- 0:00You got to become so conscious of your
- 0:01unconscious behaviors, how you speak,
- 0:03how you act. If you suffer, if you
- 0:05[music] complain, if you blame, you make
- 0:06excuses. That's not the new person you
- 0:08want to become. You got to leave that
- 0:10person behind. [music]
- 0:11So if you want to become happy, you got
- 0:13to stop being unhappy.
- 0:21You believe that it's the [music]
- 0:24practices
- 0:27that you participate in and the new
- 0:29environment that's creating the
- 0:31different environment inside of you or
- 0:34is it the sort of future you you're
- 0:38becoming and you're actually tapping
- 0:41into that timeline?
- 0:42>> Wow, I love that question. It's both. I
- 0:45mean the overcoming process is the
- 0:48becoming process. [music]
- 0:50You know, if you think about it, think
- 0:51about it. No matter what it is,
- 0:53>> but the leap so quick is what's amazing.
- 0:55>> Yeah. Yeah. Well, that's because you're
- 0:56you're fully immersed. Never time will
- 0:58you sit with you uh as much as you will
- 1:01to know thyself, right?
- 1:02>> It's true. So many hours of meditation
- 1:04at these and so much out time with
- 1:06[music] yourself.
- 1:07>> You have to become so conscious of your
- 1:09unconscious thoughts. The ones that are
- 1:10hardwired in in the brain as beliefs
- 1:12that say I can't. It's too hard.
- 1:14Something's wrong with me. It's my
- 1:16mother's fault. I'll never change.
- 1:17[music] It's my ex's fault. You know,
- 1:19whatever that is. You got to become so
- 1:21conscious of your unconscious behaviors.
- 1:23How you speak, how [music] you act. If
- 1:25you suffer, if you complain, if you
- 1:26blame, you make excuses. That's not the
- 1:29new person you want to become. You
- 1:30[music] got to leave that person behind.
- 1:32And then you got to look at the emotions
- 1:34that keep you [music] anchored to the
- 1:36past and the story you tell about the
- 1:38past that keeps that that memory alive
- 1:41in the body and the past.
- 1:42>> I say that too. I'm like the story I'm
- 1:44telling myself is. [music]
- 1:45>> Yeah. And it's a lie. 50% of it is a
- 1:47lie. That's what neuroscience says. So
- 1:50people are reliving a miserable life
- 1:52that they never even had just to [music]
- 1:54reaffirm their addiction to that emotion
- 1:56to excuse themselves from changing. What
- 1:58they're really saying is [music] it was
- 1:59that event that happened 10 years ago
- 2:02that changed me and I have not been able
- 2:04to [music] change since. So if you want
- 2:06to become happy, you got to stop being
- 2:08unhappy. So you got to become so
- 2:10conscious [music] of your unconscious
- 2:12thoughts, behaviors, and emotions that
- 2:14you don't default when you return back
- 2:16into your life and return back [music]
- 2:17to the same personality because that
- 2:20same personality is connected to the
- 2:22same personal reality that the person's
- 2:24living with. So they have to be able to
- 2:25think, act, [music] and feel differently
- 2:27in the same environment. And that's when
- 2:29you master your life. The fundamental
- 2:31question is in the 7-day process, could
- 2:33you come up against all of those things
- 2:35and not say, "Oh, I can't meditate. It's
- 2:38too hard. this isn't for me, but be
- 2:40curious about what's [music] on the
- 2:42other side of that thought. What's on
- 2:43the other side of that emotion? That's
- 2:44the unknown. And our data shows that if
- 2:47you get to that point where you want to
- 2:49stop and you go a little further, that's
- 2:50when the brain changes the most cuz
- 2:52that's when you're breaking out of the
- 2:53known into the unknown,
- 2:54>> right? Why is it always in that pain
- 2:56spot? The higher the level, the greater
- 2:59the alchemy [music]
- 3:01within the body. Why is that? So
- 3:04relaxing into the present moment is
- 3:07relaxing into [music] the unknown. And
- 3:09that's
- 3:10>> that's our greatest fear.
