  5. 0:06the knowledge of London is easy the fact
  6. 0:08is most of you make it harder for
  7. 0:10absolutely no reason at all if you
  8. 0:12listen to the beginnner talk that tfl
  9. 0:14give you are instantly going to make it
  10. 0:16harder if you follow the schools that
  11. 0:18are telling you to follow the method
  12. 0:20that tfl tell you to do you're instantly
  13. 0:21going to make it harder there are three
  14. 0:24things to the knowledge calling a blue
  15. 0:25book learning point to point and finding
  16. 0:27points the are three things and how you
  17. 0:29do them is the thing that is going to
  18. 0:31make you take longer or do the knowledge
  19. 0:34quicker it's really really simple when I
  20. 0:36say the knowledge is easy it's easy In
  21. 0:38the comparison of if you had to dig a
  22. 0:41th000 foot hole anyone can do it you
  23. 0:43just start digging but the better tools
  24. 0:45you have or the better idea you have
  25. 0:46then you maybe could do it easier with
  26. 0:48less hard work less effort here's the
  27. 0:50First Fundamental mistake people make
  28. 0:53first of all the Blue Book itself
  29. 0:55learning to call the Blue Book runs is
  30. 0:57the B all and end all of the whole
  31. 0:59Foundation you do not need to see those
  32. 1:01runs visualize them in your head you
  33. 1:03don't need that you don't need to
  34. 1:04memorize them even what you need to be
  35. 1:06able to do is say them that's it can you
  36. 1:11say the run and you'll be surprised how
  37. 1:13many of you fail at this one aspect stop
  38. 1:16trying to do anything else you're not
  39. 1:18actually memorizing them you're going to
  40. 1:20put them in your usable memory which
  41. 1:21means that if you use them regularly
  42. 1:23they will stay there with you as soon as
  43. 1:25you stop using they'll disappear so
  44. 1:27you're not hoping that you're ever going
  45. 1:28to memorize them completely you're just
  46. 1:29hoping that you can use them today and
  47. 1:32if you do that if you successfully use
  48. 1:34them today you will probably be able to
  49. 1:37successfully use them tomorrow so this
  50. 1:39is the first step that makes the
  51. 1:41knowledge
  52. 1:42easy you need to bear in mind that the
  53. 1:44runs consist of about 3,500 Road names
  54. 1:47that you're trying to learn now if you
  55. 1:49had a journey of 1,000 miles to travel
  56. 1:51500 were up one road and 500 would up
  57. 1:54the other Road you couldn't bounce
  58. 1:56between the two roads you'd be quicker
  59. 1:57off traveling down one road and coming
  60. 1:59back down the other to travel the whole
  61. 2:00journey this is kind of a metaphor for
  62. 2:02the fact of when you try to do points
  63. 2:03and runs together you are trying to do
  64. 2:05two things at once bouncing from one to
  65. 2:07the other it's not a good idea for so
  66. 2:09many reasons but the biggest reason it's
  67. 2:12not a good idea is that the points you
  68. 2:14will learn on your radius Maps no one
  69. 2:17asks 60% of the points that you will
  70. 2:19learn on your radius maps are useless so
  71. 2:22you're doing 60% of that work for no
  72. 2:25reason at all other than the fact it
  73. 2:27might be asked so don't do that
  74. 2:30the other 40% falls into the category of
  75. 2:33relatively important to very important
  76. 2:35so why are you not finding as a beginner
  77. 2:37the very important points so that's what
  78. 2:40I would suggest you did if you follow
  79. 2:42the idea that tfl to you do this
  80. 2:44dumbbell system and doing the runs in
  81. 2:45Reverse this system is what they've been
  82. 2:47telling people to do since the 60s so
  83. 2:50think about it if they've been telling
  84. 2:52people to do this system since then do
  85. 2:54you know you used to finish the
  86. 2:55knowledge in the 60s in four appearances
  87. 2:57and they had 468 runs to to do so how
  88. 3:00did they do it quicker back then doing
  89. 3:02that system it doesn't make any sense
  90. 3:05does it cuz you can't do it quicker now
  91. 3:06and you got less runs to do it's because
  92. 3:08it was a madeup idea so stop making the
  93. 3:11knowledge harder for yourself if you
  94. 3:13follow these ideas you are going to find
