THE PAIN OF TRANSITION (Loss, Moving On, Getting Unstuck) | Daily Word 1 — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00Hi guys. For a while I've felt prompted
- 0:02to come on here to YouTube and other
- 0:03social media platforms and to share just
- 0:06a little bit of prophetic teaching
- 0:07regularly. Uh,
- 0:09I love the Bible. I love the word of
- 0:11God. And uh, what I really want to do is
- 0:14probably two, three, four times a week
- 0:16just open the scriptures for 10 or 15
- 0:18minutes. Um, go through a passage verse
- 0:22by verse, line by line, sometimes even
- 0:24word by word and see what the Lord wants
- 0:28to say. I believe that the word of God
- 0:31is powerful. It speaks into our lives in
- 0:34every situation, in every generation.
- 0:37And I've been waiting for the perfect
- 0:39moment. I've been waiting until I have
- 0:40this backdrop all sorted out. We have
- 0:42just moved to Australia, as some of you
- 0:44know, so we're getting the house sorted
- 0:46out. But I got to the stage today where
- 0:47I was just like, if I don't do this now,
- 0:50I'm never going to do it. So, 10, 15
- 0:52minutes, three, four times a week.
- 0:54That's where I'm at, I'm not. I just
- 0:56want to open the word of God and to
- 0:58share it with you. I wanted to be
- 1:00something that you can
- 1:02watch and listen to maybe as you're
- 1:04getting ready in the morning for 10 or
- 1:0615 minutes. Something that will speak
- 1:08into your day. Maybe you will listen to
- 1:10it on your commute to work, whatever
- 1:11that is. But I just really want this to
- 1:14be helpful. That's my prayer. That the
- 1:17Holy Spirit would take the written word
- 1:20of God and speak into your life. And
- 1:22there's a passage that I want to look
- 1:25at, particularly one verse today. And
- 1:27that is 1 Samuel 16, that's the
- 1:30anointing of David to be king. 1 Samuel
- 1:3316 and I want to look at verse one. The
- 1:35Lord said to Samuel, "How long will you
- 1:39mourn for Saul since I have rejected him
- 1:43as king over Israel? Fill your horn with
- 1:47oil and be on your way. I am sending you
- 1:50to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one
- 1:53of his sons to be king."
- 1:56And the Lord would say to Samuel, and
- 1:58the Lord would say to us, "How long are
- 2:01you going to mourn for something I no
- 2:03longer want in your life?
- 2:05How long are you going to cry?
- 2:08How long are you going to get be angry?
- 2:10How long are you going to be emotional?
- 2:12How long are you going to be held back?
- 2:15How long are you going to look back for
- 2:17something in your past that I can't
- 2:20allow to be part of your future?" And it
- 2:24seems from the passage that Samuel has
- 2:26been mourning for some time, and that's
- 2:27understandable. Samuel was invested in
- 2:30Saul. He was the one who had anointed
- 2:32him as king. He had been the one that
- 2:34Saul went to. He had been his mentor,
- 2:37his guide, the one who heard God for
- 2:40Saul. And so, he is taking this
- 2:42personally. He has poured everything
- 2:44into this guy, and Saul hasn't worked
- 2:46out. And we'll talk about that more in
- 2:48the next few days. That Saul had failed
- 2:51God. Saul had been rejected as king. And
- 2:54Samuel is taking this personally. And
- 2:56the Lord comes along and says, "How long
- 2:59will you mourn?"
- 3:01In other words, Saul,
- 3:03it's time to dry your eyes. It's time to
- 3:06move on. It's time to take off your
- 3:09funeral clothes. It's time to step into
- 3:11the next thing that I have for you.
- 3:14And sometimes we will get stuck in life
- 3:17mourning for something that God has
- 3:19moved.
- 3:20We will get stuck in life looking back
- 3:23at something we lost, something we had
- 3:25to leave behind, something that God
- 3:27removed from our life, something that
- 3:29wasn't good, something that wasn't
- 3:30healthy. Or maybe even it was good, it
- 3:32was a God thing, but God has taken it
- 3:35away, and we are finding it difficult to
- 3:38move on. And I believe the Lord would
- 3:40say to some of you today, "Stop mourning
- 3:42for something I removed.
