  2. 0:15welcome back to debaters
  3. 0:16season two debate game trip for high
  4. 0:18school students here
  5. 0:19in vietnam produced and broadcasted by
  6. 0:22vtv7 the national educational channel of
  7. 0:24vietnam
  8. 0:25and british university vietnam
  9. 0:28i'm your host dustin chavier
  10. 0:31today this debate is very very exciting
  11. 0:35we have now
  12. 0:36entered the quarter finals yes we had
  13. 0:39six debates before
  14. 0:40six finalists quarterfinals are
  15. 0:42happening now the teams behind me
  16. 0:45very very fluent in english they're
  17. 0:47experienced
  18. 0:48they know how the format is and today
  19. 0:50the expectations for them
  20. 0:51are super super high
  21. 0:55and to make it even better the judges
  22. 0:58will pick
  23. 0:58somebody from the quarterfinals to move
  24. 1:00on so
  25. 1:02win or lose it's very important you guys
  26. 1:05do the best you possibly can
  27. 1:07because there will be a wild card that
  28. 1:08the judges do pick so keep that in mind
  29. 1:10so
  30. 1:11if you don't do well today it's going to
  31. 1:14be problematic so please please
  32. 1:16a games from all of you in today's
  33. 1:18motion that we regret
  34. 1:20the rise of choice feminism
  35. 1:24yes we are discussing feminism a topic
  36. 1:27that is widely discussed in western
  37. 1:29countries and i believe it's growing in
  38. 1:31vietnam
  39. 1:32i will be learning more about that today
  40. 1:34from our contestants behind me
  41. 1:36without further ado let me please
  42. 1:37welcome the contestants
  43. 1:41it's a pretty challenging motion when we
  44. 1:44have to research
  45. 1:45a lot about feminism and how it's going
  46. 1:48to work
  47. 1:49in the modern society so i think that
  48. 1:52we are pretty well prepared for the
  49. 1:54upcoming debate
  50. 1:56and we we hope that we will bring a high
  51. 1:59quality debate
  52. 2:00in the quad final
  53. 2:06the motion about regretting the the rise
  54. 2:09of choice feminism is
  55. 2:10a really vague motion and it's more
  56. 2:12relevant in the status quo right now
  57. 2:14so the challenge for proposition which
  58. 2:16is our team
  59. 2:18is that the team has to prove why the
  60. 2:20rise of choice feminism is harmful to
  61. 2:22the society
  62. 2:23most especially to feminist movement
  63. 2:25which lobbies the idea of equality at
  64. 2:27the same time
  65. 2:29women's representation or good
  66. 2:30representation in this the status quo
  67. 2:33so i believe it's a challenging motion
  68. 2:35at the same time it's a very interesting
  69. 2:37motion because they
  70. 2:38there are a lot of doors for
  71. 2:41each team to argue upon
  72. 2:45throughout the last match we've been
  73. 2:47able to learn
  74. 2:49from the feedbacks by the judges to
  75. 2:52improve
  76. 2:52our flexibility with our case to be able
  77. 2:54to develop it more throughout the
  78. 2:56first and second and third speeches
  79. 2:59[Music]
  80. 3:02while it is a very interesting and very
  81. 3:04uh trendy motion
  82. 3:06very relevant to today's issues i
  83. 3:08personally believe that
  84. 3:10since choice feminism isn't quite a very
  85. 3:12popular ideal
  86. 3:14within the mainstream feminism it would
  87. 3:16be extremely hard to debate
  88. 3:22because it's like quite a final it's
  89. 3:24very important for them to introduce
  90. 3:25next round
  91. 3:26so we prepare for them for two things
  92. 3:29third is on the
  93. 3:30ideas and the second thing is their
  94. 3:32performance
  95. 3:33because like feminism and feminist women
  96. 3:35are extremely important and
  97. 3:37controversial
  98. 3:38so we want them to give the best of
  99. 3:40their performance
  100. 3:41on their ideas and we make sure that
  101. 3:43they can create change
  102. 3:45and create some impact when they
  103. 3:47actually present this kind of idea to
  104. 3:49everyone on the television
  105. 3:54contestants i'm going to walk down here
  106. 3:57how are you guys feeling the
  107. 3:58quarterfinals yeah
  108. 4:00we have true happiness uh of that
  109. 4:03so yeah happy okay so feminism is
  110. 4:06feminism popular in vietnam
  111. 4:08yes i can say okay is this topic
  112. 4:10interesting for you guys
  113. 4:11yes yes so interesting good when it's
  114. 4:14interesting you have a lot more to
  115. 4:16discuss
