  2. 0:04inside the pan family's home shattered
  3. 0:07the serenity of their normally quiet
  4. 0:10upscale neighborhood in many ways this
  5. 0:12is an immigrant's tale it's the
  6. 0:14beginning of what detective bill curtis
  7. 0:16describes as 18 minutes of sheer terror
  8. 0:20guys on my channel and today we are

  21. 0:44one of you guys so
  22. 0:46thank you
  23. 0:48definitely love doing stories that my
  24. 0:50followers do suggest but yeah before we
  25. 0:51get on in the video with the story
  26. 0:54one this is gonna be a lengthy video
  27. 0:56we're gonna be covering everything that
  28. 0:57has been going on with the jennifer k
  29. 0:59and don't forget to hit the subscribe
  30. 1:01button as well so yeah let's get on with
  31. 1:03the video jennifer was born in
  32. 1:05barkingham
  33. 1:06ontario with her older brother where
  34. 1:08they were both razor in a middle-class
  35. 1:10household jennifer's parents were born
  36. 1:12in vietnam they go by bic in hand and
  37. 1:15their parenting method was really strict
  38. 1:18they their obligation was that their
  39. 1:21kids had to bring achievement into the
  40. 1:23household and that was the only way
  41. 1:26of living and they felt like that was
  42. 1:28the obligation like my kids have to have
  43. 1:31success and have to secede and that is
  44. 1:33the only proper way of living that is
  45. 1:35exactly how they saw it but that's kind
  46. 1:38of how a lot of asian households are i
  47. 1:40don't know if that still is the
  48. 1:42standard thing but a lot of asian
  49. 1:44households are very strict about you
  50. 1:47know their kids achieving things and
  51. 1:49their kids bringing you know excellent
  52. 1:51grades and
  53. 1:52very hard on
  54. 1:54you know bringing the success to the
  55. 1:56family but that also plays a really big
  56. 1:59part later on in the story of how
  57. 2:02the stress of success and obligation to
  58. 2:05bring achievement later on
  59. 2:08causes a lot of waves jennifer at first
  60. 2:11had successfully achieved that
  61. 2:13through her figure skating she used to
  62. 2:15be a figure skater back when she was 14
  63. 2:1713 years old she was really good at this
  64. 2:19she was basically a pro she was actually
  65. 2:21set
  66. 2:22to go to the winter olympics but sadly
  67. 2:25she couldn't no longer compete because
  68. 2:27she injured her knee which you know that
  69. 2:29is obviously a big muscle and a part of
  70. 2:32your body for figure skating that she
  71. 2:34could no longer compete so now she was
  72. 2:36like
  73. 2:37crap
  74. 2:38like i had everything figured out what
  75. 2:40this figure is getting i'm really
  76. 2:41athletic this was something that was
  77. 2:43making my parents happy with me because
  78. 2:45she was not good at school she was great
  79. 2:48with athletics she was you know she
  80. 2:50would blow people away with her athletic
  81. 2:52ability
  82. 2:53and now she had to
  83. 2:55make her parents happy with her grades
  84. 2:58and the thing is with jennifer she like
  85. 3:01i said she was not good at school she
  86. 3:04knew that this was going to cause some
  87. 3:06problems in her household she was giving
  88. 3:08an average of c minus when her parents
  89. 3:11expected nothing but straight a's all
  90. 3:14across the board with tests report cards
  91. 3:16and everything else included but instead
  92. 3:18of jennifer you know communicating with
  93. 3:20her parents about how much she struggled
  94. 3:22in school this is when jennifer started
  95. 3:24to live a double life jennifer began
  96. 3:27lying about her grades lying about her
  97. 3:30tests
  98. 3:31lying about
  99. 3:32everything so she started to fake her
  100. 3:34grades she started to fake her grades on
  101. 3:37any test that she had in high school she
  102. 3:39also faked her high school diploma faked
  103. 3:41a university acceptance letter saying
  104. 3:44that she was going to study in a field
  105. 3:46of pharmacology and her parents were
  106. 3:48like my daughter is doing amazing first
  107. 3:51she was a figure skater now you know she
  108. 3:54can't do that no more but now she's set
  109. 3:56to have a career in the medical field
  110. 3:58which they thought was happening
  111. 4:01rally jennifer was doing the complete
  112. 4:03opposite of that reality jennifer was a
  113. 4:06high school dropout living with her drug
