- 0:00This Gujarati went from selling sodas on
- 0:01the street to creating India's biggest
- 0:03ice cream factory. Vadilal Gandhi was
- 0:05running a small soda shop in Ahmedabad
- 0:07in the 1900s when he saw that Indians
- 0:09are falling in love with a new treat
- 0:11called ice cream. So, he started making
- 0:13handmade ice creams choosing the Kothi
- 0:15method to earn extra money. But,
- 0:16everything changed when his son
- 0:17Ranchhodlal joined the business who was
- 0:19far more ambitious. He realized that
- 0:21manual production would keep them a
- 0:23small sweet shop forever. So, he took a
- 0:25bold step for which people called him
- 0:27crazy. He invested everything to import
- 0:29an ice cream machine from Germany back
- 0:31in 1926 and shifted from selling sodas
- 0:34to opening India's first dedicated ice
- 0:36cream parlor which gradually grew to
- 0:38multiple outlets. But, the real game
- 0:39changer came with the third generation.
- 0:41His sons were determined to become the
- 0:43world's number one ice cream brand. They
- 0:44scaled production and introduced flavors
- 0:46like Cassata in the 1950s which became a
- 0:49raging hit. After which the next
- 0:50generations went into exports, even
- 0:52building India's largest ice cream
- 0:54factories while maintaining the taste.
- 0:56That's how Vadilal became a global ice
- 0:58cream empire present in 45 plus
