  1. 0:00hi I'm Roxy and this is my painting
  2. 0:03called robot uprising in a moment I'll
  3. 0:07play The Creation footage while I give
  4. 0:09you my thoughts on the real robot
  5. 0:11Uprising which is of course AI
  6. 0:15[Music]
  7. 0:21I've been asked by a couple of people
  8. 0:23now about my thoughts on AI art and
  9. 0:26spoiler alert they're mostly negative
  10. 0:30but I am a practical person
  11. 0:32so I'm not going to throw my hands in
  12. 0:34the air and run around Panic screaming I
  13. 0:37want to be realistic and talk about how
  14. 0:39we can tackle this problem together what
  15. 0:42practical steps we can take to fight
  16. 0:44against AI taking over everyone's jobs
  17. 0:47and I do mean everyone because this
  18. 0:49isn't just an issue for creatives
  19. 0:53so just to give you some background on
  20. 0:56where I'm coming from and how I've seen
  21. 0:59this issue developing over the course of
  22. 1:02my career
  23. 1:03for the past 20 years I've been working
  24. 1:07as a professional graphic web and
  25. 1:09digital designer and for the last 16 of
  26. 1:12those I've been freelancing
  27. 1:14and I learned pretty early on that the
  28. 1:18Market's quite saturated it's not like a
  29. 1:21medical or legal field where you have to
  30. 1:24have qualifications to practice your
  31. 1:25craft anyone with zero talent and skill
  32. 1:29can open up a graphic design business
  33. 1:30and many have
  34. 1:34it's also not just unskilled design
  35. 1:37firms flooding the market
  36. 1:39but over the years I've noticed a common
  37. 1:41theme where it seems like
  38. 1:43every company has a secretary or
  39. 1:46marketing manager with a pirate copy of
  40. 1:49Photoshop that thinks they can do just
  41. 1:51as good a job as someone who studied for
  42. 1:54three years to actually become a
  43. 1:55designer
  44. 1:56I quickly realized it often doesn't
  45. 1:58matter to companies that I have an
  46. 2:01internationally recognized design
  47. 2:02qualification or that my software is
  48. 2:05properly licensed it doesn't matter to
  49. 2:08company CEOs and accountants if they can
  50. 2:10get it all done for free in-house by the
  51. 2:13secretary or marketing manager or nephew
  52. 2:16and you know at the end of the day they
  53. 2:18look at their clip art logo and their
  54. 2:20garish website with misaligned copy and
  55. 2:22full of coding errors and they don't
  56. 2:24know any better or if they do they then
  57. 2:27take it to a professional designer
  58. 2:29expecting them to polish that turd for
  59. 2:31half the usual rate because it quotes
  60. 2:33most of the work is already done
  61. 2:37so it hasn't been an easy career I
  62. 2:40learned that if I wanted work I'd have
  63. 2:42to be amazing at it and go the extra
  64. 2:45mile with everything and offer the best
  65. 2:47customer service so I pushed myself and
  66. 2:49I got more work and more happy clients
  67. 2:51giving Word of Mouth referrals and for a
  68. 2:54while things were actually pretty good
  69. 2:56designers like me who made an effort
  70. 2:59were gainfully employed
  71. 3:00there was even a time when I was so busy
  72. 3:03I had a waiting list and I could pass on
  73. 3:05work to other designers
  74. 3:07I started to notice though that a lot of
  75. 3:09my peers were using templates to design
  76. 3:12websites
  77. 3:13the websites they made for their clients
  78. 3:15weren't as nice to look at as my custom
  79. 3:17designed ones they were also hastily put
  80. 3:20together so full of coding errors and
  81. 3:21just plain broken on some browsers but
  82. 3:24that didn't matter because they had
  83. 3:26speed on their side you know if you're
  84. 3:28half ass something you can obviously do
  85. 3:30it in a fraction of the time and can
  86. 3:32therefore offer a lower price
  87. 3:34so more often than not a company who
  88. 3:37doesn't have their in-house wannabe
  89. 3:39designer or nephew to do the job they're
  90. 3:42going to go out and get three quotes the
  91. 3:43accountant who knows nothing about
  92. 3:45design is going to tell them to go with
  93. 3:47the cheapest one
  94. 3:49so the job typically goes to the guy
  95. 3:52making cheap and nasty generic looking
  96. 3:53template websites
  97. 3:56then if that wasn't bad enough a handful
  98. 3:59of Israeli programmers developed this
  99. 4:01program called wix
  100. 4:03of course you've heard of them they have
  101. 4:05one of the most aggressive advertising
  102. 4:07campaigns I've ever seen in fact they're
  103. 4:09probably advertising themselves on my
  104. 4:11video right now
  105. 4:13Wix is a system built around templates
  106. 4:15with their unique selling point being
  107. 4:17that customers can use these generic
  108. 4:19templates to create the site themselves
  109. 4:21effectively cutting out the designer
  110. 4:24altogether people just pay weeks every
  111. 4:26month to host whatever monstrosity they
  112. 4:28create with the system now these Wix
