The Spirit of Delay Has a Filing System — Here's How to Empty It — Transcript

- 0:00Your breakthrough is not lost. It is
- 0:02being held. Filed under an accusation
- 0:05you never answered. There is a way to
- 0:08walk into that office and pull your file
- 0:10yourself. I want you to hear me
- 0:12carefully because I am not speaking
- 0:15about some literal office in the unseen
- 0:17world. Nor am I teaching you to fear a
- 0:20mysterious demon with a cabinet full of
- 0:22papers. I am giving you a picture of a
- 0:25spiritual reality. Scripture makes plain
- 0:28accusation, seeks to keep the believer
- 0:30conscious of guilt, conscious of
- 0:33failure,
- 0:34conscious of unworthiness
- 0:37until he forgets what the blood of Jesus
- 0:39has already declared concerning him. I
- 0:41am a W Kenyon and I have watched
- 0:46believers pray for years about things
- 0:48that Christ has already made theirs.
- 0:50They plead where they should believe.
- 0:53They wait where they should stand. They
- 0:55asked God to do again what he
- 0:56accomplished in the death, burial,
- 1:00resurrection,
- 1:02and enthronement of Jesus Christ. The
- 1:05tragedy is not that God has forgotten
- 1:07his children. The tragedy is that his
- 1:10children often do not know the terms of
- 1:12the covenant. Revelation 12 calls Satan
- 1:15the accuser of the brethren. Accusation
- 1:17is one of his oldest weapons. If he
- 1:20cannot separate you from Christ, he will
- 1:23attempt to separate you from the
- 1:25consciousness of what you are in Christ.
- 1:27If he cannot change your legal standing
- 1:30before God, he will attack your
- 1:32confidence in that standing. And a
- 1:35believer who does not know his standing
- 1:36can live like a prisoner while
- 1:38possessing the rights of a son. If you
- 1:40receive this today, write this
- 1:43declaration below. The blood has
- 1:45answered. Do not write it as
- 1:47superstition. Write it as your
- 1:50confession of faith. The blood has
- 1:51answered. Now listen closely. The first
- 1:55thing you must understand is that delay
- 1:57is not always denial. And difficulty is
- 2:00not automatically evidence that some
- 2:02evil spirit has successfully blocked
- 2:04God. We must be scriptural here.
- 2:07Sometimes God develops patience in us.
- 2:10Sometimes circumstances involve other
- 2:12people and their decisions. Sometimes
- 2:15wisdom requires preparation.
- 2:18Sometimes we ourselves have made poor
- 2:20choices whose consequences require time
- 2:22to correct and sometimes we simply do
- 2:25not know why an answer seems delayed.
- 2:28Faith does not require us to invent
- 2:30explanations where scripture has given
- 2:32none. But there is another kind of delay
- 2:34that occurs in the believer's
- 2:36experience.
- 2:37It happens when condemnation,
- 2:40fear,
- 2:42inurance
- 2:43and unbelief keep a man from taking hold
- 2:46of what belongs to him in Christ. That
- 2:49is the filing system I am talking about.
- 2:52The enemy takes an accusation and
- 2:54attempts to file your confidence
- 2:55underneath it. You failed yesterday. You
- 2:59sinned too badly. You have not prayed
- 3:02enough. You are not spiritual enough.
- 3:05Your family has always struggled.
- 3:07You waited too long, God helps other
- 3:10people. But perhaps he will not help
- 3:13you. And if you accept those accusations
- 3:15as the final verdict, you begin
- 3:18approaching the father as though you
- 3:19were standing outside the covenant
- 3:21begging to be admitted. That is where
- 3:23religion has robbed multitudes.
- 3:26Religion has taught men to knock at a
- 3:28door that Christ has already opened.
- 3:30Religion has taught sons to speak like
- 3:33strangers. Religion has taught heirs to
- 3:36beg like servants. But Hebrews 10:19
- 3:39tells us that we have boldness to enter
- 3:41the holiest by the blood of Jesus.
- 3:43Notice the language, boldness, not
- 3:47terror, not uncertainty,
- 3:50not crawling, boldness.
