0:20it is intended for the men and women
0:22whose most pressing need is for money
0:24who wish to get rich first and
0:26philosophize afterward
0:28it is for those who have so far found
0:31neither the time the means nor the
0:34opportunity to go deeply into the study
0:36of metaphysics but who want results and
0:39who are willing to take the conclusions
0:40of science as a basis for Action without
0:43going into all the processes by which
0:45those conclusions were reached
0:48it is expected that the reader will take
0:50the fundamental statements upon Faith
0:52just as he would take statements
0:54concerning the law of electrical action
0:55if they were promulgated by a Marconi or
0:58an Edison and taking the statements upon
1:01faith that he will prove their Truth by
1:03acting upon them without fear or
1:05hesitation
1:06every man or woman who does this will
1:09certainly get rich for the science
1:11herein applied is an exact science and
1:13failure is impossible
1:15for the benefit however of those who
1:18wish to investigate philosophical
1:20theories and so secure a logical basis
1:22for Faith I will hear cite certain
1:25authorities
1:26the monistic theory of the universe the
1:28theory that one is all and that all is
1:30one that one substance manifests itself
1:33as the seeming many elements of the
1:35material world is of Hindu origin and
1:38has been gradually winning its way into
1:40the thought of the western world for 200
1:42years
1:43it is the foundation of all the Oriental
1:45philosophies and of those of Descartes
1:48Spinoza liebnitz schopenhauer Hegel and
1:51Emerson
1:53the reader who would dig to the
1:54philosophical foundations of this is
1:56advised to read Hegel and Emerson for
1:58himself
2:00in writing this book I have sacrificed
2:02all other considerations to plainness
2:04and simplicity of style so that all
2:07might understand
2:08the plan of action laid down herein was
2:11deduced from the conclusions of
2:13philosophy it has been thoroughly tested
2:15and bears the Supreme test of practical
2:17experiment it works
2:20if you wish to know how the conclusions
2:22were arrived at read the writings of the
2:24authors mentioned above and if you wish
2:26to reap the fruits of their philosophies
2:28in actual practice read this book and do
2:31exactly as it tells you to do
2:35chapter 1.
2:37the right to be rich
2:39whatever may be said in Praise of
2:41poverty the fact remains that it is not
2:43possible to live a really complete or
2:45successful life unless one is rich
2:48no man can rise to his greatest possible
2:51height and talent or Soul development
2:53unless he has plenty of money for to
2:55unfold the soul and to develop Talent he
2:58must have many things to use and he
3:00cannot have these things unless he has
3:02money to buy them with
3:04a man develops in mind soul and Body by
3:07making use of things and Society is so
3:10organized that man must have money in
3:12order to become the possessor of things
3:14therefore the basis of all advancement
3:16for man must be the science of getting
3:18rich
3:20the object of all life is development
3:22and everything that lives has an
3:24inalienable right to all the development
3:26it is capable of attaining
3:28man's right to life means his right to
3:31have the free and unrestricted use of
3:33all the things which may be necessary to
3:35his fullest mental spiritual and
3:37physical unfoldment or in other words
3:40his right to be rich
3:42in this book I shall not speak of riches
3:45in a figurative way to be really rich
3:47does not mean to be satisfied or
3:49contented with a little
3:51no man ought to be satisfied with a
3:53little if he is capable of using and
3:55enjoying more
3:57the purpose of nature is the advancement
3:59and unfoldment of life and every man
4:02should have all that can contribute to
4:03the power Elegance Beauty and richness
4:06of life to be content with less is
4:09sinful
4:10the man who owns all he wants for the
4:12living of all the life he is capable of
4:14living is Rich and no man who has not
4:17plenty of money can have all he wants
4:19life has advanced so far and become so
4:23complex that even the most ordinary man
4:25or woman requires a great amount of
4:27wealth in order to live in a manner that
4:29even approaches completeness
4:31every person naturally wants to become
4:34all that they are capable of becoming
4:35this desire to realize innate
4:38possibilities is inherent in human
4:40nature we cannot help wanting to be all
4:42that we can be
4:44success in life is becoming what you
4:46want to be you can become what you want
4:48to be only by making use of things and
4:50you can have the free use of things only
4:52as you become rich enough to buy them
4:55to understand the science of getting
4:57rich is therefore the most essential of
4:59all knowledge
5:00there is nothing wrong in wanting to get
5:03rich
5:04the desire for riches is really the
5:06desire for a richer Fuller and more
5:09Abundant Life and that desire is
5:11praiseworthy
5:12the man who does not desire to live more
5:15abundantly is abnormal and so the man
5:17who does not desire to have money enough
5:19to buy all he wants is abnormal
5:22there are three motives for which we
5:24live we live for the body we live for
5:27the mind we live for the soul
5:30no one of these is better or holier than
5:33the other all are alike desirable and no
5:35one of the three body mind or Soul can
5:38live fully if either of the others is
5:40cut short of full life and expression
5:43it is not right or Noble to live only
5:45for the soul and deny mind or body and
5:48it is wrong to live for the intellect
5:50and deny body or soul
5:52we are all acquainted with the loads and
5:55consequences of living for the body and
5:57denying both mind and soul and we see
5:59that real life means the complete
6:01expression of all that man can give
6:03forth through body mind and soul
6:06whatever he can say no man can be really
6:09happy or satisfied unless his body is
6:12living fully in every function and
6:14unless the same is true of his mind and
6:16his soul
6:17wherever there is unexpressed
6:19possibility or function not performed
6:21there is unsatisfied desire
6:24desire is possibility seeking expression
6:27or function seeking performance
6:30man cannot live fully in body without
6:32good food comfortable clothing and warm
6:35shelter and without freedom from
6:37excessive toil
6:39rest and Recreation are also necessary
6:41to his physical life
6:43he cannot live fully in mind without
6:46books and time to study them without
6:48opportunity for travel and observation
6:50or without intellectual companionship
6:53to live fully in mind he must have
6:56intellectual Recreations and must
6:58surround himself with all the objects of
7:00Art and Beauty he is capable of using
7:02and appreciating
7:04to live fully in Soul Man must have love
7:07and love is denied expression by poverty
7:10a man's highest happiness is found in
7:13the bestowal of benefits on those he
7:15loves Love Finds Its most natural and
7:17spontaneous expression in giving
7:20the man who has nothing to give cannot
7:22fill his place as a husband or father as
7:25a citizen or as a man
7:27it is in the use of material things that
7:30a man finds full life for his body
7:32develops his mind and unfolds his soul
7:35it is therefore of supreme importance to
7:38him that he should be rich
7:40it is perfectly right that you should
7:42desire to be rich if you are a normal
7:44man or woman you cannot help doing so
7:47it is perfectly right that you should
7:49give your best attention to the science
7:51of getting rich for it is the noblest
7:53and most necessary of all studies
7:56if you neglect this study you are
7:58derelict in your duty to yourself to God
8:01and Humanity for you can render to God
8:03in humanity no greater service than to
8:06make the most of yourself
8:09chapter 2.
8:11there is a science
8:13there is a science of getting rich and
8:15it is an exact science like algebra or
8:18arithmetic
8:20there are certain laws which govern the
8:22process of acquiring riches once these
8:25laws are learned and obeyed by any man
8:27he will get rich with mathematical
8:29certainty
8:30the ownership of money and property
8:33comes as a result of doing things in a
8:35certain way those who do things in this
8:37certain way whether on purpose or
8:39accidentally get rich while those who do
8:42not do things in this certain way no
8:44matter how hard they work or how able
8:46they are remain poor
8:48it is a natural law that like causes
8:51always produce like effects and
8:53therefore any man or woman who learns to
8:56do things in this certain way will
8:57infallibly get rich
9:00that the above statement is true is
9:02shown by the following facts getting
9:04rich is not a matter of environment for
9:06if it were all the people in certain
9:09neighborhoods would become wealthy the
9:11people of one city would all be rich
9:13while those of other towns would all be
9:15poor or the inhabitants of one state
9:18would roll in wealth while those of an
9:20adjoining state would be in poverty
9:22but everywhere we see rich and poor
9:25living side by side in the same
9:27environment and often engaged in the
9:29same vocations
9:31when two men are in the same locality
9:34and in the same business and one gets
9:36Rich while the other remains poor it
9:39shows that getting rich is not primarily
9:41a matter of environment
9:43some environments may be more favorable
9:46than others but when two men in the same
9:48business are in the same neighborhood
9:50and one gets Rich while the other fails
9:52it indicates that getting rich is the
9:55result of doing things in a certain way
9:57and further the ability to do things in
10:00this certain way is not do solely to the
10:02possession of talent for many people who
10:05have great talent remain poor while
10:07other who have very little Talent get
10:08rich
10:10studying the people who have got rich we
10:12find that they are an average lot in all
10:14respects having no greater talents and
10:17abilities than other men
10:19it is evident that they do not get rich
10:21because they possess talents and
10:23abilities that other men have not but
10:25because they happen to do things in a
10:27certain way
10:28getting rich is not the result of saving
10:31or Thrift many very penurious people are
10:34poor while free Spenders often get rich
10:37nor is getting rich due to doing things
10:40which others fail to do for two men in
10:42the same business often do almost
10:44exactly the same things and one gets
10:47Rich while the other remains poor or
10:49becomes bankrupt
10:50from all these things we must come to
10:53the conclusion that getting rich is the
10:55result of doing things in a certain way
10:58if getting rich is the result of doing
11:00things in a certain way and if like
11:02causes always produce like effects then
11:04any man or woman who can do things in
11:07that way can become rich and the whole
11:09matter is brought within the domain of
11:11exact science
11:12the question arises here whether this
11:15certain way may not be so difficult that
11:17only a few may follow it
11:19this cannot be true as we have seen so
11:22far as natural ability is concerned
11:26talented people get rich and Blockheads
11:28get rich intellectually brilliant people
11:31get rich and very stupid people get rich
11:33physically strong people get rich and
11:36weak and sickly people get rich
11:39some degree of ability to think and
11:41understand is of course essential but in
11:44so far natural ability is concerned any
11:47man or woman who is sense enough to read
11:49and understand these words can certainly
11:51get rich
11:53also we have seen that it is not a
11:55matter of environment
11:57location counts for something one would
12:00not go to the heart of the Sahara and
12:01expect to do successful business
12:04getting rich involves the necessity of
12:06dealing with men and of being where
12:08there are people to deal with and if
12:10these people are inclined to deal in the
12:12way you want to deal so much the better
12:15but that is about as far as environment
12:17goes
12:18if anybody else in your town can get
12:20rich so can you and if anybody else in
12:23your state can get rich so can you
12:26again it is not a matter of choosing
12:29some particular business or profession
12:31people get rich in every business and in
12:34every profession while they're next door
12:36neighbors in the same location remain in
12:38poverty
12:40it is true that you will do best in a
12:42business which you like and which is
12:44congenial to you and if you have certain
12:46talents which are well developed you
12:48will do best in a business which calls
12:50for the exercise of those talents
12:53also you will do best in a business
12:55which is suited to your locality an ice
12:58cream parlor would do better in a warm
13:00climate than in Greenland and a salmon
13:02fishery will succeed better in the
13:04Northwest than in Florida where there
13:06are no salmon
13:08but aside from these General limitations
13:10getting rich is not dependent upon your
13:13engaging in some particular business but
13:15upon your learning to do things in a
13:17certain way
13:18if you are now in business and anybody
13:21else in your locality is getting rich in
13:23the same business while you are not
13:25getting rich it is because you are not
13:27doing things in the same way that the
13:29other person is doing them
13:31no one is prevented from getting rich by
13:33lack of capital
13:35true as you get Capital the increase
13:37becomes more easy and Rapid but one who
13:40has capital is already rich and does not
13:43need to consider how to become so
13:45no matter how poor you may be if you
13:48begin to do things in a certain way you
13:50will begin to get rich and you will
13:52begin to have capital
13:54the getting of capital is a part of the
13:56process of getting rich and it is a part
13:58of the result which invariably follows
14:00the doing of things in a certain way
14:03you may be the poorest man on the
14:05continent and be deeply in debt you may
14:07have neither friends influence nor
14:10resources but if you begin to do things
14:12in this way you must infallibly begin to
14:15get rich for like causes must produce
14:17like effects
14:19if you have no Capital you can get
14:21Capital if you are in the wrong business
14:23you can get into the right business if
14:26you are in the wrong location you can go
14:28to the right location and you can do so
14:30by beginning in your present business
14:32and in your present location to do
14:34things in a certain way which causes
14:36success
14:39chapter 3.