- 3:11>> That's that is like the unknown is so
- 3:13unpredictable. It's it elicits such a
- 3:15survival response. And yet teaching
- 3:18people how to relax into the unknown as
- 3:20they as they labor for the present
- 3:22moment. There comes a moment where
- 3:25you're conditioning your body to a new
- 3:27mind. The body wants to get up. It wants
- 3:28to get aroused. It wants to quit. It
- 3:30wants to do something. It's used to
- 3:31feeling from an experience in the
- 3:33environment and you're denying it that
- 3:35it's not eating, it's not smelling, it's
- 3:36not tasting, it's not [music] seeing,
- 3:38it's not tick- tocking, it's not
- 3:39scrolling, it's not doing any of that
- 3:40stuff and it's been habituated to rely
- 3:42on all those things that create a
- 3:44feeling. And so when you feel the
- 3:45frustration, the impatience, the
- 3:48resentment arise in your body, that's
- 3:49when people quit. We discovered if you
- 3:51just like training an animal, settle it
- 3:54back down into the present moment until
- 3:56it's no longer the mind that you're the
- 3:58mind, it will buck back again and and
- 4:01want to have its way cuz [music] it's
- 4:02been conditioned to feel familiar
- 4:04feelings from the past. Good or bad,
- 4:07bad, right? It doesn't matter. It just
- 4:08wants familiar.
- 4:09>> It wants familiar. So if you work into
- 4:11that present moment and [music] and a
- 4:13person gets up and runs through the same
- 4:15behaviors every single day and they're
- 4:17habituated into a predictable future and
- 4:19[music] they're used to doing things and
- 4:20getting things done and now you're
- 4:22making the body sit and it wants to get
- 4:23up and wants to check its emails and its
- 4:26texts and [music]
- 4:27social media and you're noticing your
- 4:29body wants to do that instead of getting
- 4:30up and doing [music] it. Bringing your
- 4:32body back to the present moment and
- 4:34executing a will that's greater than the
- 4:37program is training the animal. And if
- 4:39you can train the animal over and over
- 4:40again and you're uncompromising and
- 4:42you're just not going to give up because
- 4:44that's [music] the act, sooner or later
- 4:46the body surrenders to a new mind. And
- 4:48when it does, there's this liberation of
- 4:50energy and that energy moves right into
- 4:52the heart. It's the that that energy is
- 4:56stored information [music] in the body
- 4:57and the body is being freed from the
- 4:59chains of the familiar past and the
- 5:02predictable future. So [music] to answer
- 5:03your question, you can't create from the
- 5:06known. You got to create from the
- 5:08unknown. And getting people to
- 5:10understand how to do that is the process
- 5:13of overcoming yourself. We discovered
- 5:16that the overcoming process is literally
- 5:18the becoming process because [music] the
- 5:20future you that already exists in that
- 5:23timeline. You have to become it. So then
- 5:26you can't you have to overcome the old
- 5:28self to become self and embody it. So
- 5:30then the next fundamental question if
- 5:32you're a pragmatist is well if a belief
- 5:34is just a thought I keep thinking over
- 5:36and over again until I hardwire it in my
- 5:38brain and I'm overcoming these beliefs I
- 5:39[music] can't it's too hard I can't
- 5:41meditate I'll never change and what
- 5:43thought do you want to fire and wire in
- 5:45your brain like I do believe in myself
- 5:46like I can do this and remember to think
- 5:49that way and with intention and with
- 5:51attention review it in your mind repeat
- 5:53it in your mind remember it so you don't
- 5:55forget it nerve cells that fire together
- 5:57wire together you start installing the
- 5:59circuitry in your brain. Keep doing it.
- 6:02The more those neurons fire, the more
- 6:04automatically they fire, the easier it
- 6:06gets. Now you're you're creating a new
- 6:08belief. That's the new voice in your
- 6:09head that says that I can. Now, there's
- 6:11no magic there. It's just stop thinking
- 6:13this way. Start thinking this way. Okay.
- 6:15If I complain and I blame and I make
- 6:17excuses and I feel sorry for myself and
- 6:19I judge everyone, a happy person,
- 6:21[music]
- 6:21that makes me unhappy. I can't I got to
- 6:23stop doing that. So, how am I going to
- 6:25be with my ex? How am I going to be with
- 6:27my coworker? [music] How am I going to
- 6:28be with my partner? How am I going to be
- 6:30with my kids? How am I going to be in my
- 6:32life? And this is what many people
- 6:34become aware of when they are in the
- 6:36process of healing. [music] Like, I just
- 6:38had a 1-hour great meditation and then I
- 6:40spent the rest of the day acting as my
- 6:42old self or feeling like my old self.
- 6:44Okay, I got to act differently with my
- 6:47ex. What would love do? Um, uh, what
- 6:50would greatness look like?
- 6:51>> There's a [music] saying that you don't
- 6:52get what you want, you get what you
- 6:54believe you deserve. Exactly.
- 6:55>> And so, you have to become [music]
- 6:56bigger, better than you. Right. Because
- 6:58the reason why you're stuck in those
- 7:00patterns or those loops or [music] those
- 7:02situations is because subconsciously or
- 7:04consciously you think that's what you
- 7:06deserve because of a story [music]
- 7:07you've told yourself.
- 7:07>> Yeah. And the universe only gives us
- 7:09what we think we're worthy of receiving.
