  10. 0:20two decades helping Millions worldwide
  11. 0:22you got pretty famous from talking about
  12. 0:24this certain subject matter which is
  13. 0:26fasting what do I need to know research
  14. 0:28shows it's going to make me stronger
  15. 0:30more lean
  16. 0:321,300% increase in testosterone in men
  17. 0:35oh wow we see inflammation go down
  18. 0:37growth hormone go up it's the hormone

  23. 0:47and it gets rid of those you are tapping
  24. 0:49into a healing state that you never knew
  25. 0:51was there I'm sold where do I stop so
  26. 0:54the first place to start is menstration
  27. 0:56or the Big M is considered a taboo topic
  28. 1:00I'm going to say something which is
  29. 1:01really embarrassing here I know nothing
  30. 1:02about menstrual cycles I'm in a
  31. 1:04relationship what advice have you got
  32. 1:05for me well the first is do you know her
  33. 1:07cycle moving on tell me about your
  34. 1:11childhood let me give you gold first two
  35. 1:13days give her some space if you have any
  36. 1:15conflict you want to resolve with her do
  37. 1:17it between Day 2 and day 12 her libido
  38. 1:20is going to be the highest between day
  39. 1:2110 and day 15 and then here's the goal
  40. 1:24you're going to have to report back to
  41. 1:25me how this works around day 17 this is
  42. 1:27where you got
  43. 1:28to once in a while on this podcast I
  44. 1:31have a conversation that I desperately
  45. 1:34wish I'd had sooner this is one of those
  46. 1:38conversations I'd heard about fasting
  47. 1:40but I had no idea no idea at all of its
  48. 1:44potentially lifechanging impact weight
  49. 1:47loss your sex life A woman's menstrual
  50. 1:50cycle how to heal from illness and
  51. 1:53injury the incredible power of fasting
  52. 1:56I'm incredibly happy that you chose to
  53. 1:58listen to this particular conversation
  54. 1:59because if you're like me and you've
  55. 2:01never really taken the time to
  56. 2:03understand fasting and you don't
  57. 2:05understand the six types of fasting then
  58. 2:08maybe this is the conversation you've
  59. 2:09always needed to hear because it
  60. 2:11certainly was for me you are really
  61. 2:14really going to enjoy this one take my
  62. 2:16word for
  63. 2:18[Music]
  64. 2:23it
  65. 2:26Mindy if you took the full body of work
  66. 2:29that you've produced over the last let's
  67. 2:31say 10 years and the work that you're
  68. 2:33going to produce over the next 10 years
  69. 2:35and you had to
  70. 2:37summarize the mission that you're on and
  71. 2:41why it
  72. 2:42matters how would you do that wow that's
  73. 2:44a great question um I'm trying to
  74. 2:48empower people to believe in themselves
  75. 2:50again and I want to do that through
  76. 2:53everything that in our lifestyle that
  77. 2:55Taps into our body's own ability to heal
  78. 2:57itself we' have gotten so far far off
  79. 3:00course we don't even realize that we're
  80. 3:02giving so much of our health power away
  81. 3:04our happiness power away and all we've
  82. 3:07got to do is come back home to ourselves
  83. 3:09and learn that every single thing inside
  84. 3:11of us every cell every neuron everything
  85. 3:14is working for us not against us and we
  86. 3:17have to stop villainizing our body we
  87. 3:19got to figure out how to believe in
  88. 3:20ourselves again we're the ones that are
  89. 3:22going to save ourselves and we've just
  90. 3:24lost our way what have we fallen into
  91. 3:27the Trap of believing well in the health
  92. 3:29World we've totally fallen into the Trap
  93. 3:32that if I take this pill if I do this
  94. 3:35diet if I do this exercise then that
  95. 3:38will cure me nobody cures you you cure
  96. 3:42yourself and so you have to start to
  97. 3:44look at the human body as this
  98. 3:46self-healing organism that's always
  99. 3:49figuring out how to keep you alive how
  100. 3:51to keep you at your best and if you're
  101. 3:54not feeling at your best then the only
  102. 3:56thing you to look at is that there's an
  103. 3:58interference there's physical emotional
  104. 4:01spiritual chemical interference that is
  105. 4:03pulling you away from this power that's
  106. 4:06inside of you so that you can start to
  107. 4:08heal Once you pull those away you see
  108. 4:11yourself in a whole new light I mean
  109. 4:13this is what fasting did for millions of
  110. 4:15people you just see yourself so
  111. 4:17differently in what you're capable of
  112. 4:18doing where where have we gone wrong in
  113. 4:21terms of our attitude towards what it is
  114. 4:24to be a human because you know I often
  115. 4:25think much of the health advice that we
  116. 4:29is through thrown at us these days has
  117. 4:31this underlying belief that like in some
  118. 4:33way we're broken yeah yeah yeah oh my I
  119. 4:37I so agree with you it's the messaging
  120. 4:40is like you did something wrong you have
  121. 4:42a genetic profile that you're doomed to
  122. 4:45to have a you know a disastrous outcome
  123. 4:48and everything is is is exogenously
  124. 4:51blamed at us and I really think that
  125. 4:55that comes from not only our Health Care
  126. 4:57system and I and I'm not trying to bash
  127. 4:59the healthare system but we have lost
  128. 5:00our way and it comes from for women
  129. 5:04specifically it comes from the messaging
  130. 5:06we get from you know social media and
  131. 5:08magazines like everything is outside in
  132. 5:11we got to go inside out now and start
  133. 5:14asking what we want on a physical
  134. 5:16spiritual emotional level so that we can
  135. 5:19create the life we want and stop looking
  136. 5:21outside for the answers we got to go
  137. 5:23within I love that inside inside out the
  138. 5:26inside out inside out living you got
  139. 5:28pretty famous from talking about this
  140. 5:30certain subject matter which is fasting
  141. 5:32yeah now I want to talk about fasting
  142. 5:34because I've heard about it and I I I'm
  143. 5:36sure here I represent a lot of my
  144. 5:38audience right now I've heard the term
  145. 5:40fasting I've heard loads of people in
  146. 5:42recent times over the last I'd say two
  147. 5:43years get really excited about it and
  148. 5:46say that it's a good thing yeah but
  149. 5:48that's really the extent of my knowledge
  150. 5:49on the subject so let's just start right
  151. 5:52there I mean you wrote a book called
  152. 5:54fast like a girl you've got so much
  153. 5:56content out on the internet about
  154. 5:57fasting for both men and women this book
  155. 5:59was written in
  156. 6:022022 why why why are you so focused on
  157. 6:06fasting why do I need to care about it
  158. 6:09what's it going to do for me it it's the
  159. 6:11quickest antidote to what we just said
  160. 6:14if we've got all this physical emotional
  161. 6:16chemical stress coming at us we've got
  162. 6:18taste buds we've got to change we've got
  163. 6:20behaviors we have to change there's a
  164. 6:22lot there but I can show you how to
  165. 6:25compress your eating window into a
  166. 6:2810-hour eating window leaving 14 hours
  167. 6:30for fasting something as simple as 14
  168. 6:32hours and I can show you how you can
  169. 6:35start to heal yourself without money
  170. 6:37without time it's you are literally
  171. 6:40tapping into a healing state that you
  172. 6:43never knew was there and I think part of
  173. 6:46why we've had so many people pour on to
  174. 6:48YouTube and so many women gravitate to
  175. 6:51the book is that it's it's so once you
  176. 6:54learn how to fast you start to see your
  177. 6:57body in this whole new way it can Absol
  178. 6:59absolutely heal itself so for me fasting
  179. 7:03became this incredible tool that
  180. 7:05everybody could do and we just had to
  181. 7:08learn how to do it the women that I'm
  182. 7:11watching that are just dropping I mean
  183. 7:14men and women hundreds of pounds and
  184. 7:16medications they're getting off of and
  185. 7:19mental health that's coming back just
  186. 7:21because I taught them how to compress
  187. 7:23their eating window and leave a longer
  188. 7:25time for rest so their body can repair
  189. 7:28that is all each individual is doing
  190. 7:30that I didn't do that I'm the type of
  191. 7:33person that very much needs
  192. 7:35like stats believe things I'm one of
  193. 7:38those people and once I've got the stats
  194. 7:40or some kind of like scientific evidence
  195. 7:42then I'm all in beautiful what do I need
  196. 7:45to know from a scientific standpoint
  197. 7:47what research has been done on fasting
  198. 7:49okay so let's let's go through the basic
  199. 7:51principle of fasting and I think this
  200. 7:53will help everybody is that you have two
  201. 7:56metabolisms so you burn energy when you
  202. 7:59eat
  203. 8:00and you burn energy when you don't eat
  204. 8:03but there are two different
  205. 8:04mechanisms so when you eat like let's
  206. 8:07use myself as an example I had eggs and
  207. 8:09some avocado for like around 11 o'clock
  208. 8:11today so that's going to bring my blood
  209. 8:13sugar up now as my blood sugar starts to
  210. 8:17drop what's going to happen is my body's
  211. 8:19going to switch over into this other
  212. 8:22Energy System and I call this the fat
  213. 8:24burning Energy System I call this one
  214. 8:26the sugar burner Energy System when it
  215. 8:29switch over into this fat burning Energy
  216. 8:32System it starts to make a byproduct
  217. 8:34called a ketone and that Ketone will go
  218. 8:38up into the brain and it starts to
  219. 8:40repair your brain and what most people
  220. 8:43don't realize is your brain is needs 50%
  221. 8:45ketones 50% glucose so you're giving a
  222. 8:48fuel source to your brain that it
  223. 8:51desperately needs which is why people
  224. 8:53when they fast are like their mental
  225. 8:55Clarity goes up their cognition improves
  226. 8:57their brain fog goes away because
  227. 8:59because you're literally giving a fuel
  228. 9:01source to your brain that it may never
  229. 9:03had have been given before it takes
  230. 9:07about eight somewhere between eight
  231. 9:09hours to metabolically switch over into
  232. 9:12this fat burning Place ah okay so if I'm
  233. 9:14doing a podcast and I want to be sharp
  234. 9:17yes I shouldn't eat eight hours before
  235. 9:19yes ah
  236. 9:21[ __ ] did you come back in seven
  237. 9:23hours seven
  238. 9:26hours yeah
  239. 9:28sure should have given you the memo
  240. 9:30before we got
  241. 9:31here yeah so I think of it like a hybrid
  242. 9:34car you know you you're SW you switch
  243. 9:36over into this fat burning place so at
  244. 9:39eight hours you start to make the switch
  245. 9:42by about 12 hours your body's now
  246. 9:44starting to make a good dose of ketones
  247. 9:47the brain is excited so you're getting
  248. 9:49that mental Clarity ketones turn off the
  249. 9:51hunger hormone so you also when you
  250. 9:53switch over at there's going to be a
  251. 9:55point which you're not hungry um and
  252. 9:57that all happens at about 12 hours but
  253. 10:00you're also if you stay there a little
  254. 10:02longer if you stay there and you go 14
  255. 10:05hours 15 hours so check this out
  256. 10:07research shows at 15 hours we see growth
  257. 10:11hormone go up okay growth hormone is the
  258. 10:14hormone that keeps you young and helps
  259. 10:15you burn fat we also see in men,
  260. 10:191300% increase in testosterone just from
  261. 10:23somewhere between a 13 to 15 hour fast
  262. 10:26133% increase in natural testost Stone
  263. 10:29stores and we can explain why that
  264. 10:32happens in a moment and then we start to
  265. 10:34see inflammation go down so all of a
  266. 10:37sudden if you have people who have like
  267. 10:38joints that are hurting they start doing
  268. 10:4015 hours of fasting every day and
  269. 10:42they're like God you know my joints just
  270. 10:44don't have that same stiffness in them
  271. 10:46anymore but if you stay in that fasted
  272. 10:50window you keep going 17 hours your
  273. 10:53brilliant body turns within and it goes
  274. 10:55wait a second no food's coming in we
  275. 10:57better get stronger so it literally
  276. 11:00takes this the bad cells the cells that
  277. 11:02are slowing you down the cells that are
  278. 11:04turning into cancer and it gets rid of
  279. 11:06those they're called ccent cells and it
  280. 11:08it literally recycles them out of your
  281. 11:10system and it goes into the cells that
  282. 11:13are still usable and it makes them
  283. 11:14stronger it fixes the inner Cellular
  284. 11:17Parts we call that autophagy and that
  285. 11:20actually was the if you want stats the
  286. 11:22Nobel Prize in 2015 by a Japanese
  287. 11:26scientist Dr osumi he won the Nobel
  288. 11:28Prize medicine and Physiology for this
  289. 11:31term called autophagy and that's when
  290. 11:33you go without food your cell your cells
  291. 11:36will heal
  292. 11:38themselves that was back in
  293. 11:402015 so I want to go into all of that I
  294. 11:42want to start with why why does why does
  295. 11:46fasting help so much and really like
  296. 11:47what I'm getting at there is if
  297. 11:49this if the effects of this are so
  298. 11:52profound in so many ways then where did
  299. 11:55we go wrong because from what I you know
  300. 11:58have been told breakfast lunch dinner
  301. 12:00yeah breakfast lunch dinner and then
  302. 12:02maybe you know dessert yeah and then you
  303. 12:05know yeah that's the narrative that I
  304. 12:07was brought up on yeah well breakfast is
  305. 12:09the most important meal a day I've done
  306. 12:11a lot of research on that phrase do you
  307. 12:13know where it came from no it was
  308. 12:16actually and I don't mean to diss any
  309. 12:18companies out there but it was a tagline
  310. 12:20that they came up with for cornflakes
  311. 12:22for Kellogg's cornflakes back in the
  312. 12:251970s they needed a tagline that made
  313. 12:27people eat corn flakes in in the morning
  314. 12:30and so they came up with cornflakes
  315. 12:32breakfast is the most important meal of
  316. 12:33the day and that has continued until
  317. 12:37this day we I can't find any research
  318. 12:40and and many other fasting experts many
  319. 12:43other blood sugar experts will tell you
  320. 12:44the same thing there's just no research
  321. 12:47showing that breakfast is the most
  322. 12:48important meal of the day so that became
  323. 12:51that became a a a myth that we need to
  324. 12:54bust second myth we've been taught is
  325. 12:57you can speed your metabolism up the
  326. 12:59more you eat six meals a day remember
  327. 13:02that one okay also a myth there is no
  328. 13:06evidence that the more you eat the
  329. 13:08faster your metabolism will be the F if
  330. 13:11you want a faster metabolism you need to
  331. 13:13know how to metabolically switch you
  332. 13:15need to know how to go from sugar burner
  333. 13:16to fat burner and that's where you start
  334. 13:19to lose weight so that's the SEC the the
  335. 13:22other myth that I feel like we have to
  336. 13:23break apart and then we have this you
  337. 13:26know I can tell you as a mother and I
  338. 13:28and this is you know not for anybody to
  339. 13:30have M mommy guilt but what we do as
  340. 13:33parents is we have certain statements we
  341. 13:35make to our kids like you know breakf
  342. 13:38dinner's being served the kitchen's
  343. 13:40closing in an hour um you need to eat
  344. 13:42lunch you need to eat breakfast like we
  345. 13:45are programmed when to eat by a clock
  346. 13:48not by our own internal sense so kids
  347. 13:52are raised to eat according to a clock
  348. 13:55not according to when they want to
  349. 13:58eat we don't say am I hungry right
  350. 14:02now that's so true we all wait until 1:
  351. 14:06p.m. to have lunch and the morning we
  352. 14:08wake up we feel like we we have to have
  353. 14:10breakfast or we're doing something wrong
  354. 14:12yep and then dinner time you know
  355. 14:13anytime between I don't know 6:00 and
  356. 14:15eight we have to sit down and eat again
  357. 14:18or we're doing something wrong yep like
  358. 14:20have you like if you just unwind that
  359. 14:23yeah where did that come from right
  360. 14:25usually from your parents and it came
  361. 14:27from a schedule what did my ancestors do
  362. 14:30before my parents existed and and my and
  363. 14:32the schedules existed I can tell you
  364. 14:34exactly what they did what did they do
  365. 14:36they came out of the cave I'm going to
  366. 14:38go back to our our Primal friends go
  367. 14:41back to our cave friends they came out
  368. 14:43of a cave they didn't have refrigerator
  369. 14:45they didn't have a pantry they didn't
  370. 14:47have door Dash they had to go find food
  371. 14:50did they have Uber Eats they didn't have
  372. 14:52Uber Eats delivery yeah I'm pretty sure
  373. 14:54they didn't have U eats but what they
  374. 14:56did is they came out of the cave and
  375. 14:58they went to go hunt hunt
  376. 14:59food sometimes they could make a kill
  377. 15:02really easily and bring it home and they
  378. 15:04would
  379. 15:05Feast sometimes the kill wasn't as easy
  380. 15:07and they had to go far to find an animal
  381. 15:10to kill
  382. 15:12exercise exercise but what did they do
  383. 15:14when they had to go super far and they
  384. 15:16couldn't get food they switched over
  385. 15:18into this ketogenic Energy System and
  386. 15:21that ketogenic Energy System supercharg
  387. 15:23them because every cell in the human
  388. 15:25body is the number one priority of our
  389. 15:29cells is survival so we were built to
  390. 15:31make sure we could stay alive in the
  391. 15:34absence of food so their ketones kicked
  392. 15:38in and when ketones kicked in they
  393. 15:39became mentally very focused so they
  394. 15:42could go find food they were able to
  395. 15:44stay calm ketones will affect a
  396. 15:47neurotransmitter called Gaba and cause G
  397. 15:49Gaba to come on so you feel calm you're
  398. 15:51focused ketones will power up your
  399. 15:53muscles so that all of a sudden you have
  400. 15:55this incredible muscular energy all
  401. 15:58because
  402. 15:59they were meant to go find food so they
  403. 16:01can bring it home okay so the body which
  404. 16:03is orientated towards survival when you
  405. 16:06hadn't eaten it invests a lot of its
  406. 16:08sort of resources in your brain to
  407. 16:10increase the chances that you'll catch
  408. 16:12something to eat so that's why when I
  409. 16:14fast or when I haven't eaten I'm very
  410. 16:16focused I'm very articulate that's right
  411. 16:18it seems um and I perform at my best
  412. 16:21Bingo that's it makes sense and then
  413. 16:23what what did they do when they got a
  414. 16:25kill they came home and they feasted
  415. 16:29they didn't necessarily ration it out
  416. 16:31they ate and then they divied it up
  417. 16:33again amongst the tribe and then they
  418. 16:35went out again until when the food was
  419. 16:37gone maybe a couple days maybe they'd
  420. 16:39Feast for a couple days when the food
  421. 16:41was gone they go out again it's called
  422. 16:43Feast famine cycling it is how humans
  423. 16:45were meant to be to live the challenge
  424. 16:49we have is we have access to food all
  425. 16:51the time that we are you know feasting
  426. 16:54has taken on a really negative
  427. 16:56connotation because we're feasting on
  428. 16:58the wrong Foods M but if we could go
  429. 17:00back and just be like our Primal friends
  430. 17:03and we could learn how to go in and out
  431. 17:05of this Feast famine cycling using
  432. 17:07fasting as as a tool for performance for
  433. 17:10healing and using food in the proper way
  434. 17:12and eating the right food so that our
  435. 17:14brains will work well and you know
  436. 17:16there's a whole hormonal pack or sense
  437. 17:18of of food that can help support
  438. 17:20hormones if we're really conscious about
  439. 17:22the quality of the food that we eat
  440. 17:25we're now mimicking what our Primal
  441. 17:27ancestors were doing does that also
  442. 17:29imply that we should exercise fasted
  443. 17:32because I was thinking if thinking about
  444. 17:34my ancestors they would have been doing
  445. 17:35the most physical activity when they
  446. 17:37hadn't eaten yet that's right yeah they
  447. 17:39would have been doing the most physical
  448. 17:40activity right before they ate yeah so
  449. 17:44really interesting point and and you and
  450. 17:46I were talking about this in the
  451. 17:47beginning is that when you exercise in a
  452. 17:50fasted State you're going to get rid of
  453. 17:53the glucose that's been stored in your
  454. 17:55muscles so as that glucose comes out
  455. 17:58because your body body needs it to go
  456. 17:59you know you you don't work 100% off of
  457. 18:03ketones and 100% off of glucose you're
  458. 18:05needing both of them at both time at at
  459. 18:08at different moments of your day so when
  460. 18:10you're exercising in a fasted State
  461. 18:12you're getting ketones and your muscles
  462. 18:15are releasing stored sugar which is
  463. 18:17great for anybody who wants to lose
  464. 18:19weight because now you can lean out
  465. 18:22those muscles now let's go back to what
  466. 18:24our Primal ancestors did when they came
  467. 18:26home they ate meat they ate protein and
  468. 18:30they stimulated something called mtor
  469. 18:32mtor is when you actually create muscle
  470. 18:35growth and what we now know is it takes
  471. 18:37about 30 grams of protein to trigger
  472. 18:40these amino acid receptor sites in the
  473. 18:42muscles to cause them to grow stronger
  474. 18:44so for you if you work out in a fasted
  475. 18:46State you're going to release all those
  476. 18:48stores you're going to have those
  477. 18:49ketones for performance but then you
  478. 18:51want to follow that up with protein so
  479. 18:53you can build your muscles strong and
  480. 18:55that is a hack that has worked
  481. 18:57incredibly well for for so many people
  482. 19:00okay historically people have thought
  483. 19:02that
  484. 19:03fasting is a one- siiz kind of fits all
  485. 19:06um technique and there's one kind of
  486. 19:08fasting which is you just I don't know
  487. 19:09you might just not eat for a prolong
  488. 19:11period of time but in your book and
  489. 19:13throughout your work you describe these
  490. 19:14six different types of fasting yeah what
  491. 19:18are the six types of fasting and tell me
  492. 19:21what the the difference is in outcome
  493. 19:22and benefit yeah it's a great question
  494. 19:25so again fasting is when we switch over
  495. 19:28so now we're in the fat burning uh place
  496. 19:31at about 13 to 15 hours we start making
  497. 19:33ketones this is intermittent fasting
  498. 19:36that's pretty much what most people when
  499. 19:37they say they're intermittent fasting
  500. 19:39that's what they're doing okay they take
  501. 19:4012 to 16 hours yeah they're making
  502. 19:43ketones testosterone's going up
  503. 19:45inflammation's coming down hunger might
  504. 19:48be going away they're kind of having
  505. 19:49this they might be a lot of people lose
  506. 19:51weight with that it's it's kind of the
  507. 19:53most common fast does it matter from the
  508. 19:55the window does it matter what time I
  509. 19:56start and what time I end you get to
  510. 19:58choose you choose what that window
  511. 20:00should be so I could eat at 3:00 a.m.