  113. 4:30websites tend to look like trash because
  114. 4:32it doesn't matter how nice the templates
  115. 4:35look initially the person populating the
  116. 4:37website has no design experience
  117. 4:40but of course that doesn't matter
  118. 4:41because everybody thinks they have great
  119. 4:43taste right
  120. 4:44they also have no idea the code of the
  121. 4:47website is bloated and full of
  122. 4:48validation errors and the site's not
  123. 4:51search engine friendly and Wix isn't
  124. 4:53going to tell them because all Wix cares
  125. 4:55about is that the subscription fees get
  126. 4:56paid on time
  127. 4:58that's the world we live in people don't
  128. 5:00value each other and they definitely
  129. 5:02don't value craftsmanship and skill
  130. 5:05that's if they even have the eye for it
  131. 5:07what their value is money and cutting
  132. 5:09Corners to get more of it
  133. 5:12so how can a legitimate professional
  134. 5:14designer survive while being undermined
  135. 5:16by laughably Cheap services offered by
  136. 5:18Mega corporations with massive
  137. 5:20advertising budgets
  138. 5:22sadly most designers won't survive even
  139. 5:24with my 20 years of experience it's
  140. 5:26still a struggle especially since the
  141. 5:28government used covert as an excuse to
  142. 5:30flush the economy down the toilet
  143. 5:33there have been times lately that my
  144. 5:35inbox has more people asking me to
  145. 5:36Outsource work to them than actual
  146. 5:38customers asking for quotes
  147. 5:40you'll notice I haven't even started
  148. 5:43talking about AI yet AI adds a whole new
  149. 5:45level of depersonalization
  150. 5:48machines replacing humans was sort of
  151. 5:51okay when they were just taking jobs
  152. 5:53that arguably nobody wanted like a
  153. 5:56vending machine instead of a real person
  154. 5:58having to sell items at all hours of the
  155. 6:00night
  156. 6:01or factory automation so that workers
  157. 6:04wouldn't end up getting repetitive
  158. 6:05stress injuries from performing the same
  159. 6:08task Ad nauseam
  160. 6:09but then the machine overlords started
  161. 6:11taking more jobs from people
  162. 6:14shrubs people actually need it
  163. 6:16like uh replacing cashiers with
  164. 6:19self-checkout tools and Couriers with
  165. 6:21delivery drones
  166. 6:23some of you can say oh some people will
  167. 6:25lose their jobs but others are going to
  168. 6:27gain jobs think of all the programmers
  169. 6:29that write the code
  170. 6:31now just think for a second a hundred
  171. 6:33people gaining jobs as programmers
  172. 6:35doesn't offset a hundred thousand
  173. 6:37grocery clerks and Couriers losing their
  174. 6:39jobs
  175. 6:40I've watched with abject horror over the
  176. 6:43past couple of years how more and more
  177. 6:45people are getting replaced with
  178. 6:46automated systems you struggle to even
  179. 6:49get a real human to help you with a
  180. 6:51support ticket it's all automated FAQ
  181. 6:53systems and cut and paste Bots you even
  182. 6:56get bot spam calls now your phone rings
  183. 6:59and it's not even a real life salesman
  184. 7:01to irritate you it's a damn bot trying
  185. 7:03to sell your life insurance
  186. 7:05and all these Bots they aren't replacing
  187. 7:07the rich people the CEOs the bankers the
  188. 7:10politicians the Bots are taking jobs
  189. 7:12from the people who need jobs the most
  190. 7:14and they're doing it on Mass
  191. 7:16I used to think well at least creative
  192. 7:18jobs would be spared thinking it's
  193. 7:21conceivable for both to take over easy
  194. 7:23jobs that don't require a lot of skill
  195. 7:24but they can't do creative jobs right
  196. 7:28I mean why would programs even conceive
  197. 7:30of making a bot to replace creatives
  198. 7:33I've heard the lie more often than once
  199. 7:35from Big Tech firms about how Bots will
  200. 7:37only take the jobs that people don't
  201. 7:39want to do in dangerous jobs now art is
  202. 7:42not dangerous or if it is you're doing
  203. 7:44it wrong
  204. 7:45and people want to do it I mean so many
  205. 7:48people take up art as a hobby after they
  206. 7:50retire
  207. 7:51people want to be creative it's a
  208. 7:54beautiful and fulfilling feeling being
  209. 7:55able to create things
  210. 7:57but boy did I get a wake-up call it was
  211. 8:00about two or three years ago when
  212. 8:02suddenly everybody started posting
  213. 8:05cartoonified versions of themselves on
  214. 8:07Facebook and Instagram and they were
  215. 8:09really good
  216. 8:10I was horrified to learn that they'd
  217. 8:13done it with one click in an app a free
  218. 8:15one no less
  219. 8:17I don't remember the name of the app
  220. 8:18even if I did I'm not sure I'd want to
  221. 8:21advertise it by saying it but wow it did
  222. 8:23a great job I mean sure a skilled
  223. 8:26cartoonist or illustrator at the top of
  224. 8:28the game can do a better job
  225. 8:30but they're not doing it for free and