- 7:11So yeah, so it's important and exactly
- 7:13for the person then to say, "Okay, I'm
- 7:14worthy of love in my life." Okay. So how
- 7:18should I act differently? [music] Could
- 7:20I forgive? What would that look like?
- 7:21And the act of closing their eyes and
- 7:24planning their behaviors, mentally
- 7:25[music] rehearsing their actions.
- 7:27>> Yeah. when they're truly present. You
- 7:28know this, you're you're you're an
- 7:30athlete.
- 7:31>> Your brain doesn't know the difference
- 7:32between the real [music] life experience
- 7:33and what you're imagining. And now
- 7:36you're installing the neurological
- 7:37hardware in your brain. You got you're
- 7:39you're priming your brain. You're
- 7:41installing circuits to use so you behave
- 7:44differently. Keep reviewing them and the
- 7:46brain will look like you already did it.
- 7:48Now your behaviors will match your
- 7:51intentions in your life and you won't
- 7:52default and return back to the old
- 7:54personality. Okay. If I've been feeling
- 7:56unhappy, if I've been feeling resentful,
- 7:58if I've been feeling fearful, if I've
- 8:00been feeling unworthy,
- 8:03and I want to be abundant, I can't feel
- 8:06any of those things or lack. Or I want
- 8:07to be happy, I can't feel all these
- 8:09emotions. I can feel new emotions. Okay.
- 8:11Can I literally teach my body
- 8:13emotionally
- 8:15>> what this future me would feel like
- 8:18before it happens?
- 8:19>> Very hard.
- 8:19>> Very hard. Very hard. because we're
- 8:21hypnotized and conditioned to believe
- 8:23that something out there has to happen
- 8:25to take away that lack or separation
- 8:27that we feel inside. What we [music]
- 8:28discovered
- 8:30>> is that it's the simple formula of being
- 8:32relaxed in your heart. And the more
- 8:33relaxed you are in your heart, the more
- 8:35awake you are in the brain. That's just
- 8:36the way it goes. [music] Instead of
- 8:38stressed out, unconscious and being in a
- 8:40program, you can teach people actually
- 8:43how to sustain the state. And the heart
- 8:46is the creative center. We have to fall
- 8:49in love with our creation. And when the
- 8:51heart moves into coherence, we've
- 8:52measured this so many times. An energy
- 8:56makes it to the heart. The moment it
- 8:58makes it to the heart, it tells the
- 8:59brain it's time to create. And now the
- 9:01[music] brain gets super creative. It
- 9:03moves into these elegant coherent alpha
- 9:06patterns.
- 9:06>> So it becomes the tuner. You're saying
- 9:08when it says create, it goes we're going
- 9:09to tune. We're going to d turn this dial
- 9:11to 98.6.
- 9:12>> Exactly. Exactly. And what it does is it
- 9:15naturally starts to dream. It naturally
- 9:17starts to imagine. It's not naturally
- 9:19starts to create a new possibility. What
- 9:21would it be like to be wealthy, to be
- 9:22healthy, to be healthy, to be free, to
- 9:24be unlimited? And and the forebrain
- 9:26switches on and the thought in your mind
- 9:29becomes more real than anything else.
- 9:31>> To the passionate person who's in that
- 9:33state, they're already falling. They're
- 9:35already feeling [music] as if it's
- 9:36already happening.
- 9:37>> The stronger the emotion you feel in
- 9:40that moment, the more you remember that
- 9:42vision. And now you're branding it
- 9:45neurologically in the and conditioning
- 9:46[music] it
- 9:47>> to the body and the body's getting a
- 9:49taste
- 9:50>> because essentially that's what a trauma
- 9:51is is when something negative happens
- 9:53there's an emotion attached to it.
- 9:54[music] So if you can do that on the
- 9:56flip side of something so positive and
- 9:58have an emotion it etches that in as a
- 10:00positive [music] experience and it does
- 10:02the same thing.
