- 0:00Getting a little rowdy in here today.
- 0:01Hallelujah.
- 0:03God is good. God is good. We got a full
- 0:05room.
- 0:06Packed house.
- 0:08Child dedications today. What a glorious
- 0:10day to be in the house of the Lord. And
- 0:12I do want to say thank you to everybody
- 0:14that is watching online today. Do me a
- 0:15favor. Make sure to drop a comment down
- 0:18below because we love to see where
- 0:19you're watching from. And if you're new
- 0:21online, make sure to click that link. It
- 0:23will help us get connected with you. And
- 0:24speaking of that, I mentioned at our
- 0:26first service today
- 0:28that just this week we received a video
- 0:31all the way from South Africa.
- 0:34South Africa of this group that gets
- 0:36together every morning out there or
- 0:39every Monday morning out there and they
- 0:40watch the reels from Authentic Church.
- 0:42And so, can we give God some praise on
- 0:45that?
- 0:46Like you never know. You never know who
- 0:48you're going to impact when you spread
- 0:50the gospel.
- 0:52But here's a here's a special
- 0:53revelation. That's not true just for
- 0:54pastors. That's true for you, too.
- 0:57Nobody clapping on that one. Listen,
- 0:59that's that's true for you, too. Like it
- 1:01shouldn't be just the pastor spreading
- 1:03the gospel. God wants to use you. He
- 1:05wants to share your testimony to other
- 1:07people. And the amazing thing about it,
- 1:09you never know who you're going to
- 1:11impact or how you're going to reach the
- 1:13world, right? And so, like I said
- 1:15earlier, we've been in this series
- 1:16titled Unstoppable. And I could be
- 1:19wrong, but I believe this is week 22.
- 1:2322.
- 1:25Probably somebody's going to come up to
- 1:26me afterwards and say, "Pastor, that was
- 1:28wrong." But I think
- 1:29I think it is week 22 or somewhere along
- 1:32the way, but I pray that it's been very
- 1:34beneficial, encouraging to you guys
- 1:36learning the entire book of Acts. We
- 1:38have been through some incredible
- 1:40stories, right? Do you understand like
- 1:42context matters, right?
- 1:44And that's why I love doing this because
- 1:45now when you look at at Ephesians, you
- 1:48understand when Paul was in Ephesus,
- 1:51he's dealing with spiritual warfare
- 1:52because they were into witchcraft. And
- 1:53that's why he says, "Hey, this is not
- 1:55always a physical fight. What? You're
- 1:57fighting principalities. You're fighting
- 1:59these dark spiritual forces around us.
- 2:01You start to understand the context. You
- 2:03start to understand the background. And
- 2:05when you hear Paul say, "Hey, I had a
- 2:07thorn in my side, and God didn't remove
- 2:09it because it's the only thing that kept
- 2:10me humble, but the gospel is still being
- 2:13spread." You now understand that he was
- 2:15in chains.
- 2:17That he had been beaten. That he had
- 2:18been falsely accused. That mobs came
- 2:21after his life. Yet, he continued to
- 2:23spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.
- 2:26And I pray that it motivates you
- 2:29as a church that we continue moving
- 2:31forward believing God for the
- 2:32impossible. Because the truth is,
- 2:34listen, the truth is this world is hard
- 2:36and life is hard.
- 2:39And if you haven't been through it yet,
- 2:40you will go through it.
- 2:42And some of y'all right now, you got a
- 2:43testimony where you just came out of it.
- 2:45And the truth is, I'm sorry to to burst
- 2:47your bubble here, you're probably going
- 2:49to go through it again
- 2:50in a different way. But God wants to
- 2:52change your perception on life. Yes,
- 2:55there will be trials, but every trial
- 2:57that comes my way is just an opportunity
- 2:59for God to show up.
- 3:01Every problem that I see in my life is
- 3:04just an opportunity for God to produce
- 3:06the miracle. I have to have my heart
- 3:07broken at times in order to understand
- 3:10how much I need him
- 3:12to heal my heart.
- 3:14To give him all the pieces. And so, this
- 3:16is what it means to be unstoppable. And
- 3:18again, the vision behind this series is
- 3:19to take a deep dive into the entire book
- 3:22of Acts. And so, if you have your
- 3:23Bibles, go ahead and turn to Acts
- 3:24chapter 27. We're going to finish the
- 3:27last two chapters, Acts chapter 27 and
- 3:30chapter 28. And I'm going to go ahead
- 3:33and give you my title today.
- 3:35You're welcome. Okay, I know that's a
- 3:36little little early, but here's the
- 3:38title. Something has to go.
- 3:43Something has to go. Do me a favor, look
- 3:46to your neighbor and tell them,
- 3:47"Something has to go."
- 3:50You've been wearing those shoes for the
- 3:52last 20 years. Something
- 3:54has I'm just kidding. We're going to go
- 3:57into some things that are deeper than
- 3:59that because I have learned I have
- 4:01learned in my life
- 4:03and throughout the Bible
- 4:05that in order to move forward, how many
- 4:07of y'all want to move forward in what
- 4:08the Lord has for you?
- 4:10In order to move forward, God may ask
- 4:12you to let go of the thing that's
- 4:13holding you back.
- 4:15And the truth is there are a lot of us
- 4:17that are holding on to the very thing
- 4:19that God told you to surrender a long
- 4:20time ago. And I think when we when we
- 4:22hear this we're like, well pastor isn't
- 4:23talking about me because surely he's
- 4:25talking about something major and we
- 4:27always think of like these major sins in
- 4:29our mind like adultery or or murder or
- 4:32all these different things, right? But
- 4:33listen, sometimes God is telling you to
- 4:35surrender your control.
- 4:37Because you want to trust the Lord, but
- 4:39at the same time you want to be in
- 4:40involved with that and make all the
- 4:42plans with the Lord and kind of call the
- 4:43shots a little bit and that's not how it
- 4:45works.
- 4:46You're telling God, God I'll do that if
- 4:48don't you ever tell God if.
- 4:51If you tell God if, God's going to be
- 4:52like, get out there. You know what I
- 4:53mean? Like go ahead and do what I told
- 4:55you to do because it's going to happen
- 4:56anyway, right? And so we have to learn
- 4:58to be led by the Holy Spirit. I'm just
- 5:00telling you along the way along the way
- 5:03to the destination, there's going to be
- 5:04some trials of things where God is
- 5:06telling you to let go of the very thing
- 5:08you're holding on to and sometimes
- 5:09listen, sometimes that's your backup
- 5:11plan.
- 5:14Sometimes it's your plan B or even your
- 5:16plan C.
- 5:18The question that I have for you today
- 5:19is do you truly trust the Lord
- 5:22with your life
- 5:23with your future? And so we see that
- 5:25here with Paul and just to refresh your
- 5:26memory because last week we're in a lot
- 5:28of chapters out of the book of Acts. I
- 5:29believe it's from chapters 21 to 27
- 5:33and and we learn that uh Paul goes into
- 5:35Jerusalem. He is quickly spotted, okay?
