The Gold Strategy That Took 8 Years to Perfect — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00I'd say this strategy came up after like
- 0:035 years. A lot of concept that I
- 0:05learned.
- 0:06>> On today's episode of Strategies, we
- 0:07have Victor, a gold trader from Canada
- 0:09who has been trading the gold markets
- 0:11for the past 8 years.
- 0:12>> To get a deep fundamental research at
- 0:14first. The 4-hour, then I'm going to
- 0:17look at [music] the 1-hour, 15 minutes.
- 0:19My first confluence will always be fib
- 0:21level. These are the main fib levels
- 0:24that I'll be monitoring.
- 0:25>> Victor's strategy is built around zones
- 0:27of confluence combining Fibonacci and
- 0:29other key levels to find the highest
- 0:30probability entries on gold.
- 0:32>> Simply right there, when [music] we
- 0:33pulled back into that area, stop loss
- 0:36was 27 pips. My take profit would have
- 0:39looked [music] like this. This trade was
- 0:40a 1:28, 1:29 risk to reward. At that
- 0:44point, I would have taken, let's say,
- 0:49>> Before we start this episode, I just
- 0:51want to let you know that you could have
- 0:52had access to watch this video a day
- 0:53earlier if you're a member of WeOwnPlus.
- 0:55And you get to see the full extended
- 0:56versions of these episodes. So, if you
- 0:58want to check it out, link is in the
- 1:00description below.
- 1:01>> Welcome back to another episode of
- 1:02Strategies. Today, we have a very
- 1:04special guest. He's a trader from
- 1:06Canada. He's been trading the gold
- 1:07markets for the past 8 years. A veteran
- 1:10gold trader. And he trades Fibonacci.
- 1:13So, this is Victor. Victor, welcome to
- 1:15the show.
- 1:15>> Nice to meet you.
- 1:16>> Happy to have you on today.
- 1:18Um I never actually met a Canadian
- 1:20trader, so this is the first time we're
- 1:22going to do a Strategies with a Canadian
- 1:23trader. So, your strategy, I said
- 1:25Fibonacci, but that's the main
- 1:27confluence. What is your strategy in a
- 1:29nutshell?
- 1:30>> It's going to be zones of confluences.
- 1:32So, yes, there's going to be always fib
- 1:34in the zone, but there's going to be
- 1:35lots of confluences as well.
- 1:37>> And this is only for gold. You only
- 1:39trade gold.
- 1:40>> This strategy is going to work for other
- 1:41assets, but I think it's going to be
- 1:43optimized for gold.
- 1:44>> Of course, you've been trading for 8
- 1:45years. This is not something that I'm
- 1:47I'm I'm sure you developed the first
- 1:49year.
- 1:49>> Nope.
- 1:50>> How did this strategy come to
- 1:51development over the 8 years that you've
- 1:53been trading?
- 1:53>> I'd say this strategy came up after like
- 1:565 years. So, it's going to be a mix of a
- 1:59lot of concept that I learned, kind of
- 2:01came up with that one.
- 2:03>> Cool. Well, uh where should we start?
- 2:05>> Hey guys, it's Hunter here. I just want
- 2:06to let you know that WyseOn has released
- 2:08a new channel called WyseOn Live, where
- 2:10we do live trading every single day,
- 2:11Monday through Friday for New York
- 2:13session. If you guys want to come trade
- 2:14with us, get a clear bias for the day,
- 2:16ask any questions, check the link in the
- 2:18description below. Now, let's get back
- 2:20to the video.
- 2:21>> We should start with step one. So, I
- 2:23always love to to get a deep fundamental
- 2:26research at first. So, first one is
- 2:28going to be like uh
- 2:30the funda
- 2:32research. What's happening overall in
- 2:35the current market? And it's going to be
- 2:36what type of market we're in. Are we in
- 2:39a fundamental driven market? Is it more
- 2:42like a fat consolidation where
- 2:44fundamental doesn't really matter? It's
- 2:46then going to affect how I trade on my
- 2:48technical side.