  116. 4:16and hopefully a bit more passionate
  117. 4:19about it as well
  118. 4:20yes so let me walk over to the other
  119. 4:22side gentlemen
  120. 4:23is this an interesting topic for you
  121. 4:24guys it is quite fascinating
  122. 4:27we have discussed quite a lot on this in
  123. 4:29this tournament
  124. 4:31before the tournament and very possibly
  125. 4:33after this as well
  126. 4:34yes because in western countries it's
  127. 4:37widely discussed for
  128. 4:38many reasons but for you guys today i'm
  129. 4:40very curious to hear what you have to
  130. 4:42say
  131. 4:42so thank you and now we can't have a
  132. 4:46debate without our lovely
  133. 4:48[Music]
  134. 4:54judges
  135. 4:58so without further ado let's get started
  136. 5:00with the first debate
  137. 5:02so from the proposition team team choco
  138. 5:05chips please welcome no fan gwen jay
  139. 5:12to my left the opposition team team th x
  140. 5:15please welcome nolae
  141. 5:20all right i'm excited i'm really really
  142. 5:22excited but i'm going to start over here
  143. 5:23with the proposition team
  144. 5:26i was told in the casting round
  145. 5:29that they beat you in the casting round
  146. 5:31is that true yes
  147. 5:32in route two two in round two yes
  148. 5:35so how do you feel debating them in the
  149. 5:38quarterfinals
  150. 5:40um i feel a bit nervous but i think i
  151. 5:43can know it
  152. 5:44you can nail it ooh i like that i like
  153. 5:46that and over here
  154. 5:48since you guys already beat them in the
  155. 5:51casting round
  156. 5:52but now we're in the quarterfinals do
  157. 5:53you think you can beat them again
  158. 5:55i know if i perform to my best i can
  159. 5:58beat them again
  160. 5:59but there's a lot of outside factors in
  161. 6:02terms of the motion itself
  162. 6:04has changed quite a bit and we've had a
  163. 6:06lot of preparation since then so
  164. 6:09it could go either way okay so for the
  165. 6:11viewers at home this debate is more
  166. 6:13heated than you would actually
  167. 6:14think so the first round you guys are
  168. 6:16familiar but you have three minutes to
  169. 6:18deliver your speech
  170. 6:19poi is not open whatsoever proposition
  171. 6:23team you will be going first
  172. 6:24do you guys understand yes all right
  173. 6:28let the debate begin
  174. 6:34it's okay to stay weak because that's
  175. 6:36your choice the opposition here is
  176. 6:38tries to tell us that but we are here to
  177. 6:40say no we are here to regret the rise of
  178. 6:43choice feminism
  179. 6:44there are two burdens that the
  180. 6:46proposition is here to prove
  181. 6:48first the rise of choice feminism has
  182. 6:50created fundamental
  183. 6:51harms on women and the feminist movement
  184. 6:54second
  185. 6:54without the rise the world would have
  186. 6:56been better
  187. 6:58we believe that the choice of feminism
  188. 7:00in many cases
  189. 7:01are not their free will there are cause
  190. 7:03of choices and manipulations
  191. 7:05due to backgrounds social standards etc
  192. 7:08media and the best way to promote the
  193. 7:10right of women
  194. 7:12is the second weight feminism which is
  195. 7:14to promote women to seek for higher
  196. 7:17positions in the social letters
  197. 7:19comparing to the opposition
  198. 7:21they celebrate third world feminism
  199. 7:23which sends many ground messages
  200. 7:25that we are going to prove now moving on
  201. 7:28to our
  202. 7:29definitions so what is choice feminism
  203. 7:32it welcomes
  204. 7:33the individual choices of women such as
  205. 7:36taking part in sex work
  206. 7:37choosing how to choosing to be a
  207. 7:39housewife etc
  208. 7:41however we think that they thought it is
  209. 7:43the right to choose but in fact
  210. 7:45it is because they are influenced by
  211. 7:47many factors like social standards
  212. 7:49media which tell them to do so and what
  213. 7:52is the rise of choice feminism rise
  214. 7:55means
  215. 7:56there are more women adapting to it and
  216. 7:58is actively promoted
  217. 8:00the problem is when the adaptation of
  218. 8:02something it will lead to inappropriate
  219. 8:04consequences
  220. 8:05there are two main points why we regret
  221. 8:08fruit the rise of choice feminism
  222. 8:10is actually harmful second it attracted
  223. 8:13the feminist movement
