- 16:33spooking the guests with that panic
- 16:35male.
- 16:36I don't have his age as the uh
- 16:39middle-aged guy of the balding. If you
- 16:41don't mind, just keep an eye on that
- 16:43car. You're supposed to check out at 11.
- 16:45So, we need to really get in there and
- 16:47secure that room.
- 16:48>> Well, we're going to secure the hallway.
- 16:51We need to get the shield up before we
- 16:52approach the door.
- 16:54>> Secure the hallway. So, if someone comes
- 16:56out, boom. We got them.
- 16:57>> Understand? There's already guys inside.
- 16:59We already have two guys inside. Okay. I
- 17:01just want to get in there and get We'll
- 17:03get that haul done and we'll hold back.
- 17:06Yeah. Why don't you come with me and
- 17:07then everybody else play out here.
- 17:10>> Adam, stand by. We're two of us are
- 17:12coming in there. That's all we're going
- 17:13to need in here right now.
- 17:14>> Thank you.
- 17:16>> Main elevators are here. Side elevators
- 17:18are down that way.
- 17:19>> What floor is it? Are you holding your
- 17:20lips?
- 17:21>> The third floor. Can you do me a favor?
- 17:24>> Call the other rooms, not that room.
- 17:27Make sure no one calls that room and
- 17:28start saying, "Hey, you need to come out
- 17:30of the room and come downstairs."
- 17:32>> Yeah.
- 17:32>> Everybody's cameras are on.
- 17:34>> Yeah. Here's the goal. We shut down the
- 17:36hallway. We're waiting for a shield and
- 17:39whatever they want.
- 18:02>> Good.
- 18:06the way the configuration is in the hall
- 18:08up here. We have the hall. We have it
- 18:10secured. We're going to try and get some
- 18:12of these other people out of the rooms
- 18:13that are close by, but we're going to
- 18:15need to probably take the room. It'll be
- 18:17real easy for us just to hold that room
- 18:19until you get your other stuff in place
- 18:22rather than hold the whole hallway. I I
- 18:24really don't want to bunch of people
- 18:26coming out in the middle of this hallway
- 18:27and get in the middle of everything.
- 18:28>> Yes, we do. We have enough people on the
- 18:30third floor. We have we have the hallway
- 18:35and we can move up to the room so we can
- 18:37get these other people out of here
- 18:39safely and just contain that room. We
- 18:41have plenty of people for that.
- 18:54We're calling in now. We're all doing
- 18:56all that by phone. If we start making a
- 18:57bunch of noise, we're liable to wake him
- 18:59up and have a big ruckus. We have five
- 19:01people here. We're We're already in
- 19:02place. We have the door we have the door
- 19:04secured. No one's coming in or going
- 19:06out. We We We're in good shape. He's
- 19:08He's If he comes out of that room,
- 19:10there's no none of our guys are going to
- 19:11get hurt. Yeah. Once once we're sure we
- 19:14have everyone out of here, all the
- 19:15innocents, then we then we'll be able to
- 19:18set up decent cover all the way around.
- 19:20And then we'll back up and just keep the
- 19:22hallway. She'll be coming down in just a
- 19:24few minutes cuz there that leaves four
- 19:26of us up here.
- 19:28>> Okay. All right. All right. Bye.
- 19:30>> Okay. Yeah, cuz you're going to have to
- 19:32do the diagram or SWAT and all that
- 19:34stuff. Stop at the desk first and make
- 19:36sure they call these rooms. We need a
- 19:38list. Let me know the list of who you've
- 19:40been out. Watch the crossfire.
- 19:45Sheriff's office, I need you guys to get
- 19:46dressed and get out of here right now.
- 20:03Stand by.
- 20:05Hey, I'm sorry to get you guys out of
- 20:07here. It's got a lot of Did you hear any
- 20:08noises in the room next door last night?
- 20:11>> The room next door? Did you hear any
- 20:13noises or anything?
- 20:14>> I just heard weird. I thought it was
- 20:16like little box or something. First,
- 20:22>> Lieutenant, I'm talking about these
- 20:24rooms we need to evacuate. Okay, we'll
- 20:26just wait until he starts shooting every
- 20:28one of you guys are going to have to
- 20:30replace the shield. I want this shield
- 20:31over here on the hot side of the door
- 20:33going the other end of the hallway. But
- 20:36if he comes out of this door, because
- 20:38we're on the hot side, I want you to
- 20:39take cover because we'll engage him. If
- 20:42he comes out of that door, it is your
- 20:44jobs to engage him. He comes out.
- 20:48They're going to get behind cover. Do
- 20:50what you have to do.
- 20:55You're just going down to the lobby for
- 20:57right now.
- 20:58>> People next door like that.
- 21:02>> And we we haven't gotten any notice from
- 21:04them. Is it just you two?
- 21:08>> There's a stairway over here.
- 21:19Welcome to Florida.
- 21:24Okay, perfect.
- 21:29Don't come that way.
- 21:34Whoever's at the front desk, make sure
- 21:35that when they make contact with these
- 21:37people in these rooms and tell them to
- 21:38be quiet.
- 21:41Is there anybody else in here?
- 21:54>> Dad st
- 22:34They never down there at the front desk
- 22:37as these people make their way down
- 22:38there. Make sure you interview them. See
- 22:40if they have any intel for us.
- 22:45>> Let's go. He's not
- 22:47shit's ruining. You go right away.
- 22:54>> We got to go now.
- 22:59You can leave your stuff. You'll be able
- 23:01to come back.
- 23:04Hold on.
- 23:06Anyone
- 23:09else in here?
- 23:15>> After law enforcement's long and arduous
- 23:18task of successfully evacuating the
- 23:21hotel, Grantato appears out of his room
- 23:24to peak. Sensing something was going on,
- 23:26the officers quickly close in on Grant,
- 23:29executing a peaceful and rapid arrest.
- 23:34How
- 23:42about Zoom?
- 23:44>> Yeah.
- 23:44>> Secondary suite.
- 24:00Okay. Steady bodies.
- 24:13All right, stay to it.
- 24:16>> Where is it? Right here in the corner.
- 24:18>> Yeah,
- 24:19>> everything's secured. The room's swift.
- 24:22We'll unsecure and just have them come
- 24:24up. You're being cooperative, sir. We
- 24:25appreciate that. Um, some Sim County
- 24:27detectives want to talk to you, so we're
- 24:29going to get their handcuffs off.
- 24:30>> Nothing in your pants, correct?
- 24:31>> Yes. Nothing. Yes, sir.
- 24:34>> We, you know, it's just a normal
- 24:36routine. When we encounter someone that
- 24:37we want to make sure you're safe now, we
- 24:39know you don't have any weapons. We'll
- 24:41we'll get those restraints off.
- 24:46>> I mean, I have my my like duffel bag and
- 24:48whatnot in there. If you guys want to
- 24:49check that,
- 24:50>> that'll be up to the detectives that
- 24:51talk to you. We're confident you've been
- 24:54cooperative. Everything's good. So, we
- 24:55appreciate that very much. Goes a long
- 24:57ways.
- 25:04Upon being apprehended, he agreed to
- 25:07speak with investigators, showing little
- 25:09emotion and denying involvement. Grant
- 25:12was then arrested and charged with three
- 25:14counts of firstdegree murder.
- 25:19>> She got a lot.
- 25:21>> No, no, no. I'll hold it off on that.
- 25:23Okay.
- 25:23>> Hi, I'm Eva.
- 25:24>> Hi.
- 25:24>> How are you?
- 25:26>> I'm here.
- 25:28Hey, we really appreciate you coming up
- 25:29here with us and uh if anytime during
- 25:32this you need to stop and go to the
- 25:34bathroom, want a drink, um
- 25:37>> thing, just let me know and we'll be
- 25:39happy to get to it. Um
- 25:41>> my name is Danny Anderson and uh I'm a
- 25:44deputy county sheriff's office.
- 25:47>> Um so we just want to talk a little bit
- 25:48and we'll get this in and out be on our
- 25:51way. Okay.
- 25:52>> Um full name. My uh full name is Grant
- 25:56Pieran Amato. Uh my cell phone currently
- 25:58doesn't have any service with it. So I
- 26:01mean it's just
- 26:02>> So you don't have you haven't removed
- 26:04phone number. Just that one's no longer
- 26:05good.
- 26:06>> My dad had told me that he that when he
- 26:08disconnected my service that he also
- 26:09changed my phone number. So I don't know
- 26:11what the new phone number is but uh I
- 26:13mean it's probably like you can probably
- 26:15still see it.
- 26:16>> Do you have the phone or
- 26:17>> it it was in my data bag.
- 26:18>> Oh there gotcha. Education. I have a
- 26:21bachelor's of science in nursing from
- 26:24UCF back in 2011.
- 26:28Uh and that's my highest level.
- 26:30>> Okay. What what is there any special uh
- 26:32nursing degree what you do or
- 26:34>> uh I mean I have like other
- 26:36certifications.
- 26:37>> Um but uh I mean with that like I
- 26:40primarily worked in the hospital for
- 26:44I think five years, five or six years
- 26:46and then I was pursuing a masterers of
- 26:48science in nurse anesthesia. Um that was
- 26:51back in 2015 I believe.
- 26:54>> Okay.
- 26:54>> Um but then I didn't complete that and
- 26:56then I just went back to nursing. And
- 26:57then when this whole
- 27:00like wrongful accusation of the grand
- 27:02theft charge that I told you about in
- 27:03the car when that happened uh I stopped
- 27:07working at the hospital and then that
- 27:08took like
- 27:08>> I don't think we I don't think we talk
- 27:11about that in the car.
- 27:11>> Oh. Uh well I had I was accused of grand
- 27:14theft of the third degree back in
- 27:17June of 2018.
- 27:20Um that like went on for 6 months and
- 27:24during that time I obviously wasn't
- 27:25allowed to work because of it. So when
- 27:27that happened obviously I was dismissed
- 27:29from that job and then I couldn't get
- 27:31another job because now you have an
- 27:32outstanding felony charge on your name.
- 27:34>> Sure.
- 27:34>> Um so then I got the attorney. It it all
- 27:36went through and then finally in
- 27:38December
- 27:39>> they posted on the Orange County Clerk
- 27:42courts or whatever website where your
- 27:43where your file is that there was no
- 27:45evidence ever ever presented. All the
- 27:47charges were dropped and now I'm just in
- 27:49the process of expuning that from my
- 27:51records. But
- 27:53>> um
- 27:54because you know I can't keep just not
- 27:57working forever.
- 27:58>> Uh and you know that was that was kind
- 28:00of a a topic around the house was you
- 28:03know I need to get started here. I've
- 28:05been applying for jobs for the last
- 28:06couple weeks. I'd gotten a like three or
- 28:09four call backs.
- 28:10>> Um and then I went on a job interview
- 28:12yesterday for a home infusion nurse job.
- 28:15>> Where where where was that at?
- 28:17>> Um that was with uh God
- 28:22a credo.
- 28:24>> What time was your interview yesterday?
- 28:25>> Uh it was scheduled for 10:00. I got
- 28:27there around 9 in the morning.
- 28:30>> Uh and then I think we actually had the
- 28:31interview at about 9:45.
- 28:33>> How' that go? I mean, it was all good.
- 28:34Uh, they didn't have anything. They said
- 28:36that they'd probably be getting back to
- 28:37me by Tuesday or, Thursday, this coming
- 28:39week.
- 28:40>> Get you back to work.
- 28:41>> Yeah. Yeah. Because I mean,
- 28:44it's like it's crappy world when you
- 28:46know, you don't have any money, you
- 28:47can't, you know, do anything. So,
- 28:49>> girlfriends,
- 28:50>> girlfriends. I had like my high school
- 28:53sweetheart uh girlfriend um for about
- 28:56five years and then ever since then, no
- 28:59like official girlfriends, no flings or
- 29:01anything like that. here and there
- 29:03>> days occasionally, but I mean not
- 29:05really. Kind of focused on like just
- 29:07getting through the life the life goals
- 29:09that you know I wanted to achieve.
- 29:10>> What do you like to do?
- 29:12>> What do I like to do? I like to watch
- 29:14anime. Um me and my brother kind of
- 29:17started doing that back
- 29:20five years ago. I'd say he kind of got
- 29:21me into it. I've been out of work for 6
- 29:23months since June.
- 29:24>> How did you pay? That's a lot of money
- 29:26for out of work.
- 29:27>> My brother Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. My
- 29:29brother.
- 29:29>> What does he do? He's he's the CRNA.
- 29:32>> What?
- 29:32>> Sorry. The the certified registered
- 29:34nurse and that's what
- 29:36>> Okay. What you were what you
- 29:37>> what we were both in the program
- 29:38together and then he was able to finish
- 29:40then I not.
- 29:41>> So he was making good money.
- 29:42>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 29:43>> Was he making that 150?
- 29:45>> He was working he was working a lot. I
- 29:48mean I don't know if he was I think he
- 29:49was cing a lot of overtime. Not
- 29:51scheduled but like it's just kind of
- 29:53what happened.
- 29:54>> Mhm.
- 29:54>> Um but yeah he was moving along.
- 29:56>> What do you think he made his best year?
- 29:59>> Yeah. He showed me cuz he was uh he want
- 30:03he was complaining about how like his
- 30:06taxes alone were like the annual income
- 30:08of like a nurse.
- 30:10>> And I think when he showed me before
- 30:12like it had all ended like the uh before
- 30:15his pay year had ended
- 30:17>> that he was already up to like 166 but
- 30:20that was like after I think the $60,000
- 30:23or $40,000 already came out. I can't
- 30:26remember.
- 30:26>> That was after it.
- 30:27>> Yeah, I think so. So he made more than
- 30:29160.
- 30:30>> That was
- 30:31>> Yeah.
- 30:31>> Wow.
- 30:32>> Hobies. What do you like to do?
- 30:34>> Uh okay. So besides the anime, um
- 30:37besides that, we would play video games.
- 30:40We actually just got uh like a virtual
- 30:42reality headset thingy for like the
- 30:45computer.
- 30:46>> Um that was kind of fun. And and
- 30:49actually, yeah, during the time that I
- 30:51was um that I wasn't working as a nerd,
- 30:54I tried to do the whole Twitch streaming
- 30:56thing.
- 30:56>> What was that? Um, I'm sorry. No, no,
- 30:59no. You have to explain a lot of this to
- 31:01us.
- 31:02>> With with Twitch, it's you got your mic
- 31:04and then you have your face cam and then
- 31:06basically people are just watching you
- 31:07play whatever game you're going to say
- 31:09that you're playing.
- 31:09>> Okay.
- 31:10>> And then, you know, they can donate,
- 31:11they can subscribe to you, which then
- 31:13you get like a monthly payment. Um,
- 31:16>> have anybody doing that for you?
- 31:17>> I had I had like a I think I was up to
- 31:19like 30 something subscribers.
- 31:20>> And what would what would you charge
- 31:21them uh to to
- 31:23>> with with subscriptions? There's four
- 31:25tiers of it. Uh tier one it's just $5.
- 31:28So right when you see that you oh blank
- 31:30subscribe to you get $5. Uh
- 31:32>> monthly or just total?