- 3:53And the basis of that boldness is not
- 3:55your perfect behavior. It is the blood
- 3:58of Jesus. Your conduct matters. Sin
- 4:02matters. Obedience matters. Fellowship
- 4:06with the Father matters. But none of
- 4:08these things can become a substitute for
- 4:10the finished work of Christ. If your
- 4:12confidence before God rests upon how
- 4:14perfectly you performed yesterday, you
- 4:17will never possess stable faith. One day
- 4:20you will feel worthy. The next day you
- 4:23will feel condemned. One morning you
- 4:25will pray confidently because you
- 4:27behaved well. That evening you will hide
- 4:30from God because you failed. You have
- 4:33made your own performance the mediator
- 4:35between yourself and the father. But
- 4:37there is one mediator.
- 4:40His name is Jesus Christ. First John 2:1
- 4:44says that if anyone sins, we have an
- 4:47advocate with the father, Jesus Christ
- 4:50the righteous. Do you see the courtroom
- 4:52language? An advocate, an accusation,
- 4:57a righteous standing, a finished
- 4:59sacrifice.
- 5:01This is why the believer must know his
- 5:03legal position in Christ. The enemy's
- 5:06accusation says, "Look at what you did."
- 5:10The gospel says, "Look at what Christ
- 5:13did." The accusation says, "You have no
- 5:17right to come." The blood says, "Come
- 5:21boldly." The accusation says, "Your past
- 5:25defines your standing." The new creation
- 5:28says, "If any man is in Christ, he is a
- 5:33new creature." The accusation keeps
- 5:35presenting evidence from the old life.
- 5:38God keeps pointing you to the sun, and
- 5:41you must decide which testimony governs
- 5:43your consciousness.
- 5:45There are believers listening to me who
- 5:47have spent years answering accusations
- 5:49with emotions. That will never work. You
- 5:53feel condemned.
- 5:54So you attempt to feel righteous. You
- 5:57feel afraid.
- 5:59So you attempt to feel courageous.
- 6:02You feel unworthy.
- 6:04So you try to manufacture a sense of
- 6:06worthiness.
- 6:08No, faith is not built upon feelings.
- 6:12Faith is built upon the integrity of the
- 6:14word. When God says in 2 Corinthians
- 6:175:21 that Christ was made sin for us so
- 6:20that we might become the righteousness
- 6:22of God in him, he has revealed the basis
- 6:25of our standing. Righteousness is not a
- 6:27spiritual mood. Righteousness is the
- 6:30ability to stand in the father's
- 6:31presence without the sense of guilt,
- 6:34condemnation
- 6:36or inferiority because of what Christ
- 6:38has accomplished. My dear brother, my
- 6:42dear sister, this changes everything.
- 6:46You may have failed. Come home. You may
- 6:49have wandered. Come home. You may have
- 6:53allowed fear to dominate your thinking
- 6:54for months or even years. Come home. The
- 6:58father is not asking you to manufacture
- 7:00another cross. He is asking you to
- 7:02believe in the one cross that already
- 7:04stood on Calvary. You do not have to
- 7:07persuade Jesus to become victorious.
- 7:10He is victorious. You do not have to
- 7:12persuade the father to accept the
- 7:14sacrifice. He accepted it. You do not
- 7:18have to persuade the resurrection to
- 7:19happen again. Christ has been raised.
- 7:23And according to Ephesians 2, you have
- 7:26been made alive together with him.
- 7:29Raised together with him and seated
- 7:32together with him in the heavenly places
- 7:34in Christ Jesus. Look at the language of
- 7:36identification
- 7:38with him. With him with him.
- 7:43Christianity is not merely Christ doing
- 7:45something near you. It is God placing
- 7:48you in Christ. His death becomes the
- 7:51answer to your old nature. His
- 7:53resurrection becomes the basis of your
- 7:55new life. His righteousness becomes your
- 7:58standing. His name becomes your
- 8:00authority. His victory becomes the
- 8:03ground upon which faith stands. This is
- 8:06why I have often emphasized a truth that
- 8:08the church must recover. We have prayed
- 8:10for what we already possess. We have
- 8:13prayed, "Lord,
- 8:16give me access." He says, "You have
- 8:20access." We have prayed, "Lord,
- 8:24make me acceptable." He points us to the
- 8:27beloved. We have prayed
- 8:30Lord give me authority over darkness.
- 8:34Jesus says in Luke 10 that authority has
- 8:37been given over the power of the enemy.
