10. 0:18and on the other side they were they
11. 0:19wrote the word trust the way they define
12. 0:22the terms
13. 0:23is performance on the battlefield and
14. 0:25performance off the battlefield so this
15. 0:26is your skills
16. 0:27this is did you make your quarterly
17. 0:29earnings whatever however you want to
18. 0:31translate it right
19. 0:32performance traditional this is how are
20. 0:35you off the battlefield what kind of
21. 0:36person are you
22. 0:37the way they put it is i may trust you
23. 0:39with my life but do i trust you with my
24. 0:41money and my wife
25. 0:42this is what they told me nobody wants
26. 0:45this person the low performer of low
27. 0:46trust of course
28. 0:48of course everybody wants this person
29. 0:50the high performer of high trust
30. 0:52of course what they learned is that this
31. 0:55person
32. 0:55the high performer of low trust is a
33. 0:58toxic leader and a toxic team member
34. 1:00and they would rather have a medium
35. 1:02performer of high trust sometimes even a
36. 1:04low performer of high trust that's a
37. 1:05relative scale
38. 1:06over this person this is the highest
39. 1:09performing organization on the planet
40. 1:11and this person is more important than
41. 1:13this person
42. 1:14and the problem in business is we have
43. 1:16lopsided metrics
44. 1:17we have a million and one metrics to
45. 1:19measure someone's performance
46. 1:20and negligible to no metrics to measure
47. 1:23someone's trustworthiness
48. 1:24and so what we end up doing is promoting
49. 1:27or
50. 1:28bonusing toxicity in our businesses
51. 1:33which is bad for the long game because
52. 1:34it eventually destroys the whole
53. 1:36organization
54. 1:37the irony is it's unbelievable easy to
55. 1:40find these people
56. 1:42go to any team and say who's the [ __ ]
57. 1:45and they'll
58. 1:53they will all point to the same person
59. 1:56equally if you go to any team and say
60. 1:58who do you trust more than anybody else
61. 2:00who's always got your back and when the
62. 2:01ships are down they will be there with
63. 2:03you
64. 2:03they will also all point to the same
65. 2:05person it's the best gifted natural
66. 2:07leader who's getting
67. 2:08who's creating an environment for
68. 2:09everybody else to succeed and they may
69. 2:10not be your most individual highest
70. 2:12performer
71. 2:13but that person you better keep them on
72. 2:14your team