- 31:34>> Actually it's every Twitch pays you
- 31:35every 45 days cuz you're like an
- 31:37independent
- 31:38>> Mhm.
- 31:38>> self-employed.
- 31:39>> Same thing with with their account
- 31:40though they subscribe to you. Okay. For
- 31:42a 30-day period or so every 30 days they
- 31:45owe you another five bucks
- 31:46>> if they resubscribe. Yeah. So then there
- 31:48was that tier 2 was like $10. Tier three
- 31:51was 15. Then somebody tier four it was
- 31:5424 I And what does that get you for?
- 31:57>> All all that the higher tiers do is they
- 31:58give you like more emotes, like little
- 32:00things you can put in chat so that when
- 32:02you're playing, everybody who's in your
- 32:04room can chat about, you know, what
- 32:05you're doing or, you know, anything
- 32:07random. Um, and then donations are just
- 32:10can range from 1 cent up to however.
- 32:14>> So, what were we making off of Twitch a
- 32:15month?
- 32:16>> Nothing really significant. It was like
- 32:18>> So, you said about 30 people at one time
- 32:21subscribed to you. So, a minimum what?
- 32:23>> 15 minutes.
- 32:24150 bucks and then a few donations. Uh
- 32:28but primarily I guess it's keeping
- 32:29myself busy.
- 32:30>> What other hobby you have
- 32:32>> besides that? Um a number of years ago
- 32:35like me and my brother were actually uh
- 32:37like gun enthusiasts and you know we got
- 32:41we did it wrong where we did it all
- 32:43during when the the the season was like
- 32:46high. So everything cost so much money
- 32:48season.
- 32:49>> Yeah, I guess so. for unfortunately we
- 32:51don't we don't hunt or anything like
- 32:52that but um we would go like clay
- 32:55shooting but we would do the clay
- 32:57shooting and then we were part of the
- 32:59blue county gun and shooting club yeah
- 33:02whatever
- 33:03>> but that was like two years ago. Um the
- 33:06only thing that we really kept up with
- 33:07was clay shooting. Um but even that I
- 33:10don't think we've done that for like
- 33:11eight months or something.
- 33:12>> What were you what were what was your
- 33:14gun for that? What would you like?
- 33:15>> Uh me and my brother both got the
- 33:18Benelli uh like long
- 33:20>> super super magnum super supernova.
- 33:24>> Supernova.
- 33:25>> Uh we both had those and then during the
- 33:29time where like I was struggling like in
- 33:30this last 6 months. I mean I sold all of
- 33:32my guns.
- 33:33>> What did you have?
- 33:34>> What did I get a little gun collection
- 33:36going?
- 33:36>> I did. I had um I had about four ARs. Uh
- 33:40they were all just where you would buy
- 33:42like the different parts again. I like
- 33:44with the PC and then just put them all
- 33:45together
- 33:45>> because I'm not I'm not going like that.
- 33:48Why so many hours?
- 33:49>> I mean, again, it was we were just like
- 33:51an enthusiast for wanting to build our
- 33:53own things and just kind of seeing what
- 33:54we had
- 33:55>> stuff. You're buying them already made.
- 33:57>> We would buy the specific parts and then
- 33:59have them sent to the the gun clubs or
- 34:01whatever so you could pick them up. Um
- 34:03and then Yeah. And then we put them all
- 34:04together.
- 34:05>> You put you guys build them yourself.
- 34:06You didn't have nobody for you?
- 34:07>> No. No. No.
- 34:08>> So, you had four yards. What do you
- 34:09have? What you have? Um, besides that, I
- 34:11had a Bale M4
- 34:14uh shotgun.
- 34:16>> Tactical shotgun.
- 34:16>> Tactical shotgun. What was that for?
- 34:19>> That was just that was like our that was
- 34:21just our gun that like me and my brother
- 34:23both had one of those. And that one.
- 34:25>> Yeah. And then we had um that had always
- 34:28just been our dream gun that we just
- 34:30wanted to have with M a tactical M4.
- 34:32>> Um and then we had the Supernovas, which
- 34:35we just use for clay shooting. And then
- 34:38uh pistols wise,
- 34:42I had
- 34:44I think four or five just pistols.
- 34:47>> Yeah.
- 34:47>> I had a Glock 17, I believe it was.
- 34:52>> Um I had uh
- 34:58it's not the Shield.
- 35:01It's a Smith and Wesson M9 something. I
- 35:04don't remember what it is. Uh, and then
- 35:06I had a Taurus,
- 35:10which was I think like a 40 cal 45
- 35:13caliber.
- 35:14>> And then I had uh again it's like the
- 35:16dream gun that I that I always wanted
- 35:18was the um
- 35:20the FN Tactical 45
- 35:24with like threaded barrel and all that
- 35:26stuff. Um,
- 35:27>> still have them all or you said you got
- 35:29rid of some of them?
- 35:29>> I sold all my guns. Yeah. Yeah. Where'
- 35:31you sell them to? Uh
- 35:34the Florida Gun Exchange.
- 35:36>> The what?
- 35:36>> Florida Gun Exchange. It's down in
- 35:40>> uh they have one in God. I am just It's
- 35:43some Orman Beach.
- 35:44>> Orman Beach. That's the one.
- 35:45>> You took them over and told them.
- 35:47>> Yes.
- 35:47>> Told them all at one time or
- 35:48>> No, no, no. Just kind cuz I didn't want
- 35:50to go in with too many cuz then I felt
- 35:52like they were
- 35:52>> they look at you like who's this guy
- 35:54with all these guns?
- 35:54>> Yeah. Or they would they would like cut
- 35:57me a lower deal because I was giving
- 35:58them like a whole bunch.
- 36:00>> What' you get for ARs? ARS unfortunately
- 36:02like it wasn't that much. It was only
- 36:04like three grand or something like that
- 36:06for all of them. Yeah. Just because
- 36:08they're
- 36:08>> How much you spend on them, do you
- 36:09think?
- 36:09>> Way more. Like at least double. Hand
- 36:11guns was maybe like
- 36:14total was like $1,500 or something like
- 36:16that.
- 36:16>> A lot more though.
- 36:17>> And the FN alone was $1,500.
- 36:20>> You buy all them all new?
- 36:21>> Yeah. All new.
- 36:22>> The rifles you put together.
- 36:23>> Rifles we put together.
- 36:24>> Customize them. Handguns were
- 36:26>> handguns were brand new. Shotguns were
- 36:28new. We
- 36:28>> get shotguns. What' you get for the M4?
- 36:30for the M4. That one was like the
- 36:32highest one. I think they gave me like
- 36:331,100 for it.
- 36:35>> What?
- 36:35>> About 15,500. That's not too bad.
- 36:38>> Um, and then for the uh the Supernova,
- 36:42it was only about 700, but that one cost
- 36:44about $1,200. No, no, I ended up got rid
- 36:47of everything cuz I was just
- 36:49>> I was just trying to get some semblance
- 36:50of money in.
- 36:52>> Um,
- 36:52>> keep up with your payments.
- 36:53>> Keep up with my payments. But also
- 36:55because like the the whole trip was
- 36:56coming down the line. Um, you know, my
- 36:59brother had to like foot the bill for
- 37:02the to get the attorney. Um, so, you
- 37:05know, like there was a lot of stuff.
- 37:06>> Pay the nothing.
- 37:08>> I think it was $8,000 for the holding
- 37:10holding the attorney.
- 37:12>> Retainer
- 37:12>> retainer retainer fee
- 37:13>> and and basically she had to do nothing.
- 37:15>> She had to do nothing. And um he got
- 37:19like annoyed because he like he
- 37:22apparently wasn't told that it was
- 37:24non-refundable. But I like I know that I
- 37:27told him because like I had to send in
- 37:29the documents signing it saying that
- 37:30it's nonrefundable.
- 37:31>> I've known any attorney that takes a
- 37:33retainer that ever gives you anything
- 37:34back.
- 37:35>> Yeah. So I didn't hire me. That's what
- 37:37it's going to cost.
- 37:38>> Yeah. I didn't He didn't get anything
- 37:39back from that unfortunately. And she
- 37:41ended up I think only going through
- 37:43about 3,000 of it.
- 37:44>> Mhm.
- 37:45>> So cuz
- 37:47what was it? I think 5,000 was for the
- 37:49criminal case and then 3,000 was for the
- 37:52other case if it had to go to the
- 37:53department of health which that never
- 37:55had to happen. So that 3,000 is just
- 37:57>> your certificate is still good.
- 37:59>> Uh clear and active. It's always been
- 38:01clear and active. It's just the
- 38:03quintessential you go to that background
- 38:04check and then they'll see an
- 38:06outstanding thing even though I have the
- 38:08paperwork now saying everything's been
- 38:11dropped. He's in the process of expuning
- 38:13his records. you know, even when even
- 38:15when it all went down on the day where
- 38:17uh I was accused of that of that felony,
- 38:20you know, the uh the cops came in and
- 38:22then they handcuffed me and they were
- 38:24like, you know, you've been charged with
- 38:26this. We're taking you down to the um I
- 38:29think it was Orange County, the Orange
- 38:31County jail area.
- 38:33>> You know, I had to have the picture
- 38:34taken and stay in the the sitting area
- 38:38where they process you all and
- 38:40everything like that. And you know, I'm
- 38:42using the the phones on the the cord,
- 38:45you know, trying to just bounce around
- 38:46the phone and
- 38:48>> I'm surrounded by all these guys who are
- 38:50talking about, you know,
- 38:51>> a real criminal.
- 38:52>> Yeah.
- 38:53>> And the first person I call is my dad. I
- 38:56mean, my my brother. He was at work at
- 38:58the time, but he answered his phone. And
- 38:59I was just like, "Look,
- 39:02I'm freaking out. Uh, I've been charged
- 39:04with this. I've been told that my bond
- 39:06is this." And then he I guess he tells,
- 39:10you know, whoever was was working that
- 39:12day with him, I got to I got to go. So
- 39:14then he uh he calls my mom, he calls my
- 39:18dad, he smooths things over as best as
- 39:20he can. He's just basically saying, I'm
- 39:22going to to pay this. Um and then I
- 39:26think I was there for like seven hours
- 39:27or something, even though it was paid
- 39:29within like the first hour.
- 39:30>> So that's dismissed. You're out looking
- 39:33for jobs, applying pretty regular.
- 39:35>> Yeah. I mean, I Yeah. Yeah. I'd say
- 39:36pretty regular.
- 39:37>> Anything left in savings?
- 39:38>> Nothing left in savings. I think I had
- 39:40like $300 $400. Uh but
- 39:43>> brother kind of helping you through.
- 39:44>> Yeah. Yeah. I mean, brother was helping
- 39:46me. My dad was covering um the rent that
- 39:48he called it, which is just like the
- 39:50monthly payment that to for us to help
- 39:52since we all live at home.
- 39:53>> What was that? What did you think of
- 39:54that?
- 39:54>> $600 a month. Yeah.
- 39:57>> And then um
- 39:58>> it's not a bad deal, is it?
- 39:59>> No. And then I mean he was he was
- 40:01covering like cell phone. We were paying
- 40:03for our own internet.
- 40:04>> Close your brother. Tell about Cody.
- 40:06>> Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Me and Cody.
- 40:08>> He's older. You were now?
- 40:09>> He is. I'm the youngest one. I'm 29.
- 40:10He's 31. My oldest brother Jason is 35
- 40:13or 36 now.
- 40:15>> Um
- 40:16>> who who was at home?
- 40:18>> Oh, all three boys live at home.
- 40:19>> No, no, no. It's just me and Cody and
- 40:21then mom and dad.
- 40:22>> Okay.
- 40:22>> Uh tell me about Tell me about Cody.
- 40:24>> Cody, let's see. Uh me and Cody had the
- 40:27quintessential
- 40:29rough like fighting each other and
- 40:31whatnot when we were younger. love
- 40:34typical siblings.
- 40:35>> But then I would say like my junior year
- 40:37of high school, we were all on the
- 40:39weightlifting team together. Uh that's
- 40:40where I got to know a lot of like his
- 40:42guy friends. Um and you know, we just we
- 40:47stopped like arguing at that point. And
- 40:49then we all, you know, we decided to go
- 40:51to nursing school together. We decided
- 40:53to go to the the nurse anesthesia school
- 40:55together.
- 40:56>> Um
- 40:57>> I mean we did everything together. I
- 40:59mean we were
- 40:59>> the better student.
- 41:00>> He was the better student. and
- 41:03everything up through nursing school and
- 41:05then I was actually the better student
- 41:07in nurse anesthesia school but uh there
- 41:10was like um again kind of like oh
- 41:12>> you guys sorry are you guys at the same
- 41:15time in the same classes
- 41:18>> so you're not not for nursing school not
- 41:20for nursing school
- 41:20>> no I mean for anesthesiology
- 41:22>> yeah we sat right next to each other
- 41:23>> so you're in there doing things together
- 41:25so you got somebody to study with
- 41:27somebody to work to bounce things off of
- 41:28and work with
- 41:29>> yeah and we would do that all the time
- 41:30we're burning the midnight oil,
- 41:32>> but you were better at it.
- 41:33>> Yeah. Uh and that was the one time that
- 41:35he actually admitted that I was uh
- 41:37didactically more confident than him in
- 41:40that field. Um
- 41:43and then
- 41:44>> he was better in weightlifting.
- 41:45>> He was okay.
- 41:46>> He he he broke a number of school
- 41:49records. Uh I think he was like the 129
- 41:52weight class. I was the 119 weight
- 41:53class, but uh he was he was definitely
- 41:56stronger in uh in high school. And then
- 42:00um
- 42:02but yeah uh we were close. I mean I mean
- 42:05like bonded, you know. Uh I don't really
- 42:09know how else to really say it. It was a
- 42:10lot of people thought that it was weird
- 42:12because we did everything together and
- 42:14because we were so close. But
- 42:17>> yeah, I mean
- 42:18>> a lot of people understand the bond of
- 42:19brothers. I mean the true bond if you're
- 42:21close to
- 42:21>> and I mean during like this whole time I
- 42:23mean kind of like with just a few
- 42:24examples I've given you, he was he'd
- 42:27take care of everything.
- 42:28>> Always there for you. Yeah.
- 42:29>> Always there as a fortress.
- 42:30>> Always there. Um
- 42:32>> fight with you one minute but make sure
- 42:33that you were not stuck in jail for some
- 42:35silly words the nice.
- 42:37>> And um
- 42:39yeah I mean he was just he's always been
- 42:42there for me. So
- 42:43>> Cody is definitely one you're way closer
- 42:45with.
- 42:46>> Yeah. Hands down. Hands down.
- 42:48>> Go on vacations. He's helping with
- 42:49bills, helping with with the legal
- 42:51issues,
- 42:52>> right? And I mean
- 42:52>> studied together.
- 42:53>> Studied together. We Yeah. Did
- 42:55everything together. Connected at the
- 42:56hip. Are there ever any issues really
- 42:58with him?
- 42:59>> No. Like I was saying during this last
- 43:01six months, it it had been a very trying
- 43:03time. Um, you know, financially trying
- 43:06to get a job thing going, worrying about
- 43:09this whole what's going to happen with
- 43:10this legal stuff. Mhm.