14:41is opportunity monopolized
14:44no man is kept poor because opportunity
14:46has been taken away from him because
14:48other people have monopolized the wealth
14:50and have put a fence around it
14:53you may be shut off from engaging in
14:55business in certain lines but there are
14:57other channels open to you
15:00probably it would be hard for you to get
15:02control of any of the great railroad
15:04systems that field is pretty well
15:06monopolized
15:07but the electric Railway business is
15:10still in its infancy and offers plenty
15:12of scope for Enterprise and it will be
15:15but a very few years until traffic and
15:17transportation through the air will
15:19become a great industry and in all its
15:21branches will give employment to
15:23hundreds of thousands and perhaps to
15:25millions of people
15:27why not turn your attention to the
15:29development of aerial Transportation
15:30instead of competing with JJ Hill and
15:33others for a chance in the steam Railway
15:35world
15:37it is quite true that if you are a
15:39Workman in the employee of the steel
15:40trust you have very little chance of
15:42becoming the owner of the plant in which
15:44you work but it is also true that if you
15:46will commence to act in a certain way
15:48you can soon leave the employ of the
15:50steel trust you can buy a Pharma from 10
15:53to 40 acres and engage in business as a
15:56producer of foodstuffs
15:58there is great opportunity at this time
16:00for men who will live upon small tracks
16:02of land and cultivate the same
16:04intensively such men will certainly get
16:06rich
16:08you may say that it is impossible for
16:10you to get the land but I am going to
16:12prove to you that it is not impossible
16:14and that you can certainly get a farm if
16:16you will go to work in a certain way
16:19at different periods the tide of
16:21opportunity sets in different directions
16:23according to the needs of the whole and
16:25the particular stage of social Evolution
16:27which has been reached
16:29at present in America it is setting
16:32toward Agriculture and the Allied
16:34Industries and professions
16:36today opportunity is open before the
16:39factory worker in his line
16:42it is open before the businessman who
16:44supplies the farmer more than before the
16:46one who supplies the factory worker and
16:48before the professional man who Waits
16:50upon the farmer more than before the one
16:52who serves the working class
16:54there is abundance of opportunity for
16:57the man who will go with the tide
16:58instead of trying to swim against it
17:01so the factory workers either as
17:03individuals or as a class are not
17:06deprived of opportunity
17:08the workers are not being kept down by
17:11their masters they are not being ground
17:13by the trusts and combinations of
17:15capital
17:16as a class they are where they are
17:19because they do not do things in a
17:21certain way
17:22if the workers of America chose to do so
17:24they could follow the example of their
17:27brothers in Belgium and other countries
17:28and establish great department stores
17:31and Cooperative Industries they could
17:33elect men of their own class to office
17:35and pass laws favoring the development
17:37of such Co-operative Industries and in a
17:41few years they could take Peaceable
17:42possession of the Industrial Field
17:45the working class may become the master
17:47class whenever they will begin to do
17:49things in a certain way the law of
17:51wealth is the same for them as it is for
17:53all others
17:55this they must learn and they will
17:57remain where they are as long as they
17:58continue to do as they do
18:01the individual worker however is not
18:03held down by the ignorance or the mental
18:06slothfulness of his class he can follow
18:08the tide of opportunity to riches and
18:10this book will tell him how
18:12no one is kept in poverty by a shortness
18:15in the supply of riches there is more
18:17than enough for all
18:19a palace as large as the capital at
18:21Washington might be built for every
18:23family on Earth from the building
18:25material in the United States alone and
18:27under intensive cultivation this country
18:30would produce wool cotton linen and silk
18:33enough to cloth each person in the world
18:34finer than Solomon was arrayed in all
18:37his glory together with food enough to
18:39feed them all luxuriously
18:41the visible Supply is practically
18:44inexhaustible and the invisible Supply
18:46really is inexhaustible
18:49everything you see on earth is made from
18:51one original substance out of which all
18:54things proceed
18:55new forms are constantly being made and
18:58older ones are dissolving but all are
19:00shapes assumed by one thing
19:03there is no limit to the supply of
19:05formless stuff or original substance
19:08the universe is made out of it but it
19:10was not all used in making the universe
19:13the space is in through and between the
19:16forms of the visible Universe are
19:18permeated and filled with the original
19:20substance with the formless stuff with
19:22the raw material of all things
19:25ten thousand times as much as has been
19:27made might still be made and even then
19:30we should not have exhausted the supply
19:31of universal raw material
19:34no man therefore is poor because nature
19:37is poor or because there is not enough
19:39to go around
19:41nature is an inexhaustible Storehouse of
19:44riches the supply will never run short
19:47original substance is alive with
19:49Creative Energy and is constantly
19:52producing more forms
19:54when the supply of building material is
19:56exhausted more will be produced when the
19:59soil is exhausted so that food stops and
20:01materials for clothing will no longer
20:03grow upon it it will be renewed or more
20:06soil will be made
20:08when all the gold and silver has been
20:10dug from the earth if man is still in
20:12such a stage of Social Development that
20:14he needs gold and silver more will
20:16produce from the formless
20:19the formless stuff responds to the needs
20:21of man it will not let him be without
20:23any good thing
20:25this is true of man collectively the
20:27race as a whole is always abundantly
20:29rich and if individuals are poor it is
20:32because they do not follow the certain
20:34way of doing things which makes the
20:36individual man rich
20:38the formless stuff is intelligent it is
20:41stuff which thinks
20:42it is alive and is always impelled
20:45toward more life
20:47it is the natural and inherent impulse
20:49of life to seek to live more it is the
20:51nature of intelligence to enlarge itself
20:53and of Consciousness to seek to extend
20:56its boundaries and find Fuller
20:57expression
20:59the universe of forms has been made by
21:01formless living substance throwing
21:03itself into form in order to express
21:05itself more fully
21:07the universe is a great living presence
21:10always moving inherently toward more
21:12life and Fuller functioning
21:14nature is formed for the advancement of
21:17Life its impelling motive is the
21:19increase of life
21:21for this cause everything which can
21:23possibly minister to life is bountifully
21:25provided there can be No Lack unless God
21:28is to contradict himself and nullify his
21:30own works
21:32you are not kept poor by lack in the
21:34supply of riches it is a fact which I
21:37shall demonstrate a little farther on
21:39that even the resources of the formless
21:40supply are at the command of the man or
21:43woman will act and think in a certain
21:44way
21:47chapter 4.
21:49the first principle
21:52thought is the only Power which can
21:54produce tangible riches from the
21:56formless substance
21:57the stuff from which all things are made
21:59is a substance which thinks and a
22:02thought of form in this substance
22:03produces the form
22:05original substance moves according to
22:07its thoughts every form and process you
22:10see in nature is the visible expression
22:12of a thought in original substance
22:15as the formless stuff thinks of a form
22:17it takes that form as it thinks of
22:20emotion it makes that motion
22:23that is the way all things were created
22:26we live in a thought World which is part
22:28of a thought universe
22:30the thought of a moving Universe
22:32extended throughout formless substance
22:34and the thinking stuff moving according
22:36to that thought took the form of systems
22:38of planets and maintains that form
22:42thinking substance takes the form of its
22:44thought and moves according to the
22:46thought
22:47holding the idea of a circling system of
22:50suns and worlds it takes the form of
22:52these bodies and moves them as it thinks
22:55thinking the form of a slow growing oak
22:57tree it moves accordingly and produces
23:00the tree those centuries may be required
23:03to do the work
23:04in creating the formula seems to move
23:07according to the lines of motion it has
23:09established the thought of an oak tree
23:11does not cause the instant formation of
23:13a full-grown tree but it does start in
23:15motion of forces which will produce the
23:17tree along established lines of growth
23:20every thought of form held in thinking
23:23substance causes the creation of the
23:25form but always or at least generally
23:28along lines of growth in action already
23:31established
23:32the thought of a house of a certain
23:34construction if it were impressed upon
23:36formless substance might not cause the
23:39instant formation of the house but it
23:42would cause the Turning of creative
23:43energies already working in trade and
23:45commerce into such channels as to result
23:48in a speedy building of the house
23:50and if there were no existing channels
23:52through which the Creative Energy could
23:54work then the house would be formed
23:56directly from Primal substance without
23:58waiting for the slow processes of the
24:01organic and inorganic world
24:03no thought of form can be impressed upon
24:06original substance without causing the
24:08creation of the form
24:10man is a Thinking Center and can
24:12originate thought
24:14all the forms that man Fashions with his
24:16hands must first exist in his thought he
24:19cannot shape a thing until he has
24:21thought that thing
24:22and so far man has confined his efforts
24:25holy to the work of his hands he has
24:27applied manual labor to the world of
24:29forms seeking to change or modify those
24:32already existing
24:34he has never thought of trying to cause
24:36the creation of new forms by impressing
24:38his thoughts upon formless substance
24:41when man has a thought form he takes
24:44material from the forms of Nature and
24:46makes an image of the form which is in
24:48his mind
24:49he has so far made little or no effort
24:52to cooperate with formless intelligence
24:55to work with the father
24:57he has not dreamed that he can do what
25:00he seek the father doing
25:02man reshapes and modifies existing forms
25:05by manual labor he has given no
25:07attention to the question whether he may
25:09not produce things from formless
25:10substance by communicating his thoughts
25:12to it
25:13we propose to prove that he may do so to
25:16prove that any man or woman may do so
25:19and to show how
25:21as our first step we must lay down three
25:24fundamental propositions
25:26first we assert that there is one
25:28original formless stuff or substance
25:30from which all things are made
25:33all the seemingly many elements are but
25:36different presentations of one element
25:37all the many forms found in organic and
25:40inorganic nature are but different
25:42shapes made from the same stuff
25:45and this stuff is thinking stuff a
25:48thought held and it produces the form of
25:49the thought
25:51thought in thinking substance produces
25:53shapes
25:55man is a Thinking Center capable of
25:58original thought if man can communicate
26:00his thought to original thinking
26:02substance he can cause the creation or
26:04formation of the thing he thinks about
26:07to summarize this there is a thinking
26:10stuff from which all things are made and
26:12which in its original state permeates
26:15penetrates and fills the interspaces of
26:18the universe
26:19a thought in this substance produces the
26:23thing that is imaged by the thought
26:25man can form things in his thought and
26:28by impressing his thought upon formless
26:30substance can cause the thing he thinks
26:32about to be created
26:34it may be asked if I can prove these
26:37statements and without going into
26:38details I answer that I can do so both
26:41by Logic and experience
26:44reasoning back from the phenomena of
26:46form and thought I come to one original
26:48thinking substance and reasoning forward
26:50from this thinking substance I come to
26:53man's power to cause the formation of
26:55the thing he thinks about
26:57and by experiment I find the reasoning
26:59true and this is my strongest proof
27:02if one man who reads this book gets Rich
27:05by doing what it tells him to do that is
27:07evidence in support of my claim but if
27:10every man who does what it tells him to
27:11do gets Rich that is positive proof
27:14until someone goes through the process
27:16and fails
27:17the theory is true until the process
27:19fails and this process will not fail for
27:23every man who does exactly what this
27:25book tells him to do will get rich
27:27I have said that men get rich by doing
27:29things in a certain way and in order to
27:32do so men must become able to think in a
27:34certain way
27:35a man's way of doing things is the
27:38direct result of the way he thinks about
27:40things
27:41to do things in a way you want to do
27:43them you will have to acquire the
27:45ability to think the way you want to
27:47think this is the first step toward
27:49getting rich
27:50to think what you want to think is to
27:52think truth regardless of appearances
27:55Every Man Has the natural and inherent
27:58power to think what he wants to think
27:59but it requires far more effort to do so
28:02than it does to think the thoughts which
28:04are suggested by appearances
28:07to think according to appearance is easy
28:09to think truth regardless of appearances
28:11is laborious and requires the
28:14expenditure of more power than any other
28:16work man is called upon to perform
28:19there is no labor from which most people
28:21shrink as they do from that of sustained
28:23and consecutive thought it is the
28:25hardest work in the world
28:27this is especially true when truth is
28:30contrary to appearances
28:32every appearance in the visible World
28:34tends to produce a corresponding form in
28:36the mind which observes it and this can
28:38only be prevented by holding the thought
28:40of the truth
28:42to look upon the appearance of disease
28:44will produce the form of disease in your
28:46own mind and ultimately in your body
28:48unless you hold the thought of the truth
28:50which is that there is no disease it is
28:53only an appearance and the reality is
28:55health
28:56to look upon the appearances of poverty
28:59will produce corresponding forms in your
29:01own mind unless you hold to the truth
29:03that there is no poverty there is only
29:05abundance
29:06to think Health when surrounded by the
29:09appearances of disease or to think
29:11riches when in the midst of appearances
29:13of poverty requires power but he who
29:15acquires this power becomes a mastermind
29:19he can conquer fate he can have what he
29:21wants
29:22this power can only be acquired by
29:25getting hold of the basic fact which is
29:27behind all appearances and that fact is
29:30that there is one thinking substance
29:31from which and by which all things are
29:34made
29:35then we must grasp the truth that every
29:37thought held in this substance becomes a
29:39form and that man can so impress his
29:42thoughts upon it as to cause them to
29:43take form and become visible things
29:46when we realize this we lose all doubt
29:49and fear for we know that we can create
29:51what we want to create we can get what
29:53we want to have and can become what we
29:55want to be
29:57as a first step toward getting rich you
30:00must believe the three fundamental
30:01statements given previously in this
30:03chapter and in order to emphasize them
30:06I repeat them here there is a thinking
30:08stuff from which all things are made and
30:11which in its original state permeates
30:13penetrates and fills the interspaces of
30:16the universe
30:18a thought in this substance produces the
30:21thing that is imaged by the thought
30:23man can form things in his thought and
30:26by impressing his thought upon formless
30:28substance can cause the thing he thinks
30:31about to be created
30:32you must lay aside all other concepts of
30:35the universe than this monistic one and
30:37you must dwell upon this until it is
30:39fixed in your mind and has become your
30:42habitual thought
30:43read these Creed statements over and
30:45over again fix every word upon your
30:48memory and meditate upon them until you
30:50firmly believe what they say
30:52if a doubt comes to you cast it aside as
30:55a sin
30:57do not listen to arguments against this
30:59idea do not go to churches or lectures
31:01where a contrary concept of things is
31:04taught or preached
31:05do not read magazines or books which
31:08teach a different idea if you get mixed
31:10up in your faith all your efforts will
31:12be in vain
31:14do not ask why these things are true nor
31:17speculate as to how they can be true
31:18simply take them on trust
31:21the science of getting rich begins with
31:23the absolute acceptance of this faith
31:28chapter 5.