- 3:45Stop grieving for something that is
- 3:46gone. It's time to move on." Now, let
- 3:50Let say this, there is nothing wrong
- 3:52with mourning. There's nothing wrong
- 3:54with grief. Grief is love that
- 3:59that we're struggling to express because
- 4:01there's the person or the thing isn't
- 4:03there to express it to you any longer.
- 4:05Grief is natural, grief is normal, grief
- 4:08is healthy. When we lose someone
- 4:11um
- 4:12and that loss can be more than just
- 4:14somebody dying. It can be losing a
- 4:16friendship, somebody moving away, um a
- 4:19divorce. But even you know what, when I
- 4:21talk about grief it can be even more
- 4:23than that.
- 4:25It can be losing a pet,
- 4:27losing your your beloved dog that you've
- 4:29had for 12 years. It can be losing the
- 4:33youthfulness as you get older. It can be
- 4:36losing a job.
- 4:38It can be losing um friends as you move
- 4:41away from an area. They are not dead. I
- 4:44mean, Saul here wasn't dead, that's the
- 4:46thing, but Samuel is mourning.
- 4:49And so mourning is right because
- 4:52and proper and and and and normal and
- 4:55natural because here's the thing that
- 4:56I've discovered.
- 4:58Transition brings loss and loss brings
- 5:02grief.
- 5:03When you go through any major shift or
- 5:06transition in your life, that will bring
- 5:09loss and loss will bring grief and pain
- 5:12and heartache.
- 5:14And so the Lord would say to you, it's
- 5:16okay to mourn. He says we walk through
- 5:18the valley of the shadow of death, but
- 5:20we don't camp there. We don't stay
- 5:23there. We don't build a house there.
- 5:25We don't take up permanent residence in
- 5:27the valley of the shadow of death. And I
- 5:29believe the Lord would want to speak to
- 5:31some of you prophetically today who have
- 5:33got stuck in a place of looking back at
- 5:36something that you've lost, something
- 5:38that he has taken from you, something
- 5:40that is gone from your life. I just want
- 5:42to make sure this is recording.
- 5:48Yep, it is. Just wanted to make sure.
- 5:50You can tell this is my first YouTube
- 5:52video, guys.
- 5:53Um but I I believe the Lord would want
- 5:55to say to you, let it go.
- 5:57It's time to let it go. It was right to
- 5:59grieve. It was right to mourn.
- 6:02It was right to cry. It was right to
- 6:04feel that loss. That was okay. He's not
- 6:06condemning you for that.
- 6:07But it's time now to move on. It's time
- 6:11to let it go. It's time to step into the
- 6:13next place, space, and stage that I have
- 6:16for you.
- 6:17For that thing, that person, that
- 6:19relationship, that church. Some of us
- 6:21get stuck with church hurt from the
- 6:22past.
- 6:24We're grieving something we poured
- 6:26everything into a church, into a uh
- 6:29a ministry, and it fell apart.
- 6:32For some of us that could be many
- 6:34things, but the Lord would say to you
- 6:35today, it's time
- 6:38to move on. It's time to let that go.
- 6:41You see, God isn't as sentimental as we
- 6:43are. God has already moved on. And we'll
- 6:45see that as we go through this passage
- 6:47over the next few days.
- 6:48God has already moved on. He says, I've
- 6:50found somebody else.
- 6:52But Saul, he can't or Samuel, he's
- 6:54struggling to move on.
- 6:56Samuel is stuck in the past. Samuel is
- 6:59stuck in that old relationship. He's
- 7:00stuck in that old
- 7:02um identity even that he had as Saul's
- 7:06advisor, as Saul's mentor.
- 7:08And God is saying to him, Samuel, don't
- 7:10stay stuck in somewhere that I'm no
- 7:12longer.
- 7:13God has moved on, but Samuel is stuck in
- 7:16the past. And I believe the Lord would
- 7:18want to say to some of you today,
- 7:21it's okay to mourn.