- 10:02>> That's brilliant. It's exactly what it
- 10:04is. So [music] then the stronger the
- 10:06emotion we feel from some trauma, some
- 10:08shock, some betrayal, some loss, the
- 10:10more altered we are inside of us, that
- 10:12moment where we're out of normal
- 10:14chemical continuity, the brain freezes
- 10:16that frame right in front of you and
- 10:19takes a snapshot. And that's called a
- 10:20long-term memory. And that that
- 10:22information from your environment is
- 10:23being embossed holographically into
- 10:26networks in the brain. So the person not
- 10:29knowing this keeps reviewing the event
- 10:3150 100 times a day keeps telling the
- 10:33story and the body's so objective it's
- 10:36reliving the experience of the thought
- 10:37and the feeling the image the emotion
- 10:39the stimulus and response is
- 10:41conditioning the body to become the mind
- 10:43of the past. Okay. [music] So
- 10:45theoretically then if it was a strong
- 10:47shock or a strong betrayal then it would
- 10:50have to mean that in order to move the
- 10:51brain and body out of the past you would
- 10:54have to feel an emotion with such a
- 10:56quotient of energy that it would be
- 10:59greater than the trauma and the
- 11:00betrayal. But in 7 days many people hit
- 11:04that moment where they're so in love
- 11:05with their future that they forget about
- 11:07their past and they're literally
- 11:09dragging their brain and body out of the
- 11:12past into the present moment. And the
- 11:14side effect of that is a healing because
- 11:17the body is no longer being abused by
- 11:20the event that it thinks it's in
- 11:22emotionally. [music]
- 11:23>> So then so then yes, you can also chisel
- 11:26away at it every day and keep working on
- 11:28the elevated emotions of your future and
- 11:30stop feeling the emotions of your past
- 11:31and your your chemistry will actually
- 11:33change. And then there'll come a moment
- 11:35where you're so in love with your future
- 11:38and you can see the vision so clear in
- 11:40your mind [music] that it's greater than
- 11:41the the quotion of the betrayal in the
- 11:43past. And that's the moment your life
- 11:46changes. [music] Right. And nothing
- 11:47changes in our life until we change.
- 11:49>> Right.
- 11:50>> Right.
- 11:51>> So what's heartbreak then?
- 11:53>> Yeah. That's the moment where [music]
- 11:54your whole world as you know it is has
- 11:58changed to such a degree that it leaves
- 12:01a very strong
- 12:03scar or wound in the heart like a hole
- 12:05in the heart. Right? So
- 12:08that's the moment the protective
- 12:09networks switch on in the brain and says
- 12:13close this down. Never be vulnerable
- 12:15again. [music] Uh it's it's a a loss
- 12:18that we're feeling. A part of our heart
- 12:20that we've were in love with or we felt
- 12:22connected to is now broken or missing.
- 12:25[music] God, there's so much great data
- 12:27on how to heal trauma. And what what we
- 12:30know and what the research shows [music]
- 12:32is that once energy moves into the heart
- 12:35and the heart starts sustaining [music]
- 12:37a certain level of coherence, the heart
- 12:39will tell the brain will tell the
- 12:41amygdala the trauma [music] is over.
- 12:43it'll say the event is over because now
- 12:46the the heart is moving out of the
- 12:49emotion of shock or betrayal or loss.
- 12:52And so there's nothing wrong with
- 12:54feeling those emotions uh when we have
- 12:57them. But the question is how long are
- 12:59we going to feel them for? Right? And
- 13:01>> is it the [music] longer we think them
- 13:02the worse it gets or no? Oh, if we
- 13:05ruminate over the same experience, it
- 13:07becomes our identity and that's when it
- 13:09becomes a problem because now it's very
- 13:12hard to confront the identity when it's
- 13:14you, right? So,
- 13:16>> so, but many people learn from the
- 13:19experience [music]
- 13:20cuz the moment they feel that feeling
- 13:22that they've never felt before and
- 13:25they're so altered, I really think it's
- 13:27the moment where they [music] can
- 13:29finally see themselves through the eyes
- 13:32of someone else. they no no email, no
- 13:35dinner, no social media, no movie, no
- 13:38drug, no drink [music] is taking away
- 13:40that feeling. Right? So this is the
- 13:42moment where they start observing how
- 13:45they've been thinking. They start
- 13:46looking at themselves, how they've been
- 13:48acting and speaking and [music]
- 13:49looking how they've been feeling.
- 13:50They're they're they're they're
- 13:52objectifying their subjective self. And
- 13:54in neuroscience that's called
- 13:55metacognition. So [music] the person
- 13:57who's been wounded from the experience,
- 13:59if they're interested in evolving and
- 14:02[music] getting past the emotion of that
- 14:04experience,
- 14:05>> the memory of that event without the
- 14:08emotional charge is called wisdom,
- 14:10right? And that's the name of the game,
- 14:12right? That's the name of the game.
- 14:13True.
- 14:13>> And so then think about this. What is
- 14:15forgiveness? [music]
- 14:16>> Forgiveness is not like, "Hey, I'm going
- 14:19to forgive you. Just know that I'm going
- 14:21to forgive you. Not not keeping track,
- 14:23but
- 14:24>> I forgave you."
- 14:25>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Right. It's not like
- 14:26that. It's when you really [music] feel
- 14:29your heart open. Yeah.
- 14:30>> Oxytocin levels go up dramatically.