- 8:40We have prayed
- 8:42Lord help me come boldly. Hebrews says
- 8:47come boldly. There comes a moment when
- 8:50prayer must cease being an attempt to
- 8:52persuade God and become fellowship with
- 8:54God concerning what he has already
- 8:56accomplished. That is mature faith. But
- 9:00here is where many believers make a
- 9:02terrible mistake. They hear teaching
- 9:04about confession and begin treating
- 9:06words like magic. That is not faith. You
- 9:10cannot manipulate God by repeating
- 9:12sentences.
- 9:14You cannot force reality to obey your
- 9:16vocabulary merely because you spoke
- 9:17loudly. Biblical confession means
- 9:19agreeing with God. The Greek idea behind
- 9:22confession carries the sense of saying
- 9:24the same thing. God says something. I
- 9:28discover it. I believe it. I identify
- 9:32myself with it. Then I say what God has
- 9:34said. My confession does not make God's
- 9:37word true. God's word makes my
- 9:40confession true. That distinction is
- 9:43enormous. You are not creating your
- 9:45redemption by speaking. You are
- 9:48confessing the redemption Christ
- 9:49created. You are not creating
- 9:52righteousness. You are acknowledging the
- 9:54righteousness God gave you in Christ.
- 9:57You are not defeating Jesus enemies
- 9:59again. You are standing upon Christ's
- 10:02victory over them. That is why
- 10:04confession is powerful. Confession
- 10:07builds the road over which faith carries
- 10:08its mighty cargo. But the road is built
- 10:11from the word. Not imagination,
- 10:15not greed, not spiritual fantasy. The
- 10:19word. Suppose an accusation comes
- 10:22against you tonight. You are not worthy.
- 10:26What do you answer? Do not answer.
- 10:30Yes, I am worthy because I have been a
- 10:33good Christian. That is a weak answer.
- 10:36Tomorrow you may stumble and your entire
- 10:39argument collapses. Answer instead.
- 10:43My confidence is not in my performance.
- 10:46My confidence is in Christ. I have been
- 10:49made the righteousness of God in him.
- 10:52Suppose the accusation says
- 10:55God will not hear you. You answer with
- 10:58one John 5:14.
- 11:01This is the confidence we have toward
- 11:02him that if we ask anything according to
- 11:05his will. He hears us. Suppose
- 11:08condemnation says you cannot approach
- 11:11the father. You answer Hebrews 4:16.
- 11:15I come boldly to the throne of grace to
- 11:18obtain mercy and find grace to help in
- 11:20time of need. Suppose your past says you
- 11:24will always be what you were. You answer
- 11:272 Corinthians 5:17. If anyone is in
- 11:30Christ, he is a new creation. Old things
- 11:34have passed away. Behold,
- 11:37new things have come. Do you understand
- 11:39what you are doing? You are answering
- 11:41the file. You are refusing to let
- 11:43accusation have the final word. You are
- 11:46placing God's testimony above Satan's
- 11:49testimony,
- 11:50above your feelings,
- 11:53above your past, and even above the
- 11:56accusations of your own conscience. But
- 11:58listen carefully. There are times when
- 12:01your conscience is not falsely accusing
- 12:03you. There are times when you actually
- 12:06need to repent. Faith never eliminates
- 12:09repentance.
- 12:10Righteousness, consciousness is not
- 12:13permission to live carelessly. First
- 12:16John 1:9 says that if we confess our
- 12:18sins, he is faithful and just to forgive
- 12:22us and cleanse us from all
- 12:23unrighteousness.
- 12:25Notice what the mature believer does. He
- 12:28does not deny sin. He does not excuse
- 12:31sin. He does not rename sin. He does not
- 12:35spend six months condemning himself for
- 12:37sin. He confesses it. He receives
- 12:41cleansing. He restores fellowship. Then
- 12:45he rise. Some of you have confessed the
- 12:47same forgiven failure 500 times. Why?
- 12:51Because you think your sorrow is more
- 12:53powerful than his blood. You would never
- 12:56say that consciously, but your behavior
- 12:59says it. You confessed it Monday. You
- 13:02wept Tuesday. You confessed it
- 13:05Wednesday. You punished yourself
- 13:07Thursday.
- 13:08You refused joy. Friday you told God
- 13:12again. Saturday that you were unworthy.