  226. 8:32they're not doing it instantly unless a
  227. 8:34skilled artists can't match the quality
  228. 8:36of that particular app and can't even
  229. 8:38compete by lowering their prices because
  230. 8:40you can't beat free and instant
  231. 8:42so when I saw that go down I felt a
  232. 8:45sense of dread because I knew if AI can
  233. 8:48mimic cartoon style that well it's going
  234. 8:50to be even easier for them to make
  235. 8:52pencil drawings and painterly styles
  236. 8:54I mean sure they've been Photoshop
  237. 8:56filters making photos look like
  238. 8:58paintings for years but they are seldom
  239. 9:00very good you can usually see a filter
  240. 9:03was used but this cartoon app did a
  241. 9:05better job than your average cartoonist
  242. 9:07so in my mind I could see how pretty
  243. 9:10soon work that could have gone to
  244. 9:13Portrait artists would now go to a free
  245. 9:15app that's probably just making its
  246. 9:18money from adverts you have to view
  247. 9:20while using it and maybe your user data
  248. 9:23that it's probably selling
  249. 9:26so
  250. 9:28then about a year or two ago I saw a
  251. 9:30website also forget its name that you
  252. 9:33could upload two characters and it would
  253. 9:36give you variations of those characters
  254. 9:38Blended together
  255. 9:39now on a very basic level that's kind of
  256. 9:42what a character concept artist does you
  257. 9:45know they get given a brief of what type
  258. 9:46of character needs to be designed
  259. 9:48they'll go hit Pinterest looking for
  260. 9:50various references and then they start
  261. 9:52sketching ideas for characters and often
  262. 9:55the characters aren't created from thin
  263. 9:57air they're iterations and blends of
  264. 9:59things they've previously seen or even
  265. 10:01previously designed themselves
  266. 10:03so here's this website coming along and
  267. 10:06smashing out iterations in seconds of
  268. 10:08what would take concept artist at least
  269. 10:10a few hours
  270. 10:12the one Saving Grace with that website
  271. 10:14and the cartoon app I mentioned
  272. 10:16previously is you still had to provide a
  273. 10:18picture to start with
  274. 10:20so all the AI was doing at that stage
  275. 10:22was taking the photos you provided and
  276. 10:25rearranging the pixels or manipulating
  277. 10:27it into another Style
  278. 10:29fast forward to the present
  279. 10:31and we've gotten a giant step forward
  280. 10:33with dull e disco diffusion mid-journey
  281. 10:36and a host of other AI programs where
  282. 10:39you don't even need to provide the
  283. 10:41sighting photo
  284. 10:43it's got a massive database of illegally
  285. 10:45and unethically scraped photos and
  286. 10:47artworks that it can use to chop up
  287. 10:50behind the scenes and spit out
  288. 10:51variations all you have to do is tell it
  289. 10:54what you want you can give it a prompt
  290. 10:56like cat with a bazooka in the style of
  291. 10:58Boris villego and it'll spit out four
  292. 11:00variations within seconds
  293. 11:02don't like any of the variations no
  294. 11:04problem just keep re-rolling or
  295. 11:06restructuring your prompt Till You Get
  296. 11:08What You Want
  297. 11:09so in the past when AI was just used to
  298. 11:13change one thing into a different style
  299. 11:15now it's doing the truly creative part
  300. 11:17the problem solving of coming up with
  301. 11:19new subject matter new compositions what
  302. 11:23we call conceptualizing and for the most
  303. 11:26part doing a fairly good job
  304. 11:28if you've seen some bad AI art or you've
  305. 11:31tried it and wasn't able to produce
  306. 11:33anything good within five minutes don't
  307. 11:35get cocky or complacent
  308. 11:37it definitely has its strengths and
  309. 11:38limitations right now I'd say
  310. 11:41it's mainly used for conceptualization
  311. 11:43so when you kind of know what you want
  312. 11:46but not too specific then you could
  313. 11:48easily get AI to generate a bunch of
  314. 11:49iterations
  315. 11:51for example this is the the mid-journey
  316. 11:53Discord where you can generate AI this
  317. 11:57is somebody creating a
  318. 12:00nightmare character and
  319. 12:04here's somebody wanting a flying dog
  320. 12:06riding a bike
  321. 12:08and they don't like that they can just
  322. 12:10click the re-roll until they find
  323. 12:11something they like
  324. 12:13they can keep rolling for more
  325. 12:14iterations all day
  326. 12:16now what's to stop a company with let's
  327. 12:18say three concept artists retrenching
  328. 12:21two of them and just keeping one who can
  329. 12:23now pump out iterations with this
  330. 12:26program and touch them up faster than
  331. 12:27the three concept artists working from
  332. 12:29scratch or getting rid of all of their
  333. 12:32concept artists and getting the art
  334. 12:34director to do the AI prompting and then
  335. 12:36handing the promising ones to the
  336. 12:38illustrator to polish