- 7:23And you can't properly leave unless you
- 7:26properly grieve, but there comes a point
- 7:29There comes a point, and I want you to
- 7:31hear this today. There comes a point
- 7:32where the Lord would say,
- 7:34take off your funeral clothes. It's time
- 7:37to move on.
- 7:39It's time to wash your face. It's time
- 7:41to get moving again
- 7:43because I have more for you.
- 7:45You see, Samuel thought that with the
- 7:47loss of Saul as king,
- 7:50that was the end of his ministry.
- 7:52That was the end of kingship. That was
- 7:54the end of the whole project.
- 7:56But God would say, "No."
- 7:58Because that thing is over doesn't mean
- 8:00you're over.
- 8:03I've got something else. I've got
- 8:04someone else.
- 8:06I've already chosen someone else to be
- 8:08king.
- 8:09And God would say to you, that thing
- 8:11might be finished, but it doesn't mean
- 8:14that you're finished.
- 8:15That thing might be over, but it doesn't
- 8:18mean you're over. You know, when Jesus
- 8:19died on the cross, he said, "It is
- 8:21finished."
- 8:23He didn't say, "I am finished." He said,
- 8:25"It is finished." And there is a
- 8:26difference. When God gives you an
- 8:29assignment, it has a beginning and it
- 8:31has an ending. And just because an
- 8:33assignment is finished doesn't mean you
- 8:36are finished. God has another assignment
- 8:39for Samuel. And today I want to tell you
- 8:41God has another assignment for you. That
- 8:43job might not have worked out.
- 8:45That relationship might have fallen
- 8:47apart.
- 8:48That church might have hurt you deeply.
- 8:52You might have been brokenhearted by the
- 8:54loss of that relationship. But the Lord
- 8:56would say to you, "I have something else
- 9:00for you.
- 9:01Just because that is finished doesn't
- 9:03mean I'm finished with you."
- 9:05And I believe the Lord would want to
- 9:06remind you today that I have more for
- 9:08you.
- 9:09I have more for you.
- 9:12God says, "I have already found another
- 9:15person, another man to be king."
- 9:18Not I will, but I have. In other words,
- 9:21I'm already ahead of you. I've already
- 9:23got the next thing ready for you. And I
- 9:26believe the Lord would say that to some
- 9:27of you prophetically today.
- 9:29You're mourning what is behind you.
- 9:33And that's stopping you moving into what
- 9:35I have placed before you. It's stopping
- 9:38you stepping into the new thing that I
- 9:40have prepared for you.
- 9:42Because I am ahead of you and I have got
- 9:45a good future for you.
- 9:48But until you release and relinquish the
- 9:50old, until you let go of that thing from
- 9:54the past that you're holding on to so
- 9:56tightly,
- 9:57I cannot give you the new thing that I
- 9:59have for you. Some of you might have
- 10:01heard me tell this story before. Before
- 10:03I met my wife, I was dating another girl
- 10:05for about 2 years. A wonderful girl.
- 10:07It was one of those relationships that
- 10:09wasn't bad enough to break up, but it
- 10:11wasn't good enough to move towards
- 10:13marriage. And I knew that. And it was
- 10:15going on and on and I knew it wasn't
- 10:18going to go anywhere, but I didn't want
- 10:20to be on my own.
- 10:21And so I kept hanging in there and I
- 10:23kind of kept hoping either that
- 10:25something would change or that someone
- 10:27else would come along and sweep me off
- 10:28my feet and that I'd give me an excuse
- 10:30to break up. And neither of those things
- 10:33happened. And so
- 10:34I was really struggling because I didn't
- 10:37want to hold on to this, but I didn't
- 10:38want to let go of it because I didn't
- 10:39want to be on my own.
- 10:41And I remember a
- 10:42a girl from our church, a young girl who
- 10:44was very prophetic, came up to me one
- 10:46day after a service and she said,
- 10:48"Craig, the Lord gave me a picture for
- 10:49you. You're holding on to this
- 10:51relationship and because you're holding
- 10:52on to it, your hand is closed.