- 2:49>> And quick question, fundamental
- 2:50research.
- 2:51>> Yep.
- 2:51>> Uh I'm a technical trader, so I don't
- 2:53use too much fundamentals in my
- 2:54strategy. For people that want to learn
- 2:56fundamentals or they want to
- 2:58fundamental research, where do you do
- 3:01your fundamental research from?
- 3:02>> Uh like on gold, I'll try to to get a
- 3:05research first of all on the overall
- 3:07what's going on in the world.
- 3:09>> Mhm.
- 3:09>> Uh and also on the USD. So, basically
- 3:12like what's going on with the rates,
- 3:15potential rate cuts, potential rate
- 3:16hikes. I'm looking at the Fed Watch
- 3:18Tool. I know it's a bit like a typical,
- 3:21but X, there's good pages to follow on X
- 3:24that gets you the the right information
- 3:28literally in seconds.
- 3:30So, my favorite my favorite one would be
- 3:33news
- 3:36Squawk.
- 3:38Uh Squawk, I think it's called like
- 3:40that. And then, of course,
- 3:42for like
- 3:43the predetermined news, I'm going to use
- 3:46Forex Factory. So, these are going to be
- 3:48my three things that I'll watch for
- 3:50fundamentals.
- 3:51>> So, what is your technical?
- 3:52>> Technicals, all right. Uh so, my tech
- 3:55Well, first of all, I'll go on the chart
- 3:56starting on the medium-to-high time
- 3:58frame. So, I'd say like usually I'll
- 4:00start on the 4-hour depending on what
- 4:02structure I'm analyzing, but it's going
- 4:04to be on the 4-hour. I'll do my major
- 4:07levels on the 4-hours. My first
- 4:09confluence will always be
- 4:11the fib. Okay, so fib level. I'm looking
- 4:13at a lot of fib levels to be honest. So,
- 4:16first one is going to be the 38, the
- 4:17other one will be the 50,
- 4:2061,
- 4:2171,
- 4:2378,
- 4:2488,
- 4:26and then there's like the 100, but these
- 4:28are the main fib levels that I'll be
- 4:30monitoring on my charts. I'll have the
- 4:32moving averages. For the moving average,
- 4:35I'm only looking at two different ones.
- 4:38So, first one is going to be the SMA
- 4:40200, and the other one will be the EMA
- 4:44200. So, both 200s.
- 4:46Uh the reason I'm looking at both is
- 4:48that sometime one is going to react more
- 4:50than the other. Sometimes going to be
- 4:52the other one, but combined when both
- 4:55are at like the same level,
- 4:57>> [snorts]
- 4:57>> uh it creates a very nice confluence and
- 5:00price often has like a lot of difficulty
- 5:03to pass through, or once it's passed
- 5:05through, then we retest it, and then the
- 5:07the movement will continue. So, it's a
- 5:08nice confluence to add to my chart.
- 5:11Then, we'll have the classic key levels.
- 5:13So, just levels where the price has a
- 5:16tendency to react. So, there's going to
- 5:18be probably lots of wicks
- 5:21on that level. It could be wicks on both
- 5:23sides. It's going to be a key level,
- 5:24right? So, price has a tendency to react
- 5:27on it. Then, I'll have the psychological
- 5:29levels, which is something that not a
- 5:32lot of people are talking about, but
- 5:34>> No, I I've heard about them, but I never
- 5:36actually uh
- 5:37>> So, levels on gold are very strong. So,
- 5:39you've got like the the major hundreds.
- 5:41Gold is at 5,000. Well, 5,000 is a fat
- 5:46uh psychological level, but you can take
- 5:47let's say 5,200,
- 5:50which is like a good side level as well.
- 5:52So, every $100 move is going to be a
- 5:56good side level. Of course, the $1,000
- 5:59are going to be more strong. There's
- 6:01even sometimes I've saw levels like
- 6:043,333
- 6:07react very solidly for a long time. So,
- 6:10these are all levels that I'm keeping
- 6:12track of, and these are my main
- 6:14confluence
- 6:14>> for my my zones.