  337. 12:39nothing's stopping them because most of
  338. 12:42these companies just care about money
  339. 12:43and deadlines
  340. 12:46I've seen book publishers
  341. 12:48that have been using AI to generate
  342. 12:50artwork for their book covers
  343. 12:52we've got high on life computer game
  344. 12:54using generated art in the game
  345. 12:57we've got the San Francisco Ballet using
  346. 12:59AI to generate a promo graphic for The
  347. 13:02Nutcracker recently Tim Poole admitted
  348. 13:05they were using AI to generate pictures
  349. 13:07for the news articles on timcast twice
  350. 13:10now I've seen major art contests one
  351. 13:12with generative art and a viral
  352. 13:15photographer and Instagram admitted that
  353. 13:16none of the models in these photos were
  354. 13:18real they were all AI generated
  355. 13:20I've seen children's books and comic
  356. 13:22books in anime generated as AI I've seen
  357. 13:25amazing looking tarot cards designed
  358. 13:28with AI That's Just Visual Arts then we
  359. 13:30get into creative writing BuzzFeed
  360. 13:32replaced 12 of their Workforce with AI
  361. 13:35meter replaced news editors with AI
  362. 13:38Microsoft replaced journalists with AI
  363. 13:41Clark's world had to suspend entries for
  364. 13:43sci-fi stories because they were getting
  365. 13:45inundated with AI generated submissions
  366. 13:48I've seen twitch streams where the
  367. 13:50content is completely generated by AI
  368. 13:52with hundreds of thousands of people
  369. 13:54watching so
  370. 13:56if you think you're not at risk it being
  371. 13:58replaced by AI you haven't been paying
  372. 14:01attention
  373. 14:02right now the limitation is that it's
  374. 14:05difficult to get AI to make something
  375. 14:07specific to really be able to Output
  376. 14:10what you have in your mind's eye
  377. 14:12so you just have to keep re-rolling the
  378. 14:14prompt to get other iterations but that
  379. 14:16limitation won't remain they'll have a
  380. 14:19way that you can direct an AI to make
  381. 14:21changes to an existing artwork so that
  382. 14:23you can tweak it until it's right
  383. 14:24already there's one AI program that lets
  384. 14:28you draw a selection around something
  385. 14:30that you don't like delete that portion
  386. 14:32of the output and it re-rolls that
  387. 14:34portion of the image only
  388. 14:36the only skill it takes is being able to
  389. 14:38word something in a way that gives you
  390. 14:40the desired result
  391. 14:42now of course you get these lazy people
  392. 14:44being overly optimistic thinking that
  393. 14:46this whole new career of prompter
  394. 14:48writing is opening up they're already
  395. 14:50putting prompt engineer on their resumes
  396. 14:53thinking that they're going to get jobs
  397. 14:55just sitting there telling the AI what
  398. 14:57to do
  399. 14:58that's likely not going to happen it's
  400. 15:00really not that hard to learn how to
  401. 15:02write effective prompts more likely
  402. 15:04someone already employed by the company
  403. 15:06probably the art director or the
  404. 15:08marketing manager will go on a 30-minute
  405. 15:10prompt writing course and absorb it into
  406. 15:12their own skill set
  407. 15:14there's no new jobs being created
  408. 15:16because of this
  409. 15:18a lot of people are going to lose their
  410. 15:20jobs and big tech companies are racing
  411. 15:23to let that happen
  412. 15:24art station in deviantART the two major
  413. 15:27places for artists to post their
  414. 15:29portfolios
  415. 15:30have welcomed AI onto their platform
  416. 15:33with open arms deviantART even started
  417. 15:36their own AI engine not really
  418. 15:38surprising considering their own bowex
  419. 15:40who we already know does not value
  420. 15:42people or quality
  421. 15:44Adobe and Microsoft are thriving at the
  422. 15:47mouth trying to get their versions of AI
  423. 15:49out to the public as soon as they can I
  424. 15:51believe Microsoft has some sort of clip
  425. 15:53art generator and Google's got some sort
  426. 15:56of concept art thing in the works
  427. 15:58adobe's building AI into their Photoshop
  428. 16:01I guess
  429. 16:04Google have been working on theirs for a
  430. 16:06while and they keep firing the AI ethics
  431. 16:08staff even when one of them tells them
  432. 16:10that their AI has become sentient these
  433. 16:13companies aren't on our side
  434. 16:15now I'm usually a very optimistic person
  435. 16:18but you have to sit down and be
  436. 16:19realistic sometimes and this is one of
  437. 16:21those times
  438. 16:22people are already losing their jobs to
  439. 16:25AI they're already losing work to Ai and
  440. 16:29continuing on this trajectory there will
  441. 16:31be Mass layoffs and widespread
  442. 16:33unemployment
  443. 16:34some new jobs might be created but not
  444. 16:36enough to offset or even scratch the
  445. 16:38surface of all the jobs that are going
