  11. 0:46quite a morning person that morning I
  12. 0:50decided to have 10 minutes more embedded
  13. 0:53those 10 minutes would come at a price
  14. 0:56on July the 7th 2005 Martin ride was
  15. 1:01just another passenger and the london
  16. 1:02underground until she sat next to a
  17. 1:05suicide bomber I just had a white flash
  18. 1:08in front of my eyes and I felt like I
  19. 1:11was being thrown from side to side and I
  20. 1:15remember consciously thinking what the
  21. 1:19hell is going on today the chilling
  22. 1:23sound I've son of joseph lee st vehicles
  23. 1:26the boys out of birds and suddenly it
  24. 1:34was just black devastation you know it
  25. 1:38did blackness
  26. 1:45I don't remember the pain I just do not
  27. 1:47remember any pain all I could see was a
  28. 1:52sort of metal going down into me I
  29. 1:56didn't realize that my legs were were
  30. 1:58caught up in it there was just an
  31. 2:00electrical sort of burnings now and it
  32. 2:03was getting a little quieter and quieter
  33. 2:04as well and I can only really equate
  34. 2:07that to in the beginning of people
  35. 2:10dying and things
  36. 2:14I could see this figure coming down
  37. 2:17towards the door that been blown off and
  38. 2:21this was Liz Liz Kenworthy the off-duty
  39. 2:24police woman
  40. 2:26um I'm basically this was the the lady
  41. 2:30that same I not
  42. 2:39she that's why it's alright just yeah I
  43. 2:44just think I'm so lucky just so lucky oh
  44. 2:49she she came through and I can't imagine
  45. 2:56again what she was faced with but
  46. 2:58because you know I was there and she and
  47. 3:01she saw the state of my legs and I
  48. 3:05remember seeing her and I just kept
  49. 3:07saying to her my name's montine right
  50. 3:10please tell my mom and dad I'm okay my

  55. 3:24have a lady that is description of your
  56. 3:27daughter but we need to tell you the
  57. 3:30extent their injuries
  58. 3:33just
  59. 3:35did I help you know um cuz they must
  60. 3:39have been one half of them must have
  61. 3:41been God thank God we found another half
  62. 3:45must have been because the study about
  63. 3:48you know I'm 77 2005 Martin rights began
  64. 3:53a quite extraordinary journey a very
  65. 3:56personal stories inseparable from
  66. 3:57London's public preparations for the
  67. 3:59games by 2007 as London's often
  68. 4:03embattled organizers were bruised by
  69. 4:05budget issues and battered by a hostile
  70. 4:07response to the games logo Martine began
  71. 4:10to reveal her irrepressible spirit
  72. 4:12learning to ski and fly then in May 2008
  73. 4:19as Boris Johnson became mayor of london
  74. 4:21the Beijing Games provided Martine a map
  75. 4:24for her own journey I knew that I had to
  76. 4:27do something as a result of losing my
  77. 4:28legs that day otherwise to me it would
  78. 4:31have been all a complete waste of time
  79. 4:32so I was actually looking at the
  80. 4:37paralympics in a very new light in a in
  81. 4:40a light of a disabled person and looking
  82. 4:43at it and thinking and what God wouldn't
  83. 4:45it be amazing to do something like that
  84. 4:48so I started playing for a Sitting
  85. 4:51Volleyball Club
  86. 4:52what I did enjoy about it is that you're
  87. 4:56not in your chair you know you you move
  88. 4:58on on the floor it's very dynamic game
  89. 5:00very fast game I came into politics in
  90. 5:052010 Britain elected its youngest prime
  91. 5:07minister in nearly 200 years with little
  92. 5:11experience herself Martine tried out for
  93. 5:13the first gb sitting volleyball team she
  94. 5:16was selected to play in the World
  95. 5:18Championships in a chilling coincidence
  96. 5:21they traveled to the tournament in the
  97. 5:23USA and she lie the seventh that's when
  98. 5:27I sort of realized oh my god I could be
  99. 5:31on such a special journey on you know I
  100. 5:36could actually end up at the paralympics
  101. 5:40as the mood turned roared you are in the
  102. 5:43riots of 2011 it was a tense time for
  103. 5:46Martine and her teammates who still had
  104. 5:49to persuade the british paralympic
  105. 5:50association they were good enough to
  106. 5:52appear at the games the news they
  107. 5:54dreamed of finally came in March 2012 I
  108. 5:57just think back and I actually can't
  109. 6:01believe the journey that
  110. 6:04has happened and is happening now that
  111. 6:07I'm on you know maybe I was always meant
  112. 6:11to get up late that morning maybe I was
  113. 6:13always meant to run up the escalator and
  114. 6:16jump on that carriage that I got on you
  115. 6:18know maybe I was always meant to do this
  116. 6:20journey I don't know I can't I can't
  117. 6:22answer that all i can say is that i'm
  118. 6:26just lucky to be living this dream now