- 5:38And people start to come after him and
- 5:39so he's beaten, he's arrested, he's
- 5:41placed on trial, he's in he's in front
- 5:43of a a few governors or a couple
- 5:45governors. He's also in front of a king
- 5:46and he keeps spreading the gospel of
- 5:48Jesus Christ. But Paul knows, okay, cuz
- 5:51he got the opportunity to go back to
- 5:52Jerusalem, and they thought this would
- 5:54help him live, but he knows if he goes
- 5:55back to Jerusalem, the Jews are going to
- 5:57kill him. So, he appeals to Caesar
- 6:00because he is a Roman citizen. And so,
- 6:02this is his right. He says, "I appeal to
- 6:04Caesar." And so, that's where we left
- 6:05off. So, now in Acts chapter 27, Paul is
- 6:09on his way to Rome,
- 6:11but he's a prisoner.
- 6:14Oh, man.
- 6:15Let me tell you something really good
- 6:17today.
- 6:18There may be things that happen in your
- 6:19life that may surprise you, but nothing
- 6:22surprises the Lord.
- 6:24And by his goodness, there are times in
- 6:26our life where he will actually tell you
- 6:28a warning or what is coming for a
- 6:30reason. Paul wasn't surprised by this.
- 6:33Why? Because God already revealed it to
- 6:35him.
- 6:36Acts chapter 23, verse 11. You remember
- 6:38this?
- 6:39That night, while Paul was in prison,
- 6:42the Lord appeared to Paul and said, "Be
- 6:44encouraged, Paul.
- 6:45Just as you have been a witness to me
- 6:47here in Jerusalem, you must preach the
- 6:50good news in Rome as well."
- 6:54Jesus gives you an assignment. We talked
- 6:55about that. Jesus also gives you a
- 6:57destination. Now, here's the problem.
- 6:59Here's a Here's the thing we struggle
- 7:01with. Jesus will give you a destination,
- 7:03but it doesn't mean getting there is
- 7:04going to be easy.
- 7:07Y'all hear me this morning? Okay.
- 7:09It's going to be hard.
- 7:11I I need y'all to hear me. People will
- 7:13come after you. Sometimes financially,
- 7:16it looks like you don't have enough
- 7:17money to do it. It seems impossible. You
- 7:20don't know how the door is going to
- 7:22open, but again, that's how you start to
- 7:24see miracles in your life
- 7:26by trusting the Lord. So, in Acts
- 7:28chapter 27 now, Paul is on his way as a
- 7:32prisoner to Italy. All right? And he's
- 7:34sailing across the Mediterranean Sea,
- 7:37right? And immediately, there are these
- 7:39strong winds.
- 7:41The weather gets bad. It's close to
- 7:43winter, it is cold, and Paul's kind of
- 7:45looking around like, "Hey guys, um
- 7:49I'm not speaking prophetically here, but
- 7:50I just think this is a bad idea.
- 7:52I think it's a bad idea for us to sail
- 7:54right now
- 7:55across the sea. It seems dangerous. We
- 7:58could lose our lives." So, I want you to
- 8:00hear this in Acts chapter 27, 10 through
- 8:0313.
- 8:04"Men," he said,
- 8:06"I believe there is trouble ahead if we
- 8:08keep going on.
- 8:10Shipwreck.
- 8:11That's bad. Loss of cargo. And the
- 8:14danger
- 8:16danger to our lives as well."
- 8:18But the officer in charge of the
- 8:21prisoners listened more to the ship's
- 8:23captain and the owner than to Paul. And
- 8:26since Fair Haven was an exposed harbor,
- 8:28a poor place to spend the winter, most
- 8:31of the crew wanted to go to Phoenix,
- 8:33farther up the coast of Crete, and spend
- 8:35the winter there. Let me ask you this
- 8:37question. Have you ever wanted to yell
- 8:39at somebody
- 8:40because they're not listening to you?
- 8:42And and it's pretty obvious, too.
- 8:45Like, that's a red light, you need to
- 8:46stop. That's a red light, you need to
- 8:47slow What are you doing? Slow down.
- 8:50Right? Every husband in the room knows
- 8:51what that feels like.
- 8:53No pointing. Anyway,
- 8:55um but but I I imagine in this scene,
- 8:57Paul is like, "Guys, this is a very
- 8:59dangerous idea." But there are people,
- 9:01right, that are just kind of like, "Ah,
- 9:02it's no big deal. It's no big deal.
- 9:04Like, it's it's it's okay. We're going
- 9:06to make it."
- 9:07And I I feel like that's how they
- 9:10they saw this because they were so
- 9:12determined.
- 9:13And I can relate to this. I I I fall
- 9:15into this, too. You're so determined to
- 9:16get where you want to go.
- 9:18You don't care that nothing's in order
- 9:20sometimes.
- 9:22And and I get in trouble with this even
- 9:23in my own home because my wife will be
- 9:25looking at the ceiling sometimes like,
- 9:26"I think we got a leak."
- 9:29And I'm like, "I I think it's good.
- 9:31We're okay.
- 9:32Everything's good. Hey, the car was
- 9:34making like a funny sound last night."
- 9:35It's good. I drove it all day, too. It's
- 9:37fine. The kids are throwing up, just
- 9:39tell them to go outside. It's fine.
- 9:41Everything's fine. Some of us are living
- 9:43life just like that. Everything's fine.
- 9:45Everything's fine. Knowing that it's not
- 9:47fine. And so, again, Paul's not speaking
- 9:49prophetically here. He's using common
- 9:51sense. He's like, "Guys, it's not a good
- 9:53idea for us to go. The storm is coming,
- 9:56and we could die." Mhm.
- 10:00But, they didn't listen to Paul.
- 10:02And notice this, Acts chapter 27, verse
- 10:0414. But, the weather changed abruptly.
- 10:08I love how the Bible puts it there.
- 10:10They start sailing, thinking
- 10:12everything's okay. And then, just like
- 10:14that,
- 10:15the weather starts to change. And a wind
- 10:18of a typhoon strength called a
- 10:19northeaster burst across the island and
- 10:23blew us out to the sea. Now,
- 10:26I want you to hear verses 18 through 20.
- 10:28The next day, as gale-force winds
- 10:31continued to batter the ship,
- 10:35the crew began throwing the cargo
- 10:38overboard. What did Paul say?
- 10:41"Hey guys, I believe it's going to be
- 10:42bad. We may have to throw some of our
- 10:44stuff overboard. We can lose our lives."
- 10:46Here it is. The crew began throwing the
- 10:48cargo overboard, and the following day,
- 10:51they even took some of the ship's gear
- 10:53and threw it overboard. The terrible
- 10:55storm raged for many days,
- 10:59blotting out the sun and the stars.
- 11:02And so, they can barely see where
- 11:04they're going. The rain is heavy, the
- 11:06wind is strong. They feel like they're
- 11:08about to die, right? And you can't even
- 11:11see the light or the stars. It's
- 11:13completely pitch dark. Can you imagine
- 11:15how scary this is?
- 11:17Like, can you see this?
- 11:18But, then,
- 11:20but then, I want you to hear the last
- 11:22last verse right here. This is what
- 11:23stood out to me.
- 11:25Until at last,
- 11:27all hope was gone.
- 11:31I'm reading the story, and that's just
- 11:33the Lord told me to pause.
- 11:36What do you do when you feel like all
- 11:37your hope is gone?
- 11:40What do you do when you feel like you're
- 11:41in such a storm, such a dark situation
- 11:44that it already feels like you're dead?
- 11:48I mean, you're not thriving. You're just
- 11:49barely getting by at this point. You're
- 11:51barely breathing. You're just trying to
- 11:52make way, right? And it feels like the
- 11:54storm is crashing and beating against
- 11:56you. You feel like you're falling apart
- 11:58and you've been praying. That's That's
- 12:00the thing though.