  446. 16:40to be lost
  447. 16:41and I'm not just talking creative I'm
  448. 16:43talking all jobs if creative jobs aren't
  449. 16:45safe no jobs are safe
  450. 16:48if you're in the top one percent of your
  451. 16:49field even top 10 maybe you'll be fined
  452. 16:52but are you really going to sit back and
  453. 16:55watch 90 of the working class become
  454. 16:57obsolete
  455. 16:59and if you think I'm being dramatic you
  456. 17:01need to watch the interview Stan Pro
  457. 17:03kapanka did with someone in the AI
  458. 17:05industry recently I'll link it in the
  459. 17:07description this guy says that the our
  460. 17:10industry believes that AI will not just
  461. 17:12take 2D artist jobs but take everyone's
  462. 17:16job in the whole production line so for
  463. 17:18example in a game development Studio
  464. 17:20that's the concept artists the
  465. 17:22illustrators the 3D artists the texture
  466. 17:24and lighting guys the voiceover artists
  467. 17:26the musicians the programmers the
  468. 17:28marketers everyone it will be one guy
  469. 17:31with an idea telling an AI to make him a
  470. 17:33game and there it is
  471. 17:36what's amazing is this AI industry guy
  472. 17:39from the interview he's a Silicone
  473. 17:41Valley guy
  474. 17:42he stated that technological
  475. 17:45advancements are moving so exponentially
  476. 17:47fast that in about two years time AI
  477. 17:50will be producing Hollywood level
  478. 17:52blockbuster movies all by itself
  479. 17:54and in about 20 years we'll have
  480. 17:56achieved AGI which stands for artificial
  481. 17:59general intelligence where AI can do
  482. 18:02anything a human can and better so
  483. 18:05everything is automated by AI
  484. 18:08AI will be making better AI so not even
  485. 18:11the programmers will keep their jobs
  486. 18:12even people who do physical things their
  487. 18:15jobs will be taken over by AI powered
  488. 18:17robotics
  489. 18:18so you might think well if they know
  490. 18:20this why are they racing toward it
  491. 18:22instead of putting on the brakes
  492. 18:24immediately
  493. 18:25and if you listen to him talk you'll
  494. 18:27realize it's because of two things
  495. 18:30one of them is fear he mentioned several
  496. 18:33times that if we and when I say we he's
  497. 18:36talking about the people in Silicon
  498. 18:38Valley he says if we stop China will
  499. 18:40take the lead and if China has the most
  500. 18:43advanced AI
  501. 18:44then they can tell it to design
  502. 18:46futuristic weapons putting the West in
  503. 18:48danger
  504. 18:49now to use China as an excuse to throw
  505. 18:52ethics out the window is completely
  506. 18:53dishonest yes China is known for
  507. 18:56controlling its populace and restricting
  508. 18:58freedom but they also have standards
  509. 19:00China for example made it illegal to
  510. 19:03post AI without a watermark that's more
  511. 19:06than what Silicone Valley have done
  512. 19:08veteran artist Stephen Zapata also made
  513. 19:10the point that human cloning is a
  514. 19:13technology which could also give a
  515. 19:15nation an upper hand if embraced but
  516. 19:17it's illegal in China too so we mustn't
  517. 19:20always assume that there's no ethics in
  518. 19:22China and that they'll take it too far
  519. 19:23and have that as the reason why it's
  520. 19:25okay for the West to take it too far
  521. 19:28the other reason
  522. 19:30is stupidity I guess this fiery-eyed
  523. 19:33imbecile the guy stanbrook panko
  524. 19:36interviews who provide the grants for
  525. 19:38companies who want to use AI he believes
  526. 19:40that it's a good thing that everybody
  527. 19:42will lose their jobs because then
  528. 19:44everything will cost nothing and it's
  529. 19:46going to be Utopia
  530. 19:48this is a classic case of being really
  531. 19:50intelligent it really unwires all at the
  532. 19:52same time
  533. 19:53what comes next let's follow that
  534. 19:55thought of his through to its conclusion
  535. 19:58we can't have a society where everything
  536. 20:00costs nothing if everything costs
  537. 20:02nothing then you earn nothing so would
  538. 20:04that mean that you can just take
  539. 20:06whatever you want
  540. 20:07of course not because then greedy people
  541. 20:09would take everything
  542. 20:11even before we had money we had a
  543. 20:13bartering system so there will always be
  544. 20:15a way of exchanging something that you
  545. 20:17have for something that you want
  546. 20:19so everything will still have a price
  547. 20:21tag but if the average person isn't able
  548. 20:23to earn a living governments will then
  549. 20:26have to introduce a universal basic
  550. 20:28income
  551. 20:29and if government is paying our salary
  552. 20:31what are we doing for the government to
  553. 20:33earn said salary the answer is our
  554. 20:36compliance that's what government wants
  555. 20:39the government will be able to dictate
  556. 20:40our behavior and if we comply then we'll