  114. 4:08dealer boyfriend who they have been
  115. 4:10dating for roughly almost eight years
  116. 4:13together her parents actually later on
  117. 4:15found out in the year of 2010
  118. 4:18and gave jennifer an ultimatum saying
  119. 4:21you're either going to
  120. 4:22come back home live with us go back to
  121. 4:25school
  122. 4:26we're going to be really strict because
  123. 4:27that's how they were she wasn't allowed
  124. 4:28to literally do anything you're gonna be
  125. 4:30really strict on you can't do anything
  126. 4:32but go to school come home go to work
  127. 4:35and that's it
  128. 4:36or you know you could do whatever you
  129. 4:38want but this family will no longer talk
  130. 4:40to you no longer provide you with money
  131. 4:42or anything and you will be disowned by
  132. 4:45us that was the ultimatum either live
  133. 4:47with us
  134. 4:48under the strict environment and you
  135. 4:50could literally can't do anything
  136. 4:52besides school and work or you could do
  137. 4:54whatever you want just like you're doing
  138. 4:56now but we will no longer talk to you or
  139. 4:58financially support you and you're
  140. 5:00disowned from the family forever
  141. 5:02jennifer decided that neither one of
  142. 5:04those options were something that she
  143. 5:06wanted to do so jennifer actually
  144. 5:08created a third option that her parents
  145. 5:11did not know anything about
  146. 5:12jennifer and her boyfriend came with
  147. 5:14this idea of how about instead of
  148. 5:18me being stuck in this house where i
  149. 5:20can't do anything i want where i don't
  150. 5:22have the freedom where i have to go to
  151. 5:23school which i'm not good at and i have
  152. 5:25to work all the time and i can't see my
  153. 5:27boyfriend i can't live my life i can't
  154. 5:28have the freedom how about instead we
  155. 5:30stage a robbery
  156. 5:32gone wrong
  157. 5:34she had her boyfriend create a fake
  158. 5:37mock robbery with three of his friends
  159. 5:40so basically they were given two clear
  160. 5:42instructions they were going to invade
  161. 5:44the house like a robbery and then kill
  162. 5:46her parents of the robbery that was set
  163. 5:49in stone was monday november 8th at 11
  164. 5:51pm was your scheduled time to do so on a
  165. 5:54neighbor's surveillance camera which i
  166. 5:56will insert here
  167. 6:07as you saw in the clip that you could
  168. 6:09see that jennifer was with these three
  169. 6:12men and literally unlocked the door
  170. 6:15and showed them the way in to her home
  171. 6:18and in those same 18 minutes there was a
  172. 6:20call from the same household jennifer's
  173. 6:22house from jennifer
  174. 6:24crying that her parents were just shot
  175. 6:27or that her house was just robbed but in
  176. 6:29reality we all know that jennifer had a
  177. 6:30part in this robbery of course but she
  178. 6:32was faking it so you know she wouldn't
  179. 6:34get caught and she can go about living
  180. 6:36whatever life she wanted because both
  181. 6:37her parents were dealt with actually
  182. 6:39insert the 911 call from jennifer right
  183. 6:42here for you guys
  184. 6:56her mother was actually shot twice one
  185. 6:58and one in the neck and one in the head
  186. 7:00and she was killed immediately her
  187. 7:02father was also shot twice as while he
  188. 7:04was shot in the face and in the shoulder
  189. 7:06but he actually later on survived and he
  190. 7:08was put into a coma when later on
  191. 7:10transferred to the hospital jennifer was
  192. 7:13also taken to the hospital because right
  193. 7:14now the police think that jennifer is
  194. 7:16just a innocent victim slash witness and
  195. 7:20that she was also
  196. 7:22like
  197. 7:23one of the victims in the robbery that
  198. 7:24she was also hurt so they brought her in
  199. 7:27to just do like a like mental like
  200. 7:30awareness check on her to make sure that
  201. 7:32she was okay but they found that the
  202. 7:34jennifer was completely fine and they
  203. 7:36let her be so jennifer actually stood by
  204. 7:38her father's side for three hours before
  205. 7:40the police brought her in for her very
  206. 7:42first witness statement slash interview
  207. 7:45so right now i'm going to insert the
  208. 7:47clip of the mark and playstations
  209. 7:48interview it's going to be a little
  210. 7:50lengthy because it's the first one and