- 12:01Like I'm not saying you're not praying.
- 12:02We We pray all the time, but still we're
- 12:04not always seeing things change and
- 12:06that's really hard. God, I'm praying,
- 12:08but financially like I'm still I'm still
- 12:10struggling with this situation.
- 12:12God, I'm believing, but nothing has
- 12:14changed. Things keep getting worse and
- 12:16in fact the diagnosis
- 12:19IT'S STILL HERE.
- 12:22AND AND I wake up some days in in
- 12:23complete pain.
- 12:25And I'm hurting and I just I just
- 12:27thought
- 12:31I just thought you would heal me by now.
- 12:32I thought you would rescue me by now. I
- 12:35thought you would bring me into a
- 12:36relationship by now. I thought
- 12:39I thought, right? It's It gets hard.
- 12:41The situation
- 12:43the situation is making you doubt God
- 12:45now. Let's change perception here.
- 12:48Let me ask this question. What if the
- 12:50situation
- 12:52that is causing you to doubt God is
- 12:54actually the situation that's going to
- 12:55cause you to see how good he is?
- 12:58Oh, I'm telling you right now. Change
- 13:00perception because again, you don't get
- 13:02a miracle without a what?
- 13:04Without a problem. Without a situation.
- 13:07So, the very situation in your life
- 13:09that's making you question who God is is
- 13:12actually the situation where God shows
- 13:14his full character. Shows his love.
- 13:17Shows his grace. Shows you that even in
- 13:19the middle of a storm, he can rescue
- 13:21you.
- 13:22When you got nothing together.
- 13:25God can bring it all together.
- 13:28Okay, so let's continue the story here
- 13:29because what I want to show you, too,
- 13:32Paul teaches us
- 13:33how to hold on to hope.
- 13:35And it's really, really powerful, okay?
- 13:38But I want you to see in Acts 27:21,
- 13:40finally, Paul called the crew together
- 13:41and said, "Men,
- 13:43this is funny to me. Men, before he gets
- 13:45into the revelation, you should have
- 13:46listened to me.
- 13:49I told you
- 13:51>> [laughter]
- 13:51>> I told YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE that if we
- 13:53left Crete,
- 13:55we could have avoided all this damage
- 13:57and loss. You should have listened to
- 14:00me."
- 14:01I told you not to buy that credit card.
- 14:04I told you not to get into that
- 14:05relationship. I told you so. How many of
- 14:07y'all would just love to just tell that
- 14:09person, "I told you so."
- 14:11Don't do it here, do it later.
- 14:14I told you it was a bad idea.
- 14:17But
- 14:19don't miss this.
- 14:21Because right after that, he reveals the
- 14:23key in holding on to hope when it feels
- 14:25like the storm is coming after you.
- 14:27Verses [snorts] 22 through 26, but take
- 14:30courage.
- 14:32None of you will lose your lives. Even
- 14:34though the ship will go down. Underline
- 14:38that right there. He is clarifying. God
- 14:41promised to save us, he didn't promise
- 14:44to save the ship.
- 14:46See, see, this is where we battle. We're
- 14:49trying to get there, but we're losing
- 14:51things along the way. And we're like,
- 14:53"God, why aren't you helping me?" "Oh,
- 14:54I'm helping you. You're still alive."
- 14:57You made some bad decisions, right? In
- 14:59fact, here's what I want to praise God
- 15:01with. I thank God that he is so good. He
- 15:04can use our wisdom for his glory, right?
- 15:07Amen to that?
- 15:10Okay.
- 15:11Thank God he is so good. He can use our
- 15:14stupidity for his glory, too.
- 15:17Come on, I got to I got to praise God
- 15:19for all the stupid decisions that I made
- 15:21in my life and God still rescued me and
- 15:24brought me out of it. Now, I'm not
- 15:25giving you an excuse to make bad
- 15:27decisions. I'm just stating that your
- 15:29bad decisions don't have to be the end
- 15:30of the story.
- 15:32Don't have to be the end of your story.
- 15:33God can rescue you from that, but he can
- 15:35take the good and the bad and still use
- 15:38it all for his glory. In fact, the enemy
- 15:40can come after you.
- 15:41People can have ill intentions against
- 15:44you, want to hurt you, and and still,
- 15:46just like Joseph said, my God can take
- 15:48what you intended to harm me and still
- 15:50use it for the the good.
- 15:53But along the way, listen, you might
- 15:54lose some things.
- 15:57It doesn't mean that God's not there.
- 15:59You may lose some things along the way.
- 16:00Why? Because God is protecting you. But
- 16:02Paul said for last night an angel
- 16:05an angel of the God to whom I belong and
- 16:07whom I serve stood beside me.
- 16:10And he said, "Don't be afraid, Paul,
- 16:13for you will surely stand trial before
- 16:15Caesar."
- 16:17Now, listen to this right here. What's
- 16:18more, what's more, God in his goodness
- 16:21has granted safety to everyone sailing
- 16:23with you. So, take courage. Okay.
- 16:27You reading what I'm reading?
- 16:29When you're walking in obedience
- 16:32and God has put a hedge of protection
- 16:34over you. Hedge of protection is an
- 16:35angelic protection around you. Angels
- 16:38are actually guarding you, guiding you.
- 16:40When you're walking in obedience, there
- 16:42are going to be some people around you
- 16:44that will be protected just because
- 16:46you're walking with God.
- 16:49Okay.
- 16:50The same thing is true on the other
- 16:51side.
- 16:52Because again, remember the story of
- 16:54Jonah?
- 16:55You can disobey the Lord, too,
- 16:57and it can also cause a storm in others'
- 16:59lives
- 17:01because of what you decide to do. The
- 17:02truth is you have a choice today. You
- 17:03have a choice today. You're going to
- 17:05follow the world or you're going to
- 17:06follow Jesus. You can't do both.
- 17:09You can't do both. Why? Why can't I do
- 17:10both, pastor? Because Jesus said, "If
- 17:12you follow me, the world is going to
- 17:13hate you."
- 17:15Jesus also said you cannot serve two
- 17:16masters. You want to know why? You will
- 17:18love one, you will hate the other.
- 17:20Notice that Jesus does not say you will
- 17:21love one, you will tolerate the other.
- 17:24He made it very clear. No, you will love
- 17:26one, you'll be devoted to one, and then
- 17:28you will hate the other cuz they will
- 17:30always talk about the other one. YOU
- 17:31CAN'T BE COMMITTED TO BOTH SIDES. That's
- 17:34what makes you double-minded. So, you
- 17:36have to follow the Lord. All right. So,
- 17:38we see this. We see this.
- 17:41He says, "You're going to be saved."
- 17:44Because God is protecting me on this
- 17:45journey, and we're walking in obedience.
- 17:47I know we're in a storm, but God is
- 17:48still protecting us. Now, okay.
- 17:52How do you hold on to hope?
- 17:54Here's the answer.
- 17:56For I believe God.
- 17:59And it will be just as he said.
- 18:03Okay.
- 18:06When it feels like you're crashing,
- 18:09and it feels like the storm is about to
- 18:11make you sink, you still have a choice.
- 18:16And either you're going to believe the
- 18:18hopelessness that you hear,
- 18:21or you're going to believe God's word.