  224. 8:15a claim one being the rise of choice
  225. 8:17feminism is not their freedom choice
  226. 8:19but they are forced to do so therefore
  227. 8:22even if
  228. 8:23their child resolves the problems they
  229. 8:25are still bad choices
  230. 8:26example sex work six it is about
  231. 8:29extremely poor working conditions and
  232. 8:31exploitation
  233. 8:32to women workers why some women did have
  234. 8:35a choice in pursuing this
  235. 8:37a lot of women are forced into doing so
  236. 8:40because of black alternatives and this
  237. 8:42choice of working
  238. 8:43reserves resolves their problem but it
  239. 8:46is still a bad choice and it
  240. 8:47is harmful to them with this choice
  241. 8:50famine
  242. 8:51rise of choice feminism does not fulfill
  243. 8:53the idea
  244. 8:54of empowerment through freedom of choice
  245. 8:57another example
  246. 8:58could be of course of choice could be
  247. 9:00the idea of makeup
  248. 9:02the rise of choice feminism tells us
  249. 9:04that women should wear makeup because
  250. 9:06it's empowering however they are unable
  251. 9:09to recognize
  252. 9:10that wearing makeup is a product of
  253. 9:13portugal
  254. 9:14society and it matches the beauty
  255. 9:16standards
  256. 9:17this leads to shaming women who don't
  257. 9:19shave their body hair who
  258. 9:21don't have aquamarks simply don't
  259. 9:24or who don't simply don't like the ideal
  260. 9:27standards
  261. 9:29for the impact the rise of poisoning
  262. 9:31brought harm
  263. 9:32to the sex shoulder therefore more than
  264. 9:35proud to propose
  265. 9:37[Music]
  266. 9:40it is simply outrageous and
  267. 9:42self-destructive for a movement that
  268. 9:43stands for women's liberation
  269. 9:45to restrict their choice of what to do
  270. 9:47we do not regret the rise
  271. 9:49of choice feminism first of all some
  272. 9:51rebuttals for the proposition inside
  273. 9:54we have not received any sort of
  274. 9:55mechanism any sort of alternative
  275. 9:57that you have to our rise of choice
  276. 9:59feminism while on our side of the debate
  277. 10:01we are still maintaining traditional
  278. 10:03feminism how women can still
  279. 10:05just stand out from the patriarchal
  280. 10:08society without taking harm
  281. 10:09onto themselves we are trying to solve
  282. 10:11another problem that lies
  283. 10:13strictly to third world countries while
  284. 10:15you're doing nothing for them
  285. 10:17even on your side you've brought up the
  286. 10:19point that
  287. 10:20the choice are not being made by
  288. 10:22themselves they're being coerced into
  289. 10:23making that choice well on your side
  290. 10:25because you've not
  291. 10:26produced any sort of mechanism you're
  292. 10:27not creating agency for women either
  293. 10:29you're not changing the social situation
  294. 10:31they still remain the same you brought
  295. 10:33up examples like wearing makeup
  296. 10:35or women being involved in prostitution
  297. 10:38well these women in their own society
  298. 10:40they're already threatened they're
  299. 10:42already intimidated into that job
  300. 10:44if you try to push another layer of
  301. 10:46blame onto them
  302. 10:48by by opposition feminists themselves by
  303. 10:50traditional feminists who think that
  304. 10:51this is what they're doing
  305. 10:53it's bad you're creating another layer
  306. 10:55of intimidation onto them and this will
  307. 10:56hurt them more
  308. 10:57instead of helping them in any way
  309. 10:59therefore we do not think that their
  310. 11:01argument
  311. 11:01is legitimate in this debate in addition
  312. 11:04we do not think that they
  313. 11:05we they have already established choice
  314. 11:07feminism and we agree with it however we
  315. 11:09also have to establish
  316. 11:10and characterize the rise of choice
  317. 11:12feminism it affects most significantly
  318. 11:15because feminism is only trying to
  319. 11:17pervade into third world countries into
  320. 11:19developing societies
  321. 11:20and therefore the effect of the effect
  322. 11:22of this rise
  323. 11:23is most significant in conservative
  324. 11:25societies and they're most
  325. 11:27touched by this movement we think that
  326. 11:28we have two stakeholders in this debate
  327. 11:31first of all women in these societies