  211. 7:51you'll see that
  212. 7:53her story gets kind of mixed a little
  213. 7:55bit but she's showing emotions like she
  214. 7:57had nothing to do
  215. 7:58with the robbery slash murder of her
  216. 8:00parents in the house she was in the
  217. 8:03house i had gone down the stairs did you
  218. 8:05hear
  219. 8:07so before this this is when when did you
  220. 8:09hear your mom for the first time in the
  221. 8:10house when she came home so did you
  222. 8:13physically see your mom yes
  223. 8:15and at that time there was no one
  224. 8:18strange in the house no i went she was
  225. 8:20on the downstairs sofa
  226. 8:22she was watching tv when i last saw her
  227. 8:24between that time that you see her and
  228. 8:27you leave her on the sofa
  229. 8:28until you hear the noises the strange
  230. 8:31the voices as you describe them how long
  231. 8:33is that maybe a half hour
  232. 8:35a half an hour where is it your mom was
  233. 8:38before here she goes dancing every
  234. 8:41monday she just goes dancing with a few
  235. 8:44relatives as well what is the first when
  236. 8:46you hear these this can you hear them
  237. 8:48talk there's the unknown voices
  238. 8:52it's a mumble because i had the tv on it
  239. 8:54was just all the mumble when's the first
  240. 8:56time that you actually can hear one of
  241. 8:58them talking
  242. 8:59when he was upstairs
  243. 9:02and i thought he had left the upstairs
  244. 9:04because i was frozen in my room for a
  245. 9:06while
  246. 9:07trying to listen in but i couldn't
  247. 9:09hear over my tv and i didn't want to
  248. 9:12startle
  249. 9:14startle them by turning it off or
  250. 9:16like diminishing the volume so i was
  251. 9:18kind of pressed up against my door for a
  252. 9:20while trying to hear it
  253. 9:22and i thought that all the people
  254. 9:25upstairs had gone down so i opened up my
  255. 9:26door quietly and tried to peer out and
  256. 9:28he saw me and that's when he came the
  257. 9:30only thing i can remember was him was he
  258. 9:32had dreadlocks did you see the gun i
  259. 9:35only saw the top part
  260. 9:36what did it look like
  261. 9:39um
  262. 9:40kind of
  263. 9:41it was black yeah and
  264. 9:44it kind of
  265. 9:46not triangular but it was slightly wider
  266. 9:49they sit me right at the bottom of the
  267. 9:50stairs like um
  268. 9:52slightly out
  269. 9:53not exactly directly at the bottom of
  270. 9:55the stairwell but just slightly over a
  271. 9:57little the third guy who i didn't
  272. 9:59encounter but he was there he was like
  273. 10:01where's your money cooperate with us and
  274. 10:04you and then my mom's like you know
  275. 10:05yelling and don't hurt us and you know
  276. 10:07my money's in my wallet just please
  277. 10:09leave my paperwork
  278. 10:11this person this third guy who you're
  279. 10:12now describing do you see him ever
  280. 10:16only as a shadow
  281. 10:17because he was there's a
  282. 10:20a wall a partial wall and he was like
  283. 10:22right in that vision
  284. 10:25over my father but
  285. 10:27partially in that vision and the next
  286. 10:29thing i can hear are them telling my
  287. 10:31parents to move to the basement
  288. 10:33okay
  289. 10:34and i'm asking them why where are you
  290. 10:36going and my mom's yelling to me
  291. 10:38i want my daughter why can't my daughter
  292. 10:40come too
  293. 10:41i want my daughter who goes down to the
  294. 10:43basement do you can you see that from
  295. 10:45where you're sitting my back is towards
  296. 10:47the wall do you hear anyone else in the
  297. 10:49main level where your parents were
  298. 10:52like you can hear if people are trucking
  299. 10:54down the stairs you hear your parents
  300. 10:55going down the stairs
  301. 10:57do you hear
  302. 10:58like five sets of foot strings
  303. 11:01footsteps going down there or can't you
  304. 11:03hear that
  305. 11:04i was just such a distress i
  306. 11:06i don't exactly know how many people
  307. 11:08went down after the first interview
  308. 11:10jennifer was brought back in for a
  309. 11:12second interview because police were
  310. 11:13like how was she able to call the police
  311. 11:16if she was so called tied up because she
  312. 11:18was tied up which they will show you in
  313. 11:20the clip that i'm gonna insert she was
  314. 11:22tied up so it's like how can you get a
  315. 11:24phone if your arms are tied up and you