  512. 20:03you could there's a whole another level
  513. 20:04we can talk about why you don't want to
  514. 20:06eat in the dark what's ideal an ideal
  515. 20:08window do you think um I really like it
  516. 20:10depends on the on the time of the year
  517. 20:12but in the summer I really like
  518. 20:13somewhere if you're going to do an 8
  519. 20:14Hour eating window like 11 to 7 in the
  520. 20:18summer and then in the winter because
  521. 20:20it's darker earlier you would do more
  522. 20:22like a like a 10 to five kind of eating
  523. 20:26window it's not so hard to do 11 to S
  524. 20:28right
  525. 20:30not hard at all not hard at all that's
  526. 20:31not that's not fasting that's that's
  527. 20:33just a slight having a a slightly later
  528. 20:36breakfast and a slightly earlier dinner
  529. 20:38yeah but it's it's like being
  530. 20:39intentional right yeah exactly because
  531. 20:41you don't want to you got to you got to
  532. 20:43keep blood sugar low otherwise the
  533. 20:44minute blood sugar goes up you're going
  534. 20:46to switch over right so you can't put it
  535. 20:49you know if you walk past the kitchen
  536. 20:50and put a grape in your mouth yeah yeah
  537. 20:52exactly yeah yeah which is you pulled
  538. 20:54yourself guil of yes yes so that's the
  539. 20:57first type of the six fast
  540. 20:59um styles the second is I'm going to try
  541. 21:03and say this
  542. 21:04word or of ai ai AO
  543. 21:09aagi it's one way of saying it people
  544. 21:12say either call it um autophagy or
  545. 21:16autophagy people say it different you
  546. 21:18tell me I said it wrong I kind of landed
  547. 21:20on autophagy I feel like autophagy is
  548. 21:22the best way to say it autophagy fasting
  549. 21:24what's that so autophagy fasting is
  550. 21:26about 17 hours in with without food your
  551. 21:30cells will turn within and they'll start
  552. 21:31to heal themselves and that was what Dr
  553. 21:34osi's big uh Discovery was is that the
  554. 21:37cells clean themselves up so what's
  555. 21:39interesting on this one and this is
  556. 21:40something I really want to get out to
  557. 21:42the world is that when you stimulate
  558. 21:45autophagy what you're doing is you're
  559. 21:47turning on the intelligence inside the
  560. 21:49cell and that intelligence is looking
  561. 21:50around and it's going hey there's a
  562. 21:52virus there's a bacteria get them out so
  563. 21:56let's push these infections out out of
  564. 21:58the cell that mitochondria it's not
  565. 22:00working well we need to repair it that
  566. 22:02endoplasmic reticulum inside here it's
  567. 22:05it's lagging we need to fix it so it
  568. 22:07literally goes in and fixes everything
  569. 22:09inside the cell just at 17 hours but one
  570. 22:13of the greatest studies that was I've
  571. 22:14seen in fasting was done during covid
  572. 22:17and it showed that if a virus comes into
  573. 22:20a cell that's in a state of autophagy it
  574. 22:22can't replicate viruses have to live off
  575. 22:25of your energy system so when viruses go
  576. 22:28into a cell that's Laden with glucose
  577. 22:31they have a party in there they love
  578. 22:33that they munch on that and then they go
  579. 22:35out and they start replicating if you
  580. 22:37were in a fasted State when a virus
  581. 22:40comes in it can't replicate there's
  582. 22:42nothing inside that cell for that virus
  583. 22:44to take over and it
  584. 22:46dies why does that happen what's the
  585. 22:49reason for the the that sort of the CEO
  586. 22:52within my C looking around and saying
  587. 22:54right let's clean all this stuff up well
  588. 22:56because the it when once you've stim at
  589. 22:58autophagy there is one goal for that
  590. 23:00cell and that is survival so everything
  591. 23:03in there is on high alert okay
  592. 23:06everything is going to be in your
  593. 23:07survival interest so a virus is not in
  594. 23:09your surv survival interest so it pushes
  595. 23:11it out so it's kind of like an emergency
  596. 23:13signal because there's not been food for
  597. 23:15a while
  598. 23:16so it's kind of like the
  599. 23:18last the last attempt to do everything
  600. 23:21the body can to help you make it through
  601. 23:23this period of hunger or that's right
  602. 23:26that's right you've put yourself in this
  603. 23:28state of extreme healing and it's all
  604. 23:31based off of this idea that your body
  605. 23:33wants to stay
  606. 23:34alive okay so that's are you write in
  607. 23:36your book that that's good for balancing
  608. 23:38sex hormones and preventing colds so
  609. 23:41yeah with with autophagy it's great for
  610. 23:43preventing colds what here's what's
  611. 23:45interesting about autophagy for sex
  612. 23:48hormones is that the major part of your
  613. 23:50brain for both men and women that
  614. 23:52control hormonal all hormonal control is
  615. 23:56your hypothalamus and pituitary that
  616. 23:58part of the brain does not have a bloodb
  617. 24:00brain barrier so it's very vulnerable to
  618. 24:03toxins so whenever we have massive toxic
  619. 24:07exposure that part of the brain starts
  620. 24:10to malfunction we see this with uh
  621. 24:13polycystic ovarian syndrome most common
  622. 24:16hormonal imbalance for women well a lot
  623. 24:18of that is this imbalance of
  624. 24:20testosterone and estrogen and there's a
  625. 24:22huge toxic piece that has destroyed or
  626. 24:25or in interfered with the part of the
  627. 24:27brain that control
  628. 24:28hormones so when we look at
  629. 24:31autophagy there are certain parts of our
  630. 24:34system that are more uh easily
  631. 24:37influenced by autophagy than others well
  632. 24:39it turns out the hypothalamus and the
  633. 24:41pituitary are easily influenced by
  634. 24:43autophagy and can repair themselves when
  635. 24:45they're in the state of
  636. 24:47autophagy the other interesting cellular
  637. 24:50makeup that is highly influenced by
  638. 24:52autophagy are the the cells around the
  639. 24:55testes and the cells around the ovaries
  640. 24:58the those are the the cells that are
  641. 25:00putting out sex hormones and if you that
  642. 25:03whole system is malfunctioning when you
  643. 25:05go into a state of autophagy those cells
  644. 25:08will respond and become better cells and
  645. 25:10be better at producing these hormones
  646. 25:13because of you dipping in and out of the
  647. 25:16state of
  648. 25:17autophagy that really got me thinking
  649. 25:18because I've been looking at a lot of
  650. 25:21companies from an investment standpoint
  651. 25:22at the moment that are trying to solve
  652. 25:24for this macro decline in male
  653. 25:27testosterone you know I had a few guests
  654. 25:29come on this podcast and tell me that
  655. 25:31male testosterone has been decl
  656. 25:32declining year-over-year and then kind
  657. 25:34of paired with that we're becoming more
  658. 25:37and more sexless our libidos seem to be
  659. 25:41in Decline I've got a lot of close
  660. 25:43friends of mine that are taking certain
  661. 25:45hormonal um supplements to try and get
  662. 25:47their libidos back up and for the first
  663. 25:49time ever in on a show called Dragon's
  664. 25:51Den that I'm on in the UK we had someone
  665. 25:53come into the den for an investment that
  666. 25:55was producing a supplement to try and
  667. 25:56get our sex drive back feels like a big
  668. 25:59macro conversation that we're not having
  669. 26:01and looking at your work and the work
  670. 26:03around you've done about fasting and
  671. 26:04what you said there it seems like there
  672. 26:06could potentially be a link yeah between
  673. 26:08the two the ways we're living our life
  674. 26:10and what we're eating and our decline in
  675. 26:11testosterone and our libidos there's a
  676. 26:15beautiful book I don't know if you've
  677. 26:16read it called countdown and it's about
  678. 26:18the sperm counts going down in across
  679. 26:21the world and I actually brought her
  680. 26:23onto my podcast the woman who wrote the
  681. 26:25book and she said that there's one
  682. 26:27chemical that's reducing uh sperm counts
  683. 26:30more than any and it's phades and phades
  684. 26:34are in fragrances oh they're in our
  685. 26:37Colones they're in our perfumes they're
  686. 26:38in our laundry detergents they're in our
  687. 26:40air fresheners they also are now
  688. 26:43infiltrated into our water so they've
  689. 26:45infiltrated into they're now being
  690. 26:47sprayed on our Foods animals that are
  691. 26:49drinking the water have phalates in them
  692. 26:52so it's the number one toxin that's
  693. 26:54destroying testosterone levels and it's
  694. 26:57a brilliant book that she wrote you talk
  695. 27:00about in the reset factory your first
  696. 27:01book from 2016 chapter 10 you said
  697. 27:04something which I hadn't quite um
  698. 27:06appreciated you said that even the
  699. 27:08things we put on our skin are absorbed
  700. 27:11into our body um and then they go
  701. 27:13directly into our bloodstream and into
  702. 27:15our kidneys I didn't think when I read
  703. 27:16that it got me thinking because there's
  704. 27:18so many things that I sort of
  705. 27:20unconsciously just spray on my body
  706. 27:22right every day and I never look at
  707. 27:24what's in them because I just think it's
  708. 27:25on the outside and it'll wash off y but
  709. 27:27now you're saying that yeah your skin is
  710. 27:30a breathable organ so it's going to push
  711. 27:33toxins out and it's going to take toxins
  712. 27:35in so think about it if you've ever like
  713. 27:38eaten something that didn't react well
  714. 27:40with you you might get a rash that's
  715. 27:42your brilliant body trying to push that
  716. 27:44toxin out but the same thing happens
  717. 27:46when you put something on your skin it
  718. 27:48actually goes into your body so a good
  719. 27:51general rule is if you aren't willing to
  720. 27:53eat it don't put it on your skin and
  721. 27:56beyond that if we even look at at the
  722. 27:58microbiome you have bacteria on your
  723. 28:01skin that protect you and that bacteria
  724. 28:04is are actually talking to the bacteria
  725. 28:06in our gut there's actually a connection
  726. 28:08between the two bacteria so if you start
  727. 28:11putting things on your skin that destroy
  728. 28:13that microbiome you're actually going to
  729. 28:16ultimately have an adverse effect on the
  730. 28:18microbiome in your gut so what you put
  731. 28:21on your skin is massively important and
  732. 28:23then the smell we know the hippocampus
  733. 28:26which is the seat of all Alzheimer's and
  734. 28:28Dementia is also where the olfactory
  735. 28:31nerve innervates so when we smell
  736. 28:34something toxic and breathe something
  737. 28:36toxic in it goes straight into the
  738. 28:38hippocampus and starts to create
  739. 28:40degeneration in those neurons that are
  740. 28:42ultimately can lead to dementia and
  741. 28:44Alzheimer's toxicity is a huge human
  742. 28:48problem
  743. 28:50toxicity when you say the word toxicity
  744. 28:52how are you defining that you're saying
  745. 28:54like toxic chemicals that we introduced
  746. 28:56into our lives on our skin consume
  747. 28:58inhale have around us Bingo and that are
  748. 29:01in our Foods Etc yep Bingo what are what
  749. 29:04are some of the the most toxic chemicals
  750. 29:07or Foods or products that we consume
  751. 29:10without thinking that you think we need
  752. 29:12to stop consuming on a day-to-day basis
  753. 29:15oh here's the most the easiest one is
  754. 29:17Plastics BPA plastic they say that it's
  755. 29:20that there's it's not a matter of if you
  756. 29:23have plastic in your body it's a matter
  757. 29:24of how much so let's use it in a in
  758. 29:28context of something that people are
  759. 29:30really motivated by which is weight loss
  760. 29:32what's BPA plastics it's it's a it's a
  761. 29:34chemical within plastic that's within
  762. 29:37our water bottles it's on in our
  763. 29:40Tupperware um they actually are putting
  764. 29:42they're saying that they're now in the
  765. 29:43microfibers of our of our clothes and
  766. 29:46that's being washed out to this it gets
  767. 29:48really depressing when you start talking
  768. 29:49about toxins gets washed out into our
  769. 29:51oceans so but the for the sake of
  770. 29:54Simplicity it's it's you know bottles
  771. 29:57mostly that you see but you know we've
  772. 29:59got plastic containers we've got plastic
  773. 30:01plates we've got plastic everything and
  774. 30:03that is has BPA in it and that is a a a
  775. 30:07toxin that destroys human health and the
  776. 30:10biggest and most interesting thing that
  777. 30:12BPA Plastics do is there was a study
  778. 30:15around something called a Audy Mouse and
  779. 30:17they took this mouse that had a gene for
  780. 30:21obesity and they were twins they fed
  781. 30:23them the same food they gave them the
  782. 30:25same amount of exercise but one of the
  783. 30:28mice got introduced BPA plastic and the
  784. 30:32one that got the BPA plastic all of a
  785. 30:34sudden started to gain weight and the
  786. 30:36hair color started to change and they
  787. 30:39that was the only difference between
  788. 30:40these two mouse mice with the same
  789. 30:42genetic profile and so then when they
  790. 30:45detoxed the BPA plastic out the mouse
  791. 30:48lost weight so that was the beginning of
  792. 30:50us understanding a term called obesogens
  793. 30:53and obesogens are toxins that actually
  794. 30:56make us insulin resistant actually cause
  795. 30:58us to hold on to to more weight and
  796. 31:01that's just one category of
  797. 31:04toxins well that's terrifying it is
  798. 31:07terrifying to be completely you know
  799. 31:10from the center of my heart this is it's
  800. 31:13this is why we have to educate ourselves
  801. 31:16this is why we have to wake up we have
  802. 31:18to understand that we are living in the
  803. 31:21most toxic time in human history and it
  804. 31:24doesn't it's not just mental stress it's
  805. 31:26not just social media it's a barrage of
  806. 31:29all of that that is pulling us off
  807. 31:32course and I can tell you that I have
  808. 31:34sat with some of the most brilliant
  809. 31:35doctors who are generally so concerned
  810. 31:39on the direction of humanity and where
  811. 31:42we're going because of the abundance of
  812. 31:44these
  813. 31:46toxins as you said that I could see a
  814. 31:48sadness in your face where does that
  815. 31:51come
  816. 31:52from I think it's really easy when you
  817. 31:55hear a podcast like this and and what
  818. 31:58saying to reject what I'm saying because
  819. 32:00it's it's too
  820. 32:02overwhelming to
  821. 32:04understand what the evolutionary
  822. 32:07mismatch we're in right
  823. 32:09now
  824. 32:11we so many people are suffering whether
  825. 32:14it's physical or mental mentally and
  826. 32:17they don't realize that it's everything
  827. 32:20from the food to their shampoos to the
  828. 32:23plastic water bottles it's it's so vast
  829. 32:27and yet nobody doing anything about it
  830. 32:30and and that's where my heart hurts it's
  831. 32:33like people are suffering that don't
  832. 32:35need to be suffering and if they
  833. 32:37understood that the modern world we're
  834. 32:40living in has taken us so off course
  835. 32:43with our health and we've got to start
  836. 32:46to one by one figure out how to bring it
  837. 32:48back on
  838. 32:49course and you know yesterday I sat with
  839. 32:52um Dr Dale bredis on my and interviewed
  840. 32:55him on my podcast he wrote a book called
  841. 32:57the end of Alzheimer's and he laid out
  842. 33:00seven things that we need to do to stop
  843. 33:03Al Alzheimer's and he strongly feels
  844. 33:05that Alzheimer's is optional you don't
  845. 33:08have to you don't have to get that and
  846. 33:11those seven
  847. 33:13things are so intense like it's
  848. 33:18everything from detoxing to
  849. 33:20metabolically switching to prioritizing
  850. 33:22sleep to human connection to um
  851. 33:26understanding e you know what the best
  852. 33:28exercise is for you and it's easy for
  853. 33:32humans to look at those seven things and
  854. 33:34go I'm out I can't do all
  855. 33:36that but we if we want to exist on this
  856. 33:40planet we're going to have to do that
  857. 33:43that's the new level of Health we're in
  858. 33:44right now and I'm I love being the
  859. 33:47cheerleader I want to be the one that's
  860. 33:48like come on we can do it but I also
  861. 33:51need people to understand that where
  862. 33:53we're living as humans right now is a
  863. 33:55very very dangerous place and it's just
  864. 33:57in the existence of moving in and out of
  865. 34:00grocery stores and restaurants and you
  866. 34:03know and the drugstore everything has a
  867. 34:05toxic insult on us and it's overwhelming
  868. 34:08it's
  869. 34:10overwhelming drastic action because
  870. 34:13we've we're so drastically far away from
  871. 34:15where we're supposed to be Y where our
  872. 34:17ancestors were y we've built up this
  873. 34:19Society that's full of plastics and
  874. 34:21toxins and alcohol and drugs and sugar
  875. 34:25everywhere and I can't move in bloody
  876. 34:27New York city which is where we are now
  877. 34:29without someone offering me you know
  878. 34:32every block is almost every block is
  879. 34:35really bad food horrible but food that
  880. 34:37tempts the certain part of my brain that
  881. 34:39maybe is looking to help me stay alive
  882. 34:42and to survive whether it's pizza or
  883. 34:45sweets or whatever it might be yeah um
  884. 34:49so it's it is difficult and I have a
  885. 34:50great deal of empathy for anyone that's
  886. 34:53struggling yeah with it me too me too
  887. 34:56it's a it's a it's it's it's we've hit a
  888. 34:59point where the door out of poor health
  889. 35:01is
  890. 35:02multifaceted it's not just one door and
  891. 35:06if you're healthy and you're just like
  892. 35:08you know someone like you just wants to
  893. 35:09get in better shape then the path is a
  894. 35:11little bit easier MH but what do we do
  895. 35:14for the for the person that gets the
  896. 35:15cancer diagnosis what do we do for the
  897. 35:18woman who's suicidal in going through
  898. 35:21her menopause years like where are we
  899. 35:23helping her how are we getting to them
  900. 35:26and each time they walk into their
  901. 35:28doctor's office they're typically giving
  902. 35:30getting a pill and not being taught how
  903. 35:33to live a life that works with their
  904. 35:36body in this modern world that's where
  905. 35:38we have to get to quick one before we
  906. 35:40get back to this episode just give me 30
  907. 35:42seconds of your time two things I wanted
  908. 35:44to say the first thing is a huge thank
  909. 35:46you for listening and tuning into the
  910. 35:48show week after week means the well to
  911. 35:50all of us and this really is a dream
  912. 35:51that we absolutely never had and
  913. 35:53couldn't have imagined getting to this
  914. 35:54place but secondly it's a dream where we
  915. 35:57feel like like we're only just getting
  916. 35:58started and if you enjoy what we do here
  917. 36:01please join the 24% of people who watch
  918. 36:03this channel regularly and have hit the
  919. 36:05Subscribe button means more than I can
  920. 36:08say and if you hit that subscribe button
  921. 36:10here's a promise I'm going to make to
  922. 36:11you I'm going to do everything in my
  923. 36:13power to make this show as good as I can
  924. 36:16now and into the future we're going to
  925. 36:17deliver the guests that you want me to
  926. 36:19speak to and we're going to continue to
  927. 36:21keep doing all of the things you love
