The Neophyte Shift: Living the Golden Dawn System at Home — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:01There comes a point in the study of
- 0:03magic when you have to ask yourself a
- 0:05very honest question. Am I learning
- 0:07about transformation or am I actually
- 0:09allowing myself to be transformed? You
- 0:12can know the names of the planets. You
- 0:14can memorize correspondences. You can
- 0:16learn the Hebrew alphabet and explain
- 0:18the symbolism of the Tree of Life. And
- 0:21all of that matters, but eventually that
- 0:23knowledge has to enter your life.
- 0:26It has to change how you direct your
- 0:27attention, how you respond when you're
- 0:29afraid, how you work with your desires,
- 0:32how you carry yourself when life becomes
- 0:34difficult. It has to become something
- 0:37you can practice, something you can
- 0:39live.
- 0:40That is why I created Becoming the
- 0:42Neophyte, which has now been added to
- 0:44the Mage Space magic course. And today,
- 0:47I want to share what this series is,
- 0:49where the course is going over the next
- 0:50several months, and why I'm so excited
- 0:52about what we're building together.
- 0:55When I think about Mage Space, I think
- 0:57about the person practicing at home.
- 1:00Maybe you have a room where you can
- 1:01close the door and set up your altar.
- 1:03Maybe you have a small corner of an
- 1:04apartment. Maybe your practice begins
- 1:07after work when you're tired, when there
- 1:08are dishes in the sink, when your mind
- 1:11is still carrying the day.
- 1:12That is where the work has to become
- 1:14real.
- 1:15Because the Great Work happens in the
- 1:17life you actually have.
- 1:19You begin with your present attention,
- 1:21your present habits, your present fears,
- 1:24your present capacity to sit down,
- 1:26become still, and do the work. And from
- 1:28there, you build. I want the Mage Space
- 1:31course to give you a clear path for that
- 1:33building, a path you can follow with
- 1:35seriousness, with patience, and with an
- 1:38understanding of what you're developing.
- 1:40Becoming the Neophyte is a major step in
- 1:42that direction.
- 1:45This is a six-part series about taking
- 1:47the knowledge of the Neophyte grade and
- 1:49bringing it into experience. We begin
- 1:53with attention and observation. Because
- 1:55before you can direct your consciousness
- 1:57with intention, you have to begin
- 1:59noticing what it is already doing. Can
- 2:02you choose where your attention goes?
- 2:04Can you recognize when it is wandered?
- 2:07Can you observe a thought or any motion
- 2:09long enough to understand it before
- 2:11acting on it? These are foundational
- 2:14magical abilities, and they have very
- 2:16practical consequences. Imagine being in
- 2:19a difficult conversation and recognizing
- 2:21the moment your anger begins to rise.
- 2:23Imagine being able to pause, remain
- 2:26present, and choose your response. That
- 2:29moment of choice matters. It's one place
- 2:32where the work begins to show itself.
- 2:34From there, the series brings you into
- 2:36the elements, the zodiac, the planetary
- 2:39powers, sacred language, and the Tree of
- 2:41Life. And throughout it, the question
- 2:44is, how does this become alive in you?
- 2:47How do the elements help you recognize
- 2:49your own patterns? Where are you
- 2:51impulsive? Where are you passive? Where
- 2:53are you scattered? Where are you rigid?
- 2:56How can you begin developing a more
- 2:58balanced relationship with those forces?
- 3:01How do the symbols become instruments of
- 3:03attention, reflection, and practice? How
- 3:06does the Tree of Life become something
- 3:07you can use to examine your experience
- 3:09and orient your work?
- 3:11That is the purpose of this series, to
- 3:13help you become a conscious participant
- 3:15in what you're studying.
- 3:18And this also explains the relationship
- 3:20between the YouTube channel and the
- 3:22course. On YouTube, we will continue
- 3:25unpacking the knowledge lectures in
- 3:27depth. We're going to examine the
- 3:29symbols, the correspondences, the
- 3:32diagrams, and the ideas carefully, so
- 3:34you can understand what the system is
- 3:36communicating. That work will continue.
- 3:39You will be seeing more videos here as
- 3:42the course develops.
- 3:44Inside the course, we take that
- 3:45knowledge into application. We ask what
- 3:49to do with it, what to practice, what to
- 3:51observe, what to record in your magical
- 3:54diary, and how to recognize whether your
- 3:56practice is helping you develop. The
- 3:59knowledge lectures give you a language
- 4:01and a map. The course helps you work
- 4:03with that map in your own life. My
- 4:05intention is for these two parts of
- 4:07Magespace to support each other so that
- 4:09understanding and experience can grow
- 4:12together.
- 4:14Over this fall and winter, I'm adding
- 4:17new modules to the course, including a
- 4:19several part becoming the grade series
- 4:21for each grade. Becoming the Neophyte is
- 4:24the beginning of that expansion. As we
- 4:26move through the grades, I want you to
- 4:27have practical guidance for working with
- 4:29the particular demands and possibilities
- 4:32of each stage. Because advancing through
- 4:34a system should mean something. It
- 4:36should involve a deepening capacity to
- 4:38practice, to observe yourself honestly,
- 4:40and to work with what you discover. A
- 4:42grade gives direction to your
- 4:44development. It asks something of you.