  328. 11:33especially in the third world who are
  329. 11:34having the least right
  330. 11:36and who are being the most oppressed in
  331. 11:38these societies in addition we also want
  332. 11:39to protect
  333. 11:40the feminist movement therefore we'll
  334. 11:42bring you two arguments
  335. 11:43why on our side we have justification
  336. 11:45for this right that you do
  337. 11:46not and on our side we can protect the
  338. 11:49wrong protect women
  339. 11:50and the feminist movement and you do not
  340. 11:52either first of all
  341. 11:54on our first argument we need to take
  342. 11:56into account three groups of women
  343. 11:58who are being affected first of all
  344. 12:00women who are already strong women who
  345. 12:01are already liberated and living in
  346. 12:03progressive societies
  347. 12:04they can choose to do whatever they want
  348. 12:06and of course they will choose to adhere
  349. 12:08to traditional feminism so they are out
  350. 12:10of the question however we need also to
  351. 12:12take
  352. 12:13into account women who choose to do that
  353. 12:15way in these progressive and to be
  354. 12:17adherent to the patriarchal society
  355. 12:18by their own willing and women in
  356. 12:20certain world societies who have no
  357. 12:22choice but
  358. 12:22they have to do what the men tell them
  359. 12:24to do you're disrespecting the choice of
  360. 12:26women
  361. 12:28in women in progressive societies with
  362. 12:29their choice and you're excluding and
  363. 12:31you're trying to create conflict
  364. 12:33against women is that what society
  365. 12:34you're not defending them at all you're
  366. 12:36telling them that they do not belong in
  367. 12:37the movement because they believe in
  368. 12:38something that you think is wrong
  369. 12:40and therefore you're creating a rift in
  370. 12:42the feminist movement that cannot be
  371. 12:44accepted i'm very proud to oppose
  372. 12:48you guys thank you that was a great
  373. 12:50first debate for the quarterfinals so
  374. 12:52first off
  375. 12:52thank you for that i will ask you
  376. 12:55questions
  377. 12:56after i hear from the judges though
  378. 12:58judges
  379. 12:59the first debate of the quarterfinals
  380. 13:02um i feel a little bit pity when the
  381. 13:05case of the prop
  382. 13:06sign today was not very neat no it was
  383. 13:08not very clean i think that you
  384. 13:10spent quite some time in there which
  385. 13:12resulted in your argument was a little
  386. 13:14bit
  387. 13:15simple it was not very deeply analyzed
  388. 13:17but i got the main idea from it
  389. 13:19and i think it's definitely a very very
  390. 13:22good ideas i think your team has very
  391. 13:24good
  392. 13:24material to work on now for the upside i
  393. 13:27think the upside today came up with very
  394. 13:28very strong rebuttals
  395. 13:30and i like the way that you try to rebut
  396. 13:32it you try to show me
  397. 13:34how it is actually you can put you only
  398. 13:36putting another layer of oppression onto
  399. 13:38the women i think that's a very very
  400. 13:40spot-on rebuttal
  401. 13:41uh aside from that i felt like the
  402. 13:44opposition side should also give me some
  403. 13:45context and characterization in order to
  404. 13:47make
  405. 13:48your arguments later on become clearer
  406. 13:50and i see that missing from
  407. 13:52the opposition sign today um i like the
  408. 13:54strategy when you brought up
  409. 13:56you know like question for the
  410. 13:58alternative of the proposition side
  411. 14:00which i
  412. 14:00believe the proposition so i should
  413. 14:03prepare to answer
  414. 14:04in the next turn ultimately i would give
  415. 14:06my points to the team that i think
  416. 14:08have done pretty much uh more
  417. 14:11contribution
  418. 14:12the material was more spot-on in this
  419. 14:14particular case
  420. 14:15providing the argument were actually
  421. 14:17quite you know similar to each other one
  422. 14:19team has case setup one team has good
  423. 14:21strategy
  424. 14:22i would go for the uh rebuttals that the
  425. 14:24opposition side gave to me so my 10
  426. 14:26points go for
  427. 14:27up thank you stuart
  428. 14:31i'll start with the proposition side um
  429. 14:33i i really like the fact that you know
  430. 14:35quite early on in your speech you