  928. 36:22about the show thank you thank you so
  929. 36:25much back to the episode you told me
  930. 36:27about the first two styles of fasting
  931. 36:29the first one was intim fasting which is
  932. 36:3112 to 16 hours which is good for weight
  933. 36:33loss brain fog that kind of thing the
  934. 36:35second is autography autophagy what did
  935. 36:40I say autography but I like it I said
  936. 36:43autophagy I said autophagy we can play
  937. 36:45that back I definitely said autophagy
  938. 36:46and if I didn't we'll fix it with AI um
  939. 36:48autophagy fasting which is 17 to 72
  940. 36:50hours good for balancing sex hormones
  941. 36:52and preventing illness yeah number three
  942. 36:56we haven't spoken about gut reset fast
  943. 36:58yeah what's that yeah so that's based
  944. 37:00off uh a study that came out of MIT that
  945. 37:04showed 24 hours without food and your
  946. 37:07intestinal stem cells inside your gut
  947. 37:10actually start to reboot themselves now
  948. 37:12a stem cell is a cell that can go to
  949. 37:15anywhere in the body and repair itself
  950. 37:17but at 24 hours you get a plethora of
  951. 37:20them in your gut and in the gut we've
  952. 37:24got a damaged microbiome from everything
  953. 37:27that that we've just been talking about
  954. 37:29so what I discovered in this 24-hour
  955. 37:31fast is I could take women that have
  956. 37:32been on birth control pill for years um
  957. 37:36people that had been on multiple rounds
  958. 37:37of antibiotics people who had been
  959. 37:39eating horrible food and I could
  960. 37:42actually put them through a 24-hour fast
  961. 37:44once a week once every couple of weeks
  962. 37:46and these stem cells would come in there
  963. 37:48and they would start to repair and so
  964. 37:50now if I teach that person How to Eat
  965. 37:53Right their food is actually starting to
  966. 37:55build a better microbiome in the gut so
  967. 37:59that 24-hour fast became this go-to in
  968. 38:01my clinic where I could take all these
  969. 38:04gut challenges and I could start to
  970. 38:06unwind them just because I knew the body
  971. 38:09had this capability of making these
  972. 38:11intestinal stem cells and it was crazy
  973. 38:14like we got people off supplements we
  974. 38:15got people that were didn't weren't
  975. 38:18making serotonin which affects moods
  976. 38:20comes from the gut all of a sudden
  977. 38:21started to become happier people who
  978. 38:23hadn't had bowel movements in like three
  979. 38:26days all of a sudden we started to put
  980. 38:27in these this gut reset and it was like
  981. 38:30a miracle it was incredible number four
  982. 38:33fat burner fast so the fat burner fast
  983. 38:36is probably my favorite for those people
  984. 38:38who want to lose weight the research was
  985. 38:40done that 36 hours without food followed
  986. 38:43by 12 hours of eating and then another
  987. 38:4730 they actually did it over a 30-day
  988. 38:49period but we've been using it in our
  989. 38:50community just dosing it in that at 36
  990. 38:54hours what happens is that's enough time
  991. 38:56where the blood sugars come come down
  992. 38:59where all of a sudden the body it's so
  993. 39:02smart it goes okay blood sugar's not
  994. 39:05common we've been in this fasted State
  995. 39:07we've triggered autophagy we've brought
  996. 39:09inflammation down we've made you ketones
  997. 39:11we're trying to go find food but this
  998. 39:14extra weight it's not serving you you
  999. 39:16because remember you got to go find food
1000. 39:18so it drops weight and it's the most
1001. 39:21beautiful way to get a person to unstick
1002. 39:25any kind of weight loss resistance
1003. 39:28but most importantly you know where it
1004. 39:29dropped the most amount of weight from
1005. 39:32where does everybody want to lose weight
1006. 39:33belly yep so it is the I probably should
1007. 39:36have called it the fat burning belly fat
1008. 39:38burning yeah the belly fat yeah that
1009. 39:40would have banged yeah but yeah and so
1010. 39:42that's what they showed is that actually
1011. 39:44a 36-hour fast started to unstick weight
1012. 39:47loss and it was started with weight
  1013. 39:49around the
  1014. 39:50belly
1015. 39:52compelling number five the dopamine
1016. 39:55reset fast yeah so number five um I
1017. 39:58found some research showing that when
1018. 40:01people go without food for 48 hours the
1019. 40:04whole dopamine system will be rebooted
1020. 40:06so what's important to know about the
1021. 40:08dopamine system is it is our molecule of
1022. 40:12happiness it is the thing that it's
  1023. 40:14actually a motivation molecule and it's
1024. 40:16a neurotransmitter that allows thoughts
1025. 40:19happy thoughts to go across from neuron
1026. 40:22to neuron and so what happens and I'm
1027. 40:25sure you've talked about this on your
1028. 40:26podcast that were so dopamine saturated
1029. 40:29right now but specifically people who
1030. 40:31are Overeaters they actually are finding
1031. 40:34the study I quote in the book is that
1032. 40:36they found that people who had food
1033. 40:38addiction people who had extra weight
  1034. 40:41like obese
1035. 40:42situations they were not getting as much
1036. 40:45happiness out of their food because
1037. 40:47their dopamine receptor sites were
1038. 40:49saturated so they had to eat more food
1039. 40:52to get more happiness and a lot and you
1040. 40:55know food is a state Chang it does make
1041. 40:58us happy so what they found is if they
1042. 41:01put them into a 48 hour fast that they
1043. 41:03actually rebooted the whole dopamine
1044. 41:04system and new dopamine Reyes appeared
1045. 41:07so that when they brought food back in
1046. 41:10to the equation they actually got more
1047. 41:12enjoyment out of food with less food
1048. 41:14this kind of got me thinking about a
  1049. 41:16conversation I was having yesterday with
1050. 41:17some of my team here we were talking
1051. 41:18about how um it almost feels like
  1052. 41:22sometimes if I've eaten sugar I can go
  1053. 41:23into a bit of a sugar cycle and what I
1054. 41:25mean by that is I'll have some sugar and
  1055. 41:27then like a couple of hours later I'll
1056. 41:29have another craving for sugar and then
1057. 41:31a couple of hours later I'll have
1058. 41:32another craving for sugar but then at
1059. 41:33other times specifically for example
  1060. 41:34when I did keto I was I did the keto
1061. 41:37diet for about eight months uh eight
1062. 41:38weeks bloody eight months I wish um
1063. 41:41eight weeks and throughout that period I
1064. 41:42didn't have any cravings for sugar yep I
1065. 41:45would we had some chocolate come into
1066. 41:46the studio and I walked over to the
  1067. 41:47chocolate and I smelled it yep and I
1068. 41:50didn't want any of it yep it had gone
1069. 41:52but then when I'm in my what I call like
1070. 41:53the sugar cycle I'm eating sugar maybe
  1071. 41:56you know once twice a day and I'm
1072. 41:58getting like the craving for it where
  1073. 41:59which I just can't seem to resist yep
  1074. 42:02well dopamine's the molecule more it's
1075. 42:05not the molecule of enough so what it
1076. 42:07does is when you get sugar you get this
1077. 42:10dopamine rush and the Brain goes woo
1078. 42:12love that give me more of that and so
  1079. 42:15you con you it's it's endless you will
1080. 42:17never be fully satisfied it constantly
1081. 42:20wants you to come back for more and more
1082. 42:22and more so when you start to go off the
  1083. 42:24ketogenic Energy System you're getting
1084. 42:26the same Foria you probably felt the
1085. 42:28same high the same mental Clarity but
1086. 42:31you've totally taken this molecule more
1087. 42:33out of the out of the picture it's it in
1088. 42:35fact dopamine will actually you know you
1089. 42:38you get those receptor sites that will
  1090. 42:39be repaired but you're not getting a big
  1091. 42:42dopamine buzz when you're in a ketogenic
  1092. 42:44State you're getting ketones I was I was
1093. 42:46mulling it with my team how long I had
1094. 42:48to stay away from sugar to kind of get
1095. 42:50out of that vicious give me more cycle
1096. 42:53yeah my experience has been it's about
  1097. 42:55three days three days that's what I
1098. 42:57thought yeah I think I said four or five
1099. 42:59but it's just from experience as well if
  1100. 43:01I haven't had sugar for 3 or four days I
  1101. 43:04mean like a like a chocolate but
1102. 43:05something significant in terms of sugar
1103. 43:07then after three or four days the
1104. 43:08craving for it seems to to vanish yeah
  1105. 43:11yeah it's not it's not if you think
  1106. 43:13about that it's not hard if you're
  1107. 43:14trying to overcome a sugar addiction
1108. 43:17yeah like just bear it for three days
1109. 43:20and then that dopamine stops barking at
1110. 43:22you and then if you attack fasting onto
1111. 43:25it now you're getting ketones and so
1112. 43:28you're not needing that as much ketones
1113. 43:30kill hunger and they make you so
1114. 43:32mentally mentally clear they give you
1115. 43:34this euphoric feeling so you don't have
1116. 43:36that urge to go for the for the sugar
1117. 43:38and the ketones come from fasting which
1118. 43:40is when your body switches metabolic
1119. 43:42State go yeah the last and final fasting
1120. 43:45style immune reset fast yeah so immune
1121. 43:49reset was built off of Dr vter Longo's
1122. 43:51work and he did a study on people who
1123. 43:55had cancer and were going through ch
1124. 43:57therapy and one of the challenges we
1125. 43:59know about chemotherapy is that it wipes
1126. 44:01out the whole immune system and so he
1127. 44:03wanted to see well what if I put
1128. 44:05somebody in a fasted State as they went
  1129. 44:07through chemotherapy would there be a
1130. 44:09difference and what he found is after
1131. 44:11three days of fasting the white blood
1132. 44:13cells in our system actually reboot
1133. 44:16themselves so what they do is all old
1134. 44:18white blood cells are are sloughed away
1135. 44:21and new white blood cells emerge so
1136. 44:23people were able to come out of that
  1137. 44:26chemo therapy experience and have a
1138. 44:29stronger immune system as opposed to
1139. 44:30what we were seeing was that it was
1140. 44:32wiping the immune system out so that
  1141. 44:35launched the whole three-day water fast
1142. 44:37sort of craze at least here in America
1143. 44:40we're seeing a lot of people that are
1144. 44:42just going after three-day water fast to
1145. 44:45Prime their immune system but you also
1146. 44:48also at three days get stem cells full
1147. 44:50systemic stem cells so all of a sudden
1148. 44:53your body's got in surging with stem
1149. 44:55cells going to all parts of the body
1150. 44:57repairing it the great example I always
1151. 44:59use on this one was I had an Achilles
1152. 45:02tendon injury and nothing was nothing
  1153. 45:05was helping it so I threw a 5-day water
1154. 45:07fast at it on the fourth day I felt this
1155. 45:11buzz in my achilles tendon I was like oh
1156. 45:13wonder what that is and it stayed all
1157. 45:17the way through I went five full days
1158. 45:19and um about the fifth and sixth day so
1159. 45:22sixth day I was entering food back in
1160. 45:25all the pain completely went away and it
  1161. 45:27never came back I tried everything I
1162. 45:30tried everything and that was the only
  1163. 45:31thing that repaired
1164. 45:33it it does make again evolutionary sense
1165. 45:36that if our body senses we're injured
1166. 45:40because we're not eating or you know
1167. 45:41some other signal that we
1168. 45:44are on a course to not survive to put it
1169. 45:48nicely it does make sense that it might
1170. 45:51set about to repair whatever needs to be
  1171. 45:52repaired you're getting it you know
  1172. 45:54because like if I was a wounded human
1173. 45:56back in on the savanas of I don't know
1174. 45:58Africa or wherever we came from um and
1175. 46:01I'm laid there and I'm not eating my
1176. 46:04body should probably go okay Steve might
1177. 46:06need something fixed so he can get back
1178. 46:08to yeah hunting so you're getting it so
1179. 46:13survival that is the number one priority
1180. 46:17of the body so when you go without food
1181. 46:20you amplify every resource it has to
1182. 46:23keep you alive and if repairing my
1183. 46:26Achilles means I can now go hunt for
1184. 46:28food it's going to do that it's going to
  1185. 46:30make me stronger and I in the book I I
  1186. 46:33stumbled when I was writing the book I
  1187. 46:35stumbled upon a really cool hypothesis
1188. 46:38that's called the Thrifty Gene
  1189. 46:39hypothesis and it said that what it's a
  1190. 46:43theory obviously it's a hypothesis it's
1191. 46:45a theory that the people the humans that
1192. 46:48evolved out of the Primal days had a
1193. 46:51very specific genotype and this genotype
1194. 46:54allowed us to metabolically flex and and
1195. 46:57be stronger in a fasted State because we
1196. 47:00had to survive and the people that
1197. 47:03didn't make it from that time period
1198. 47:05didn't have that Gene but think about
1199. 47:07this for this moment so they think we
1200. 47:10all have this Gene inside of us right
1201. 47:12now this Thrifty Gene where we can go
1202. 47:15long periods without food and we can
  1203. 47:17survive so what happens when we're
1204. 47:20eating all day what happens when we're
  1205. 47:22ignoring and we're not actually
  1206. 47:24activating that genetic profile
1207. 47:27so what they are now believing is that
1208. 47:29diabetes metabolic syndrome all of that
1209. 47:31is largely happening because we are
1210. 47:34going against the G the genetic profile
1211. 47:36that we are now seeing in humans we're
1212. 47:38like on the opposite end of the spectrum
  1213. 47:41we're overloading our bodies
1214. 47:43yeah which is meaning that the survival
1215. 47:47Gene you referen there is not being
  1216. 47:48activated to help us that's right that's
1217. 47:51right interesting what about what about
1218. 47:54coffee you know if I'm going to fast
1219. 47:56asked for I know people are so addicted
  1220. 47:58to coffee so I feel like I have to ask a
  1221. 48:00question as their representative if I'm
1222. 48:02going to fast do any of these six fasts
1223. 48:03that you just mentioned does coffee
1224. 48:05break that fast yeah it does break it no
1225. 48:08well it depends okay so this is this I'm
  1226. 48:10just I yes or
1227. 48:11no um I can't give you a yes or no on it
1228. 48:15I'm going to give you most likely okay
1229. 48:17no let me give you most likely it's okay
  1230. 48:21okay most likely it's okay yes there's
1231. 48:23not a high degree of certainty and
1232. 48:25conviction there no let me let me
1233. 48:27explain myself okay so when you drink a
1234. 48:30cup of coffee it shouldn't spike your
1235. 48:31blood sugar it shouldn't should not it
1236. 48:34doesn't so if it does it shouldn't so if
1237. 48:38you have black coffee and your blood
  1238. 48:39sugar doesn't Spike and you're you're
1239. 48:41trying to metabolically switch over into
  1240. 48:43your fasting window you're good you're
1241. 48:46golden drink that black coffee okay okay
1242. 48:48now I'm gonna add some sugar to it okay
  1243. 48:52now now you're not switch now you've
  1244. 48:54pulled you've pulled yourself out of
1245. 48:55fasted State uh okay so no sugar just a
1246. 48:58plain coffee with no milk or sugar in it
1247. 49:01is is most likely going to keep you in a
1248. 49:03fasted State most likely uh well I've
  1249. 49:06seen a few occasions where it didn't
1250. 49:08okay um this is why we have people test
1251. 49:10their blood sugar like it it it's Unique
1252. 49:12to you so you can test your blood sugar
1253. 49:15have the cup of coffee half an hour
1254. 49:17later check your blood sugar again those
1255. 49:19numbers should be equal okay so for most
1256. 49:21people coffee should be fine when
  1257. 49:22they're fasting but there's a couple of
1258. 49:24an anomalies who their blood sugar does
1259. 49:26Spike yes um which means that they're
1260. 49:29not going to switch over to the fasted
1261. 49:31State yes yes exactly and you know
  1262. 49:34coffee mate
1263. 49:36creamers um those can be a little more
1264. 49:39problematic um but some people put full
1265. 49:42fat cream in there with no sugar um some
1266. 49:45people put MCT oil in there you know the
1267. 49:48buttered coffee became very very common
1268. 49:50and that was because of the fasting
1269. 49:51movement so the reason they did that was
1270. 49:55because when you put a fat in coffee you
1271. 49:57stabilized your blood sugar and so you
1272. 50:00were able to stay in the fasted State
1273. 50:02and switch over I had glucose God this
1274. 50:04on the podcast who um Jesse she talks a
1275. 50:07lot about glucose spikes it was the
1276. 50:09first time my eyes were really open to
1277. 50:10the consequence of living a life where
1278. 50:12your glucose levels are spiking and
1279. 50:14crashing and spiking and crashing and
1280. 50:15I've invested in this company called Zoe
1281. 50:17where they give you a glucose monitor
1282. 50:19which I attached to my arm for 14 days
1283. 50:20as part of the initial test and then
1284. 50:22they give me this big sort of nutrition
1285. 50:23plan and profile and um that was the
1286. 50:25first time I got to see you know I was
1287. 50:27in America at the time I was I was in LA
  1288. 50:28for a couple of months and I in La I
  1289. 50:31mean I pulled up at a gas station and I
  1290. 50:34was it's funny I was walking through
1291. 50:35this gas station and everything in there
1292. 50:37was sugar it's CU cuz now I was looking
1293. 50:40right now I had my eyes open cuz I'm
1294. 50:41wearing this bloody monitor so I'm about
1295. 50:43to see the impact within minutes that it
1296. 50:45has on my body and I was just looking
1297. 50:46around thinking oh my God the only thing
1298. 50:49that I can see in this whole store that
1299. 50:51I can eat without spiking my glucose is
1300. 50:54water so is it a monitor where you can
1301. 50:56see it you can scan it yeah yeah so so
1302. 50:59they've got two Game Changer yeah so
1303. 51:00they've got two one of them you scan the
  1304. 51:02new one they've got it's automatic by
1305. 51:04Bluetooth so it just keeps constantly
1306. 51:06updating on your phone I honestly think
1307. 51:10we could dramatically change the health
1308. 51:13of the world if everybody put one of
1309. 51:15those on amen amen because then what you
1310. 51:19would do is you would just go cuz you
1311. 51:20know this is like coffee like you should
1312. 51:22it should be so simple for me just to
1313. 51:24say yes drink your coffee you're fine
1314. 51:26but your microbiome in your gut is going
1315. 51:29to determine what it does with whatever
1316. 51:31hits that so it's going to determine
1317. 51:32your blood sugar levels your microbiome
1318. 51:35my microbiome completely different so
  1319. 51:37food no longer is a one-size fits all
1320. 51:40there's an individual approach so you
1321. 51:42have to know what your blood sugar is
1322. 51:43doing yeah you know like when I eat
  1323. 51:45believe it or not when I eat a grass-fed
1324. 51:47steak my blood sugar goes down it's
1325. 51:50amazing wow so whereas other people eat
1326. 51:54a steak and their blood sugar goes Super
1327. 51:56high and so then again you go to a
1328. 52:00thread of this conversation which is how
1329. 52:02do we help Humanity yeah and Humanity
1330. 52:05wants the one size fits all I can't give
1331. 52:08you that yeah you're gonna have to learn
1332. 52:10your own you got to learn you and
1333. 52:13something like that teaches you you but
1334. 52:16you're going to have to become very
1335. 52:17curious about you like you are and
1336. 52:21what's really fun to me when you put one
  1337. 52:22of those things on I it's my favorite
1338. 52:24thing to do with patience is I say just