31:30increasing life
31:32you must get rid of The Last Vestige of
31:34the old idea that there is a deity whose
31:37will it is that you should be poor or
31:39whose purposes may be served by keeping
31:41you in poverty
31:42the intelligent substance which is all
31:45and in all and which lives in all and
31:47lives in you is a consciously living
31:49substance
31:51being a consciously living substance it
31:54must have the nature and inherent desire
31:56of every living intelligence for
31:58increase of life
31:59every living thing must continually seek
32:02for the enlargement of its life because
32:04life in a mere Act of living must
32:07increase itself
32:09a seed dropped into the ground Springs
32:11into activity and in the act of living
32:14produces a hundred more seeds Life by
32:17living multiplies itself
32:19it is forever becoming more it must do
32:22so if it continues to be at all
32:25intelligence is under this same
32:27necessity for continuous increase
32:30every thought we think makes it
32:32necessary for us to think another
32:33thought Consciousness is continually
32:35expanding
32:37every fact we learn leads us to the
32:39learning of another fact knowledge is
32:42continually increasing
32:43every Talent we cultivate brings to the
32:46mind the desire to cultivate another
32:48Talent we are subject to the urge of
32:50Life seeking expression whichever drives
32:53us on to know more to do more and to be
32:56more
32:57in order to know more do more and be
32:59more we must have more we must have
33:02things to use for we learn and do and
33:05become only by using things
33:07we must get rich so that we can live
33:10more
33:11the desire for riches is simply the
33:13capacity for larger life seeking
33:15fulfillment every desire is the effort
33:18of an unexpressed possibility to come
33:20into action
33:21it is power seeking to manifest which
33:24causes desire
33:26that which makes you want more money is
33:28the same as that which makes the plant
33:29grow it is life seeking Fuller
33:32expression
33:33the one living substance must be subject
33:36to this inherent law of all life it is
33:38permeated with the desire to live more
33:40that is why it is under the necessity of
33:43creating things
33:44the one substance desires to live more
33:47in you hence it wants you to have all
33:49the things you can use
33:51it is the desire of God that you should
33:53get rich
33:54he wants you to get rich because he can
33:57express himself better through you if
33:58you have plenty of things to use in
34:00giving him expression
34:02he can live more in you if you have
34:04unlimited command of the means of life
34:07the universe desires you to have
34:09everything you want to have
34:11nature is friendly to your plans
34:14everything is naturally for you
34:16make up your mind that this is true
34:19it is essential however that your
34:21purpose should harmonize with the
34:23purpose that is in all
34:25you must want real life Not Mere
34:27pleasure of sensual gratification
34:30life is the performance of function and
34:33the individual really lives only when he
34:35performs every function physical mental
34:37and spiritual of which he is capable
34:40without excess in any
34:42you do not want to get rich in order to
34:45live swinishly for the gratification of
34:47animal desires that is not life
34:50but the performance of every physical
34:52function is a part of life and no one
34:54lives completely who denies the impulses
34:57of the body and normal and healthful
34:59expression
35:00you do not want to get rich solely to
35:03enjoy mental Pleasures to get knowledge
35:05to gratify ambition to outshine others
35:08to be famous
35:10all these are a legitimate part of life
35:12but the man who lives for the pleasures
35:14of the intellect alone will only have a
35:16partial life and he will never be
35:18satisfied with his lot
35:20you do not want to get rich solely for
35:22the good of others to Lose Yourself for
35:25the Salvation of mankind to experience
35:27the joys of philanthropy and sacrifice
35:30the joys of the Soul are only a part of
35:33life and they are no better or Noble
35:35than any other part
35:37you want to get rich in order that you
35:39may eat drink and be merry when it is
35:42time to do these things in order that
35:44you may surround yourself with beautiful
35:45things see distant lands feed your mind
35:48and develop your intellect in order that
35:51you may love men and do kind things and
35:53be able to play a good part in helping
35:55the world to find truth
35:57but remember that extreme altruism is no
36:00better and no nobler than extreme
36:02selfishness both are mistakes
36:05get rid of the idea that God wants you
36:07to sacrifice yourself for others and
36:10that you can secure his favor by doing
36:12so God requires nothing of the kind
36:15what he wants is that you should make
36:17the most of yourself for yourself and
36:19for others and you can help others more
36:21by making the most of yourself than in
36:24any other way
36:25you can make the most of yourself only
36:27by getting rich so it is right and
36:29praiseworthy that you should give your
36:31first and best thought to the work of
36:33acquiring wealth
36:34remember however that the desire of
36:37substance is for all and its movements
36:39must be for more life to all it cannot
36:42be made to work for Less life to any
36:44because it is equally in all seeking
36:46riches in life
36:48intelligent substance will make things
36:50for you but it will not take things away
36:52from someone else and give them to you
36:55you must get rid of the thought of
36:57competition
36:58you are to create not to compete for
37:01what is already created
37:03you do not have to take anything away
37:05from anyone
37:07you do not have to drive sharp bargains
37:10you do not have to cheat or to take
37:12advantage
37:14you do not need to let any man work for
37:16you for less than he earns
37:18you do not have to covet the property of
37:21others or to look at it with Wishful
37:23eyes no man has anything of which you
37:25cannot have the like and that without
37:27taking what he has away from him
37:29you are to become a Creator not a
37:32competitor you are going to get what you
37:34want but in such a way that when you get
37:36it every other man will have more than
37:37he has now
37:39I am aware that there are men who get a
37:41vast amount of money by proceeding in
37:43direct opposition to the statements in
37:45the paragraph above and may add a word
37:47of explanation here
37:49men of the plutocratic type who become
37:51very rich do so sometimes purely by
37:54their extraordinary ability on the plane
37:56of competition and sometimes they
37:58unconsciously relate themselves to
38:00substance in its great purposes and
38:02movements for the general racial
38:04upbuilding through industrial evolution
38:06Rockefeller Carnegie Morgan and all have
38:10been the unconscious agents of the
38:12Supreme in a necessary work of
38:13systematizing and organizing productive
38:16industry and in the end their work will
38:18contribute immensely toward increased
38:20life for all
38:22their day is nearly over they have
38:24organized production and will soon be
38:26succeeded by the Agents of the multitude
38:28who will organize the Machinery of
38:30distribution
38:32the multi-millionaires are like the
38:34monster reptiles of the prehistoric eras
38:36they play a necessary part in The
38:38evolutionary process but the same power
38:41which produced them will dispose of them
38:44and it is well to bear in mind that they
38:46have never been really rich a record of
38:48the private lives of most of this class
38:50will show that they have really been the
38:52most abject and wretched of the poor
38:55rich is secured on the competitive plane
38:57are never satisfactory and permanent
38:59they are yours today and another's
39:01tomorrow
39:03remember if you are to become rich in a
39:05scientific and certain way you must rise
39:08entirely out of the competitive thought
39:11you must never think for a moment that
39:13the supply is limited
39:15just as soon as you begin to think that
39:17all the money is being cornered and
39:19controlled by bankers and others and
39:22that you must exert yourself to get laws
39:24passed to stop this process and so on in
39:27that moment you drop into the
39:28competitive mind and your power to cause
39:30creation is gone for the time being and
39:33what is worse you will probably arrest
39:35the creative movements you have already
39:37instituted
39:39know that there are countless millions
39:41of dollars worth of gold in the
39:42mountains of the earth not yet brought
39:44to light and know that if there were not
39:46more would be created from thinking
39:48substance to supply your needs
39:51know that the money you need will come
39:53even if it is necessary for a thousand
39:55men to be led to the discovery of new
39:57gold mines to moral
39:59never look at the visible Supply look
40:02always at the Limitless riches in
40:03formless substance and know that they
40:06are coming to you as fast as you can
40:07receive and use them
40:09Nobody by cornering the visible Supply
40:12can prevent you from getting what is
40:14yours
40:15so never allow yourself to think for an
40:17instant that all the best building spots
40:19will be taken before you get ready to
40:21build your house unless you hurry
40:24never worry about the trusts and
40:26combines and get anxious for fear they
40:29will soon come to own the whole Earth
40:31never get afraid that you will lose what
40:33you want because some other person beats
40:36you to it
40:37that cannot possibly happen you are not
40:40seeking anything that is possessed by
40:42anybody else you are causing what you
40:44want to be created from form a substance
40:46and the supply is Without Limits
40:49stick to the formulated statement there
40:51is a thinking stuff from which all
40:53things are made and which in its
40:55original state permeates penetrates and
40:58fills the interspaces of the universe
41:01a thought in this substance produces the
41:04thing that is imaged by the thought
41:07man can form things in his thought and
41:10by impressing his thought upon formless
41:12substance can cause the thing he thinks
41:14about to be created
41:18chapter 6.
41:20how rich has come to you
41:22when I say that you do not have to drive
41:25sharp Bargains I do not mean that you do
41:27not have to drive any Bargains at all or
41:30that you are above the necessity for
41:31having any dealings with your fellow men
41:34I mean that you will not need to deal
41:36with them unfairly you do not have to
41:38get something for nothing but can give
41:40to every man more than you take from him
41:43you cannot give every man more in cash
41:45market value than you take from him but
41:47you can give him more in-use value than
41:49the cash value of the thing you take
41:51from him
41:52the paper ink and other material in this
41:55book may not be worth the money you pay
41:57for it but if the idea is suggested by
42:00it bring you thousands of dollars you
42:02have not been wronged by those who sold
42:04it to you they have given you a great
42:06use value for a small cash value
42:09let us suppose that I own a picture by
42:11one of the great artists which in any
42:14civilized Community is worth thousands
42:16of dollars
42:18I take it to Baffin Ray and by
42:20salesmanship induce an Eskimo to give a
42:23bundle of Furs worth five hundred
42:25dollars for it
42:26I have really wronged him for he has no
42:29use for the picture it has no use value
42:31to him it will not add to his life
42:34but suppose I give him a gun worth fifty
42:37dollars for his furs then he has made a
42:39good bargain
42:40he has used for the gun it will get him
42:43many more Furs and much food it will add
42:45to his life in every way it will make
42:47him rich
42:49when you rise from a competitive to the
42:51creative plane you can scan your
42:53business transactions very strictly and
42:55if you are selling any man anything
42:57which does not add more to his life than
42:59the thing he give you in exchange you
43:01can afford to stop it
43:03you do not have to beat anybody in
43:05business
43:06and if you are in a business which does
43:09beat people get out of it at once
43:11give every man more in-use value than
43:14you take from him in cash value then you
43:16are adding to the life of the World by
43:18every business transaction
43:20if you have people working for you you
43:23must take from them more in cash value
43:24than you pay them in wages but you can
43:27so organize your business that it will
43:29be filled with the principle of
43:30advancement and so that each employee
43:32who wishes to do so may Advance a little
43:35every day
43:36you can make your business do for your
43:38employees what this book is doing for
43:40you
43:41you can so conduct your business that it
43:43will be a sort of ladder by which every
43:45employee who will take the trouble may
43:47climb to riches himself and given the
43:49opportunity if he will not do so it is
43:52not your fault
43:53and finally because you are to cause the
43:56creation of your riches from formless
43:58substance which permeates all your
44:00environment it does not follow that they
44:02are to take shape from the atmosphere
44:04and come into being before your eyes
44:06if you want a sewing machine for
44:09instance I do not mean to tell you that
44:11you are to impress the thought of a
44:13sewing machine on thinking substance
44:15until the machine is formed without
44:17hands in the room where you sit or
44:19elsewhere
44:20but if you want a sewing machine hold
44:23the mental image of it with the most
44:25positive certainty that it is being made
44:27or is on its way to you
44:29after once forming the thought have the
44:32most absolute and unquestioning faith
44:34that the sewing machine is coming never
44:36think of it or speak of it in any other
44:39way than as being sure to arrive
44:42claim it as already yours
44:45it will be brought to you by the power
44:46of the Supreme intelligence acting upon
44:49the minds of men
44:50if you live in Maine it may be that a
44:53man will be brought from Texas or Japan
44:55to engage in some transaction which will
44:58result in your getting what you want
45:00if so the whole matter will be as much
45:02to that man's Advantage as it is to
45:04yours
45:06do not forget for a moment that the
45:08thinking substance is through all in all
45:10communicating with all and can influence
45:13all
45:14the desire of thinking substance for
45:16Fuller life and Better Living has caused
45:18the creation of all the sewing machines
45:20already made and it can cause the
45:22creation of millions more and will
45:24whenever Men set it in motion by desire
45:27and faith and by acting in a certain way
45:30you can certainly have a sewing machine
45:32in your house and it is just as certain
45:35that you can have any other thing or
45:36things which you want and which you will
45:38use for the advancement of your own life
45:40and the lives of others
45:42you need not hesitate about asking
45:45largely it is your father's pleasure to
45:47give you the kingdom said Jesus
45:50original substance wants to live all
45:52that is possible in you and wants you to
45:54have all that you can or will use for
45:56the living of the most abundant life
45:59if you fix upon your Consciousness the
46:01fact that the desire you feel for the
46:03possession of riches is one with the
46:05desire of omnipotence for more complete
46:07expression your faith becomes invincible
46:10once I saw a little boy sitting at a
46:13piano and vainly trying to bring Harmony
46:15out of the keys and I saw that he was
46:17grieved and provoked by his inability to
46:19play real music
46:21I asked him the cause of his vexation
46:23and he answered I can feel the music in
46:26me but I can't make my hands go right
46:29the music in him was the urge of
46:31original substance containing all the
46:33possibilities of all life all that there
46:36is of music was seeking expression
46:38through the child
46:39God the one substance is trying to live
46:42and do and enjoy things through Humanity
46:45he is saying I want hands to build
46:48wonderful structures to play Divine
46:50harmonies to paint glorious pictures I
46:53want feet to run my errands eyes to see
46:55my Beauties tongues to tell Mighty
46:57truths and to sing marvelous songs and
47:00so on
47:01all that there is a possibility is
47:04seeking expression through men
47:06God wants those who can play music to
47:08have pianos and every other instrument
47:10and to have the means to cultivate their
47:12talents to the fullest extent he wants
47:15those who can appreciate Beauty to be
47:17able to surround themselves with
47:18beautiful things he wants those who can
47:20discern truth to have every opportunity
47:22to travel and observe he wants those who
47:25can appreciate dress to be beautifully
47:27clothed and those who can appreciate
47:29good food to be luxuriously fed
47:32he wants all these things because it is
47:34himself that enjoys and appreciates them
47:37it is God who wants to play and sing and
47:40enjoy Beauty and Proclaim truth and wear
47:42fine clothes and eat good foods it is
47:45God that worketh in you to Will and to
47:47do said Paul
47:49the desire you feel for riches is the
47:52infinite seeking to express himself in
47:54you as he sought to find expression in
47:56the little boy at the piano
47:58so you need not hesitate to ask largely
48:02your part is to focalize and express the
48:05desire to God
48:06this is a difficult point with most
48:08people they retain something of the old
48:11idea that poverty and self-sacrifice are
48:13pleasing to God
48:15they look upon poverty as a part of the
48:17plan a necessity of nature
48:20they have the idea that God has finished
48:22his work and made all that he can make
48:24and that the majority of men must stay
48:27poor because there is not enough to go
48:29around
48:30they hold to so much of this erroneous
48:32thought that they feel ashamed to ask
48:34for wealth they try not to want more
48:36than a very modest competence just
48:38enough to make them fairly comfortable
48:41I recall now the case of one student who
48:43was told that he must get in mind a
48:45clear picture of the things he desired
48:47so that the creative thought of them
48:49might be impressed on formless substance
48:52he was a very poor man living in a
48:54rented house and having only what he
48:56earned from day to day and he could not
48:58grasp the fact that all wealth was his
49:01so after thinking the matter over he
49:04decided that he might reasonably ask for
49:07a new rug for the floor of his best room
49:09and an anthracite coal stove to heat the
49:11house during the cold weather
49:14following the instructions given in this
49:16book he obtained these things in a few
49:18months and then it dawned upon him that
49:20he had not asked enough
49:22he went through the house in which he
49:24lived and planned all the improvements
49:26he would like to make in it he mentally
49:28added a bay window here and a room there
49:31until it was complete in his mind as his
49:33ideal home and then he planned its
49:36furnishings
49:37holding the whole picture in his mind he
49:39began living in a certain way and moving
49:42toward what he wanted and he owns the
49:44house now and is rebuilding it after the
49:46form of his mental image
49:49and now with still larger Faith he is
49:52going on to get greater things
49:54it has been unto him according to his
49:56faith and it is so with you and with all
49:59of us
50:02chapter 7.
