- 0:27alabani in march 2004
- 0:30christopher went to a trip and while
- 0:33away
- 0:34christopher received an email from john
- 0:36parker's account
- 0:38scolding him for failing classes at
- 0:41hudson valley community college
- 0:43in new york in the message john and
- 0:46peter complained to their son
- 0:48his father wrote you just left and we
- 0:51can't believe our eyes
- 0:52as i look at your interim great report
- 0:56you know what they say three strikes and
- 0:58you are out
- 1:00explain yourself several days later
- 1:03christopher replied in a message to his
- 1:05father blaming the community college
- 1:08registrar he wrote but obviously
- 1:11they are incorrect my lowest crate that
- 1:14i got on anything was a b
- 1:16on a physics test don't jump to
- 1:18conclusions i'm fine
- 1:20the relationship between the parents and
- 1:22their son
- 1:24was getting bitter day by day there had
- 1:27been tension between
- 1:28christopher and his parents about money
- 1:31including over loans
- 1:33christopher had taken out to pay his
- 1:35tuition
- 1:36and to finance his new jeep by this time
- 1:39christopher had already earned
- 1:40readmission
- 1:41to the university of rochester with a
- 1:44forged
- 1:45transcript from his previous college
- 1:48after the fall 2003 semester
- 1:50university of rochester officials had
- 1:53forced
- 1:54christopher to withdraw because of poor
- 1:56grades
- 1:57when he was readmitted the following
- 1:59year he took out a loan
- 2:01for 31 000 to pay his expenses
- 2:05and at that time he faked his father's
- 2:07signature
- 2:08but this fact was not known to his
- 2:11parents
- 2:12christopher was attempting to pay his
- 2:14fall 2004 tuition fees with the loan
- 2:16money
- 2:18earlier in the fall he falsely told his
- 2:20parents that the university of rochester
- 2:23was covering his tuition because a
- 2:25professor had misplaced his final exam
- 2:28from the previous fall semester then one
- 2:31day
- 2:32peter confronted his son about his
- 2:34dishonesty
- 2:35in an email he wrote did you forge my
- 2:39signature as a co-signer
- 2:41what the hell are you doing you should
- 2:43have called me to discuss
- 2:44it and i'm going to tell them i'm not to
- 2:47be on it
- 2:48as a co-signer the following day peter
- 2:51was notified
- 2:52that christopher had also obtained a
- 2:54line of credit from citibank to finance
- 2:57the jeep
- 2:58he bought for himself again using his
- 3:01father's name
- 3:03as a co-signatory peter once again wrote
- 3:06to his son
- 3:08who had not answered his parents phone
- 3:10calls in weeks
- 3:12he wrote i want you to know that if you
- 3:15abuse my credit again
- 3:16i will be forced to file forgery
- 3:18affidavits in order to disclaim
- 3:20liability
- 3:22and that applies to the citibank college
- 3:24loan if you attempt to
- 3:25reactivate it or use my credit to obtain
- 3:29any other loan the email concluded
- 3:33we may be disappointed with you but your
- 3:35mother and i still love you and care
- 3:37about your future
- 3:39but christopher on the other hand was
- 3:42not happy with his parents
- 3:45and what happened next will shock you
- 3:49on november 15 2004 peter didn't show up
- 3:53to work at the supreme court
- 3:55in new york like he did every morning
- 3:58peter worked in supreme court in albany
- 4:01new york
- 4:02but on 15 november 2004
- 4:05he didn't show up to the work like he
- 4:08did every morning
- 4:10the court officer that works with peter
- 4:12at the courthouse
- 4:13decided that would be a good idea just
- 4:16to go over to peter's house and check on
- 4:19him
- 4:20because peter was very punctual towards
- 4:23his work
- 4:24and he never got absent at his work
- 4:28the court officer michael arrived at
- 4:30peter's home
- 4:32the officer knew that something terrible
- 4:34had happened
- 4:36but he had yet to know that exactly what
- 4:40he will be dealing with
- 4:42once he went inside peter's house he
- 4:45encountered a bloodbath
- 4:47he took another step inside and right
- 4:50there
- 4:50on the right side he saw 52 year old
- 4:54peter's
- 4:55lifeless body michael immediately called
- 4:58for backup
- 4:59and paramedics backup officers and
- 5:03paramedics arrived at the home
- 5:05and made their way upstairs and into the
