  1. 0:00Ever wondered why keepers dare to smack
  2. 0:02a tiger with a slipper or even yell at a
  3. 0:04lion but never treat a leopard the same
  4. 0:06way? The reason is simple. Even though
  5. 0:08tigers and lions are dangerous, their
  6. 0:10behavior is relatively predictable.
  7. 0:11[music] Lions are social animals with a
  8. 0:13clear hierarchy. And in their eyes, the
  9. 0:15keeper is basically the boss. So
  10. 0:17shouting is often seen as strict
  11. 0:19discipline from a higher rank rather
  12. 0:21than a real threat. Tigers are solitary,
  13. 0:23but when they're raised from cubs, a
  14. 0:25certain level of trust and understanding
  15. 0:27can form, and getting hit with a slipper
  16. 0:29feels more like strict guidance [music]
  17. 0:30than real danger. For the sake of
  18. 0:32survival, a tiger may even choose to
  19. 0:34tolerate it quietly. Leopards, however,
  20. 0:37are completely different. They are true
  21. 0:39[music] loners, extremely suspicious,
  22. 0:41and constantly under pressure in the
  23. 0:43wild, which makes them highly reactive
  24. 0:44and [music] unpredictable. In a
  25. 0:46leopard's mind, you are either prey or a
  26. 0:48threat. If you act aggressive, it won't
  27. 0:50see you as dominant, only dangerous and
  28. 0:53worthy of caution. That's why among
  29. 0:55animal keepers there's a saying that
  30. 0:56leopards hold grudges and never forget.