50:03gratitude
50:05the illustrations given in the last
50:07chapter will have conveyed to the reader
50:09the fact that the first step toward
50:11getting rich is to convey the idea of
50:13your wants to the formless substance
50:16this is true and you will see that in
50:18order to do so it becomes necessary to
50:20relate yourself to the formless
50:22intelligence in a harmonious way
50:25to secure this harmonious relation is a
50:27matter of such primary and vital
50:29importance that I shall give some space
50:31to its discussion here and give you
50:33instructions which if you will follow
50:35them will be certain to bring you into
50:37perfect Unity of mind with God
50:39the whole process of mental adjustment
50:41in atonement can be summed up in one
50:43word gratitude
50:45first you believe that there is one
50:48intelligent substance from which all
50:50things proceed second you believe that
50:53this substance gives you everything you
50:54desire and third you relate yourself to
50:57it by a feeling of deep and profound
50:59gratitude
51:01many people who order their lives
51:03rightly in all other ways are kept in
51:05poverty by their lack of gratitude
51:08having received one gift from God they
51:10cut the wires which connect them with
51:12him by failing to make acknowledgment
51:15it is easy to understand that the nearer
51:17we live to the source of wealth the more
51:19wealth we shall receive and it is easy
51:22also to understand that the soul that is
51:24always grateful lives in closer touch
51:26with God than the one which never looks
51:28to him in thankful acknowledgment
51:31the more gratefully we fix our minds on
51:33the Supreme when good things come to us
51:35the more good things we will receive and
51:38the more rapidly they will come and the
51:40reason simply is that the mental
51:41attitude of gratitude draws the Mind
51:43into closer touch with the source from
51:45which the blessings come
51:47if it is a new thought to you that
51:49gratitude brings your whole mind into
51:51closer harmony with the creative
51:53energies of the universe consider it
51:55well and you will see that it is true
51:58the good things you already have have
52:00come to you along the line of obedience
52:02to certain laws
52:04gratitude will lead your mind out along
52:06the ways by which things come and it
52:08will keep you in close harmony with
52:10creative thought and prevent you from
52:11falling into competitive thought
52:14gratitude alone can keep you looking
52:16toward the all and prevent you from
52:18falling into the error of thinking of
52:20the supply as limited and to do that
52:22would be fatal to your hopes
52:24there is a law of gratitude and it is
52:27absolutely necessary that you should
52:28observe the law if you are to get the
52:31results you seek
52:32the law of gratitude is the natural
52:35principle that action and reaction are
52:37always equal and in opposite directions
52:40The Grateful outreaching of your mind
52:42and thankful praise to the Supreme is a
52:44Liberation or expenditure of force it
52:47cannot fail to reach that to which it
52:49addressed and the reaction is an
52:51instantaneous movement towards you
52:53draw an eye unto God and He will draw an
52:56eye unto you
52:58that is a statement of psychological
53:00truth
53:01and if your gratitude is strong and
53:04constant the reaction in formless
53:06substance will be strong and continuous
53:08the movement of the things you want will
53:10be always toward you
53:12notice the grateful attitude that Jesus
53:14Took how he always seems to be saying I
53:17thank thee father that thou herest me
53:21you cannot exercise much power without
53:23gratitude for it is gratitude that keeps
53:26you connected with power
53:28but the value of gratitude does not
53:30consist solely in getting you more
53:32blessings in the future
53:34without gratitude you cannot long keep
53:36from dissatisfied thought regarding
53:38things as they are
53:40the moment you permit your mind to dwell
53:42with dissatisfaction upon things as they
53:44are you begin to lose ground
53:47you fix attention upon the common the
53:50ordinary the poor and the squalid and
53:52mean and your mind takes the form of
53:54these things
53:56then you will transmit these forms or
53:58mental images to the formless and the
54:00common the poor the squalid and mean
54:03will come to you
54:05to permit your mind to dwell upon the
54:07inferior is to become inferior and to
54:09surround yourself with inferior things
54:12on the other hand to fix your attention
54:15on the best is to surround yourself with
54:17the best and to become the best
54:19the creative power within us makes us
54:22into the image of that to which we give
54:24our attention
54:25we are thinking substance and thinking
54:27substance always takes the form of that
54:30which it thinks about
54:31The Grateful mind is constantly fixed
54:34upon the best therefore it tends to
54:36become the best it takes the form or
54:38character of the best and will receive
54:40the best
54:42also faith is born of gratitude
54:45The Grateful mind continually expects
54:48good things and expectation becomes
54:50faith
54:51the reaction of gratitude upon one's own
54:54mind produces faith and every outgoing
54:57wave of grateful Thanksgiving increases
54:59faith
55:00he who has no feeling of gratitude
55:02cannot long retain a living faith and
55:05without a living faith you cannot get
55:07rich by the creative method as we shall
55:09see in the following chapters
55:12it is necessary then to cultivate the
55:14habit of being grateful for every good
55:16thing that comes to you and to give
55:19thanks continuously
55:21and because all things have contributed
55:23to your advancement you should include
55:25all things in your gratitude
55:27do not waste time thinking or talking
55:29about the shortcomings or wrong actions
55:32of plutocrats or trust magnates
55:34their organization of the world has
55:36major opportunity all you get really
55:39comes to you because of them
55:41do not rage against corrupt politicians
55:44if it were not for politicians we should
55:46fall into Anarchy and your opportunity
55:48would be greatly lessened
55:50God has worked a long time and very
55:53patiently to bring us up to where we are
55:55in industry and government and he is
55:57going right on with his work
55:59there is not the least doubt that he
56:01will do away with plutocrats trust
56:03magnates captains of industry and
56:06politicians as soon as they can be
56:07spared but in the meantime behold they
56:10are all very good
56:12remember that they are all helping to
56:14arrange the lines of transmission along
56:16which your riches will come to you and
56:18be grateful to them all
56:20this will bring you into harmonious
56:22relations with the good in everything
56:24and the good in everything will move
56:26toward you
56:29chapter 8.

56:38image of his house and you will get a
56:40fair idea of the initial step toward
56:42getting rich
56:43you must form a clear and definite
56:45mental picture of what you want you
56:48cannot transmit an idea unless you have
56:50it yourself
56:51you must have it before you can give it
56:53and many people fail to impress thinking
56:56substance because they have themselves
56:57only a vague and Misty concept of the
57:00things they want to do to have or to
57:02become
57:03it is not enough that you should have a
57:05general desire for wealth to do good
57:07with everybody has that desire
57:10it is not enough that you should have a
57:12wish to travel see things live more Etc
57:16everybody has those desires also
57:19if you are going to send a wireless
57:21message to a friend you would not send
57:24the letters of the alphabet in their
57:25order and let him construct the message
57:27for himself nor would you take words at
57:30random from the dictionary
57:32you would send a coherent sentence one
57:34which meant something
57:36when you try to impress your Once Upon
57:38substance remember that it must be done
57:41by a coherent statement you must know
57:43what you want and be definite
57:46you can never get rich or start the
57:48creative power into action by sending
57:51out unformed longings and vague desires
57:54go over your desires just as the man I
57:56have described went over his house see
57:58just what you want and get a clear
58:00mental picture of it as you wish it to
58:02look when you get it
58:04that clear mental picture you must have
58:06continually in mind as the sailor has in
58:09mind the port toward which he is sailing
58:11the ship you must keep your face toward
58:13it all the time
58:14you must no more lose sight of it than
58:17the steersman loses sight of the compass
58:19it is not necessary to take exercises in
58:22concentration nor to set apart special
58:25times for prayer and affirmation nor to
58:27go into the silence nor to do a cold
58:30stance of any kind
58:32their things are well enough but all you
58:34need is to know what you want and to
58:36want it badly enough so that it will
58:38stay in your thoughts
58:40spend as much of your leisure time as
58:42you can in contemplating your picture
58:44but no one needs to take exercises to
58:46concentrate his mind on a thing which he
58:48really wants it is the things you do not
58:51really care about which require effort
58:53to fix your attention upon them
58:55and unless you really want to get rich
58:57so that the desire is strong enough to
58:59hold your thoughts directed to the
59:01purpose as the magnetic pole holds the
59:03needle of the compass it will hardly be
59:05worthwhile for you to try to carry out
59:07the instructions given in this book
59:10the methods herein set forth are for
59:12people Whose desire for riches is strong
59:15enough to overcome mental laziness and
59:17the love of ease and make them work
59:20the more clear and definite you make
59:22your picture then and the more you dwell
59:24upon it bringing out all its delightful
59:26details the stronger your desire will be
59:28and the stronger your desire the easier
59:31it will be to hold your mind fixed upon
59:33the picture of what you want
59:35something more is necessary however than
59:38merely to see the picture clearly
59:40if that is all you do you are only a
59:43dreamer and will have little or no power
59:45for accomplishment
59:47behind your Clear Vision must be the
59:49purpose to realize it to bring it out in
59:52tangible expression
59:54and behind this purpose must be an
59:56invincible and unwavering faith that the
59:58thing is already yours that it is at
1:00:01hand and you have only to take
1:00:02possession of it
1:00:04live in the new house mentally until it
1:00:07takes form around you physically
1:00:09in the mental realm enter it once into
1:00:12full enjoyment of the things you want
1:00:15whatsoever things ye ask for when you
1:00:17pray believe that ye receive them and ye
1:00:19shall have them said Jesus
1:00:22see the things you want as if they were
1:00:24actually around you all the time see
1:00:26yourself as owning and using them
1:00:29make use of them in imagination just as
1:00:31you will use them when they are your
1:00:33tangible possessions
1:00:34dwell upon your mental picture until it
1:00:37is clear and distinct and then take the
1:00:39mental attitude of ownership toward
1:00:41everything in that picture
1:00:43take possession of it in mind in the
1:00:46full faith that it is actually yours
1:00:49hold to this mental ownership do not
1:00:51waver for an instant in the faith that
1:00:53it is real
1:00:55and remember what was said in a
1:00:56preceding chapter about gratitude be as
1:00:59thankful for it all the time as you
1:01:01expect to be when it has taken form
1:01:04the man who can sincerely thank God for
1:01:06the things which is yet he owns only in
1:01:08imagination has real faith
1:01:11he will get rich he will cause the
1:01:13creation of whatsoever he wants
1:01:16you do not need to pray repeatedly for
1:01:18things you want it is not necessary to
1:01:21tell God about it every day
1:01:23use not vain repetitions as the Heathen
1:01:25do said Jesus said to his pupils for
1:01:28your father knoweth the ye have need of
1:01:30these things before ye ask him
1:01:33your part is to intelligently formulate
1:01:35your desire for the things which make
1:01:37for a larger life and to get these
1:01:39desires arranged into a coherent whole
1:01:41and then to impress this whole desire
1:01:43upon the form of substance which has the
1:01:46power and the will to bring you what you
1:01:48want
1:01:49you do not make this impression by
1:01:51repeating strings of words you make it
1:01:53by holding the vision with unshakable
1:01:55purpose to attain it and with steadfast
1:01:57faith that you do attain it
1:02:00the answer to prayer is not according to
1:02:02your faith while you are talking but
1:02:04according to your faith while you are
1:02:06working
1:02:07you cannot impress the mind of God by
1:02:09having a special Sabbath day set apart
1:02:11to tell him what you want and the
1:02:13forgetting him during the rest of the
1:02:14week
1:02:16you cannot impress him by having special
1:02:18hours to go into your closet and pray if
1:02:21you then dismiss the matter from your
1:02:23mind until The Hour of Prayer comes
1:02:24again
1:02:25oral prayer is well enough and has its
1:02:28effect especially upon yourself in
1:02:31clarifying your vision and strengthening
1:02:33your faith but it is not your oral
1:02:35petitions which get you what you want
1:02:37in order to get rich you do not need a
1:02:40Sweet Hour of Prayer you need to pray
1:02:42without ceasing
1:02:44and by prayer I mean holding steadily to
1:02:46your vision with the purpose to cause
1:02:48its creation into solid form and the
1:02:51faith that you are doing so
1:02:53believe that you receive them
1:02:55the whole matter turns on receiving once
1:02:58you have clearly formed your vision
1:03:00when you have formed it it is well to
1:03:03make an oral statement addressing the
1:03:05Supreme in reverent prayer and from that
1:03:07moment you must in mind receive what you
1:03:10ask for
1:03:11live in the new house where the fine
1:03:13clothes ride in the automobile go on the
1:03:16journey and confidently plan for greater
1:03:19Journeys
1:03:20think and speak of all the things you
1:03:22have asked for in terms of actual
1:03:24present ownership
1:03:26imagine an environment and a financial
1:03:28condition exactly as you want them and
1:03:31live all the time in that imaginary
1:03:33environment and financial condition
1:03:35mind however that you do not do this as
1:03:38a mere dreamer and Castle Builder hold
1:03:41to the faith that the imaginary is being
1:03:43realized and to the purpose to realize
1:03:45it
1:03:46remember that it is Faith and purpose in
1:03:49the use of the imagination which make
1:03:51the difference between a scientist and
1:03:53the dreamer
1:03:54and Having learned this fact it is here
1:03:56that you must learn the proper use of
1:03:58the will
1:04:01chapter 9.
1:04:03how to use the will
1:04:05to set about getting rich in a
1:04:07scientific way you do not try to apply
1:04:10your willpower to anything outside of
1:04:12yourself
1:04:13you have no right to do so anyway
1:04:16it is wrong to apply your will to other
1:04:19men and women in order to get them to do
1:04:21what you wish done
1:04:22it is as flagrantly wrong to coerce
1:04:25people by mental power as it is to
1:04:27coerce them by physical power
1:04:29if compelling people by physical Force
1:04:32to do things for you reduces them to
1:04:34slavery compelling them by mental means
1:04:36accomplishes exactly the same thing the
1:04:39only difference is in methods
1:04:41if taking things from people by physical
1:04:43force is robbery then taking things by
1:04:46mental force is robbery also there is no
1:04:49difference in principle
1:04:51you have no right to use your willpower
1:04:53upon another person even for his own
1:04:55good for you do not know what is for his
1:04:58good
1:04:59the science of getting rich does not
1:05:01require you to apply power or Force to
1:05:03any other person in any way whatsoever
1:05:07there is not the slightest necessity for
1:05:09doing so indeed any attempt to use your
1:05:12will upon others will only tend to
1:05:14defeat your purpose
1:05:15you do not need to apply your will to
1:05:18things in order to compel them to come
1:05:20to you
1:05:21that would simply be trying to coerce
1:05:23God and would be foolish and useless as
1:05:26well as irreverent
1:05:27you do not have to compel God to give
1:05:30you good things any more than you have
1:05:32to use your willpower to make the sun
1:05:34rise
1:05:35you do not have to use your willpower to
1:05:38conquer an unfriendly deity or to make
1:05:40stubborn and rebellious forces do your
1:05:42bidding
1:05:43substance is friendly to you and is more
1:05:46anxious to give you what you want than
1:05:48you are to get it
1:05:49to get rich you need only to use your
1:05:52willpower upon yourself
1:05:54when you know what to think and do then
1:05:56you must use your will to compel
1:05:58yourself to think and do the right
1:05:59things
1:06:01that is the legitimate use of the will
1:06:03in getting what you want to use it and
1:06:04holding yourself to the right course
1:06:07use your will to keep yourself thinking
1:06:09and acting in a certain way
1:06:11do not try to project your will or your
1:06:14thoughts or your mind out into space to
1:06:16act on things or people
1:06:19keep your mind at home it can accomplish
1:06:21more there than elsewhere
1:06:23use your mind to form a mental image of
1:06:26what you want and to hold that Vision
1:06:28with faith and purpose and use your will
1:06:30to keep your mind working in the right
1:06:32way
1:06:33the more steady and continuous your
1:06:35faith and purpose the more rapidly you
1:06:37will get rich because you will make only
1:06:39positive Impressions upon substance and
1:06:42you will not neutralize or offset them
1:06:44by negative impressions
1:06:46the picture of your desires held with
1:06:49faith and purpose is taken up by the
1:06:51formless and permeates it to Great
1:06:54distances throughout the Universe for
1:06:56all I know
1:06:57as this impression spreads all things
1:07:00are set moving toward its realization
1:07:02every living thing every inanimate thing
1:07:05and the things yet uncreated are stirred
1:07:07toward bringing into being that which
1:07:09you want
1:07:10all Force begins to be exerted in that
1:07:13direction all things begin to move
1:07:15toward you
1:07:16the minds of people everywhere are
1:07:19influenced toward doing the things
1:07:20necessary to the fulfilling of your
1:07:22desires and they work for you
1:07:24unconsciously
1:07:26but you can check all this by starting a
1:07:28negative impression in the formless
1:07:30substance
1:07:31doubt or unbelief is as certain to start
1:07:34a movement away from you as faith and
1:07:36purpose are to start one toward you
1:07:39It Is by not understanding this that
1:07:41most people who try to make use of
1:07:43mental science in getting rich make
1:07:45their failure
1:07:47every hour and moment you spend in
1:07:49giving heed to doubts and fears every
1:07:51hour you spend and worry every hour in
1:07:54which your soul is possessed by unbelief
1:07:56sets a current away from you in the
1:07:58whole domain of intelligent substance
1:08:01all the promises are unto them that
1:08:03believe and unto them only
1:08:06notice how insistent Jesus was upon this
1:08:08point of belief and now you know the
1:08:10reason why
1:08:12since belief is all important it
1:08:14behooves you to guard your thoughts and
1:08:16as your beliefs will be shaped to a very
1:08:18great extent by the things you observe
1:08:21and think about it is important that you
1:08:23should command your attention
1:08:25and here the will comes into use for it
1:08:27is by your will that you determine upon
1:08:29what things your attention shall be
1:08:31fixed
1:08:32if you want to become rich you must not
1:08:35make a study of poverty
1:08:37things are not brought into being by
1:08:39thinking about their opposites
1:08:41health is never to be attained by
1:08:43studying disease and thinking about
1:08:45disease righteousness is not to be
1:08:47promoted by studying sin and thinking
1:08:49about Sin and no one ever got rich by
1:08:52studying poverty and thinking about
1:08:54poverty
1:08:55medicine as a science of disease has
1:08:58increased disease religion as a science
1:09:00of sin has promoted sin and economics as
1:09:03a study of poverty will fill the world
1:09:05with wretchedness and want
1:09:07do not talk about poverty do not
1:09:09investigate it or concern yourself with
1:09:12it
1:09:13never mind what its causes are you have
1:09:15nothing to do with them
1:09:17what concerns you is the cure
1:09:20do not spend your time in charitable
1:09:22work or charity movements all charity
1:09:25only tends to perpetuate the
1:09:27wretchedness it aims to eradicate
1:09:29I do not say that you should be
1:09:31hard-hearted or unkind and refuse to
1:09:34hear the Cry of need but you must not
1:09:36try to eradicate poverty in any of the
1:09:38conventional ways
1:09:40put poverty behind you and put all that
1:09:43pertains to it behind you and make good
1:09:46get rich that is the best way you can
1:09:49help the poor
1:09:50and you cannot hold the mental image
1:09:52which is to make you rich if you fill
1:09:54your mind with pictures of poverty
1:09:57do not read books or papers which give
1:09:59circumstantial accounts of the
1:10:01wretchedness of the tenement dwellers of
1:10:03the horrors of child labor and so on
1:10:06do not read anything which fills your
1:10:09mind with gloomy images of want and
1:10:11suffering
1:10:12you cannot help the poor in the least by
1:10:14knowing about these things and the
1:10:16widespread knowledge of them does not
1:10:18tend at all to do away with poverty
1:10:20what tends to do away with poverty is
1:10:23not the getting of pictures of poverty
1:10:25into your mind but getting pictures of
1:10:27wealth into the minds of the poor
1:10:30you are not deserting the poor in their
1:10:32misery when you refuse to allow your
1:10:34mind to be filled with pictures of that
1:10:35misery
1:10:36poverty can be done away with not by
1:10:39increasing the number of well-to-do
1:10:41people who think about poverty but by
1:10:43increasing the number of poor people who
1:10:45Purpose with faith to get rich
1:10:47the poor do not need charity they need
1:10:50inspiration
1:10:52charity only sends them a loaf of bread
1:10:54to keep them alive in their wretchedness
1:10:56or gives them an entertainment to make
1:10:58them forget for an hour or two but
1:11:00inspiration will cause them to rise out
1:11:03of their misery
1:11:04if you want to help the poor demonstrate
1:11:06to them that they can become rich prove
1:11:09it by getting rich yourself
1:11:11the only way in which poverty will ever
1:11:13be banished from this world is by
1:11:15getting a large and constantly
1:11:16increasing number of people to practice
1:11:18the teachings of this book
1:11:20people must be taught to become rich by
1:11:23creation not by competition
1:11:25every man who becomes rich by
1:11:27competition throws down behind him the
1:11:30latter by which he rises and keeps
1:11:32others down but every man who gets Rich
1:11:34by creation opens a way for thousands to
1:11:37follow him and inspires them to do so
1:11:40you are not showing Hardness of Heart or
1:11:42an unfeeling disposition when you refuse
1:11:45to pity poverty see poverty read about
1:11:47poverty or think or talk about it or to
1:11:50listen to those who do talk about it
1:11:53usual power to keep your mind off the
1:11:56subject of poverty and to keep it fixed
1:11:58with faith and purpose on a vision of
1:12:01what you want
1:12:04chapter 10.