- 14:33That's what our research shows, too.
- 14:34[music] Oxytocin signals nitric oxide.
- 14:37Nitric oxide signals another chemical to
- 14:39cause the arteries in your heart to
- 14:40[music] engorg with blood. So blood
- 14:43moves right into your heart. And in that
- 14:44state, it's impossible to [music] hold
- 14:47the grudge. The research on on oxytocin
- 14:49is a person who's been betrayed [music]
- 14:51cannot hold a grudge anymore.
- 14:54Forgiveness then is when the emotion is
- 14:57transformed into a greater level of
- 14:59consciousness. [music]
- 15:00And now you're you feel so good
- 15:02>> into wisdom.
- 15:03>> Yeah. Into wisdom. And you [music] feel
- 15:05so good that when the you don't even
- 15:08want to think about that you're okay.
- 15:10[music] Think about this. You can get a
- 15:12person doing interval training,
- 15:15highintensity workouts. They can do
- 15:18massage, acupuncture, chiropractic,
- 15:19[music]
- 15:20you know, Pilates, uh, you know,
- 15:22foundation training. Um, [music] they
- 15:24could take all their peptides, all their
- 15:26vitamins, their minerals. Um, they could
- 15:30do intermittent fasting. They could do
- 15:31all that stuff, eat organic, eat raw,
- 15:34eat vegan. But if they're living in
- 15:37[music] constant emergency in fear and
- 15:40anxiety and anger and resentment,
- 15:43they're never going to be in balance
- 15:45because all the work they do to become
- 15:47chemically balanced and physically
- 15:49balanced is going to be derailed because
- 15:52of their emotional response. So
- 15:54emotional regulation, I mean it's not
- 15:56look, I react, everybody reacts. The
- 15:58question is [music] how long are you
- 16:00going to react? That's the real
- 16:02question. teaching people how to convert
- 16:03and switch out of that sympathetic
- 16:05response into something else. Justified,
- 16:08valid or not, the only person that
- 16:10that's hurting is ourselves, right? It's
- 16:13like drinking poison and hoping someone
- 16:15else dies. It's the only your emotional
- 16:17response is only weakening the organism,
- 16:19right? So, I think when people get the
- 16:21information and they reason with it,
- 16:22they're like, "Oh my god, I'm not going
- 16:24to hold on to that past event any
- 16:25longer." And the feel I'm just going to
- 16:27let it go. [music] And as a result of
- 16:29it, their simple choice to do that with
- 16:31the understanding actually changes
- 16:34something in their life. And that's the
- 16:35experiment. I change my [music] life
- 16:37changes. So overcome and become. Break
- 16:40the habit of being yourself. Shorten the
- 16:42refractory period of your emotional
- 16:44responses and you'll keep your body and
- 16:46brain out of the past. And and when it's
- 16:48the hardest, it matters the [music]
- 16:50most.
- 16:50>> What's the difference between stress and
- 16:52anxiety? Stress um is when the brain and
- 16:55body are knocked out of homeostasis.
- 16:57[music] One of the emotions that are
- 17:00created from the stress response [music]
- 17:02is fear. And fear is connected to
- 17:05anxiety and anxiety to worry and
- 17:07insecurity. Right? So then when we're
- 17:09feeling fear, what we're typically doing
- 17:11and this is an unconscious process in
- 17:13our [music] mind. We're selecting in
- 17:15stress and in when we're out of balance
- 17:17out of the infinite possibilities that
- 17:19we can think [music] about in the
- 17:20quantity, we're choosing the worstc case
- 17:24scenario.
- 17:24>> Done it.
- 17:25>> And and and then we embellish it. Oh my
- 17:27god, what what if this happens and what
- 17:28if that oh this could happen.
- 17:30>> Literally the worst case scenario.
- 17:31>> And that is a creative process.
- 17:33>> It is a creative process because what
- 17:35you're doing
- 17:36>> is you're actually feeling the emotion
- 17:40>> of that event if it happens. And your
- 17:42body is becoming [music] conditioned
- 17:45emotionally
- 17:47>> into anxiety. So it's [music] that image
- 17:50and that emotion, that thought and that
- 17:53feeling, that [music] stimulus and
- 17:55response that's conditioning the body to
- 17:57become the mind of anxiety. Do it over
- 17:59and over again and make some bad
- 18:01lifestyle choices [music] and then your
- 18:03body's going to have a panic attack. Try
- 18:05as you may to control it with your
- 18:07conscious mind. You can't. You
- 18:09programmed it subconsciously. So many
- 18:11people say, "Oh, it's a chemical [music]
- 18:12imbalance in your brain." Well, yeah,
- 18:14it's true. It's a chemical imbalance in
- 18:16your brain. You you have a [music] panic
- 18:17attack. If you're in the supermarket and
- 18:20you have a panic attack, you look
- 18:21around, your heart is racing, you're,
- 18:23you know, you're you're you're seeing
- 18:25flashes of light, you can't breathe, and
- 18:27you think it's something going on in the
- 18:28supermarket. You're correlating the
- 18:30outer world with what's going on in your
- 18:32inner world. And now you'll avoid
- 18:33supermarkets or open spaces, right? Take
- 18:36the pharmaceutical. The pharmaceutical
- 18:38will help to [music] create some
- 18:39chemical balance. has hardware, it
- 18:41circuits, it's chemistry, but more than
- 18:43likely you'll still avoid open spaces or
- 18:46if it happens on an airplane, you won't
- 18:47get on an airplane or you won't do that.