- 4:47And these series are being built to help
- 4:49you understand that invitation and
- 4:51respond to it through actual work. I'm
- 4:54excited about this because it brings the
- 4:56course closer to the vision I've always
- 4:57had for Magespace. A serious path of
- 5:00magical development that you can
- 5:02undertake in your own home, with depth,
- 5:05with structure, and with room for your
- 5:07experience to become your own.
- 5:10One of the additions I care most about
- 5:12is the grade self-examination.
- 5:15Self-examinations have now been added to
- 5:17becoming the Neophytes, and they're
- 5:19being included in all of the becoming
- 5:21the grade series. You should learn the
- 5:23required knowledge. You should become
- 5:25familiar with the symbols and
- 5:27correspondences,
- 5:28but you also need a way to examine what
- 5:30your practice is producing. Can you sit
- 5:33voluntarily for several minutes? Can you
- 5:36place your attention on something you've
- 5:37chosen and return to it when you become
- 5:39distracted? Are you beginning to
- 5:41recognize your habitual reactions? Can
- 5:44you look at your magical diary and
- 5:46identify patterns across several weeks.
- 5:49When you describe your progress, can you
- 5:51point to something you've actually
- 5:52observed? These questions invite
- 5:55honesty, and honesty is one of the most
- 5:57powerful things you can bring to this
- 5:59work. Some days your answer will be
- 6:02encouraging. Other days you'll see
- 6:04something that needs more attention.
- 6:07Both are useful. You don't have to
- 6:09perform spiritual advancement for
- 6:11anyone. You can meet yourself where you
- 6:13are. Recognize piece of work and
- 6:16undertake it. That is how a foundation
- 6:18becomes strong.
- 6:21Then in the spring, I am adding revised
- 6:24initiation ceremonies designed for you
- 6:27to perform in your own home. Yes, even
- 6:30in your living room. I want to explain
- 6:32this carefully, especially for those of
- 6:34you who are already in the course. The
- 6:37rituals and knowledge you are working
- 6:38with are already taking your
- 6:40consciousness through the patterns
- 6:43represented in the initiation
- 6:45ceremonies. You can begin now. You can
- 6:48practice now. You can develop now.
- 6:51There's no reason to put your work on a
- 6:52hold while I build these additions.
- 6:55Within this course's approach to
- 6:56self-directed practice, the essential
- 6:58work is already underway through your
- 7:00study and ritual practice. What I want
- 7:03to add is a deliberate ceremonial
- 7:05experience that helps you gather that
- 7:07work together. An occasion to prepare,
- 7:10to reflect, to make a conscious
- 7:12commitment, and to mark a transition.
- 7:15Personally, I think they could be a very
- 7:16powerful addition. There's something
- 7:18meaningful about setting aside an
- 7:20evening, preparing your space, and
- 7:22entering a ceremony with a clear
- 7:24understanding of what you're
- 7:25undertaking. Giving your intention a
- 7:27voice. Giving your commitment an action.
- 7:30Allowing the symbolism you've studied to
- 7:32become something you move through.
- 7:35That is what I'm building toward.
- 7:37And beneath all these additions is a
- 7:38very personal reason for doing this. I
- 7:41want this work to help you become more
- 7:44capable of living your life consciously,
- 7:47more able to direct your attention
- 7:49toward what matters, more willing to
- 7:51face what you've been avoiding, more
- 7:53consistent in the commitments you
- 7:55choose, more aware of the forces moving
- 7:58through you so you can work with them
- 8:00intelligently. Magic asks for
- 8:03participation. You bring your attention.
- 8:05You bring your effort. You return to the
- 8:08practice. And over time, you may begin
- 8:10noticing changes in ordinary moments.
- 8:13You follow through on something you used
- 8:15to abandon. You recognize an old
- 8:17reaction before it takes over. You find
- 8:20that you can remain present with
- 8:21discomfort a little longer. You become
- 8:24clearer about what deserves your energy.
- 8:26Those changes deserve your attention.
- 8:29They're part of how a different life can
- 8:31begin to take shape.
- 8:33If you are already a Mage Space student,
- 8:36Becoming the Neophyte is now inside the
- 8:38course. Give it time. Work through the
- 8:41lessons. Undertake the practical work.
- 8:44Use your magical diary. Answer the
- 8:46self-examination from what your
- 8:47experience actually shows. And if you've
- 8:50been watching the channel and wondering
- 8:52how to bring all of this into a coherent
- 8:54practice, this is my invitation to join
- 8:57us. The Mage Space Magic course is where
- 9:00I'm building that practical path.
- 9:02Becoming the Neophyte is available now.
- 9:05The Becoming the Great series will
- 9:07continue expanding through the fall and
- 9:09winter alongside the knowledge lectures
- 9:11here on YouTube. And the home initiation
- 9:14ceremonies are planned for the spring.
- 9:16You can find the course through the link
- 9:18below this video. Take a look at what's
- 9:20included. And if this is the work you're
- 9:23ready to undertake, come begin. You do
- 9:26not have to arrive with perfect
- 9:28concentration or complete confidence.
- 9:30You begin by making a little space in
- 9:32your life. You sit down. You You your
- 9:35attention toward the work. And you take
- 9:37the next step with sincerity. That is a
- 9:40meaningful beginning. Thank you for
- 9:42being here. Thank you for studying with
- 9:44me. Thank you for helping me make Mage
- 9:46Space what it's becoming. There's a
- 9:48great deal ahead of us, and I look
- 9:49forward to walking this path with you.
