  1. 0:00How much do wars really cost? Weapons,
  2. 0:03tanks, and planes alone cost the world
  3. 0:05almost $3 trillion a year. But
  4. 0:08rebuilding everything they destroyed
  5. 0:09[music] adds hundreds of billions more
  6. 0:11to the bill. And costs can stack up long
  7. 0:14after the bombs stop [music] falling.
  8. 0:16War destroys the land itself. When
  9. 0:19fields are filled with landmines that
  10. 0:20cost [music] up to $1,000 each to
  11. 0:22remove, or drone fiber optic cables,
  12. 0:24they're left unfarmable. Businesses go
  13. 0:27bankrupt and investors flee. [music]
  14. 0:29Meanwhile, government responses trigger
  15. 0:31inflation that eats up civilian savings.
  16. 0:3310 years after a conflict starts,
  17. 0:35countries and [music] their people end
  18. 0:37up on average 12% poorer. But some of
  19. 0:39the greatest costs are carried by the
  20. 0:41younger generations who make up around
  21. 0:4340% of war refugees. Those who stay fall
  22. 0:47years behind as schools [music] are
  23. 0:48destroyed. Those who can leave, and this
  24. 0:51brain drain can make countries billions
  25. 0:53of dollars poorer. But the costs of war
  26. 0:55aren't just financial. War makes anxiety
  27. 0:57[music] and depression around three
  28. 0:58times more likely. Trauma is literally
  29. 1:00passed on to kids in their DNA. And
  30. 1:03worse, countries that go to war once are
  31. 1:05more likely [music] to go to war again.
  32. 1:07So, war doesn't just destroy the
  33. 1:08present, it also kills the future.