1:12:06further use of the will
1:12:08you cannot retain a true and Clear
1:12:10Vision of wealth if you are constantly
1:12:12turning your attention to opposing
1:12:14pictures whether they be external or
1:12:16imaginary
1:12:18do not tell of your past Troubles of a
1:12:20financial nature if you have had them do
1:12:22not think of them at all
1:12:24do no tell of the poverty of your
1:12:26parents or the hardships of your early
1:12:28life to do any of these things is to
1:12:31mentally class yourself with the poor
1:12:33for the time being and it will certainly
1:12:35check the movement of things in your
1:12:36direction
1:12:37Let the dead bury their dead as Jesus
1:12:40said
1:12:41put poverty and all things that pertain
1:12:44to Poverty completely behind you
1:12:46you have accepted a certain theory of
1:12:49the universe as being correct and are
1:12:51resting all your hopes of Happiness on
1:12:53its being correct and what can you gain
1:12:55by giving heed to conflicting theories
1:12:58do not read religious books which tell
1:13:00you that the world is soon coming to an
1:13:02end and do not read the writing of
1:13:04muckrakers and pessimistic philosophers
1:13:06who tell you that it is going to the
1:13:08devil
1:13:09the world is not going to the devil it
1:13:11is going to God
1:13:13it is wonderful becoming
1:13:15true there may be a good many things in
1:13:18existing conditions which are
1:13:19disagreeable but what is the use of
1:13:21studying them when they are certainly
1:13:23passing away and when the study of them
1:13:25only tends to check their passing and
1:13:27keep them with us
1:13:29why give time and attention to things
1:13:31which are being removed by evolutionary
1:13:33growth when you can hasten their removal
1:13:35only by promoting The evolutionary
1:13:37growth as far as your part of it goes
1:13:40no matter how horrible in seeming may be
1:13:42the conditions in certain countries
1:13:44sections or places you waste your time
1:13:47and destroy your own chances by
1:13:49considering them
1:13:51you should interest yourself in the
1:13:53worlds becoming rich
1:13:55think of the riches the world is coming
1:13:57into instead of the poverty it is
1:13:59growing out of and bear in mind that the
1:14:01only way in which you can assist the
1:14:03world in growing riches by growing Rich
1:14:05yourself through the creative method not
1:14:07the competitive one
1:14:09give your attention holy to riches
1:14:11ignore poverty
1:14:13whenever you think or speak of those who
1:14:15are poor think and speak of them as
1:14:17those who are becoming rich as those who
1:14:20are to be congratulated rather than
1:14:22pitted
1:14:23then they and others will catch the
1:14:25inspiration and begin to search for the
1:14:27way out
1:14:28because I say that you are to give your
1:14:31whole time and mind and thought to
1:14:32riches it does not follow that you are
1:14:34to be sordid or mean
1:14:36to become really rich is the noblest aim
1:14:39you can have in life for it includes
1:14:41everything else
1:14:43on the competitive plane the struggle to
1:14:45get rich is a Godless Scramble for power
1:14:48over other men but when we come into the
1:14:50creative mind all this is changed
1:14:53all that is possible in the way of
1:14:55greatness and soul unfoldment of service
1:14:57and lofty Endeavor comes by way of
1:15:00getting rich all is made possible by the
1:15:03use of things
1:15:04if you lack for physical health you will
1:15:07find that the attainment of it is
1:15:08conditional and you're getting rich
1:15:10only those who are emancipated from
1:15:13Financial worry and who have the means
1:15:15to live a Carefree existence and follow
1:15:17hygienic practices can have and retain
1:15:19health
1:15:21moral and spiritual greatness is
1:15:23Possible only to those who are above the
1:15:25competitive battle for existence and
1:15:28only those who are becoming rich on the
1:15:29plane of creative thought are free from
1:15:31the degrading influences of competition
1:15:34if your heart is set on domestic
1:15:36happiness remember that love flourishes
1:15:39best where there is refinement a high
1:15:41level of thought and freedom from
1:15:43corrupting influences and these are to
1:15:45be found only where riches are attained
1:15:47by the exercise of creative thought
1:15:49without Strife or rivalry
1:15:52you can aim at nothing so great or Noble
1:15:55I repeat as to become rich and you must
1:15:58fix your attention upon your mental
1:16:00picture of riches to the exclusion of
1:16:02all that may tend to dim or obscure the
1:16:04vision
1:16:05you must learn to see the underlying
1:16:08truth in all things you must see beneath
1:16:10all seemingly wrong conditions the great
1:16:13one life ever moving forward toward
1:16:15Fuller expression and more complete
1:16:17happiness
1:16:18it is the truth that there is no such
1:16:20thing as poverty that there is only
1:16:22wealth
1:16:23some people remain in poverty because
1:16:26they are ignorant of the fact that there
1:16:27is wealth for them and these can best be
1:16:30taught by showing them the way to
1:16:31affluence in your own person and
1:16:33practice
1:16:34others are poor because while they feel
1:16:37that there is a way out they are too
1:16:39intellectually indolent to put forth the
1:16:41mental effort necessary to find that way
1:16:43and by travel it and for these the very
1:16:46best thing you can do is to arouse their
1:16:48Desire by showing them the happiness
1:16:50that comes from being rightly rich
1:16:52others still are poor because while they
1:16:55have some notion of science they have
1:16:57become so swamped and lost in a maze of
1:17:00metaphysical and occult theories that
1:17:01they do not know which road to take
1:17:04they try a mixture of many systems and
1:17:07fail in all
1:17:09for these again the very best thing to
1:17:12do is to show the right way in your own
1:17:14person and practice an ounce of doing
1:17:16things is worth a pound of theorizing
1:17:19the very best thing you can do for the
1:17:21whole world is to make the most of
1:17:23yourself
1:17:24you can serve God and man in no more
1:17:27effective way than by getting rich that
1:17:29is if you get rich by the creative
1:17:31method and not by the competitive one
1:17:34another thing
1:17:36we assert that this book gives in detail
1:17:39the principles of the science of getting
1:17:40rich and if that is true you do not need
1:17:43to read any other book upon the subject
1:17:46this may sound narrow and egotistical
1:17:49but consider there is no more scientific
1:17:51method of computation in mathematics
1:17:54than by addition subtraction
1:17:55multiplication and division no other
1:17:58method is possible
1:18:00there can be but one shortest distance
1:18:03between two points
1:18:05there is only one way to think
1:18:07scientifically and that is to think in
1:18:09the way that leads by the most direct
1:18:11and simple route to the goal
1:18:13no man has yet formulated a briefer or
1:18:16less complex system than the one set
1:18:19forth herein it has been stripped of all
1:18:21non-essentials
1:18:23when you commence on this lay all others
1:18:25aside put them out of your mind
1:18:27altogether
1:18:28read this book every day keep it with
1:18:31you commit it to memory and do not think
1:18:34about other systems and theories
1:18:37if you do you will begin to have doubts
1:18:39and to be uncertain in wavering in your
1:18:42thought and then you will begin to make
1:18:43failures
1:18:45after you have made good and become rich
1:18:47you may study other systems as much as
1:18:49you please but until you are quite sure
1:18:52that you have gained what you want do
1:18:54not read anything on this line but this
1:18:56book unless it be the authors mentioned
1:18:58in the preface
1:18:59and read only the most optimistic
1:19:01comments on the world's news those in
1:19:04harmony with your picture
1:19:06also postpone your investigations into
1:19:09the occult
1:19:10do not dabble in theosophy spiritualism
1:19:13or Kindred studies
1:19:15it is very likely that the dead still
1:19:18live and are near but if they are let
1:19:20them alone mind your own business
1:19:23wherever the spirits of the Dead may be
1:19:25they have their own work to do and their
1:19:28own problems to solve and we have no
1:19:30right to interfere with them
1:19:32we cannot help them and it is very
1:19:35doubtful whether they can help us or
1:19:37whether we have any right to trespass
1:19:39upon their time if they can
1:19:41Let the dead and the Hereafter alone and
1:19:44solve your own problem get rich
1:19:47if you begin to mix with the occult you
1:19:49will start mental cross currents which
1:19:51will surely bring your hopes to
1:19:52shipwreck
1:19:54now this and the preceding chapters have
1:19:56brought us to the following statement of
1:19:58basic facts there is a thinking stuff
1:20:00from which all things are made and which
1:20:03in its original state permeates
1:20:05penetrates and fills the interspaces of
1:20:08the universe
1:20:09a thought in this substance produces the
1:20:12thing that is imaged by the thought
1:20:15man can form things in his thought and
1:20:17by impressing his thought upon formless
1:20:20substance can cause the thing he thinks
1:20:22about to be created
1:20:24in order to do this man must pass from
1:20:27the competitive to the creative mind he
1:20:29must form a clear mental picture of the
1:20:31things he wants and hold this picture in
1:20:33His Thoughts with the fixed purpose to
1:20:35get what he wants and the unwavering
1:20:37faith that he does get what he wants
1:20:39closing his mind against all that may
1:20:41tend to shake his purpose dim his vision
1:20:43or quench his faith
1:20:46and in addition to all this we shall now
1:20:48see that he must live and act in a
1:20:51certain way
1:20:54chapter 11.