- 18:24The people here, the sailors, the
- 18:26commanders, they're distracted with the
- 18:29storm, but Paul is standing on the word.
- 18:33I'll say it like this, Paul is standing
- 18:34on business.
- 18:35Okay? He's standing on the word. He's
- 18:38not looking at the storm. He says, "I
- 18:39already KNOW WHAT MY GOD SAID."
- 18:42MHM. MHM. AND WHEN YOU KNOW what God
- 18:44said, why would you be afraid of the
- 18:46atmosphere?
- 18:47Okay. Okay.
- 18:49All right.
- 18:51But it's still hard. It's still hard.
- 18:53When life is crashing around you. So, I
- 18:55I made some points here. The first point
- 18:56is this, and I kind of had some
- 18:58subpoints with it. A lot of points
- 19:00today. But point number one is this, you
- 19:02don't need an alternative to God.
- 19:05The truth is,
- 19:07when it feels like God is not doing it
- 19:09fast enough,
- 19:10when it feels like God is not rescuing
- 19:12you the way that you want him to rescue
- 19:14you right now, you will be tempted
- 19:18with an alternative plan,
- 19:20a backup plan to do your own thing and
- 19:21try to take control.
- 19:23Okay? And I'm telling you right now, you
- 19:25will be tempted to take control and it
- 19:27will lead to your destruction.
- 19:29By verse 27, I want you to hear the
- 19:31context here. They have been in the
- 19:32storm now for 14 nights. It is cold. It
- 19:36is scary. They have not eaten also.
- 19:39They're too scared to eat. So, they have
- 19:41not eaten.
- 19:43And believing God's word is getting
- 19:45harder and harder.
- 19:48So, notice the STORM KEEPS COMING. PAUL
- 19:50SAYS, "I know what my Lord has spoken."
- 19:53But they're thinking, "Yeah, but the
- 19:54storm is still here."
- 19:56I I can't even eat. I can't rest. I
- 19:58still feel like I'm about to die. And
- 20:01so, some of the sailors decided to take
- 20:03matters into their own hands
- 20:05and they try to secretly escape.
- 20:08Here's a warning.
- 20:09Listen to me on this. When you stop
- 20:12trusting God, you start trying to save
- 20:14yourself.
- 20:16And I'm telling you right now, that is a
- 20:19a recipe for disaster.
- 20:21Acts 27:28-30 states it like this, "They
- 20:24dropped a weighted line
- 20:26and found that the water was 120 ft
- 20:28deep.
- 20:29But a little later, they measured again
- 20:32and found it was only 90 ft deep. And at
- 20:35this rate, they were afraid we would
- 20:37soon be driven against the rocks along
- 20:39the shore. So, they threw out the four
- 20:41anchors from the back of the ship and
- 20:43prayed for daylight." Now, now listen to
- 20:45this right here. Then the sailors
- 20:48Let me say it like this.
- 20:50The ones steering the ship
- 20:53decided and tried to abandon the ship.
- 20:57They lowered the lifeboat as though they
- 21:00were going to put out anchors
- 21:03from the front of the ship and they were
- 21:05going to try to escape. I want you to
- 21:06think about this for a second. The
- 21:07people who are in charge of getting you
- 21:10to your destination safely
- 21:14are trying to jump ship
- 21:16secretly. That's like imagine being on a
- 21:18plane.
- 21:20Okay? And and the pilot comes out with a
- 21:22parachute. Later. And just
- 21:25>> [laughter]
- 21:26>> What ARE YOU DOING?
- 21:28WHY WHY DID YOU JUMP OUT OF THE PLANE?
- 21:30THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE TRYING TO DO.
- 21:31They're looking for the life boat.
- 21:34Because they stop believing in what God
- 21:36said.
- 21:39Okay.
- 21:40All right. I got to get down for a
- 21:41second.
- 21:42Because I'm thinking they're looking
- 21:43over the ship
- 21:45and they start thinking to themselves,
- 21:47my plan
- 21:49Oh, my plan sounds better than God's
- 21:51plan with that Paul.
- 21:53And so we got some lifeboats here and I
- 21:56can get in the lifeboat and I can be
- 21:58safe. What they don't know is this, the
- 22:00very plan that they have to save
- 22:02themselves will actually lead to
- 22:04everybody's destruction.
- 22:06Can actually lead to everybody's death.
- 22:09All right. So, listen to what Paul says
- 22:11because this is big right here. Acts
- 22:1327:31-32.
- 22:15But Paul said to the commanding officer
- 22:17and the soldiers, you're going to die.
- 22:20That's pretty much what he says here. He
- 22:22says, you're going to die. I'm going to
- 22:24die. We're all going to die unless the
- 22:26sailors stay aboard. And then verse 32
- 22:29is one another scripture that stood out
- 22:30to me. The soldiers cut the rope
- 22:34to the lifeboat
- 22:36and let it drift away.
- 22:39Two Two revelations here. Go ahead and
- 22:41bring that scripture back, please.
- 22:42Two revelations here.
- 22:45Paul is saying
- 22:47your getaway plan
- 22:49your plan B
- 22:50you taking control
- 22:52is going to lead to everybody's death.
- 22:55But it's still a temptation.
- 22:57Because you can't fool yourself and not
- 22:59think, all right, if you know or think
- 23:01you're about to die
- 23:02you'd be looking for a lifeboat, too,
- 23:04right? It It kind of makes sense. Like,
- 23:06okay,
- 23:06>> [laughter]
- 23:06>> I think we're going under. I don't know
- 23:08if I can believe this Paul guy. I need
- 23:09to be looking for a lifeboat. It makes
- 23:11sense, but just because it makes sense
- 23:12doesn't mean that it came from God.
- 23:15Okay? Now, God is a God of order, all
- 23:17right? But at the same time, when we
- 23:19move by faith, faith is not always going
- 23:21to make sense. So, the lifeboat, listen,
- 23:25the lifeboat, the second option, taking
- 23:28control, is a temptation. And so, what
- 23:31does he say? He says, "Cut the rope."
- 23:35I need you to hear me on this,
- 23:36spiritually. Okay? Cut the rope to the
- 23:39thing that is tempting you, the plan B,
- 23:42and let it drift.
- 23:44Let it drift away. Let it get away from
- 23:46you, all right? Because again,
- 23:49Paul is making it clear. He's saying,
- 23:51"Listen, they're the ones that are
- 23:52supposed to sail us all the way to where
- 23:54we need to be. If they're not here, we
- 23:56die. This doesn't work. Everybody's
- 23:58dead. You got to cut the rope, which
- 24:00also is another revelation. God's
- 24:03promise that they would all survive does
- 24:05not eliminate the responsibility to
- 24:08follow the Lord."
- 24:11Meaning,
- 24:12just because God said he would do it,
- 24:15doesn't mean you can do anything you
- 24:16want to do.
- 24:18There's still obedience. Obedience is
- 24:20still part of the plan.
- 24:22God is stating to Paul and everybody,
- 24:24"I'm going to get you to Rome, but
- 24:25everybody has to play their part." So
- 24:28many times, we just walk away from what
- 24:30God is doing, thinking, "Well, he said
- 24:32it. I'll just end up there." Like you're
- 24:33eating Cheetos on the couch, thinking
- 24:35one day you're going to step into the
- 24:36miracle.
- 24:37And I like Cheetos, okay? It's probably
- 24:40what I'm going to do today after the
- 24:41service. But,
- 24:43but we can't just sit on the couch all
- 24:44day long.