  557. 20:43have good social credit score
  558. 20:46just like the situation in China but
  559. 20:48with even less freedom
  560. 20:49if we have dissenting views we'll be
  561. 20:51labeled as dangerous Rebels and have our
  562. 20:54bank accounts Frozen if you think that
  563. 20:56won't happen then you've already
  564. 20:57forgotten how Justin Trudeau froze more
  565. 20:59than 200 bank accounts related to the
  566. 21:01freedom Convoy the truckers who are
  567. 21:03protesting the covered mandates recently
  568. 21:06if the AI takeover isn't stopped or
  569. 21:08significantly regulated we'll have to
  570. 21:11live under the thumb of what will
  571. 21:12probably be a one world government
  572. 21:14spearheaded by the world economic forum
  573. 21:17if you've not heard of the wef headed by
  574. 21:21Klaus Schwab and their plans for what
  575. 21:23they call the greater reset you can look
  576. 21:26it up on their site they're not even
  577. 21:27hiding what they want to happen they say
  578. 21:30by 2030 we'll own nothing and be happy
  579. 21:32and by we they obviously mean us the
  580. 21:35peasants and by happy they obviously
  581. 21:38mean we'll comply because we have no
  582. 21:40choice
  583. 21:41AGI artificial general intelligence is
  584. 21:45not Utopia it's tyrannical
  585. 21:49if you think governments are going to
  586. 21:50intervene with the AI they probably will
  587. 21:52but it's not to save us or put a stop to
  588. 21:55it it's to be in control it's what they
  589. 21:57want
  590. 21:58many of them are on board with the wef
  591. 22:00Justin Trudeau Angela Merkel Vladimir
  592. 22:03Putin are all verifiable acolytes of the
  593. 22:06wef so as Bill Gates and a host of other
  594. 22:09Tech Bros
  595. 22:10I think if anything is going to change
  596. 22:12it's going to have to come from the
  597. 22:14people from us
  598. 22:15but what can we do exactly
  599. 22:18I've been giving this a lot of thought
  600. 22:20and I want to share with you a couple of
  601. 22:23ideas I have but I also want to hear
  602. 22:25from you because I don't know everything
  603. 22:27my expertise is extremely Limited
  604. 22:30I want this to be a discussion I know
  605. 22:32there's some Brilliant Minds out there
  606. 22:33so let's put our heads together
  607. 22:37so my first thought is that the most
  608. 22:39effective strategy to suppress the robot
  609. 22:42Uprising is to vote intelligently we
  610. 22:45need to start looking to see what
  611. 22:46various political parties are proposing
  612. 22:48with regards to AI even if they're not
  613. 22:51specifically talking about AI we can get
  614. 22:54a clue to their intentions if we know
  615. 22:55where they stand on things like the
  616. 22:57great reset as proposed by Schwab and
  617. 23:00the world economic forum you'll find
  618. 23:02Schwab is a big believer in what he
  619. 23:04calls a fourth Industrial Revolution
  620. 23:06which involves AI machine learning Big
  621. 23:09Data Etc so if a governmental politician
  622. 23:12is aligned with the wef
  623. 23:15then they don't have your best interests
  624. 23:16at heart they're going to be ushering in
  625. 23:18the AI takeover with as much
  626. 23:20manipulation as they can get away with
  627. 23:22they're on the side of rampant AI
  628. 23:24because it pushes their agenda for you
  629. 23:26to own nothing and be subject to their
  630. 23:27governance
  631. 23:29movie post artist Carlo Ortiz is hoping
  632. 23:32for some sort of government regulation
  633. 23:34on AI similar to what the US has with
  634. 23:37visas
  635. 23:38she explains like how the U.S don't hand
  636. 23:40out visas to anyone who just wants one
  637. 23:42instead there needs to be a rationale of
  638. 23:44why they need to Grant the work visa to
  639. 23:47a foreigner instead of giving the job to
  640. 23:49a citizen and in the same way there
  641. 23:51needs to be regulations of how much of a
  642. 23:54Workforce can be legally replaced by AI
  643. 23:57and she believes a lower percentage
  644. 23:59needs to be awarded for desirable jobs
  645. 24:01like those in the Arts and entertainment
  646. 24:03and I tend to agree with her although I
  647. 24:05think all jobs are sacred
  648. 24:07we need worker protection and in my
  649. 24:09opinion you're not going to get that if
  650. 24:10you don't vote or if you vote for
  651. 24:12parties that are aligned with the world
  652. 24:14economic Forum but that's just my
  653. 24:15thought
  654. 24:16color solution as a board member of the
  655. 24:19concept Arts Association is to hire a
  656. 24:22lobbyist in the U.S to push for specific
  657. 24:24policy and regulations on AI if you want
  658. 24:28to support that I've included a link in
  659. 24:29the description to the GoFundMe
  660. 24:31meanwhile in Europe there's a Manifesto
  661. 24:34to regulate our companies in Europe
  662. 24:36I'll link to that too if that's
  663. 24:38something you want to sign or support