  431. 14:36outlined the burden of proof that these
  432. 14:38guys have to to um
  433. 14:39take on um and so for me that kind of
  434. 14:42sets up the debate in a really
  435. 14:43strong clear way and i'm glad that you
  436. 14:44did that because it kind of gives us a
  437. 14:46bit of a clear direction
  438. 14:47and also pushes uh some pressure onto
  439. 14:50the other side
  440. 14:51i agree with owen i thought the ideas
  441. 14:53some of the main components of the ideas
  442. 14:55were strong
  443. 14:56um what i'm really looking forward to in
  444. 14:58kind of the next
  445. 15:00few rounds with your teammates is them
  446. 15:02just pushing
  447. 15:03those ideas and developing them and
  448. 15:05seeing where they go
  449. 15:06and talking about the impact of those
  450. 15:08ideas so that's what i'm looking forward
  451. 15:10to
  452. 15:10the opposition side yes uh again um
  453. 15:14similar to wayne's comment your rebuttal
  454. 15:15was good um but
  455. 15:17one aspect that i'm interested in is
  456. 15:19this notion of the third world
  457. 15:20country that you include in your speech
  458. 15:22that's definitely something that i want
  459. 15:23to see
  460. 15:24develop at the moment i'm not 100 sure
  461. 15:27uh where it lies in your argument so i
  462. 15:29want to see that the clarity of that
  463. 15:31develop
  464. 15:31and i do really like the fact that you
  465. 15:33you mentioned that the other team didn't
  466. 15:35really have a mechanism
  467. 15:36and therefore there's no agency for for
  468. 15:38women to actually um you know take
  469. 15:40control of their lives in in a sense
  470. 15:41that's that's what they're kind of
  471. 15:43mentioning finally what i think is
  472. 15:44really good is that you very clearly
  473. 15:46outlines the stakeholders
  474. 15:48involved with this and so you know as
  475. 15:50your first round to mention the
  476. 15:52stakeholders
  477. 15:52is incredibly important um for me
  478. 15:56uh given both sides and in terms of
  479. 16:00how clearly i see the arguments and
  480. 16:02where which side i think the arguments
  481. 16:04will develop
  482. 16:05most uh strongly from i'm gonna have to
  483. 16:07give it to the opposition side as well
  484. 16:09thank you stuart and hill uh thank you
  485. 16:12guys for opening this quarter final
  486. 16:14round
  487. 16:14i actually enjoy and i think so far of
  488. 16:17this season this is the best
  489. 16:18first round i have witnessed so we we're
  490. 16:21done on both of you guys
  491. 16:22now i think um i do share similar
  492. 16:25comments and feedback with the two uh
  493. 16:27judges that um with the uh proposition
  494. 16:30team
  495. 16:31is a very yes is the the ideas are still
  496. 16:34on the basic level and fundamental but
  497. 16:35at least it's a
  498. 16:36it's a clear structure and easy to
  499. 16:38follow and you have examples to back it
  500. 16:40up as well so i think um
  501. 16:42and you spend quite a good time to lay
  502. 16:44out the context
  503. 16:45in terms of how you define um the the
  504. 16:48context of the society nowadays what
  505. 16:50leads to the rise of the choice of
  506. 16:51feminism
  507. 16:52then i think um that is the good thing i
  508. 16:54have to give to you but i agree with my
  509. 16:56judges that
  510. 16:56the ideas are still on a very basic
  511. 16:59level and
  512. 16:59need further enrichment um and it lacks
  513. 17:02the
  514. 17:03the complexity i think that is something
  515. 17:05that the second debater and the third
  516. 17:07debater need to look into
  517. 17:08look at that in different lengths and
  518. 17:10more complex lengths as well
  519. 17:11um but i do like the fact that you
  520. 17:13highlight a point where
  521. 17:15you see what are the reasons that lead
  522. 17:17to the rise
  523. 17:18of choice mechanism i think the debate
  524. 17:20here should also focus
  525. 17:21on with the opposition team i do agree
  526. 17:24with the judge that you have a very
  527. 17:25strong rebuttal
  528. 17:26in terms of like say the other team they
  529. 17:28don't have a alternative mechanism as
  530. 17:29well as
  531. 17:30used to maintain the traditional uh
  532. 17:32feminism and a layer
  533. 17:34but i think you spend too much time on
  534. 17:36the on the rebuttals and when you go to
  535. 17:38your argument