- 13:14Then on Sunday you sang about the blood
- 13:16that washes whiter than snow. Do you see
- 13:19the contradiction? Either the blood
- 13:21cleanses or it does not. Either Jesus is
- 13:25advocate or he is not. Either God is
- 13:29faithful and just to forgive or he is
- 13:32not. At some point faith must accept the
- 13:36verdict. And here I become stern because
- 13:38I love the church too deeply to flatter
- 13:40her ignorance. Stop making unbelief
- 13:43sound humble. I am nothing. I have
- 13:47nothing. I can do nothing. God could
- 13:50never use me. That may sound pious.
- 13:54But if God has said something different
- 13:56concerning the man in Christ, your
- 13:59humility has become disagreement with
- 14:01God. True humility does not speak poorly
- 14:03of what God has created. True humility
- 14:06agrees with God. Paul could say, "By the
- 14:10grace of God, I am what I am." There is
- 14:13humility. He knew the source. He knew
- 14:17the grace. He knew that everything he
- 14:19possessed came from God. But he did not
- 14:22deny what grace had produced. There is a
- 14:25false humility that continually looks at
- 14:27itself. There is a gospel humility that
- 14:30continually looks at Christ. One says,
- 14:34"Look how weak I am." The other says,
- 14:38"His strength is made perfect in
- 14:40weakness." One says, "Look how badly I
- 14:44failed." The other says, "Where I
- 14:48failed, I repent,
- 14:51receive cleansing,
- 14:53learn obedience,
- 14:55and return to fellowship." One says, "I
- 14:59have no right." The other says, "I have
- 15:03no right in myself, but I have covenant
- 15:06rights in Christ." That is the language
- 15:09of redemption. Now, we come to something
- 15:12deeper. Why does accusation create the
- 15:15experience of delay? Because accusation
- 15:18attacks confidence. And Hebrews 103:5
- 15:21says, "Cast not away, therefore, your
- 15:24confidence, which hath great recompense
- 15:27of reward. Notice that you can cast away
- 15:32confidence.
- 15:33God does not have to take it away. The
- 15:36devil does not have to steal your
- 15:37salvation. He merely needs to persuade
- 15:40you to throw away your confidence. Then
- 15:43you hesitate. You withdraw.
- 15:46You pray uncertainly.
- 15:48You stop expecting. You begin
- 15:50interpreting every circumstance as
- 15:52evidence against the promise. You ask
- 15:54today and cancel your confidence
- 15:56tomorrow. You speak faith Sunday and
- 15:59speak fear Monday. You confess God's
- 16:02faithfulness in church and rehearse
- 16:04impossibility all week. James describes
- 16:07the double-minded man is unstable. This
- 16:10is not because God is reluctant. It is
- 16:13because faith cannot rest while the mind
- 16:15continually changes its verdict. That is
- 16:18why Romans 12 speaks about the renewing
- 16:20of the mind. Your spirit may have
- 16:22received eternal life, but your mind
- 16:25must learn to think in harmony with
- 16:27redemption. The old mind asks, "What do
- 16:31I see?" The renewed mind asks, "What has
- 16:34God said?" The old mind asks, "How do I
- 16:38feel?" The renewed mind asks, "What is
- 16:41written?" The old mind measures God by
- 16:44circumstances.
- 16:46The renewed mind measures circumstances
- 16:48by the character of God. This does not
- 16:51mean pretending circumstances do not
- 16:53exist. Abraham knew exactly how old his
- 16:56body was. Romans 4 does not portray him
- 16:58as ignorant of natural facts. It says he
- 17:02refused to allow those facts to
- 17:04overthrow the promise of God. Faith does
- 17:07not deny facts. Faith denies facts the
- 17:10right to become God. That distinction
- 17:13will deliver you from foolishness on one
- 17:15side and unbelief on the other. You can
- 17:18say this situation is difficult. Then
- 17:22add but difficulty does not change God's
- 17:25faithfulness.
- 17:27You can say
- 17:29I do not yet see the answer. Then add
- 17:33but what I see does not determine
- 17:34whether God's word is true. You can say
- 17:39I do not understand the delay. Then add
- 17:43but I will not fill the silence with
- 17:45condemnation.
- 17:46That last statement is for someone
- 17:48listening to me right now. You have
- 17:50filled God's silence with accusations.
- 17:54Because the answer did not come when you
- 17:55expected. You concluded God was
- 17:58displeased
- 18:00because the door did not open. You
- 18:03concluded you were rejected because
- 18:05healing did not manifest according to
- 18:07your timetable.