- 43:12>> Um but like even through it all, I mean
- 43:16he would like have his moments where he
- 43:18would get extremely upset like uh like
- 43:23you know he never gets violent I guess
- 43:25you could say but like at one point he
- 43:27got so upset that he like pushed the
- 43:29cabinet and then it like dented into the
- 43:31wall. Um, and he I mean so he'll like
- 43:33lose his temper kind of my dad. But um
- 43:38yeah, I mean at least with me he's
- 43:40always been
- 43:42like where he's he's there for me like
- 43:45whatever it takes regardless of what's
- 43:48happening I'm going to take care of it
- 43:49for you. Um, and I mean over like the
- 43:53last six months, I mean it it's it's
- 43:57been sad for me because like I see
- 44:00everything that like he's doing and like
- 44:03I can't be like how I've always been
- 44:06with him where, you know, I'm I'm
- 44:08helping out too or I can do something
- 44:10for you,
- 44:11>> you know, where we're kind of on the
- 44:12same playing field.
- 44:14>> I know that you make more money than me
- 44:15and all that kind of stuff, but it's
- 44:17like, you know, we can do the stuff
- 44:19together. you don't have to pay for my
- 44:20dinner, you know, when we go out with
- 44:21the guys, you don't have to pay for the
- 44:23trip, you know, it's just it would, you
- 44:25know, I couldn't help relieve the
- 44:27stress, I guess, as well as I always
- 44:28used to. But then, I mean, I know for
- 44:30me, I had been bummed out just because
- 44:32like I've been out of work. I've, you
- 44:33know, my whole life it's been school,
- 44:36work, school, back to work, and then
- 44:39just I mean that's you know, sacrificed
- 44:42all my 20s and never went tailgating or
- 44:44anything like that. Did you have any
- 44:45issues with depression over all the
- 44:47legal issues and and beyond?
- 44:49>> I would say that I was depressed, but um
- 44:52you know, I'd always put on the put on
- 44:54the happy face for like my brother. Um
- 44:57so I was just trying to rationalize to
- 44:58myself that
- 45:01hopefully this can all get taken care of
- 45:02and then I can get back. I was looking
- 45:04towards the future, you know, like then
- 45:06I can do like what I'm doing now where
- 45:08applying,
- 45:10you know, everybody likes me when they
- 45:12talk to me and they look at my resume
- 45:13and they see all my experience and then
- 45:15just waiting for if I get the call back.
- 45:17No, no, never. I never took any uh like
- 45:20>> medicate.
- 45:20>> No, I never took any like
- 45:21anti-depressants or anything like that.
- 45:23I think um the only thing just because
- 45:25like sleeping was kind of off and on at
- 45:27a time. I would take like um um like
- 45:30benadryil just to like help me go to
- 45:32sleep back at home and then when um I
- 45:36think the only other thing is like sleep
- 45:39aid which is again it's just
- 45:40dyenhydroine
- 45:42>> you know secondary side effect is just
- 45:44drowsiness it's not like its actual
- 45:45purpose and then melatonin just to help
- 45:48with the sleep cycle no anti-depressants
- 45:50no medical history none of that type of
- 45:52stuff
- 45:52>> but you and Cody since you've been
- 45:53adults any any physical fist fight when
- 45:56we were super on. But besides that, no.
- 45:59Yeah.
- 46:00>> So, living at home is who?
- 46:02>> Me, Cody, uh, dad, and mom.
- 46:05>> Tell me about your mom.
- 46:07>> My mom has, uh, she's always been the,
- 46:11uh, it's kind of like Cody. She's always
- 46:13been the one that focused on me.
- 46:16>> And, um,
- 46:19she I mean, she she worked at home. She
- 46:22uh,
- 46:22>> what she did,
- 46:23>> she was God, I I do not like a uh
- 46:28something manager like a client manager
- 46:30for nuance transcription company and I
- 46:33think she was in the stage now where she
- 46:34was kind of branching out to different
- 46:37uh countries. So she had just gotten
- 46:39like this Canada account I think where
- 46:41she had to basically do the same thing
- 46:42but now it's just all
- 46:44>> Oh yeah,
- 46:44>> good paying job it sounds like.
- 46:46>> And yeah, she uh she only
- 46:49>> I think she told me that she completed
- 46:52high school but if she didn't then she
- 46:54didn't have a high school diploma or she
- 46:55did. I honestly can't remember.
- 46:57>> And with that, when she first started
- 47:00doing everything like with my dad, she
- 47:02was just a medical transcriptionist. So,
- 47:03she wasn't she was making like 35,000 a
- 47:05year or something like that. Um, but now
- 47:08she had worked her way all the way up to
- 47:10making about $90,000 a year at this job.
- 47:14Stressful as hell. You know, I work
- 47:17Yeah. I'd hear her complain,
- 47:20>> do all that stuff. She worked at home.
- 47:23>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, you said you
- 47:24worked at
- 47:25>> Oh, no. She works for New On.
- 47:28>> Yeah, she works from home.
- 47:30>> So, it's like it's like where like all
- 47:32of her internet and crap is against like
- 47:34the wall.
- 47:34>> Home office.
- 47:35>> Yeah. Yeah. It was like originally a
- 47:37dining room, but then it was
- 47:38transitioned into like her office.
- 47:40Again, it's like this last six or seven
- 47:41months was just like stressful for
- 47:43everybody. And
- 47:45you know, countless times my dad would
- 47:48like come up to me and he'd make like me
- 47:52feel like he'd try and use things and
- 47:55word things to make me feel guilty so
- 47:57that I would, you know, do everything
- 47:59that I can like get a job
- 48:01>> almost like a motivation,
- 48:02>> right? And he'd he'd tell me time and
- 48:05time again that, you know, you're her
- 48:07favorite. I mean, she would do anything
- 48:08for you.
- 48:10>> And I mean, it's like, yeah, I don't
- 48:12need to hear that. I mean, that's not
- 48:13what would motivate me.
- 48:14>> Sure.
- 48:15>> Um, but no, with mom,
- 48:18I think we yelled at each other a grand
- 48:20total of like three or four times my
- 48:21whole life. Um, I've never like yelled
- 48:25at her
- 48:26for anything cuz I mean, she's never
- 48:28done anything wrong. She's always been
- 48:29the one who's
- 48:30>> stood by you.
- 48:31>> Stood by me, but tried to, you know,
- 48:33even during our early childhood when it
- 48:36was really rough with our dad. Mhm.
- 48:38>> Uh,
- 48:39>> my dad's a Leo type A Italian
- 48:43>> personality man. He's very focused on
- 48:47his future.
- 48:49>> Mhm.
- 48:49>> Um, he's very focused on everything that
- 48:52he's sacrificed in his life for the
- 48:54better betterment of all of us. Um, you
- 48:58know, like he's always dreamed of going
- 49:00hiking up in the mountains. They have a
- 49:01property up in Tennessee that they
- 49:02built. So, like, yeah, I guess back to
- 49:04your original statement with my mom,
- 49:07never any issues. I mean, she it was
- 49:09always like if there was somebody that I
- 49:10could talk to and like Cody wasn't
- 49:11available, I'd always talk to my mom.
- 49:13I'd always let her know what's going on.
- 49:15Um,
- 49:17yeah. I mean, she would help me out
- 49:18through through anything.
- 49:19>> Okay. Tell me about dad.
- 49:21>> Dad, uh, what does he do?
- 49:23>> Dad's a pharmacist. He works for CVS.
- 49:26He's been a pharmacist for I think 35
- 49:29years or so.
- 49:30>> Oh, he's worked for CVS. No, he uh he
- 49:32worked for the hospital
- 49:34actually or I think it was something
- 49:37orange back in the day, but um he worked
- 49:39for OMC
- 49:41for about 15 years and then he worked
- 49:43with Home Infusion with Ambient
- 49:45Healthcare for
- 49:4811 years or 13 years.
- 49:49>> Mhm.
- 49:50>> And then he finally got into this the
- 49:53sales one uh with CVS.
- 49:56>> What do you mean? where he's just he's
- 49:57on he like sits in a cubicle and then
- 49:59he's got the headphone on and then if
- 50:01somebody calls in he just like tells
- 50:03them what they have to do like pharmacy
- 50:05wise
- 50:06>> so retail pharmacy
- 50:07>> retail retail pharmacy so he wouldn't go
- 50:10to like the CVS's on the side of the
- 50:13road he was at like
- 50:14>> Carmark or something like that which is
- 50:16owned by CVS
- 50:17>> it's like 650 employees he tell me about
- 50:19like how it's a
- 50:21>> a bunch of pharmacists doing the same
- 50:23>> basically talking to other pharmacists
- 50:25>> talking to other pharmacist is talking
- 50:26to doctors, talking to patients,
- 50:28patients for like their home health care
- 50:31stuff that they have, and they just call
- 50:33into the 24-hour pharmacists and then uh
- 50:36you know, they help him through with
- 50:37whatever they're whatever they
- 50:38>> think you like that job better than
- 50:39being in a CO thing.
- 50:40>> No, he hated it. He he
- 50:43he c when uh cuz he was fired from Oh,
- 50:47sorry. And then he was uh like IV home
- 50:50infusion with Florida Hospital infusion
- 50:53group for only about two or three years.
- 50:55Um he was fired from that for being
- 51:00like like I guess to not like soft but
- 51:02like an asshole. Uh cuz he was like like
- 51:06his manager or something was this like
- 51:08young woman and then she was giving him
- 51:10crap and then he's like I've been a
- 51:12pharmacist for this many years like I
- 51:14don't and you're younger than it's like
- 51:15I don't have to listen to you you know.
- 51:16So, I guess he blew up one day when he
- 51:18was down at work and then um
- 51:22because of that he ended up getting
- 51:24fired and then he was out of work for
- 51:25about 3 months and then he was trying to
- 51:28get back into the hospital system trying
- 51:30to do home infusion again.
- 51:32>> But because of how old he is and because
- 51:34he has an RPH degree, which was the
- 51:37original pharmacist degree, he doesn't
- 51:38have the new farm D. Um he just wasn't
- 51:42able to get back into the avenue that he
- 51:44wanted to. That's why he was forced
- 51:45basically to go to retail. So, but I
- 51:49mean he would he he'd tell me every day
- 51:51or every week that, you know, he hates
- 51:53it. Uh he's just trying to get to that
- 51:56retirement earmark so that he can stop
- 51:59because when he goes up to Tennessee, he
- 52:01doesn't want to get reertified in
- 52:02Tennessee and even work part-time like
- 52:05what what his dad does.
- 52:07>> Um
- 52:07>> what do you mean? What does his dad do?
- 52:08His dad's also a pharmacist, but he
- 52:11originally lived he lived in Florida and
- 52:13then now he lived in South Carolina and
- 52:16he just works part-time as a pharmacist,
- 52:18but he got the whole reertification so
- 52:20he could keep doing that,
- 52:21>> right?
- 52:21>> Um,
- 52:23>> dad make good money.
- 52:24>> Uh, I think he would tell me that he
- 52:26makes like between 110 and $120,000 a
- 52:29year.
- 52:29>> Not bad money.
- 52:30>> So, yeah, it's not bad. You know, that
- 52:31was what my dad always emphasized when
- 52:33he was when we were younger going
- 52:36through grade school and high school and
- 52:38college.
- 52:39We were heavily restricted, but we were
- 52:41allowed to do some things like it wasn't
- 52:44like Jason's situation where he was just
- 52:46like like the doors locked, you know,
- 52:48you're staying in there type thing. Um,
- 52:50>> and who was that? Who was who was
- 52:53keeping um
- 52:55who was the disciplinary in the family?
- 52:57>> My dad.
- 52:58>> And was he the one inside Jason's? Yes.
- 53:00>> Locked in.
- 53:01>> Yeah.
- 53:01>> What did mom think about that?
- 53:03>> Mom didn't approve of it obviously, but
- 53:06back in that time, my dad was a very
- 53:11like angry, violent type person.
- 53:13>> Overbearing.
- 53:14>> Overbearing. Um, you know, he would he
- 53:17would like push my mom. And like one
- 53:20instance, you know, it was getting to
- 53:22that age where me and Cody were kind of
- 53:24getting old enough to maybe be able to
- 53:25do something if she needed our help. And
- 53:28uh I remember her and my dad were like
- 53:32in their room, which if you go down the
- 53:33stairs, it's right there to the left. Um
- 53:37we heard our mom yell that he's hurting
- 53:39me, he's hurting me. And then me and
- 53:41Cody run downstairs and we go into the
- 53:43room and then we're trying to get our
- 53:45dad off of our mom and then my dad
- 53:47elbows back and that's why my nose is
- 53:49got its little like bridge
- 53:50>> right there.
- 53:52>> Um but I mean that's like how he was
- 53:54like spanking with a 2x4.
- 53:57um you know like baseball practice it'd
- 54:00be like for four or five hours and he's
- 54:02hurling the ball as fast as an adult can
- 54:05and we're like seventh eighth grade
- 54:08trying to catch this stuff. Um
- 54:11yeah, I mean definitely very overbearing
- 54:13but he would always rationalize that
- 54:15he's just trying to like secure our
- 54:17future.
- 54:19>> Violent towards the family,
- 54:20>> violent towards my mom and towards me.
- 54:22Never to and towards Jason. Uh but never
- 54:25to Cody. Why?
- 54:28>> Um I I mean
- 54:30>> his favorite.
- 54:31>> Yeah. I mean three boys.
- 54:32>> Yeah. And with that, I mean, I could
- 54:36kind of see it. But Cody also never
- 54:38really made any mistakes. He he did a
- 54:40few things wrong. He lied a few times.
- 54:42You know, he cost my dad some money a
- 54:44few times, but he was never like a
- 54:46repeat offender, I guess you could say.
- 54:48Whereas me and Jason, you know, we had
- 54:50that difficulty where it's like, okay,
- 54:52we got a C or we got a D on something,
- 54:54and I just don't want to tell dad about
- 54:55it. Sure.
- 54:56>> But then he would find out and then, you
- 54:59know,
- 54:59>> dad would abuse him
- 55:01>> when we were younger. Um,
- 55:02>> how so?
- 55:04>> Spankings with like a 2x4 and then, you
- 55:07know, he he'd used like uh I mean it was
- 55:09like a 2x4 that was fashioned into a
- 55:12paddle called the lightning the
- 55:14lightning rod, I think is what it was
- 55:15called. No, he he broke it on me.
- 55:18>> Yeah. He would um
- 55:21Yeah, he'd do that and then he'd push
- 55:22you around like he wouldn't he wouldn't
- 55:24punch you. He wouldn't bruise you.
- 55:26>> Slap you.
- 55:27>> He never slapped me. But I guess I
- 55:30should say the only place that I ever
- 55:31got bruised was on my butt from from
- 55:33being spang.
- 55:33>> Belittle you.
- 55:35>> He would belittle me when I was younger.
- 55:37But again,
- 55:38>> since you been out of work?
- 55:39>> Um,
- 55:45no. I mean, not really. He would just
- 55:48make me feel bad that
- 55:51like he would make me feel bad that
- 55:53Cody's doing all this stuff to like um
- 55:56>> and you're not
- 55:56>> and I'm not like I'm not contributing.
- 55:58>> You're not as not as
- 56:01valuable maybe.
