  2. 0:01hi and welcome back to football made
  3. 0:04simple the 442 formation is still
  4. 0:07considered the goto for many football
  5. 0:09clubs and Sunday League teams around the
  6. 0:11world named so as it has four Defenders
  7. 0:13four midfielders and two Strikers the
  8. 0:16formation has a lot of Versatility and
  9. 0:18in today's quick video we'll look at the
  10. 0:20ways that these players can be used in
  11. 0:21this formation as well as a couple of
  12. 0:23strengths and weaknesses so let's Dive
  13. 0:25Right
  14. 0:26In we'll first look at the formation in
  15. 0:29possession
  16. 0:30as there is only two of them in this
  17. 0:32formation the center backs tend to be
  18. 0:34less adventurous on the ball unless
  19. 0:36facing teams who apply no pressure where
  20. 0:38we may see a center back look to drive
  21. 0:39up the pitch with the
  22. 0:41ball but the midfielders are more varied
  23. 0:43and here is the biggest potential
  24. 0:45weakness of a
  25. 0:46442 having only two Central midfielders
  26. 0:49where most modern teams use three
  27. 0:50midfielders there's a danger of being
  28. 0:52overloaded there and being more easily
  29. 0:55pressed this is the reason this
  30. 0:57formation is less used amongst High
  31. 0:58possession teams a recent exception we
  32. 1:01saw to this is guardiola's 2020 2021
  33. 1:04Citys side who used a base
  34. 1:06442 but the forwards on paper are
  35. 1:09naturally midfielders so they would
  36. 1:10often drop in to create a four so now
  37. 1:13they had the advantage there most teams
  38. 1:15would instead drop one Center forward if
  39. 1:17they wanted to mitigate against this
  40. 1:18overload in the
  41. 1:20Midfield but generally if a team wishes
  42. 1:22to be more solid in defense we see the
  43. 1:24double pivot act as a platform meaning
  44. 1:26they both sit deeper so any
  45. 1:28counterattacks have an extra life to get
  46. 1:30through whilst the pivots can also
  47. 1:32effectively shift to cover the wide
  48. 1:34regions but more commonly the pair will
  49. 1:36operate in a pendulum manner with one
  50. 1:38midfielder advancing High to join the
  51. 1:40attack entering passes together or even
  52. 1:42have a shot whilst the other holds deep
  53. 1:45in case of a
  54. 1:46Counterattack one of the major attacking
  55. 1:48strengths of the formation is the
  56. 1:50ability to stretch opponents wide due to
  57. 1:52naturally having two men out there this
  58. 1:55can even be exacerbated as forwards can
  59. 1:57make runs into the channel knowing that
  60. 1:59they have a partner who who can still
  61. 2:00occupy the center but if the 442 is set
  62. 2:03up more defensively the fullbacks can
  63. 2:05hold their positioning deeper although
  64. 2:07this is less common in the modern game
  65. 2:10instead if the goal is to increase the
  66. 2:11overload out wide the forwards can
  67. 2:13overlap to draw an opposition fullback
  68. 2:15deeper and make space for their Winger
  69. 2:18or to be a passing
  70. 2:20option but more commonly overlapping
  71. 2:22fullbacks work with inverted wine men
  72. 2:25who knowing they have a man holding the
  73. 2:26width outside can drift in centrally
  74. 2:30this can be to help the Midfield because
  75. 2:31as we discussed it can be overloaded or
  76. 2:34they can help to overload the box with
  77. 2:35the two forwards and try to get on the
  78. 2:37end of crosses from the
  79. 2:38fullback another advantage of the 442 is
  80. 2:41it allows two forwards to be against two
  81. 2:43center backs or this can be viewed as 1
  82. 2:46v1s so individual quality comes more
  83. 2:48into the equation if the center back is
  84. 2:51isolated and the forward is an elite
  85. 2:53dribbler or has a lead Pace it can cause
  86. 2:55the problem or if a Ford is much more
  87. 2:58dominant aerially
  88. 3:00in addition the center backs can be
  89. 3:01drawn into manm marking scenarios and
  90. 3:03with one forward often dropping deep
  91. 3:05this can create gaps in the backline
  92. 3:07that can be
  93. 3:08exploited and defensively the 442 has
  94. 3:11some advantages if a team is hyper
  95. 3:13aggressive in the press it can allow
  96. 3:15them to essentially go manto man with a
  97. 3:16back four whilst the fullbacks push
  98. 3:18higher up backing this
  99. 3:20up however the Ford's use of cff Shadows
  100. 3:22would have to be perfect as again the
  101. 3:24weakness of this formation is being
  102. 3:26outnumbered in the Midfield so if the
  103. 3:28ball did get through this first wave of
  104. 3:30pressure it would spell major danger but
  105. 3:33the 442 is excellent for Mid and lower
  106. 3:35blocks there are two men out wide making
  107. 3:37them hard to overload whilst the team
  108. 3:39can be Compact and minimize the spaces
  109. 3:41between Defenders the biggest difference
  110. 3:44compared to teams using one up top is
  111. 3:46that having two forwards particularly if
  112. 3:48compact can make Central entry into the
  113. 3:50Midfield much more difficult this
  114. 3:53naturally filters the opponent wide
  115. 3:55where stronger press can be
  116. 3:57enacted every formation has typical
  117. 3:59strengths and weaknesses but good
  118. 4:00tacticians can mitigate these through
  119. 4:02micro adaptions but these are the
  120. 4:04strengths and the weaknesses of a 44 te
  121. 4:08great examples of teams used in the 442
  122. 4:10are Simeon atti and Pelin City both
  123. 4:13linked now and down in the comment
  124. 4:15section but what formations do you want
  125. 4:17to explore next comment down