  536. 17:38there's only like 45 seconds left and
  537. 17:40that's why you can only
  538. 17:41name out the three stakeholders um three
  539. 17:44different groups of women
  540. 17:45in different societies and then you kind
  541. 17:47of like did not have enough time to
  542. 17:49really push
  543. 17:50and see like uh what are the the
  544. 17:52reasoning for each of these groups and
  545. 17:54how
  546. 17:54uh your case uh will turn out for each
  547. 17:57of these groups right so i think the
  548. 17:58second debater and 30 beta need to pick
  549. 18:00up on that
  550. 18:01and and in which further i think um the
  551. 18:04reason why i get my 10 point to one team
  552. 18:06is because
  553. 18:06i want to really want to see you guys
  554. 18:08really dig into the world the rise
  555. 18:10not just choice feminism i think one
  556. 18:14team has given me more
  557. 18:15of that um underlying reason why we have
  558. 18:18to look at the rights here instead
  559. 18:20so that's why my ten boy go to the
  560. 18:21proposition team okay
  561. 18:24judges thank you gee i'm gonna start
  562. 18:27with you
  563. 18:28you know personally for being the
  564. 18:30proposition on this side
  565. 18:31i feel like it's slightly harder for you
  566. 18:34guys you're
  567. 18:35disadvantaged but you got 10 points
  568. 18:38yeah i think you're relieved a bit
  569. 18:42relief but still
  570. 18:44because right now it's a 20-point
  571. 18:45difference you know the first round
  572. 18:47already
  573. 18:48things can definitely change but you did
  574. 18:50get 10 points which is significant
  575. 18:52thank you so mint i think you're quite
  576. 18:54happy i saw some of
  577. 18:56the fist pumps and yes yes yes secretly
  578. 18:58you're doing that
  579. 19:00you're happy relieved relieved yeah you
  580. 19:03got 20 points yeah
  581. 19:04so you're winning right now quite
  582. 19:06honestly i'm not really confident
  583. 19:08doing this motion so yeah getting a lead
  584. 19:11in the first round it's
  585. 19:12rather important in a match of this
  586. 19:14stature that is especially for the
  587. 19:16mindset as well
  588. 19:17it helps you guys because you're
  589. 19:18familiar with how the debates go and you
  590. 19:20already know that you can still lose
  591. 19:22so min jay thank you so much so please
  592. 19:24go back to your seats thank you guys
  593. 19:27currently choco chips they have 10
  594. 19:30points to my left team th x they have
  595. 19:3320 points we just finished the first
  596. 19:35round and both teams know that things
  597. 19:38can change
  598. 19:38entirely with the second third and final
  599. 19:41reply speech
  600. 19:42we'll begin the second debate right
  601. 19:44after the break
  602. 19:47[Music]
  603. 19:51with this choice famine rise of choice
  604. 19:53feminism
  605. 19:54does not fulfill the idea of empowerment
  606. 19:57through freedom of choice
  607. 19:59if you try to push another layer of
  608. 20:01blame onto them you're creating another
  609. 20:03layer of intimidation onto them and this
  610. 20:05will hurt them
  611. 20:06more instead of helping them in any way
  612. 20:08i feel a little bit pity when the case
  613. 20:10of the prop sign today
  614. 20:12was not very neat it was not very clean
  615. 20:22so welcome back to debaters season 2
  616. 20:25currently the proposition team has 10
  617. 20:27points the opposition team has
  618. 20:2920 points we are going to begin the
  619. 20:31second
  620. 20:32debate from team choco chips please
  621. 20:36welcome
  622. 20:36wayne new jen from the opposition team
  623. 20:40team thx please welcome lane yeah
  624. 20:45okay second round you guys have lots and
  625. 20:49lots of notes
  626. 20:50novels that you're writing like the
  627. 20:51judges you are going against the british
  628. 20:54accent
  629. 20:54are you feeling confident with the
  630. 20:55british accent
  631. 20:58um i think that
  632. 21:01the accents of this evaluator
  633. 21:04is really important but it also depends
  634. 21:07on the other
  635. 21:09other factors like contents and she does
  636. 21:12have the british accent also men with
  637. 21:13the british accent
  638. 21:14but it's just a fun way with the
  639. 21:16debaters but it doesn't mean anything
  640. 21:19but let me come over here so yes