- 6:16>> Wow, okay.
- 6:17>> So, now all I do is find on my chart the
- 6:21zones where basically there's going to
- 6:23be
- 6:24the most confluences. And sometimes I
- 6:26can even add trend lines.
- 6:29>> I see.
- 6:30But as you were speaking earlier off off
- 6:32this camera, everything comes down to
- 6:34the fib level. So, if the fib levels
- 6:36aren't
- 6:37>> So, I I say
- 6:38>> matching your confluence and
- 6:39you can't take any trades.
- 6:40>> Yeah, all of these five confluences,
- 6:42I'll need first of all first of all the
- 6:45fib levels, which is like
- 6:46non-negotiables. It's always going to be
- 6:48on a fib level. And a key level as well,
- 6:51okay? So, out of these two, then the the
- 6:54best zones are going to be one that have
- 6:56also, let's say, a moving average
- 6:58passing through it or also a key level,
- 7:00also a side level, also a trend line.
- 7:01So, the more confluence you have, the
- 7:04more chance of the the zone have to
- 7:07work.
- 7:08>> You're starting off on the 4-hour. What
- 7:09are the other time frames that you're
- 7:11using?
- 7:11>> I'm using the 4-hour
- 7:14for like an overall direction of the
- 7:16market. Then I'm going to look at the
- 7:181-hour, then the 15 minutes. So, these
- 7:21are the two time frames that I'll use
- 7:23the most, to be honest, since I'm mainly
- 7:26a day trader. So, usually the structures
- 7:28I'm analyzing are on the 1-hour. And
- 7:30then for my entries, which is the last
- 7:32time frame I the last time frame I I
- 7:34use, is going to be the 5-minute. So,
- 7:36this is probably one of the most
- 7:38important one because I can have the
- 7:40best confluences, the best zone as
- 7:41possible on these three time frames. If
- 7:44my entry is not respected on the 5
- 7:46minutes, I'm just not going to take a
- 7:47trade.
- 7:47>> How are you setting your take profits?
- 7:50Are you setting it off standard RR or
- 7:52are you targeting key levels?
- 7:54>> I'm never targeting a fixed RR. I think
- 7:57the best way that my strategy works is
- 7:59going to be to target just another zone
- 8:01but on the opposite side. So, let's say
- 8:03a buy zone right there, right? So, I
- 8:05bought right there. I had the the entry
- 8:07model that I want. We'll We'll talk
- 8:08about it a bit later. But, I'm in a
- 8:10trade right now. Now, I'll just do my
- 8:12complete analysis but on the other way
- 8:14for some short levels. So, let's say I
- 8:16have a good potential short zone right
- 8:18there. Yes, there's maybe an obstacle
- 8:20right there but it's too close to my
- 8:21entry. I like I like to target a big
- 8:24risk reward. So, my first take profit
- 8:26will be simply my next short zone which
- 8:28is going to be this one. My stop loss is
- 8:29getting moved to break even really
- 8:31quick, to be honest. So, let's say
- 8:32usually I'll risk between 20 to 40 pips
- 8:35per trade. Let's say my entry is right
- 8:37there.
- 8:38Stop loss is right there. My first take
- 8:39profit is going to be maybe
- 8:44a nice obstacle, let's say right there.
- 8:47So, there is some good wicks right there
- 8:49so like maybe a moving average. So,
- 8:52there's odds that market is going to
- 8:53reverse at that point. Pretty simple.
- 8:55Once my trade reaches that, I'm not
- 8:58putting my stop to break even really
- 8:59because there's odds that it's just
- 9:01going to go retrace to my entry and then
- 9:02maybe come back. So, I just wait for a
- 9:04close above the closest obstacle. So,
- 9:08let's say my 5 minute candle will close
- 9:10right there. Then, I'll move my stop
- 9:12loss to break even.
- 9:14>> Is that a body close or wick close?
- 9:16>> A body close.
- 9:16>> Okay.