- 24:46But God said he's going to do it in my
- 24:48life. God said he's going to bring me
- 24:49into a relationship. I believe the Lord.
- 24:51Well, you still got to walk out the
- 24:52door.
- 24:54Like you STILL GOT TO
- 24:56YOU STILL GOT TO PURSUE. You still got
- 24:57to you got to seek, you got to listen to
- 24:59the Lord.
- 25:00Can't just just stay around.
- 25:04But it's relatable because
- 25:06it made me think how many of us have a a
- 25:08life boat.
- 25:11How many of us in this room right now we
- 25:12have a backup plan?
- 25:15Because we're too afraid to trust God
- 25:17completely. I'm going to teach you some
- 25:18revelations about this. This is where my
- 25:19subpoints come from. First revelation it
- 25:21says sometimes you have to cut off what
- 25:23you keep running to.
- 25:25Acts 27:32,
- 25:27the soldiers cut the ropes to the
- 25:29lifeboat and let it drift away meaning
- 25:32they made sure it was no longer an
- 25:34option. How do you get rid of the
- 25:35temptation? Make sure that it's no
- 25:37longer an option. Guard your heart,
- 25:40guard your eyes, guard where you are,
- 25:42what atmosphere you're in. Make sure if
- 25:45it's bringing you down, make sure if
- 25:47it's no longer an option.
- 25:50Get away from it, run away from it.
- 25:52There are things in the Bible talks
- 25:53about this, there are things in your
- 25:54life you cannot handle, especially lust.
- 25:57So don't play with the lion of it, run
- 25:59away from it.
- 26:01Because otherwise you're going to fall
- 26:02into the temptation.
- 26:05And I say this over and over again, but
- 26:06why would you run to it if you're
- 26:07struggling with it?
- 26:09Why would why would you play with it?
- 26:10Why would you even be close to it?
- 26:13And so
- 26:14some examples of this are are
- 26:16relationships. See, we're asking God for
- 26:18a breakthrough.
- 26:19We're asking God for a breakthrough, but
- 26:20we're still holding on to things.
- 26:22Relationships and and I believe somebody
- 26:25in here you know what's unhealthy.
- 26:27You know you keep compromising.
- 26:30But every time you get lonely you go
- 26:31back into something God told you to
- 26:32release.
- 26:34Now
- 26:35I understand this and I'm I'm saying
- 26:37this with love. I understand this and
- 26:38how you feel.
- 26:40But I've heard this and I I just want to
- 26:42clarify.
- 26:43There are people going back to toxic
- 26:45relationships
- 26:47because they would rather be with the
- 26:48wrong person than be alone with God.
- 26:53Again, a a recipe for disaster and
- 26:56heartbreak and hurt.
- 27:00God is love, right?
- 27:02So, how do you know how to love without
- 27:03God? Been in the center of every
- 27:05relationship because his love looks
- 27:07different from the love of the world.
- 27:08The love of the world's going to tell
- 27:09you if it feels good, go after it. And
- 27:11how many of you know that your emotions
- 27:12can change instantly? But but God's love
- 27:15is a self-sacrifice. He gave his life
- 27:17for you, which means sometimes you're
- 27:19going to lead and you're going to bleed
- 27:21for the people that you love. Sometimes
- 27:22you're going to give up the things that
- 27:23you actually want to do to do things for
- 27:25other people. This is a sacrificial love
- 27:28that we can only learn from Jesus
- 27:29Christ. This is how we love each other
- 27:31better.
- 27:33And when you love God, you will love
- 27:34your spouse better. You will love your
- 27:36family better. You will love your
- 27:37children better. You will even love
- 27:39people that don't love you back.
- 27:42And that's hard.
- 27:44>> [laughter]
- 27:45>> That's another sermon. Uh
- 27:48Let me keep going here. All right.
- 27:49Because some of y'all cuz I get it. I
- 27:51get it. Some of us are well, that's not
- 27:52me, pastor. I've been married for 40
- 27:53years. I'm good on that. All right. What
- 27:54about finances?
- 27:57It's good to plan ahead for the future.
- 27:59It's good to save up. These things are
- 28:00good things. But here's where it gets
- 28:02dangerous. When your peace comes from
- 28:04how much you have in the bank account
- 28:06more than your faith in God.
- 28:08And and I'm telling you right now, God's
- 28:10going to challenge that at some time.
- 28:11You you may have it planned out for the
- 28:13vacation. You may have it planned out
- 28:14for your future. And God may say, but
- 28:16what if you give it to that person to
- 28:17help them cuz they're struggling?
- 28:20What if you give it to my church because
- 28:22we're building and I'm I'm leading
- 28:23people right now to me? What if you give
- 28:26it to them? What if you give it to this
- 28:27situation? But you may say, but but God,
- 28:30>> [laughter]
- 28:31>> that that goes against my plan. Well,
- 28:32who do you trust? Who gave you
- 28:35the money that's in your account? See,
- 28:37see the Lord really worked with me
- 28:39on this. He's showed me so much grace. I
- 28:40struggled with this for years
- 28:42years of my life.
- 28:44Um
- 28:45And the crazy thing is it was the year
- 28:46of evangelism that I learned that my
- 28:48money comes from the Lord.
- 28:50When I no longer had the comfort of a a
- 28:52paycheck every 2 weeks from a church and
- 28:54I had to rely completely on miracles for
- 28:56God to provide,
- 28:58I learned that the Lord always provides.
- 29:01And you may work for it, but listen, the
- 29:02Lord still provided it.
- 29:04And I'm just telling you I'm preparing
- 29:05you. What if God said, "You know what?
- 29:06Give a little more. Do a little more. Do
- 29:08something." And and I'm telling you cuz
- 29:10I struggled with this. God, how I can't
- 29:12give. I can't give. And here's what the
- 29:13Lord convicted me, but I gave you my
- 29:15son.
- 29:18And you're telling me you're going to
- 29:19stand before my altar one day,
- 29:22my throne,
- 29:23and you've invested into Netflix,
- 29:25and you've invested into fast food, and
- 29:28you've invested into gyms, and you've
- 29:29invested all these things, but you never
- 29:31invested in my house?
- 29:34I don't want that.
- 29:35God convicted me on that.
- 29:37One more thing. What about control?
- 29:38Let's go back to this. I told you I'm
- 29:39going for everybody.
- 29:42>> [laughter]
- 29:43>> Hide your kids. Hide your wife. We're
- 29:44going for everybody. Okay.
- 29:47Sorry, Lord. Uh
- 29:48>> [snorts]
- 29:49>> All right. What about control? You want
- 29:51to follow God, but again, you want to
- 29:52also call all the shots.
- 29:54Proverbs 3:5 states, "Trust the Lord
- 29:56with all your heart. Do not depend on
- 29:59your understanding."
- 30:01Your own plans, your own understanding.
- 30:02Why? BECAUSE GOD IS DOING SOMETHING THAT
- 30:04IS impossible for you to do.
- 30:07And so you got to trust him.
- 30:09All right. Second revelation is this.
- 30:11Just because it looks safe doesn't mean
- 30:13it's God's will.
- 30:15All right? A a lifeboat looked like the
- 30:17safer option, but an opportunity to
- 30:19leave is not always permission from God
- 30:21to leave.