- 56:02>> I think that's not the right word, but
- 56:03you're you're not you're not
- 56:05contributing enough to what needs to be
- 56:06done.
- 56:06>> And I was just in the point where it's
- 56:08like, you know, I'm hearing, you know,
- 56:10all this stuff from dad. I'm seeing how
- 56:12much Cody's helping me. you know, mom's
- 56:14stressed out with her job and it's like
- 56:17I'm not doing anything. And it's like
- 56:18I'm in that situation where it's like
- 56:20I'm not not doing something because I
- 56:22don't want to. I'm held out because I'm
- 56:24waiting for this whole legal thing to
- 56:26get taken care of and then for jobs.
- 56:28>> When's the last time your dad put his
- 56:30hands on you?
- 56:33Uh, the last time my dad put his hands
- 56:36on me would be
- 56:41I'd say
- 56:45kind of the middle of December of 2018.
- 56:49>> What happened? It's because um you know
- 56:53with all the money that had been getting
- 56:55spent and uh I guess just a mix of
- 56:59everything that I've been saying just
- 57:00kind of boiling up in him um and the
- 57:03fact that I was to him it seemed like I
- 57:06wasn't concerned about it. So and then
- 57:09plus I was you know I wasn't acting like
- 57:11myself with the jovialness and you know
- 57:13all that kind of stuff. Um, my father
- 57:18chose to admit me to like a like an a
- 57:22depression or an addiction clinic or
- 57:24something like that in Fort Lauderdale
- 57:25called Cornerstone.
- 57:27>> When was that?
- 57:28>> That was December 22nd.
- 57:31>> Okay.
- 57:31>> Until I think uh January 4th.
- 57:35>> Did you agree to go?
- 57:36>> I I didn't, but they said that you know
- 57:38this was your only
- 57:40>> Who said?
- 57:41>> My dad.
- 57:41>> Okay.
- 57:42>> And that was in Fort Lauderdale.
- 57:43>> Yes. Yeah. Did your mom agreed to it?
- 57:46>> My mom and my brother both agreed, but
- 57:49it was my dad who was like the iron fist
- 57:51like this is what's going to happen like
- 57:53you know he can't
- 57:54>> Why did he say you needed to go? What
- 57:55was his reason?
- 57:57>> Because uh with the way that I was
- 58:00acting, he just he didn't see that I was
- 58:03doing anything for like the positive. Um
- 58:07you know, and a lot of it just came back
- 58:09to money uh with him.
- 58:12uh he would he would like allow me to to
- 58:16spend money that he had uh like with his
- 58:18credit card or something like that, but
- 58:21it's like then whenever I did it was
- 58:23like a huge problem.
- 58:25>> Okay. So, you had one of his credit
- 58:26cards.
- 58:27>> Yeah.
- 58:27>> And what were you buying with it?
- 58:29>> Uh well, what I was doing is um over the
- 58:33past
- 58:35four months or something like that, I've
- 58:36been I've been talking to this woman
- 58:38online.
- 58:39>> Okay. Uh she's as embarrassing as it is.
- 58:42She's a she's a cam she's a cam model.
- 58:45>> A what?
- 58:45>> A cam model. You guys know that uh just
- 58:49like you have to tell us.
- 58:51>> A cam model. It's like they they
- 58:54it's like a virtual girlfriend, I guess
- 58:56you could say.
- 58:57>> Okay.
- 58:57>> Like that type of situation.
- 58:59>> Mhm.
- 58:59>> So a lot of the money went to her.
- 59:01>> Okay. Where's she at?
- 59:02>> She lives in Bulgaria.
- 59:04>> Where?
- 59:05>> Bulgaria.
- 59:06>> Where's that?
- 59:07>> Over in Europe. It's like outside of
- 59:08Germany. Okay. Something like that.
- 59:10>> You ever been there?
- 59:10>> No.
- 59:11>> Okay.
- 59:12>> It was It wasn't that serious.
- 59:13>> What would you give her money for?
- 59:15>> Um just for like the time online with
- 59:18her. Yeah. So, it was just like that
- 59:19type of thing.
- 59:20>> And what did she charge by the minute?
- 59:22By the hour?
- 59:23>> Minutes.
- 59:24>> Okay. And how much is it per minute?
- 59:25>> Oh god. I think it was like
- 59:28>> It was like 90 tokens a minute. And it's
- 59:32like conversion rate for all of that is
- 59:36like
- 59:38$600 for like a like 5,000 or something
- 59:42tokens or something like that. So, and
- 59:44then it was 4 hours a night. Um, so I
- 59:48mean it's I mean that's basically just
- 59:50where all like the cost went to was you
- 59:52pay real money for the tokens then you
- 59:53use the company's digital currency for
- 59:55for that.
- 59:56>> So you do and when did you meet her? I
- 59:59met her um
- 1:00:04at the beginning of July. Yeah. At the
- 1:00:08very beginning of July.
- 1:00:09>> Okay. And and still talking to her?
- 1:00:12>> Still. Yeah. I mean, more just on uh
- 1:00:14like Twitter, like just through direct
- 1:00:16messaging. Um again, cell phone service
- 1:00:19doesn't work, so it's like I can't use
- 1:00:20the the chatting like that.
- 1:00:22>> How much do you think you spent on this?
- 1:00:24It's kind of pricey.
- 1:00:25>> Yeah.
- 1:00:26>> 90 tokens and and You mean $5,000 for
- 1:00:29for how many pumpkins?
- 1:00:32>> No, no, it's $600 for for 5,000.
- 1:00:35>> For 5,000. Okay. So, how much you think
- 1:00:37you spent?
- 1:00:38>> Um,
- 1:00:40probably
- 1:00:41close to
- 1:00:45like $200,000,
- 1:00:48I'd say.
- 1:00:49>> $200,000.
- 1:00:50>> Yeah.
- 1:00:51>> And where' the money come from?
- 1:00:52>> Money came from me, uh, my brother, and
- 1:00:56then my dad.
- 1:00:58Did they know where the money was going
- 1:00:59to?
- 1:00:59>> They didn't know that it was going to uh
- 1:01:02a cam a cam model. I I was saying that
- 1:01:05it was going towards my Twitch streaming
- 1:01:08uh like like yeah like advertising like
- 1:01:11putting my name out there and that that
- 1:01:13type of thing. So I guess to like bring
- 1:01:14it all back with why I was brought to
- 1:01:16Cornerstone. Uh it was a mix of all of
- 1:01:20those things. It's like he felt like,
- 1:01:23you know, I um
- 1:01:26he felt like
- 1:01:27>> you needed to be grounded.
- 1:01:28>> Yeah. Yeah. And so then I was there, you
- 1:01:32know, I spoke to like the therapist and
- 1:01:34psychiatrist and all that stuff. I
- 1:01:35didn't need any medications for
- 1:01:37anything. They had analyzed it as this
- 1:01:40is an isolated event. You've been out of
- 1:01:42work. You have this PTSD from the whole
- 1:01:45getting arrested thing. And I mean, the
- 1:01:47last thing on my record was, I think, a
- 1:01:49speeding ticket back when I was at UCF.
- 1:01:51>> Mhm.
- 1:01:51>> And then, you know, just having all of
- 1:01:54that stuff going on. Um,
- 1:01:58but then I didn't they had signed me
- 1:02:00they had signed me up, I think, to be
- 1:02:02there for 60 days, but then I was only
- 1:02:05there until January 4th. So,
- 1:02:07>> wait for that.
- 1:02:07>> My brother Cody,
- 1:02:08>> what was the cost of that? Yeah.
- 1:02:10>> 15,000. It was $15,000.
- 1:02:13And then I think uh when I had gotten
- 1:02:16back, we were going through the process
- 1:02:17of calling them and seeing if we could
- 1:02:18get any type of refund. And I think they
- 1:02:20said that he was going to get refunded
- 1:02:22$3,000 from his 15.
- 1:02:23>> Sure.
- 1:02:24>> Um but I don't
- 1:02:25>> there.
- 1:02:26>> Right. Right. But I don't know if that
- 1:02:28transaction had ever gone through yet.
- 1:02:29>> So their final diagnosis of you was
- 1:02:31what?
- 1:02:32>> That I was fine. That
- 1:02:33>> didn't need to be there.
- 1:02:34>> Yeah. That I was I was fine. I told them
- 1:02:37all about like my living situation and
- 1:02:39how it had been stressful and then it
- 1:02:40got better and then now it's just
- 1:02:42stressful again. But they had all just
- 1:02:44said that it was just this isolated
- 1:02:45event
- 1:02:45>> situational PTSD from
- 1:02:47>> Right. Yeah. Like once you
- 1:02:49>> once you can get this legal thing taken
- 1:02:51care of which I I don't know if I
- 1:02:53mentioned but when we looked online and
- 1:02:55we saw that all the charges have been
- 1:02:56dropped that was on like November 30th
- 1:02:58or 31st the day before we were going to
- 1:03:00Japan. So, while that was good and
- 1:03:03everything, um, I still knew that it was
- 1:03:06still going to be like on your record
- 1:03:08until you get it expuned.
- 1:03:10>> So, you know, I was still thinking,
- 1:03:12okay, at least now I can maybe start
- 1:03:14applying when we get back from Japan.
- 1:03:16>> I found out you said you went on the
- 1:03:1822nd of
- 1:03:20>> That's when that's when I went to Yeah,
- 1:03:21it was after Japan. And it was because
- 1:03:23when I had gotten back, my um my mom and
- 1:03:27dad were, you know, dealing with a lot
- 1:03:29of the financial stuff while we were up
- 1:03:31there.
- 1:03:31>> Mhm.
- 1:03:32>> And then um when I got back, that's
- 1:03:35where my dad started to get really kind
- 1:03:37of overbearing. And I mean, rightfully
- 1:03:39so. I know what I did, but it's like
- 1:03:41with him, it was every single day, hours
- 1:03:43a day, excuse me, hours a day, he'd come
- 1:03:46home from work and then he would just
- 1:03:49talk to me just about the same exact
- 1:03:50thing over and over and over and over
- 1:03:52and over again. And
- 1:03:53>> did he get did he get heated?
- 1:03:55>> He would get heated, but he
- 1:03:57>> get heated.
- 1:03:57>> No, I mean, I was, you know, I I was
- 1:04:00always the person in the family where
- 1:04:01like my brother Cody would interrupt my
- 1:04:03dad when he was talking. uh my mom would
- 1:04:06interject and say, "You can't be saying
- 1:04:08that or whatever." But for me, I would
- 1:04:10just sit there and I would just let my
- 1:04:11dad talk so that he could say everything
- 1:04:12that he wanted to say. Um and then if I
- 1:04:15saw that it was something that he wanted
- 1:04:16me to respond to, then I'd respond. But
- 1:04:18I would never be heated to him.
- 1:04:20>> Especially if I felt like I was in the
- 1:04:21wrong,
- 1:04:22>> right?
- 1:04:22>> Spending that amount of money, it's
- 1:04:24idiotic to do that, you know, especially
- 1:04:26when you're not making
- 1:04:27>> 200,000,
- 1:04:28>> right? One of his rules was that I
- 1:04:30wasn't allowed to talk to the woman
- 1:04:31anymore that I had been talking to. Um,
- 1:04:35but I guess you could say behind the
- 1:04:37scenes, my mom would let me talk to her
- 1:04:40through her cell phone using Twitter.
- 1:04:42Um, and you know, she would tell me
- 1:04:46like, "Look, you got to keep it, you
- 1:04:49have to keep it just basic because if
- 1:04:51you say anything or if you entice
- 1:04:53anything or do anything like that, it
- 1:04:55might lead her to
- 1:04:59say something to like my dad or
- 1:05:00something like that because she get
- 1:05:02>> because apparently when I was in
- 1:05:04Cornerstone, my dad told her cuz he had
- 1:05:08like hacked my computer or something
- 1:05:10like that and then he found everything.
- 1:05:12guy like you and your brother,
- 1:05:13>> except he's more of that like hacking
- 1:05:15level, like able to do all that stuff.
- 1:05:18So, he had found, you know, um like just
- 1:05:22the stuff that was related to her. And
- 1:05:24then,
- 1:05:26you know, he like he like erased my
- 1:05:28whole entire computer. He put a password
- 1:05:30on it. So, it's like even when I came
- 1:05:32back up until Thursday, like I wasn't
- 1:05:33able to go onto my own computer to look
- 1:05:36at anything. I
- 1:05:36>> He's treating you like a small child,
- 1:05:38>> right? And rightfully so. I mean,
- 1:05:41spending that amount of I was acting
- 1:05:42childish. I I can kind of get it.
- 1:05:44>> But, um, so yeah, anyways, on Thursday,
- 1:05:48he had apparently found out that I was
- 1:05:51speaking to her again. And when I came
- 1:05:53back on the 4th, me, my mom picked me up
- 1:05:57from the cornerstone place. And then me
- 1:05:59and my mom met my dad at California
- 1:06:02Pizza Grill or Kitchen in Waterford
- 1:06:04Lake. and he had this list front and
- 1:06:08back on a piece of paper of all the
- 1:06:10rules. This is what's going to happen.
- 1:06:12This is why I'm acting the way that I'm
- 1:06:14going to act. I'm not going to be dad
- 1:06:15anymore. I'm going to be Chad. And I
- 1:06:18basically told him that I'm going to be
- 1:06:22I'm going to be present. I'm going to do
- 1:06:24what I can. I'm going to start to try
- 1:06:25and get jobs. Now, I told him what my
- 1:06:27plan was. Um, you know, it wasn't really
- 1:06:31my intention to continue talking to this
- 1:06:33woman, but it just kind of happened. Um,
- 1:06:37and then because there was like that
- 1:06:38emotional connection, I guess you could
- 1:06:40say, uh, between her and me, like I I
- 1:06:43like, you know, it felt like like like a
- 1:06:45relationship, you know, I didn't want to
- 1:06:46just stop cold turkey on it. Um, so he
- 1:06:51had apparently found out and then
- 1:06:53>> happy,
- 1:06:54>> right? And one of the stipulations was
- 1:06:55that he told at the dinner was if you
- 1:06:58speak to this woman again, you're out of
- 1:07:00the house. I'm kicking you out. You can
- 1:07:03pack up your shit and then you're off my
- 1:07:05property. And then because of the way
- 1:07:08that he used to be, he had told me that
- 1:07:12basically if that happens that if I ever
- 1:07:15stepped back onto his property that he
- 1:07:17would kill me. So, you know, on
- 1:07:20Thursday,
- 1:07:22um
- 1:07:24um that all happened and then I was in
- 1:07:26the process. I was getting all my stuff
- 1:07:28together. I was peacemealing it out to
- 1:07:30the car and then uh you know, I had
- 1:07:35interview on Friday. So, I I had to get
- 1:07:37my suit off my car. I was trying to just
- 1:07:38get all of my necessities as best as I
- 1:07:40could from, you know, a lifetime of
- 1:07:43living inside the house. And then um
- 1:07:47um
- 1:07:49my brother was working that night and I
- 1:07:52think he was working like one of his
- 1:07:53long nights but he ended up getting off
- 1:07:55early and then I had met with my brother
- 1:07:58before he came home just like in the
- 1:08:00neighborhood area
- 1:08:02>> and then where
- 1:08:03>> it was just on the uh like the back side
- 1:08:06of the house like along I don't remember
- 1:08:08what that road's called but it's like
- 1:08:09you take the bend where it has those two
- 1:08:11blinking lights
- 1:08:12>> and then it's just down that road
- 1:08:14Well, it was Yeah, it was just it was
- 1:08:16just down that road.
