  1. 0:00the average person loses 21.8 hours per
  2. 0:03week on low value activities that do
  3. 0:05nothing for their life or career so in
  4. 0:07this video I'm sharing my minimalist
  5. 0:08time management tips to help you cut
  6. 0:11more than 10 hours from your week of
  7. 0:13that extra stuff that's just not doing
  8. 0:15anything for you and if you think
  9. 0:17effective time management means having
  10. 0:18complicated systems in place you are
  11. 0:20going to love the Simplicity of this
  12. 0:22approach starting with the time audit
  13. 0:25all goals feel very far away when we
  14. 0:28just don't take inventory of what what
  15. 0:30the situation actually is things can
  16. 0:32seem better than they actually are
  17. 0:34things can seem worse than they actually
  18. 0:36are but have you figured out what it
  19. 0:38actually is that's what the time audit
  20. 0:41is all about in order to cut the fat
  21. 0:43time that's not well spent we have to
  22. 0:44know where to find it so auditing where
  23. 0:47you spend your time is the first step we
  24. 0:49don't have to make big sweeping changes
  25. 0:51yet it's about what is the case right
  26. 0:54now no need to judge just figure it out
  27. 0:57track it see it understand it wrap your
  28. 1:00mind around it and go hm I don't really
  29. 1:02like that about my life and I can make a
  30. 1:04change I want you to commit to doing
  31. 1:06this for at least 7 days you got five
  32. 1:09solid weekday in there two weekend days
  33. 1:11whatever those days are for you get a
  34. 1:14good idea of what an average week looks
  35. 1:17like not just an average day cuz they
  36. 1:19all can vary for lots of reasons and
  37. 1:21when you start tracking literally track
  38. 1:23everything maybe even just pull out a
  39. 1:25note in your phone or a note card in
  40. 1:27your pocket to write down the time time
  41. 1:30how much time you're spending on what
  42. 1:31you're doing and just leave it at that
  43. 1:33put it away like it's a little diary you
  44. 1:35don't have to get hyperfocused on it you
  45. 1:36don't have to shift and move around and
  46. 1:38try something else something better that
  47. 1:40you would rather write down be honest
  48. 1:42with yourself about where you're
  49. 1:43spending your time whether you spent 30
  50. 1:45minutes on your side hustle this week or
  51. 1:473 hours whether you spent 30 minutes
  52. 1:49watching Netflix on a Wednesday night or
  53. 1:523 hours write them down no judgment no
  54. 1:55in your feels just get a state of what
  55. 1:57it is once you've reached the end of
  56. 1:59your week and you've been really honest
  57. 2:01with yourself you've just proceeded like
  58. 2:03all is normal go back and look at
  59. 2:06everything I like to put everything in
  60. 2:08three categories essential growth and
  61. 2:10waste I want you to hear this from me
  62. 2:13right now there are going to be things
  63. 2:15in waste that are not that bad it's just
  64. 2:17about moderation how much time are we
  65. 2:21wasting because you got to think that we
  66. 2:23can't be down to the minute about
  67. 2:25everything in life the more freedom you
  68. 2:27have the better you are so that's why
  69. 2:29we're doing this not so you can lock
  70. 2:31down every hour and feel most productive
  71. 2:35no matter what time it is or how much
  72. 2:37you cared a little bit of time to enjoy
  73. 2:40life might look wasteful in a category
  74. 2:43but it all depends on where you are in
  75. 2:45this season how you're feeling about
  76. 2:46your success level and what changes you
  77. 2:49want to see so let's unpack these
  78. 2:50categories essential this includes work
  79. 2:53family responsibilities maybe anything
  80. 2:55that you need to maintain your health
  81. 2:57the have toos like yes yes this is a
  82. 3:00part of my life and it is not going
  83. 3:02anywhere growth this is learning
  84. 3:04self-care relationship development
  85. 3:07personal development anything that's
  86. 3:09helping to grow you and then there's
  87. 3:12waste maybe a little bit of social media
  88. 3:14scrolling some TV watching perhaps
  89. 3:18you've clocked some unnecessary meetings
  90. 3:20you didn't need to attend to and if they
  91. 3:22weren't meetings maybe they were events
  92. 3:24that were not essential to your
  93. 3:26relationships but something you felt you
  94. 3:28had to do because of social norms I will
  95. 3:32let you define what goes into each of
  96. 3:34your categories based on how you feel
  97. 3:36about your life but just give them a
  98. 3:39place so that you know where the easiest