- 30:23We don't like that. Let me let me say it
- 30:24again though. But an opportunity to
- 30:26leave is not always permission from God
- 30:27to leave.
- 30:29Again, remember Jonah.
- 30:32Jonah was called to Nineveh. He tried to
- 30:34escape to Tarsus. Um the boat was there.
- 30:37He could have said, "Well, the boat's
- 30:38available.
- 30:40The boat gives me permission to leave.
- 30:41It's a way out. Listen, just because
- 30:43this ship is available doesn't mean God
- 30:45sent it.
- 30:47You hear me on this?
- 30:50And so you got to trust the Lord.
- 30:53But we're still holding on to things
- 30:54that God told us to let go of. And and
- 30:56again, Paul said, "If you want to
- 30:57survive, stay in the boat." It doesn't
- 30:59make sense.
- 31:01Like if you're going through it and
- 31:02you're really dealing with it, then the
- 31:03last thing you would think of is stay in
- 31:05the boat.
- 31:06Right?
- 31:07Paul's like, "If you want to live, if
- 31:09everybody wants to live, stay in the
- 31:10boat. Cut the rope to the lifeboat, to
- 31:13the plan B, to all these other things."
- 31:18You got to let go.
- 31:20Mike, can we come up here real quick?
- 31:23Let's give Mike a hand for helping me
- 31:25with this illustration real quick.
- 31:27>> [applause]
- 31:27>> Oh, handsome dude right here. By the
- 31:28way, ladies, he's single. Just letting
- 31:30you know.
- 31:34He's like, "That got old in the first
- 31:35service, Dad." Okay. All right.
- 31:37But I started thinking cuz this is what
- 31:39we do. All right, hold it tight. God, I
- 31:41want to move forward.
- 31:43Right? I want to move forward. I want to
- 31:45be all that you told me to be. I want to
- 31:47move into the promise.
- 31:49But you're still holding on to the very
- 31:51thing God told you to let go of.
- 31:53And this is what it looks like
- 31:54spiritually. This is why you feel stuck.
- 31:56And so we could all fill in the blank.
- 31:58Maybe it's relationships. Maybe it's
- 32:00finances. Maybe it's bitterness. You've
- 32:03been mad for 20 years.
- 32:07And every time you see that person, it
- 32:08just
- 32:09kills you.
- 32:12You got this anger and this bitterness.
- 32:14And so hold hold it tight. Hold it
- 32:16tight. And you're wondering, "God, how
- 32:17come I can never move? How come I can
- 32:19never move?" And sometimes you even
- 32:20struggle with it. Struggle with it. And
- 32:22it's crazy.
- 32:24What is forgiveness? It's It's forward
- 32:25giving over to the Lord. It's
- 32:30It's letting go.
- 32:33Crazy.
- 32:35So many of us are holding on to these
- 32:37things that are hurting us.
- 32:40And the only way to overcome the
- 32:42temptation, again,
- 32:44Acts 27:32,
- 32:46the soldiers cut the rope.
- 32:49And the lifeboat drifts away. The only
- 32:52way for you to surrender everything over
- 32:54to Jesus is to finally realize you got
- 32:57to let go,
- 32:58forgive, give it to God,
- 33:01and then eventually
- 33:03cut the rope.
- 33:06It's the only way for you to move
- 33:07forward.
- 33:09Otherwise, you're always going to feel
- 33:10stuck. You're always going to feel like
- 33:11you're you're fighting. Can we give one
- 33:13more round of applause for Micah? Thank
- 33:15you, buddy.
- 33:16>> [applause]
- 33:17>> And I know it's a it's it's a simple
- 33:18illustration, but I think it just shows
- 33:21us the picture perfectly how we feel.
- 33:23I'm stuck and I'm trying to get there
- 33:25and God's telling YOU LET IT GO.
- 33:28BUT I CAN'T LET IT GO.
- 33:30NOT IN THE STORM.
- 33:33I'm trying so hard to get out of the
- 33:34boat. And maybe the boat
- 33:37is the thing that's saving you at the
- 33:38moment.
- 33:40And so
- 33:42here's my last point and this is
- 33:44this is what's so good, okay?
- 33:46Listen to this.
- 33:48There's a storm for a reason.
- 33:52There is a storm. All right, let me
- 33:54clarify
- 33:56because so many times we think there's a
- 33:57storm in our life because we're doing
- 33:59something wrong.
- 34:01Yes, storms can come, problems will come
- 34:03based on your choices, especially
- 34:05disobedience against God. But the truth
- 34:07is biblically also Jesus may send you
- 34:10into a storm on purpose.
- 34:12Again, I told you the only way to see
- 34:14Jesus walk on water is to be in a storm.
- 34:17The only way to see the miracles of God
- 34:19sometimes is to be in the middle of that
- 34:21storm to cry out to him. And so as they
- 34:23reach the shore,
- 34:25the front of the ship slams into the
- 34:27ground beneath the water. All right, so
- 34:29the the ship gets stuck and the waves
- 34:31start tearing the ship apart. And this
- 34:33is crazy to me. Like 14 days, right?
- 34:36They've been
- 34:37in the sea and then the rain's coming,
- 34:39they think they're about to die. And now
- 34:40the ship IS LITERALLY TEARING APART
- 34:42BECAUSE AGAIN, GOD SAID, "I will save
- 34:44you." But he didn't say he would save
- 34:46the ship. And so now they got to get to
- 34:47the island. And the soldiers are
- 34:49starting to discuss with themselves, "We
- 34:51can't let the prisoners get to this
- 34:52island called Malta.
- 34:54We got to kill them." So Paul was almost
- 34:56killed by the soldiers.
- 34:57And the commander is like, "No, no, no.
- 34:59Let him go. He's okay." And so he let
- 35:01all the prisoners go to this island
- 35:03called Malta. Let me make it very clear.
- 35:05Nobody wanted to go to Malta.
- 35:09Like have you ever been there?
- 35:10Meaning like in your life have you been
- 35:12in a place you never wanted to be at?
- 35:15Wasn't part of the destination? Wasn't
- 35:17part of your plan? BUT A STORM CAME,
- 35:19SHIPWRECK.
- 35:21Everything messed up and now you're on
- 35:22this little island called Malta.
- 35:25You're there with people you've never
- 35:26met before wondering, "God, how did I
- 35:28get here?" Here's some encouragement for
- 35:30you today. The ship can be breaking
- 35:32apart, but God's promise still stands.
- 35:36Oh man. Okay.
- 35:39Okay.
- 35:42And let me say this, too.
- 35:45Just when you think
- 35:47just when you think it can't get any
- 35:49worse,
- 35:51it got worse.
- 35:53Acts 28 verses 1 through 4.
- 35:56Once we were safe on shore,
- 35:58we learned that we were on the island of
- 35:59Malta.
- 36:00The people of the island were very kind
- 36:02to us, but it was cold and rainy. So
- 36:05they built a fire on the shore to
- 36:06welcome us. As Paul gathered an armful
- 36:09of sticks, Paul is saying, "Hey, these
- 36:11people are nice. Let me help them. Let
- 36:13me get some sticks for the fire." And
- 36:15then what happened?
- 36:17A poisonous snake. Would you be like,
- 36:19"Come on!"
- 36:21IT'S LIKE THIS IS COMICAL.
- 36:24>> [laughter]
- 36:24>> LIKE AM I ON CAMERA or something? Like
- 36:26this has been an awful day.
