The MOST INSANE CAR to Ever Drive in Hollywood! Finding the Mercedes Vision AVTR — Transcript

1. 0:00hi guys I'm shmee hello welcome back to
2. 0:02the channel welcome to Los Angeles in
3. 0:05fact we're right alongside an RS6 and
4. 0:07abdara6 no less but we are heading up
5. 0:10towards Hollywood because I think the
6. 0:13most insane car that's ever driven
7. 0:16through Hollywood down Hollywood
8. 0:17Boulevard is there today we're gonna go
9. 0:20and hunt down the Mercedes Vision avtr
10. 0:24now I've actually driven the vision avtr
11. 0:27Concept in Germany before now which is
12. 0:29amazing to think that that's now here
13. 0:31but the reason it's here and we've heard
14. 0:33a little birdie telling us that it's
15. 0:35going to be out today is because it's
16. 0:36time for the premiere of Avatar 2 the
17. 0:40way of water now because of that this
18. 0:42car which was a collaboration with
19. 0:43Avatar's director James Cameron is here
20. 0:45for the event it's a car that merges car
21. 0:48and machine and human and machine all
22. 0:50into one kind of thing and it's got some
23. 0:52crazy features but on the road it's
24. 0:54going to look totally out of this world
25. 0:57So the plan given we're here with my
26. 0:59Mercedes the age GT Black Series is to
27. 1:02head onwards up towards Hollywood and
28. 1:04yes it's the afternoon so we're sitting
29. 1:06in traffic surprise surprise it's a long
30. 1:08old drive up from Orange County but I
31. 1:09want to go and see if we can track this
32. 1:11thing down and find the Mercedes Vision
33. 1:14a BTR here in Los Angeles
34. 1:16[Music]
35. 1:21I think the whole entire world knows
36. 1:23about the traffic jams of Los Angeles
37. 1:25and this is actually flowing quite
38. 1:26nicely at the moment up the 405 from
39. 1:28Orange County up past so many different
40. 1:31areas Long Beach Torrance we're going to
41. 1:33be going all the way probably kind of
42. 1:34around Beverly Hills into Hollywood
43. 1:36where I've actually been with my Ford GT
44. 1:38done a reaction video around there it's
45. 1:40so busy the hustle and bustle of the
46. 1:43world's epicenter for movies
47. 1:46that's cool looking very very menacing
48. 1:49in the full satin black look on that
49. 1:52with the gintani place as well so
50. 1:53presumably with exhaust but the Mercedes
51. 1:55vision avtr is this future of Mercedes
52. 1:58concept an electric car of course but
53. 2:01with some crazy things like scales on
54. 2:04the back the open and pivot to show you
55. 2:06the direction neurones firing out of the
56. 2:07diffuser illuminated Wheels four-wheel
57. 2:10steering crab walking you drive it with
58. 2:12a pad so instead of your traditional
59. 2:14steering wheel you have a pad in the
60. 2:15central console and you basically tilt
61. 2:17it forwards or backwards to drive it's a
62. 2:19very weird sensation let's get there and
63. 2:22see what's going to be possible today
64. 2:24but to get there means this drive up
65. 2:27the highways of LA and the tarmac or
66. 2:30concrete slabs make her a very
67. 2:33uncomfortable drive around here it's
68. 2:34actually quite funny for a place with so
69. 2:37much going on that it can be as it is
70. 2:40but anyway it's a bit of a cruise it's
71. 2:42an hour or so to get there if the
72. 2:44traffic isn't too bad on arrival at the
73. 2:46other end before we're in Hollywood
74. 2:47before we're in land of the unusual so
75. 2:50division avtr will probably fit right in
76. 2:53well the weather looks a little bit
77. 2:54sketchy over in that direction it's
78. 2:56pretty gray and probably raining where
79. 2:59we are right now is out in the sunshine
80. 3:02um I just had this car clean so that
81. 3:04might turn out to be a complete waste of
82. 3:05time we shall find out shortly
83. 3:07thankfully this is actually pretty
84. 3:08smooth sailing we're basically cruising
85. 3:10on our way up towards Hollywood only
86. 3:13half an hour to go and no issues yet so
87. 3:15let's just hope the weather stays on
88. 3:17site because I didn't really fancy
89. 3:19running around the streets of Hollywood
90. 3:21in the pouring rain that's that's not on
