- 0:00The middle corridor covering
- 0:02approximately 4,250
- 0:04km of rail and 500 km of sea where
- 0:07containers, oil, gas, and electricity
- 0:10are transported via railways, ports, and
- 0:13pipelines.
- 0:21I'm Nadira Tuda and welcome to Business
- 0:25Horizons. On today's program, we're
- 0:27looking at the middle corridor as a bjon
- 0:29as a regional transport hub.
- 0:38>> Welcome to business horizons, Mr. Madov.
- 0:40>> Thank you very much.
- 0:41>> Over the past few years, the middle
- 0:42corridor has attracted growing
- 0:44international attention. Why do you
- 0:46think that is? The corridor itself
- 0:48becoming more uh transforming from
- 0:52regional kind of corridor more to trade
- 0:55corridor concept. We have an advantage
- 0:57of the Caspian Sea and that enable us to
- 1:00increase the efficiency of
- 1:02transportation of the goods over the
- 1:04middle corridor. Therefore, geographical
- 1:06position of Aerben is very important.
- 1:08>> How important is it to create those
- 1:11partnerships that coordination with the
- 1:13countries involved that you've
- 1:15mentioned? Every country has its own
- 1:17ecosystem. Every country has its own
- 1:19infrastructure that includes railway,
- 1:23marine and middle corridor itself in
- 1:25that terms has many different
- 1:27participants. Improving the coordination
- 1:29work is the very important in this term.
- 1:32>> Now we know that digitalization has
- 1:35transformed logistics. How is
- 1:38digitalization helping um Aabjan
- 1:41railways for example or the work that
- 1:43you're doing
- 1:44>> today in the modern world we need to uh
- 1:47know
- 1:49immediately where the cargo is at what
- 1:52stage uh whether there is a delays or
- 1:55any kind of services to be provided that
- 1:58is tracked by digital solutions. How do
- 2:01you see the future in terms of both
- 2:03opportunities and challenges when it
- 2:05comes to the middle corridor?
- 2:07>> Middle corridor
- 2:10has increased its expansion becoming
- 2:13more like intercontinental kind of trade
- 2:16route. So we better coordinate our
- 2:19efforts in order to provide the end to
- 2:21end solutions for our customers.
- 2:30Now time for our business horizons
- 2:33insight. The middle corridor is a
- 2:36multimodal system. Cargo containers are
- 2:38transported by trucks and rail on land
- 2:41starting in China and moving through
- 2:42countries including Kazakhstan, Azabjan,
- 2:45Georgia, and Turkey. And by sea they
- 2:47cross the Caspian and Black Seas on
- 2:49feries. The Baku International Trade
- 2:52Seapport handled approximately 8 million
- 2:54tons of cargo in the first 11 months of
- 2:562025 and are working towards full
- 2:59capacity of 25 million tons in the
- 3:01coming years which is a significant
- 3:03target for Azabjan. According to the
- 3:05World Economic Forum, the middle
- 3:07corridor is a strategic artery for both
- 3:09trade and energy flows, moving
- 3:12containers, oil, gas and increasingly
- 3:15electricity. But behind every container,
- 3:18every freight train and every shipment
- 3:20are sophisticated control systems. We
- 3:23went on location to find out more.
- 3:31Port of Baku plays the role of gateway
- 3:33uh which is the main transit hub in the
- 3:36region which connects the Asian ports
- 3:39with the European ports. The main
- 3:42commodity that port handles are
- 3:44containers, brick bulk, bulk and the
- 3:48general cargo. Uh also we are handling
- 3:52roro and uh ferry cargos such as trucks,
- 3:55trailers, uh rail cars etc. One of the
- 3:59main commodities are agricultural
- 4:02products, fertilizers, manufacturing
- 4:04goods, household goods etc. Once the
- 4:07vessel arrived, we have to discharge the
- 4:10cargo on time and deliver it to the
- 4:13final destination on time. As demand
- 4:15grows in the middle corridor,
- 4:19one of the best uh indicator for that is
- 4:21that container handling capacity grow
- 4:24grew up significantly. For example,
- 4:27compared to last year with the 2024
- 4:30cargo handling volume increased by 40%.
- 4:34First time in the port history, the bulk
- 4:36cargo handling capacity reached over 1
- 4:39million tons.
- 4:45Global trade needs more than solid
- 4:47infrastructure. We know it's dependent
- 4:49on connectivity, resilience, and
- 4:52international cooperation. That's all
- 4:54for this edition of Business Horizons.
- 4:56Thanks for watching.