- 18:09You concluded that your faith was
- 18:11worthless because finances remained
- 18:14difficult. You concluded that God had
- 18:16abandoned you because the relationship
- 18:19did not change. You concluded your
- 18:22prayers had failed. Beloved,
- 18:25do not manufacture a verdict from a
- 18:27circumstance.
- 18:29You may not know why something has taken
- 18:31time. Neither do I. And faith does not
- 18:35require pretending to know. Faith rests
- 18:38in what is known. God is faithful.
- 18:41Christ has finished his redemptive work.
- 18:44You belong to him. You have access to
- 18:47the father. The holy spirit dwells in
- 18:50you. The word is yours. The name of
- 18:53Jesus belongs to the church. And nothing
- 18:56about today's circumstances can rewrite
- 18:59yesterday's cross. This is where rest
- 19:02begins. Not passivity.
- 19:05Rest. There is a difference. Passivity
- 19:09says whatever happens
- 19:12happens.
- 19:14Faith says I have settled God's
- 19:16integrity in my heart and therefore I
- 19:19will obey him without panic. Passivity
- 19:22does nothing because it has no
- 19:24conviction. Faith acts from conviction
- 19:27without anxiety. Jesus slept in the boat
- 19:30during the storm. That was not pacivity.
- 19:33That was dominion expressed through
- 19:35rest. Then when action was required, he
- 19:39arose and spoke. Some believers reverse
- 19:42the order. They panic first and speak
- 19:45later. They spend 3 days imagining
- 19:48disaster and 3 minutes confessing
- 19:49scripture. Then they wonder why their
- 19:52inner life remains dominated by fear.
- 19:54Feed your spirit on the word. Meditate
- 19:57upon who you are in Christ. Learn the
- 20:00great in him, in whom, and in Christ
- 20:04scriptures. Write them down. Read them.
- 20:08Think upon them. Speak them. Not as
- 20:12incantation
- 20:14as identification.
- 20:16Ephesians says you are blessed with
- 20:18every spiritual blessing in heavenly
- 20:20places in Christ. Romans says there is
- 20:23no condemnation to those who are in
- 20:25Christ Jesus. Corinthians says you are a
- 20:28new creation in Christ. Colossians says
- 20:32you have been delivered from the
- 20:33authority of darkness. and translated
- 20:35into the kingdom of the son of his love.
- 20:38These are not theological ornaments.
- 20:40They are identification facts. Imagine
- 20:44receiving legal documents declaring that
- 20:46an inheritance belong to you, placing
- 20:48them in a drawer, and then spending 20
- 20:51years begging the executive for
- 20:53permission to possess what the documents
- 20:55already assigned to you. You would call
- 20:57that ignorance. Yet spiritually, we have
- 21:00done precisely that. We possess the
- 21:03document. We sing about the document. We
- 21:06frame verses from the document. We
- 21:09debate translations of the document. And
- 21:11then we beg for what the document says
- 21:13belongs to us. Read your covenant. Know
- 21:16your redemption. Know your
- 21:18righteousness. Know your authority. Know
- 21:20your access. Know the indwelling spirit.
- 21:22Know the power of the name. Know what
- 21:23the resurrection means. The church does
- 21:26not primarily need more emotional
- 21:28excitement. She needs revelation
- 21:30knowledge. Hosea said God's people were
- 21:33destroyed for lack of knowledge. Jesus
- 21:36said we would know the truth and the
- 21:38truth would make us free. Truth known.
- 21:42Truth believed, truth acted upon. There
- 21:46is your road out of bondage. Now let me
- 21:49speak tenderly to the person who is
- 21:51tired. Perhaps you have been standing
- 21:53for something for a long time. Perhaps
- 21:55you have heard sermons that made you
- 21:57feel that every unanswered prayer was
- 21:59proof of your failure. I will not add
- 22:01another burden to your shoulders. Faith
- 22:04is not self- torture. God is not
- 22:07standing over you with a measuring
- 22:08instrument, saying
- 22:10harder. Jesus said that faith like a
- 22:13mustard seed could move mountains. Your
- 22:16father knows you. He loves you. He is
- 22:19not confused by your tears. He is not
- 22:22intimidated by your questions. And when
- 22:25you do not understand,
- 22:27you may still come boldly to the throne
- 22:30of grace. Sometimes the boldest
- 22:32confession is simply this. Father, I do
- 22:36not understand this. But I trust your
- 22:38character. There is no shame in that.