  99. 3:42opportunity to cut things out will
  100. 3:44appear the reality is that people
  101. 3:46underestimate their waste time by
  102. 3:4940% you just don't think you're spending
  103. 3:51that much wasteful time we don't like to
  104. 3:53think that about ourselves we think we
  105. 3:55are going about it you know with the
  106. 3:56best possible foot forward it doesn't
  107. 3:58mean that you're not you just might not
  108. 4:00be asking better questions about where
  109. 4:02that time is being spent by looking at
  110. 4:04it here and highlighting at a certain
  111. 4:06color and seeing how much of it that you
  112. 4:09do you've probably got a new
  113. 4:11conversation to have with yourself that
  114. 4:13makes you realize okay we have not been
  115. 4:16fully objective about this once you have
  116. 4:19an understanding of how your time audit
  117. 4:21is looking this is your homework look
  118. 4:23for at least one to two hours of your
  119. 4:26week that you can cut out from weight
  120. 4:29waste this makes it possible for you to
  121. 4:31continue enjoying your favorite TV shows
  122. 4:33or still check out what's happening on
  123. 4:35social media so you don't fall behind
  124. 4:37but by finding one to two hours that you
  125. 4:39can take out of that equation and maybe
  126. 4:41put it into growth and say oh I'm
  127. 4:44actually going to commit to going to
  128. 4:46Fitness classes during those times or
  129. 4:48I'm going to commit to reading that book
  130. 4:49I've been meaning to get to for at least
  131. 4:51one to two hours next week recover any
  132. 4:54hours that you can start to shift small
  133. 4:57steps make big moves and put them toward
  134. 4:59something that would make you feel like
  135. 5:01you're actually taking control of your
  136. 5:03life it will become so addictive you're
  137. 5:06going to keep trying to reduce waste as
  138. 5:09much as you can Pro tip I watch reality
  139. 5:11shows when I am at the gym on the
  140. 5:12StairMaster love it just makes it so
  141. 5:15much easier to not feel bad about that
  142. 5:17time let's talk about the calendar block
  143. 5:19system if you're new here then wow
  144. 5:21you're going to love this we are big
  145. 5:24fans of calendar blocking and time
  146. 5:26batching here at Amy TV the core belief
  147. 5:28system around calendar blocking is just
  148. 5:30agreeing to focus and having the
  149. 5:33intention of focus on whatever it is you
  150. 5:35do so for instance calendar block the
  151. 5:37time you spend with your family in the
  152. 5:39evenings that block of time let's say
  153. 5:41it's from 5: until 8:00 is all about
  154. 5:45them it's focusing on the kids asking
  155. 5:48them about their day maybe we're making
  156. 5:50up some dinner maybe we're not making up
  157. 5:52some dinner we're going to go out and
  158. 5:53about and do something when you look at
  159. 5:55it as a block and not an afterthought
  160. 5:57not a okay let's hurry up and end the
  161. 5:59day and also what else can I get done
  162. 6:01while we're doing this you're more
  163. 6:03intentional it's better time spent for
  164. 6:05everyone involved the alternative is
  165. 6:07looking at it like how can we multitask
  166. 6:10during that time I still have some
  167. 6:11emails I need to get done and the kids
  168. 6:13are fine so maybe I'll just tidy up the
  169. 6:15playroom upstairs you're doing all the
  170. 6:18things but if the block is to spend time
  171. 6:20with family tidying and emails and all
  172. 6:23of that stuff does not make the cut
  173. 6:25that's a simple example now look at that
  174. 6:28and do that with everything else if you
  175. 6:30need time to work on that project block
  176. 6:32out the time and block is the active
  177. 6:34word you might Reserve 2 to three hours
  178. 6:37on your calendar to block and nothing
  179. 6:40else is allowed to enter that time no
  180. 6:42meetings can interrupt you can't also be
  181. 6:44doing admin it's focus on the project
  182. 6:47and get it through the finish line if
  183. 6:49you can or further along so that you've
  184. 6:51actually made real Focus progress on it
  185. 6:54time batching while also calendar
  186. 6:55blocking is the best time batching is
  187. 6:59when you take a like task and you add
  188. 7:02all of them to the same calendar block
  189. 7:05so for instance I'm sitting here and I'm
  190. 7:06shooting this video right now and I have
  191. 7:08time batched A lot of content for a
  192. 7:10couple reasons first of all I just went
  193. 7:12and got my hair done today how's it look