  316. 11:27can't move which you know does kind of
  317. 11:29make sense as to what the police are
  318. 11:30saying because it's like literally not
  319. 11:32really possible so in this next clip
  320. 11:34that you are going to see you are going
  321. 11:35to see
  322. 11:36the second interview where they actually
  323. 11:39have her stand up and demonstrate how
  324. 11:41did was she even able to call the police
  325. 11:43in the first place stand up and turn
  326. 11:45around
  327. 11:47put this in the side that you believe it
  328. 11:48was in
  329. 11:49great turn around so that only you're
  330. 11:52looking away from me you're looking
  331. 11:54exactly like now here is where the
  332. 11:56banister is put your hands back behind
  333. 11:58your back is exactly how you remember
  334. 12:00they work okay
  335. 12:01now and the are you restrained from
  336. 12:03movement how far can you move your hands
  337. 12:05from the banister he tied my upper arm
  338. 12:07yes around the banister yes
  339. 12:10but my hands are bound together so your
  340. 12:12hands bound together and this is the arm
  341. 12:14that's the strings wrapped around
  342. 12:15against the banister
  343. 12:17okay so now how can you get to the phone
  344. 12:19and how do you make the phone call
  345. 12:259-1-1
  346. 12:27and do you talk down like that yes i'm
  347. 12:29yelling at the phone like this and how
  348. 12:31can you hear
  349. 12:33i turned the volume on max yes
  350. 12:37so that's exactly the way that you're
  351. 12:39talking to her against the railing
  352. 12:42vic's funeral was held november 15 2010
  353. 12:45this is her mother's funeral and the
  354. 12:47police were actually secretly watching
  355. 12:50jennifer to see how she would react if
  356. 12:53she had any emotions basically just how
  357. 12:55she was acting that day see her emotions
  358. 12:58because they were slowly catching on to
  359. 13:00the fact that maybe jennifer did have
  360. 13:02something to do with this robbery gone
  361. 13:05wrong they noticed that during the
  362. 13:07funeral jennifer wasn't showing really
  363. 13:09any emotions she was kind of just there
  364. 13:12she wasn't really she was just acting
  365. 13:15like
  366. 13:16she didn't have any emotions but
  367. 13:19they also kept in mind that you know
  368. 13:20everybody grieves differently so that's
  369. 13:22kind of playing a factor in this
  370. 13:24everybody grieves differently so there's
  371. 13:25definitely affected to that that maybe
  372. 13:27jennifer was just grieving differently
  373. 13:29even though we all know she obviously
  374. 13:30had a part in it but right now the
  375. 13:31police do not know for sure if jennifer
  376. 13:34had a part in killing her mother and
  377. 13:36injuring her father but after the
  378. 13:38funeral the police decided to keep
  379. 13:40jennifer on a surveillance at all times
  380. 13:43to see if they can get more information
  381. 13:45on her the place laid on notice that her
  382. 13:48story was not adding up because if it
  383. 13:50was a so-called robbery so when um they
  384. 13:54kind of went over the map of the house
  385. 13:57and everything that was in plain sight
  386. 14:00two cars they had cars there that were
  387. 14:02expensive cars in a robber you would
  388. 14:05think that
  389. 14:06um the robbery like the robbers would
  390. 14:08take the car and none of their
  391. 14:10technology was touched none of the
  392. 14:12jewelry was touched none of the hidden
  393. 14:14money there's still hidden money in the
  394. 14:15house
  395. 14:16nothing was touched jennifer was not
  396. 14:18touched at all
  397. 14:19and in a robbery their plan was to
  398. 14:22murder everybody so there's no witnesses
  399. 14:24but if it was that in that case then how
  400. 14:27come
  401. 14:28jennifer made it out alive and untouched
  402. 14:31also the police noticed that
  403. 14:34the robbers didn't have any kind of tool
  404. 14:36to get inside that house so it was kind
  405. 14:39of like they were expecting that door to
  406. 14:42be wide open which we saw earlier in the
  407. 14:43surveillance clip that i showed you guys
  408. 14:45that jennifer opened the door for the
  409. 14:48robbers
  410. 14:49but the police still don't know this yet
  411. 14:51but they're slowly adding the puzzle
  412. 14:53together to figure out what exactly
  413. 14:55happened that night three days later