- 22:42Faith is not knowing everything. Faith
- 22:45is knowing the one who does. So stop
- 22:48measuring your relationship with God by
- 22:50the speed of an answer. Do not allow
- 22:52delay to rename you. You are not the one
- 22:56God forgot. You are not the one whose
- 22:59prayers never work. You are not the
- 23:01family that can never escape this. Those
- 23:04are identities built from experiences.
- 23:07Your identity must be built from Christ.
- 23:10Now, I want to show you how to empty the
- 23:12filing system. First,
- 23:15identify the accusation.
- 23:18Do not fight fog. Name it. What sentence
- 23:22keeps returning to your mind? God will
- 23:24not help me. I ruined my opportunity. I
- 23:28am being punished. I am not righteous
- 23:31enough. I do not have enough faith. My
- 23:34past has disqualified me. My family
- 23:38history determines my future. Bring the
- 23:41accusation into the light. Then ask a
- 23:44simple question. What does the word say
- 23:46not? What does my fear say? Not. What
- 23:51does tradition say? Not. What did
- 23:54someone tell me 20 years ago? What does
- 23:57the word say? Then distinguish between
- 23:59conviction and condemnation.
- 24:02If the Holy Spirit reveals actual sin,
- 24:05repent. Correct what needs correction.
- 24:09Make restitution where appropriate.
- 24:11Forgive where you need to forgive. Obey
- 24:14what God has shown you. Faith is not
- 24:16rebellion dressed in biblical
- 24:18vocabulary,
- 24:20but after repentance,
- 24:22refuse condemnation.
- 24:24Do not keep paying a debt Christ has
- 24:26forgiven. Then locate yourself in
- 24:29Christ. Sigh, I am in him. That phrase
- 24:34may appear small, but heaven has placed
- 24:37eternity inside it. in him. Not in Adam,
- 24:42not in yesterday,
- 24:44not in your family history, not in your
- 24:47failures. In him, then confess the word.
- 24:52Your mouth has spent enough years
- 24:53agreeing with fear. Give it something
- 24:56better to say. Romans 10 connects the
- 24:59heart and the mouth. Faith believes and
- 25:02faith speaks. Jesus taught that words
- 25:05flowing from believing hearts matter.
- 25:08Therefore, train your confession. When
- 25:11fear says, "You are alone."
- 25:16Say, "He will never leave me nor forsake
- 25:19me." When condemnation says, "Stay
- 25:23away." Say, "I come boldly." When
- 25:28weakness says, "You cannot continue."
- 25:32Say, "His grace is sufficient for me."
- 25:35When accusation says you are still the
- 25:39old man, say I am a new creation in
- 25:43Christ. Again,
- 25:46your words are not magic. They are the
- 25:49voice of agreement. An agreement with
- 25:52God changes the posture of your inner
- 25:54man. Then act. Faith without
- 25:57corresponding action is dead. If you
- 25:59believe God has given you wisdom, use
- 26:02wisdom. If you are believing for work,
- 26:06apply. If you are believing for restored
- 26:10finances,
- 26:11practice stewardship. If you are
- 26:13believing for reconciliation,
- 26:16obey God concerning forgiveness and
- 26:18truth. If you are praying for healing,
- 26:22receive appropriate care without
- 26:23treating medical help as an enemy of
- 26:25faith. Faith is not recklessness.
- 26:28Faith is confidence in God expressed
- 26:30through obedient action. And finally,
- 26:34rest. You have answered the accusation.
- 26:38You have placed the blood against
- 26:40condemnation.
- 26:41You have placed the word against fear.
- 26:43You have placed your identification in
- 26:46Christ against the old identity. Now
- 26:48rest. Do not reopen the file every hour.
- 26:52Some of you close the case in prayer at
- 26:547:00 and appeal against your own victory
- 26:57at 8. At seven, you say, "Father,
- 27:01I trust you." At 8, you say, "But what
- 27:05if nothing happens?" At 9, you say,
- 27:09"Your word is true." At 10, you say,
- 27:13"Maybe God has forgotten me." At 11:00,
- 27:16you ask someone else to pray because
- 27:18perhaps their prayer has more power. At
- 27:20midnight, you reopen every accusation
- 27:22you answered that morning. Stop trying
- 27:25the same case every day. When the
- 27:28accusation returns,
- 27:30point to the verdict. This is the
- 27:32emotional climax of faith. Not shouting
- 27:34louder, but becoming settled. When Jesus
- 27:38sat down, the work was finished. When
- 27:42you take your place in him, you rest in
- 27:45that finished work. He sat down. Hebrews
- 27:49repeatedly emphasizes this. The priests
- 27:52of the old covenant stood continually
- 27:54because their sacrifices could never
- 27:55complete the work. But Christ offered
- 27:58one sacrifice for sins and sat down. He
- 28:02sat down because redemption's foundation
- 28:04was complete. And Ephesians says, "You
- 28:07are seated with him." Do you see it?