91. 3:23the agenda for today well we're sitting
92. 3:24in traffic on the rooftop up there a
93. 3:26whole bunch of helicopters in fact
94. 3:29that's downtown of course
95. 3:31the skyscrapers of LA Downtown and for
96. 3:33anybody wondering we're very aware of
97. 3:35the crack in the windshield you can't
98. 3:37replace it out here because it needs a
99. 3:39right hand drive glass and this is a
100. 3:40left-hand Drive country unfortunately
101. 3:42working on that one but yeah this is the
102. 3:45inevitable traffic we knew was coming
103. 3:48hopefully
104. 3:50we're actually going to find the abtr
105. 3:52because if we don't this is a really
106. 3:53redundant Journey
107. 3:56let's keep fingers crossed you'll
108. 3:57probably have to take my word for it but
109. 3:59the Hollywood sign is up on the Hills
110. 4:01over there behind that wall somewhere oh
111. 4:04I can just catch a glimpse of it it's as
112. 4:08hidden as it can be but we're nearly
113. 4:09there we are making our way up and we've
114. 4:13actually taken time off the nap this is
115. 4:14why I always use Waze by the way Waze
116. 4:16knows how long it's going to take to get
117. 4:18places it said this journey would be a
118. 4:20bit over an hour and it's going to be to
119. 4:21the minute what it originally said even
120. 4:23though we have random slowdowns like
121. 4:25this
122. 4:26it's behind that building isn't it it's
123. 4:28behind that one building there oh well
124. 4:30we are here then this is Hollywood
125. 4:32Boulevard along the Pavements you have
126. 4:35the Hollywood Walk of Fame with all of
127. 4:37the stars up ahead of us are where you
128. 4:40find the main theaters or Cinemas if
129. 4:43you're from the UK uh I don't entirely
130. 4:46know where we're headed at the moment
131. 4:47other than just kind of making our way
132. 4:50around getting the layer of the land and
133. 4:53seeing what we can spot now a few people
134. 4:55have asked me to do a reactions video
135. 4:56with this car over here and it's quite
136. 4:58funny because I did a reactions video
137. 5:00right here with the Ford GT and actually
138. 5:02with tamiya's Corvette some of you might
139. 5:05remember as well that was crazy but this
140. 5:07car it's not as outlandish as something
141. 5:11like that while it's bright and you know
142. 5:13this paintwork looks extraordinary it's
143. 5:16not quite as in your face it doesn't
144. 5:18bring out the crazy reactions when
145. 5:19people realize it's right hand drive
146. 5:21that's really funny as we saw in Las
147. 5:23Vegas a few times because right hand
148. 5:24drive cars here not really thing but
149. 5:27it's not like the same massive in your
150. 5:29face and I don't run around revving it
151. 5:31loads so you're not hearing it because
152. 5:32you know stop start even right now but
153. 5:35the question is is the abtlr up that
154. 5:37away or is it in a garage somewhere and
155. 5:39we're going to drive around a bit until
156. 5:40we find it and hopefully manage to track
157. 5:42it as we get to where you have the
158. 5:45Chinese Theater for example this is
159. 5:46actually a little bit closed with a tent
160. 5:48or Marquee at the middle of the road
161. 5:49which I presume is to do with the Avatar
162. 5:522 premiere I don't know if that's where
163. 5:55the car is or if that's just preparing
164. 5:58for the chaos of everything that's the
165. 6:00campus of course Avatar one was a
166. 6:02massive massive massive box office
167. 6:03smashing movie
168. 6:05um I think I just saw another AMG GT yes
169. 6:07there's a GT Roadster red with a Red
170. 6:10Roof just alongside nice cool so where
171. 6:13do we go now I don't know we might have
172. 6:15to go and find somewhere to park
173. 6:17there are Carol Singers over my shoulder
174. 6:19I've literally just realized there are
175. 6:20people singing cows
176. 6:22Hollywood random things happen here well
177. 6:24we've just found out that it's at a
178. 6:26hotel nearby so we are quickly bobbing
179. 6:29around the corner I say quickly I mean
180. 6:3235 miles per hour speed limit say but
181. 6:34we're gonna head there to hopefully go
182. 6:35and catch it I think it's gonna be in