1:20:56acting in a certain way
1:20:58thought is the creative power or the
1:21:01impelling force which causes the
1:21:02creative power to act thinking in a
1:21:05certain way will bring riches to you but
1:21:07you must not rely upon thought alone
1:21:09paying no attention to personal action
1:21:12that is the rock upon which many
1:21:14otherwise scientific metaphysical
1:21:16thinkers meet shipwreck the failure to
1:21:19connect thought with personal action
1:21:21we have not yet reached the stage of
1:21:23development even supposing such a stage
1:21:26to be possible in which man can create
1:21:28directly from formless substance without
1:21:30Nature's processes or the work of human
1:21:33hands man must not only think but his
1:21:36personal action must supplement his
1:21:38thought
1:21:39I thought you can cause the gold in the
1:21:41hearts of the mountains to be impelled
1:21:43toward you but it will not mine itself
1:21:45refine itself coin itself into double
1:21:48eagles and come rolling along the road
1:21:50seeking its way into your pocket
1:21:53under the impelling power of the Supreme
1:21:55Spirit men's Affairs will be so ordered
1:21:57that someone will be led to mine the
1:21:59Gold for you other men's business
1:22:01transactions will be so directed that
1:22:03the gold will be brought toward you and
1:22:05you must so arrange your own business
1:22:07Affairs that you may be able to receive
1:22:09it when it comes to you
1:22:11your thought makes all things animate
1:22:13and inanimate work to bring you what you
1:22:16want but your personal activity must be
1:22:18such that you can rightly receive what
1:22:20you want when it reaches you
1:22:22you are not to take it as Charity nor to
1:22:25steal it you must give every man more
1:22:27in-use value than he gives you in cash
1:22:29value
1:22:30the scientific use of thought consists
1:22:33in forming a clear and distinct mental
1:22:35image of what you want in holding fast
1:22:37to the purpose to get what you want and
1:22:39in realizing with grateful faith that
1:22:41you do get what you want
1:22:43do not try to project your thought in
1:22:46any mysterious or occult way with the
1:22:49idea of having it go out and do things
1:22:51for you that is wasted effort and will
1:22:53weaken your power to think with sanity
1:22:56the action of thought in getting rich is
1:22:58fully explained in the preceding
1:23:00chapters your faith and purpose
1:23:02positively impress your vision upon
1:23:04formless substance which has the same
1:23:06desire for more life that you have and
1:23:09this Vision received from you sets all
1:23:11the creative forces at work in and
1:23:13through their regular channels of action
1:23:15but directed toward you
1:23:17it is not your part to guide or
1:23:19supervise the creative process all you
1:23:22have to do with that is to retain your
1:23:24vision stick to your purpose and
1:23:26maintain your faith and gratitude
1:23:28but you must act in a certain way so
1:23:31that you can appropriate what is yours
1:23:33when it comes to you so that you can
1:23:35meet the things you have in your picture
1:23:36and put them in their proper places as
1:23:39they arrive
1:23:40you can really see the truth of this
1:23:43when things reach you they will be in
1:23:45the hands of other men who will ask an
1:23:47equivalent for them
1:23:49and you can only get what is yours by
1:23:51giving the other man what is his
1:23:54your pocketbook is not going to be
1:23:56transformed into a fortunata's purse
1:23:58which shall be always full of money
1:24:00without effort on your part
1:24:02this is the crucial point in the science
1:24:05of getting rich right here where thought
1:24:07and personal action must be combined
1:24:10there are very many people who
1:24:12consciously or unconsciously set the
1:24:15creative forces in action by the
1:24:17strength and Persistence of their
1:24:18desires but who remain poor because they
1:24:21do not provide for the reception of the
1:24:23thing they want when it comes
1:24:25by thought the thing you want is brought
1:24:27to you by action you receive it
1:24:30whatever your action is to be it is
1:24:33evident that you must act now
1:24:35you cannot act in the past and it is
1:24:37essential to the clearness of your
1:24:39mental Vision that you dismiss the past
1:24:41from your mind
1:24:43you cannot act in the future for the
1:24:45future is not here yet
1:24:47and you cannot tell how you will want to
1:24:49act in any future contingency until the
1:24:52contingency has arrived
1:24:54because you are not in the right
1:24:55business or the right environment now do
1:24:58not think that you must postpone action
1:25:00until you get into the right business or
1:25:02environment
1:25:04and do not spend time in the
1:25:05present-taking thought as to the best
1:25:07course in possible future emergencies
1:25:09have faith in your ability to meet any
1:25:12emergency when it arrives
1:25:14if you act in the present with your mind
1:25:16on the future your present action will
1:25:18be with a divided mind and will not be
1:25:20effective
1:25:22put your whole mind into present action
1:25:25do not give your creative impulse to
1:25:27original substance and then sit down and
1:25:29wait for results if you do you will
1:25:32never get them
1:25:33act now
1:25:35there is never any time but now and
1:25:38there never will be any time but now
1:25:40if you are ever to begin to make ready
1:25:43for the reception of what you want you
1:25:45must begin now
1:25:46and your action whatever it is must most
1:25:49likely be in your present business or
1:25:51employment and must be upon the persons
1:25:54and things in your present environment
1:25:56you cannot act where you are not you
1:25:58cannot act where you have been and you
1:26:00cannot act where you are going to be you
1:26:03can act only Where You Are
1:26:05do not bother as to whether yesterday's
1:26:07work was well done or all done do
1:26:09today's work well
1:26:11do not try to do tomorrow's work now
1:26:13there will be plenty of time to do that
1:26:16when you get to it
1:26:17do not try buy a cult or mystical means
1:26:20to act on people or things that are out
1:26:22of your reach
1:26:24do not wait for a change of environment
1:26:26before you act get a change of
1:26:29environment by action
1:26:31you can so act upon the environment in
1:26:33which you are now as to cause yourself
1:26:35to be transferred to a better
1:26:37environment
1:26:38hold with faith and purpose the vision
1:26:40of yourself in the better environment
1:26:42but act upon your present environment
1:26:44with all your heart and with all your
1:26:46strength and with all your mind
1:26:49do not spend any time in daydreaming or
1:26:52Castle Building hold to the One Vision
1:26:54of what you want and act now
1:26:57do not cast about seeking some new thing
1:26:59to do or some strange unusual or
1:27:02remarkable action to perform as a first
1:27:04step toward getting rich
1:27:06it is probable that your actions at
1:27:09least for some time to come will be
1:27:11those you have been performing for some
1:27:12time past but you are to begin now to
1:27:15perform these actions in a certain way
1:27:17which will surely make you rich
1:27:20if you are engaged in some business and
1:27:22feel that it is not the right one for
1:27:24you do not wait until you get into the
1:27:26right business before you begin to act
1:27:29do not feel discouraged or sit down and
1:27:32lament because you are misplaced
1:27:34no man was ever so misplaced but that he
1:27:37could not find the right place and no
1:27:39man ever became so involved in the wrong
1:27:41business but that he could get into the
1:27:43right business
1:27:45hold the vision of yourself in the right
1:27:47business with the purpose to get into it
1:27:49and the faith that you will get into it
1:27:51and are getting into it but act in your
1:27:54present business
1:27:55use your present business as the means
1:27:58of getting a better one and use your
1:28:00present environment as the means of
1:28:01getting into a better one
1:28:03your vision of the right business if
1:28:05held with faith and purpose will cause
1:28:08the Supreme to move the right business
1:28:09toward you and your action if performed
1:28:12in a certain way will cause you to move
1:28:14toward the business
1:28:16if you are an employee or wage earner
1:28:19and feel that you must change places in
1:28:21order to get what you want do not
1:28:23project your thought into space and rely
1:28:25upon it to get you another job
1:28:28it will probably fail to do so
1:28:30hold the vision of yourself in the job
1:28:33you want while you act with faith and
1:28:35purpose on the job you have and you will
1:28:37certainly get the job you want
1:28:39your vision and faith will set the
1:28:42creative force in motion to bring it
1:28:43toward you and your action will cause
1:28:45the forces in your own environment to
1:28:47move you toward the place you want
1:28:50in closing this chapter we will add
1:28:52another statement to our syllabus there
1:28:54is a thinking stuff from which all
1:28:56things are made and which in its
1:28:58original state permeates penetrates and
1:29:01fills the interspaces of the universe
1:29:04a thought in this substance produces the
1:29:07thing that is imaged by the thought
1:29:09man can form things in his thought and
1:29:12by impressing his thought upon formless
1:29:15substance can cause the thing he thinks
1:29:17about to be created
1:29:19in order to do this man must pass from
1:29:22the competitive to the creative mind he
1:29:24must form a clear mental picture of the
1:29:26things he wants and hold this picture in
1:29:28His Thoughts with the fixed purpose to
1:29:30get what he wants and the unwavering
1:29:32faith that he does get what he wants
1:29:34closing his mind to all that may tend to
1:29:36shake his purpose dim his vision or
1:29:39quench his faith
1:29:40that he may receive what he wants when
1:29:42it comes man must act now upon the
1:29:45people and things in his present
1:29:46environment
1:29:49chapter 12.
1:29:51efficient action
1:29:53you must use your thought as directed in
1:29:56previous chapters and begin to do what
1:29:58you can do where you are and you must do
1:30:00all that you can do where you are
1:30:03you can advance only be being larger
1:30:05than your present place and no man is
1:30:07larger than his present Place who leaves
1:30:09undone any of the work pertaining to
1:30:11that place
1:30:12the world is Advanced only by those who
1:30:15more than fill their present places
1:30:17If no man quite filled his present place
1:30:20you can see that there must be a going
1:30:22backward in everything
1:30:24those who do not quite fill their
1:30:26present places are dead weight upon
1:30:28Society government Commerce and Industry
1:30:31they must be carried Along by others at
1:30:34a great expense
1:30:35the progress of the world is
1:30:37only by those who do not fill the places
1:30:40they are holding they belong to a former
1:30:42age and a lower stage or plane of life
1:30:44and their tendency is toward
1:30:46degeneration
1:30:48no Society could Advance if every man
1:30:51was smaller than his place social
1:30:53evolution is Guided by the law of
1:30:55physical and mental evolution
1:30:57in the animal world evolution is caused
1:31:00by excess of life
1:31:02when an organism has more life than can
1:31:04be expressed in the functions of its own
1:31:06plane it develops the organs of a higher
1:31:09plane and a new species is originated
1:31:13there never would have been new species
1:31:14had there not been organisms which more
1:31:16than filled their places
1:31:18the law is exactly the same for you
1:31:21you're getting rich depends upon your
1:31:23applying this principle to your own
1:31:25affairs
1:31:26every day is either a successful day or
1:31:29a day of failure and it is the
1:31:31successful days which get you what you
1:31:33want
1:31:34if every day is a failure you can never
1:31:36get rich while if every day is a success
1:31:39you cannot fail to get rich
1:31:42if there is something that may be done
1:31:43today and you do not do it you have
1:31:46failed and so far as that thing is
1:31:48concerned and the consequences may be
1:31:50more disastrous than you imagine
1:31:53you cannot foresee the results of even
1:31:55the most trivial act you do not know the
1:31:58workings of all the forces that have
1:31:59been set moving in your behalf
1:32:02much may be depending on your doing some
1:32:04simple act it may be the very thing
1:32:06which is to open the door of opportunity
1:32:08to very great possibilities
1:32:11you can never know all the combinations
1:32:13which Supreme intelligence is making for
1:32:15you in the world of things and of things
1:32:17and of human Affairs your neglect or
1:32:20failure to do some small thing may cause
1:32:22a long delay in getting what you want
1:32:25do every day all that can be done that
1:32:28day
1:32:29there is however a limitation or
1:32:32qualification of the above that you must
1:32:34take into account
1:32:35you are not to overwork nor to rush
1:32:38blindly into your business in the effort
1:32:40to do the greatest possible number of
1:32:42things in the shortest possible time
1:32:44you are not to try to do tomorrow's work
1:32:46today nor to do a week's work in a day
1:32:50it is really not the number of things
1:32:52you do but the efficiency of each
1:32:54separate action that counts
1:32:56Every Act is in itself either a success
1:32:59or a failure
1:33:01Every Act is in itself either effective
1:33:04or inefficient
1:33:06every inefficient Act is a failure and
1:33:09if you spend your life in doing
1:33:10inefficient acts your whole life will be
1:33:13a failure
1:33:14the more things you do the worse for you
1:33:17if all your acts are inefficient ones
1:33:20on the other hand every efficient Act is
1:33:23a success in itself and if every Act of
1:33:25your life is an efficient one your whole
1:33:28life must be a success
1:33:30because of failure is doing too many
1:33:32things in an inefficient Manner and not
1:33:35doing enough things in an efficient
1:33:36manner
1:33:37you will see that it is a self-evident
1:33:39proposition that if you do not do any
1:33:42inefficient acts and if you do a
1:33:44sufficient number of efficient acts you
1:33:46will become rich
1:33:47if now it is possible for you to make
1:33:50each Act an efficient one you see again
1:33:52that the getting of riches is reduced to
1:33:54an exact science like mathematics
1:33:58the matter turns then on the questions
1:34:00whether you can make each separate act a
1:34:03success in itself
1:34:04and this you can certainly do
1:34:07you can make each Act a success because
1:34:10all power is working with you and all
1:34:12power cannot fail
1:34:14power is at your service and to make
1:34:17each Act efficient you have only to put
1:34:19Power into it
1:34:20every action is either strong or weak
1:34:23and when everyone is strong you are
1:34:25acting in a certain way which will make
1:34:27you rich
1:34:28Every Act can be made strong and
1:34:30efficient by holding your vision while
1:34:32you are doing it and putting the whole
1:34:34power of your faith and purpose into it
1:34:37it is at this point that the people fail
1:34:39who separate mental power from personal
1:34:41action
1:34:43they use the power of Mind in one place
1:34:45and at one time and they act in another
1:34:47pace and at another time
1:34:50so their acts are not successful in
1:34:52themselves too many of them are
1:34:54inefficient
1:34:55but if all power goes into Every Act no
1:34:58matter how commonplace Every Act will be
1:35:01a success in itself and as in the nature
1:35:03of things every success opens the way to
1:35:06other successes your progress toward
1:35:08what you want and the progress of what
1:35:10you want toward you will become
1:35:11increasingly rapid
1:35:13remember that successful action is
1:35:16cumulative in its results
1:35:18since the desire for more life is
1:35:20inherent in all things when a man begins
1:35:23to move toward larger life more things
1:35:25attach themselves to him and the
1:35:27influence of his desire is multiplied
1:35:30do every day all that you can do that
1:35:33day and do each Act in an efficient
1:35:35manner
1:35:36in saying that you must hold your vision
1:35:38while you are doing each act however
1:35:40trivial or commonplace I do not mean to