- 28:09Christ seated. The believer seated in
- 28:13Christ. Yet much of the church is
- 28:15running through the quarters of religion
- 28:17begging for somebody to finish a work.
- 28:19Jesus sat down after completing. Sit
- 28:22down in your spirit. Rest in the
- 28:24integrity of the word. Stand against the
- 28:27adversary from the position of rest. You
- 28:30are not fighting toward victory. You are
- 28:33enforcing faith from Christ's victory.
- 28:36The blood speaks. Let your mouth agree.
- 28:40The word speaks. Let your heart agree.
- 28:44The resurrection speaks. Let your
- 28:47identity agree. The throne speaks. Let
- 28:51your confidence agree. The new creation
- 28:53speaks. Let your life agree. And when
- 28:57accusation brings yesterday's record,
- 29:00answer with the finished work of Jesus
- 29:02Christ. When it says guilty and you have
- 29:08confessed your sin,
- 29:10answer
- 29:12cleansed. When it says
- 29:15rejected,
- 29:17answer
- 29:18accepted in Christ. When it says
- 29:22powerless,
- 29:24answer the greater one dwells in me.
- 29:28When it says abandoned,
- 29:32answer
- 29:33will never leave me. When it says there
- 29:37is no future,
- 29:39answer
- 29:40my life is hidden with Christ in God.
- 29:43This is not arrogance. It is agreement.
- 29:47This is not boasting in yourself. It is
- 29:49boasting in Christ. This is not
- 29:52pretending you never fail. It is
- 29:55declaring that your failure is not
- 29:56greater than his redemption. I wish I
- 29:59could sit beside some of you and look
- 30:01you directly in the eyes. You have been
- 30:03fighting too long under a name God did
- 30:05not give you. Failure,
- 30:08rejected,
- 30:10unworthy,
- 30:12forgotten,
- 30:13damaged, too late. Those words may
- 30:17describe moments in your experience.
- 30:19They do not describe your standing in
- 30:22Christ. You are his workmanship.
- 30:24You are his child. You have been
- 30:27redeemed. You have been brought near by
- 30:30the blood. You have been given access.
- 30:33You have been made alive with Christ.
- 30:36You have the Holy Spirit dwelling within
- 30:38you. Rise into the consciousness of what
- 30:41grace has made you. Not proudly,
- 30:44gratefully,
- 30:46not arrogantly,
- 30:48humbly, not independently of Christ,
- 30:51entirely dependent upon Christ, but
- 30:54rise. The world has seen enough
- 30:57Christians who sing about victory and
- 30:58live dominated by condemnation. It has
- 31:02seen enough heirs living like beggars.
- 31:04It has seen enough sons speaking like
- 31:07slaves. Let this generation discover
- 31:09what it means to be a new creation. Let
- 31:12us recover the Pauline revelation. Let
- 31:15us recover righteousness consciousness.
- 31:18Let us recover the authority of the
- 31:20name. Let us recover the integrity of
- 31:23the word. Let us recover the reality of
- 31:26our union with Christ. And when we pray,
- 31:30let us pray as sons and daughters who
- 31:32know the father. The prayer of faith is
- 31:34not the begging of an inferior. It is
- 31:36the claiming of the rights of a son. Yet
- 31:39even there, remember, covenant rights
- 31:42never make us masters over God. Faith
- 31:46does not command the father. Faith
- 31:48trusts the father. Authority is
- 31:51exercised under Christ.
- 31:53never independently of him. The mature
- 31:56believer is simultaneously bold and
- 31:58surrendered. Bold because of the blood.
- 32:02Surrendered because Jesus is Lord. Bold
- 32:05concerning God's promises. Surrendered
- 32:08concerning God's wisdom. Bold against
- 32:11condemnation.