183. 6:38here in fact I can see it I can see the
184. 6:41avtr parked up
185. 6:43outside the front of the hotel so let me
186. 6:45see how this is going to work
187. 6:49but that's what we've come to see
188. 6:53look what I have found here then the
189. 6:55Mercedes Vision avtr look at this
190. 7:00machine let's have a quick walk around
191. 7:02to take in some of the details but stay
192. 7:04tuned for what's coming next the car is
193. 7:08alive inspired by Nature these scales
194. 7:10over the rear deck which actually move
195. 7:12around in the direction of travel
196. 7:14whether you're accelerating or braking
197. 7:16for example the colors change when
198. 7:17you're on the brakes you've got those
199. 7:18air brakes the red lights and you're
200. 7:20accelerating the blue lights and you can
201. 7:22see these neurons coming through the
202. 7:24rear diffuser section here accelerating
203. 7:25as the car is getting faster as well
204. 7:28look at the wheels 30 degree turning in
205. 7:30both the front wheels and the rear
206. 7:32wheels again all of the illuminations
207. 7:33these are inspired by the wood Sprites
208. 7:35from the movies if you come and have a
209. 7:37look at the interior this is the pad
210. 7:39that's used for the driving controls the
211. 7:42projections of the displays out in front
212. 7:43of you the materials that are used
213. 7:45inside here as well in fact some of them
214. 7:47are actually made from recycled pet
215. 7:49bottles we've then got as you can see
216. 7:51the design these curves these wrapper as
217. 7:53the rear seats come round to become the
218. 7:55headrests in fact for the front seats
219. 7:57with these large glass door panels that
220. 7:59open up this being an idea a concept for
221. 8:02the future but very much this
222. 8:03collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and
223. 8:06Avatar the ideas from James Cameron in
224. 8:08fact all the materials for the interior
225. 8:09are vegan materials as James Cameron
226. 8:11himself is actually vegan as well but
227. 8:14just look at this and in a second it's
228. 8:16going to be moving on out for a drive
229. 8:18down Hollywood Boulevard the front is of
230. 8:21course the visual design of the EQ range
231. 8:24from Mercedes-Benz this style this
232. 8:26complete width with the large
233. 8:28replacement of the traditional Grille
234. 8:30that you see across the models like the
235. 8:32eqs eqe for example and other models
236. 8:34from the lineup but this is really
237. 8:36something and the paint quality is
238. 8:38incredible so imagine what this is going
239. 8:40to look like shortly as it's been driven
240. 8:43down Hollywood Boulevard needless to say
241. 8:46I'm quite looking forward to seeing this
242. 8:48this is not all I've just been invited
243. 8:51to hop on board the vision avtr a little
244. 8:55bit later on for a passenger ride on
245. 8:57Hollywood Boulevard
246. 8:59in this the most insane car to ever
247. 9:02drive on Hollywood Boulevard I'm looking
248. 9:04forward to that for the moment though
249. 9:05we're filming behind the scenes as this
250. 9:08is actually about to go out for a little
251. 9:09video and photo shoot this is quite
252. 9:12exciting the perfect timing
253. 9:14coincidentally to be here to be with
254. 9:16this and it's now about to happen and it
255. 9:20is on the Move look at that you see crab
256. 9:23walking and rear wheel steering on some
257. 9:25Modern cars but very different when it's
258. 9:2830 degrees of steer like this
259. 9:30the time now for the vision avtr to head
260. 9:33out and for me to try and run after it
261. 9:35to go and see it out on the roads with
262. 9:38police escort
263. 9:39here that's not something that you see
264. 9:42often in fact I think they brought it to
265. 9:44Las Vegas and drove it down the Las
266. 9:46Vegas Boulevard in the past and I've
267. 9:48actually driven it in Germany this very
268. 9:50car I always love to see cars on
269. 9:51different continents and here is a great
270. 9:53example let's just hope it can manage
271. 9:56with the low curves
272. 9:58that they have out here look at this
273. 10:01like I said the most unusual thing