1339. 52:27eat normal just eat everything yeah yeah
1340. 52:28yeah and then and then every day I have
1341. 52:30them send me their readings and we just
  1342. 52:32talk it through I I just did this with a
  1343. 52:35beautiful patient that I've been working
1344. 52:36with who has a long history of eating
1345. 52:39disorders and she was counting calories
1346. 52:42and um really wanted the control of
1347. 52:45being able to keep her weight where she
1348. 52:47was where where it needed to be and I
1349. 52:50said okay you can count calories if you
1350. 52:51want but I just want you to stick this
  1351. 52:53monitor on and let's just eat and let's
1352. 52:55see what you're doing and she was vegan
  1353. 52:56and and this isn't a this isn't an
1354. 52:59anti-vegan conversation but her spikes
1355. 53:01were up and down and up and down like
1356. 53:03there was like eight of them a day and
1357. 53:05her moods followed those spikes too and
1358. 53:08so then we started to go okay well let's
1359. 53:10add a protein here could we add fat here
1360. 53:12could we add some more fiber here and
1361. 53:14she got to watch for herself and within
1362. 53:17four weeks she was free of any food
1363. 53:20control and she was off teaching
1364. 53:22everybody else it was so beautiful to
1365. 53:24watch that calorie counting point
  1366. 53:27though there's a there's a big school of
1367. 53:29thought that in order to lose weight and
1368. 53:31be healthy all you've got to do is count
  1369. 53:32those calories yeah you know there's
1370. 53:35something called a set point have you
1371. 53:37heard about the set point yeah which is
1372. 53:38the amount of calories that I need to
1373. 53:39consume in order to hit my that's right
1374. 53:42so we all have a set point if you're
1375. 53:43going to go down the calorie path you H
1376. 53:47you have to understand you have a set
1377. 53:48point and the set point is there's a mo
1378. 53:50how much calories coming in and how much
1379. 53:52calories going out what's the Delta of
1380. 53:55that and that will keep you at whatever
1381. 53:57weight you want to be so let's use an
  1382. 53:59example you eat 1,500 calories a day you
  1383. 54:03exercise 500 you have a Delta of a
1384. 54:05thousand so if you want to keep your
1385. 54:08weight where it's at you always have to
  1386. 54:10do a th000 calories every single day
1387. 54:13yeah okay well what happens on the day
1388. 54:15you decide not to work out so now you
  1389. 54:17have 500 extra calories that your body's
1390. 54:19not used to and so what does it do with
1391. 54:21those calories stores it so then you all
  1392. 54:25of a sudden start you're gaining weight
1393. 54:27and you don't really understand why so
1394. 54:28you're like well let me count I need to
1395. 54:29restrict calories yeah so then you start
1396. 54:32eating maybe I mean I have less yeah and
1397. 54:35then you bring the set point down well
1398. 54:37that's your new that's your new set
1399. 54:38point you're going to have to stay at
1400. 54:40that set point now if you don't ever
  1401. 54:41want to gain another
1402. 54:44pound you see the game oh okay so my set
1403. 54:47point is moving the crafty it moves
1404. 54:49because as you restrict and you if as
1405. 54:52food restriction goes down and energy
1406. 54:54output goes up your set point goes down
1407. 54:57and now you're like I feel great but you
1408. 54:59can't leave from that set point you're
1409. 55:01going to always have to make sure that
  1410. 55:02that set point is 1,000 calories or 800
1411. 55:05calories so I was told I mean this is
1412. 55:07the school of thought that I have to
1413. 55:09have for me as a male that has my weight
  1414. 55:122,000 calories a day and then if I'm
  1415. 55:15under 2,000 calories a day then I'll
  1416. 55:16lose weight that's what I was told yeah
1417. 55:19so you go now you go to 1500 calories
1418. 55:21you drop weight yeah to lose the weight
1419. 55:23yep you go back up to 2,000 and for most
1420. 55:26people they start to gain weight again
1421. 55:28ah because my my set point has moved so
  1422. 55:30now it's 1,500 yeah to maintain my
1423. 55:33weight yeah which is why if you think
1424. 55:35about it have we have we ever seen a
1425. 55:37calorie restriction diet work long term
  1426. 55:40no right I haven't longterm being the
1427. 55:43key word there yeah it's short term it
1428. 55:46it works great but this is why I'm such
1429. 55:48a fan of metabolic switching how about
1430. 55:50we watch blood sugar we put a monitor
  1431. 55:52like you're talking let's put a monitor
1432. 55:53on so that you keep your blood sugar
  1433. 55:55spikes minimal it's like what I did with
1434. 55:57this woman is I was like let's can we
1435. 55:59have two two spikes in a day not eight
1436. 56:02and we just keep your blood sugar at a
  1437. 56:04at a at a low level so that when you're
1438. 56:06not eating you can switch over and now
1439. 56:08you can burn fat in the fat burning
1440. 56:10Energy System so metabolic switching is
1441. 56:14where you're keeping your blood sugar at
1442. 56:15a stable place it's not got all these
1443. 56:18Spikes all over the place so that when
1444. 56:20it starts to go down the body is going
1445. 56:21to want to switch over and it can start
1446. 56:23to burn fat in the in and use that other
1447. 56:25energy system what do you think our
  1448. 56:28relationship should be with
  1449. 56:31sugar well you know there's only 12% of
  1450. 56:34Americans that are metabolically
1451. 56:37healthy is that means that they have the
1452. 56:41right blood pressure the right
  1453. 56:43cholesterol that their hemoglobin A1c
1454. 56:46their insulin all those metabolic
1455. 56:48markers are in Balance only
1456. 56:5112% of Americans have that
1457. 56:54right that is a huge problem and that is
  1458. 56:58largely because we're addicted to
1459. 57:00Sugar so what's the consequence of poor
1460. 57:03metabolic health obesity cancer heart
  1461. 57:07disease mental health challenges I mean
1462. 57:09you name it every chronic disease on the
1463. 57:12planet at the root has a metabolic
  1464. 57:16thread now I hate to to bring back a a a
1465. 57:20a really traumatic concept uh topic but
1466. 57:24during covid when we looked at the
1467. 57:27people that fell prey to covid this is
1468. 57:30no no disrespect they were metabolically
1469. 57:35unhealthy and the people that had less
1470. 57:37covid symptoms were the ones that were
1471. 57:40more metabolically healthy in general so
1472. 57:43and largely because the virus could grow
1473. 57:46could really replicate if you had a lot
1474. 57:48of glucose in your system so the
1475. 57:51consequence is huge and the health care
1476. 57:54Consequence the amount of money we pay
1477. 57:55trying to help everybody put their
  1478. 57:57health back together because they're
1479. 57:58metabolically unhealthy if we just
1480. 58:01started with metabolic Health we would
1481. 58:02change everything and metabolic Health
1482. 58:04people think of metabolic Health often
1483. 58:06as being you know I'm in good
  1484. 58:11superficial
  1485. 58:12shape I'd like to think um but that's
1486. 58:15not metabolic Health you could be I'm
1487. 58:17guessing you can be metabolically
1488. 58:19unhealthy but also have abs oh oh yeah
1489. 58:23you could this woman I was telling you
1490. 58:25about with all the the spikes she was
  1491. 58:27she's actually a a model and an actress
1492. 58:30oh wow that that is beautiful and we had
1493. 58:33to go back in and really work with
1494. 58:35getting her metabolically healthy so
1495. 58:37yeah you we call it skinny fat you look
1496. 58:40you look skinny on the outside but
1497. 58:42you're dealing with excess sugar on the
1498. 58:45inside that is putting fat around your
1499. 58:47liver putting fat in other areas I think
1500. 58:50a lot of people can relate to that
  1501. 58:51skinny fat concept yeah so it's it's a
1502. 58:54major major issue and and you know we
1503. 58:56can look at different things like
  1504. 58:58hemoglobin A1c it's a marker in the
1505. 59:01blood everybody gets it tested every
1506. 59:03year when they go to their doctor it
1507. 59:04should be under five if it's not under
1508. 59:07five what's happening is all that extra
1509. 59:09sugar is is going around your red blood
1510. 59:12cells and your red blood cells carry
1511. 59:14oxygen to your body so they're gummed up
1512. 59:16with sugar so they can't deliver things
1513. 59:18oxygen to the brain to your eyes to your
  1514. 59:21muscle so you're not getting oxygenated
1515. 59:23because of the sugar just gumming up
  1516. 59:25these blood
1517. 59:27cells in chapter one of your book you
1518. 59:30talk about this um metabolic Health
1519. 59:32crisis in great detail you share some
  1520. 59:33stats which I pulled out which I I
  1521. 59:36thought were terrifying it's page page
1522. 59:37four of your book you say according to
1523. 59:40the CDC 41% of women and TW 21 and older
1524. 59:44are obese 45% have high blood pressure
1525. 59:48out of two one out of two will develop
1526. 59:50cancer in their lifetimes one out of
1527. 59:52five will develop Alzheimer's one out of
1528. 59:54nine will get typed two diabetes one out
1529. 59:57of eight will develop a thyroid problem
  1530. 1:00:00and 80% of all autoimmune conditions
  1531. 1:00:04occur in
1532. 1:00:06women why is that that last one 80% of
1533. 1:00:09all autoimmune conditions occur in women
  1534. 1:00:12yeah so autoimmunity is a really
1535. 1:00:14interesting one um and um if you look at
1536. 1:00:18what an autoimmune condition is it's the
  1537. 1:00:20body attacking
1538. 1:00:22itself and so when we look at where to
1539. 1:00:26go we're back of the toxins Hashimoto
1540. 1:00:28why is the body attacking the thyroid
1541. 1:00:30there's something there that needs to
1542. 1:00:32get out so it's usually a toxic issue so
  1543. 1:00:35the body's attacking the the thyroid
1544. 1:00:37when we look at ra and Joints there's
1545. 1:00:39toxins in there body's attacking that so
1546. 1:00:42it's happening more to women largely
1547. 1:00:45because well this is this this could go
1548. 1:00:48dark real fast but largely because we
1549. 1:00:51have so many influences that are
1550. 1:00:54affecting our our horm hormones so the
1551. 1:00:56best way I can explain this is something
1552. 1:00:58I call the hormonal hierarchy where our
1553. 1:01:01sex hormones are going to be completely
1554. 1:01:04thrown off by insulin so when you get
1555. 1:01:07insulin resistant your sex hormones are
1556. 1:01:09off and insulin is going to be so
  1557. 1:01:13impacted by cortisol so when you're
1558. 1:01:15stressed all the time you're going to be
  1559. 1:01:16insulin resistant and when you're
  1560. 1:01:18insulin insulin resistant you're going
1561. 1:01:20to have trouble balancing estrogen
1562. 1:01:21progesterone and testosterone but at the
1563. 1:01:24top of the hierarchy is oxy toin and
  1564. 1:01:27oxytocin is that we're getting oxytocin
1565. 1:01:30right now just from connecting with each
1566. 1:01:32other and it'll calm start to calm
1567. 1:01:34cortisol down and then when it calms
1568. 1:01:36cortisol down you can be more insulin
1569. 1:01:37sensitive and when you can be more
1570. 1:01:38insulin sensitive now your sex hormones
1571. 1:01:40can can balance better so we need that
1572. 1:01:43hierarchy as as women to be in balance
1573. 1:01:46in order for our bodies to be in Balance
1574. 1:01:50but what do we have women doing right
1575. 1:01:51now we have poor diet lots of stress uh
1576. 1:01:55and our our sex hormones are way off
1577. 1:01:58which sugar and sugar you're going after
1578. 1:02:00the sugar yeah so women are are are
1579. 1:02:04perishing within this modern world more
  1580. 1:02:07than
1581. 1:02:08men so we've got to help a woman bring
1582. 1:02:11back more insulin sensitiv sensitivity
1583. 1:02:14we got to get her doing better uh Stress
1584. 1:02:16Management and when we do that now the
1585. 1:02:19immune system can regulate now the
1586. 1:02:21immune system can calm down and stop
1587. 1:02:23being so hyperactive attacking all the
1588. 1:02:25toxins that are in the body so it's very
1589. 1:02:28complex does that imply that women and
  1590. 1:02:30men have a different relationship with
1591. 1:02:31stress oh yeah yeah yeah for sure we're
  1592. 1:02:36not I okay so I'm gonna I'm gonna be as
1593. 1:02:39bold as to say this and I know all my my
1594. 1:02:42feminist women out there are not going
  1595. 1:02:44to like this and I I was raised by a
  1596. 1:02:47strong woman I am a strong woman I've
1597. 1:02:49raised another strong woman and I have
1598. 1:02:52to tell you that we are not meant to
1599. 1:02:54handle the stress loads as well as men
  1600. 1:02:57and that's largely because of two
1601. 1:03:00hormones so estrogen makes us very out
1602. 1:03:03outward makes us very much an extrovert
1603. 1:03:06and we can handle a lot of stress when
1604. 1:03:08when estrogen is present in our body but
  1605. 1:03:12progesterone she can't handle stress at
1606. 1:03:14all so progesterone will start to
  1607. 1:03:18diminish a as cortisol goes up I always
1608. 1:03:20say when when cortisol goes High
  1609. 1:03:22progesterone becomes shy so now we're I
1610. 1:03:26the number of women since fast like a
1611. 1:03:28girl came out that I have heard from the
1612. 1:03:3020 and 30 year olds that have no cycle
  1613. 1:03:34none that is because they're insulin
  1614. 1:03:36resistant they're more stressed
1615. 1:03:38progesterone's not making her appearance
1616. 1:03:40so there's no shed of the uterine lining
1617. 1:03:42that is absolutely a stress issue and
  1618. 1:03:45not having a period for a woman is a
  1619. 1:03:47major problem because that's how we
1620. 1:03:49detox that's how we get these hormones
1621. 1:03:51out of us so if you're not having a
1622. 1:03:53cycle you're not getting rid of estrogen
1623. 1:03:55you're not getting rid of so many toxins
  1624. 1:03:57and it's just staying inside of
  1625. 1:03:59you that's that's a major
1626. 1:04:06problem controversial idea but it rings
1627. 1:04:09true for a lot of people yeah and I know
1628. 1:04:11this because I've had women very close
1629. 1:04:13to me in my life talk to me about this
  1630. 1:04:15exact thing and
1631. 1:04:17um specifically not having their
  1632. 1:04:20menstrual cycle and
1633. 1:04:22then focusing on the stresses in their
1634. 1:04:25life and then comes back the menstrual
1635. 1:04:27cycle coming back um people very very
  1636. 1:04:29close to me in fact that I've I've
1637. 1:04:32struggled with because of this exact
  1638. 1:04:34challenge
1639. 1:04:35yeah it is a controversial idea though
  1640. 1:04:38isn't it it's a it's slightly
1641. 1:04:40problematic um as an idea is there any
1642. 1:04:44scientific basis for that idea well we
1643. 1:04:47know based off science that when
1644. 1:04:49cortisol goes up progesterone goes down
1645. 1:04:51cortisol is the stress hormone yeah so
  1646. 1:04:53when you're under stress cortisol goes
  1647. 1:04:55up
  1648. 1:04:56and so if you're let's say it's the week
  1649. 1:04:58before your period That's when you're
1650. 1:04:59supposed to have the most amount of
  1651. 1:05:01progesterone if it doesn't matter if
  1652. 1:05:03you're trying to run a marathon doesn't
1653. 1:05:04matter if you have a work deadline
1654. 1:05:06doesn't matter if you're skiing on sleep
1655. 1:05:08as long as cortisol is going up
1656. 1:05:10progesterone is not going to make her
1657. 1:05:11appearance and if she doesn't make her
  1658. 1:05:12appearance then the uterine lining won't
  1659. 1:05:14shed that's that's been proven over and
1660. 1:05:17over every hormone expert would agree
  1661. 1:05:19multiple studies but women don't realize
1662. 1:05:22that so we if there's ever a time to
1663. 1:05:26mind your stress it's the week before
1664. 1:05:28your period which is why you don't fast
1665. 1:05:30the week before your period because
  1666. 1:05:31that's a that's a bit of a stressor it's
  1667. 1:05:34why you shouldn't train for you know a
1668. 1:05:36big Spartan Race or a crossfitting event
1669. 1:05:39or a run a marathon you should be doing
1670. 1:05:41more yoga and Recovery the week before
1671. 1:05:43your period this is why we should
1672. 1:05:46prioritize sleep the week before our
  1673. 1:05:47periods because that we don't want
1674. 1:05:49cortisol up so in a in an interesting
1675. 1:05:52world this is sort of the vision I have
  1676. 1:05:54for women right now
1677. 1:05:56is what if there is this moment where
1678. 1:05:58the week before our period we have the
1679. 1:06:02the capability of maybe not working as
  1680. 1:06:04hard they're like Spain they're giving a
  1681. 1:06:06three-day menstrual leave to
1682. 1:06:09women they with no questions asked
1683. 1:06:12before before the period or well it's no
1684. 1:06:15questions asked they anticipated it that
1685. 1:06:17women would use it the first three days
1686. 1:06:19of her period but a woman can use it any
1687. 1:06:22time I say use it the three days before
1688. 1:06:24your cycle is supposed to come
1689. 1:06:28interesting Have you shared this idea
  1690. 1:06:31before publicly uh I've on several
  1691. 1:06:33podcasts I've talked about it I had a
1692. 1:06:35great interview with Kate northrip um on
1693. 1:06:38my podcast and she's an entrepreneur and
1694. 1:06:42she actually Maps her whole business
1695. 1:06:44cycle around her menstrual cycle and so
  1696. 1:06:47we had a beautiful conversation about
1697. 1:06:49this and she said that she doesn't do as
1698. 1:06:52many Zoom calls she tells her team that
1699. 1:06:54she's going to take get get off uh work
1700. 1:06:57a little bit earlier on those days she
1701. 1:06:59slows everything down her workload goes
1702. 1:07:01dramatically down and she said what
1703. 1:07:03ended up happening is that when her
1704. 1:07:05period started her productivity went up
1705. 1:07:08so see what when estrogen comes in on on
1706. 1:07:11starting day one day two of our
1707. 1:07:13menstrual cycles estrogen makes us
1708. 1:07:15really mentally clear makes us very
  1709. 1:07:18verbal estrogen's an incredible hormone
  1710. 1:07:20for
  1711. 1:07:21productivity but if you aren't minding
1712. 1:07:24that back half of your cycle and you're
  1713. 1:07:26not slowing down
1714. 1:07:28then then you're coming into your period
1715. 1:07:30and you're having you hear so many women
  1716. 1:07:31who are like I'm cramping I'm bleeding a
  1717. 1:07:34lot it's really painful that's because
1718. 1:07:36you didn't mind the back half of your
  1719. 1:07:38cycle and what's the sort of
1720. 1:07:39evolutionary basis for all of this why
1721. 1:07:41is the body doing this why is the body
1722. 1:07:44um not going to give us our periods I
  1723. 1:07:46mean listen I don't have a period but um
  1724. 1:07:48well I have a version of it right I'm
1725. 1:07:49sure men have some kind of you guys you
  1726. 1:07:51guys have a you work off a 24-hour cycle
1727. 1:07:54okay so every 15 minutes you get
1728. 1:07:56testosterone okay you know we joke about
1729. 1:07:59that right what do you say you J behind
  1730. 1:08:01our
1731. 1:08:02backs kind of what' you say the joke is
1732. 1:08:05like if you don't like what your
1733. 1:08:06husband's saying just ask him in 15
1734. 1:08:08minutes he might say something different
  1735. 1:08:09oh that's what you've been say oh just
1736. 1:08:11letting you in on what might be going on
1737. 1:08:13behind the scenes okay so what is the
1738. 1:08:17evolutionary basis for why why that is
1739. 1:08:21true so think about yeah let's go back
1740. 1:08:24to our Primal days so you know
1741. 1:08:27testosterone is meant to have you go out
  1742. 1:08:30and Hunt it's some very motivating it's
1743. 1:08:33you get it every 15 minutes so you know
1744. 1:08:35God this sounds as I'm saying it sounds
1745. 1:08:36so sexist but when we look at the body
1746. 1:08:39this is actually how we're built so you
1747. 1:08:42were your body was driven to go hunt and