- 9:17>> Using my strategy, we get loads of break
- 9:19evens. So, I don't count them, let's say
- 9:21in the win rate. On a sample of 10
- 9:23trades, we'll get maybe six break even
- 9:27and then
- 9:27>> two two.
- 9:28>> You have all these fibonaccis here.
- 9:29Which ones are the most important when
- 9:30it comes to your trading?
- 9:31>> My favorite one
- 9:33is the 78.
- 9:35>> Okay.
- 9:35>> Right there. Reason is the 61 got so
- 9:38popular. I mean it still works really
- 9:40good and I I take a lot of trade on the
- 9:4261, but what usually happens is that a
- 9:45lot of retail trader will simply just
- 9:47enter on the 61 and their stop loss are
- 9:51going to be usually around that 78
- 9:53level. When the the there's more
- 9:55confluences on the 78 and the 61, then
- 9:58I'll just simply wait for that 78 and
- 10:01all my best trades were taken on that 78
- 10:03because lots of liquidity is always
- 10:05there and then basically everyone from
- 10:08the 61 gets stopped out. So it it
- 10:10usually uh reacts really quick and gives
- 10:12some very good trades.
- 10:13>> So Shadi, this is starting to make a lot
- 10:15of sense now. Before we take the
- 10:17strategy to the actual chart, two
- 10:18questions for you. One, how long are you
- 10:20usually in a trade with such a high RR?
- 10:23And two, do you leave runners?
- 10:25>> So first question,
- 10:27uh my my answer is it depends, okay?
- 10:30Some trades uh
- 10:31can take days. Some Some trades are
- 10:34going to be done in like an hour. So
- 10:36it's really going to depend on the
- 10:38volatility, where the market is going,
- 10:40uh but sometimes, let's say I enter a
- 10:42trade at 8:30 a.m., at 10:00 a.m. it's
- 10:46going to be done. But now uh for the
- 10:47second part, I'm never I'm never closing
- 10:50100% of my positions. Uh well, I rarely
- 10:53do.
- 10:54Uh the the reason is um that's why I
- 10:57analyze the fundamental that much is
- 10:59that I'm always going to leave a runner
- 11:00of my position, so it's going to be like
- 11:02a percentage of my position opened uh
- 11:05towards the the fundamental direction of
- 11:07the market. So let's say
- 11:09uh right now gold is fundamentally
- 11:11driven and it's supposed to be bullish
- 11:12and I managed to get a very clean buy,
- 11:15uh I would be dumb to just close
- 11:18everything at the first take profit
- 11:20because there's high odds that we're
- 11:21just going to continue up and up and up.
- 11:24What I like to do is, let's say my first
- 11:26take profit was there, if it's in the
- 11:27right fundamental direction, I'll close
- 11:30maybe 70 70% 75% of my position right
- 11:33there and just leave the rest to run.
- 11:36And what's nice with this is that once
- 11:39you got that, let's say 25% runner, um
- 11:42once you get to a nice short zone, uh
- 11:44your short is basically free because if
- 11:47you lose, it's basically covered by that
- 11:49runner.
- 11:50Uh and that's how I manage my position
- 11:52so that a lot of the time when I'm
- 11:54trading either countertrend or counter
- 11:57fundamentals, those trades are most
- 12:00likely going to be risk-free because I
- 12:02have this runner. Oh, yeah. Let's hop on
- 12:04the charts and see how this strategy
- 12:06works. Trading can be a lonely game, and
- 12:08that's why most traders fail. Wayon Plus

- 12:43to the episode. All right, Victor. So,
- 12:44now we're on the charts. Let's see some
- 12:46trade breakdowns.
- 12:48>> All right. So, uh we are on the 4-hour
- 12:51charts. This is a trade I took on March
- 12:5312, 2026. We're currently on the 4-hour.
- 12:56Like I said, the structure is like a a
- 12:58pretty good triangle. Major drop from
- 13:01gold right there. Uh it's still
- 13:03fundamentally It was still fundamentally
- 13:05bearish with the last drop right there.
- 13:07I was looking for a continuation down.