274. 10:03you're going to see out here on the road
275. 10:04anytime soon
276. 10:05look at that surrounded by normal cars
277. 10:09on the road
278. 10:11I don't really know what to think
279. 10:15look at this thing totally unusual
280. 10:17they've got a cool camera setup as well
281. 10:19alongside it here it comes turning onto
282. 10:22Hollywood Boulevard
283. 10:24with the police escort the Mercedes
284. 10:26vision avtr
285. 10:29how cool is that to see on the road

287. 10:35it this is really not normal

291. 10:46crazy in and amongst the normal cars
292. 10:50here in Los Angeles
293. 10:55silently cruising by
294. 11:02Big Workout for me running up the road
295. 11:03trying to catch it worth every single
296. 11:06clip just tilling crossing the junction
297. 11:09as you do the reactions from people
298. 11:11around here are hilarious the number of
299. 11:13people screaming shouting what is it
300. 11:15who's driving it look at the number of
301. 11:16people stopped in their tracks as this
302. 11:19goes by can't even squeeze through
303. 11:22to get past at the moment while I'm
304. 11:25walking down Adam Sandler Kate Winslet
305. 11:28loads of names Jennifer Lopez Ellen
306. 11:31Jennifer Aniston Rhys Witherspoon
307. 11:34Pharrell Williams this is actually
308. 11:36really found Mariah Carey it goes on oh
309. 11:38Michael Buble as well this is cool well
310. 11:40I lost track of the avtr but there are
311. 11:42g63s are plenty around here
312. 11:45good car for La the light has fallen but
313. 11:48we've managed to find it again I was
314. 11:50just starting to think
315. 11:51that was gone from my sights look at
316. 11:54that at night
317. 11:56that's so cool
318. 11:58that is so so cool like this

320. 12:05I'm just enjoying watching it
321. 12:08seeing the reactions
322. 12:11of it rolls it is time to take a seat

336. 12:49we're moving out crabbing turning
337. 12:54oncoming traffic
338. 12:56plus the eqs cars that are here as well
339. 13:00on Hollywood Boulevard the most bizarre
340. 13:03thing
341. 13:04are the number of cameras
342. 13:07that come out with this thing everybody
343. 13:11has their cameras to see it this is the
344. 13:14craziest car to ever drive
345. 13:17down Hollywood Boulevard
346. 13:21people so confused getting the Selfies
347. 13:23getting the shots
348. 13:27and here we are rolling through the
349. 13:29Junctions traffic coming the other way
350. 13:32[Music]
351. 13:37we're turning around
352. 13:39look at this those distinct Mercedes EQ
353. 13:42cars facing towards us as we sit here
354. 13:46with the photo camera car coming past
355. 13:48but straight on by
356. 13:51and I'm reluctant to touch anything
357. 13:53being very delicate inside here
358. 13:56all the floors are wicker
359. 13:58again all about recyclable materials
360. 14:01even the battery is actually compostable
361. 14:03recyclable battery 110 kilowatt hours
362. 14:08lots of glass the lights the feeling of
363. 14:12it all
364. 14:14of course
365. 14:16the control pad
366. 14:18and everything behind us as well
367. 14:20again the lights over the top
368. 14:22all really really
369. 14:26really special just everybody you go by
370. 14:29looks and waves and has their cameras
371. 14:31out
372. 14:33every single person in Hollywood sees
373. 14:36this coming or everybody just sees it
374. 14:39grabs their phone gets the shots
375. 14:42totally in awe of what they're seeing
376. 14:44every single person grabs the phone
377. 14:47takes a photo
378. 14:49this is crazy to see I have never seen a
379. 14:52car get reactions like this
380. 14:55every single person
381. 14:57make thanks to the police for their help
382. 14:59for the escort down the road
383. 15:04this is surreal this is absolutely
384. 15:07surreal
385. 15:09what a crazy thing to be doing people
386. 15:12coming after the car oh the reflection's
387. 15:15cool as well
388. 15:16the wheels
389. 15:20that's not normal
390. 15:21even the shape of the seats you can see
391. 15:23in the reflection of the windows
392. 15:26and everybody running out of shops that
393. 15:28people running out of shops to get the
394. 15:30photos
395. 15:31even when parked up everybody grabbing