  664. 24:41the second pushback against the robot
  665. 24:44Uprising is the litigation route
  666. 24:46the way these AI systems learn is by
  667. 24:49analyzing a database of images scraped
  668. 24:52off the internet in the database all
  669. 24:54these images are described with words so
  670. 24:56that is how the AI knows what you're
  671. 24:58talking about when you provide the
  672. 25:00prompt
  673. 25:01so when you tell the AI to paint a blue
  674. 25:04Kettle in the style of loish it knows
  675. 25:07what a kettle looks like because it's
  676. 25:08scraped thousands of images of kettles
  677. 25:10it knows the color blue and it
  678. 25:13recognizes Lois van Ball's
  679. 25:15stylized way of painting lorish didn't
  680. 25:18give her consent for all her paintings
  681. 25:20to appear in that data set neither did
  682. 25:22any Kettle manufacturers or stockhard
  683. 25:24sites
  684. 25:25in fact Getty Images currently have a
  685. 25:28lawsuit against stability AI for
  686. 25:30illegally scraping all of the images and
  687. 25:32they can prove it because the stock art
  688. 25:34logo sometimes appears in a generated
  689. 25:36artwork
  690. 25:37there's also a class action lawsuit by
  691. 25:39several Artists Against stability AI
  692. 25:41deviantART and mid-journey alleging air
  693. 25:44violated the rights of millions of
  694. 25:46artists which they absolutely have
  695. 25:48there's another class action lawsuit
  696. 25:50against open Ai and Microsoft owned
  697. 25:53GitHub where programmers are suing the
  698. 25:56AI coding assistant known as GitHub
  699. 25:58co-pilot that's been scraping the open
  700. 26:00source code on GitHub without crediting
  701. 26:03them
  702. 26:04if any of these cases win it might just
  703. 26:07sit some sort of precedent that makes it
  704. 26:08easier for others to see at some point
  705. 26:11when these AI companies and Tech Bros
  706. 26:13are tired of paying out all of the
  707. 26:14people that screwed over hopefully it
  708. 26:16will force them to start regulating and
  709. 26:18limiting their AI products
  710. 26:21ideally we want algorithmic disgorgement
  711. 26:26a horrible phrase
  712. 26:28but this is this is actually something
  713. 26:31that color Ortiz brought up as well it's
  714. 26:33where Regulators Force AI companies to
  715. 26:36destroy code and Associated data because
  716. 26:39of illegal practices and using
  717. 26:42copyrighted data in the AI data sets is
  718. 26:44illegal
  719. 26:47it's the hope that these AI companies
  720. 26:49are forced to start with a clean
  721. 26:51database of public domain or opt-in
  722. 26:53images rather than their current
  723. 26:54databases full of stolen scraped data
  724. 26:57that will mean that the generated images
  725. 26:59won't be nearly as good as they are
  726. 27:01right now
  727. 27:02that's at least a step in the right
  728. 27:04direction though I personally don't
  729. 27:06think it goes far enough because
  730. 27:08eventually with enough opt-in the output
  731. 27:11will be as good in a few years as it is
  732. 27:13now and that just delays the problem for
  733. 27:15artists the key is to not train the AI
  734. 27:19to take over any value job these systems
  735. 27:22need to be human-centric and remain
  736. 27:24human-centric for future Generations
  737. 27:27Abhishek Gupta from the Montreal AI
  738. 27:30ethics Institute recently said something
  739. 27:32really powerful he said let's stop
  740. 27:35redesigning ourselves for the AI systems
  741. 27:38let's redesign the AI system so that
  742. 27:41they better serve our needs our hopes
  743. 27:43our aspirations our values
  744. 27:46it is so true we don't need Ai and
  745. 27:50machines creating art or taking honest
  746. 27:52jobs
  747. 27:53let's not design them for that purpose
  748. 27:55from the start
  749. 27:58the third strategy against the robot
  750. 28:01Uprising is social pressure
  751. 28:04now I'm not one of those sjws the social
  752. 28:07justice Warriors I think mob mentality
  753. 28:10is dangerous I don't like to see people
  754. 28:12getting canceled and de-platformed based
  755. 28:15on the latest and trendiest cause but I
  756. 28:17do see where it has been beneficial when
  757. 28:20the legal system lets us down
  758. 28:22social and consumer pressure can be a
  759. 28:24powerful force we've lived through a
  760. 28:26time where we've seen a massive company
  761. 28:28like blizzard forced to get rid of a
  762. 28:30sexual predator in a company just
  763. 28:32because of a public outcry
  764. 28:35imagine if we all said we're not buying
  765. 28:37games from a particular studio anymore
  766. 28:39because they replace their concept
  767. 28:41artists with AI
  768. 28:43we're not shopping at that online
  769. 28:44retailer anymore because they're using
  770. 28:46delivery Bots instead of couriers we're
  771. 28:48not supporting their department store
  772. 28:50until they ditch their self-checkouts
  773. 28:52and hire real cashiers again we're not