- 32:13Surrendered to correction,
- 32:15bold against the enemy, tender before
- 32:18the father. That balance produces strong
- 32:21Christians. So when you wake tomorrow
- 32:24morning, do not begin by checking the
- 32:27filing cabinet of yesterday. Begin with
- 32:30Christ before your failure speaks. Let
- 32:34the word speak before anxiety presents
- 32:37its evidence. Present God's promise
- 32:41before your emotions announce the day's
- 32:43verdict. Remember the eternal verdict
- 32:46established in Jesus. Say, "I am in
- 32:49Christ. I am a new creation. I have been
- 32:53redeemed by his blood. I have access to
- 32:56my father. I refuse condemnation.
- 33:00I receive correction without accepting
- 33:02rejection. I will not call myself what
- 33:05God has not called me. I will not make
- 33:08my circumstances the Lord of my
- 33:10confession. Jesus is Lord. His word has
- 33:14final authority in my life. I will walk
- 33:18in love. I will walk in obedience. I
- 33:21will walk by faith. I will rest in the
- 33:24finished work of Christ. And when the
- 33:26accusation returns and it may return, do
- 33:29not be frightened by its return. A
- 33:31repeated accusation is not a reversed
- 33:33verdict. Hear that again. A repeated
- 33:37accusation is not a reversed verdict.
- 33:40The enemy may knock on the same door.
- 33:42You do not have to reopen the case.
- 33:45Answer with the word. Answer with the
- 33:48blood. Answer with the name. Answer from
- 33:51your position in Christ. Then continue
- 33:54walking. Your confession is the mother
- 33:56of your faith. It is the soil in which
- 33:59your faith grows. So cultivate that soil
- 34:03carefully. Do not plant the word in the
- 34:06morning and dig it up with fear at
- 34:07night. Do not confess Christ's
- 34:09sufficiency and then spend the afternoon
- 34:12confessing your own hopelessness. Guard
- 34:14your heart. Renew your mind. Watch your
- 34:18words. Stay in fellowship. Walk in love.
- 34:23Forgive quickly. Repent quickly. Believe
- 34:27boldly. Rest deeply. And remember this
- 34:31above everything I have told you. Your
- 34:33breakthrough is not purchased by perfect
- 34:35believing. Jesus purchased your
- 34:37redemption. Your faith receives. It does
- 34:41not pay. Your confession agrees. It does
- 34:44not earn. Your obedience follows grace.
- 34:47It does not replace grace. Your
- 34:50authority comes from union with Christ.
- 34:52It does not originate in yourself.
- 34:55Everything begins in him. Everything
- 34:58stands in him. Everything finds its
- 35:00meaning in him. So empty the file. Not
- 35:04by pretending the past never happened.
- 35:06Not by denying reality. Not by blaming
- 35:10every difficulty on a demon. Empty it by
- 35:13refusing to allow any accusation to
- 35:15outrank the testimony of Jesus Christ.
- 35:18The blood has answered. The cross has
- 35:21answered. The empty tomb has answered.
- 35:25The seated Christ has answered. The word
- 35:28has answered. Now let your heart answer.
- 35:32Let your mouth answer. Let your life
- 35:35answer. And when fear asks you, "What if
- 35:39God has forgotten you?" answer. He has
- 35:41not forgotten me. When condemnation
- 35:44asks, who do you think you are? Answer,
- 35:48I am who God says I am in Christ. When
- 35:51the past asks, what gives you the right
- 35:54to rise again? Answer, the blood of
- 35:56Jesus. And when delay whispers,
- 36:01nothing is happening. Answer, without
- 36:04panic, I will not interpret God's
- 36:06faithfulness through today's
- 36:07circumstances.
- 36:09I will stand upon his word, obey his
- 36:12wisdom and trust his timing. That is not
- 36:16denial. That is faith. That is sunship.
- 36:21That is rest. And that is where I leave
- 36:23you today. Not standing outside the
- 36:25father's house begging to enter. But
- 36:28conscious that through Christ you have
- 36:30been brought near. Walk in that
- 36:32consciousness.
- 36:34Pray from that consciousness.
- 36:36Speak from that consciousness.
- 36:39Face tomorrow from that consciousness.
- 36:42Christ has not merely given you a better
- 36:44religion. He has given you his life. You
- 36:47are in him. And when that truth becomes
- 36:50more real to you than the accusations
- 36:52that have followed you, the filing
- 36:54system loses its power. The file may
- 36:57still bear your old name, but you no
- 37:00longer live there. You are in Christ.