- 18:49So, so are you really healed? I don't
- 18:51know. Then, is it a software problem?
- 18:53Are you a perfectionist? Was your father
- 18:55a perfectionist? Was he overbearing?
- 18:57Okay. Does the insight and understanding
- 18:59it's a software problem [music] change
- 19:00the behavior? No. If you were going to
- 19:03the psychic and the psychic said, "Oh,
- 19:05you were burned at the stake in
- 19:06Carcasson. You were charismatic
- 19:08Christian and
- 19:09>> Salem. they sail and the memory of your
- 19:12uh of your trauma is burned in your soul
- 19:14and that's why you have anxiety.
- 19:16>> That doesn't change the anxiety. It
- 19:18actually reaffirms it. You go to the
- 19:19cocktail party and say, "Yeah, I was
- 19:21burned at the stake." [music]
- 19:23Then you go to the astrologer and the
- 19:24astrologer says, "Mercury's in the wrong
- 19:26house." You know, don't
- 19:27>> burn at the stake.
- 19:28>> Yeah. None of those things really help a
- 19:30person understand that we discovered
- 19:32it's that process of sitting with
- 19:34yourself. And we have [music] hundreds,
- 19:36actually thousands of brain scans with
- 19:38people with anxiety, really high beta
- 19:40brain wave patterns. They change in
- 19:42seven days, four days, because they're
- 19:43catching themselves [music] going to
- 19:46that automatic future scenario. And
- 19:48>> it's that refractory period
- 19:49>> and and bringing themselves back to the
- 19:51present moment. Yeah. And the only way
- 19:53you become [music] conscious is catching
- 19:56yourself going unconscious. And it's a
- 19:58it's a it's like meditation. Exactly
- 20:00what it is.
- 20:01>> Meditating is the act of bringing
- 20:02yourself back, right? over and over
- 20:04again and that's exactly what changes
- 20:06the anxiety. Here's a great way to think
- 20:08about it.
- 20:09>> If you get up from your meditation
- 20:12feeling like it's already happened
- 20:13[music] and you can maintain that
- 20:16modified state of mind and body your
- 20:17entire day, it's impossible for you to
- 20:20[music] look for it. You cannot look for
- 20:23it if you feel like it's already
- 20:24happened. You only look [music] for it
- 20:27when you feel like you haven't happened.
- 20:28That so the person who says, "How come
- 20:29I'm not healed?" That's the old
- 20:31personality. The new personality would
- 20:33never say that. They would be walking in
- 20:36the glory of being healed and practicing
- 20:37[music]
- 20:38teaching their body what it would feel
- 20:40like to be healed. That would be the
- 20:42work, right? So you could have one hour
- 20:44[music] meditation, the be all holy and
- 20:46all connected, and you spend the rest of
- 20:48your day stressed out, resentful,
- 20:51judgmental.
- 20:54How can your body heal? [music] The
- 20:56person who's really saying, "Oh my god,
- 20:58now I got to get so good at doing it
- 21:00with my eyes closed. I got to do it with
- 21:02my eyes open. Wow, now the [music] game
- 21:05changes. Cuz if I do sustain this state
- 21:08and I'm a creator, well then there
- 21:10should be something new that appears in
- 21:12my life. And the energy and the
- 21:14excitement from that coincidence
- 21:16inspires me to want to keep creating.
- 21:18And that's the, [music] you know, that's
- 21:19the experiment. Intention is getting
- 21:22clear on what you want. And surrendering
- 21:23[music] is trusting in the outcome. If
- 21:26you overtend, you're trying. If you over
- 21:28surrender, you're lazy and lethargic.
- 21:30It's that razor's edge where you have to
- 21:33really kind of master that trust. And I
- 21:35think the heart is a great way for us to
- 21:37surrender [music] because if when I
- 21:39truly feel that feeling, I trust in the
- 21:42future. And if I trust in the future,
- 21:44then I'm not in the way. I'm when I get
- 21:46in the way, I think the universe says,
- 21:48"Okay, bro. Go for it. You want to do it
- 21:51your way. Let's see how it goes."