1748. 1:08:46go find and Go Achieve that's the number
1749. 1:08:48one hormone that it works off of for the
1750. 1:08:52women what our we are meant to be more
1751. 1:08:55outgoing before ovulation okay why is
1752. 1:08:58that oh we need to connect we need to
1753. 1:09:02start to feel that that mental Clarity
1754. 1:09:05you know estrogen makes your hair really
1755. 1:09:07like full and your skin really glow and
1756. 1:09:10it starts to make us more beautiful all
1757. 1:09:12leading up to to ovulation once
1758. 1:09:15ovulation hits now we have estrogen at
1759. 1:09:17our Peak we have a little bit of
1760. 1:09:19testosterone and we have a little bit of
1761. 1:09:21progesterone okay well why is that
1762. 1:09:24because now we our libidos up we're
  1763. 1:09:26motivated to reproduce we're looking
1764. 1:09:29beautiful because we have so much
  1765. 1:09:31estrogen going through our body we're
1766. 1:09:33verbal we can connect and we have
1767. 1:09:35progesterone to keep us calm so we're
1768. 1:09:37supposed to reproduce when ovulation
1769. 1:09:40hits and then the back half technically
1770. 1:09:44we would be have a fertilized egg and we
  1771. 1:09:46would be winding
  1772. 1:09:48down and if we didn't get a fertilized
1773. 1:09:50egg then we're supposed to relax so we
1774. 1:09:52can go back and do the extroverted piece
1775. 1:09:54of our elves in the front half of our
1776. 1:09:57cycle so it's all based off of
1777. 1:09:59reproduction so I need some advice then
  1778. 1:10:02because I'm in a relationship and I want
1779. 1:10:03to understand I guess this goes both
1780. 1:10:05ways I want my girlfriend to understand
1781. 1:10:07how hormones are influencing my behavior
1782. 1:10:10and I want to know how hormones are
1783. 1:10:11influencing her behavior yeah what
1784. 1:10:13advice have you got for me well the
1785. 1:10:15first is do you know her
1786. 1:10:20cycle moving on we're going to talk
1787. 1:10:22about sugar again no no this is too good
  1788. 1:10:26so sugar it's really bad isn't it who's
1789. 1:10:28to blame no seriously tell me about your
1790. 1:10:32childhood know get to know her cycle I'm
1791. 1:10:35GNA give you I'm Gonna Give You gold now
1792. 1:10:38let me give you gold okay so day one of
  1793. 1:10:42her cycle day one to day 10 she's
1794. 1:10:44building estrogen first couple of days
1795. 1:10:45of her cycle just let her be like she
1796. 1:10:48you know that she's transitioning out of
1797. 1:10:50the back half of her cycle she might be
1798. 1:10:52having some heavier bleeding you know
1799. 1:10:54she's moving into that extroverted place
1800. 1:10:56so the first two days give her some
  1801. 1:10:58space now day three estrogen's starting
1802. 1:11:01to to build so you're going to notice
1803. 1:11:03she's more verbal she's going to be more
1804. 1:11:05present she might feel more outgoing
1805. 1:11:07she's going to feel like she wants to
1806. 1:11:08connect with you that's going to go all
1807. 1:11:11the way through ovulation like in the
1808. 1:11:14middle of ovulation which is about day
  1809. 1:11:1512 day 13 where all of a sudden
1810. 1:11:18estrogens at its peak if you have any
1811. 1:11:21conflict you want to resolve with her do
1812. 1:11:23it between like day two and day 12 of
1813. 1:11:26her cycle she's going to be so ready to
1814. 1:11:29handle any conflict with you between let
  1815. 1:11:32me write that
1816. 1:11:33down day day two and day 12 day two like
  1817. 1:11:36literally my battles I had a I had a dad
1818. 1:11:39come to me and tell me that he was
1819. 1:11:41struggling to understand his teenage
1820. 1:11:42daughter and I said well do you know her
  1821. 1:11:45cycle and he was like no I don't I said
1822. 1:11:48well you would never ever bring a
1823. 1:11:50conflict to her on day 18 or 19 of her
1824. 1:11:53cycle bring it to her on day 10 10 and
1825. 1:11:56now she's going to talk to you I'm going
1826. 1:11:58to say something which is really
  1827. 1:11:59embarrassing here I know nothing about
1828. 1:12:01menstrual cycles and no point in my life
1829. 1:12:04did anybody teach me about menstrual
1830. 1:12:06cycles the only Insight I have in my
1831. 1:12:08life to what a menstrual cycle is is
1832. 1:12:11overhearing my sister when I was younger
1833. 1:12:14talking about it yeah and when I say
  1834. 1:12:16overhearing I mean maybe a sentence and
1835. 1:12:18then maybe my girlfriend once in a while
1836. 1:12:20she'll say oh I'm coming into my cycle
  1837. 1:12:22or whatever she'll say I'm on my period
1838. 1:12:23that's for most men that's in fact the
1839. 1:12:25extent of the education we have about
  1840. 1:12:27the female
  1841. 1:12:28reproductive um menal menstrual cycles y
1842. 1:12:32so talk to me like I'm an idiot about
1843. 1:12:33the menstrual cycle yeah how long is it
1844. 1:12:37oh I love this and do you know that most
  1845. 1:12:39women don't know oh really so I mean
1846. 1:12:41most women are ignorant to their own
  1847. 1:12:42Cycles so it's 28 days anywhere from 28
  1848. 1:12:45days to 32 every woman has a different
1849. 1:12:47length okay and what day does the period
1850. 1:12:49come on day one so day one is the first
1851. 1:12:51day she bleeds okay then how long that
1852. 1:12:53lost for what seven days uh it
1853. 1:12:55everyone's different anywhere from three
1854. 1:12:57to seven days okay so day you said day
1855. 1:13:01between day two and 12 is when to pick
1856. 1:13:03my battles yes so day two you're going
1857. 1:13:05to start to see her being emerge a
1858. 1:13:07little more gregarious she may be a
1859. 1:13:09little more outgoing so I mean as she
1860. 1:13:12get closer to day 12 you want to go
1861. 1:13:14party with her you want to take her out
1862. 1:13:15make her feel good like that's the time
1863. 1:13:18to whine and dine her okay cool we'll
1864. 1:13:20put all the dates then and the fights
1865. 1:13:21and then after day 12 what am I doing
1866. 1:13:23then after day well okay so day 12 is
  1867. 1:13:27right when she's ovulating so you're GNA
1868. 1:13:29have to choose your battle there but
1869. 1:13:31ovulation occurs for most women between
  1870. 1:13:33day 10 and day 15 there's a small little
1871. 1:13:36five-day window there that's if this is
1872. 1:13:39a when once I figured this out I was
  1873. 1:13:41like why don't why don't men know this
  1874. 1:13:43um that's when she's going to be her
1875. 1:13:44libido is going to be the highest okay
1876. 1:13:46so we're having sex one day yes so if
1877. 1:13:48you want to have sex with her I'm just
1878. 1:13:49writing this down have sex with her
1879. 1:13:51around that time around that time if
1880. 1:13:53she's willing yeah she's going to be
1881. 1:13:54more motivated cuz she has testosterone
1882. 1:13:56she's going to feel more like it okay
1883. 1:13:58then after she finishes ovulating off
1884. 1:13:59day 15 yeah so then there's going to be
1885. 1:14:01a crash of hormones you might see a
1886. 1:14:02change in her personality she might feel
1887. 1:14:04a little low go stay in a
1888. 1:14:07hotel but you could ask you know like if
1889. 1:14:10she's having a bummer day like or a low
1890. 1:14:12day ask her do you know what day your
1891. 1:14:14cycle are you on be really nice be
1892. 1:14:16really nice really nice and then here's
1893. 1:14:18the gold here's gold this is so good
1894. 1:14:20you're going to have to report back to
1895. 1:14:21me how this works uh when around day 17
1896. 1:14:24or 18 Gest drones coming in this is
1897. 1:14:27where you got to give her foot rubs you
1898. 1:14:29got to be extra special and cater her
1899. 1:14:32like like she's the queen that she
1900. 1:14:33deserves to be okay so all my
  1901. 1:14:35compliments that's where I pull out the
1902. 1:14:37notepad but what you need to know is
1903. 1:14:39she's probably going to be like if
1904. 1:14:41you're like oh you look so beautiful
1905. 1:14:42today she might at that time be like no
  1906. 1:14:45I feel horrible I'm bloated I'm I don't
1907. 1:14:48feel beautiful but and I should disagree
1908. 1:14:50I should say no you no you you're no you
1909. 1:14:52don't you look amazing okay cool and you
1910. 1:14:54do that till she bleeds and you take
1911. 1:14:57amazing care of her in the back the week
1912. 1:14:58before her period and you will get kudos
1913. 1:15:00like you you can't even imagine and then
1914. 1:15:03start it all over again and then start
1915. 1:15:04it all over again got you yeah I mean
1916. 1:15:06just once you understand our patterns
1917. 1:15:09and then it also helps you understand
1918. 1:15:10that we're going to be more outgoing in
1919. 1:15:12the front half of our cycle we're going
1920. 1:15:13to be more introverted in the back half
1921. 1:15:15what about men you guys every 15 minutes
  1922. 1:15:19you you're pretty you're pretty black
  1923. 1:15:21and white really yeah you're pretty
  1924. 1:15:23straightforward
1925. 1:15:25so if she was asking you the same
1926. 1:15:26question about me would you say anything
1927. 1:15:27to her about my hormone Cycles at all
1928. 1:15:29you you just say what it it really
1929. 1:15:31depends on the issue at hand so if it's
1930. 1:15:34a a a mismatch of libido then the best
1931. 1:15:38time to have sex with a woman is during
1932. 1:15:41ovulation okay which because she has the
  1933. 1:15:42most amount of testosterone day 10 to 15
1934. 1:15:44of her CLE it would be really handy
1935. 1:15:46wouldn't it just to have a little
1936. 1:15:48menstrual cycle chart on the wall at
  1937. 1:15:50home I know that sounds a bit strange
  1938. 1:15:52but just so I know what's going on
  1939. 1:15:54inside bud I the first time I discovered
1940. 1:15:57this I started using an app called The
1941. 1:15:59Clue app yeah and it shows you in a
1942. 1:16:02circle it kind of shows a little cloud
1943. 1:16:03and then it shows you where PMs Clicks
1944. 1:16:05in and it actually has a button that you
1945. 1:16:08can share it with people in your life
1946. 1:16:11and I thought not only does my husband
1947. 1:16:13need this but my staff needs this they
1948. 1:16:15need to understand where I'm going and
1949. 1:16:18what if all the women on my on my team
1950. 1:16:19actually shared it with each other and
1951. 1:16:21we could see where each other was at in
1952. 1:16:24the menstrual cycle we would understand
1953. 1:16:26why a woman's moods can be so up and
1954. 1:16:28down it's really you know it because of
1955. 1:16:31these three hormones our moods are much
1956. 1:16:34more volatile than yours you guys are
  1957. 1:16:37pretty steady Edy we're a and this is
1958. 1:16:39general you know this is I hate to be
1959. 1:16:42sexist in this conversation but this is
1960. 1:16:44hormones and the way they work it's
1961. 1:16:47actually really helpful to know this
  1962. 1:16:49because without this Insight it's very
1963. 1:16:52easy to fall into the Trap of just
1964. 1:16:55assuming your partner is Moody or that
1965. 1:16:59they are they have like mood swings or
1966. 1:17:01that they're you know people say things
  1967. 1:17:03like they're too emotional or they're
1968. 1:17:05whatever it might be but with this I
1969. 1:17:07actually think it creates a ton of
  1970. 1:17:08empathy yeah that's certainly the
1971. 1:17:10reaction that I get from hearing that
  1972. 1:17:12there's a there's significant hormone
1973. 1:17:14fluctuations in my partner and they
1974. 1:17:15happen at certain periods it actually
1975. 1:17:17now would change my behavior the way
  1976. 1:17:20that I receive certain times where I
1977. 1:17:22come home or I'm I that my my my partner
  1978. 1:17:26is just different Y and it's almost it
  1979. 1:17:28catches me off guard sometimes I've
  1980. 1:17:29actually we've spoken a lot about this
  1981. 1:17:31and we're very open we're very much the
1982. 1:17:34same person in terms of our willingness
1983. 1:17:35to talk about everything um and very
1984. 1:17:38difficult things as well yeah and there
1985. 1:17:39will be times where um I come home or we
1986. 1:17:42go through a patch where just a week you
  1987. 1:17:44know things
  1988. 1:17:46are making her upset which wouldn't
1989. 1:17:49normally make her upset just tiny things
  1990. 1:17:50that I'm doing and I go I what that's it
1991. 1:17:55like yeah you know so see if you can
1992. 1:17:56track that to a certain part of her
1993. 1:17:58cycle oh I'm kidding so like the week
  1994. 1:18:00before our period we're pretty we're
1995. 1:18:03irritable and every time I say that men
1996. 1:18:05go well you said it I didn't say it well
  1997. 1:18:08but that's because progesterone we you
  1998. 1:18:09know we're meant to be more inner we're
1999. 1:18:11meant to sit on the couch we're also
2000. 1:18:13meant Believe It or Not glucose goes
2001. 1:18:15higher the week before our period so We
  2002. 1:18:17crave carbs there's a reason We crave
2003. 1:18:19carbs because we need to bring glucose
2004. 1:18:20up to be able to make progesterone so We
  2005. 1:18:24crave carbs we're irritable we don't
2006. 1:18:26want a lot of cortisol so generally
  2007. 1:18:28we're a little bit slower we don't want
2008. 1:18:30to you know we don't have the desire to
2009. 1:18:32push through stress and push through
  2010. 1:18:34exercise and so we're going to be we're
2011. 1:18:36a little we're different that week where
2012. 1:18:39so if you come up and you just put your
  2013. 1:18:40hand on our shoulder and you're like I
  2014. 1:18:43love you you're amazing I'm here if you
2015. 1:18:45need anything that's all you got to do
  2016. 1:18:48but if you're trying to resolve a big
2017. 1:18:50conflict or you're trying to come at us
2018. 1:18:53in in too aggressive of a way we will
2019. 1:18:55shut down the week before our
2020. 1:18:57periods so interesting whereas if you
2021. 1:19:00have something you want to resolve with
  2022. 1:19:01us make sure estrogen's there because
2023. 1:19:03estrogen makes us great great verbal our
2024. 1:19:06verbal skills are incredible when
2025. 1:19:08estrogen's around ask any menopausal
  2026. 1:19:10woman she'll tell you what it's like
2027. 1:19:11when she loses estrogen and I have to
2028. 1:19:14say this is because you know women have
2029. 1:19:17this incredible power to create life
  2030. 1:19:21yeah that us men don't have it's like
2031. 1:19:23women are super Heroes for being able to
2032. 1:19:26carry a baby for significant amounts of
2033. 1:19:29time and then give birth to this baby
2034. 1:19:30it's just the most magical thing that I
2035. 1:19:32can think of in existence and women have
2036. 1:19:34that superpower and with that comes the
  2037. 1:19:36cycle yeah so it's a wonderful thing
2038. 1:19:40it's beautiful and the in in the book I
2039. 1:19:44called it the manifestation phase
2040. 1:19:45ovulation because when all of those
2041. 1:19:48hormones come in we can manifest
  2042. 1:19:51anything we want but it's not just a
2043. 1:19:53baby this is a great time ovulation is
2044. 1:19:56an amazing time to start a new business
  2045. 1:19:58project interesting it's a great time
2046. 1:20:01like as an author like I'm going to
2047. 1:20:04write during those five days because my
2048. 1:20:05creativity is going to be at its peak so
2049. 1:20:09we're highly creative if you want to
2050. 1:20:11like you know talk about something about
2051. 1:20:14life and how to create something with us
2052. 1:20:15do it during ovulation your
2053. 1:20:18husband is behind that wall here in my
2054. 1:20:22home and does is he aware of your
2055. 1:20:25menstrual cycle he he is until I started
  2056. 1:20:27to lose it I'm 53 so I'm it's starting
2057. 1:20:30to go um but yeah we talk like this all
2058. 1:20:33the time and and the way I like to to I
2059. 1:20:36like to take ownership over my hormonal
2060. 1:20:39moods so I will say to him after a long
  2061. 1:20:43day of work I will say hey it's been a
  2062. 1:20:46testosterone driven day for me I don't
2063. 1:20:50feel like I have a lot of estrogen right
  2064. 1:20:52now I can't handle a lot of stress I'm
2065. 1:20:54going to need to just take some time to
2066. 1:20:56myself we literally talk like that we
2067. 1:21:01um losing the menstrual cycle we the
2068. 1:21:03first time I started as a young man that
2069. 1:21:05hasn't been exposed to that at any point
2070. 1:21:07in my sort of you know in the education
2071. 1:21:10system or other um the first time I
2072. 1:21:13started to understand what menopause was
2073. 1:21:15and premenopause and Par menopause all
2074. 1:21:17these things was from guests that have
2075. 1:21:18come here and it's such a big it was
2076. 1:21:21such a big light bulb moment for me
2077. 1:21:23because I have um women in my life that
2078. 1:21:25are going through that phase of life and
2079. 1:21:28I feel like they are so misunderstood in
2080. 1:21:30so many ways thank you and I love
2081. 1:21:33hearing about it now um because it's
2082. 1:21:35going to help me relate to those women
2083. 1:21:37in a better way and have and understand
  2084. 1:21:39how I can
2085. 1:21:40be a partner with them through that
2086. 1:21:43phase of life like you know certain
2087. 1:21:44members of my family that are going
2088. 1:21:46through that phase of Life what do what
2089. 1:21:48do we need to know as men but also as
2090. 1:21:50women about menopause per menopause and
2091. 1:21:53all those things thank you thank you for
  2092. 1:21:56asking I think that we're the most
2093. 1:21:58misunderstood um age group of women and
2094. 1:22:02with the 45 to 55 year old in that
2095. 1:22:05decade is the most common time for women
2096. 1:22:07to commit suicide really yeah this is
2097. 1:22:11why my next book I'm writing right now
2098. 1:22:12is on the mental health of menopausal
  2099. 1:22:14women because we're struggling and so
2100. 1:22:17the first thing you have to know is that
2101. 1:22:18after 40 our sex hormones start to
2102. 1:22:21decline so estrogen goes up and down so
2103. 1:22:25one day you're going to experience if
2104. 1:22:26you have if you live with a 43y old
  2105. 1:22:28woman you're going to experience she's
2106. 1:22:30great next day you're going to be like
2107. 1:22:32who are you that's because her estrogen
  2108. 1:22:34is on a roller coaster ride so that's
2109. 1:22:36the first thing to know second thing is
  2110. 1:22:39that progesterone is plummeting after 40
2111. 1:22:42they actually say now at 35 progesterone
2112. 1:22:44is starting to go down so as
2113. 1:22:47progesterone goes down we are less
2114. 1:22:49stress resilient so little things are
2115. 1:22:52going to irritate us like they've never
2116. 1:22:54irritated us before and you might be the
2117. 1:22:57recipient of that so if you find we're
  2118. 1:23:00very triggerable it's because we're
2119. 1:23:02losing progesterone so we need to we
2120. 1:23:05just need to have more breaks we need
2121. 1:23:07more nurturing like I explained in the
2122. 1:23:09menstrual cycle we need to have more
2123. 1:23:11love brought our way because we just
2124. 1:23:13can't handle stress the same way and
2125. 1:23:16then as as ultimately estrogen finally
  2126. 1:23:19goes into a place where she's
  2127. 1:23:21non-existent once a woman doesn't have
2128. 1:23:22her cycle we can't hold on to
2129. 1:23:25information the way the same way we used
2130. 1:23:27to be able to we forget things and it's
2131. 1:23:30really frustrating to us and so when
2132. 1:23:33people around us like I went through
2133. 1:23:35this with my team when I was trying to
2134. 1:23:37get my menopausal hormones in check they
2135. 1:23:40would say well you already told us that
2136. 1:23:42yes you reminded us of that and I
  2137. 1:23:44started finding I was repeating myself
  2138. 1:23:47and then I realized oh I'm at a new
2139. 1:23:49level of low of estrogen and then I
2140. 1:23:52worked you know getting a working with
2141. 1:23:53some bio identicals working with some
2142. 1:23:55lifestyle to bring my estrogen up but
  2143. 1:23:58from 40 till about
  2144. 1:24:0155 that is about a 10 to 15 year period
  2145. 1:24:04where the woman's brain has to
2146. 1:24:06recalibrate to these loss of hormones