- 36:28An awful few days. Everything is going
- 36:32wrong.
- 36:34And again, this woman tempted to go to
- 36:35our backup plan. Can I Can I say this?
- 36:39You know what's crazy? When I decided to
- 36:41go into full-time ministry,
- 36:44people would ask me, "All right, what's
- 36:45your degree going to be?" And I'd say,
- 36:47"Leadership. Ministry leadership is what
- 36:48I want my bachelor's in."
- 36:51And then they would say, "Okay, what's
- 36:52what's your other degree going to be
- 36:53just in case?"
- 36:55And I was like,
- 36:57"In case what?"
- 37:00"You got to get two of them? What are
- 37:01you Like [laughter] I'm trying to figure
- 37:03this out. Is this a master's? Is that
- 37:04what you're talking about?" No, no, no.
- 37:05No, just in case the ministry thing
- 37:07don't work out for you because everybody
- 37:09told me going to ministry going to be
- 37:10poor.
- 37:12It's crazy. That's That's mostly what I
- 37:14heard.
- 37:16"Well, if you go into ministry, you're
- 37:17just going to be poor. You're probably
- 37:18going to really really struggle. So, you
- 37:19might want a backup plan."
- 37:24Listen,
- 37:25I don't need a backup plan with God.
- 37:29Maybe this is a word for you. Maybe
- 37:30Maybe you're also feeling this calling
- 37:34and some people got you doubting.
- 37:36Listen,
- 37:37I'm living proof right here standing
- 37:38before you. I never needed a backup plan
- 37:40with God.
- 37:42Why would I need a plan B when I know
- 37:44plan A?
- 37:45And I know that he will always provide,
- 37:47that he will always come through. He has
- 37:49every single time. God will not fail me
- 37:51now, and he will not fail you.
- 37:54And the truth is, you don't need a
- 37:55backup plan with God.
- 37:57Because I'm telling you right now, God
- 37:59can provide what no money could provide
- 38:01for you.
- 38:03God can help you and lead you in ways
- 38:05when you follow him. But some days
- 38:07YOU'RE LIKE, "GOD, WHY?"
- 38:10SOME DAYS SOME DAYS it feels like I I
- 38:12JUST GOT BITTEN.
- 38:15IT'S CRAZY, TOO, CUZ IF YOU KEEP
- 38:16READING,
- 38:18so the poisonous snake,
- 38:20driven out by the heat, grabbed his
- 38:21hand.
- 38:22And the people of the island saw it
- 38:24hanging from his hand.
- 38:26They're just watching.
- 38:28I want you to
- 38:29I want you to see that in the story. HE
- 38:29SAYS LIKE, "AH!"
- 38:31THEY'RE JUST LOOKING.
- 38:33Maybe they're whispering, "Maybe we
- 38:34should go get a medic."
- 38:36But they're just watching.
- 38:39Actually, they didn't say, "Let's get a
- 38:40medic." They said, "Hey, he must be a
- 38:41murderer."
- 38:43No doubt.
- 38:45"Though he escaped the sea, justice will
- 38:47not permit him to live." I want you to
- 38:48see how people can be sometimes.
- 38:52Oh, man.
- 38:54Paul's just trying to be nice, and a
- 38:55snake is eating your hand in front of
- 38:58eating his friend eating his hand in
- 38:59front of his new friends. Like, think
- 39:00about this. Like, it's literally
- 39:03snake is on him.
- 39:05It's hurting.
- 39:08And the people the people are just
- 39:09peopling.
- 39:11You know what I mean by that? Like,
- 39:12they're assuming the worst.
- 39:14Oh, he got hurt. He's going through a
- 39:15trial. Something. He did something.
- 39:17He must be a murderer. God's not going
- 39:19to let him get away with it.
- 39:22Some people will see one chapter of your
- 39:24life and think they know the whole
- 39:25story.
- 39:27Okay.
- 39:29But they don't know you.
- 39:32God knows you.
- 39:34And he will direct you, and he will help
- 39:35you, and he will heal you.
- 39:37So, don't let people who don't know you
- 39:39convince you that God has abandoned you.
- 39:42Sometimes Jesus does send us into the
- 39:44storm.
- 39:46But what happens next? Listen to this.
- 39:47Acts 28:5-6. But Paul shook off the
- 39:50snake into the fire and was unharmed.
- 39:54But watch what the people did. Again,
- 39:56they're just peopling.
- 39:57Waited for him to swell up and suddenly
- 39:59drop dead.
- 40:01Can you imagine this? They didn't go get
- 40:03help. They're just talking. They're just
- 40:05gossiping. They're saying he's a
- 40:06murderer. I mean, this looks like a
- 40:08Facebook comment section.
- 40:12I'm here every week if you'd like to
- 40:13come back next week.
- 40:17People just peopling.
- 40:21But when they had waited a long time and
- 40:22saw that he was in harm,
- 40:25See, people are waiting for your
- 40:26disaster. And I hate I hate to tell you
- 40:27that, but there are there are some
- 40:29people waiting for disaster in your
- 40:30life. But let God show them a testimony
- 40:33instead.
- 40:35But again, here's what people do. They
- 40:36change their minds and then decided that
- 40:38he was a god.
- 40:40Like you see this?
- 40:42HE'S A MURDERER. He's a god.
- 40:46Stop getting your identity from people.
- 40:49You're you're driving yourself mad.
- 40:52You're driving yourself mad trying to
- 40:53please everybody. Listen, you may please
- 40:55people one day, but the next day they
- 40:56may be angry with you. It's okay. It's
- 40:58called life.
- 41:01We're all going to go through it and
- 41:02we're all going to have emotions. It's
- 41:03okay. Let's just grow together.
- 41:06Let's not attack each other. Let's grow
- 41:07together.
- 41:08Let's listen to the Holy Spirit when he
- 41:10corrects us and leads us and guides us.
- 41:14But here's Okay, here's the part I
- 41:16really want you to see.
- 41:18Acts 28:7-10. Near the shore where we
- 41:20landed was an estate belonging to
- 41:23Publius, the chief official of the
- 41:25island. He welcomed us and treated us
- 41:27kindly for 3 days. As it happened,
- 41:29Publius' father was ill with fever.
- 41:33This is interesting. And Paul went in
- 41:35and prayed for him, laying his hands on
- 41:38him, and he healed him.
- 41:40Then all the other sick people on the
- 41:42island came and were healed. As a
- 41:45result, we were showered with honors.
- 41:48And when the time came to sail, people
- 41:50supplied us with everything that we
- 41:52needed for the trip. Hold on. Hold on.
- 41:54Okay. Okay. Okay, storm comes. He's a
- 41:56prisoner going to Rome. Storm comes.
- 41:59The ship is breaking apart.
- 42:01He's almost killed by the soldiers. He
- 42:03makes it to this this random island,
- 42:05this small island called Malta. He's
- 42:07bitten by a poisonous snake just to end
- 42:09up in this man's house.
- 42:14To heal his father.
- 42:19You see this?
- 42:22Sometimes the destination is not what
- 42:23you thought it would be, but it still
- 42:25doesn't mean that the Lord isn't working
- 42:26where you are.
- 42:29And because his father was healed, what
- 42:30happened after this? Then the rest of
- 42:32the people on the island started to
- 42:33bring their sick to Paul and he started
- 42:36to heal them.
- 42:39You see, sometimes we're so focused on
- 42:41the destination,
- 42:44we forget what God can do right now.
