  16. 0:48that morning I decided to have ten
  17. 0:52minutes
  18. 0:53those ten minutes would come at a price
  19. 0:56on July the 7th 2005 Martine ride was
  20. 1:01just another passenger on the London
  21. 1:02Underground until she sat next to a
  22. 1:05suicide bomber I just had a white flash
  23. 1:08in front of my eyes and I felt like I
  24. 1:11was being thrown from side to side and I
  25. 1:15remember consciously thinking what the
  26. 1:20hell is going on today the chilling
  27. 1:23sound Ives son of terribly guilty
  28. 1:25vehicles
  29. 1:26the [ __ ] out of her today
  30. 1:29encourages killing suddenly it was just
  31. 1:35black devastation you know it's just
  32. 1:39blackness
  33. 1:43[Music]
  34. 1:45I don't remember the pain I just do not
  35. 1:47remember any pain all I could see was a
  36. 1:52sort of metal going down into me I
  37. 1:56didn't realize that my legs were were
  38. 1:58caught up in it and there was just an
  39. 2:00electrical sort of burning smell and it
  40. 2:03was getting a little quieter and quieter
  41. 2:05as well and I can only really equate
  42. 2:07that to in the beginning of people were
  43. 2:10dying in things
  44. 2:14I could see this figure coming down
  45. 2:17towards the door that been blown off and
  46. 2:21this was Leslie's Kenworthy the off-duty
  47. 2:24policeman
  48. 2:25[Music]
  49. 2:27and basically this was the lady that
  50. 2:30saved my life
  51. 2:32[Music]
  52. 2:39she just think I'm so lucky just so
  53. 2:47lucky she ji came through and I can't
  54. 2:55imagine again what she was faced with
  55. 2:58but because you know I was there and she
  56. 3:01and she saw the states of my legs and I
  57. 3:05remember seeing her and I just kept
  58. 3:07saying to her my name is Martine right
  59. 3:10please tell my mom and dad I'm okay my
  60. 3:12name's Martine right on 7-7 2005 Martine
  61. 3:16rights began a quite extraordinary
  62. 3:18journey her very personal stories
  63. 3:20inseparable from London's public
  64. 3:22preparations for the games by 2007 as
  65. 3:26London's often embattled organisers were
  66. 3:28bruised by budget issues and battered by
  67. 3:30a hostile response to the games logo
  68. 3:32Martine began to reveal her
  69. 3:34irrepressible spirit learning to ski and
  70. 3:37fly then in May 2008 as Boris Johnson
  71. 3:40became mayor of London the Beijing Games
  72. 3:42provided Martine a map for her own
  73. 3:45journey I knew that I had to do
  74. 3:46something as a result of losing my legs
  75. 3:48that day otherwise to me it would have
  76. 3:51been all the complete waste of time so I
  77. 3:53was actually looking the Paralympics in
  78. 3:58a very new light you know in a light of
  79. 4:00a disabled person and
  80. 4:03and thinking oh my god wouldn't it be
  81. 4:05amazing to do something like that so I
  82. 4:08started playing for a Sitting Volleyball
  83. 4:11Club what I did enjoy about it is that
  84. 4:15you're not in your chair you know you
  85. 4:17you you move on on the floor it's very
  86. 4:19dynamic game very fast game in 2010
  87. 4:25Britain elected its youngest prime
  88. 4:27minister in nearly two hundred years
  89. 4:30with little experience herself Martine
  90. 4:33tried out for the first GB Sitting
  91. 4:34Volleyball tea she was selected to play
  92. 4:37in the World Championships in a chilling
  93. 4:40coincidence they traveled to the
  94. 4:42tournaments in the USA and July the 7th
  95. 4:45that's when I sort of realized oh my god
  96. 4:50I could be on such a special journey you
  97. 4:56know I could actually end up the
  98. 4:59Paralympics
  99. 5:00as the mood turned roared you're in the
  100. 5:02riots of 2011 it was a tense time for
  101. 5:05Martine and her teammates who still had
  102. 5:08to persuade the British Paralympic
  103. 5:10Association they were good enough to
  104. 5:12appear at the games the news they
  105. 5:14dreamed of finally came in March 2012
  106. 5:17I just think back and I actually can't
  107. 5:21believe the journey that has happened
  108. 5:25and is happening now that I'm on you
  109. 5:29know maybe I was always meant to get up
  110. 5:31late that morning maybe I was always
  111. 5:33meant to run up the escalator and jump
  112. 5:36on that carriage that I got on you know
  113. 5:38maybe I was always meant to do this
  114. 5:40journey I don't know I can't I can't
  115. 5:42answer that all I can say is that I'm
  116. 5:46just lucky to be living this dream now
  117. 5:49[Music]