- 13:10Uh so, I was mainly looking at short
- 13:12levels. So, the structure we'll analyze
- 13:14will be uh this one right there. So, I
- 13:16was interested in retracement from that
- 13:19uh downside level right there and maybe
- 13:21this small downside right there. You can
- 13:23see I have our 1-hour 200 uh EMA and
- 13:27SMA. We are currently sitting in
- 13:32on a a good 50 fib. We took some major
- 13:35liquidity right there.
- 13:36I mean, after that, the next liquidity
- 13:38would be like further up. So, since we
- 13:40got back below the 50 and this level, I
- 13:44was now interesting interested to short.
- 13:47Now, I just need to go on the smaller
- 13:49time frame since I have my main bias.
- 13:51So, I'll go on the 15 minutes and do my
- 13:54work. So, the structure I'm analyzing on
- 13:56the 15 will be this one. All I'm looking
- 13:59for is a continuation on the downside.
- 14:01So, I'll start with my fib. To place
- 14:04your fib, it's pretty easy. You need to
- 14:05find the last impulse, which in that
- 14:08case there's going to be two. Okay? So,
- 14:10first one would be that's one from
- 14:12there, but as you can see, we've kind of
- 14:14retraced it all the way. So, we can
- 14:16start our fib from this one actually.
- 14:20So, I'll put my fib right there. We are
- 14:22currently on a nice level. We've got 61
- 14:25fib reacted pretty well on the 15
- 14:27minutes. We've got the 15 minute 200
- 14:30moving averages. On the 1 hour when we
- 14:32were there, there was the 200 SMA also.
- 14:35We kind of have a nice little key level
- 14:38right there on the 61. So, all those
- 14:40weeks from there
- 14:42this right there. So, this was a good
- 14:45short level. I start trading at around
- 14:488:00 a.m. Eastern. So, this was the
- 14:50chart that I woke up to. Okay? So, the
- 14:52best entry probably would have been on
- 14:54that, but it was at 5:45 6:00 a.m. So,
- 14:57there was no possible entry for me. So,
- 14:59I was waiting for just a good way to
- 15:01enter in the short to just continue this
- 15:04start of the downside movement. So, now
- 15:06I go on the 5 minute to find my
- 15:08potential entry.
- 15:10I go that I see that now I can also
- 15:13trace a smaller fib right there.
- 15:16So, from there
- 15:18to there.
- 15:19And now, like the best zone possible
- 15:21would be just maybe a retest of around
- 15:24that
- 15:25grab this liquidity right there. It's a
- 15:27retest of my major 61 just some good
- 15:31structure right there.
- 15:33So now I'll just wait for price to go
- 15:35back up and then see if I can get my
- 15:39entry criteria to just jump in the
- 15:41trade.
- 15:49For now price made let's say a new low.
- 15:52So now I got to switch my fib.
- 15:55My fib is now bigger, but it's going to
- 15:57be the same thing, right? So now it's
- 15:59going to be a 78 zone instead of a 61.
- 16:02>> Which is your favorite zone, right?
- 16:03>> Yeah, which is my favorite zone because
- 16:04now probably everyone jumped on that 61
- 16:07with that small little
- 16:09liquidity right there. Liquidity was
- 16:11grabbed. The better zone was that major
- 16:15fib 61
- 16:17retest, but now I need what I called a
- 16:20structure. Okay, so a structure is
- 16:22always on the 5 minutes. It's my entry
- 16:24criteria that I need on every trade.
- 16:27It's simple. It's just three times three
- 16:30candles on the 5 minutes that reacts on
- 16:33my level. Okay, so very similar to these
- 16:35candles right there. So I just need
- 16:37three candles on the 5 minute that just
- 16:39tells me that my level is holding that
- 16:41my level is giving reaction.
- 16:44So I already have my first two. So this
- 16:46one and that one.