- 21:52>> And you're also basking in the feeling,
- 21:54of course.
- 21:55>> Like, so you're still in it. Like if
- 21:56it's a strong enough emotion, you get to
- 21:58kind of like sit in it.
- 22:01>> And so you're not there's no need to
- 22:03reach [music] wonder, stress, worry
- 22:05because you're in it.
- 22:07>> It's already happened. [laughter] Your
- 22:08body's believing it's already happened.
- 22:10So that's why I think gratitude is just
- 22:12such a powerful emotion because when
- 22:14[music] you receive something favorable
- 22:16or something favorable or wonderful just
- 22:18happened to you, you you feel gratitude.
- 22:20So the emotional signature [music] of
- 22:22gratitude is something wonderful just
- 22:24happened or something wonderful is
- 22:26happening to me right now. When you feel
- 22:28gratitude, you're in the ultimate state
- 22:30of receiverhip [music] because the body
- 22:31is so objective. It's believing it's
- 22:33happening when now. And so so people who
- 22:37who experiment with gratitude [music]
- 22:40see so many reasons in their life in the
- 22:44self-reflective universe to have more
- 22:46reasons to be [music] grateful. Be
- 22:49really unhappy, be really judgmental,
- 22:51and you will see through that lens all
- 22:52the time. And that's the only reality.
- 22:54We don't see things how they are. We see
- 22:56things how we are. Right? So that's the
- 22:58only reality the person sees through
- 23:00that lens. [music] So if the emotion is
- 23:02bitterness, they'll see through the lens
- 23:04of bitterness. If their emotion, if the
- 23:06if the thought and the hardwired [music]
- 23:08belief is judgment and the behavior is
- 23:10judgment, then they'll judge everything
- 23:11in their life, you know. So, transform
- 23:13them into gratitude, then there's
- 23:15they're grateful for a glass of water.
- 23:18They're grateful to be sitting with you.
- 23:19Pro-social networks turn on the brain.
- 23:21We move closer [music] to each other. We
- 23:23trust one another more. We appreciate
- 23:25the moment more. That is the natural
- 23:27state of being when we're not in stress,
- 23:29when we're not in survival, when the
- 23:31animal self [music]
- 23:32has been tamed. the divine the creative
- 23:34self kind of is birthed. So then it
- 23:36[music] is that taming process of the
- 23:38animal uh of the animal self that takes
- 23:40[music] the work make makes the work
- 23:42valid because I've seen this I've
- 23:44discovered this that at the end of seven
- 23:46days you know after four walking
- 23:48meditations after 4:00 a.m. meditations,
- 23:51me stretching them way past where they
- 23:53normally go and they're showing up for
- 23:55themselves. They're showing up. They're
- 23:56showing up. Sooner or later, they start
- 23:58feeling really worthy of their future
- 24:00[music] without trying. They just feel
- 24:02worthy like I did. I put in my time like
- 24:04universe like I'm worthy. And I think
- 24:06it's when the universe responds. So get
- 24:09basking in that feeling is basking in
- 24:11the present moment because the body's
- 24:12living in that future and it does it's
- 24:14not going to it's not going to try to
- 24:16forecast it.
- 24:16>> Stressful place. Yeah, that's right.
- 24:18Stressful place. let the details work
- 24:20out. Now the experiment though is that
- 24:22and this has happened to me and many
- 24:24people. So what if it doesn't happen in
- 24:25[music] two times but does what if it
- 24:27doesn't happen in three times? You're
- 24:28going to give up and say it didn't work
- 24:30or you're going to say what is it about
- 24:32me that I need to change in order for my
- 24:35life to change? I think that's the
- 24:36[music] really important important
- 24:38point. So if it doesn't work for 2
- 24:40weeks, you keep going. you keep going
- 24:42and you keep learning and you keep
- 24:44applying and you keep getting better and
- 24:46and then when it starts to happen and it
- 24:48happens in three weeks or four weeks
- 24:49you'll say those three weeks or four
- 24:51weeks are the best use of my time. So
- 24:53the experiment has to continue and and
- 24:55we [music] have to make time to be
- 24:57creators in our life. I think there's
- 24:59two components uh to disease really. I
- 25:02think there's a genetic component
- 25:04[music] you know and sometimes that gene
- 25:07is signaled in uterel and it's [music]
- 25:09expressed from birth. Those are tough,
- 25:12you know, juvenile onset genetic
- 25:14conditions. They're tough health
- 25:15conditions.