  194. 7:14I got my makeup done I've got the neon
  195. 7:16lights on everything is up and running
  196. 7:19so it makes sense to do one two three
  197. 7:22maybe four videos if I've got it in me
  198. 7:24which these days I don't I don't get
  199. 7:25that high I used to be able to shoot
  200. 7:27that many videos in one sitting I don't
  201. 7:29I don't don't these days I'm tired but I
  202. 7:31can do twoo and I'm going to if we've
  203. 7:34flexed all of these resources in order
  204. 7:36to be able to get here so what are the
  205. 7:38things that you can do the like tasks
  206. 7:41that you can do in a Time batch and
  207. 7:43block out that moment on the calendar
  208. 7:45another way to think of this is meetings
  209. 7:47I usually do my team sync up and then I
  210. 7:50will do a leadership training with them
  211. 7:52and maybe even some one-on ones if any
  212. 7:54of those are circulating on the calendar
  213. 7:56it's time for that we try to batch them
  214. 7:59maybe not back to back to back to back
  215. 8:00to back but certainly during the same
  216. 8:02half day or full day whenever I do
  217. 8:04podcast interviews same thing I'm going
  218. 8:06to set up my microphone I'm going to set
  219. 8:07up my devices I'm going to do all the
  220. 8:09stuff put the lights on again so I want
  221. 8:11to do multiple podcast interviews in one
  222. 8:14setting the more you block the more
  223. 8:17efficient that you are but also the more
  224. 8:20you see where some stuff's just not
  225. 8:22going to fit in it doesn't make the cut
  226. 8:24and you're able to prioritize more and
  227. 8:26notice where you have said yes to things
  228. 8:28that should not exist your don't workk
  229. 8:29for calendar blocking is go back to that
  230. 8:31time audit and look to all the things
  231. 8:34that were similar that stretched out
  232. 8:36over the week maybe you went to go get
  233. 8:39the dry cleaning on Monday and you also
  234. 8:41did grocery shopping but you didn't do
  235. 8:43that until Wednesday could you have run
  236. 8:45those errands in the same trip so you're
  237. 8:48not having to do all of these things
  238. 8:50across the week taking that commute time
  239. 8:52to a multiplicative that is unnecessary
  240. 8:55we don't have to drive here and there
  241. 8:56and everywhere if we're already out and
  242. 8:58about that might might be something
  243. 8:59that's already occurred to you before
  244. 9:01but if you can find other things on your
  245. 9:03calendar that you've audited and you say
  246. 9:05wow like I could have done both of those
  247. 9:08in the same time block and instead it
  248. 9:10took more time because it was spread out
  249. 9:12over the week that's where the
  250. 9:14opportunity lies the really great 30 40
  251. 9:1850 minutes that is wasted across the
  252. 9:21week because of how it got done
  253. 9:24flippantly rather than trying to package
  254. 9:26it together in a Time block find those
  255. 9:28like tasks look at them as a batch and
  256. 9:31then block them together all of this
  257. 9:33gets even easier with the decision
  258. 9:35framework the biggest challenge people
  259. 9:37have in their time management every day
  260. 9:38is they just allow themselves to be
  261. 9:41professional decision makers but here's
  262. 9:43the crazy thing you're not getting
  263. 9:46better at it here's what I mean instead
  264. 9:49of making a decision and sticking to it
  265. 9:51you just trust that when the next day
  266. 9:53rolls around you're going to be able to
  267. 9:56make the decision in the moment and you
  268. 9:57just trust it you're like oh I'll just
  269. 9:59make that decision later then the moment
  270. 10:02comes you wake up in the morning hm am I
  271. 10:04going to do my morning routine first
  272. 10:05decision of the day probably not going
  273. 10:08to go well if you haven't been set up
  274. 10:09for Success then comes time for the gym
  275. 10:11hm am I going to go to the gym you see
  276. 10:13how it's going when you plan to just let
  277. 10:15yourself make rolling decisions about
  278. 10:18the same things day after day after day
  279. 10:22you get decision fatigue you've probably
  280. 10:24heard the famous example of Steve Jobs
  281. 10:26and Mark Zuckerberg always wearing the
  282. 10:29same outfit every day the same shirt the
  283. 10:32same pants the uniform that they came to
  284. 10:35be known for this is an example of
  285. 10:38removing an obstacle toward decision
  286. 10:41fatigue they didn't want to have to
  287. 10:43think about what they were going to wear
