- 0:02I was giving a an interview, a public
- 0:05interview recently in front of I know a
- 0:07few hundred people. And I was making
- 0:08this point, this very point about STEM,
- 0:10about how it's great that we've expanded
- 0:12now girls access to STEM education for
- 0:14the girls who want to become scientists,
- 0:15and that's awesome. However, there are a
- 0:17lot of girls who don't want to do that.
- 0:18And then these two sort of uber feminist
- 0:21young people, these women started to boo
- 0:22me, and I turn around, I'm like, "Be
- 0:25quiet. What do you Who are you booing?
- 0:27What do you think you're doing?
- 0:29What is controversial about what I just
- 0:30said that not all women want to go into
- 0:33STEM? It's a fact. Deal with it. And by
- 0:36the way, you're all of about like 14, so
- 0:38go and live a little bit before you come
- 0:39back and boo somebody like me who's
- 0:40actually been out there. Right? So, I
- 0:42didn't say that last part, but I thought
- 0:43it. But my point is, it's not
- 0:45controversial to say that a lot of women
- 0:47don't want to go into STEM. I hell no. I
- 0:49went to curriculum last night for my
- 0:50son, my seventh grader, and we went in a
- 0:52math class, and truly I was like, "Is
- 0:54anyone else hot? It's hot."
- 0:56I like I was breaking out in hives just
- 0:58looking at the he's doing.
- 1:00I don't want to do math, and I don't
- 1:02want to do science, and that's me.
- 1:03That's fine. I would have been freaked
- 1:05out if I had a school that kept shoving
- 1:07me into STEM.
- 1:09Yeah, I again, this idea that that if
- 1:11there is a disparity, that therefore
- 1:12there has been discrimination. That if
- 1:14women choose to take more time off from
- 1:16the workforce to take care of kids than
- 1:17men do on average, which is true, or
- 1:19that women tend to do different majors
- 1:20than men, which is true, or that women
- 1:22prefer certain types of jobs to others.
- 1:24Like, you don't see a lot of women who
- 1:25are who are dreaming at age 12 of
- 1:27working on an oil Derrick. This tends to
- 1:28be something that that dudes tend to
- 1:31want to do. Like, picking up heavy
- 1:32machinery and using it. Like, that that
- 1:33tends to be sort of a male
- 1:34characteristic. And it's true, by the
- 1:35way, in primates. Right? If you if you
- 1:37if you look at primate studies, what you
- 1:39will see is that from very like baby
- 1:41ages, young primate males will turn
- 1:44everything into a weapon or a machine,
- 1:46and young primate females will turn
- 1:48everything into a baby as a generality.
- 1:50That Again, what is I'm just wondering,
- 1:52what's wrong with that? Like, seriously,
- 1:54what's the problem? Why is it suddenly a
- 1:56an act of good to obliterate this and
- 1:58pretend that this is just some sort of
- 1:59cultural overhang that is promoted by
- 2:02patriarchal men, as opposed to maybe men
- 2:04and women are different, and maybe
- 2:05that's one of the great beauties of
- 2:06life. And pretending that everybody's an
- 2:08interchangeable androgynous widget makes
- 2:10life significantly worse for men and
- 2:12women. I'm I keep saying it over and
- 2:13over, and I'll keep saying it. There is
- 2:15no data suggesting that women today are
- 2:17happier on average than women were in
- 2:191975 or 1965. The average, in fact,
- 2:22suggests precisely the reverse, that
- 2:23women tend to be a little bit unhappier
- 2:25than they were. Well, is that because
- 2:26the workplace is significantly more
- 2:28discriminatory? Or is that because we
- 2:29may have given away a few things in the
- 2:31process of gaining a few things, and
- 2:32maybe there's a happy medium where women
- 2:34are allowed to work whatever jobs they
- 2:35want to work, and also there are still
- 2:37traditional males who want to marry them
- 2:38and have babies with them, and still see
- 2:40themselves in a protective role
- 2:41vis-a-vis their families.
- 2:43If you're like me, you're growing more