- 10:55But if you will release and relinquish
- 10:57it,
- 10:58that person,
- 10:59your hand will be open to receive." And
- 11:01my response was this, "Could we not just
- 11:03swap?"
- 11:04>> [laughter]
- 11:05>> "Could I not just kind of release and
- 11:06get the new thing at the same time?"
- 11:08Because I was afraid I would just end up
- 11:09with an empty hand. I didn't want to
- 11:11spend Saturday nights on my own. I was
- 11:13what? 30
- 11:152 33 at this stage. All my friends were
- 11:19married.
- 11:20And so I was like, "Can we not just
- 11:21swap?" But that's not the way it works.
- 11:23That's not how God works.
- 11:25And so over the next few weeks, God
- 11:27began to challenge me. God began to
- 11:29convict me. And I released that
- 11:31relationship. And can I tell you, it was
- 11:32painful. It was difficult. And I
- 11:35wondered if I would meet someone else.
- 11:37But I want to tell you this, 4 weeks
- 11:39after that, I met my wife for the first
- 11:41time. 2 months after that, we had our
- 11:44first date. And 4 months after that, we
- 11:46were engaged to be married.
- 11:48I sometimes wonder, what if I hadn't
- 11:50been willing to release something good
- 11:53that wasn't God's best? What if I had
- 11:55held on to something because I was
- 11:57afraid of letting it go? I would have
- 12:00missed out on meeting the girl who has
- 12:03become my wonderful wife.
- 12:06And I want to say to you, maybe you're
- 12:08holding on to something because you're
- 12:10afraid to release it because you know it
- 12:12you know it's not best for you. You know
- 12:14it's not God's best. You know it's not
- 12:16right for you, but you're afraid if you
- 12:18let it go, that you're going to have
- 12:19nothing. I believe the Lord would say to
- 12:21you, release it.
- 12:23Just release it. Open up your hand and
- 12:25let it go.
- 12:26And as you let it go, and as you release
- 12:29it, and as you relinquish it, you will
- 12:32have an open hand to receive. And you
- 12:35will see that I will move, and I will
- 12:38bring the next thing into your life. The
- 12:40next person, the next role, the next
- 12:42ministry, the next assignment.
- 12:45When something has come to an end, don't
- 12:48keep holding on to it. Stop mourning for
- 12:52something God has already removed. Stop
- 12:54grieving for something that is gone.
- 12:57There was a time for it, but the Lord
- 12:59would say to you, that time is now over.
- 13:01How long will you mourn for? And you can
- 13:04put whatever it is in there. How long
- 13:06will you keep holding on to that thing
- 13:09that is no longer aligned with where I'm
- 13:11taking you, says the Lord. And I decree
- 13:13today over you,
- 13:15that you will step into the purposes of
- 13:18God. That you will fully release
- 13:20anything that's not aligned and assigned
- 13:22to your next season.
- 13:24That you will walk in the fullness of
- 13:26the purposes and the goodness of God.
- 13:29And that you will know and experience
- 13:32his abundance, his provision, and his
- 13:35best for your life in this next season.
- 13:38And so, I bless you today.
- 13:40I bless you wherever you are, wherever
- 13:42you're listening to this under the sound
- 13:43of my voice. I bless you in the name of
- 13:46the Father,
- 13:47in the name of the Son, and the name of
- 13:50the Holy Spirit.
- 13:51Listen, if this has been helpful to you,
- 13:54why don't you like, why don't you
- 13:55subscribe, why don't you share it with
- 13:57someone? This is the first one, it's
- 13:59been a little bit rough,
- 14:01>> [laughter]
- 14:01>> and that's okay. May I just needed to
- 14:04start, and maybe some of you need to
- 14:05hear that today, actually. Just start
- 14:08messy. This wasn't perfect, guys, but
- 14:10I'm not going to redo it.
- 14:12Sometimes you need to stop waiting for
- 14:14perfect conditions and just start as you
- 14:17are with what you have, and let the Lord
- 14:19take your loaves and fish and do what he
- 14:22wants with them. So, I bless you today.
- 14:24Have a wonderful day. I look forward to
- 14:25seeing you again. Bye.