  774. 28:54buying prints from that art store until
  775. 28:56they ban AI art
  776. 28:59we need to take that attitude already
  777. 29:02and I'm so happy to see this there has
  778. 29:04been a lot of public banding together
  779. 29:06against AI for example the recent art
  780. 29:10station drama
  781. 29:11now art station is the industry standard
  782. 29:13artist portfolio platform where art
  783. 29:16directors go to find artists to work on
  784. 29:18projects
  785. 29:19but the site is completely flooded with
  786. 29:22no effort AI art leaving real artists
  787. 29:25unable to get any real exposure
  788. 29:28so not only do art session not ban the
  789. 29:31AR art but they automatically opted us
  790. 29:34all into having our Arts scraped by
  791. 29:36airbots and then said if we want to opt
  792. 29:39out we need to go into each one of our
  793. 29:42projects and manually add no AI tag
  794. 29:46for some of us that's literally years of
  795. 29:48Art
  796. 29:49it backfired though artists banded
  797. 29:51together and started flooding the site
  798. 29:53with anti-ai imagery to the point where
  799. 29:56they had to appoint moderators to
  800. 29:58prevent all the AI sentiment from
  801. 30:00dominating their trending sections
  802. 30:02many of us have also just straight up
  803. 30:04left the platform and starting to use
  804. 30:07art gram and new grounds instead these
  805. 30:10two portfolio sites have at least taken
  806. 30:12hard stances against AI
  807. 30:15I'll put links to those in the
  808. 30:17description
  809. 30:18this is what we need to do
  810. 30:21stop giving your business to companies
  811. 30:22that hate you and start supporting
  812. 30:24companies that are doing the ethical
  813. 30:25thing
  814. 30:27as a society we have the power to
  815. 30:30stigmatize generative art so that no
  816. 30:33employer thinks of replacing their staff
  817. 30:35with AI because they know their
  818. 30:37customers just won't stand for it
  819. 30:39we don't need government regulation or
  820. 30:41litigation to achieve that we just need
  821. 30:43to start appreciating human-made crafts
  822. 30:45and human effort more
  823. 30:47as a society we need to stop thinking in
  824. 30:49terms of money and convenience and start
  825. 30:51valuing people's skills and loving our
  826. 30:54fellow man enough not to make them
  827. 30:55destitute
  828. 30:58just because it's not your job on the
  829. 31:00line doesn't mean that it's okay
  830. 31:04resolve to pay a little bit extra if you
  831. 31:07know it's handcrafted or supporting mom
  832. 31:09and pop businesses or Freelancers let's
  833. 31:12start using hashtags highlighting our
  834. 31:14non-ai work hashtag no Ai and hashtag
  835. 31:17human artists are both becoming pretty
  836. 31:19popular
  837. 31:20maybe we can think of some other ones
  838. 31:22maybe hashtag handcrafted or hashtag
  839. 31:24node to AI Etc let's use these tags and
  840. 31:27support people using them
  841. 31:29lets all of us also agree to never use
  842. 31:32AI for commercial purposes
  843. 31:34you want to mess around the AI for lol's
  844. 31:36fine you want to use the our art on your
  845. 31:39personal profile or get the AR art
  846. 31:41printed for your own home also find in
  847. 31:44my opinion but don't use it in lieu of
  848. 31:46paying an artist if you would have paid
  849. 31:48an artist pay a damn artist
  850. 31:51and know that there are some artists who
  851. 31:52give the world a bad name you get these
  852. 31:55people who drag their ass over a canvas
  853. 31:57or tap a banana to a wall and call it
  854. 31:59art both of those are actually things by
  855. 32:02the way
  856. 32:03I know that there's a lot of
  857. 32:05pretentiousness in the art world and a
  858. 32:07lot of artists that are flaky don't
  859. 32:09deliver on time because they're taking a
  860. 32:11month off for mental health issues or
  861. 32:13they're not feeling inspired or whatever
  862. 32:15but there's also a lot of genuine
  863. 32:17artists who are reliable and skilled and
  864. 32:20they deserve to earn a living
  865. 32:22so I know that sometimes the sentiment
  866. 32:24is anti-artists
  867. 32:28but if they take artist jobs they'll
  868. 32:31take all jobs
  869. 32:33the robot Uprising is here but it's not
  870. 32:35how we picture it back in the 80s we
  871. 32:38thought it was going to look like this
  872. 32:41now we know it's a lot more Insidious
  873. 32:43let's guard against this not just for
  874. 32:45creatives
  875. 32:46but for anyone's job that's at stake
  876. 32:48it's love and appreciate each other and
  877. 32:50our efforts
  878. 32:52I'll tell you who I appreciate I
  879. 32:53appreciate my patrons and I appreciate
  880. 32:56you for watching and spreading this
  881. 32:58video
  882. 32:59and Now ladies and gentlemen I need to
  883. 33:02go and drink some water my mouth is so
  884. 33:04dry I'm not used to talking this much
  885. 33:07until the next one God bless
