- 0:00When you're an entrepreneur building
- 0:01your own company, it can feel like
- 0:03everything in the world is working
- 0:05against you. Money is never guaranteed.
- 0:08Everybody in your family needs your
- 0:09attention. Everybody in the office needs
- 0:11your support. And it can feel like every
- 0:13customer out there is either inspired to
- 0:15cheer you on or dedicated to tear you
- 0:18down. As an entrepreneur and CEO myself,
- 0:20I discovered that one habit I learned at
- 0:23CIA has been fundamental to my success
- 0:26in business. And that's what I'm going
- 0:27to share with you today.

- 0:33>> Andrew Bustamante, welcome to the Shawn

- 0:36>> Delighted to have you here.
- 0:40>> I already know that many of you just
- 0:42want to hear the habit so that you can
- 0:43apply it for yourself and move on to
- 0:45success. So I'm going to give you the
- 0:46habit first. But for those of you who
- 0:48want to understand the psychology behind
- 0:49the habit and learn why CIA teaches it
- 0:52to every new intelligence officer it
- 0:54trains, stick around for the second half
- 0:55of the video and I'll explain it then.
- 0:57CIA teaches every new intelligence
- 0:59officer that within 15 minutes of waking
- 1:01up each day, you want to go outside and
- 1:04let natural light absorb into your
- 1:06retinas. No sunglasses, no blue light
- 1:08blockers, just all natural light coming
- 1:10in to your all natural eye. This one
- 1:13simple habit has incredible impact on
- 1:15your focus, your productivity, your
- 1:17attitude throughout the day, and even
- 1:19your quality of sleep at night. And for
- 1:21most CEOs, this is the easiest and least
- 1:24expensive habit that you can start new
- 1:27in the next 24 hours. The reason this
- 1:29habit is so powerful is for two reasons.
- 1:31One biological and one psychological.
- 1:34Biologically, when you expose your eyes
- 1:37to natural light first thing in the
- 1:38morning, a few different things happen.
- 1:40First, your body naturally creates a
- 1:42stress hormone called cortisol. Now,
- 1:44generally, cortisol is something that's
- 1:46seen as a negative because it's a
- 1:48hormone that's associated with negative
- 1:50stress, distress, the kind of stress
- 1:52that makes you feel bad or sick to your
- 1:54stomach or wear you down. But cortisol
- 1:56is also associated with something known
- 1:58as eustress or positive stress, the kind
- 2:00of stress that you encounter when you're
- 2:02exercising or learning a new language.
- 2:04When you expose your eyes to natural
- 2:06light first thing in the morning, you're
- 2:08actually introducing a new stressor into
- 2:10your system, the stressor of daylight
- 2:13into your retina which has been
- 2:14accustomed to darkness for the last 8 to
- 2:1612 hours while you've been asleep. That
- 2:19stressor on your system is treated like
- 2:21eustress in your body, creating small
- 2:24amounts of cortisol that actually
- 2:26increase your focus immediately. This
- 2:28natural concoction of daylight and
- 2:30cortisol is a lot like your morning cup
- 2:32of coffee, only stronger and healthier.
- 2:35Where caffeine has to hit your digestive
- 2:37system first through your stomach, the
- 2:39cortisol that's released actually goes
- 2:41directly to your central nervous system
- 2:43from the hormonal center of your brain.
- 2:45That means that the boosted energy and
- 2:46focus that you get from the morning
- 2:48cortisol actually hits you faster, lasts
- 2:51longer, and doesn't come with any kind
- 2:53of crash, unlike caffeine. Because this
- 2:56is a hormonal reaction rooted in your
- 2:58natural body, it means that your other
- 3:00physiological systems are actually
- 3:02complemented by the morning sunlight
- 3:04hitting your eyes. Your digestive system
- 3:06isn't irritated, unlike when you drink
- 3:08coffee first thing in the morning. Your
- 3:10nervous system is actually calmed,
- 3:12unlike the jitters and the shakes that
- 3:13come with coffee in the morning. Your
- 3:15immune system and cardiovascular system
- 3:17are boosted, and as a result of the
- 3:19combined physiological benefits, there
- 3:21are psychological benefits that follow
- 3:23suit, like reduced anxiety, increased
- 3:26creativity, increased productivity, and
- 3:28an uplifting of the spirit that actually
- 3:31keeps your attitude positive for longer
- 3:33into the day. Just compare that to what
- 3:35your first few hours probably feel like
- 3:37every day right now as a CEO. When you
- 3:40wake up and you're immediately
- 3:41overwhelmed with stress from family,
- 3:43stress from the people who work for you,
- 3:45stress from trying to meet daily sales.