- 5:08master bedroom
- 5:10and this is where the first responders
- 5:13encountered
- 5:14peter's wife john who was clinging
- 5:18to her life right next to jon
- 5:21laid a three foot long axe
- 5:25before jon was rushed to the hospital
- 5:27investigators
- 5:28asked if she knew who did this to her
- 5:31and when police asked
- 5:32if their son christopher did this she
- 5:35shook her head
- 5:36up and down which meant a yes
- 5:39the albany county medical examiner
- 5:42performed an autopsy on peter to get a
- 5:44better idea of
- 5:46what exactly happened in the house that
- 5:49fateful morning
- 5:50[Music]
- 5:51medical examiner counted 16 wounds
- 5:54to peter's head with an x
- 5:58immediately after discovering peter and
- 6:01john the police began their
- 6:02investigation to find out who could have
- 6:05done this
- 6:06to the couple and the police find out
- 6:09that peter and jon have two sons
- 6:11christopher
- 6:12and jonathan police quickly ruled out
- 6:15jonathan
- 6:17as a potential suspect in the case
- 6:19because he was serving in the military
- 6:22miles away from his parents home so it
- 6:25was impossible
- 6:26that jonathan was involved so once
- 6:29jonathan was ruled out as a potential
- 6:32suspect
- 6:33police quickly shift their attention to
- 6:36christopher
- 6:37police were also seeing christopher as
- 6:40a potential suspect because he had a
- 6:43history of stealing money from his
- 6:44parents
- 6:45and opening up lines of credit without
- 6:48their knowledge
- 6:49forging their signatures and much more
- 6:53police also found out that christopher
- 6:56had even
- 6:56faked two burglaries at his parents
- 6:59house
- 7:00and sold the stolen items like computers
- 7:03and laptops
- 7:04on ebay police decide to question
- 7:07christopher about his whereabouts
- 7:10the night of the murder he told police
- 7:12that he was at school
- 7:14the entire night but the police got
- 7:18their hands on surveillance video
- 7:20that showed christopher leaving school
- 7:22in his yellow jeep
- 7:25police examined the route christopher
- 7:27would have taken from his school
- 7:29to his parents house the route requires
- 7:32passing through two tall stations police
- 7:35contact the toll stations and collect
- 7:38the tall tickets that were passed out
- 7:41they sent the tickets off to the crime
- 7:43lab in hopes that it would reveal
- 7:46valuable forensic evidence the results
- 7:49came back
- 7:50and the crime lab was able to obtain a
- 7:52full dna profile
- 7:54of christopher on one of the toll
- 7:57tickets
- 7:58proving that he actually crossed the
- 8:00tall
- 8:01heading to his parents house that night
- 8:03police also came to know about
- 8:06that the poco family had an alarm system
- 8:09that was disarmed the night of the
- 8:11attack with the master code
- 8:14the phone line had also been cut
- 8:17the only person outside of peter and jon
- 8:20that would have known the alarm code was
- 8:23their son
- 8:24christopher christopher was arrested
- 8:27for the murder of his father peter an
- 8:30attempted murder of his mother joan
- 8:33now moving on to jon as i've already
- 8:35told you
- 8:36that she originally pointed out her son
- 8:38as the attacker
- 8:40but when she fully recovered from her
- 8:42injuries she stood behind her son
- 8:45and she believed that christopher was
- 8:47hundred percent innocent
- 8:51but the amount of forensic and
- 8:53circumstantial evidences
- 8:55were overwhelming christopher's trial
- 8:59began
- 8:59on june 27 2006
- 9:03and on december 12 2006
- 9:06judge sentenced christopher to 50 years
- 9:09to life on each count
- 9:11totaling a minimum of 50 years in prison
- 9:17the judge said i fear very much what
- 9:19happened in the early morning hours of
- 9:21november 15
- 9:23is something that could happen again
- 9:27and one of the most controversial murder
- 9:29trials in the new york state's history
- 9:32seemed to have reached its resolution
- 9:36but due to christopher and his mother's
- 9:38assertion
- 9:40of his innocence what has not been fully
- 9:43resolved is whether a seemingly
- 9:45upstanding student is guilty of
- 9:48the unthinkable ending the lives of the
- 9:51very people who gave him
- 9:53his own what are your thoughts
- 9:57on this case tell me in the comments