- 25:15>> Would you say that those tend to be
- 25:17onset early on if that's the case?
- 25:18>> They onset early is is early on and
- 25:20they're more hardwired in a sense.
- 25:22They're harder to change
- 25:23>> perhaps not really something that you
- 25:24see at [music] 45 like
- 25:27>> two
- 25:27>> or one or three. [music] It's juvenile
- 25:31onset. It's genetically signaled and
- 25:34those are tend to be a little bit more
- 25:35difficult because they're a little bit
- 25:36more hardwired like a type 1 [music]
- 25:38diabetes, right? It's it's it's it's an
- 25:41an early onset condition. Those are
- 25:43about 5 to 1% of the population, small
- 25:45percent [music] with t-ax disease or
- 25:47cickle cell anemia or type 1 diabetes.
- 25:49The other 95 to 99% [music]
- 25:51really as I said is is lifestyle. And
- 25:54the the big thing of course [music] is
- 25:57trying to keep your body physically,
- 26:00chemically and emotionally in balance.
- 26:02And when [music] if if if the autonomic
- 26:05nervous system is what regulates
- 26:07homeostasis and balance, every response
- 26:10[music] that you have emotionally to
- 26:13your environment is moving you out of
- 26:15normal homeostasis and balance. And
- 26:17that's where health exists, right? Keep
- 26:19knocking the body out of balance, that
- 26:21imbalance becomes [music] a new balance.
- 26:23And now we're headed for disease. But
- 26:25let's go a step further. What if you
- 26:27start anticipating the worst case
- 26:28scenario in your mind? You start feeling
- 26:30the anxiety of that event occurring.
- 26:32You're knocking your brain and body out
- 26:33of balance by thought alone. And now
- 26:35this is where your thoughts can
- 26:36literally make you sick because the
- 26:38long-term effects of the hormones of
- 26:39stress [music] push the genetic buttons
- 26:41that create disease. And my response to
- 26:45my coworker, my response to traffic, my
- 26:48response to my ex is actually weakening
- 26:52my organism because my body can't live
- 26:54in emergency mode for an extended period
- 26:57of time. And the response causes the
- 27:00brain to fire incoherently, causes the
- 27:03heart to fire incoherently. And now the
- 27:05autonomic nervous system is out of order
- 27:08[music] and out of regulation. And it
- 27:10controls and coordinates all other
- 27:11systems in the body. Cardiovascular
- 27:14system, the reproductive system, the
- 27:15digestive system. [music] Uh it the
- 27:18immune system. It controls it's the
- 27:20major player in sending information
- 27:22[music] to all the cells and tissues in
- 27:24the body. So it needs a cadence. It
- 27:26needs a rhythm. It needs an order.
- 27:28>> You had mentioned mission. Whether it's
- 27:30your mission that you describe or your
- 27:33calling in this life, what do you feel
- 27:35like that is? And even if you were to
- 27:36sort of summarize that to something
- 27:39short, what is your calling? [music]
- 27:40>> Yeah. I don't think much about what I do
- 27:43as a calling at all.
- 27:44>> Really?
- 27:45>> I don't I I I'm you know, I'm a really
- 27:47simple person. [music] Uh and and I'm
- 27:50sincere in just about everything that I
- 27:52do. I mean, my calling is to be to to be
- 27:54the best human I could possibly be. I
- 27:56think I think that's everybody's
- 27:58calling. [music] I think is it's to step
- 28:00out of the known into the unknown and to
- 28:02continue to create. You heal yourself.
- 28:04The next question is heal someone else.
- 28:06Heal someone else. Get that down. Heal
- 28:08someone else at a [music] distance.
- 28:10There's never an end cuz every new
- 28:12experience causes us to think about
- 28:13things we would have never thought
- 28:15before unless we had that. So I'm I'm I
- 28:18never want this work to be about [music]
- 28:19me. I want it to be about you. I want it
- 28:22to be about the person to empower the
- 28:23person that they are the creator of
- 28:26their life. That's
- 28:26>> what happened when you walked in my
- 28:28producer Jen saying you healed my asthma
- 28:30and you said no you healed [music] your
- 28:31asthma.
- 28:32>> Yeah. I want people to be empowered by
- 28:33that. I want people to walk around with
- 28:35a smile on their face that they can't
- 28:37remove because some they know something,
- 28:38you know, they know something. So my I
- 28:41think my my mission though [music] is
- 28:43really to be a part of transformation to
- 28:46to make a difference on some level. So,
- 28:48so look, my calling is really just to be
- 28:50the best human I possibly can really.
- 28:52And and I and I want this work to be
- 28:53about everybody. And and and I think
- 28:55that's [music] when I think it's when
- 28:57collective consciousness changes.