2147. 1:24:09and so our moods are all over the place
2148. 1:24:12during that time so understanding where
2149. 1:24:16we're at having more compassion for us
2150. 1:24:18not taking us on um and just helping us
2151. 1:24:22understand ourselves which is largely
2152. 1:24:24what I'm trying to do through my books
2153. 1:24:26is will be so helpful but we don't even
2154. 1:24:30understand our own selves menopausal
  2155. 1:24:32moods are are treacherous it's an
  2156. 1:24:34extreme
2157. 1:24:36sport it literally is an extreme sport
2158. 1:24:39it's brutal what about off the 45 she
2159. 1:24:40said 40 to 45 yeah so once we actually
  2160. 1:24:43go a whole year without a period we
2161. 1:24:46actually do better so the brain is used
2162. 1:24:49to the less hormones so when we get on
  2163. 1:24:51the other side
2164. 1:24:53postmenopausal we actually are great uh
2165. 1:24:55we're women that once they go to that
2166. 1:24:59side of the hormonal process tend to
2167. 1:25:02actually be you know we have so much
2168. 1:25:04wisdom I'd like to think um we actually
2169. 1:25:07tend to be the opposite of everything I
2170. 1:25:09just said we tend to be more stress uh
2171. 1:25:13we can handle stress better we tend to
2172. 1:25:14be more gregarious our libido goes back
2173. 1:25:16up our as our brain starts to
  2174. 1:25:19recalibrate we become a better version
2175. 1:25:21of ourselves and it's that first phase
  2176. 1:25:23that 40 to 45 phase what's that phase
2177. 1:25:25called is that the that's per menopause
2178. 1:25:27per menopause and then menopause is
2179. 1:25:29beyond 45 yeah the average age for
2180. 1:25:31menopause right now is about 52 although
2181. 1:25:34a lot of women are going in around 45
  2182. 1:25:37sometimes
2183. 1:25:38earlier okay but but I think that if
2184. 1:25:41there was one thing I want want I could
2185. 1:25:44help the world understand is that we're
2186. 1:25:47trying to understand ourselves during
2187. 1:25:49that time so be patient with us because
2188. 1:25:53we may not we may react much different
  2189. 1:25:55than you've ever seen us react
2190. 1:25:57before so we have to get to know
  2191. 1:26:00ourselves from a new lens that's the
2192. 1:26:03gift that menopause actually gives us
2193. 1:26:05and if you allow us to do that when we
2194. 1:26:07make it through to the postmenopausal
  2195. 1:26:09years you're going to have a beautiful
2196. 1:26:12wise wonderful woman on the other side
2197. 1:26:14of that it's just that transition into
  2198. 1:26:17per menopause is really a a treacherous
  2199. 1:26:21one it's so interesting it's so I find
2200. 1:26:23it agreeing that no one told me this at
2201. 1:26:26any point in my life agreed um because
2202. 1:26:29irrespective of whether you are a woman
2203. 1:26:31or not and you're going to go through
  2204. 1:26:33that you're going to um your
2205. 1:26:35relationships with women are going to be
2206. 1:26:37integral to your life unavoidably your
2207. 1:26:39mother your grandmother your partner so
2208. 1:26:42having the Insight gives me the empathy
2209. 1:26:45I love it you know and that's what
2210. 1:26:47that's why I'm so fortunate from having
2211. 1:26:48this conversation it was Gabby Logan who
2212. 1:26:50came on this podcast de mcco who wrote a
2213. 1:26:52book about menopause in the end and knew
2214. 1:26:53that I've really helped to open my eyes
  2215. 1:26:55about that and um it's interesting I
  2216. 1:26:58just I don't know what it is I think
2217. 1:26:59growing up like men just don't want to
2218. 1:27:01talk about periods and menstrual cycles
2219. 1:27:03and all of these kinds of things they're
2220. 1:27:04almost Taboo in a weird way I call it in
  2221. 1:27:07the new book I'm writing I'm calling it
2222. 1:27:09the cultural hush yeah I think we have a
2223. 1:27:12cultural hush around the menstrual cycle
  2224. 1:27:14around menopause I can't tell you the
2225. 1:27:16number of men since fast like a girl
2226. 1:27:18that has come out that read that book
2227. 1:27:21and they go to the chapter on women and
2228. 1:27:24hormones and then they come and find me
2229. 1:27:26and say I finally understand my wife
  2230. 1:27:28yeah I finally understand my daughter
2231. 1:27:31well why aren't we talking about that
2232. 1:27:32and then how many women we don't we
2233. 1:27:34don't talk about like the fact that I'm
  2234. 1:27:36I'm suffering because I don't have as
2235. 1:27:38much estro estrogen it it would we don't
  2236. 1:27:41have a culture or a society that allows
2237. 1:27:43us to talk like that and that's what I
2238. 1:27:46think is is Shifting right now so many
2239. 1:27:48menopause books are coming out big
2240. 1:27:50people you know Oprah is starting to do
2241. 1:27:52a whole thing on menopause like the
  2242. 1:27:54conversation's opening up but it's going
2243. 1:27:56to take bravery from women to step up I
  2244. 1:27:59mean I'm a very very capable woman who
  2245. 1:28:01has a beautiful family and a great
2246. 1:28:03business it's really hard for me to say
2247. 1:28:07I can't do one more zoom call my brain
2248. 1:28:10can't do it that feels like
2249. 1:28:12failure and then we have the other side
2250. 1:28:15of this which is we have the men that
  2251. 1:28:17are like why are you being a [ __ ] today
  2252. 1:28:20it's like because I don't have the
  2253. 1:28:21hormone to stop me from being a [ __ ]
2254. 1:28:23today so those those kind of
2255. 1:28:26conversations are not hand happening but
2256. 1:28:28if we did it with more empathy if we
2257. 1:28:29could express ourself like hey I just
2258. 1:28:31need to I need a break right now is just
2259. 1:28:33a lot on my hormones give me 30 minutes
2260. 1:28:36give me an hour I can come back and be a
2261. 1:28:38better version I just need to take care
2262. 1:28:39of myself now someone's going to be
2263. 1:28:41listening to this and they're going to
  2264. 1:28:42think H it's not a problem you can just
2265. 1:28:44go get the hormones you can just go get
  2266. 1:28:46some
2267. 1:28:48HRT it's called HRT right HRT yeah you
2268. 1:28:51can go get some HRT throw that at the
  2269. 1:28:53problem then you'll have your hormones
2270. 1:28:55back yeah so this is this is the big
2271. 1:28:59thing is that just because you take a
  2272. 1:29:01hormone doesn't mean your cells are
2273. 1:29:02going to use it so if you take let's use
2274. 1:29:06let's use uh thyroids a perfect example
2275. 1:29:09because so many women specifically take
  2276. 1:29:11thyroid medication and they don't see
2277. 1:29:13any any any change in their thyroid
  2278. 1:29:16symptoms it's called an exogenous
2279. 1:29:18hormone you bring it into your body the
2280. 1:29:21body registers that it's there the gut
2281. 1:29:23and the have to still break that hormone
2282. 1:29:26down into a usable form so if your gut
2283. 1:29:29is off or your liver is overloaded
2284. 1:29:31you're not going to break that hormone
2285. 1:29:32down once that hormone's broken down the
2286. 1:29:35cell has to be able to receive it if
2287. 1:29:37that cell is inflamed with a lot of
2288. 1:29:40toxic oils and endocrine disruptors
2289. 1:29:42there's no way to get the hormone into
2290. 1:29:44the cell so there are three very pivotal
2291. 1:29:47pieces you got to there has to be
2292. 1:29:50production of the hormone there has to
2293. 1:29:52be breaking down of the hormone and
2294. 1:29:53there has to be receiving of the hormone
2295. 1:29:55so when you take HRT you're only
2296. 1:29:57handling one of those things you still
2297. 1:29:59and lifestyle this is why I'm such a so
2298. 1:30:01passionate about lifestyle lifestyle can
2299. 1:30:03handle the other two they can take care
2300. 1:30:05of the gut and the liver they can open
2301. 1:30:08up the cell so it can receive HRT I I've
  2302. 1:30:11been uh I wrote a book called The
2303. 1:30:12menopause reset and it'll come out in
2304. 1:30:15we're reissuing it in uh June and one of
2305. 1:30:18the things in there is I I mapped out
2306. 1:30:20five lifestyle changes that women should
2307. 1:30:22do after 40 and in that book I lived
  2308. 1:30:26that I did that through my whole 40s I
2309. 1:30:28didn't start doing bioidenticals till
2310. 1:30:30like 52 but I had my lifestyle dialed in
2311. 1:30:33first and now bioidenticals are working
2312. 1:30:36well people are sat there going five
2313. 1:30:39Lifestyle Changes they want to know what
  2314. 1:30:42they are they're gonna they're going to
  2315. 1:30:43buy the book as well aren't we we're
2316. 1:30:45gonna buy the book and we're going to
2317. 1:30:46find out right now yes okay well what do
2318. 1:30:49you think the first one is fasting yes
2319. 1:30:52there you go the first one's fasting
2320. 1:30:54uh so and and actually fast like a girl
2321. 1:30:57came after the menopause reset because
2322. 1:30:59all the women asked me well what if I
2323. 1:31:02have a site you know what if I'm in my
  2324. 1:31:0430s what if I'm in my 20s how should I
2325. 1:31:05fast so that's you know that was sort of
2326. 1:31:07the birth of that book so fasting second
2327. 1:31:10one is you have to learn to cycle your
2328. 1:31:12food so you ketogenic diet works really
2329. 1:31:15well at certain times cycle your food
2330. 1:31:18cycle your food Styles what does that
2331. 1:31:20mean so if in the front half if you have
2332. 1:31:24a menstrual cycle yeah in the front half
2333. 1:31:26when estrogen's coming in go keto keep
2334. 1:31:28carbs low keep glucose low you're great
2335. 1:31:32back half of your cycle when
2336. 1:31:33progesterone's coming in raise glucose
  2337. 1:31:36so don't go keto but do Nature's carbs
2338. 1:31:39do more fruits do more squashes potatoes
2339. 1:31:42that's going to help with building
2340. 1:31:44progesterone so the per menopausal woman
2341. 1:31:47has to learn that there's times to bring
2342. 1:31:50carbs down and there's times to bring
  2343. 1:31:51carbs up and that's what I explain in
2344. 1:31:53that I called it keto variations in that
2345. 1:31:55book so that's step two step three
2346. 1:31:59microbiome you got to pay attention to
2347. 1:32:01your microbiome too many women have been
2348. 1:32:02on birth control for decades they go
2349. 1:32:04screaming into their per menopausal
2350. 1:32:06years and their microbiomes and is
2351. 1:32:08completely off we have a whole set of
2352. 1:32:10bacteria in our gut called the
2353. 1:32:12estrobolome which is the bacteria that
2354. 1:32:14break estrogen down so you need to be
2355. 1:32:17eating more leafy green vegetables more
2356. 1:32:19nuts and seeds olives chocolate even is
2357. 1:32:22great for the microbiome so I list all
2358. 1:32:24those Foods out in there and then number
2359. 1:32:27go ahead and that's for stage two of the
2360. 1:32:29three steps to act these hormone
2361. 1:32:32replacement therapy is actually working
2362. 1:32:33which is being able to metabolize the
2363. 1:32:35hormone break it down yes you got it
2364. 1:32:37okay step four you got it you're going
2365. 1:32:39to be a hormone expert after this well
2366. 1:32:40you know not just a pretty face yeah so
2367. 1:32:43then the fourth one is watch your toxic
2368. 1:32:44load so we talked about that and then
2369. 1:32:47step five is my favorite um and it's
  2370. 1:32:50stop being a rushing woman yeah I know
  2371. 1:32:53as I tell you from a rushing
2372. 1:32:56lifestyle we need more as we go through
2373. 1:32:58per menopause we need more more downtime
2374. 1:33:02you got to schedule more downtime you
2375. 1:33:03need to let that nervous system come
2376. 1:33:05down you can't go through your par
2377. 1:33:08menopausal years and Thrive if you are
2378. 1:33:11go go go all the time it will catch up
2379. 1:33:13with you and so you've got to bring in
2380. 1:33:15more mindfulness more meditation more
2381. 1:33:18yoga more more vacations more nose
2382. 1:33:22that's got to be a part of your
2383. 1:33:23repertoire you might have gotten away
2384. 1:33:25with it at 35 but you won't get away
  2385. 1:33:26with it at
2386. 1:33:2945 I was thinking then as you speaking I
2387. 1:33:31was thinking about how I kind of
2388. 1:33:33summarize all of these points into how
2389. 1:33:36we should be living Our Lives as men and
  2390. 1:33:37women because obviously we've got
  2391. 1:33:39dragged into a consumerist
2392. 1:33:42workaholic sugar overloaded toxin ridden
  2393. 1:33:46life because of because we've been
2394. 1:33:48unconscious yeah you know so we that's
2395. 1:33:50the way that cor corporations
2396. 1:33:54and media narrative and social media
2397. 1:33:56algorithms have taken us so I was
2398. 1:33:58thinking if we could just pause for a
2399. 1:33:59second and we could rewrite the
2400. 1:34:01blueprint of what it is to be a human
  2401. 1:34:03and how to
2402. 1:34:05live let's try and rewrite that so how
  2403. 1:34:08would I work as a man and a woman what
2404. 1:34:11would be the the differences how many
2405. 1:34:12days a week what if you if you were in
2406. 1:34:15charge now of rewriting that which you
2407. 1:34:17might be one day I'd like to be you'd
2408. 1:34:19like to be okay so you're taking on the
2409. 1:34:21responsibility so how would men and
2410. 1:34:22women work and and you mean from a
  2411. 1:34:25business yeah like a professional
  2412. 1:34:26standpoint okay well let's start with a
2413. 1:34:28man yeah so well both men and women we
2414. 1:34:31have two nervous systems one that speeds
2415. 1:34:33us up one that relax that slows us down
2416. 1:34:37so you could be in a speed up mode most
2417. 1:34:40of the time I would say you just need to
  2418. 1:34:43make sure I mean it really actually I
2419. 1:34:45just thought about this right now the
2420. 1:34:47the patriarchal Work Week works really
2421. 1:34:50well for men Monday through F Friday
2422. 1:34:53work your fanny off Saturday and Sunday
  2423. 1:34:55take it off now you're you're moving in
2424. 1:34:58and out of your parasympathetic and
  2425. 1:35:01sympathetic nervous system and you're
2426. 1:35:03giving both of them a break you are not
  2427. 1:35:05meant to be working 247 seven days a
2428. 1:35:08week you know like you're not meant to
2429. 1:35:09be working all the time and and never
2430. 1:35:11taking a break what would you make the
  2431. 1:35:13work hours for a man well I'm I'm a big
2432. 1:35:16fan of working in the daylight and
  2433. 1:35:18resting we're supposed to rest when it's
2434. 1:35:20dark okay so winter you would work less
2435. 1:35:22summer you would work more
2436. 1:35:24okay we do the opposite right we take
2437. 1:35:26more vacation in the summer women so
2438. 1:35:29women we would design our whole work
2439. 1:35:32week around our menstrual cycle so we
2440. 1:35:35could go Full Tilt all the way till day
2441. 1:35:3819 day 20 and then we would we would
2442. 1:35:41take a week off and we would bow out so
2443. 1:35:45instead of doing it in a weekly amount
2444. 1:35:47like you guys would be doing we'd be
2445. 1:35:48doing it in a monthly amount and how
2446. 1:35:49long would you bow out for well ideally
2447. 1:35:52it depends on each woman's going to be a
  2448. 1:35:54little different but I would say
2449. 1:35:56anywhere from I want to say seven days
2450. 1:35:59if it worked for a schedule until you
2451. 1:36:01bleed so day 20 till you know if you're
2452. 1:36:05if day 21 till day 28 you would do it
2453. 1:36:08for a week bowing out might also look
2454. 1:36:11like I just am not going to take on the
2455. 1:36:15the high load that I normally do the
2456. 1:36:17rest of the month maybe I'll cut it in
2457. 1:36:18half mhm maybe work from home or yeah
  2458. 1:36:22yeah maybe I work from home maybe I
2459. 1:36:24can't do my workload and my extreme
2460. 1:36:26exercise and go socialize with my
2461. 1:36:28friends during that week I just need to
2462. 1:36:30start to slow everything down so that's
2463. 1:36:33what I I want to say about bowing out is
  2464. 1:36:35that it's just you're putting yourself
  2465. 1:36:38first and you're slowing everything down
2466. 1:36:41now eating men and women eating yeah so
2467. 1:36:45men um I think as far as food I agree
2468. 1:36:48with just keeping blood sugar stable is
2469. 1:36:50great I think you guys really work well
2470. 1:36:52off of a meat based an animal uh diet I
2471. 1:36:55don't think you have more you have more
2472. 1:36:57testosterone which means you have more
2473. 1:36:58muscle we the way that we build muscle
2474. 1:37:01and keep muscle strong is through amino
2475. 1:37:03acids and you get that in meat so for
2476. 1:37:06men I feel like that Primal diet the
2477. 1:37:09paleo diet was meat and vegetables and
  2478. 1:37:11fruit is amazing I think that's that's
  2479. 1:37:14perfect I don't think refined flowers
2480. 1:37:16and sugars um that we get are exposed to
2481. 1:37:20I think that over in an overabundance
2482. 1:37:22they'll hurt men too and we're seeing
2483. 1:37:24that with metabolic syndrome women we do
2484. 1:37:27well with Meats I you know um I think we
2485. 1:37:30need less of it because we have less
2486. 1:37:33testosterone so we may need less of it
2487. 1:37:35although it is important protein is
2488. 1:37:37important especially as we age so I
2489. 1:37:39don't want to lose sight on that um but
2490. 1:37:41we also need to bring glucose up so we
2491. 1:37:43need more fruits we're going to need
2492. 1:37:45more squashes we're going to need more
2493. 1:37:46potatoes and that's you know all built
2494. 1:37:48around your menstrual cycle so eating
  2495. 1:37:52times uh I'm I'm not a fan of eating
2496. 1:37:55when it's dark out because when me
2497. 1:37:56melatonin goes up insulin you become
  2498. 1:37:59more insulin resistant so I'm a fan of
2499. 1:38:02which means what it means you so your
2500. 1:38:05your body won't process the glucose from
2501. 1:38:07that meal as efficiently when it's dark
2502. 1:38:09out it won't take it away and store it
2503. 1:38:11or it needs to be stor as energy exactly
2504. 1:38:13it will store it as fat or something or
2505. 1:38:14uh yeah it's going to store it as fat if
  2506. 1:38:16it can't if insulin can't drive it into
2507. 1:38:17the cell for energy it'll stored as fat
2508. 1:38:19so the meal you eat at 9:30 is going to
2509. 1:38:22be stored more as fat than if you have
  2510. 1:38:24that same meal at
  2511. 1:38:275:30 I know so night eers aren't doing
2512. 1:38:30themselves any favors no so we go back
2513. 1:38:33to our Primal friends right like let's
2514. 1:38:35go back and use that if if if people get
2515. 1:38:37lost in these theories so they didn't
2516. 1:38:40have electricity they sat around the
2517. 1:38:42fire so most likely they ate during
2518. 1:38:45light hours and then the women what did
2519. 1:38:48the women do if we go back and look at
2520. 1:38:50at cultures around our period we were
2521. 1:38:53actually that's the whole Red Tent ideas
2522. 1:38:55we were SE sequestered off into another
2523. 1:38:58part of the of the tribe we didn't have
2524. 1:39:01to do as many chores we went more into
2525. 1:39:03an introverted place if you go back and
2526. 1:39:05you study what we did in those days it
2527. 1:39:07was very much along those lines and
2528. 1:39:10we're just not doing that now what about
2529. 1:39:12supplements what supplements would you
  2530. 1:39:14have men and women
2531. 1:39:16consuming uh well for women the most
2532. 1:39:20important supplement she could ever take
2533. 1:39:21is magnesium magnesium makes every
2534. 1:39:25single hormone in your body for men I
2535. 1:39:28would say the most important supplement
2536. 1:39:30I mean there's a lot of them um but for
2537. 1:39:32hormones zinc because zinc makes
2538. 1:39:35testosterone outside of that for both
2539. 1:39:37men and women the other supplement and
2540. 1:39:39the other measurement that we all need
2541. 1:39:41to be looking at are vitamin D levels
2542. 1:39:43yeah I've learned this from guest on
  2543. 1:39:45this podcast I've started taking Vitamin
2544. 1:39:46D supplements yeah if your vitamin D is
  2545. 1:39:49under 30 you are in a a critically uh
2546. 1:39:53depressed immune State uh so you got to