- 3:47By 10:00 most mornings, the last thing
- 3:49any CEO feels is positive or uplifted.
- 3:52Instead, they're managing all of the
- 3:54daily fires they have to put out and
- 3:55wondering whether or not they'll make it
- 3:57to the end of the next payroll cycle.
- 3:59CIA understands the stress of being a
- 4:01CEO better than most people realize
- 4:04because a CIA field officer is often
- 4:06times juggling many of the same
- 4:07concerns, the same conflicts, and the
- 4:09same competing priorities that a CEO is
- 4:11dealing with all the time. Trying to
- 4:13manage multiple personal relationships,
- 4:16trying to maintain steady productivity,
- 4:18trying to get ahead and build a career,
- 4:20build a business, build a reputation of
- 4:22success. And while CEOs may be managing
- 4:24the stress in a public domain, CIA
- 4:27officers are managing all that stress in
- 4:29a very secret undercover domain. But
- 4:31biologically and psychologically, the
- 4:33stressors acting upon you are almost
- 4:35identical. Reducing your sleep, tearing
- 4:38down your positive attitude, undermining
- 4:40your relationships, and convincing you
- 4:43that the best thing to do is just give
- 4:45up. Once you introduce this one simple
- 4:47and powerful daily habit from CIA,
- 4:49everything else changes. All because
- 4:52Mother Nature put a ball of energy in
- 4:53the sky that every human being on Earth
- 4:56can absorb through their eyes. CIA's
- 4:58habit is an easy one to execute. No, you
- 5:00don't go outside and look at the sun.
- 5:03You go outside and take a walk in the
- 5:05daylight. Walk your dog, walk yourself,
- 5:07take a book, take your favorite
- 5:08playlist, and just spend 5 to 7 minutes
- 5:11outside in the natural light. It could
- 5:14be raining, it could be cloudy, it could
- 5:16be cold, it doesn't matter. What matters
- 5:18is that the rays from the sun are
- 5:20bouncing around in your external
- 5:21environment, and those light rays carry
- 5:24the right kind of chemical to trigger a
- 5:25cortisol reaction in your retinas first
- 5:28thing in the morning. And you want that
- 5:30natural sunlight to be some of the first
- 5:32light that you expose yourself to.
- 5:34Before you look at your phone, before
- 5:35you look at your computer, before you
- 5:37turn on the lights in your living room,
- 5:39you want to expose your eyes to the
- 5:40natural light outside because that light
- 5:43comes with benefits that just don't
- 5:45exist when you look at your laptop
- 5:47screen, your phone screen, or your TV
- 5:49screen. This powerful, simple habit
- 5:51absolutely transformed my life when I
- 5:53was at CIA, and I've carried it with me
- 5:55to incredible success as a CEO. If you
- 5:58haven't discovered your secret spy
- 6:00superpower, then somebody else might be
- 6:02using theirs against you. CIA teaches us
- 6:05that there are only three types of
- 6:07people in the world. Those who motivate,
- 6:09those who manipulate, and those who are
- 6:11being controlled by one of the other
- 6:13two. I created a three-minute CIA-style
- 6:16quiz to help you unlock your secret
- 6:19psychological advantage and identify
- 6:22your hidden blind spot. All you have to
- 6:24do is click on the first link in the
- 6:25description below or scan the QR code on
- 6:27your screen, and you'll be taken
- 6:28directly to your private quiz. This test
- 6:31was developed to help you weaponize your
- 6:32natural-born gifts and use them to get
- 6:35ahead of 99% of people in power, wealth,
- 6:38and purpose. It was also designed to
- 6:40make sure that you can protect yourself
- 6:41against those who would use their skills
- 6:43against you. I want you to discover your
- 6:46secret spy superpower and use it for
- 6:48good before somebody else uses their
- 6:50power against you. Because just that
- 6:52extra energy, that extra positivity,
- 6:54that extra productivity that I have that
- 6:57my competition doesn't have has carried
- 6:59me further and faster than I could have
- 7:01ever imagined. And the same thing can be
- 7:03true for you if you follow this one
- 7:06simple CIA daily habit for CEOs. Wake up
- 7:10and make sure you go outside in the
- 7:11first 15 minutes after waking up. Give
- 7:14yourself 5 to 7 minutes of outdoor
- 7:16natural light while you go for a walk,
- 7:18walk the dog, or listen to your favorite
- 7:20audiobook. And then come back and start
- 7:23your day, and you will see and feel the
- 7:25difference in a matter of minutes. And
- 7:27once you experience for yourself how
- 7:29powerful this simple habit is, you'll
- 7:31never go back to the life you once had.