- 1:08:18>> Um, and then I basically brought him up
- 1:08:21to speed and he had told me that he was
- 1:08:24going to do whatever.
- 1:08:25>> What time was anything?
- 1:08:27>> Uh, God, what time was that?
- 1:08:29>> What time did you go to Let me back up a
- 1:08:31second. I apologize. You, mom, and dad
- 1:08:34go to California Pizza Kitchen in
- 1:08:36Waterford at what time?
- 1:08:38>> Oh, that was all the way back on January
- 1:08:394th.
- 1:08:41>> Oh, you said Thursday.
- 1:08:42>> But that wasn't Thursday. No, no, no.
- 1:08:44That was that was when I had come back
- 1:08:45from Cornerstone and he was giving me
- 1:08:47the the rules.
- 1:08:48>> Okay.
- 1:08:49>> So,
- 1:08:49>> due Thursday then that
- 1:08:52Thursday you meet with Cody down the
- 1:08:54street. Is this past Thursday?
- 1:08:55>> Yes.
- 1:08:55>> Okay. Tell me tell me about that.
- 1:08:57>> After you and your dad argue.
- 1:08:58>> After me and my dad had argued and he
- 1:09:00had told me, you know, this is how it's
- 1:09:03going to be and you know all that stuff.
- 1:09:04Then yeah, I spoke with Cody. He told me
- 1:09:07about all that. he had given me his
- 1:09:09debit so that because I mean I don't
- 1:09:12have any money and I don't know where to
- 1:09:13go you know I'd never been out of the
- 1:09:15house on my own. Um and then the last
- 1:09:17thing that I was told was just that you
- 1:09:19know basically once again that he'll
- 1:09:20take care of it because
- 1:09:21>> this is Cody.
- 1:09:22>> This is Cody.
- 1:09:23>> What time what time is this
- 1:09:24approximately?
- 1:09:26>> I'd say a little after
- 1:09:2910 10:30ish at night.
- 1:09:32>> Thursday night.
- 1:09:33>> Thursday night.
- 1:09:34>> Okay. Um,
- 1:09:37and then
- 1:09:39yeah, so then after that I just like
- 1:09:42stayed
- 1:09:44in that air in the vicinity area for a
- 1:09:48number of hours and then I had
- 1:09:50remembered over some of the nights when
- 1:09:52I would work overnight and then I'd be
- 1:09:53able to come like get off early
- 1:09:55>> that I could that the Publix on 50 on
- 1:09:59Colonial,
- 1:10:00>> the one that's by the Tractor Supply
- 1:10:02>> 49. Yeah.
- 1:10:03>> Yeah.
- 1:10:03>> Mhm. that that public that's like their
- 1:10:05guest Wi-Fi is always still active even
- 1:10:07when the store closes down. So I was
- 1:10:08like, "Okay, well I'm going to go there
- 1:10:10cuz I have my Surface. Um, and I can,
- 1:10:12you know, check on my emails." I had to
- 1:10:14pull up the address to my interview
- 1:10:16because I don't have GPS.
- 1:10:18>> Um, so then I would like write all that
- 1:10:20stuff down and then, um, I was basically
- 1:10:24just waiting in that parking lot until I
- 1:10:27had to leave to go to the interview.
- 1:10:30Um,
- 1:10:32and then I mean that was the LA because
- 1:10:33again it's like no cell phone service.
- 1:10:36Uh, I mean email was literally like my
- 1:10:39only form of communication. And then you
- 1:10:42know Yeah. I just I didn't have any I
- 1:10:45didn't you know I was I went to the the
- 1:10:48Double Tree cuz I was like I can't just
- 1:10:49stay in my car again all night,
- 1:10:51>> right? How did you pay for that?
- 1:10:53>> I paid for it with my with my debit
- 1:10:55card.
- 1:10:55>> With your debit card?
- 1:10:56>> Yeah. cuz I think there was like 400
- 1:10:58or$300 and something dollars still left
- 1:11:00on it.
- 1:11:00>> Okay.
- 1:11:01>> Um and then I was just there the whole
- 1:11:03night.
- 1:11:04>> Talk to Cody, talk to mom, talk to
- 1:11:06>> No, I I couldn't talk to anybody cuz I
- 1:11:08didn't have
- 1:11:08>> But you have the phone in the room.
- 1:11:10>> Oh, yeah. I did have the phone in the
- 1:11:12room. But
- 1:11:13>> anybody room?
- 1:11:14>> No, I just I didn't even honestly think
- 1:11:16about it cuz I was I was like,
- 1:11:20>> you know, away from a place where I
- 1:11:22lived for 25 years or something like
- 1:11:24that. I had never, you know, as
- 1:11:26embarrassing as it is, I'd never been on
- 1:11:27my own.
- 1:11:28>> The longest period I ever been away from
- 1:11:30anybody is 2 weeks when we were up in
- 1:11:32Japan. I guess I was waiting to see what
- 1:11:35would happen with his job cuz I was told
- 1:11:37I'd either be told Tuesday or Thursday
- 1:11:39and then maybe I would try an outreach
- 1:11:43or something like that. Or the last
- 1:11:44time, um, you know, when it was like an
- 1:11:48issue where I didn't have my phone, like
- 1:11:49my brother would email me. So, I was
- 1:11:51just thinking, okay, well, I mean, if
- 1:11:53anything, he knows the situation. He'll
- 1:11:55just email me. So, I checked my email a
- 1:11:57few times last night and then I just
- 1:11:58inevitably was able to to go to sleep.
- 1:12:01>> So, so Thursday, you're home all day?
- 1:12:04>> Yes.
- 1:12:04>> With your mom. She works at home,
- 1:12:06>> correct? Yeah.
- 1:12:06>> Your dad's at work. What's his normal
- 1:12:08work hours?
- 1:12:08>> Uh, he worked until
- 1:12:12I think he had to go in early that day.
- 1:12:14Uh, cuz he had to start like doing
- 1:12:15overtime or something like that. And he
- 1:12:18normally works though from like 5 or 6
- 1:12:20in the morning to I think he gets home
- 1:12:23between like 5:30 and 6:00 at night or
- 1:12:25something like that.
- 1:12:26>> What time do you get home that night?
- 1:12:28>> Uh he got home at like 5:30.
- 1:12:30>> 5:30.
- 1:12:31>> 5:30, 5:45. One of those two.
- 1:12:33>> Okay.
- 1:12:34>> Describe your dad normally come in.
- 1:12:36>> Uh when my dad normally comes in, he'll
- 1:12:38come in. He'll look into the uh the
- 1:12:41living room which is like there's the
- 1:12:43kitchen and then there's the living room
- 1:12:44where it's got like the long couch and
- 1:12:46whatnot that's inside and then there's
- 1:12:49the TV right there.
- 1:12:50>> Okay.
- 1:12:50>> So, he'll normally come in through there
- 1:12:52and then he'll talk or he'll ask his
- 1:12:55questions or he'll
- 1:12:56>> Where are you? Where were you at when he
- 1:12:57came in?
- 1:12:57>> I was just in there. I was just watching
- 1:12:59uh
- 1:13:00>> in the virtual reality where where you
- 1:13:01said you had that set up.
- 1:13:02>> Right. Right. Yeah. I was just watching
- 1:13:03>> And that's in what room?
- 1:13:04>> The living room.
- 1:13:05>> The living room.
- 1:13:06>> Yeah. I was just watching YouTube at
- 1:13:08that time just like
- 1:13:09>> can I talk to you?
- 1:13:10>> Yeah.
- 1:13:11>> Okay.
- 1:13:11>> Uh and that's where
- 1:13:14um cuz he had I don't know how he found
- 1:13:18out but he had apparently found out and
- 1:13:20then
- 1:13:20>> found out what
- 1:13:21>> that I was talking to
- 1:13:23>> to the woman. Yeah. And then uh he came
- 1:13:26in and then he asked me in a calmer
- 1:13:29state I guess you could say like
- 1:13:32basically the the leading question of
- 1:13:35you know why do you think we're about to
- 1:13:38have this conversation giving me I guess
- 1:13:41that opportunity to be honest and
- 1:13:42truthful to maybe tone it down a little
- 1:13:45bit. I of course did what I always did
- 1:13:47where I kind of didn't admit to it. Um,
- 1:13:52and then he he came out and he told me
- 1:13:55that I'd been doing that.
- 1:13:56>> He had proof.
- 1:13:57>> Yeah. He had kind of reverted back to
- 1:13:59the way that he was when we were younger
- 1:14:00where, you know, he kind of, you know,
- 1:14:03pulled me up from the couch and then he
- 1:14:05was yelling at me to pack my shit up and
- 1:14:07just get out of the house that he was
- 1:14:09the one who had to be the hammer and
- 1:14:11that, you know, why am I making him have
- 1:14:13to go through this and all this other
- 1:14:15kind of stuff.
- 1:14:16>> Okay.
- 1:14:16>> So, you know, basically I had
- 1:14:19>> he becoming violent.
- 1:14:21like the way you described when you were
- 1:14:23you when you and Cody were kids,
- 1:14:24>> right?
- 1:14:25>> What do you do?
- 1:14:26>> Um, like I said, he pulled me up from
- 1:14:28the couch just by like the shirt that I
- 1:14:30was wearing.
- 1:14:31>> And then, you know, after that, he was
- 1:14:33basically just having that yelling where
- 1:14:36it was kind of kind of like cracking,
- 1:14:38you know, like his voice would either
- 1:14:40crack or he would just he was basically
- 1:14:42just yelling at that point and
- 1:14:43monitoring.
- 1:14:44>> Where's your mom?
- 1:14:45>> My mom was in her office.
- 1:14:47>> The argument with dad is at what time?
- 1:14:49The argument with dad is like
- 1:14:51600 6:30 or so.
- 1:14:53>> Yeah.
- 1:14:54>> Okay. Um,
- 1:14:57you have your argument. Can you pack
- 1:14:59your stuff?
- 1:14:59>> I have my argument and then I'm packing
- 1:15:01my stuff. I'm, you know, taking it out
- 1:15:03to the car. It took me like a couple
- 1:15:04hours to get as much as I could. Just
- 1:15:06kind of out into there. Um, and then
- 1:15:10yeah, it's like mom's kind of just
- 1:15:12staying out of it to a certain degree
- 1:15:14because she knows like how dad can be.
- 1:15:18And then uh yeah, I mean,
- 1:15:23you know, I was and that's just pretty
- 1:15:25much where I was just kind of like
- 1:15:26waiting.
- 1:15:26>> So you wait outside. Did anybody call
- 1:15:29Cody and tell him what's going on?
- 1:15:30>> No, not I mean not that I know of.
- 1:15:32>> Okay. How do you not meet Cody down the
- 1:15:34street? It's because uh my mom had
- 1:15:37actually come and told me that you know
- 1:15:41she again she was trying to bridge the
- 1:15:42gap and then before I actually
- 1:15:45physically left I had told my mom that
- 1:15:48you know I'm going to be close I'm going
- 1:15:50to be local I'm just going to be like
- 1:15:51down the street
- 1:15:52>> and then so you left
- 1:15:54>> so I left um like Cody had called the
- 1:15:56house and then my mom picked up and then
- 1:16:00he was just letting like how we would
- 1:16:02normally do where like I got off early
- 1:16:04supposed to work till like 11:00 or
- 1:16:05something like that.
- 1:16:06>> But he came home early
- 1:16:07>> and then yeah, he was able to
- 1:16:08>> come home early because of the party.
- 1:16:10You think?
- 1:16:11>> I don't I don't I don't know honestly.
- 1:16:13But uh he had I mean like that week even
- 1:16:16on the days that he was working until
- 1:16:183:00. He would come home at like noon or
- 1:16:201:00 or something that week. So maybe it
- 1:16:21was just a slow week. But apparently
- 1:16:24that had happened and then my mom was
- 1:16:26able to to
- 1:16:28>> tell him,
- 1:16:29>> right? And then she told me what else
- 1:16:31happened. Uh then after after
- 1:16:35I met with Cody then that's where you
- 1:16:37know I was again just kind of staying
- 1:16:39around that area and then I just went to
- 1:16:42to the Publix and then to my knowledge I
- 1:16:44mean that was like that was the last
- 1:16:45interaction that I had with my the three
- 1:16:48members of my family was was that
- 1:16:50>> so when Cody called the house you said
- 1:16:52your mom told him about the argument
- 1:16:54right how and you told when you left you
- 1:16:56said you told your mom you were going to
- 1:16:57be in the area
- 1:16:59>> how then does Cody now know where to
- 1:17:02meet you or is he going to meet you?
- 1:17:04>> Yeah, it's because that's that's when my
- 1:17:06mom had come out to where I said that I
- 1:17:08was going to be on that road somewhere
- 1:17:10and then she was able to do that and
- 1:17:12then I guess that's how she knew like
- 1:17:15where to I don't know if she talked to
- 1:17:16Cody again or if she was able to do that
- 1:17:18but then she was able to like pinpoint
- 1:17:19that area. You leave, go on your way,
- 1:17:22Cody goes home, right?
- 1:17:23>> And you have no contact with anybody
- 1:17:24since then,
- 1:17:25>> right?
- 1:17:25>> So, you and Cody meet,
- 1:17:27>> right?
- 1:17:28>> And it's approximately what time, I know
- 1:17:30it's I'm not going to the exact What
- 1:17:32time do you think you met at?
- 1:17:33>> Like
- 1:17:3610:30 or something like that.
- 1:17:37>> How long did you approximate for?
- 1:17:39>> Only about 10 minutes or so.
- 1:17:40>> And what was your conversation?
- 1:17:42>> Conversation was basically that he was
- 1:17:44brought up to speed, you know, and that
- 1:17:47he would take care of it.
- 1:17:48>> He was brought up speed by what? He was
- 1:17:50brought up to speed on like why I'm why
- 1:17:53I'm out here.
- 1:17:54>> Who brought him up to speed?
- 1:17:55>> My mom.
- 1:17:56>> Oh, so he talked to us.
- 1:17:57>> Yeah.
- 1:17:57>> He told you that mom had talked to us,
- 1:17:59>> right? I just I
- 1:18:00>> since the argument or when
- 1:18:02>> since I had left it was after it was
- 1:18:05after 9:00 p.m. But I just don't
- 1:18:07remember.
- 1:18:07>> So between 9 and approximately 10:30,
- 1:18:10right,
- 1:18:10>> you leave,
- 1:18:11>> right?
- 1:18:11>> Go down to on uh Fort
- 1:18:16>> Cody comes and talks to you about 10
- 1:18:17minutes. At some point, your mom has
- 1:18:19spoken to Cody based on what the
- 1:18:21conversation you have with him. Correct.
- 1:18:22>> Correct. Yeah.
- 1:18:23>> And she told him what had happened
- 1:18:25between you and your dad,
- 1:18:26>> right?
- 1:18:26>> Okay.
- 1:18:27>> Do you think that's why Cody left work?