1:35:43say that it is necessary at all times to
1:35:45see the vision distinctly to its
1:35:47smallest details
1:35:49it should be the work of your leisure
1:35:51hours to use your imagination on the
1:35:53details of your vision and to
1:35:55contemplate them until they are firmly
1:35:56fixed upon memory
1:35:58if you wish Speedy results spend
1:36:01practically all your spare time in this
1:36:03practice
1:36:04by continuous contemplation you will get
1:36:06the picture of what you want even to the
1:36:09smallest details so firmly fixed upon
1:36:11your mind and so completely transferred
1:36:14to the mind of formless substance that
1:36:16in your working hours you need only to
1:36:18mentally refer to the picture to
1:36:19stimulate your faith and purpose and
1:36:22cause your best effort to be put forth
1:36:24contemplate your picture in your leisure
1:36:27hours until your Consciousness is so
1:36:29full of it that you can grasp it
1:36:30instantly
1:36:32you will become so enthused with its
1:36:34bright promises that the mere thought of
1:36:36it will call forth the strongest
1:36:37energies of your whole being
1:36:40let us again repeat our syllabus and by
1:36:42slightly changing the closing statements
1:36:44bring it to the point we have now
1:36:46reached
1:36:47there is a thinking stuff from which all
1:36:49things are made and which in its

1:37:32getting into the right business
1:37:35success in any particular business
1:37:37Depends for one thing upon your
1:37:39possessing in a well-developed state the
1:37:41faculties required in that business
1:37:44without good musical faculty no one can
1:37:47succeed as a teacher of music without
1:37:49well-developed mechanical faculties no
1:37:51one can achieve great success in any of
1:37:54the mechanical trades without tact and
1:37:56the commercial faculties no one can
1:37:58succeed in Mercantile Pursuits
1:38:00but to possess in a well-developed state
1:38:03the faculties required in your
1:38:05particular vocation does not ensure
1:38:07getting rich
1:38:08there are musicians who have remarkable
1:38:10talent and who yet remain poor there are
1:38:13blacksmiths carpenters and so on who
1:38:16have excellent mechanical ability but
1:38:18who do not get rich and there are
1:38:20Merchants with good faculties for
1:38:21dealing with men who nevertheless fail
1:38:24the different faculties are tools it is
1:38:27essential to have good tools but it is
1:38:29also essential that the tools should be
1:38:31used in the right way
1:38:33one man can take a sharp saw a square a
1:38:37good plane and so on and build a
1:38:39handsome article of furniture another
1:38:41man can take the same tools and set to
1:38:44work to duplicate the article but his
1:38:46production will be a botch
1:38:48he does not know how to use good Tools
1:38:50in a successful way
1:38:52the various faculties of your mind are
1:38:55the tools with which you must do the
1:38:57work which is to make you rich it will
1:38:59be easier for you to succeed if you get
1:39:01into a business for which you are well
1:39:02equipped with mental tools
1:39:04generally speaking you will do best in
1:39:07that business which will use your
1:39:09strongest faculties the one for which
1:39:11you are naturally best fitted
1:39:13but there are limitations to this
1:39:15statement also
1:39:17no man should regard his vocation as
1:39:20being irrevocably fixed by the
1:39:21Tendencies with which he was born
1:39:24you can get rich in any business for if
1:39:27you have not the right talent for you
1:39:28can develop that Talent it merely means
1:39:31that you will have to make your tools as
1:39:32you go along instead of confining
1:39:34yourself to the use of those with which
1:39:36you were born
1:39:38it will be easier for you to succeed in
1:39:40a vocation for which you already have
1:39:42the talents in a well-developed state
1:39:44but you can succeed in any vocation for
1:39:46you can develop any rudimentary talent
1:39:48and there is no Talent of which you have
1:39:50not at least the rudiment
1:39:52you will get rich most easily in point
1:39:55of effort if you do that for which you
1:39:57are best fitted but you will get rich
1:39:59most satisfactorily if you do that which
1:40:01you want to do
1:40:02doing what you want to do is life and
1:40:05there is no real satisfaction in living
1:40:07if we are compelled to be forever doing
1:40:09something which we do not like to do and
1:40:11can never do what we want to do
1:40:14and it is certain that you can do what
1:40:15you want to do the desire to do it is
1:40:18proof that you have within you the power
1:40:19which can do it
1:40:21desire is a manifestation of power
1:40:24the desire to play music is the power
1:40:27which can play music seeking expression
1:40:29and development the desire to invent
1:40:31Mechanical Devices is the mechanical
1:40:33Talent seeking expression and
1:40:35development
1:40:37where there is no power either developed
1:40:39or undeveloped to do a thing there is
1:40:42never any desire to do that thing and
1:40:44where there is strong desire to do a
1:40:46thing it is certain proof that the power
1:40:48to do it is strong and only requires to
1:40:50be developed and applied in the right
1:40:52way
1:40:53all things else being equal it is best
1:40:56to select the business for which you
1:40:58have the best developed talent but if
1:41:00you have a strong desire to engage in
1:41:02any particular line of work you should
1:41:04select the work as the ultimate end at
1:41:06which you aim
1:41:07you can do what you want to do and it is
1:41:10your right and privilege to follow the
1:41:12business or avocation which will be most
1:41:14congenial and pleasant
1:41:16you are not obliged to do what you do
1:41:18not like to do and should not do it
1:41:20except as a means to bring you to the
1:41:22doing of the thing you want to do
1:41:24if there are past mistakes whose
1:41:26consequences have placed you in an
1:41:28undesirable business or environment you
1:41:30may be obliged for some time to do what
1:41:32you do not like to do but you can make
1:41:34the doing of it Pleasant by knowing that
1:41:36it is making it possible for you to come
1:41:38to the doing of what you want to do
1:41:40if you feel that you are not in the
1:41:42right vocation do not act too hastily in
1:41:45trying to get into another one
1:41:47the best way generally to change
1:41:50business or environment is by growth
1:41:53do not be afraid to make a sudden and
1:41:55radical change if the opportunity is
1:41:57presented and you feel after careful
1:41:59consideration that it is the right
1:42:01opportunity but never take sudden or
1:42:03radical action when you are in doubt as
1:42:05to the wisdom of doing so
1:42:07there is never any hurry on the creative
1:42:10plane and there is no lack of
1:42:12opportunity
1:42:13when you get out of the competitive mind
1:42:15you will understand that you never need
1:42:17to act hastily
1:42:18no one else is going to beat you to the
1:42:21thing you want to do there is enough for
1:42:23all
1:42:24if one space is taken another and a
1:42:26better one will be open for you a little
1:42:28farther on there is plenty of time
1:42:31when you are in doubt wait
1:42:34fall back on the contemplation of your
1:42:36vision and increase your faith and
1:42:38purpose and by all means in times of
1:42:41doubt and indecision cultivate gratitude
1:42:44a day or two spent in contemplating the
1:42:47vision of what you want and in Earnest
1:42:49Thanksgiving that you are getting it
1:42:50will bring your mind into such close
1:42:52relationship with the Supreme that you
1:42:54will make no mistake when you do act
1:42:57there is a mind which knows all there is
1:42:59to know and you can come into close
1:43:01Unity with this Mind by faith and the
1:43:04purpose to advance in life if you have
1:43:06deep gratitude
1:43:08mistakes come from acting hastily or
1:43:10from acting in fear or doubt or in
1:43:13forgetfulness of the right motive which
1:43:15is more life to all and less to none
1:43:18as you go on in a certain way
1:43:20opportunities will come to you in
1:43:22increasing number and you will need to
1:43:24be very steady in your faith and purpose
1:43:26and to keep in close touch with the all
1:43:28Mind by reverent gratitude
1:43:31do all that you can do in a perfect
1:43:33manner every day but do it without haste
1:43:36worry or fear
1:43:38go as fast as you can but never hurry
1:43:41remember that in a moment you begin to
1:43:44hurry you cease to be a Creator and
1:43:46become a competitor you drop back upon
1:43:48the old plane again
1:43:50whenever you find yourself hurrying call
1:43:52a halt fix your attention on the mental
1:43:54image of the thing you want and begin to
1:43:57give thanks that you are getting it
1:43:59the exercise of gratitude will never
1:44:01fail to strengthen your faith and renew
1:44:04your purpose
1:44:07chapter 14.
1:44:09the impression of increase
1:44:12whether you change your vocation or not
1:44:14your actions for the present must be
1:44:16those pertaining to the business in
1:44:18which you are now engaged
1:44:20you can get into the business you want
1:44:22by making constructive use of the
1:44:24business you are already established in
1:44:25by doing your daily work in a certain
1:44:28way
1:44:29and in so far as your business consists
1:44:31in dealing with other men whether
1:44:33personally or by letter the key thought
1:44:36of all your efforts must be to convey to
1:44:38their minds the impression of increase
1:44:40increases what all men and all women are
1:44:43seeking it is the urge of the formless
1:44:45intelligence within them seeking Fuller
1:44:48expression
1:44:49the desire for increase is inherent in
1:44:51all nature it is the fundamental impulse
1:44:54of the universe
1:44:55all human activities are based on the
1:44:58desire for increase people are seeking
1:45:00more food more clothes better shelter
1:45:03more luxury more Beauty more knowledge
1:45:06more pleasure increase in something more
1:45:08life
1:45:10every living thing is under this
1:45:12necessity for continuous advancement
1:45:14where increase of Life ceases
1:45:16dissolution and death set in at once
1:45:19man instinctively knows this and hence
1:45:22he is forever seeking more
1:45:24this law of Perpetual increase is set
1:45:27forth by Jesus in the parable of the
1:45:29talents only those who gain more retain
1:45:31any from him who hath not shall be taken
1:45:34away even that which he hath
1:45:36the normal desire for increased wealth
1:45:38is not an evil or a reprehensible thing
1:45:41it is simply the desire for more
1:45:43Abundant Life it is aspiration
1:45:46and because it is the deepest Instinct
1:45:48of their Natures all men and women are
1:45:51attracted to him who can give them more
1:45:52of the means of life
1:45:54in following the certain way as

1:45:59getting continuous increase for yourself
1:46:00and you are giving it to all with whom
1:46:02you deal
1:46:04you are a creative center from which
1:46:06increase is given off to all
1:46:08be sure of this and convey Assurance of
1:46:11the fact to every man woman and child
1:46:14with whom you come in contact
1:46:16no matter how small the transaction even
1:46:19if it be only the selling of a stick of
1:46:21candy to a little child put into it the
1:46:24thought of increase and make sure that
1:46:26the customer is impressed with the
1:46:27thought
1:46:28convey the impression of advancement
1:46:30with everything you do so that all
1:46:32people shall receive the impression that
1:46:34you are an advancing man and that you
1:46:36advance all who deal with you
1:46:39even to the people whom you meet in a
1:46:41social way without any thought of
1:46:43business and to whom you do not try to
1:46:45sell anything give the thought of
1:46:46increase
1:46:48you can convey this impression by
1:46:50holding the unshakable faith that you
1:46:52yourself are in the way of increase and
1:46:55by letting this Faith Inspire fill and
1:46:57permeate every action
1:47:00do everything that you do in The Firm
1:47:02conviction that you are an advancing
1:47:03personality and that you are giving
1:47:05advancement to everybody
1:47:07feel that you are getting rich and that
1:47:09in so doing you are making others rich
1:47:11and conferring benefits on all
1:47:14do not boast or brag of your success or
1:47:17talk about it unnecessarily true faith
1:47:20is never boastful
1:47:22wherever you find a boastful person you
1:47:24find one who is secretly doubtful and
1:47:26Afraid
1:47:28simply feel the faith and let it work
1:47:30out in every transaction let every act
1:47:33and tone and look Express The Quiet
1:47:35assurance that you are getting rich that
1:47:37you are already rich
1:47:39words will not be necessary to
1:47:41communicate this feeling to others they
1:47:43will feel the sense of increase when in
1:47:45your presence and will be attracted to
1:47:47you again
1:47:49you must so impress others that they
1:47:51will feel that in associating with you
1:47:53they will get increase for themselves
1:47:56see that you give them a use value
1:47:57greater than the cash value you are
1:47:59taking from them
1:48:01take an honest pride in doing this and
1:48:03let everybody know it and you will have
1:48:05no lack of customers
1:48:07people will go where they are given
1:48:09increase and the Supreme which desires
1:48:12increase in all and which knows all will
1:48:15move toward you men and women who have
1:48:16never heard of you
1:48:18your business will increase rapidly and
1:48:21you will be surprised at the unexpected
1:48:22benefits which will come to you
1:48:25you will be able from day to day to make
1:48:27larger combinations secure greater
1:48:29advantages and to go on into a more
1:48:32congenial vocation if you desire to do
1:48:34so
1:48:35but doing thing all this you must never
1:48:38lose sight of your vision of what you
1:48:39want or your faith and purpose to get
1:48:42what you want
1:48:43let me here give you another word of
1:48:45caution in regard to motives
1:48:48Beware of the Insidious temptation to
1:48:50seek for power over other men
1:48:53nothing is so pleasant to the unformed
1:48:55or partially developed mind as the
1:48:57exercise of power or dominion over
1:48:59others
1:49:01the desire to rule for selfish
1:49:03gratification has been the curse of the
1:49:05world
1:49:06for countless ages Kings and Lords have
1:49:08drenched the Earth with blood in their
1:49:10battles to extend their dominions this
1:49:12not to seek more life for all but to get
1:49:15more power for themselves
1:49:17today the main motive in the business
1:49:19and Industrial world is the same men
1:49:22Marshal their armies of dollars and lay
1:49:25waste the lives and hearts of millions
1:49:27in the same mad Scramble for power over
1:49:29others
1:49:30commercial Kings like political kings
1:49:33are inspired by the lust for power
1:49:36Jesus saw in this desire for Mastery the
1:49:39moving impulse of that evil world he
1:49:41sought to overthrow
1:49:43read the 23rd chapter of Matthew and see
1:49:46how he pictures the lust of the
1:49:47Pharisees to be called Master to sit in
1:49:50the high places to domineer over others
1:49:53and to lay burdens on the backs of the
1:49:55less fortunate and note how he Compares
1:49:57this lust for Dominion with the
1:49:59brotherly seeking for the common good to
1:50:01which he calls his disciples
1:50:03look out for the temptation to seek for
1:50:05authority to become a master to be
1:50:08considered as one who is above the
1:50:10common herd to impress others by lavish
1:50:12display and so on
1:50:14the mind that seeks for Mastery over
1:50:17others is the competitive mind and the
1:50:19competitive mind is not the creative one
1:50:22in order to master your environment and
1:50:25your destiny it is not at all necessary
1:50:27that you should rule over your fellow
1:50:29men and indeed when you fall into the
1:50:31world struggle for the high places you
1:50:33begin to be conquered by faith and
1:50:35environment and you're getting rich
1:50:37becomes a matter of chance and
1:50:38speculation
1:50:40Beware of the competitive mind
1:50:43no better statement of the principle of
1:50:45creative action can be formulated than
1:50:47the favorite Declaration of the late
1:50:49Golden Rule Jones of Toledo what I want
1:50:52for myself I want for everybody
1:50:56chapter 15.