396. 15:34those angles getting all of the photos
397. 15:38just bizarre and just like that the door
398. 15:42opens up again the pulsing lights inside
399. 15:45time for me to exit from the vision avtr
400. 15:50wow that was quite the experience look
401. 15:54at the lights the seat back as well
402. 15:58all just incredible to see
403. 16:02and now obviously under night light
404. 16:05look at that look at those movements
405. 16:08through the back well the vision abtr
406. 16:10has been popped away to charge it up for
407. 16:12a little bit before they head back on
408. 16:13out to go and do some more filming and
409. 16:15photos along Hollywood Boulevard but as
410. 16:18experiences go that was really quite
411. 16:21unique to see how much Focus there is on
412. 16:24a car like that and of course the point
413. 16:25of a concept to begin with is to bring
414. 16:27ideas to bring technology to see
415. 16:30people's feedback to get people involved
416. 16:32and I have never seen a car that has
417. 16:34reactions like that every single person
418. 16:38reaches to grab their phone it's
419. 16:40something to see and now when we hop
420. 16:42into the GT Black Series and drive back
421. 16:44down Hollywood Boulevard yeah no one's
422. 16:46going to even look at it at all because
423. 16:47unlike the vision ADTR it just doesn't
424. 16:49stand out what a cool thing though
425. 16:51around the launch of the new movie
426. 16:52Avatar 2 to bring the vision avtr here
427. 16:55given the connections given well even
428. 16:57that it's a few years old but given it's
429. 16:59so much a demonstration of all of this
430. 17:02and to drive it around I love that I
431. 17:04really love that and what a coincidence
432. 17:06to have seen it and to the team who
433. 17:08kindly allowed me to hop on board it
434. 17:10here that was not planned that was not
435. 17:12like in the works at all we just found
436. 17:14out it was here turned up obviously I've
437. 17:16met some of the team before
438. 17:18and what an awesome experience right
439. 17:21back in here an hour and 17 to get back
440. 17:25that's not too bad to be honest I
441. 17:26thought it could be significantly longer
442. 17:28than that
443. 17:30but we shall head onwards in the GT
444. 17:33Black Series which means starting our
445. 17:36journey turning out onto
446. 17:39Hollywood Boulevard a bit worried about
447. 17:41my front splitter
448. 17:42as we turn out here
449. 17:44I'm going to need to Bolero all of the
450. 17:47lanes because of how low this is
451. 17:50I think we've got this
452. 17:51we've got this alrighty
453. 17:55off we go in this direction
454. 17:58back to Hollywood Boulevard although
455. 18:00like I say
456. 18:02um
457. 18:04I don't think anybody cares about this
458. 18:05compared to the vision ABC oil the guy
459. 18:08in front just put his hazards on very
460. 18:10helpful thank you sir
461. 18:12when I'm like it's a right turn he's at
462. 18:15the right turn lane no parking oh well
463. 18:19we'll make it work we will make it work
464. 18:21yeah you see when you've been in the
465. 18:22vision avtr and you've seen everybody
466. 18:24get their camera phone out
467. 18:27it's a little bit different here
468. 18:30um technically we can go but maybe we
469. 18:32can't go I don't know
470. 18:39all right onwards
471. 18:42suppose it's time to hit the road fully
472. 18:44back then
473. 18:45go with the flow make our way home
474. 18:48saying farewell to the vision avtr for
475. 18:50today but that was so immensely cool a
476. 18:53huge thanks to everybody there who was
477. 18:56part of making that possible because not
478. 18:58a normal experience genuinely this place
479. 19:01has seen some crazy cars this road has
480. 19:04seen movie Cars hyper cars you name it
481. 19:08cars
482. 19:09but that was really one of the most
483. 19:12unusual cars to ever go down that road
484. 19:14and I feel very lucky to have gone the
485. 19:16passenger seat so I hope you've enjoyed
486. 19:17coming along for parts of that
487. 19:18experience for parts of what all of that
488. 19:20is like but I guess that's it for now
489. 19:22onwards with our trip here in California