2547. 1:39:56get it definitely over 30 for hormonal
2548. 1:39:59Health we need to see it more up in
  2549. 1:40:00about 60 70 to have your hormones be
2550. 1:40:03working at their best so this this goes
2551. 1:40:06back to like the HRT thing if all if
2552. 1:40:08we're taking HRT but our vitamin D is 20
2553. 1:40:12that HRT isn't going to be as effective
2554. 1:40:14as as compared to the woman who has an
  2555. 1:40:16HRT of like 55 or 60 or a vitamin D of
2556. 1:40:2055 or 60 that HRT will work better
2557. 1:40:24interesting and and vitamin D comes from
  2558. 1:40:26sunlight doesn't it sunlight and uh
  2559. 1:40:30sardines sardines it's the food sources
2560. 1:40:33are really bad this is why everybody's
2561. 1:40:34low in it the food sources are it's
  2562. 1:40:37sardines it's like really fatty fishes
2563. 1:40:40um and sunlight and we spend most of our
  2564. 1:40:42time indoors that's right we can't get
2565. 1:40:44it from this kind of light right no no
2566. 1:40:46and you have to be outside with your
2567. 1:40:49like skin exposed at the high point of
  2568. 1:40:51the day of the sun like 12 12
2569. 1:40:541:00 to get the most vitamin D and if
  2570. 1:40:58you're in air a city where there's more
2571. 1:40:59air pollution study has shown that that
2572. 1:41:01you're not going to the Rays that come
2573. 1:41:03in that turn you uh that will hit your
2574. 1:41:05skin and turn it into Vitamin D are less
2575. 1:41:07because air pollution blocks it which is
2576. 1:41:10why so many people are low in vitamin D
2577. 1:41:12which is why taking vitamin D is a smart
2578. 1:41:14thing is that why people are doing these
2579. 1:41:16like infrared saas and stuff now does
2580. 1:41:18that produce vitamin D or is that
  2581. 1:41:19something else that's more detox oh
2582. 1:41:21detox it's pushing infrared it what it
2583. 1:41:24does is it uh simulates a fever so it
2584. 1:41:28burns things out from the inside of the
2585. 1:41:30cell out which is why it's a really good
2586. 1:41:32detoxer there was a few things you said
2587. 1:41:34when I was watching some of your YouTube
  2588. 1:41:35videos that I wrote down that I found
2589. 1:41:36really compelling one of them was you
2590. 1:41:37said about the importance of opening up
2591. 1:41:40our our detox Pathways and you just
2592. 1:41:43mentioned detoxing there what do you
2593. 1:41:44mean by opening up our detox Pathways
2594. 1:41:47yeah so if you look at our lymph system
2595. 1:41:50each the lymph is is like you know
2596. 1:41:52people know lymph nodes because when you
2597. 1:41:54get sick you can feel them Ms you get
2598. 1:41:56yeah yeah so the lymph is always
2599. 1:41:58carrying toxins out of organs so Li the
2600. 1:42:01liver has a lymph pathway the gut has
2601. 1:42:03lymph nodes in there that are going to
2602. 1:42:05pull all the toxins that are in there
2603. 1:42:07and move them out of you so we need to
2604. 1:42:10keep these lymph Pathways open so the
2605. 1:42:13gut the gut's a great one you should be
2606. 1:42:15having a bowel movement every single day
  2607. 1:42:17if you're not having a bowel movement
2608. 1:42:18every single day then the what's what
2609. 1:42:21the body's trying to get rid of stain
2610. 1:42:23inside of you and it gets congested um a
2611. 1:42:27thing we teach women about the armpit
2612. 1:42:29and and actually would work for men too
2613. 1:42:31is that you're you should have a pit not
2614. 1:42:33a puff what do that mean if it's a puff
2615. 1:42:36like look in the mirror and if your
  2616. 1:42:37armpit is a puff then that's stagnant
2617. 1:42:40lymph it means that you're not pulling
2618. 1:42:42the the toxins for women that are coming
2619. 1:42:44out of her breast are not getting out
2620. 1:42:46toxins that are coming out from the head
2621. 1:42:48down into the uh into the thoracic area
  2622. 1:42:50is not getting out because it's
2623. 1:42:52congested so your underarm is Puffy and
2624. 1:42:55not like a pit yeah then you might be
  2625. 1:42:58storing some of those toxins that's
  2626. 1:43:00right and they're not moving they're not
  2627. 1:43:01mobilizing why aren't they am I blocking
2628. 1:43:04my Pathways yeah the pathways blocked so
2629. 1:43:07with what well there's the question you
2630. 1:43:10with I feel like people are going to
2631. 1:43:11leave this podcast to be so depressed
2632. 1:43:13because there's so many pieces of this
2633. 1:43:15but uh deodorant deodorant clogs that up
2634. 1:43:19and so it doesn't mobilize all of the
2635. 1:43:21toxins out this was a big big thing with
2636. 1:43:23breast cancer is a lot of women using
  2637. 1:43:25toxic deodorants they weren't getting
2638. 1:43:26the toxins out of the breast and it was
2639. 1:43:28clogging in the armpit because of the
  2640. 1:43:30toxins from the
2641. 1:43:31deodorant that explains why we sweat in
  2642. 1:43:34that area right yeah because it's a
2643. 1:43:36pathway why do we even have hair in that
  2644. 1:43:38area I don't know you tell me it's a
  2645. 1:43:40detox it's for detoxing it's to help get
2646. 1:43:43those toxins out oh so the molecules go
2647. 1:43:45down the hair yeah yeah and what do
2648. 1:43:48women do shave it off that's right so
  2649. 1:43:51you're saying
  2650. 1:43:53I I I shave I I'm I just because I don't
2651. 1:43:57I can't walk it's just not in my in my
  2652. 1:44:00nature but I you know what I do is I
2653. 1:44:02have a loofah in my shower and I just
2654. 1:44:04loofah under my arms at whenever I
2655. 1:44:06shower to open up those Pathways what's
  2656. 1:44:08a lofa it's like a little organic sponge
2657. 1:44:11ah okay it scrubs it yeah scrubs it we
2658. 1:44:13also have pubic hair we also have pubic
2659. 1:44:15hair we are getting toxins out from the
2660. 1:44:18ovaries the ovaries are the major area
2661. 1:44:20for and testes this is where hormones
2662. 1:44:22are being produced and so as they're
2663. 1:44:25coming out they are supposed to
2664. 1:44:27influence our everything biologically we
2665. 1:44:29need them to influence but then they're
2666. 1:44:31also supposed to get out of our system
2667. 1:44:34and so the hair ends up becoming like
2668. 1:44:36this way that we can mobilize the toxins
2669. 1:44:38out of us I never want I never knew or
2670. 1:44:41asked why I grow hair under my arms and
2671. 1:44:45in the pubic region no one ever told me
2672. 1:44:48about that no one ever I never
2673. 1:44:50questioned it I thought it was slightly
2674. 1:44:53inconvenience yes well it is for sure
2675. 1:44:56but the body doesn't do anything to
2676. 1:44:57inconvenience you it does it to increase
2677. 1:44:59your chances of survival because I'm the
2678. 1:45:01byproduct of millions of years of
2679. 1:45:05survival of the fittest and evolution
2680. 1:45:06that has made me pruned a sculpted to
2681. 1:45:11survive it's funny because we spend so
2682. 1:45:13much of our time and this goes back to
2683. 1:45:14the conversation around sugar we spend
2684. 1:45:16and just weight loss and all these
2685. 1:45:18things we live in a world where we think
2686. 1:45:19that our body is against us right it's
  2687. 1:45:21fighting us it's it's making me go for
2688. 1:45:23the sugar drawer it's stopping me losing
  2689. 1:45:25weight it's growing all these pubes
2690. 1:45:29right inconvenient yeah yeah yeah yeah
2691. 1:45:31and then we fight it we shave it off and
2692. 1:45:33we you know do all these crazy things to
2693. 1:45:35fight against our body but our body is
  2694. 1:45:37very much it's it's
2695. 1:45:39actually it's actually for us and many
2696. 1:45:42of the things we're choosing to do are
2697. 1:45:43against us we are against ourselves not
2698. 1:45:45our bodies our bodies cannot put her
2699. 1:45:48foot wrong you got it I mean you got it
2700. 1:45:51it's this is what I'm trying to bring
2701. 1:45:53back is this this respect for what the
  2702. 1:45:57body's trying to do that's what we're
  2703. 1:45:59missing we we it's all
  2704. 1:46:02inconvenient and it's everything from
2705. 1:46:05like even like weight gain like why is
2706. 1:46:08your body gaining weight because it's so
2707. 1:46:10brilliant that it decided not to put
2708. 1:46:13that fat around your organs it put it
2709. 1:46:14around your belly and now you're looking
2710. 1:46:16in the mirror and you're villainizing it
2711. 1:46:17but your body was trying to save your
2712. 1:46:19life in that moment like everything the
2713. 1:46:23body is always doing for you not against
  2714. 1:46:26you but we
  2715. 1:46:28continually discredit what it's trying
2716. 1:46:30to do and manipulate it which is why the
2717. 1:46:33best thing I can think of is that we're
  2718. 1:46:34just in an evolutionary
2719. 1:46:36mismatch we're just at the modern world
2720. 1:46:39does not line up with the human body's
2721. 1:46:43design quick one as you guys know we're
2722. 1:46:46lucky enough to have blue jeans by
2723. 1:46:47Verizon as a sponsor of this podcast and
2724. 1:46:49for anyone that doesn't know blue jeans
2725. 1:46:51is an online video conferencing tool
2726. 1:46:52that allows you to have slick fast high
2727. 1:46:55quality online meetings without all the
2728. 1:46:57glitches you might normally find with

2749. 1:47:35get on my girlfriend came upstairs
  2750. 1:47:37yesterday when I was having a shower and
2751. 1:47:38she said to me that she tried the hu
2752. 1:47:40protein shake which lives on my fridge
2753. 1:47:41over there and she said it's amazing low
2754. 1:47:43calories you get your 20 odd grams of
2755. 1:47:46protein you get your 26 vitamins and
  2756. 1:47:47minerals and it's nutritionally complete
2757. 1:47:49in the protein space there's lots of
2758. 1:47:50things but it's hard to find something
2759. 1:47:52that is nice especially when consumed
2760. 1:47:54just with water and that is
2761. 1:47:56nutritionally complete and that has
2762. 1:47:59about 100 calories in total while also
2763. 1:48:01giving you your 20 grams of protein if
  2764. 1:48:04you haven't tried the heal protein
2765. 1:48:06product do give it a try The Salted
2766. 1:48:08Caramel one if you put some ice cubes in
2767. 1:48:10it and you put it in a blender and you
2768. 1:48:13try it is as good as pretty much any
2769. 1:48:16milkshake on the market just mixed with
  2770. 1:48:18water it's been a game Cher for me
2771. 1:48:20because I'm trying to drop my calorie
  2772. 1:48:21intake and I'm trying to be a little
2773. 1:48:22more healthy with my diet so this is
2774. 1:48:25where heel fits in my life thank you H
  2775. 1:48:26for making a product that I actually
2776. 1:48:27like The Salted Caramel is my favorite
2777. 1:48:29I've got the banana one here which is
2778. 1:48:30the one my girlfriend likes but for me
2779. 1:48:32salted caramel is the one something
2780. 1:48:36really pissed me off this weekend I was
2781. 1:48:38walking through um New York City and I
2782. 1:48:41saw a poster and it is for inject weight
2783. 1:48:44loss injections yeah have you seen this
  2784. 1:48:47this no but OIC is a is a drug that's
  2785. 1:48:51really popular right now there's a
  2786. 1:48:53couple of drugs right now there's
2787. 1:48:54there's one my friends were talking
  2788. 1:48:56about it and we were like there's a
2789. 1:48:57diabetes drug I think and the headlines
2790. 1:48:59have been that so many people are taking
2791. 1:49:00this yeah diabetes drug to lose weight
2792. 1:49:02that people with diabetes are struggling
  2793. 1:49:05um there's another one called
2794. 1:49:08semaglutide yep yep this is this is
2795. 1:49:12people injecting things in their body to
2796. 1:49:15help them lose weight Y and the poster
2797. 1:49:17which my friend had sent me and i' I'd
2798. 1:49:19seen it earlier and then he' sent me the
2799. 1:49:20poster as well in our group chat says
2800. 1:49:22one shot a week lose weight and it has
2801. 1:49:24the little URL someone thankfully had
2802. 1:49:26actually ripped the URL off this
2803. 1:49:27billboard um what's your take on all
2804. 1:49:30this stuff yeah the the the new
2805. 1:49:32medications that are out there right now
  2806. 1:49:35are creating a weight loss uh
2807. 1:49:38possibility when we look at the scale
2808. 1:49:40and when we look at how people feel when
2809. 1:49:42they put on their clothes but it's at
  2810. 1:49:44the expense of muscle they're actually
2811. 1:49:46losing more muscle than they are losing
2812. 1:49:49fat so yes you feel thinner but it's not
2813. 1:49:53because you lost fat you lost muscle
2814. 1:49:56muscle is the organ of Longevity if you
2815. 1:49:59lose muscle as you age you are going to
2816. 1:50:02be in a bad situation I mean we need
2817. 1:50:04muscle to get out of a chair yeah you
2818. 1:50:06need muscle to perform daily life
  2819. 1:50:09functions the other thing people don't
2820. 1:50:10realize about muscle is in muscle or
2821. 1:50:12insulin re re uh receptors so if you
2822. 1:50:16lose muscle you don't have as many
  2823. 1:50:19insulin receptors which means you're now
  2824. 1:50:21putting yourself in a insulin resistant
2825. 1:50:23state which means you have to stay on
2826. 1:50:24the medication forever to be able to
2827. 1:50:26stay at the weight you want because you
2828. 1:50:29don't have the same insulin sensitivity
  2829. 1:50:32so again we're it's like the calorie in
  2830. 1:50:34calorie out short-term result long-term
  2831. 1:50:38consequence it's not it's risky it's
2832. 1:50:40risky and then you know every medication
  2833. 1:50:42has a side effect but I'm more concerned
2834. 1:50:45about the person who thinks they solved
2835. 1:50:46their weight loss issue and all they've
2836. 1:50:48done is made it worse down the
  2837. 1:50:51road I here with many a health expert
  2838. 1:50:53and a fitness expert and nutritional
2839. 1:50:55experts and they all agree with what you
2840. 1:50:57just said about muscle they all said to
  2841. 1:50:59me cuz I asked a question to I think it
2842. 1:51:01was Tim Spectre about might have been
2843. 1:51:03jles yo asked a question about do does
2844. 1:51:05our metabolism fall off a cliff as we
2845. 1:51:09age which is quite a popular thing and a
2846. 1:51:10few of them said the same thing to me
2847. 1:51:12they go it at a certain point further
2848. 1:51:14down the line metabolism does change but
2849. 1:51:16really the thing that changed is muscle
2850. 1:51:17mass and that means that we stop moving
2851. 1:51:20as much which means that we gain weight
2852. 1:51:21faster so he said the number one thing
2853. 1:51:24that you need to do as you age is keep
2854. 1:51:25doing resistance training keep your
  2855. 1:51:27muscle and because I was asking him a
  2856. 1:51:29question about my father I said I went
2857. 1:51:30down this really St steep cliff in
2858. 1:51:32barley a couple of weekends before and
2859. 1:51:34as I was going down those stairs I was
2860. 1:51:36thinking my dad couldn't do this anymore
2861. 1:51:37and at the bottom of those stairs was
2862. 1:51:39our activity for the day we were going
2863. 1:51:41white water rafting and as I was walking
  2864. 1:51:43down those stairs I was thinking I want
2865. 1:51:44to be my dad's age and be able to go
2866. 1:51:46down these stairs so I can do stuff with
2867. 1:51:47my kids um and getting into a place
  2868. 1:51:51where I'm a mobile
2869. 1:51:53at you know in my by 60 that is a choice
2870. 1:51:56that is an unavoid that is a for most of
2871. 1:51:58us that is a choice and it's one that we
2872. 1:51:59can avoid if we keep muscle and we keep
2873. 1:52:01therefore we'll keep fat and what youve
2874. 1:52:03said there from what I garnered from it
  2875. 1:52:05is I will actually if I take those
2876. 1:52:08chemicals and if I inject them into my
2877. 1:52:10body I'll lose my muscle mass and if I
2878. 1:52:11lose my muscle mass I will be I will
2879. 1:52:14have a higher chance of weight gain and
  2880. 1:52:16obesity when I'm
2881. 1:52:18older and the and your functionality
2882. 1:52:22yeah so the great the perfect example
2883. 1:52:24that I always stuck in my head is my dad
  2884. 1:52:26had a knee surgery and he's 86 years old
2885. 1:52:30and I remember trying to help him get
2886. 1:52:32around a chair that he was sitting in
2887. 1:52:34and he was starting to lose his upper
  2888. 1:52:36body strength and he literally couldn't
2889. 1:52:38push himself up and out of the chair to
2890. 1:52:40be able to move into a comfortable
  2891. 1:52:42position and I thought oh my gosh that's
2892. 1:52:44where muscle is so important at 86 years
2893. 1:52:47old is just being able to get up and out
  2894. 1:52:49of a chair after after recovering from a
  2895. 1:52:51surgery
2896. 1:52:53but if you think about the functionality
2897. 1:52:55of a human as we age if you want to be
2898. 1:52:57able to not do as many activities like
2899. 1:53:00you're talking about just make sure you
2900. 1:53:01don't have as much muscle like the
2901. 1:53:03minute muscle goes away your
2902. 1:53:05functionality goes away but more
2903. 1:53:06importantly the minute muscle goes away
  2904. 1:53:08you're more insulin resistant so you're
2905. 1:53:11going to gain weight more Down The Long
2906. 1:53:13Haul a lot of other people would say you
2907. 1:53:15know the way to lose weight is just to
2908. 1:53:16do lots of cardio run a lot yeah good
  2909. 1:53:22idea
  2910. 1:53:23no no so here's another interesting
2911. 1:53:26thing and I'm going to give it through a
  2912. 1:53:27women's perspective because we're let's
2913. 1:53:29go back to women over 40 so cortisol
2914. 1:53:32goes up with extra cardio uh calorie set
2915. 1:53:36point goes you know you're more calorie
  2916. 1:53:39output so remember that's also happening
  2917. 1:53:41and you're changing your set point so I
2918. 1:53:43need more calories my calorie set point
2919. 1:53:46goes up and my cortisol levels go up y
2920. 1:53:49okay okay so what ends up happening
2921. 1:53:53is that you actually now are tanking all
2922. 1:53:55your other hormones so let's follow the
2923. 1:53:58trail of progesterone cortisol goes up
  2924. 1:54:00because you're you're doing so much
2925. 1:54:01cardio so progesterone goes down because
2926. 1:54:05Carol goes up progesterone goes down
2927. 1:54:07well progesterone keeps estrogen in
2928. 1:54:09check so now estrogen can go up and if
2929. 1:54:13you have too much estrogen eventually
2930. 1:54:15what's going to happen is it's going to
2931. 1:54:16be stored as fat so that extra hormone
  2932. 1:54:19will so long term that's not a great
2933. 1:54:21plan for women for women for men uh well
2934. 1:54:24so then the second piece applies to both
2935. 1:54:26men and women is if you're doing a lot
  2936. 1:54:29of cardio most likely you're breaking
2937. 1:54:32down muscle to be able to perform that
2938. 1:54:34cardio and a great example is look at a
  2939. 1:54:36marathon runner versus a tennis player
2940. 1:54:39you know or a soccer player like even
2941. 1:54:41though soccer players are doing a lot of
  2942. 1:54:42cardio it's a lot of start stop start
  2943. 1:54:44stop but a marathon one Runner who's
2944. 1:54:46done so much cardio is breaking muscle
2945. 1:54:48down to be able to do that amount of
  2946. 1:54:51cardio so
2947. 1:54:53it's okay to do just not at the expense
2948. 1:54:55of muscle and for a women you can't do
2949. 1:54:57it at the expense of
  2950. 1:54:59progesterone
2951. 1:55:00so it won't help me to lose weight doing
2952. 1:55:04cardio no you know what's going to help
2953. 1:55:05you to lose weight is more weightlifting
2954. 1:55:08build more muscles you have more insulin
2955. 1:55:10receptor sites fast more so you can get
2956. 1:55:14rid of all of the glucose that gets
2957. 1:55:15stored in muscles break your fast with
  2958. 1:55:18protein and yeah I mean that's what we
2959. 1:55:21saw we see all all the time in both my
2960. 1:55:23clinic and my online world is those
2961. 1:55:25three things will get you in the shape
2962. 1:55:28that you want it might not remember as
2963. 1:55:30you build muscle you're not going to
2964. 1:55:31lose the the the number on the scale