  288. 10:44they wanted to focus on the bigger
  289. 10:46decisions of the things that they were
  290. 10:48building in their work so they just
  291. 10:50bought the same clothes and wore the
  292. 10:51same thing every day and as silly as
  293. 10:52everyone thought it was it then went on
  294. 10:55to become this documented brilliant
  295. 10:57thing because we're all making too many
  296. 10:59decisions about what doesn't matter and
  297. 11:02taking away from that brain power being
  298. 11:04applied to something insanely beneficial
  299. 11:07to our lives and careers so I want you
  300. 11:09to try this simple three question
  301. 11:11framework next time you've got a tough
  302. 11:13decision ask yourself number one does
  303. 11:15this align with my priorities number two
  304. 11:18would I do this tomorrow and number
  305. 11:20three can this be automated delegated
  306. 11:23delayed or deleted so here's one example
  307. 11:26maybe you're asking yourself the
  308. 11:27question am I going to work out question
  309. 11:28number one is this aligned with your
  310. 11:30priorities well if you have a health
  311. 11:32goal the answer is probably yes here
  312. 11:34question number two would I do this
  313. 11:35tomorrow well if you know it's a
  314. 11:37priority then you probably would do it
  315. 11:38tomorrow if let's say somebody said
  316. 11:40let's go take a walk or you saw that
  317. 11:42there was a fitness class scheduled or
  318. 11:43something like that you know it's a
  319. 11:45priority for you and if given the
  320. 11:46opportunity to fulfill on that goal you
  321. 11:49would do that tomorrow so that's a yes
  322. 11:50and number three can this be automated
  323. 11:52delegated delayed or deleted while the
  324. 11:55act of working out can't be automated or
  325. 11:57delegated but if it certainly can be
  326. 12:00automated in how it's scheduled so that
  327. 12:02you don't have to ask yourself whether
  328. 12:04you'll do it and it can be delegated in
  329. 12:06terms of asking somebody to hold you
  330. 12:08accountable and if it's a priority it
  331. 12:10can't be delayed it could be delayed if
  332. 12:12you want it to be delayed but then would
  333. 12:13it be a priority and it definitely can't
  334. 12:15be deleted so all three of these
  335. 12:16questions really take you on a journey
  336. 12:18with something that make you go yeah
  337. 12:20okay this is a requirement I've made the
  338. 12:22decision I will be working out and now
  339. 12:24it's just a definitive that you can move
  340. 12:26forward with another example might be
  341. 12:28that you get invited to an event maybe
  342. 12:31let's say it's a friend or a family
  343. 12:33member has invited you to something and
  344. 12:35you don't really want to go but let's
  345. 12:37say it's an event in like 3 months first
  346. 12:39question is this on your list of
  347. 12:41priorities sounds like it's probably a
  348. 12:42no so you decide yes or no number two is
  349. 12:46really interesting in this case would I
  350. 12:48do it tomorrow we usually look at events
  351. 12:50that are far away and we go GH I don't
  352. 12:52want to do that but it's in August who
  353. 12:54cares just RSVP yes would you do it
  354. 12:57tomorrow if the answer is no then you
  355. 13:00actually should not be affecting August
  356. 13:03like that August is mad at you for
  357. 13:05wasting its time that's why number two
  358. 13:06is so important the things that we
  359. 13:08schedule for the future that we don't
  360. 13:10want to do we're probably still not
  361. 13:11going to want to do so just be honest
  362. 13:13about it and number three can it be
  363. 13:14automated delegated delayed or deleted
  364. 13:17well it could definitely be deleted so
  365. 13:19that's the first thing that's top of my
  366. 13:21mind it can't be automated my presence
  367. 13:23is required and it can't be delegated
  368. 13:26cuz my presence is required and it can't
  369. 13:28be delayed cuz it's not my event I'm
  370. 13:30already delaying it by seeing it's way
  371. 13:31in the future and definitely not trying
  372. 13:33to speed it up use this framework to
  373. 13:35help guide you so that you don't have to
  374. 13:37make the decision fatigue get it done in
  375. 13:40one setting and know that if it's no
  376. 13:43longer a factor in your life you don't
  377. 13:45have to keep going through this
  378. 13:46framework anymore it's just an instant
  379. 13:48no in the future and when you know what
  380. 13:50your NOS are it's a great place to be it
  381. 13:52makes life so much easier next time you