- 1:18:30>> I mean, I I left work.
- 1:18:34>> No, he never said why he left work. But
- 1:18:36in my mind, I was just thinking, oh, he
- 1:18:38had been let off work early like three
- 1:18:40three times already this week. So, I was
- 1:18:42like
- 1:18:42>> 10 15 minutes you talk to Toby,
- 1:18:44>> right? um you have a conversation and he
- 1:18:47leaves to go home,
- 1:18:48>> right?
- 1:18:49>> And you leave to go where?
- 1:18:50>> And then I stay in that general area
- 1:18:53just so that if anything happened,
- 1:18:55somebody like knows where I am.
- 1:18:57>> So you went and had an interview with
- 1:18:59>> um I had an interview with the two
- 1:19:01managers, uh Erica and Terry.
- 1:19:04>> Erica and Terry. Females or males?
- 1:19:06>> Females.
- 1:19:07>> Okay. What did you wear? Where did you
- 1:19:08wear the interview?
- 1:19:09>> I wore my uh suit. Uh it's just like a
- 1:19:13men's warehouse. gray suit. Sure.
- 1:19:15>> Like uh brown shoes.
- 1:19:18>> Okay. So, you had the interview and it
- 1:19:19started approximately what time?
- 1:19:21>> Like 9:40.
- 1:19:22>> 9:40. Went till about when?
- 1:19:24>> Uh I think it was about an hour. So,
- 1:19:27like 10:30, 10:40 or so.
- 1:19:29>> They didn't offer you a job. I said they
- 1:19:30may have something coming for
- 1:19:32>> it's it seemed like promising, but then
- 1:19:34they said that they had one more person
- 1:19:35interview on Tuesday or Wednesday of
- 1:19:38this coming week. So, but they said that
- 1:19:40I would hear something from them
- 1:19:42regardless like Tuesday or Thursday. I
- 1:19:43want to jump back just a second. When
- 1:19:44you left the house,
- 1:19:46>> right,
- 1:19:46>> what were you wearing?
- 1:19:48>> Uh, when I left the house, I was just
- 1:19:50wearing
- 1:19:51um
- 1:19:53like my uh like black pants and then
- 1:19:57just uh
- 1:19:58>> just like just like workout pants kind
- 1:19:59of going.
- 1:20:00>> No, just Yeah, just like just like
- 1:20:02workout pants.
- 1:20:02>> Workout pants. Okay. And then I um I
- 1:20:06just had a black shirt on and then uh
- 1:20:10was wearing a jacket and I think just
- 1:20:12like one of my sweaters or jackets or
- 1:20:14something.
- 1:20:15>> Where'd you go from there?
- 1:20:16>> From there um I pretty much just drove
- 1:20:19around. I was thinking of like passing
- 1:20:23by the house, but I I inevitably decided
- 1:20:26against it. And then I was I thought
- 1:20:29that I had to do like a skills check off
- 1:20:32for the same exact thing. Then I had
- 1:20:34switched into into just like scrubs.
- 1:20:36>> Okay.
- 1:20:36>> Um but then that didn't end up needing
- 1:20:39to be done today or um on the same dayh
- 1:20:42>> and then I was pretty much just driving
- 1:20:44around. And I ended up going to
- 1:20:47Waterford or I I had gone back to the
- 1:20:49Publix area at one point.
- 1:20:51>> Mhm.
- 1:20:52>> Um because I wanted to see if I could
- 1:20:56um get my phone service back.
- 1:20:59>> Um but then I was told that I'm not like
- 1:21:01a registered user.
- 1:21:02>> Did you go to a phone store somewhere?
- 1:21:04>> Yeah.
- 1:21:04>> Which one?
- 1:21:04>> The Verizon. So
- 1:21:06>> talk to somebody.
- 1:21:07>> Yeah. I tried to get my phone service
- 1:21:09back and then
- 1:21:09>> Guy or girl?
- 1:21:10>> It was a guy.
- 1:21:11>> What did he look like? Um, he was a
- 1:21:14young guy, like maybe in his early 20s.
- 1:21:17He had black hair. I think he had like a
- 1:21:19goatee.
- 1:21:20>> Okay. Put me in the phone because why?
- 1:21:22>> Because I was told that I wasn't a
- 1:21:24registered user cuz it was under my
- 1:21:26dad's name and everything. And then um I
- 1:21:30was told I was a registered user and
- 1:21:31then that basically they can't do
- 1:21:34anything unless he gives the sign off.
- 1:21:37Right.
- 1:21:38>> The account holder has to approve of it.
- 1:21:39>> Right. Right.
- 1:21:40>> Didn't work.
- 1:21:41>> It didn't work. And then you went where?
- 1:21:42>> And then after that, I went back uh and
- 1:21:46then I think I just sat in my car for a
- 1:21:48little while cuz I was just thinking,
- 1:21:49okay, well, how am I going to do this
- 1:21:50with everything that just happened? And
- 1:21:53um
- 1:21:55from there, that's where I think I
- 1:21:58decided that I was going to maybe drive
- 1:22:00by the house.
- 1:22:01>> Did you go drive by?
- 1:22:03>> Did I? I didn't drive by the house. I
- 1:22:06like was starting to go there down that
- 1:22:08fourth Christmas road and then I was
- 1:22:09just like I'm just I'm not I'm not going
- 1:22:12to do it cuz as far as I know it's like
- 1:22:15you know dad's probably at work. I don't
- 1:22:18know if Cody works again today and you
- 1:22:20know just like with everything that had
- 1:22:22been happen drove down there.
- 1:22:23>> Yeah.
- 1:22:23>> Anything strange?
- 1:22:24>> No. I I had seen um I had just seen like
- 1:22:28a couple of cars like pass by me but
- 1:22:30>> cars
- 1:22:31>> like just standard like just a little
- 1:22:33bit of traffic. Then I stop off and I
- 1:22:36just I see if if there was like any
- 1:22:39email updates or anything like that and
- 1:22:41then
- 1:22:41>> your email. Yeah.
- 1:22:42>> Nothing.
- 1:22:42>> And then there was nothing. So then I
- 1:22:44was like, "Oh crap, it's not like
- 1:22:45today."
- 1:22:46>> But you've got to pay for things. You've
- 1:22:48got some money,
- 1:22:48>> right,
- 1:22:49>> in your account,
- 1:22:50>> right?
- 1:22:50>> You had Cody's card, right? You still
- 1:22:52have your dad's card?
- 1:22:53>> Yes.
- 1:22:54>> Okay. So I had that.
- 1:22:55>> Okay. Do you use any of them?
- 1:22:56>> I had used Cody's card to pay for one of
- 1:22:59my bills that was outstanding. Uh, it
- 1:23:02was just one of those from that site. It
- 1:23:04was just like a a bill that had backed
- 1:23:06up there. $599.99.
- 1:23:09>> Okay.
- 1:23:10>> Um,
- 1:23:10>> Cody, you know, you were doing that?
- 1:23:11>> Yeah.
- 1:23:12>> He said it okay to do that.
- 1:23:13>> He said to use this to like survive
- 1:23:16until things can get figured out because
- 1:23:19he knows that I only have, you know, a
- 1:23:20few hundred in my name.
- 1:23:22>> He told you that that night that you
- 1:23:24could use his card and pay off what
- 1:23:26needed to be paid off.
- 1:23:27>> Yeah. He he said to use it for like
- 1:23:30necessity. Did he give it to you?
- 1:23:31>> Yeah,
- 1:23:32>> he gave it. He said, "Here, take this
- 1:23:33in, do whatever." But that was normal
- 1:23:34for him though. He
- 1:23:35>> had always he was putting most of your
- 1:23:37bills right the time.
- 1:23:38>> Okay.
- 1:23:39>> And then at Waterford,
- 1:23:41>> did you stop anywhere over there?
- 1:23:42>> I come to Panera cuz I think that I'm
- 1:23:44going to get something to eat.
- 1:23:45>> What time?
- 1:23:46>> Um this was like right before I went to
- 1:23:49the to the hotel. So it was like 1:30,
- 1:23:522:00 in the afternoon, maybe.
- 1:23:54>> Okay. Um,
- 1:23:57and then in there, you know, I I think
- 1:23:59about getting something to eat, but then
- 1:24:01I don't really want to use like the
- 1:24:03other cards to pay for something, and
- 1:24:05then I know that I only have a little
- 1:24:06bit, but then I'm going to have to like
- 1:24:08sleep somewhere. And again, I'm trying
- 1:24:09to use like my money for that type of
- 1:24:11stuff.
- 1:24:12>> So then, yeah. So, I'm only in Panera
- 1:24:14for like 10 minutes or something like
- 1:24:15that. And then I end up leaving from
- 1:24:17there. And then that's where I go to the
- 1:24:19Double Tree. And then that's where I
- 1:24:20checked in. And then I was at the Double
- 1:24:22Tree all night. slept there last night,
- 1:24:25talked to anybody.
- 1:24:26>> Uh, I guess I messaged the girl that I'd
- 1:24:29been talking to on Twitter
- 1:24:30>> on Twitter. So, you have to pay for it.
- 1:24:32>> Right. Right.
- 1:24:33>> Back to you.
- 1:24:33>> Uh, I think once like one or two
- 1:24:36respond.
- 1:24:37>> What's What's your Twitter address? I'm
- 1:24:39sorry. I'm not person.
- 1:24:40>> No, it's just it's just Grant. A
- 1:24:42>> So, you stay there,
- 1:24:45>> right,
- 1:24:45>> and wake up this morning,
- 1:24:47>> right?
- 1:24:47>> Nobody else in the room.
- 1:24:48>> Nobody else in the room.
- 1:24:49>> Granted in your name.
- 1:24:50>> Rand in my name.
- 1:24:51>> Okay. You come out and do what? You
- 1:24:53probably go where you going?
- 1:24:55>> I was going to go down because I I had
- 1:24:57like one more bottle of water in my car
- 1:24:59and I had just finished eating like just
- 1:25:01a little granola bar thing. So I was
- 1:25:03like I'm just going to go down and get
- 1:25:04my bottle of water.
- 1:25:05>> Then you found what you go outside.
- 1:25:07>> All the police officers.
- 1:25:09>> And then when you left Cody, what did he
- 1:25:13say he was going to go do?
- 1:25:15>> Cody said that he will take care of it.
- 1:25:17>> Take care of what? just the situation
- 1:25:19that was at hand with whatever he had
- 1:25:22been updated with from my mom.
- 1:25:24>> Did he tell you what he was updated?
- 1:25:26>> He had told me that he had told me the
- 1:25:28reason why like I'd been kicked out. Um,
- 1:25:31but he really didn't give me that much
- 1:25:33dialogue like about that situation. You
- 1:25:36know, he was he was miffed a little bit
- 1:25:39because, you know, he had just gotten
- 1:25:41off work and now we have to go deal with
- 1:25:42this. And then after that, I mean, it
- 1:25:45was just he gave me the debit card to
- 1:25:47say, you know, to use this in case of
- 1:25:49emergencies. And then uh I mean, that
- 1:25:52was pretty much it because I don't know
- 1:25:53if like he had already said that he was
- 1:25:56on his way home or if there were
- 1:25:57expectations like for a time with him
- 1:26:00for making it home.
- 1:26:01>> But what was your demeanor like? What
- 1:26:02did Cody see you as? Like were you
- 1:26:04>> like scared? Yeah. I was scared because
- 1:26:07I mean, like I said, it's the first time
- 1:26:08that I had been out of the house, you
- 1:26:10know?
- 1:26:11>> You were scared of what? being on your
- 1:26:13own or did your father say or do
- 1:26:15anything to scare you?
- 1:26:16>> He had threatened me that if I stepped
- 1:26:18foot back on his property, not the
- 1:26:20house, but if I stepped foot back on his
- 1:26:21property that he would kill me and like
- 1:26:23he had
- 1:26:24>> he said those specific words. Yes.
- 1:26:25>> Did you tell that to Cody that your
- 1:26:27father told you that?
- 1:26:28>> No, I didn't.
- 1:26:30>> So, you're afraid of him?
- 1:26:31>> Oh, yeah.
- 1:26:32>> You are actually afraid that he could
- 1:26:35kill you.
- 1:26:35>> Yeah. And it's also because like in the
- 1:26:38past
- 1:26:40like two weeks before I got kicked out,
- 1:26:43my dad was going through like a lot of
- 1:26:46episodes where he was losing his temper
- 1:26:48a lot, yelling a lot, especially when me
- 1:26:50and Cody weren't at the house and um
- 1:26:53>> Who's he yelling at?
- 1:26:53>> My mom.
- 1:26:54>> So, was he being violent to your mom?
- 1:26:56>> Yeah, like I think
- 1:26:57>> physically or just emotionally?
- 1:26:59>> Both.
- 1:27:00>> Put his hands on her.
- 1:27:01>> He had bruised her left arm by grabbing
- 1:27:04it. Um, and then apparently she had said
- 1:27:07that on one of the nights that um, they
- 1:27:10were in the kitchen together and then he
- 1:27:12was like throwing food at her and then
- 1:27:14banged her head against the wall a
- 1:27:15couple times.
- 1:27:16>> So, and I'm not, let me speak of your
- 1:27:19dad, but he's kind of a violent guy.
- 1:27:21>> Yeah. I mean,
- 1:27:21>> you have a reason to be afraid of him.
- 1:27:23And then the thing that I was getting to
- 1:27:25was that apparently my mom was so scared
- 1:27:27at one point cuz it had been a while
- 1:27:29since she had been like this that she
- 1:27:31had taken like
- 1:27:34a couple or a number of voice memos on
- 1:27:36her phone whenever he would like come in
- 1:27:39and then start like she knew that you
- 1:27:40know some like he was going to start to
- 1:27:42get upset and that on multiple occasions
- 1:27:46um he had told her that if you or he had
- 1:27:50told her that basically if I fuck up
- 1:27:52sorry for language, but that if I if I
- 1:27:54screw up,
- 1:27:56>> he's going to kill me and then he's
- 1:27:58going to kill her.
- 1:27:59>> He said that specifically
- 1:28:00>> because he blames everything that
- 1:28:02happens negatively with me and with
- 1:28:05Jason, not with Cody, but with me and
- 1:28:06Jason on her because we're her favorite.
- 1:28:10>> So, you have a reasonable belief in your
- 1:28:14mind that your dad could could hurt you?
- 1:28:16>> Yes.
- 1:28:16>> He could hurt your mom.
- 1:28:17>> Yes.
- 1:28:18>> He could maybe hurt Jason.
- 1:28:20>> Yes.
- 1:28:21>> He's a violent guy. I'm sorry. I've been
- 1:28:23this a long time. He sounds like a
- 1:28:24violent guy.
- 1:28:25>> Yeah.
- 1:28:25>> Quick to lose his temper with him over
- 1:28:27minuscule stuff.
- 1:28:28>> Minuscule stuff.
- 1:28:29>> I get the point. He's upset about the
- 1:28:30amount of money. I get that.
- 1:28:32>> But physically, he's abusive.
- 1:28:35>> Yes.
- 1:28:36>> It's kind of embarrassing as you're an
- 1:28:37adult male right now. He's been abusive
- 1:28:39you for years, has he not?