1:50:58the advancing man
1:51:00what I have said in the last chapter
1:51:02applies as well to the professional man
1:51:04and a wage earner as to the man who is
1:51:07engaged in Mercantile business
1:51:09no matter whether you are a physician a
1:51:12teacher or a clergyman if you can give
1:51:14increase of life to others and make them
1:51:16sensible of the fact they will be
1:51:18attracted to you and you will get rich
1:51:21The Physician who holds the vision of
1:51:23himself as a great and successful healer
1:51:25and who works toward the complete
1:51:27realization of that Vision with faith
1:51:29and purpose as described in former
1:51:31chapters will come into such close touch
1:51:33with the source of life that he will be
1:51:35phenomenally successful patience will
1:51:37come to him in throngs
1:51:39no one has a greater opportunity to
1:51:42carry into effect the teaching of this
1:51:43book than the practitioner of medicine
1:51:45it does not matter to which of the
1:51:47various schools he may belong for the
1:51:50principle of healing is common to all of
1:51:52them and may be reached by all alike
1:51:55the advancing man in medicine who holds
1:51:57to a clear mental image of himself as
1:51:59successful and who obeys the laws of
1:52:02Faith purpose and gratitude will cure
1:52:05every curable case he undertakes no
1:52:07matter what remedies he may use
1:52:10in the field of religion the world cries
1:52:12out for the clergyman who can teach his
1:52:14hearers the true science of Abundant
1:52:16Life
1:52:17he who Masters the details of the
1:52:20science of getting rich together with
1:52:22the Allied Sciences of being well of
1:52:24being great and of winning love and who
1:52:27teaches these details from the pulpit
1:52:28will never lack for a congregation
1:52:31this is the gospel that the world needs
1:52:34it will give increase of life and men
1:52:36will hear it gladly and will give
1:52:38liberal support to the man who brings it
1:52:40to them
1:52:42what is now needed is a demonstration of
1:52:44the science of life from the pulpit
1:52:46we want preachers who can not only tell
1:52:49us how but who in their own persons will
1:52:51show us how
1:52:53we need the preacher who will himself be
1:52:55rich healthy great and beloved to teach
1:52:58us how to attain to these things and
1:53:00when he comes he will find innumerous
1:53:02and loyal following
1:53:04the same is true of the teacher who can
1:53:06Inspire the children with the faith and
1:53:08purpose of the advancing life
1:53:11he will never be out of a job
1:53:14and any teacher who has this faith and
1:53:16purpose can give it to his pupils he
1:53:18cannot help giving it to them if it is
1:53:20part of his own life and practice
1:53:23what is true of the teacher preacher and
1:53:25physician is true of the lawyer dentist
1:53:27real estate man insurance agent of
1:53:31everybody
1:53:32the combined mental and personal action
1:53:34I have described is infallible it cannot
1:53:37fail
1:53:38every man and woman who follows these
1:53:41instructions steadily perseveringly and
1:53:43to the letter will get rich
1:53:46the law of the increase of life is as
1:53:48mathematically certain in its operation
1:53:50as the law of gravitation getting rich
1:53:53is an exact science
1:53:55the wage owner will find this as true of
1:53:57his case as of any of the others
1:53:59mentioned
1:54:00do not feel that you have no chance to
1:54:02get rich because you are working where
1:54:04there is no visible opportunity for
1:54:06advancement where wages are small and
1:54:09the cost of living High
1:54:11form your clear mental vision of what
1:54:13you want and begin to act with faith and
1:54:15purpose
1:54:17do all the work you can do every day and
1:54:20do each piece of work in a perfectly
1:54:22successful manner put the power of
1:54:24success and the purpose to get rich into
1:54:27everything that you do
1:54:28but do not do this merely with the idea
1:54:31of currying favor with your employer in
1:54:33the hope that he or those above you will
1:54:36see your good work and Advance you it is
1:54:38not likely that they will do so
1:54:41the man who is merely a good Workman
1:54:43filling his place to the very best of
1:54:45his ability and satisfied with that is
1:54:48valuable to his employer and it is not
1:54:51to the employer's interest to promote
1:54:52him he is worth more where he is
1:54:55to secure advancement something more is
1:54:58necessary than to be too large for your
1:55:00place
1:55:01the man who is certain to advance is the
1:55:04one who is too big for his place and who
1:55:06has a clear concept of what he wants to
1:55:08be who knows that he can become what he
1:55:10wants to be and who is determined to be
1:55:12what he wants to be
1:55:14do not try to more than fill your
1:55:16present place with a view to pleasing
1:55:18your employer do it with the idea of
1:55:20advancing yourself
1:55:22hold the faith and purpose of increase
1:55:24during work hours after work hours and
1:55:27before work hours
1:55:29hold it in such a way that every person
1:55:31who comes in contact with you whether
1:55:34Foreman fellow workmen or social
1:55:36acquaintance will feel the power of
1:55:38purpose radiating from you so that
1:55:40everyone will get the sense of
1:55:42advancement and increase from you
1:55:44men will be attracted to you and if
1:55:46there is no possibility for advancement
1:55:48in your present job you will very soon
1:55:51see an opportunity to take another job
1:55:54there is a power which never fails to
1:55:56present opportunity to the advancing man
1:55:58who is moving in obedience to law
1:56:01God cannot help helping you if you act
1:56:04in a certain way he must do so in order
1:56:06to help himself
1:56:08there is nothing in your circumstances
1:56:10or in the industrial situation that can
1:56:12keep you down
1:56:14if you cannot get rich working for the
1:56:16steel trust you can get rich on a
1:56:1810-acre farm and if you begin to move in
1:56:21a certain way you will certainly escape
1:56:22from the clutches of the steel trust and
1:56:25get onto the farm or wherever else you
1:56:27wish to be
1:56:29if a few thousands of its employees
1:56:31would enter upon a certain way the steel
1:56:33trust would soon be in a bad plight it
1:56:36would have to give its working men more
1:56:37opportunity or go out of business
1:56:40nobody has to work for a trust the
1:56:43trusts can keep men in so-called
1:56:45hopeless conditions only so long as
1:56:47there are men who are too ignorant to
1:56:49know of the science of getting rich or
1:56:51too intellectually slothful to practice
1:56:53it
1:56:54begin this way of thinking acting and
1:56:56your faith and purpose will make you
1:56:58quick to see any opportunity to better
1:57:00your condition
1:57:02such opportunities will speedily come
1:57:04for the Supreme working in all and
1:57:07working for you will bring them before
1:57:09you
1:57:10do not wait for an opportunity to be all
1:57:13that you want to be when an opportunity
1:57:15to be more than you are now is presented
1:57:17and you feel impelled toward it take it
1:57:20it will be the first step toward a
1:57:22greater opportunity
1:57:24there is no such thing possible in this
1:57:26universe as a lack of opportunities for
1:57:28the man who is living the advancing life
1:57:31it is inherent in the constitution of
1:57:33the cosmos that all things shall be for
1:57:35him and work together for his good and
1:57:38he must certainly get rich if he acts
1:57:40and thinks in a certain way
1:57:42so let wage earning men and women study
1:57:44this book with great care and enter with
1:57:46confidence upon the course of action it
1:57:49prescribes it will not fail
1:57:53chapter 16.
1:57:55cautions and concluding observations
1:57:58many people will scoff at the idea that
1:58:01there is an exact science of getting
1:58:03rich holding the impression that the
1:58:05supply of wealth is limited they will
1:58:07insist that social and governmental
1:58:09institutions must be changed before even
1:58:12any considerable number of people can
1:58:14acquire a competence
1:58:16but this is not true
1:58:18it is true that existing governments
1:58:20keep the masses in poverty but this is
1:58:23because the masses do not think and act
1:58:25in a certain way
1:58:26if the masses begin to move forward as
1:58:29suggested in this book neither
1:58:31governments nor Industrial Systems can
1:58:33check them all systems must be modified
1:58:35to accommodate the forward movement
1:58:38if the people have the advancing mind
1:58:40have the faith that they can become rich
1:58:42and move forward with the fixed purpose
1:58:45to become rich nothing can possibly keep
1:58:47them in poverty
1:58:49individuals may enter upon a certain way
1:58:51at any time and under any government and
1:58:54make themselves rich and when any
1:58:57considerable number of individuals do so
1:58:59under any government they will cause the
1:59:01system to be so modified as to open the
1:59:03way for others
1:59:05the more men who get rich on the
1:59:07competitive plane the worse for others
1:59:09the more who get rich on the creative
1:59:11plane the better for others
1:59:14the economic salvation of the masses can
1:59:17only be accomplished by getting a large
1:59:19number of people to practice the
1:59:20scientific methods set down in this book
1:59:22and become rich
1:59:24these will show others the way and
1:59:27Inspire them with a desire for real life
1:59:29with the faith that it can be attained
1:59:31and with the purpose to attain it
1:59:34for the present however it is enough to
1:59:37know that neither the government under
1:59:38which you live nor the capitalistic or
1:59:40competitive system of Industry can keep
1:59:43you from getting rich
1:59:44when you enter upon the creative plane
1:59:47of thought you will rise above all these
1:59:49things and become a citizen of another
1:59:50kingdom
1:59:52but remember that your thought must be
1:59:54held Upon A Creative plane you are never
1:59:56for an instant to be betrayed into
1:59:58regarding the supply as limited or into
2:00:00acting on the moral level of competition
2:00:03whenever you do fall into old ways of
2:00:06thought correct yourself instantly for
2:00:08when you are in a competitive mind you
2:00:10have lost the cooperation of the mind of
2:00:12the whole
2:00:13do not spend any time in planning as to
2:00:16how you will meet possible emergencies
2:00:17in the future except as the necessary
2:00:20policies may affect your actions today
2:00:23you are concerned with doing today's
2:00:25work in a perfectly successful Manner
2:00:27and not with emergencies which may arise
2:00:30tomorrow you can attend to them as they
2:00:32come
2:00:33do not concern yourself with questions
2:00:35as to how you shall sum out obstacles
2:00:37which may Loom upon your business
2:00:39Horizon unless you can see plainly that
2:00:41your course must be altered today in
2:00:43order to avoid them
2:00:45no matter how tremendous an obstruction
2:00:47may appear at a distance you will find
2:00:49that if you go on in a certain way it
2:00:51will disappear as you approach it or
2:00:53that a way over though or around it will
2:00:56appear
2:00:57no possible combination of circumstances
2:00:59can defeat a man or woman who is
2:01:01proceeding to get rich along strictly
2:01:03scientific lines
2:01:05no man or woman who obeys the law can
2:01:08fail to get rich any more than one can
2:01:10multiply two by two and fail to get four
2:01:14give no anxious thought to possible
2:01:16disasters obstacles panics or
2:01:19unfavorable combinations of
2:01:20circumstances it is time enough to meet
2:01:23such things when they present themselves
2:01:25before you in the immediate present and
2:01:27you will find that every difficulty
2:01:28carries with it the wherewithal for its
2:01:30overcoming
2:01:32guard your speech
2:01:34never speak of yourself your Affairs or
2:01:37of anything else in a discouraged or
2:01:39discouraging way
2:01:40never admit the possibility of failure
2:01:43or speak in a way that infers failure as
2:01:45a possibility
2:01:47never speak of the times as being hard
2:01:49or of business conditions as being
2:01:52doubtful
2:01:53times may be hard and business doubtful
2:01:55for those who are on a competitive plane
2:01:58but they can never be so for you you can
2:02:00create what you want and you are above
2:02:02fear
2:02:03when others are having hard times and
2:02:06poor business you will find your
2:02:08greatest opportunities
2:02:10train yourself to think of and to look
2:02:12upon the world as a something which is
2:02:13becoming which is growing and to regard
2:02:16seeming evil as being only that which is
2:02:18undeveloped
2:02:20always speak in terms of advancement to
2:02:22do otherwise is to deny your faith and
2:02:25to deny your faith is to lose it
2:02:28never allow yourself to feel
2:02:30disappointed
2:02:31you may expect to have a certain thing
2:02:33at a certain time and not get it at that
2:02:36time and this will appear to you like
2:02:38failure
2:02:39but if you hold to your faith you will
2:02:41find that the failure is only apparent
2:02:44go on in a certain way and if you do not
2:02:47receive that thing you will receive
2:02:49something so much better that you will
2:02:50see that the seeming failure was really
2:02:52a great success
2:02:54a student of this science had set his
2:02:56mind on making a certain business
2:02:58combination which seemed to him at the
2:03:00time to be very desirable and he worked
2:03:02for some weeks to bring it about
2:03:05when the crucial time came the thing
2:03:07failed in a perfectly inexplicable way
2:03:09it was as if some unseen influence had
2:03:12been working secretly against him
2:03:14he was not disappointed on the contrary
2:03:17he thanked God that his desire had been
2:03:19overruled and went steadily on with a
2:03:22grateful mind
2:03:23in a few weeks an opportunity so much
2:03:26better came his way that he would not
2:03:27have made the first deal on any account
2:03:29and he saw that a mind which knew more
2:03:32than he knew had prevented him from
2:03:33losing the greater good by entangling
2:03:35himself with the Lesser
2:03:37that is the way every seeming failure
2:03:40will work out for you if you keep your
2:03:42faith hold to your purpose have
2:03:44gratitude and do every day all that can
2:03:47be done that day doing each separate act
2:03:50in a successful manner
2:03:52when you make a failure it is because
2:03:54you have not asked for enough keep on
2:03:56and a larger thing than you were seeking
2:03:58will certainly come to you
2:04:00remember this
2:04:02you will not fail because you lack the
2:04:05necessary talent to do what you wish to
2:04:06do
2:04:08if you go on as I have directed you will
2:04:10develop all the talent that is necessary
2:04:12to the doing of your work
2:04:14it is not within the scope of this book
2:04:16to deal with the science of cultivating
2:04:18talent but it is as certain and simple
2:04:21as the process of getting rich
2:04:24however do not hesitate or waver for
2:04:26fear that when you come to any certain
2:04:28place you will fail for lack of ability
2:04:30keep right on and when you come to that
2:04:33place the ability will be furnished to
2:04:35you
2:04:36the same source of ability which enabled
2:04:38the untaught Lincoln to do the greatest
2:04:40work in government ever accomplished by
2:04:42a single man is open to you you may draw
2:04:45upon all the mind there is for Wisdom to
2:04:47use in meeting the responsibilities
2:04:49which are laid upon you
2:04:51go on in full faith
2:04:54study this book
2:04:55make it your constant companion until
2:04:58you have mastered all the ideas
2:04:59contained in it
2:05:01while you are getting firmly established
2:05:03in this Faith you will do well to give
2:05:05up most Recreations and pleasure and to
2:05:08stay away from places where ideas
2:05:09conflicting with these are advanced in
2:05:11lectures or sermons
2:05:13do not read pessimistic or conflicting
2:05:16literature or get into arguments upon
2:05:18the matter
2:05:20do very little reading outside of the
2:05:22writers mentioned in the preface
2:05:24spend most of your leisure time in
2:05:26contemplating your vision and in
2:05:28cultivating gratitude and in reading
2:05:30this book
2:05:32it contains all you need to know of the
2:05:34science of getting rich and you will
2:05:36find all the essentials summed up in the
2:05:38following chapter
2:05:41chapter 17.
2:05:44summary of the science of getting rich
2:05:47there is a thinking stuff from which all
2:05:49things are made and which in its
2:05:51original state permeates penetrates and
2:05:54fills the interspaces of the universe
2:05:57a thought in this substance produces the
2:06:00thing that is imaged by the thought
2:06:02man can form things in his thought and
2:06:05by impressing his thought upon formless
2:06:07substance can cause the thing he thinks
2:06:09about to be created
2:06:11in order to do this man must pass from
2:06:14the competitive to the creative mind
2:06:15otherwise he cannot be in harmony with
2:06:18the formless intelligence which is
2:06:20always creative and never competitive in
2:06:22spirit
2:06:23man may come into full harmony with the
2:06:26formless substance by entertaining the
2:06:28Lively and sincere gratitude for the
2:06:30blessings it bestows upon him
2:06:32gratitude unifies the mind of man with
2:06:35the intelligence of substance so that
2:06:37man's thoughts are received by the
2:06:39formless
2:06:40man can remain upon the creative plane
2:06:43only by uniting himself with the
2:06:45formless intelligence through a deep and
2:06:47continuous feeling of gratitude
2:06:49man must form a clear and definite
2:06:51mental image of the things he wishes to
2:06:53have to do or to become and he must hold
2:06:57this mental image in his thoughts while
2:06:59being deeply grateful to the Supreme
2:07:01that all his desires are granted to him
2:07:04the man who wishes to get rich must
2:07:06spend his leisure hours in contemplating
2:07:08his vision and in Earnest Thanksgiving
2:07:10that the reality is being given to him
2:07:13too much stress cannot be laid on the
2:07:16importance of frequent contemplation of
2:07:18the mental image coupled with unwavering
2:07:20faith and devout gratitude
2:07:22this is the process by which the
2:07:24impression is given to the formless and
2:07:27the creative forces said in motion
2:07:29the Creative Energy Works through the
2:07:31established channels of natural growth
2:07:34and of the industrial and social order
2:07:37all that is included in his mental image
2:07:39will surely be brought to the man who
2:07:41follows the instructions given above and
2:07:43whose Faith does not waver
2:07:46what he wants will come to him through
2:07:47the ways of established trade and
2:07:49commerce
2:07:51in order to receive his own when it
2:07:52shall come to him man must be active and
2:07:55this activity can only consist in more
2:07:57than filling his present place
2:08:00he must keep in mind the purpose to get
2:08:02rich through the realization of his
2:08:03mental image
2:08:05and he must do every day all that can be
2:08:08done that day taking care to do each Act
2:08:11in a successful manner
2:08:13he must give to every man a use value in
2:08:16excess of the cash value he receives so
2:08:18that each transaction makes for more
2:08:20life and he must so hold the advancing
2:08:22thought that the impression of increase
2:08:24will be communicated to all with whom he
2:08:26comes in contact
2:08:28the men and women who practice the
2:08:30foregoing instructions will certainly
2:08:32get rich and the riches they receive
2:08:34will be in exact proportion to the
2:08:36definiteness of their Vision the fixity
2:08:38of their purpose the steadiness of their
2:08:40faith and the depth of their gratitude