  95. 3:15the knowledge harder and you are going
  96. 3:17to take longer on your personal Journey
  97. 3:19Through the knowledge so step one call
  98. 3:22the Blue Book call it fluently that's
  99. 3:24all you need to be able to do call it
  100. 3:27today call the runs you've done today
  101. 3:28call them tomorrow call them every day
  102. 3:30over a 4 day cycle that's it achieve
  103. 3:33that and you're in good shape what
  104. 3:36happens next the next easy part of the
  105. 3:38knowledge is finding points how do you
  106. 3:40make that difficult you make it
  107. 3:42difficult by thinking that you need to
  108. 3:43find the detail of every single point
  109. 3:45that you find and that is a disaster and
  110. 3:47you also make it more difficult by
  111. 3:49creating an extra job for yourself
  112. 3:50called Administration which is taking
  113. 3:52notes and putting that into some form of
  114. 3:54lexicon that you can flick through and
  115. 3:56find later on none of that is necessary
  116. 3:59it's an absolute distraction and will
  117. 4:02make you take longer to learn what it is
  118. 4:04that you're trying to learn you need to
  119. 4:07know the name of a point and a road it's
  120. 4:08in it's absolutely true that's all you
  121. 4:10need to know because how you learn the
  122. 4:13detail is done by point to point so your
  123. 4:16step is first one can you call the Blue
  124. 4:18Book fluently please achieve that
  125. 4:19because if you don't you're in big
  126. 4:20trouble and so many of you don't achieve
  127. 4:23that second is to build a repertoire of
  128. 4:24points for your written test and first
  129. 4:26appearance which means you need about
  130. 4:28600 to a000 ,500 you do not need 6,000
  131. 4:32so if you spend your time getting 6,000
  132. 4:34before you take that written test and
  133. 4:36before you take that first appearance
  134. 4:37you are on the knowledge longer that's
  135. 4:39it simple when you take that first
  136. 4:41appearance with the 1500 or so points
  137. 4:43you've got you have a very very good
  138. 4:44chance of scoring and they're supposed
  139. 4:45to ask you very very basic questions
  140. 4:47based on the blue book on that first
  141. 4:49appearance you can then spend every 56
  142. 4:52days between those appearances building
  143. 4:53your points repertoire and practicing
  144. 4:55your point to point so the next thing is
  145. 4:57is point to point when you practice
  146. 4:59point point to point this is where the
  147. 5:01detail is learned so why are you
  148. 5:03learning detail for something that you
  149. 5:05have no idea if it's going to be asked
  150. 5:08yet every day there are more questions
  151. 5:09coming out that you can't practice
  152. 5:11because there's too many of them but
  153. 5:12instead you're spending time practicing
  154. 5:13and revising from your notes the gump
  155. 5:16that you picked up from a point that is
  156. 5:17never going to be asked in that fashion
  157. 5:20when you do point to point you are
  158. 5:21actually looking at the stuff being
  159. 5:23asked and finding the puzzles that need
  160. 5:25to be solved so as you answer it you're
  161. 5:29live a find that oh I knew the answer or
  162. 5:32oh that was difficult but I can figure
  163. 5:33this one out or you have no idea and if
  164. 5:36you have no idea you research it and
  165. 5:38when you research it and investigate it
  166. 5:40you will learn it the investigation part
  167. 5:42is an absolute wonderful way of learning
  168. 5:45the detail because it gets remembered
  169. 5:47and you're doing it for something that
  170. 5:49was asked so as I said earlier the
  171. 5:51knowledge is easy the free parts are do
  172. 5:54the Blue Book learn to call it don't
  173. 5:55need to see it don't need to memorize it
  174. 5:57don't need to do anything just need to
  175. 5:58be able to say say it without looking at
  176. 6:00it that's it achieve that take care of
  177. 6:03it step by step second part build a
  178. 6:04points repertoire know the road that the
  179. 6:06point is in that's it can you say the
  180. 6:08road that the point is in when you're
  181. 6:09asked if you can achieve that then you
