- 0:00it's winter 1989 Daytona Beach Florida
- 0:03is a safe quiet city where most
- 0:06homicides come from the drug trade the
- 0:08cocaine Cowboys on December 13th
- 0:12investigators find the body of Richard
- 0:14Mallory a store owner when Richard
- 0:17Mallory's body was found he was covered
- 0:20with a bit of carpet and palm fronds his
- 0:23belt was done up his trousers were done
- 0:26up his trouser pockets had been turned
- 0:28inside-out he had been robbed and shot
- 0:31to death with a 22 caliber pistol the
- 0:34first bullet entered from the right side
- 0:37of his body and it went on through his
- 0:39lung the second bullet went through this
- 0:43part of his body as well everybody
- 0:46thought this was just another
- 0:47drug-related homicide we didn't have a
- 0:51clue as to how big this really was or
- 0:53how important it was to so many people
- 0:55there was no evidence that linked anyone
- 0:57to that death the bulk of what we know
- 1:00about the malory homicide and how it
- 1:02occurred is actually through Aileen
- 1:05Wuornos with Aileen Wuornos I always
- 1:09looked at it as a stack of dominoes if
- 1:12you will forward
- 1:14throughout her life from being a young
- 1:17child to an adolescent to the
- 1:20hitchhiking prostitute to everything
- 1:23that came before her execution Aileen
- 1:30Wuornos was born in Michigan in 1956 she
- 1:34was the daughter of a woman called Diane
- 1:37who had two children Eileen and Keith
- 1:40and she abandoned them twice in their
- 1:43first two years of life my name is sue
- 1:47Russell author of a book about Eileen
- 1:49Wallace's life of crime
- 1:52ayane's father was a convicted sex
- 1:55offender and rapist
- 1:56so when Diane abandoned the two babies
- 2:00they were raised by her grandparents
- 2:02with Diane's siblings Lori and Barry it
- 2:08was a very dysfunctional family her
- 2:10grandfather he was an alcoholic it was
- 2:13very hard on Eileen in teeth and he
- 2:17would whip them with a leather belt
- 2:21the neighborhood kids they would hit
- 2:23screaming from across the yard she was
- 2:30my friend when we were teenagers and
- 2:31she's not all malicious you know like
- 2:34people say I've gone back khun's I mean
- 2:36we're nurses best friend she loved Coney
- 2:38Island's I'd love to go see movies and
- 2:40things like dad she's very beautiful she
- 2:42had perfectly blonde hair and she always
- 2:44had her tan took care of herself who
- 2:46loved her white teeth always was a nut
- 2:48ball brushing her teeth constantly and
- 2:50when she smiled she had the most
- 2:51beautiful smile kidding hell but it's
- 2:53just when she drank all sudden that
- 2:55smile returned until summer you wouldn't
- 2:57want to know at the mall
- 2:58I ain't childhood was so troubled
- 3:06that by the age of 11 she had her first
- 3:08sexual experience and she was willing to
- 3:12prostitute herself for a packet of
- 3:15cigarettes and she was known in the
- 3:18neighborhood for this activity she was
- 3:22incredibly starved for love and
- 3:24attention and friendship and the way she
- 3:27went about getting it of course was the
- 3:29complete opposite something that was
- 3:32going to bring friendship and love into
- 3:34her life at age 13 Wuornos is rumored to
- 3:38have been raped and becomes pregnant it
- 3:43was a guy that lived in the neighborhood
- 3:45and he raped her and she got pregnant
- 3:48they put her an unwed home and nobody
- 3:51believed there would have anything to do
- 3:53with there none of her friends they all
- 3:54turned against her was awful
- 3:56[Music]
- 3:58Islands Sun was swept away for adoption
- 4:01the parents were furious with her she
- 4:06began running away camping in the woods
- 4:08and living rough prostituting herself
- 4:12for money I don't know when she went out
- 4:15with her customers she had so many of
- 4:18them that beat on her and stuff like
- 4:20that but you could tell by looking at
- 4:21her face that she had a black eye or
- 4:23something she would steal from stores
- 4:26run out with unpaid bills and she
- 4:31basically started to become known for
- 4:34the local law enforcement she was sent
- 4:36to juvenile hall a couple of times I
- 4:38believe that's the only way she could
- 4:41eat she wasn't allowed back in the home
- 4:45at the age of 20 Wuornos leaves Michigan
- 4:48for good and hitchhikes to Florida
- 4:50Eileen's life did not improve when she
- 4:53got to Florida she got arrested for
- 4:55forging checks and armed robbery she
- 4:58actually got married to a 69 year old we
- 5:00got club president it only lasted nine
- 5:03weeks before he got an annulled he
- 5:05claimed that I'm lean beat him with his
- 5:07own cane she had no friends no real
- 5:10relationships her life was empty until
- 5:13one fateful day in July of 1986
- 5:19[Music]
- 5:21item almost met the first true love of
- 5:24her life
- 5:24tyria Joleen more Navarre in Florida and
- 5:28the attraction was in the idiot and thus
- 5:32began a very intense relationship they
- 5:36were together for a half years all told
- 5:38when they met Tyra Moore was a 24 year
- 5:42old hotel maid ty became ailee's whole
- 5:45world Eileen had been treated terribly
- 5:47her whole life now she had a chance to
- 5:50be happy it was an incredibly meaningful
- 5:53relationship to her she depended heavily
- 5:56on ty Aileen didn't one power to lift a
- 5:59finger
- 6:00so while Tyra stayed home Aileen earned
- 6:02money with sex work I aim is desperate
- 6:07not to be left by Ty her fear of
- 6:10abandonment was so profound her only way
- 6:13of dealing with it was to try to have
- 6:15money
- 6:19I mean she just had to hook and hook and
- 6:22hook and she had been raped so many
- 6:23times and she just decided to fight back
- 6:27what happened that night was her client
- 6:30Richard Mallory and with the other
- 6:32murders depends on who you believe she's
- 6:36attacked by Mallory trauma gets
- 6:39activated and so when you look at those
- 6:42other crimes it is entirely reasonable
- 6:45that she could be perceiving a
- 6:49self-defense
- 6:50I think Eileen was driven by have
- 6:54mistaken belief that having money would
- 6:58stop ty from leaving her I truly believe
- 7:00that was the driving force behind all
- 7:03these murders
- 7:06[Music]
