- 0:15a federal judge presiding over the gulf
- 0:17oil spill trial heard uh videotape
- 0:19testimony from tony hayward
- 0:21who was the ceo of bp at the time of the
- 0:23oil spill in the gulf back in 2010
- 0:25we only heard about a 20-minute portion
- 0:27of the tape of testimony that lasted for
- 0:30several days back in 2011
- 0:32but in it uh tony hayward talks about
- 0:35budget cutting and said that the cuts
- 0:37that were made before the spill
- 0:39didn't have any effect on drilling
- 0:40operations however the plane of
- 0:43suing bp followed that up by playing
- 0:46portions of a tape from somebody who has
- 0:47since left the company
- 0:48who was in charge of gulf drilling
- 0:51operations who said that he had to cut
- 0:53250 to 300 million dollars from the gulf
- 0:57operations drilling budget between 2008
- 0:59and 2009
- 1:00i think the plants are clearly trying to
- 1:02show that there's a disconnect between
- 1:04what
- 1:05tony hayward said about the effect of
- 1:06budget cuts at bp and what this former
- 1:08executive who has since
- 1:10resigned just before this bill said
- 1:13in terms of what the possible impact may
- 1:15have been on safety in the gulf
- 1:17and this other kevin lacy this other
- 1:19executive
- 1:21insisted that he never put profits ahead
- 1:23of safety
- 1:25but he certainly said he felt pressure
- 1:27to make cuts that could have
- 1:29affected safety
- 1:36[Applause]
- 1:39this trial is going to last for three
- 1:40months uh at least if barring a
- 1:42settlement but we're going to see
- 1:43more testimony from a expert on drilling
- 1:46who is testifying for the justice
- 1:47department
- 1:48uh transocean's about to question him
- 1:50and i think bp will get a chance later
- 1:52too
- 1:53but he's been fairly critical in his
- 1:55testimony
- 1:56already about what bp did and how it
- 1:59drilled this well
- 2:18ah
