5. 0:08television Robert Durst long suspected
6. 0:10in The Disappearance of his beautiful
7. 0:12young wife later suspected of murdering
8. 0:14A Friend In Cold Blood just weeks after
9. 0:16the investigation into his wife was
10. 0:18reopened and then in a third case
11. 0:20acquitted even after admitting he killed
12. 0:22a neighbor well tonight Durst under
13. 0:24arrest in that orange jumpsuit entering
14. 0:26Court about to be extradited charged
15. 0:28with murder after the HBO documentary
16. 0:31The Jinx playing audio of Durst when the
17. 0:33cameras were off but the mic was still
18. 0:35recording
19. 0:38hell kill them all of course tonight
20. 0:42Durst is behind bars in New Orleans as
21. 0:44authorities reveal what they found on
22. 0:46him when they arrested him ABC's Matt
23. 0:48Gutman leading us off police say Robert
24. 0:50Durst LED Shackled into court today was
25. 0:52armed and dangerous when he was arrested
26. 0:54on a first-degree murder charge more
27. 0:56than a decade in the making for 30 years
28. 1:00questions have swirled around his role
29. 1:02in three mysterious deaths his wife
30. 1:04Kathleen Vanishing in 1982 then his
31. 1:07friend and Confidant Susan Burman
32. 1:09murdered execution style in Los Angeles
33. 1:12in 2000 just a month after an
34. 1:14investigation into his wife's
35. 1:16disappearance was opened then a year
36. 1:18later his Texas neighbor killed and
37. 1:21dismembered Durst claimed self-defense
38. 1:24not guilty and was acquitted now this
39. 1:28piece of audio what the hell
40. 1:32did killing them all of course what
41. 1:36seems to be a stunning confession from
42. 1:38the real estate millionaire caught on
43. 1:41camera by HBO producers filming a
44. 1:43documentary about his life the Jinx the
45. 1:46life and deaths of Robert Durst the
46. 1:49filmmakers had just confronted Durst
47. 1:50about similarities in his handwriting
48. 1:52and that of an anonymous letter that
49. 1:55alerted the LAPD that Susan Burman was
50. 1:57dead and can you tell me which one you
51. 1:59did
52. 2:04right no Durst still miked alone in the
53. 2:09bathroom muttering to
54. 2:11himself there it is your court the
55. 2:14director Andrew DKI on Good Morning
56. 2:16America saying he turned the tape over
57. 2:18to police months ago when we finally
58. 2:20found that subsequent admission what
59. 2:23happens in the bathroom um we contacted
60. 2:25them and we said we have something more
61. 2:27then Saturday night just a day before
62. 2:29that episode was to air Durst checked
63. 2:32into this plush hotel in downtown New
64. 2:34Orleans he came in here and he checked
65. 2:36in under an alias that name Ward Everett
66. 2:39Police say they arrived here at about
67. 2:41700 p.m. that night they arrested him
68. 2:43they said that he was in possession of a
69. 2:45weapon a Smith and Wesson 38 Durst
70. 2:48waving his right to fight extradition
71. 2:50his attorney dismissing what some are
72. 2:52calling that confession was pretty slick
73. 2:55you probably get him a an in prob was
74. 2:58very misleading too David sources are
75. 3:00telling us that Durst is still here at
76. 3:02this complex tonight now we asked the
77. 3:04LAPD about The Uncanny timing of that
78. 3:07arrest they said that somebody watching
79. 3:10the show called in an anonymous tip and
80. 3:12that tip led to Durst David M upman
81. 3:15thanks to you I want to bring in ABC's
82. 3:16Chief legal analyst Dan Abrams with us
83. 3:18here tonight and Dan a lot of people are
84. 3:19going to say that sounds like a
85. 3:20confession plain and simple but can it
86. 3:22be used against him probably the defense
87. 3:25will likely argue it shouldn't be
88. 3:27allowed into evidence they will say that
89. 3:28we can't trust this tape we don't know
90. 3:30where it was it could have been
91. 3:32manipulated but those are probably
92. 3:35losing arguments and ultimately the jury
93. 3:37will probably hear it you put that piece
94. 3:39of audio aside and you still have that
95. 3:41moment with the letters too I think it's
96. 3:43actually more powerful uh than the audio
97. 3:45tape on the audio tape I think he's
98. 3:46going to own it I think he's going to
99. 3:47say yes I said it but of course I didn't
100. 3:50mean it I knew they were listening with
101. 3:53the letter boy you look at those side by
102. 3:56side and it's hard to figure out exactly
103. 3:58what he's going to say sure he can call
104. 4:00in a handwriting expert to dispute it
105. 4:02but jurors just look at those two items
106. 4:04of evidence and I think that's going to
107. 4:05be big trouble
