- 0:03the editing process. Now, don't get me
- 0:06wrong, I really enjoy it. Color grading,
- 0:08sound design, music, it's all really
- 0:10fun, but sometimes it can get a bit
- 0:13overwhelming. So, here are three things
- 0:14I do to make my editing a little easier
- 0:16and make my videos a little more
- 0:18cinematic.
- 0:20And it starts with what I just did right
- 0:22there. Now, in the business, we like to
- 0:24call that the shot sequence. Now, I
- 0:26didn't make it up, but it's a very
- 0:27helpful editing technique that allows
- 0:29you to accomplish two things at once.
- 0:33The first thing it allows you to do is
- 0:35move your story forward pretty quickly.
- 0:37And secondly, it works as a really good
- 0:39hook. I mean, you're still here, aren't
- 0:41you? To accomplish this, it's quite
- 0:43simple. First, we're going to get a few
- 0:44clips doing one action. Then, we're
- 0:46going to cut all of our clips so they're
- 0:47the same length. And finally, we're
- 0:49going to stitch all of the clips so that
- 0:51they flow together in motion. And the
- 0:53final cut should look something like
- 0:55this.
- 0:58Now, while that looks really good, it
- 1:00still feels like it's missing a few
- 1:02things. And to be honest, that's because
- 1:04it is. Because visuals are only half of
- 1:07the picture. Now, this is where sound
- 1:09design comes in. Now, this is not a
- 1:11sponsored section where I'm going to
- 1:12tell you where you can get your best
- 1:14sound design. I'm simply going to show
- 1:16you what sound effects I use and the
- 1:18names of them.
- 1:20[Music]
- 1:27So, now that we've got that out of the
- 1:28way, let's talk about music. Now, music
- 1:31is the backbone of any video. It
- 1:33dictates a multiple variety of things.
- 1:36Rhythm, pace, emotion, what's going on
- 1:39in the story, you name it. Music has a
- 1:42hold on it. When choosing my music, I
- 1:43try to stay away from lowfi. I think
- 1:45it's a little bit stale and overused. I
- 1:48stick to genres like jazz or house music
- 1:50or something a little more cinematic
- 1:52that can tell the story as I'm sharing
- 1:54my visuals. To be honest, finding music
- 1:56that fits your video is a bit of a skill
- 1:58and can take a long time. That's why I
- 2:01always find my music before I start
- 2:02filming. That way, when I am filming, I
- 2:04know the rhythm that I'm shooting for.
- 2:06So, a few things I do when I'm looking
- 2:07for music is I look at the beats per
- 2:09minutes. This allows me to see how fast
- 2:11the song will go. And the other thing
- 2:13that I do, which I'll just show a
- 2:14screenshot of a song, is I look for dips
- 2:17in the song. I like those cuts because
- 2:19it allows me to actually change the
- 2:21scene pretty naturally with the music
- 2:23opposed to having to cut the music up in
- 2:25an unorganic, natural way.
- 2:30Now, the fun part, adding our flavor.
- 2:32You see, editing is a lot like making
- 2:34bread. You get all the ingredients
- 2:36together, you bake it, and once the
- 2:38bread is done, you get to add your
- 2:40flavor, which is color grading. Color
- 2:42grading communicates the whole aesthetic
- 2:44of the video. And now more than ever,
- 2:46color grading is making a massive
- 2:48impact, stopping people in their scroll.
- 2:50That's beautiful. Now, since this video
- 2:52is all about how I edit quickly and
- 2:54cinematically, I'm going to show you
- 2:55everything I do when I color grade. So,
- 2:57the first step is adding light. More
- 2:59light, more information. Not enough
- 3:01light, not enough information to edit.
- 3:03Then I'll add these little practical
- 3:04lights in the back to give it a little
- 3:06bit more pop. On top of that, I like to
- 3:08use objects in my frame that have a
- 3:10little bit more color. After that, I go
- 3:12into the edit and apply my one-click
- 3:13color grade, which turns boring footage
- 3:15into cinematic footage with one click.
- 3:18It's simple, efficient, and it makes
- 3:20your frames look very cinematic with
- 3:22just one click. Now, that's just what I
- 3:24do because it really does save me a lot
- 3:25of time. If you want to check out the
- 3:27one-click grade, it's linked in the
- 3:28description below.
- 3:31Now, believe it or not, that genuinely
- 3:33is all I do when it comes to making a
- 3:36video. Now, a lot of people think you
- 3:37need to be really crazy creative and
- 3:39think about things that nobody's ever
- 3:41thought about to make a really good
- 3:42video. But over the last 2 years, I've
- 3:44learned that less is more. And to be
- 3:46honest, there's so much about YouTube
- 3:48and creativity that I've learned about
- 3:50in the last 2 years that I never thought
- 3:52about when I first started. And I
- 3:54actually spent the last year putting
- 3:56everything together that I know about
- 3:57when it comes to creating a career with
- 4:00your creativity, whether it's YouTube,
- 4:02being a content creator, or working with
- 4:04brands. And I've put it all together in
- 4:06a very interactive creative blueprint
- 4:08that's linked in the description below.
- 4:10So definitely check that out. I
- 4:11interview people who have sold their
- 4:13businesses for $100 million, content
- 4:15creators with over $200,000 followers,
- 4:17and business minds that talk about what
- 4:19work versus what doesn't work. So
- 4:21definitely check out the creator
- 4:22blueprint. It's linked in the
- 4:23description below. Now, I know that was
- 4:25really quick and short, but I'm trying
- 4:27to package these type of videos where
- 4:28they're very informative and they're
- 4:30very straight to the point. Now, my
- 4:32encouragement and my charge to you guys
- 4:34is come up with a story and break that
- 4:36story up into three chapters. And for
- 4:38each chapter, try to create a visual
- 4:40sequence that pairs well with two to
- 4:42three songs and have a very aesthetic
- 4:44framing that the audience will feel a
- 4:46sense of this is very beautiful. and by
- 4:49the end of the video, maybe talk about
- 4:50it the way that I'm doing so that your
- 4:52audience can feel like they're a part of
- 4:53the creative process. That's what's
- 4:55worked for me and I would love to see
- 4:57what you guys create. So, if you've made
- 4:59it this far, it means you're a part of
- 5:00the 20% of people that watch this video
- 5:02all the way through. Leave a comment
- 5:04letting me know you are a part of the
- 5:0520% and let me know what other topics
- 5:07you'd like me to make these small quick
- 5:10uh videos about. So I will see you all
- 5:13in the next