2965. 1:55:34might be that much different you know it
2966. 1:55:37might it might not move but your whole
2967. 1:55:39shape is going to change you're going to
2968. 1:55:41look different so is any level of cardio
2969. 1:55:45good for weight loss would you recommend
2970. 1:55:48that just for the the broader health
  2971. 1:55:49benefits I you know I think cardio is
  2972. 1:55:51more of a mental health Improvement
2973. 1:55:54improve you know you get all those
2974. 1:55:55endorphins it's so good for your mental
  2975. 1:55:57health I love to go running it's my
2976. 1:55:59favorite thing but I do it for my mental
  2977. 1:56:01health not to lose
2978. 1:56:03weight another thing that I saw online
2979. 1:56:05which was very curious that you said is
2980. 1:56:06you were talking about how to undo the
2981. 1:56:09oxidative damage from eating too much
2982. 1:56:11sugar yeah what do you mean by that so
2983. 1:56:14think about think about the cell as an
2984. 1:56:15ecosystem right and so inside the cell
2985. 1:56:18there has to be a balance of all the
2986. 1:56:21right components so when glucose goes up
2987. 1:56:24which happens when you eat too much
2988. 1:56:25sugar that balance goes off and one of
2989. 1:56:28the byproducts of that is that your body
2990. 1:56:30puts off these free radicals it creates
2991. 1:56:32more oxidative damage within the cell
2992. 1:56:35the more of that oxidative damage the
  2993. 1:56:37more it's going to destroy mitochondria
2994. 1:56:39and the and the nucleus and all the
2995. 1:56:41cellular parts so what you're doing when
  2996. 1:56:44you're fasting is you're reestablishing
  2997. 1:56:47balance into the cell and you're
2998. 1:56:49allowing to your body to naturally un do
2999. 1:56:52the oxidative damage that happened from
3000. 1:56:55poor living got you so it's like a reset
  3001. 1:56:57on it's like a cellular reset people say
  3002. 1:57:00that there's been a school of thought
3003. 1:57:02that fasting breaks down muscle that
3004. 1:57:03I'll lose muscle if I fast true or false
3005. 1:57:06so it appears to break down muscle you
3006. 1:57:09it depends on how long you're in a fast
3007. 1:57:11but it will appear as if your muscle is
  3008. 1:57:13shrinking because it's getting rid of
3009. 1:57:15the stored sugar but when you now bring
3010. 1:57:18in a high protein meal and feed it amino
3011. 1:57:21acids it will grow stronger you'll see
3012. 1:57:23more definition because it it broke the
3013. 1:57:26sugar down which you don't want in
3014. 1:57:28there so it changes the the shape of the
3015. 1:57:31muscle makes it more lean I guess it
3016. 1:57:34makes it more lean but if you follow
3017. 1:57:36that up with good eating you're going to
3018. 1:57:38make yourself stronger now the person
3019. 1:57:40who decides to go into a fast breaks
3020. 1:57:43down muscle and doesn't follow up with
3021. 1:57:46good eating yeah you're going to end up
3022. 1:57:48with less muscle but if you follow it up
3023. 1:57:50with a lot of protein and you build that
3024. 1:57:52Emptor back up now you're actually able
3025. 1:57:55to build your muscle even stronger
3026. 1:57:57there's two ways to build muscle one is
3027. 1:57:59through weights lifting weights strength
3028. 1:58:01training and the other is through food
3029. 1:58:04protein so all fasting is doing is
3030. 1:58:06leaning it out and does fasting have an
  3031. 1:58:09impact
  3032. 1:58:10on my
3033. 1:58:13sleep uh it it can in a couple ways um
  3034. 1:58:17sleep for starters if your brain's
3035. 1:58:19inflamed you're not going to sleep so
3036. 1:58:21fasting brings down inflammation so that
3037. 1:58:23would be the first thing um the other
3038. 1:58:25thing is that a lot of people wake up
  3039. 1:58:27especially women 2 3: in the morning and
3040. 1:58:29they kind of get the jolt out of out of
  3041. 1:58:30bed and a lot of times that's because
  3042. 1:58:33you've maybe had dinner at 7 o'clock
3043. 1:58:35glucose is going down and so the body
3044. 1:58:38registers that glucose has gone down and
3045. 1:58:40so it gives you a cortisol Spike and all
3046. 1:58:42of a sudden you wake up at 2 or 3 in the
3047. 1:58:44morning is that why some people wake up
  3048. 1:58:46at I've got a friend of mine that's um
3049. 1:58:48an elderly male and he always tells me
  3050. 1:58:51goes oh I woke up at 3: a.m. last night
  3051. 1:58:52and he's constantly saying it he's like
3052. 1:58:54I woke up in the middle of the night
3053. 1:58:55again last night yep and I've always
3054. 1:58:57wondered why and we when I'm with him we
3055. 1:58:59do eat dinner particularly late yeah
3056. 1:59:02yeah so he's probably getting so he has
3057. 1:59:04all that glucose he go he goes to sleep
3058. 1:59:07and now the glucose starts to go down
3059. 1:59:09and then there's going to be a point at
3060. 1:59:10which the body registers that it hits a
3061. 1:59:12new low and then it triggers it and and
3062. 1:59:14all of a sudden triggers uh cortisol and
3063. 1:59:16releases glucose from other body parts
3064. 1:59:18and the the body takes that as we're
3065. 1:59:20running from a tiger get up out bed ah
3066. 1:59:22so it wakes you up yeah and to avoid
3067. 1:59:24that what would you do you'd recommend
3068. 1:59:26not eating so late yeah not eating so
3069. 1:59:28late but the more you fast the more
3070. 1:59:30you're you stabilize that blood sugar
3071. 1:59:32and you don't have those highs and lows
  3072. 1:59:34as much it's it's a com it's a way of
3073. 1:59:37bringing balance back to the whole blood
3074. 1:59:39sugar system I have to say you know we
  3075. 1:59:41talk a lot about I mean we've talked
3076. 1:59:43extensively about fasting today and one
3077. 1:59:45of the concerns I have about talking
3078. 1:59:47about the subject matter is the
3079. 1:59:49implications it has for people with
  3080. 1:59:51eating disorders
3081. 1:59:52y um because it's quite easy to conflate
3082. 1:59:55messages if if you're not able to fully
3083. 2:00:00understand the context of everything and
  3084. 2:00:02I'm sure that's a topic you've you've
  3085. 2:00:04thought about I mean you I think you
3086. 2:00:05actually write about it in one of the
3087. 2:00:06the later chapters in your book in
  3088. 2:00:08chapter 10 yep
  3089. 2:00:11um it's a it's it's a common it's it's
3090. 2:00:14one that we thought a lot about when we
  3091. 2:00:17wrote the book so I I I want to say that
3092. 2:00:20first that um when the book was put
3093. 2:00:23together that was definitely something
3094. 2:00:25my agent the publisher everybody was
3095. 2:00:27really keen on how can we tread that
3096. 2:00:30lightly and here's my stance on it the
3097. 2:00:33first is that if you have a severe
  3098. 2:00:35eating disorder I'm going to recommend
3099. 2:00:37that if you want to learn to fast you
3100. 2:00:39need to bring your therapist into it you
3101. 2:00:41need to bring your doctor into it you
3102. 2:00:42need another set of eyes to help you
3103. 2:00:44navigate that so that would be the first
3104. 2:00:47thing that I would say um second thing
3105. 2:00:49I'm going to go back to this woman that
3106. 2:00:51I worked with who had severe eating
3107. 2:00:52disorders and and she's been um very
3108. 2:00:55very public about her eating disorders
  3109. 2:00:58and I didn't start with fasting I
3110. 2:01:00started with food with her so we started
3111. 2:01:02by stabilizing her blood sugar first and
3112. 2:01:05then once I saw that those spikes on her
  3113. 2:01:07glucose monitor were were in a place I
  3114. 2:01:10wanted were more steady then I
3115. 2:01:12introduced fasting because she was
3116. 2:01:14seeing food as a real healing tool and
3117. 2:01:17then I could put patch on fasting as a
3118. 2:01:20as an adjunct to it and she's doing
  3119. 2:01:22incredible incredible so you it's
  3120. 2:01:26there's just a different approach but I
3121. 2:01:27really encourage that you work with your
  3122. 2:01:30practitioner or your
  3123. 2:01:31therapist where do I start I'm sold you
3124. 2:01:35sold me on fasting I'm going to become a
3125. 2:01:38faster where do I start Mindy so the
3126. 2:01:42first place to start is you want to
3127. 2:01:43think about compressing your food into
3128. 2:01:45one eating window so let me start by
3129. 2:01:48asking you what time do you typically
  3130. 2:01:49finish eating dinner
3131. 2:01:52I told you this off camera and I told
3132. 2:01:53you not to mention it sorry sorry okay
  3133. 2:01:57on a on a good
3134. 2:01:59day on an Ideal day so my my issue is um
3135. 2:02:03I'm going to be honest because that's
3136. 2:02:04the point of this podcast um the issue I
3137. 2:02:06have is I wake up in the morning I then
  3138. 2:02:10Begin work and I'll get I'll eat my
3139. 2:02:12first meal this is quite shocking in
  3140. 2:02:14fact I'll eat my first meal
  3141. 2:02:16around I'm going to say between 2:00
  3142. 2:02:20p.m. and
3143. 2:02:23400 p.m. depending on how busy my
  3144. 2:02:24schedule is sometimes there's been days
  3145. 2:02:26I remember one particular day it's
3146. 2:02:27actually when I found out that I do this
3147. 2:02:29I took someone with me for the day they
3148. 2:02:30were shado me for the day and it got to
  3149. 2:02:327: p.m. and they go we haven't eaten
  3150. 2:02:34today oh wow and I didn't notice I had
3151. 2:02:36no idea that I hadn't eaten that day so
3152. 2:02:37I'm a very late eater but then the issue
3153. 2:02:40is I will go to the gym usually in the
3154. 2:02:43evening usually after work often between
  3155. 2:02:45900 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. and then when I
3156. 2:02:47get home from the gym oh no this is I go
3157. 2:02:51to sleep like a good boy no I this is
3158. 2:02:53where you go WR this is it yeah this is
3159. 2:02:55where it goes downhill then I'll eat
3160. 2:02:57then I'll eat something um pretty late
3161. 2:03:00at night and that could be midnight so
3162. 2:03:05you're so what I heard in that is your
  3163. 2:03:07eating window is 2 to 12 2 to 12 yeah so
  3164. 2:03:11that you're in a you're in a 10hour
3165. 2:03:12eating window yeah so in in if you in
3166. 2:03:16the morning are you doing coffee yeah
3167. 2:03:18yeah I do now mainly because of this
3168. 2:03:20podcast but okay yeah but you're not
3169. 2:03:22eating anything else in the morning no
3170. 2:03:25not really no on on no I don't eat
3171. 2:03:28breakfast there's no days in my life
3172. 2:03:30where I eat breakfast really um the
3173. 2:03:32earliest I might eat is midday okay so
3174. 2:03:36if you choose to make two your time that
3175. 2:03:39you I call it opening up your eating
3176. 2:03:41window you're going to start eating so
  3177. 2:03:42you would go 2 to 12 that's 10 hour
  3178. 2:03:44eating window it's not and we'll we'll
3179. 2:03:46work on your window here in a moment
  3180. 2:03:48that that's leaving 14 hours of fasting
  3181. 2:03:50um about 15 18 hours you're going to
3182. 2:03:52start to get the testosterone increase
  3183. 2:03:54so I would say let's can we make it a
3184. 2:03:57nine or an even an eight hour eating
3185. 2:03:59window especially because you told me
3186. 2:04:00your goals and and your fitness goals I
3187. 2:04:03would think for you an eight- hour
3188. 2:04:04eating window would be great so you have
3189. 2:04:06an option you can either not eat when
3190. 2:04:08you get home from the gym and now we're
3191. 2:04:10at I'm just so hungry right or you could
3192. 2:04:13push it back to three before or four you
3193. 2:04:16said sometimes where you don't where you
3194. 2:04:17don't eat what would be
3195. 2:04:20ideal um well for you definitely just
3196. 2:04:23don't want to eat when it's dark out so
3197. 2:04:26ideal would be an8 hour eating window
3198. 2:04:30finishing right now at summer so
3199. 2:04:32finishing at 9: and then you would work
3200. 2:04:36back yeah so you would do like 1 to
  3201. 2:04:399 or 12 to 8 or 12 to 8 yeah or 11 till
  3202. 2:04:437: right it's not going to happen I'll
3203. 2:04:45do I'll do the uh the one till 9 that
3204. 2:04:47you said yeah cuz I go to the gym often
3205. 2:04:49quite late in the UK so that means I can
  3206. 2:04:51after the gym and then here's here's a
3207. 2:04:53little hack is that and and I want to
3208. 2:04:56make sure that people don't lose sight
3209. 2:04:58what I just did with you is customize it
  3210. 2:05:00to your lifestyle and I think that's
3211. 2:05:02really important you just take that
3212. 2:05:03eating window and you figure out what's
3213. 2:05:05the best where it fits for you um I I do
3214. 2:05:08this with people who have families they
3215. 2:05:10want to sit down and eat dinner so don't
3216. 2:05:11skip dinner with your kids like sit and
3217. 2:05:13enjoy that you sound like that that from
3218. 2:05:16a fitness and work level that's working
  3219. 2:05:19for you so let's let's let's keep it
3220. 2:05:21like that let's not move that around too
3221. 2:05:24much but for your fitness goals one day
3222. 2:05:26a week I'd like to see you elongate your
3223. 2:05:29fast push your fast like could you go 20
  3224. 2:05:31hours 24 hours of fasting where you're
3225. 2:05:33just having one meal a day because what
3226. 2:05:36you're going to do is you're going to
3227. 2:05:37put your body into a little bit of a
3228. 2:05:39state of stress where it all the things
3229. 2:05:41we've talked about are going to start to
3230. 2:05:42the healing is going to happen at a much
  3231. 2:05:45quicker R you're saying once in a while
  3232. 2:05:47yes I once a week for you once a week so
3233. 2:05:50once a week go like 24 hours not eating
3234. 2:05:53that's right or what we call it one meal
3235. 2:05:54a day wow okay anything else I need to
  3236. 2:05:58know to get
3237. 2:06:00started um I mean coffee can be your
3238. 2:06:02friend um uh putting MCT oil in it can
3239. 2:06:06help you get ketones a little bit
3240. 2:06:07quicker um so I don't know if you ever
3241. 2:06:10put oil in your coffee but I have MCT
3242. 2:06:12oil on my counter at home because I did
3243. 2:06:14the keto diet yeah so just put it in
3244. 2:06:15your coffee it'll switch you over and
3245. 2:06:17it'll get those ketones going a little
3246. 2:06:19quicker um there is something I wrote
3247. 2:06:21about in the book called a fasted snack
3248. 2:06:23and the fasted snack is pure fat bomb um
  3249. 2:06:26they're hard to find I'll it's a fat
3250. 2:06:28bomb so it's it has no carbs very little
3251. 2:06:31protein it's all fat so an example of
3252. 2:06:34one might be an avocado is pretty fat
3253. 2:06:37dense it has it does have some carbs uh
  3254. 2:06:40but the one I love it's something called
3255. 2:06:42a keto cup and it's MCT oil with cacao
3256. 2:06:46butter and some chocolate just pure
3257. 2:06:47chocolate around wrapped around it it
  3258. 2:06:49looks like a little rees's peanut butter
3259. 2:06:50cups and I you can do those in your
  3260. 2:06:53fasting window and they'll keep they
  3261. 2:06:55they won't switch you over because
3262. 2:06:56they're pure fat oh so fasted snacks can
3263. 2:07:00be really helpful the research shows
3264. 2:07:02that you get all the benefits of fasting
  3265. 2:07:04but you're popping these little keto
3266. 2:07:05cups in your mouth all day long what is
  3267. 2:07:07the most important thing we haven't
  3268. 2:07:08talked about in your
  3269. 2:07:11[Music]
  3270. 2:07:14view I you know I think the most
3271. 2:07:16important thing is for people to realize
  3272. 2:07:19that there's not the perfect path
3273. 2:07:22there's just your path so take all
3274. 2:07:26everything we talked about and find the
3275. 2:07:29threads that resonate with you and put
3276. 2:07:32those into action and then maybe you
3277. 2:07:33come back and listen to the podcast
3278. 2:07:35again and you take another thread but we
3279. 2:07:37have to stop trying to do our diet like
  3280. 2:07:39everybody else around us there's your
  3281. 2:07:42diet and that's really what I'm trying
3282. 2:07:44to get is that people build a lifestyle
3283. 2:07:46that's unique to them n of one be your
  3284. 2:07:49own n of n of one if it's really the
  3285. 2:07:52most beautiful place to
3286. 2:07:53live n of one yeah you know they say in
3287. 2:07:57a in a study they always say like the N
3288. 2:08:00is how many people were in the study and
  3289. 2:08:02so they'll say like n of a hundred n of
3290. 2:08:04a thousand so n of one is one person was
3291. 2:08:07in the study be your own study be your
3292. 2:08:09own be your own study your own
  3293. 2:08:10experiment yeah we have a closing
3294. 2:08:13tradition on this podcast where the last
3295. 2:08:15guest asks a question for the next guest
3296. 2:08:17and the question that's been left in the
3297. 2:08:18Diary of a CEO for you is
  3298. 2:08:25interesting uh oh it's it's actually not
3299. 2:08:28that profound or interesting but but
  3300. 2:08:31it's I feel
3301. 2:08:34like you're the type of person that will
  3302. 2:08:36interpret a deeper meaning than this
3303. 2:08:38question maybe is alluding to
3304. 2:08:40but really think about this
3305. 2:08:43okay how do you take care of
  3306. 2:08:49you that's actually that's a great
  3307. 2:08:53question
  3308. 2:08:55um I could answer that question on a
  3309. 2:08:58health level like I I have a really
3310. 2:09:01strong Health routine um I get up in the
  3311. 2:09:03morning I meditate I have a hyperbaric
3312. 2:09:05oxygen chamber at home I pop in my
3313. 2:09:07chamber um I read like I the first two
3314. 2:09:10hours of my day are for me first before
3315. 2:09:13anybody else so I have that part of me
  3316. 2:09:17but I want to give a a a deeper answer
  3317. 2:09:20to that
3318. 2:09:23um I'm really getting to know myself and
  3319. 2:09:26what my needs are especially as a 53y
  3320. 2:09:28old woman who's moving through menopause
  3321. 2:09:31and really honoring
3322. 2:09:35that how I care for myself is more
3323. 2:09:38important than anything else and what I
3324. 2:09:40mean by that is when I say no to things
3325. 2:09:43not overscheduling myself uh putting my
  3326. 2:09:46needs before everybody else's these are
  3327. 2:09:49things I haven't done in my life and
3328. 2:09:51right now I'm really working on caring
3329. 2:09:53for myself first so that I can pour love
3330. 2:09:56into the world after that love me first
  3331. 2:10:00why is that
3332. 2:10:02important I think for me I have been in
3333. 2:10:06the healing profession for so long I've
  3334. 2:10:08been a mother a wife and I've done
  3335. 2:10:11everything for everybody else and I
  3336. 2:10:14stand here at 53 saying I'm going to
3337. 2:10:17start doing things for me now and that
3338. 2:10:19feels that feels like selflove and that
3339. 2:10:22feels like where health is going to live
  3340. 2:10:24for me and um I haven't I haven't spent
3341. 2:10:27much time doing that in my life so I'm
3342. 2:10:29learning to do it for the first time
3343. 2:10:33now Mindy Dr Mindy pels that is
3344. 2:10:37beautiful thank you so much thank you so
3345. 2:10:39much for your wisdom um your remarkable
  3346. 2:10:44engaging captivating Storyteller author
  3347. 2:10:46content creator and a wonderful
  3348. 2:10:48practitioner everything you do you've
3349. 2:10:49helped so many people with your work
3350. 2:10:51work and I'm I was so excited when they
3351. 2:10:53told me I'd be have the honor of having
3352. 2:10:54a conversation with you today this is
3353. 2:10:56one of those conversations that
  3354. 2:10:58genuinely will change people's lives and
3355. 2:11:01isn't that an amazing thing it's really
3356. 2:11:02cool yeah isn't that an amazing thing
3357. 2:11:04that we can sit here and all the stuff
  3358. 2:11:06you've shared will have a significant
3359. 2:11:08impact on one person's life millions of
3360. 2:11:11people's lives hundreds of thousands of
3361. 2:11:13people's lives which will mean that they
3362. 2:11:14live a more fulfilled existence they can
3363. 2:11:16kiss their and hug their kids for longer
3364. 2:11:18and that is because of the work you do
3365. 2:11:20so on behalf of all those people who may