- 1:28:41>> Yeah. I mean, more more mentally over
- 1:28:44the
- 1:28:45>> But it has been to the point where you
- 1:28:48as a 29y old male, right? I got to point
- 1:28:50out
- 1:28:51>> that you're afraid that your father
- 1:28:52could kill you.
- 1:28:53>> Yeah.
- 1:28:53>> Why do you think we're having this
- 1:28:54conversation?
- 1:28:56>> I honestly don't know, but I'm
- 1:28:59pretty freaked out at this point because
- 1:29:03you know it's uh I mean I know like how
- 1:29:06the situation was when I left and
- 1:29:10you know I thought that it was weird to
- 1:29:12begin with that I hadn't gotten any
- 1:29:15communication whatsoever. I mean like I
- 1:29:17like I had told you my brother Cody the
- 1:29:19last time um when I was away from the
- 1:29:22house that he was the one who outreached
- 1:29:23to me via email because again I didn't
- 1:29:25have my phone or anything like that.
- 1:29:27>> As a as a child we're told the truth
- 1:29:30always is the best thing to do. Correct.
- 1:29:32Correct. You agreement?
- 1:29:33>> Yeah.
- 1:29:33>> And accidents happen and things in the
- 1:29:35heat of the moment things happen that we
- 1:29:38wish hadn't happened but we make I I do
- 1:29:41it myself sometimes. my kids would make
- 1:29:42me so aggravated. I'll snap at them and
- 1:29:44then walk away and say, "Wow, I wish I
- 1:29:46would not have done that. That was not
- 1:29:47very adult of me to to snap at my child
- 1:29:50or something." Yes, they're wrong, but I
- 1:29:53should be the adult and not snap at
- 1:29:54them.
- 1:29:54>> Right.
- 1:29:58Tell me what you think because I I can
- 1:29:59tell by I've done this for a long long
- 1:30:01time and I read people the way they act
- 1:30:03and the way they they talk to me and the
- 1:30:05way they answer questions.
- 1:30:07There's something you want to tell us. I
- 1:30:09can see it in your eyes. cuz I can see
- 1:30:11it in your body language and just your
- 1:30:14the way you act.
- 1:30:16Now's the time. Now's the time. If
- 1:30:18there's something you want to get off
- 1:30:19your chest and give us an explanation of
- 1:30:21what's bothering you, now is the exact
- 1:30:24time to do it. And I I I'm I'm giving
- 1:30:26that opportunity
- 1:30:28um right now to tell me some something
- 1:30:31you want to get off your chest. It's
- 1:30:32there. I can see it in your face. I can
- 1:30:34see your eyes.
- 1:30:34>> Out about that night.
- 1:30:35>> You're upset about You're upset about
- 1:30:36you've been that since we've talked to
- 1:30:38you. I can see there's something been
- 1:30:39bothering you. Even though I don't know
- 1:30:41you from Adam's house cat, you see
- 1:30:42things in people that something's really
- 1:30:44bothering this guy. It's not that, you
- 1:30:46know, I spent a bunch of money I
- 1:30:47shouldn't have on this girl. So be it.
- 1:30:49You did. It's over with. Money can be
- 1:30:51made back. Something's bothering you.
- 1:30:54>> I'm just worried about what is all
- 1:30:57transpiring from this. I
- 1:30:59>> I think at this point right now, to be
- 1:31:01honest with you, Grant, you know what it
- 1:31:02is. Um it's in your eyes. your your eyes
- 1:31:07is is the view to your soul is it's in
- 1:31:10your eyes
- 1:31:10>> and we usually know answers before we
- 1:31:12ask it.
- 1:31:13>> I and we me and Eva knew everything
- 1:31:16before before um we ask your questions.
- 1:31:22Now's the time to to come to Jesus. Be
- 1:31:24honest cuz you're holding something
- 1:31:25back. I can see it in your eyes.
- 1:31:28People don't believe that the police
- 1:31:29will help you, but we are actually here
- 1:31:31to help you with issues you may have.
- 1:31:34Um, I think something happened and
- 1:31:38you don't want to tell us, but right now
- 1:31:40is the time to get it off your chest.
- 1:31:42And I really wish you would because it
- 1:31:44will make you feel better in the end.
- 1:31:47>> I I genuinely don't have anything else
- 1:31:49that I can say about the night or you
- 1:31:53know the the periods of time afterwards.
- 1:31:55>> Something that something that happened
- 1:31:58that caused you to defend yourself. No,
- 1:32:00because again it's like I didn't have I
- 1:32:03didn't have any means to defend myself.
- 1:32:05I mean I didn't Well,
- 1:32:08we know from talking to there's there's
- 1:32:11weapons in the house,
- 1:32:12>> right?
- 1:32:13>> We know that to be to be to be a fact.
- 1:32:16Something happened that caused you to
- 1:32:20defend yourself. Whether you had
- 1:32:22anything or not, you found something to
- 1:32:24defend yourself with.
- 1:32:26I can't tell you everything. I'm not
- 1:32:28going to tell you everything.
- 1:32:30But something happened. Whether your dad
- 1:32:33blew up on you,
- 1:32:36threatened you, physically harmed you,
- 1:32:38or hurt you,
- 1:32:40something happened that caused an
- 1:32:43altercation.
- 1:32:44>> And I I didn't do anything at the house
- 1:32:47besides get my stuff together and take
- 1:32:50it out to my car.
- 1:32:53>> There there is. And you're you're you're
- 1:32:55a better electronic. I am. I'm going to
- 1:32:56go into that. There's a digital
- 1:32:58footprint. And there's ways to see
- 1:33:00things that we know that don't make
- 1:33:03sense. Even though your phone may not
- 1:33:05have service, there's still
- 1:33:09issues with the phone,
- 1:33:10>> right?
- 1:33:10>> And it was on you the entire time. Yeah.
- 1:33:12>> And you left the house until you were in
- 1:33:15touch with law enforcement.
- 1:33:16>> I can track places you've been. And I
- 1:33:19know where you have been and I know what
- 1:33:20time you've been there. And what
- 1:33:24everything you're telling me isn't just
- 1:33:26pathetic and doesn't add up because
- 1:33:28because there's what I think, what you
- 1:33:30think, what she thinks, and there's
- 1:33:32things that are hard fact you can't
- 1:33:33manipulate. You know what I'm saying? I
- 1:33:36think something happened at the house
- 1:33:37based on my knowledge right now. And
- 1:33:40you're afraid to say it. You're afraid
- 1:33:42to to come back and say that I was a
- 1:33:45victim. I was hurt. I had something that
- 1:33:48happened there that I don't want you to
- 1:33:50tell me because it's something maybe
- 1:33:52embarrassing or not good, but
- 1:33:55I know a lot more than than I can let on
- 1:33:58right now.
- 1:33:58>> When I had come back that other time, I
- 1:34:00crossed in front of the the red the
- 1:34:05deuce fence, the red blinking light
- 1:34:07ones. Um,
- 1:34:08>> what time was that?
- 1:34:09>> I can't I can't remember.
- 1:34:10>> That was that was Friday during the day
- 1:34:12when you said you were going to come
- 1:34:12back,
- 1:34:13>> right? Yeah.
- 1:34:14>> Okay. But it was after you did your
- 1:34:16interview,
- 1:34:17>> correct?
- 1:34:17>> Okay.
- 1:34:18>> If you did that, you would have seen
- 1:34:20something and there would be something
- 1:34:21out of the ordinary that you would have
- 1:34:22seen. If you passed that, you passed
- 1:34:25something out of the ordinary. What was
- 1:34:26it?
- 1:34:27>> I saw like a news van and then uh
- 1:34:33I don't think there there might have
- 1:34:34been like a cop car there. There was
- 1:34:36like traffic being human nature. Human
- 1:34:39nature. What do people do when I go back
- 1:34:42to my old neighborhood? And I've lived a
- 1:34:44couple places in Central Florida in the
- 1:34:4623 years I've been here. I see something
- 1:34:48major going on. I get on my phone or I
- 1:34:50get on my computer some look what I
- 1:34:51wonder what was happen by my
- 1:34:52neighborhood and look
- 1:34:55>> does that spark your attention.
- 1:34:57>> I was digital footprint of of what where
- 1:35:02I went on my phone. It's right here
- 1:35:04phone. They can tell me I looked I
- 1:35:07looked at these maps on my phone because
- 1:35:09it's on there. The memory is there. You
- 1:35:11can't delete it. You can't
- 1:35:14You came back to the neighborhood. You
- 1:35:16saw some things that are really out of
- 1:35:18the ordinary
- 1:35:19>> and I don't believe for a second that
- 1:35:21you thought that I'm not going to look
- 1:35:23what's going on. What happened to my
- 1:35:24neighborhood?
- 1:35:24>> I I I mean I didn't search it up on
- 1:35:28anything on any of the devices that I
- 1:35:30have.
- 1:35:30>> Did you search it somewhere else
- 1:35:32>> at uh remember like I said, I know
- 1:35:36things that you don't know and honesty
- 1:35:38will get you all the the things I could
- 1:35:41do for you. be honest. I can't deal with
- 1:35:43someone who lies to me.
- 1:35:45>> But I'll deal with someone and help them
- 1:35:47till the end. No matter what, believe it
- 1:35:49or not, that's just me. And she'll tell
- 1:35:51you, I'm very it's it's what it is. I'm
- 1:35:54going to be honest with you. I'm going
- 1:35:56to say if I can do something that can
- 1:35:58help you, I'm going to help you because
- 1:35:59every one of us make mistakes and do
- 1:36:01things we shouldn't have done in the
- 1:36:03heat of the moment to protect ourselves
- 1:36:05or to protect somebody else. It happens.
- 1:36:10I know you've searched for something. I
- 1:36:12know something. I can't tell you
- 1:36:14exactly,
- 1:36:15but you said you won't you tell me. I'll
- 1:36:17tell you if you're being what you search
- 1:36:19>> on. Uh when I had gone to the Panera, I
- 1:36:23searched for like top stories
- 1:36:27ovito or Julio or something like that.
- 1:36:29>> You found what? And then I saw that
- 1:36:31there was uh it was like just the
- 1:36:35initial
- 1:36:37like it had like a video, but I didn't I
- 1:36:39didn't listen to the video, but it had
- 1:36:40just an initial thing of that there was
- 1:36:44shootings in Salt and Circle, but it
- 1:36:46didn't say like the address or who was
- 1:36:48involved. It was just like the this is
- 1:36:50the preliminary
- 1:36:51>> one of the news stations.
- 1:36:53>> Um
- 1:36:54>> what what was what was what was the site
- 1:36:56you searched?
- 1:36:57>> I can't I honestly can't remember. I
- 1:36:59think it was one of the wishes but
- 1:37:00>> and you saw the story cuz we've seen the
- 1:37:02same stories. You seen the story because
- 1:37:04there's a thing that will tell me how
- 1:37:06long of the of the time you spent on it,
- 1:37:09right?
- 1:37:09>> You saw what happened.
- 1:37:11>> Yeah. I was on there for like 20
- 1:37:13seconds.
- 1:37:13>> Yeah. What was your thoughts when you
- 1:37:14reviewed that story?
- 1:37:16>> I was freaking out and I like I didn't I
- 1:37:20was just like blank. I didn't know what
- 1:37:22to do.
- 1:37:23>> So, what do you think happened all this?
- 1:37:27I think that there was something that
- 1:37:29obviously happened at the house.
- 1:37:31>> Tell me what happened.
- 1:37:32>> I don't know what happened.
- 1:37:35>> I know better. Listen to me. I know
- 1:37:38better. I can help you, Grant. With
- 1:37:40honesty. I can help you with honesty. We
- 1:37:44think something else happened before you
- 1:37:45left the home that you're either afraid
- 1:37:48of or embarrassed to talk about,
- 1:37:52but we need to know exactly what
- 1:37:54happened cuz like Danny said, we can
- 1:37:55place you there at certain times. And so
- 1:37:58we need to know what happened before you
- 1:38:00left that house because you didn't leave
- 1:38:03with everything being okay.
- 1:38:05>> I I honestly I don't I don't have
- 1:38:08anything else that I can really say. I
- 1:38:10mean, I don't I don't know. Do you even
- 1:38:12know why law enforcement got involved?
- 1:38:17>> Like what what brought us to that home?
- 1:38:20>> No. Okay.
- 1:38:22You just said it. You know something bad
- 1:38:24happened there out of your voice. Not
- 1:38:26mine. I didn't I have not told you
- 1:38:27anything what's happened there.
- 1:38:29Something bad happened. You're here with
- 1:38:32us for a couple hours. you you admit
- 1:38:34that you've looked at at a site and seen
- 1:38:37something bad happen because the video
- 1:38:40is not of just a general area. It's of a
- 1:38:42specific location. You've been here with
- 1:38:44us. You think something bad has happened
- 1:38:47at your house and today so long you
- 1:38:50haven't asked us about anybody.
- 1:38:53>> Well, that's because for the like the
- 1:38:55last time that I was arrested, I mean
- 1:38:57like nobody would tell me anything. I'm
- 1:39:00once you start telling me something
- 1:39:01that's truthful that I know,
- 1:39:05then we're going to have a conversation
- 1:39:06of exactly what happened.
- 1:39:08>> I mean, you're a smart guy. You know
- 1:39:10something's happened at your home. You
- 1:39:12have law enforcement here. You haven't
- 1:39:14heard or gotten any
- 1:39:16>> I mean, I'm just scared as to what the
- 1:39:19answer is.
- 1:39:20>> Did anything more happen with you and
- 1:39:22your father besides him grabbing you up
- 1:39:23from the couch and yelling at you and
- 1:39:27kicking you out? Anything
- 1:39:30that at all? Did he
- 1:39:33pull? Did he harm you? Hit you?
- 1:39:36>> No.
- 1:39:37>> Throw any weapons on you?
- 1:39:38>> No, he didn't do anything like that.
- 1:39:43I mean, he was just yelling.
- 1:39:45>> A wise man told me one time, once a a
- 1:39:48bomb goes off, you can't diffuse it. You
- 1:39:51can't. It's already out there. Now is
- 1:39:54the point say, "How do I put band-aids
- 1:39:55on myself to minimize the the injuries I
- 1:39:59have?" And we're giving you that
- 1:40:00opportunity. I think you're going
- 1:40:02through a very stressful and emotional
- 1:40:03time right now with being out of work
- 1:40:05and just dealing with all the problems
- 1:40:06with with the arrest. You're probably
- 1:40:09not used to depending on somebody to pay
- 1:40:10all your bills. You now having to do mom
- 1:40:12and dad or have to have to give you
- 1:40:13money. Cody's having to give you money.
- 1:40:16And there's a significant debt to
- 1:40:18people. $200,000. I don't know what I'd
- 1:40:20do. I mean, mortgage, yeah, I get it. or
- 1:40:22something like that or or a medical bill
- 1:40:24for my child. Yeah, I get it. But
- 1:40:26talking to some girl, you know, in
- 1:40:28Bulgaria, you know, you you you hit it
- 1:40:30right. You were embarrassed about it.
- 1:40:31And you have nothing to be embarrassed
- 1:40:32about about.
- 1:40:33>> And you said you had a connection with
- 1:40:34her.