- 16:50I can wait for the third one. Third one
- 16:52is right there. Now all I need is to
- 16:54find a valid entry
- 16:56with a good risk. If you look if I want
- 16:59to enter right after that
- 17:01level right there. It's too big. All
- 17:02right, I usually like my stop loss
- 17:04between
- 17:0520 to 40 pips. So I'll need just a
- 17:07retracement maybe around that zone 35.
- 17:11The best one would be like a retest of
- 17:13that small 71 with that liquidity right
- 17:15there. We be risking like 26 29 pips.
- 17:20So, I'm just waiting for a good
- 17:22retracement. Now, price retraced a bit.
- 17:26My entry was right there. Okay, so on
- 17:28that 60 that 71 right there, retesting
- 17:31that major liquidity right there. Well,
- 17:33major maybe that's small. So, my entry
- 17:35was simply right there when we pull back
- 17:38into that area. My risk was
- 17:42entry was right there. My stop loss is
- 17:44always just a bit above my
- 17:47my third wick. So, like that. Entry was
- 17:50like that.
- 17:51Stop loss was I think it was about 28 27
- 17:55pips. So, like that. And then, my take
- 17:58profit
- 17:59we just need to do like I said my
- 18:01analysis on the other sides of things.
- 18:04So, now I want to trace my fib
- 18:07my next fib for potential buy zones,
- 18:09which in this case
- 18:11we will start our fib from this one
- 18:14probably right there.
- 18:16Now, as we can see we've got a nice 61
- 18:18fib, a nice little retest zone right
- 18:22there. So, a nice key level. So, this
- 18:24would be my next buy zone. Okay, so
- 18:26around that level. So, yes it's going to
- 18:29be a zone that I'll look for buys, but
- 18:31it's also going to be my take profit
- 18:33one. Okay? So, now [snorts] my take
- 18:35profit would have looked like this. So,
- 18:37in this case this trade was a 1 to 8 1
- 18:40to 9 risk to reward. And then, let's
- 18:43just see if things are going well.
- 18:46We tapped into the the take profit zone
- 18:48pretty quick. I don't remember if I
- 18:50closed it like that or if I just waited
- 18:52for really complete the full take
- 18:54profit. What I did was leave a runner
- 18:56for sure since we were in the right
- 18:58direction of the market. My stop loss
- 19:00was put to break even once we closed
- 19:02that candle. So, the big red candle you
- 19:04can see right there. So, once I had a
- 19:06close like right below that first
- 19:08obstacle, which was these candles,
- 19:11my my stop loss was moves to break even
- 19:14just like that. And then my main take
- 19:16profit was that and then we just wait.
- 19:22So now I probably would have taken let's
- 19:24say 60% 75% of my take profit.
- 19:28Let's say I was in like 10 lots. I would
- 19:30have closed let's say seven, leave
- 19:32three. And then
- 19:35you can just go on the higher time frame
- 19:37and do a bigger analysis because on
- 19:40runners I love to have a way bigger take
- 19:43profits.
- 19:45So in this case I would have traced my
- 19:46fib from this major swing like that. So
- 19:51from there
- 19:52to there.
- 19:54And then let's say my next take profit
- 19:56for my major runner would have been that
- 19:5761 right there. We've got a 61.
- 20:00If you look on the on the left there's
- 20:02some major wicks near that point. You've
- 20:04got that psychological level that 5.1k
- 20:07right there.
- 20:09So
- 20:10I'll have let's say a buy zone at this
- 20:12point also.
- 20:15And also I'll just leave the runner
- 20:17until then.
- 20:19If price can just go down go down go
- 20:21down.
- 20:22>> Wow.
- 20:22>> Then at that point I would have taken
- 20:24let's say out of those three lots I
- 20:26would have closed two and then leave
- 20:28just another one running until I find
- 20:31that either the fundamental has switched
- 20:34or just that I lost too many trades
- 20:38let's say trying to buy. So I need to
- 20:39close some partials of that trade. So
- 20:42that was this trade.
- 20:43>> I claim that.
- 20:44>> Yeah, if you go on my Instagram I have
- 20:46all my trades taken in my stories. So it
- 20:49was March 12. You can see a
