The Hebrew Word That Changes Everything About Eve ✝️|Part 1 — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00Most people think Eve was created
- 0:01[music] to help Adam.
- 0:03That's not what Genesis says.
- 0:05In fact, [music] the original Hebrew
- 0:07gives Eve a title that is used for God
- 0:09himself. And once you see it, you'll
- 0:13never [music] read the creation story
- 0:14the same way again.
- 0:16>> Genesis 2:18 says, "I will make a helper
- 0:20suitable for him."
- 0:21>> And that's where the misunderstanding
- 0:23begins. Because when [music] we hear the
- 0:25word helper, we think assistant,
- 0:28servant, someone standing behind the
- 0:31main character. And that's why many
- 0:33people imagine Eve as weaker,
- 0:35secondary, almost an afterthought in
- 0:38God's design. [music]
- 0:39But the Hebrew text destroys that idea.
- 0:43The words God [music] actually uses are
- 0:45ezer k'negdo. And ezer doesn't mean
- 0:48assistant, it means rescuer, protector,
- 0:51strength in time of crisis. In fact,
- 0:54throughout the Old Testament, ezer is
- 0:56most often used for God [music] himself.
- 0:59The God who rescues, the God who
- 1:01delivers,
- 1:03the God who comes to help [music] his
- 1:04people in battle. In other words, ezer
- 1:07isn't the language of a servant, it's
- 1:09the language of a rescuer. Then comes
- 1:11the second word, k'negdo, face-to-face,
- 1:15a matching [music] counterpart, one
- 1:17standing opposite, not beneath, not
- 1:19behind, [music] not below, face-to-face.
- 1:22So God didn't look at Adam and say, "He
- 1:24needs an assistant." God looked at Adam
- 1:26and said, "He needs an ezer, a strength
- 1:29he does not possess by himself, [music]
- 1:31a counterpart capable of standing
- 1:33face-to-face with him in the mission God
- 1:35gave." God could have called Eve many
- 1:38things, servant, follower,
- 1:40>> [music]
- 1:41>> assistant. He chose none of them.
- 1:43Instead, he gave her a title [music]
- 1:45often reserved for himself, a rescuer,
- 1:48protector, a source of strength. And
- 1:51that [music] changes more than Eve. It
- 1:53changes how you read the entire garden.
- 1:55Because once you understand who Eve
- 1:57really was,
- 1:59one question refuses to go away. If she
- 2:02was merely weaker, why target [music]
- 2:03her? If she was merely secondary, why
- 2:06deceive her first? And if Eve truly
- 2:09[music] carried a role most people never
- 2:10saw, then why was she Satan's first
- 2:13target?