  182. 6:12can do point to point do point to point
  183. 6:14as much as you possibly can and in
  184. 6:16between every appearance keep building
  185. 6:19the points repertoire that you have
  186. 6:20you're going to need about 6,000 points
  187. 6:22by the end of the knowledge and that
  188. 6:23would be plenty but just do that
  189. 6:26there're the threee parts if you want to
  190. 6:27do extra runs the missing piece are
  191. 6:29probably the only book that you need to
  192. 6:31do the extra runs from you do not need
  193. 6:33to do the reverse so people will say oh
  194. 6:35but they ask the reverse fine it's a bit
  195. 6:37like saying they ask 2 plus 1 and then
  196. 6:39they ask 1 plus 2 if you're not able to
  197. 6:41calculate it then basically you don't
  198. 6:44understand maths so the idea is this do
  199. 6:47the Blue Book runs do the missing pieces
  200. 6:48to give you extra rows that won't be in
  201. 6:50your repertoire you are then doing
  202. 6:52pointto point and learning how to
  203. 6:54calculate so the more runs you keep
  204. 6:56adding to that you're just adding a
  205. 6:58routine of stuff you need to call yet
  206. 6:59the blue book and the missing pieces was
  207. 7:01plenty you don't need to do bankers
  208. 7:04learn to answer questions you don't need
  209. 7:06to do the links use the links to drive
  210. 7:08from one run to the other just to see
  211. 7:10what it did but you don't need to learn
  212. 7:12those because again you should be able
  213. 7:13to calculate it don't do the reverse
  214. 7:16because again you should be able to
  215. 7:18calculate it and if you're unable to
  216. 7:19calculate great you can work it out on
  217. 7:21the map when you've been asked it to see
  218. 7:22what the answer would be and if you are
  219. 7:24so unlucky to be asked any of this stuff
  220. 7:26that you haven't practiced on an
  221. 7:27appearance it is just hard luck you
  222. 7:30couldn't have covered that base unless
  223. 7:31you attempted to know everything so I'm
  224. 7:33going to say it again the knowledge is
  225. 7:35actually easy you keep making it hard
  226. 7:37you make it hard by trying to do the
  227. 7:39points and the runs together and if
  228. 7:40you're doing the reverse you're wasting
  229. 7:42your time and if you're doing the whiz
  230. 7:43links you're wasting your time if you're
  231. 7:44learning the bankers you're wasting your
  232. 7:46time and if you just learn to call your
  233. 7:47blue book if you just build a points
  234. 7:49repertoire and if you practice pointto
  235. 7:51point and you kept building your points
  236. 7:53repertoire the knowledge would be easy
  237. 7:55you'd finish quite quickly so you want
  238. 7:58to know how quickly you can finish fin
  239. 7:59it in it should be in around 18 months
  240. 8:00to 2 years and here's what you need to
  241. 8:02do do 16 runs a week and finish all your
  242. 8:04runs in 20 weeks find about 1,000 points
  243. 8:08which should take you a further 8 to 10
  244. 8:10weeks and go for your written test and
  245. 8:12your appearances start keep practicing
  246. 8:15point to point every day and make sure
  247. 8:17it's a volume make sure you're
  248. 8:18practicing as many questions as you can
  249. 8:21and keep growing your points repertoire
  250. 8:24don't sit at home taking notes don't sit
  251. 8:26at home revising long lists of notes in
  252. 8:29addition obviously you need to revise
  253. 8:30the points and what you do for revision
  254. 8:31of the points is that you just say the
  255. 8:33name of the point and where it is the
  256. 8:35name of the point and where it is every
  257. 8:36other detail that you try to revise with
  258. 8:38it you're just adding time to the
  259. 8:40revision that you're doing and you're
  260. 8:41most likely going to drop points that
  261. 8:42you should have got every piece of
  262. 8:45detail is learned from point to point
  263. 8:48and if you investigate it it actually
  264. 8:50gets learned deeper than if you had
  265. 8:52lists and list of notes that you took
  266. 8:54that you're trying to memorize by
  267. 8:55revising them and repeating them the
  268. 8:58knowledge is easy get on with
  269. 9:06[Music]
