- 0:13you know one of the things one of the
- 0:16most interesting things about things the
- 0:19research that we're doing is I think the
- 0:23book was called paradox of the decline
- 0:28of human happiness and they started it
- 0:33did sort of they started doing surveys
- 0:35on people's sense of well-being and
- 0:37happiness and consistently women scored
- 0:42higher across the board right in the US
- 0:46and Canada consistently higher than that
- 0:49all the way across until the seventies
- 0:51right and the male happiness started to
- 0:55taper off female happiness I just went
- 1:00in a crossed they were always more happy
- 1:03than men and then it crossed that line
- 1:06and now they are less happy than men
- 1:08everybody's less happy overall but women
- 1:12are now less happy for the first time
- 1:14since we started since we started asking
- 1:18the question and I you know I honestly
- 1:30think that woman's biggest problem in
- 1:36the 60s and 70s it was not oppression it
- 1:39was boredom and a feeling of
- 1:41purposelessness because prior to that
- 1:44keeping power still happy family taking
- 1:4714 hours a day and it was 14 hours a day
- 1:50of heavy work not you know like dust is
- 1:54heavy work and your husband wasn't there
- 1:57to help you because he was working 60
- 2:00hours a week you know paving roads or
- 2:03working in a factory
- 2:05and that's if you were lucky unlucky you
- 2:09know your husband was working paving
- 2:11roads you were working at a factory and
- 2:13your children or in your mother's care
- 2:16for that eight hours a day and so the
- 2:22unlucky on this where ours had no choice
- 2:26the courthouse wife had no experience we
- 2:33had no experience of having no choice
- 2:36right because women have always had the
- 2:39choice to find an interest to to invest
- 2:45like I never went to Emerson I found
- 2:49something to chase you in my passion I I
- 2:54have always went to get a job but I have
- 2:56always found things that I enjoy doing
- 2:58often very gender subversive things like
- 3:02installing Corrie and you know rewiring
- 3:04my light fixtures you know I have I've
- 3:09always been able to pursue interests
- 3:13whatever interests and women in
- 3:16assistants Evans really different they
- 3:17were always able to pursue that they
- 3:20weren't necessarily able to have a
- 3:23career that paid them to do that but if
- 3:25having a career if the problem with no
- 3:28name was that you were not fulfilled
- 3:31right then what's money was money have
- 3:36to do with that
- 3:38it was plenty of ways the you just
- 3:41volunteer just go do you fix up you
- 3:44don't
- 3:45uninstall your old toilet no one right
- 3:49if you want to if you really want to
- 3:51challenge the stereotypes right learn
- 3:56how to install a toilet and then install
- 3:58one it's you know you don't have to be a
- 4:00plumber to do that you just just do it
- 4:02right women have always been able to do
- 4:06that they wanted something more
- 4:09something more than they wanted they
- 4:12wanted recognition and respect and kudos
- 4:16and applause and flattery and all kinds
- 4:19of other things too right and part of
- 4:22the reason why they had that
- 4:24hole-in-ones was because men have
- 4:26amazing lives he's given them
- 4:30dishwashers vacuum cleaners right
- 4:41they've given them all these washing
- 4:45machines and dryers and and all even
- 4:48have to do your laundry and a cauldron
- 4:50in the yard and bring it with other
- 4:52laundry people you know you had a
- 4:53washing machine that you just stuck it
- 4:55in there and turn it on and went away
- 4:57right right so men had worked so hard to
- 5:07provide a life of ease or their wives
- 5:10and their keep them by saying I'm Gordon
- 5:15it's your fault you're oppressing me
- 5:17right I don't feel fulfilled I don't
- 5:20have anything to do and because of that
- 5:23you're an so I mean it's it's i
- 5:28just died
- 5:29we find it difficult to consider the
- 5:34women of the solution is to have been
- 5:36oppressed to think were they limited in
- 5:39their choices yes men have always been
- 5:41late and men are still way more than
- 5:43their choice but they were depressed and
- 5:47I don't think men are oppressed
- 5:49not unless somebody is going to
- 5:51prisoners right for an unjust reason
- 5:57you're not being oppressed oppression is
- 6:00shave your legs
- 6:01socially shave your legs are crushing
- 6:03the fact that they make ladies pants
- 6:06with pockets too small for their cell
- 6:07phone it's not a crash this is a kind of
- 6:09oppression if I see a lot of feminists
- 6:12bitching about online right they
- 6:14consider that oppression is you consider
- 6:16going to jail with low due process
- 6:18because your wife charged to the
- 6:20domestic assault they don't consider
- 6:22that oppression that they can select
- 6:23male privilege of hiring
- 6:29you