- 1:40:35>> Yeah. I mean, I must I just I don't It's
- 1:40:38like it's words that like I can't think
- 1:40:40of to even say, but I'm assuming that,
- 1:40:47you know, when you see that there is a
- 1:40:48shooting somewhere that and it's around
- 1:40:51and it's
- 1:40:53that it's it has to do with my family.
- 1:40:56Like I I just I don't know how to even
- 1:40:58say the words.
- 1:41:00>> Well, what what give me around about
- 1:41:02what you're thinking?
- 1:41:04>> That somebody in my family's dead.
- 1:41:11And how does that make you feel if you
- 1:41:12think if you're thinking that
- 1:41:14>> I have absolutely no
- 1:41:20ability to to comprehend the words cuz
- 1:41:23like I said I've been there for my whole
- 1:41:26entire life and even though there's been
- 1:41:28struggles and everything like that there
- 1:41:30hasn't ever been any issues.
- 1:41:32>> But we need to know what happened.
- 1:41:35I mean, I know I can tell that you guys
- 1:41:37are like leading me into a certain way
- 1:41:40of what
- 1:41:42>> the only thing we're leading you to is
- 1:41:43want to get the truth from you. Not
- 1:41:45trying to make you say something that's
- 1:41:46not true, that's not accurate. The
- 1:41:49truth. The end. That's it. That's all we
- 1:41:52want is the absolute truth. Do we know
- 1:41:55what happened? Yeah, we we we already
- 1:41:57know what happened. But it has to still
- 1:42:00come from you with the truth because the
- 1:42:02parties involved.
- 1:42:04That's in all cases you want the truth
- 1:42:06from. I don't want somebody to say
- 1:42:07something that's not true. Absolutely
- 1:42:08not. I want them to say this is what
- 1:42:12happened and here's why it happened.
- 1:42:14>> I mean, apart from the times maybe being
- 1:42:16wrong, I don't
- 1:42:19I genuinely don't have anything else
- 1:42:20that I can say about what transpired the
- 1:42:24during the night time.
- 1:42:28You left your house,
- 1:42:31>> everybody was fine.
- 1:42:32>> Yeah.
- 1:42:32>> And when you left Cody,
- 1:42:34>> everything was fine.
- 1:42:39>> Well, we got called to the house because
- 1:42:41Cody didn't show up to work.
- 1:42:44>> So, law enforcement goes over there. And
- 1:42:48can you tell us what we found?
- 1:42:59What do you think we found when law
- 1:43:01enforcement arrived at your home?
- 1:43:03I mean, you guys are talking about guns
- 1:43:05and you're talking about other things
- 1:43:08that
- 1:43:16uh
- 1:43:20and then the uh the website and
- 1:43:22everything that something happened to
- 1:43:25him.
- 1:43:26>> Who's him? Cody,
- 1:43:33>> did you do anything to Cody?
- 1:43:35>> No.
- 1:43:36>> Did you do anything to your mother?
- 1:43:37>> No.
- 1:43:38>> Did you do anything to your father?
- 1:43:40>> No. No. The only thing that I was told
- 1:43:42was that Cody would take care of it for
- 1:43:44me.
- 1:43:46That's all that I know.
- 1:43:47>> But you didn't tell Cody what your
- 1:43:48father said to you. Correct.
- 1:43:50>> Correct.
- 1:43:51>> So, when Cody made those comments to
- 1:43:53you, what do you believe he meant by
- 1:43:55that? Have you guys ever talked about
- 1:43:59>> that? He was going to
- 1:44:01I thought he was just going to do what
- 1:44:03he always does, which is where he just
- 1:44:05talks about it and he figures out
- 1:44:08whatever strategy he needs to.
- 1:44:10>> So if anything happened in the home to
- 1:44:12bring law enforcement there, what would
- 1:44:14you think happened?
- 1:44:18>> That there was a shooting
- 1:44:22>> between whom?
- 1:44:24>> I don't know.
- 1:44:27between Cody and and my dad.
- 1:44:33>> And why would you think that?
- 1:44:37>> To protect me or to help me or to do
- 1:44:39something with me.
- 1:44:44>> So, you're telling me you did not shoot
- 1:44:45Cody, your father, or your mother?
- 1:44:48>> No.
- 1:44:53I mean, I don't know like what more I
- 1:44:55can say.
- 1:44:56>> Well, when law enforcement arrives,
- 1:44:58that's what they found.
- 1:45:04So, you're the only outstanding child.
- 1:45:07You're the one that's been having
- 1:45:08problems with your dad. You're the one
- 1:45:10that we haven't been able to find for
- 1:45:12two days. Do you understand now? Why
- 1:45:14would we would be questioning you about
- 1:45:16this?
- 1:45:17>> Yeah, but I mean, I wouldn't
- 1:45:20Like I mean I wouldn't be saying like
- 1:45:23all like I don't know the way to I I I
- 1:45:27don't I don't I don't know like what to
- 1:45:29even say.
- 1:45:30>> So if anything happened in the home, you
- 1:45:32believe it would be Cody and him?
- 1:45:34>> Yes.
- 1:45:35Cuz I was I mean I don't I
- 1:45:39I I don't have
- 1:45:41you access to anything.
- 1:45:43>> Well, I can tell you from what we know
- 1:45:45right now because you know what the news
- 1:45:46has said, correct? Do you know what the
- 1:45:48news has said?
- 1:45:49>> I I only know that first story that I
- 1:45:52saw and then I didn't look again.
- 1:45:54>> And what what's the first story say?
- 1:45:56>> That there was a shooting in the Sultan
- 1:45:59Circle area and the investigation is
- 1:46:02ongoing.
- 1:46:03>> Okay. And what do they say? They say the
- 1:46:04status of the people inside the house.
- 1:46:06What they say cuz all the news have
- 1:46:07reported the same thing. Every one of
- 1:46:09the sheriff has held a press conference.
- 1:46:11the sheriff has provided information to
- 1:46:12the media
- 1:46:14>> and it's all it's known
- 1:46:16>> all that
- 1:46:16>> what has happened in the home
- 1:46:17>> all that I had all that I saw was
- 1:46:20literally like the paragraph and then
- 1:46:22the last sentence was there's an
- 1:46:23investigation ongoing and then I
- 1:46:25>> you saw more because at Panera when you
- 1:46:28said you pulled it up
- 1:46:32they they um
- 1:46:35they um had more information they had
- 1:46:39more information just and his funeral.
- 1:46:41There's a lot more information was
- 1:46:42given. It was all over the news by by
- 1:46:44that time. The new news report exactly
- 1:46:47what had happened. We know
- 1:46:51that
- 1:46:53Cody
- 1:46:55didn't shoot your dad. We know Cody
- 1:46:57didn't shoot your mom. We know Cody
- 1:47:00didn't shoot himself. There's something.
- 1:47:02>> You still haven't asked us the position
- 1:47:04of them or anything. That's because I'm
- 1:47:06I'm I mean I don't know what the normal
- 1:47:09proceedings are, but I don't I mean I
- 1:47:11>> the normal proceedings are for you to be
- 1:47:12honest about what happened
- 1:47:14>> and then we help you understand
- 1:47:15everything that's go that's going to
- 1:47:16going on from here on on out of what our
- 1:47:19responsibilities are
- 1:47:20>> and we don't believe you're being
- 1:47:21honest. We feel that you are leaving
- 1:47:23something out about what happened in
- 1:47:24that home
- 1:47:26and the evidence tells us what happened
- 1:47:28in the home but you need to fill in the
- 1:47:30blanks and again your cell phone's going
- 1:47:32to put you in the areas
- 1:47:35You know, we're going to check exactly
- 1:47:37where you were throughout the entire
- 1:47:39time you started this conversation.
- 1:47:42>> No,
- 1:47:42>> you went back to the house and did
- 1:47:44something or how long you were there.
- 1:47:45We're going to know.
- 1:47:47>> No, I mean I never did anything like
- 1:47:49that.
- 1:47:50>> Just things like look, remember I told
- 1:47:51digital footprint?
- 1:47:52>> Yeah.
- 1:47:52>> EP pass tells me where you went. We have
- 1:47:54a thing called they're called Elgar's
- 1:47:56license plate readers at different
- 1:47:57places all over everywhere. And every
- 1:48:00time your car passes or any car I look
- 1:48:01at I have somebody one of our intel
- 1:48:03girls put in or guys put in thing. Hey
- 1:48:05this tag went by there. Yep. Has it been
- 1:48:07in a certain place? Yep. It tells me
- 1:48:09exactly where you at. Here's your
- 1:48:11brother. The guy who's always looked out
- 1:48:13for you. Correct. Pay for your trip to
- 1:48:14China or Japan. I'm sorry. Paid bills.
- 1:48:18Your dad and your brother have paid
- 1:48:20$200,000 of this video chat whatever
- 1:48:23with the virtual not the virtual grow
- 1:48:25Bulgaria.
- 1:48:28Dad's pissed about the the cost. I'm
- 1:48:30sure I' I'd be upset, too. $200,000.
- 1:48:32Think of a car you could have for
- 1:48:33$200,000 or paid off college debt or
- 1:48:36whatever. Some girl in Bulgaria got
- 1:48:38basically your college debt. Now, I'm
- 1:48:40sure your brother and dad may have been
- 1:48:41as happy if you take that 100 grand,
- 1:48:43paid off that that that program, but
- 1:48:46there's a lot of pressure on you. I get
- 1:48:47it. I need you to step over, man. Right
- 1:48:50there. You're right there at the end,
- 1:48:51ready to go. We're ready to to to to
- 1:48:54take the information from you and and
- 1:48:56move forward. We're there. I just need
- 1:48:58to I just need you to take that last
- 1:49:00step over and say, "All right, let me
- 1:49:01tell you what else." Now, seeing
- 1:49:03>> So, what is it you need to tell us
- 1:49:05>> that we're missing?
- 1:49:06>> Step over.
- 1:49:08>> I mean, the only thing that I know is
- 1:49:10just that
- 1:49:12I mean, I I uh left the house later than
- 1:49:15what I had said.
- 1:49:17Um,
- 1:49:20>> did you leave the house with your
- 1:49:22brother Cody looking like that
- 1:49:26or did you leave the house with your
- 1:49:28father looking like that or your mother?
- 1:49:32Is that how you left your family?
- 1:49:35>> No.
- 1:49:38>> Nobody. Nobody else went into that
- 1:49:40house.
- 1:49:41>> Who left your family like this? If you
- 1:49:43were the one that's been depressed, you
- 1:49:45were the one that owes money, you were
- 1:49:46the one that got into a confrontation
- 1:49:47with your father, who did this to your
- 1:49:49family,
- 1:49:53if you were trying to defend yourself or
- 1:49:56something else happened, we need to know
- 1:49:57now to help you.
- 1:50:02So tell us what happened, Grant.
- 1:50:07We're here to listen to you. Need
- 1:50:08>> the truth. We're we're here to make this
- 1:50:11right.
- 1:50:13You got to tell the truth. It's on the
- 1:50:15tip of your tongue, my man. I get that.
- 1:50:17>> Did your father go after you and you try
- 1:50:19to protect yourself?
- 1:50:20>> No, I didn't do any of this.
- 1:50:29>> The evidence tells us what happened. You
- 1:50:31have to fill in the blanks. They can't
- 1:50:33tell me what happened.
- 1:50:35>> Fact. I know. She She never She never
- 1:50:38held a gun. She didn't have a gun that
- 1:50:40night. Fact. He never fired a gun. Fact.
- 1:50:44He never fired a gun. Never did. This is
- 1:50:47the person right here. Mom, who always
- 1:50:51stuck up for you. Something happened so
- 1:50:53bad that caused her death, your dad's
- 1:50:57death, and Cody. And I I I'll tell you
- 1:50:59just about how it happened. One, two,
- 1:51:01three. Based on evidence. Based on
- 1:51:04evidence. I know he did not shoot your
- 1:51:07mom. I know he didn't shoot your dad. I
- 1:51:09know he didn't shoot himself.
- 1:51:12Listen to me. Hey, I know video
- 1:51:15surveillance tells me everything that
- 1:51:17happened this night. I'm telling you of
- 1:51:19people that that you'd be surprised who
- 1:51:22in your neighborhood has video. And I
- 1:51:24know that nobody There's only four
- 1:51:26people at this house during this time.
- 1:51:29One, two, three, four. Tell me. You got
- 1:51:32to tell me, man. You got to tell me. Get
- 1:51:35over that over that hoop. The video is
- 1:51:37the video. If you're sitting there
- 1:51:39saying no, no, no, no, no. And video
- 1:51:41shows something else, guess what? Big
- 1:51:43problem.
- 1:51:44>> I mean, there's just there's just
- 1:51:46nothing else that I can say.
- 1:51:50>> There's nothing else that happened in
- 1:51:51that home while you were there that
- 1:51:53would lead up to this.
- 1:51:54>> No.
- 1:51:55>> Your father didn't point a gun at you?
- 1:51:58>> There was nothing else more than what I
- 1:52:00had done.
- 1:52:02>> Then who do you think did this?
- 1:52:04>> I don't know.
- 1:52:07I don't I don't have the answer.
- 1:52:22As you can see, at this point in the
- 1:52:24interrogation, Grant completely shuts
- 1:52:27down. The evidence is overwhelming. In
- 1:52:30July 2019, Grant Amato stood trial. The
- 1:52:34prosecutors detailed his obsession and
- 1:52:36financial deceit. They presented digital
- 1:52:39evidence and testimonies highlighting
- 1:52:42Grant's obsession and financial
- 1:52:44escapades. Prosecutors argue his
- 1:52:47obsession with Sylvie, the webcam girl,
- 1:52:50led to the murders of his mom, dad, and
- 1:52:53brother. And on July 31st, he was found
- 1:52:56guilty on all counts. He was sentenced
- 1:52:59to three consecutive life terms without
- 1:53:01the possibility of parole. Dated August
- 1:53:0412th, 2019. Grant's story serves as a
- 1:53:07chilling reminder of how digital
- 1:53:09obsessions can spiral into realworld
- 1:53:13consequences. As a matter of fact, his
- 1:53:15case continues to captivate and caution
- 1:53:18audiences worldwide because in the
- 1:53:21digital age, the lines between virtual
- 1:53:24and reality are blurred. And
- 1:53:26unfortunately for the Amato family, this
- 1:53:29blur proved fatal. The story of Grant
- 1:53:32Amato serves as a harrowing reminder of
- 1:53:36how unchecked obsession and deceit can
- 1:53:39lead to unimaginable tragedy. This
- 1:53:42particular case captivated the nation,
- 1:53:44culminating in a docu series that delved
- 1:53:48into the psychological aspects of
- 1:53:51Grant's obsession. And where's Grant
- 1:53:53today? Well, in a shocking twist, Grant
- 1:53:56Amato was later implicated in a murder
- 1:53:59for hire plot from prison, further
- 1:54:01tarnishing his evil legacy.
- 1:54:04>> I'm told that you all have reached a
- 1:54:06verdict.
- 1:54:08>> All right. If you could please hand the
- 1:54:09deputy the verdict forms, please.
- 1:54:12>> Madame clerk, if you could please
- 1:54:13publish the verdicts.

- 1:54:17>> you could please stand, Mr. Amato.