- 42:47But my question is, what if God allowed
- 42:49all this?
- 42:51You said you was going to say, Paul,
- 42:52what if he allowed all this just so that
- 42:54Paul could heal these people on Malta.
- 42:56So, I did some digging and I looked up
- 42:58Malta today. Did you know predominantly
- 43:00Malta is Christian?
- 43:04Think about that.
- 43:05Because of a shipwreck
- 43:07and a man named Paul landing on this
- 43:09random island SHARING THE GOSPEL, THIS
- 43:12ISLAND TODAY IS predominantly
- 43:14Christian.
- 43:17I don't miss those opportunities.
- 43:21Wow.
- 43:23And so,
- 43:26and so, this is kind of where our
- 43:28journey
- 43:30for Paul starts to end. This is
- 43:32kind of the ending of our story out of
- 43:34the book of Acts.
- 43:37The journey for to Rome
- 43:38took Paul months. It actually was not a
- 43:40quick trip at all. 14 nights in a
- 43:41violent storm, 3 months stranded on
- 43:43Malta.
- 43:44When they finally arrived to Rome, Paul
- 43:46was still a prisoner. He was able to
- 43:48meet other believers. There was other
- 43:50believers there
- 43:51even before he started to preach the
- 43:53gospel.
- 43:54He continued to preach and teach and I
- 43:55want you to listen to how Acts ends.
- 43:58Acts 28:30 and 31, for the next 2 years
- 44:01Paul lived in Rome.
- 44:04At his own expense, he welcomed all
- 44:06visited him, boldly
- 44:08proclaiming the kingdom of God
- 44:12and teaching about the Lord Jesus
- 44:14Christ. Now, I want you to notice the
- 44:15last line right here.
- 44:17No one tried
- 44:19to stop him.
- 44:21Some translations state it more like
- 44:23this,
- 44:24he was too bold
- 44:27to stop spreading the gospel of Jesus
- 44:29Christ.
- 44:32But, what did God reveal to him? God
- 44:34revealed that hey, it would not be easy.
- 44:36God did reveal that he would lose his
- 44:37life eventually. And so,
- 44:40according to the early Christian
- 44:41tradition, Paul was martyred in Rome
- 44:43about 2 to 5 years later, give or take.
- 44:47Executed by beheading during the reign
- 44:49of Emperor Nero. He was a dangerous
- 44:52lunatic.
- 44:55He set Rome on fire, blamed the
- 44:56Christians. He was evil and wicked.
- 45:00Yet, Paul never stopped spreading
- 45:03gospel.
- 45:06And again,
- 45:08I just think it's so powerful to know
- 45:09that in Malta today,
- 45:13the island is predominantly Christian
- 45:15because everywhere Paul went, whether he
- 45:18expected it or not,
- 45:20he shared the love of Jesus Christ.
- 45:23Second Timothy chapter 4, verse 7.
- 45:26He said, "I fought the good fight.
- 45:29I have finished the race.
- 45:32And I
- 45:34have remained faithful through it all."
- 45:36I'm going to ask you to stand right here
- 45:38and
- 45:39ask you to close your eyes.
- 45:44I want you to be very honest with the
- 45:45Lord today.
- 45:47How many of y'all feel like you're in
- 45:48the middle of a storm and you've been
- 45:50thinking about that life boat?
- 45:53And I want you to ask yourself this
- 45:54question, what is the life boat for me?
- 45:56What is the thing that I keep running
- 45:58back to?
- 46:00When God tells me to walk in obedience,
- 46:02what is the thing that I keep running
- 46:04back to? The the plan B
- 46:07that is pulling me away, that's keeping
- 46:08me stuck. I'm going to telling you God
- 46:10is so good that if you just let go of
- 46:13the life boat, you're going to see his
- 46:14miracles.
- 46:17I've seen it. I've witnessed them.
- 46:21I'm not I'm not just saying these
- 46:22things. I I've seen his glory and I've
- 46:24seen his grace.
- 46:26I've seen him do the impossible and I
- 46:28want that for you. I want you to know
- 46:29the Lord in such an intimate way.
- 46:33But what's the life boat?
- 46:36Is it a relationship you keep going back
- 46:37to?
- 46:40Maybe it's your money. Maybe that's
- 46:41where your security has come and God is
- 46:43challenging you on that.
- 46:46Maybe again it's the bitterness or
- 46:48anger. Maybe maybe you're just broken.
- 46:53Maybe you're saying God, why is life so
- 46:55hard?
- 46:58Why is this storm so bad?
- 47:02Can I really make it to the other side?
- 47:06I'm telling you to cut the rope
- 47:09of the things that are pulling you away
- 47:11from God and I'm telling you to
- 47:12surrender
- 47:13everything over to the Lord right now.
- 47:17God, I surrender.
- 47:21I surrender the plan B. I surrender the
- 47:23life boat. I surrender
- 47:25me trying to take control of my own life
- 47:27and do things my way. It never works
- 47:30out.
- 47:31It never fulfills me. So,
- 47:34do something different.
- 47:37Give it over to the Lord. Trust him.
- 47:40Trust him.
- 47:42Trust the Lord.
- 47:44He will never disappoint.
- 47:47He always comes through
- 47:51beyond what you can even comprehend.
- 47:55So, right now if you need prayer to
- 47:56release the lifeboat, will you raise
- 47:57your hand?
- 47:59Whatever that may be in your life, just
- 48:01raise your hand. God, I thank you,
- 48:02Jesus, for their willingness to be
- 48:05honest right now before your holy
- 48:07presence. And I pray in the name of
- 48:09Jesus, Holy Spirit,
- 48:12cut the rope.
- 48:14Cut the rope.
- 48:16Because the truth is, yes, God
- 48:18declares the outcome,
- 48:21but we still have to be obedient
- 48:24to see the outcome.
- 48:28And anytime the enemy's after you,
- 48:30doubt,
- 48:32or even your own flesh, I just pray
- 48:34against those voices.
- 48:36And I ask in the name of Jesus, as we
- 48:39started the entire book of Acts, I pray
- 48:42that power comes upon you
- 48:45through the Holy Spirit,
- 48:47who will always guide you in truth
- 48:49>> [music]
- 48:49>> and give you strength you do not have.
- 48:52Lord, I thank you, God, for your grace.
- 48:54I thank you, Lord, for your mercy. We
- 48:56thank you, Father, for this word. And we
- 48:58thank you, Father, for the book of Acts
- 49:01to learn these truths that we have, to
- 49:04dive deep,
- 49:05and to now know we can become
- 49:07unstoppable by your Holy Spirit. We
- 49:10praise you. We glorify you. In Jesus'
- 49:13mighty name, everybody said
- 49:16Come on, let's give God some Authentic
- 49:17Family. Thank you so much for joining us
- 49:20today. It has been an amazing sermon
- 49:23series, and we closed it out today, 22
- 49:26weeks of going through the book of Acts.
- 49:29Pastor Bobby's been able to lay out the
- 49:30journey of Paul and what it was for the
- 49:33early church. So I hope that you have
- 49:35been blessed by this. I hope God has
- 49:37been able to speak through Pastor
- 49:38straight into whatever you're going
- 49:40through, whatever your life has, what
- 49:42that looks like for you, whether it is
- 49:44in the valley, in the prison, or on the
- 49:46mountaintop, God has a plan for you. So