  414. 14:56when the place started slowly puzzling
  415. 14:59the evidence together her father
  416. 15:02hand actually woke up from his coma of
  417. 15:04course he was severely injured he had a
  418. 15:06lot of you know fractures in his face
  419. 15:08because of the bullets and everything
  420. 15:10but surprisingly enough he remembered
  421. 15:12everything that happened that night he
  422. 15:15told the police while the men were in
  423. 15:17the house
  424. 15:18jennifer was not tied up and jennifer
  425. 15:20was actually talking to the men like
  426. 15:22they were best friends all along
  427. 15:24jennifer was not tied up at all and
  428. 15:26jennifer was actually walking around the
  429. 15:28house with them just roaming around the
  430. 15:30entire house and of course this is the
  431. 15:33complete opposite of what jennifer has
  432. 15:35been telling the police police brought
  433. 15:36her in for a third and final interview
  434. 15:39this interview actually lasted nine
  435. 15:41hours they started you know pointing the
  436. 15:43finger at jennifer being like you did
  437. 15:45this this is all you you did this for
  438. 15:47sure pointing the finger at her and
  439. 15:49blaming her and being like you did this
  440. 15:51is all your fault to see how she would
  441. 15:53react they didn't know for sure yet
  442. 15:55still
  443. 15:56if it was her but they thought maybe if
  444. 15:59we act like we know that she did
  445. 16:01something she's gonna react and tell us
  446. 16:03the full-on truth of what really
  447. 16:05happened after the nine hours jennifer
  448. 16:07actually ended up cracking and telling
  449. 16:10police only like a half truth and
  450. 16:12another made-up story she told the
  451. 16:14police that she was depressed and she
  452. 16:16was locked up in the house like it was
  453. 16:19house arrest because she was living a
  454. 16:20very strict household but that part is
  455. 16:22true
  456. 16:23but she was saying that she hired
  457. 16:26somebody to kill her not her parents and
  458. 16:29that the men got the information wrong
  459. 16:31and confused and that they accidentally
  460. 16:34killed her parents and not her after
  461. 16:36jennifer confesses that the police ended
  462. 16:38up arresting jennifer right on the spot
  463. 16:40and actually the police found old phone
  464. 16:42records of hours-long conversations from
  465. 16:45the day of the robbery slash murder that
  466. 16:48jennifer was talking to the men this
  467. 16:50entire time planning out exactly what
  468. 16:52they were going to do in jennifer's
  469. 16:54family's house ended up arresting
  470. 16:56everyone including the boyfriend the
  471. 16:58three men involved and jennifer and
  472. 17:00actually a trial started to begin the
  473. 17:02trial actually lasted 10 months long
  474. 17:05more than 50 witnesses up there
  475. 17:08testifying against jennifer jennifer
  476. 17:10ended up being on the stand in the jury
  477. 17:12for seven days long jennifer actually
  478. 17:15and the rest of the people involved all
  479. 17:18ended up getting a life sentence with a
  480. 17:20small possibility of parole in 25 years
  481. 17:24that doesn't mean that they're gonna for
  482. 17:25sure get parole but they can request it
  483. 17:28and stand in front of the judge and see
  484. 17:30if they'll get it but it's not a hundred
  485. 17:32percent for sure going to happen so
  486. 17:35right now this very moment they are
  487. 17:36still in jail nothing they have not been
  488. 17:38out but this i feel like this case was a
  489. 17:40very not talked about case at all you
  490. 17:42kind of really have to do some digging
  491. 17:44to know more about this jennifer case
  492. 17:45but it kind of shows that um
  493. 17:48a lot can happen under a strict family
  494. 17:51it does not excuse the behavior of
  495. 17:53jennifer
  496. 17:54in the um court they actually try to
  497. 17:56argue the fact that jennifer was abused
  498. 17:59being in a strict environment that she
  499. 18:01eventually cracked and could no longer
  500. 18:04take no more and that is why she set up
  501. 18:06the murder of her parents even though
  502. 18:07her dad did survive like we did talk
  503. 18:09about but that is all we have for
  504. 18:11jennifer solution that's what we're
  505. 18:12going to call this video jennifer's
  506. 18:13lucian slash case