  641. 21:22you're down by 10 points oh it's okay
  642. 21:25maybe again or all 30 points
  643. 21:29yes maybe you can do that i could
  644. 21:32oh you could we will see though we will
  645. 21:35see
  646. 21:36so you guys are already familiar with
  647. 21:38the second round you have four minutes
  648. 21:40to deliver your speech
  649. 21:41poi is entirely open
  650. 21:44proposition team you will be going first
  651. 21:46opposition team you will be going second
  652. 21:48you guys understand yes perfect
  653. 21:52let the debate begin
  654. 21:53[Music]
  655. 21:57first let me remind you guys what the
  656. 21:59alternative
  657. 22:00we bring here today we encourage women
  658. 22:03to perceive the ultimate goal in their
  659. 22:05life
  660. 22:05and orient them to go for higher
  661. 22:07position
  662. 22:08in the society so let me go to
  663. 22:11some rebuttal for the opposition side
  664. 22:15you say that we are here just to create
  665. 22:17conflict to the society
  666. 22:19but however the conflict already existed
  667. 22:23in the world and what you do is let them
  668. 22:26live in the society
  669. 22:27what where they cannot stand up for what
  670. 22:30they believe to be right
  671. 22:31but you do not lead them to pursue for
  672. 22:35like
  673. 22:35higher position in the society and if
  674. 22:38the women
  675. 22:38in the world of opposition they just do
  676. 22:41what they can
  677. 22:42which is not that much and they will
  678. 22:45like do
  679. 22:45like what men told them then the society
  680. 22:48will look down on them
  681. 22:49and the prejudice would come because
  682. 22:52they
  683. 22:52hey is the third wall the prejudice it's
  684. 22:55strong
  685. 22:56so let's come to our argument why the
  686. 22:58rights of choice feminism backtrack the
  687. 23:01feminist movement
  688. 23:03let's come to some important
  689. 23:05characterization hey
  690. 23:06rights and women enjoy right now it's a
  691. 23:09pretty
  692. 23:10uh easy product if the collective
  693. 23:12efforts of the feminist movement
  694. 23:14reproductive rights employment rights
  695. 23:16among others
  696. 23:17i product of the waves of feminism
  697. 23:20fought for the thousands of women
  698. 23:22who march and rally on the streets hence
  699. 23:24the life of women
  700. 23:25is always tied to the movement whether
  701. 23:28or not she like it
  702. 23:30so what the rights of choice feminism
  703. 23:32done
  704. 23:33in society just to distant women from
  705. 23:36the collective
  706. 23:37because of the narrative that whatever
  707. 23:39they're doing is their choice
  708. 23:41so the rights of child feminism changed
  709. 23:43the way we view feminism
  710. 23:45from a collective standpoint towards an
  711. 23:48individualistic approach
  712. 23:50uh one because everything is about
  713. 23:52freedom of choice and
  714. 23:53individual improv empowerment more and
  715. 23:56more women
  716. 23:57become like self-interested and unable
  717. 24:00to consider the general views
  718. 24:02of families movement two when freedom of
  719. 24:05choice is the dominant discourse
  720. 24:07it weakens the movement because instead
  721. 24:09of cohering as one
  722. 24:11women excuse himself by saying i remind
  723. 24:13me own choice
  724. 24:14so instead of getting more numbers in
  725. 24:17rallies
  726. 24:18or invoking policies the rights of
  727. 24:20choice feminism has made it harder
  728. 24:22to make women college together no thanks
  729. 24:25three their choices in the state school
  730. 24:28that made it significantly
  731. 24:29harder to advance women's rights when
  732. 24:32more and more women
  733. 24:33choose to be housewife assess the
  734. 24:35discourse on
  735. 24:37dismantling the narrative that women
  736. 24:39shouldn't be
  737. 24:41content at home to step backwards so
  738. 24:44what are the impacts hey first there are
  739. 24:47lots of women who care about the cause
  740. 24:50for the collective two when they are
  741. 24:53last swimming
  742. 24:54we are unable to vote progressive
  743. 24:56politicians
  744. 24:57we are weak in number and three
  745. 25:00we are unable to sway more moderates
  746. 25:02because
  747. 25:03they are they see that some women are
  748. 25:05not affected
  749. 25:06so they think that there's nothing wrong
  750. 25:09so
  751. 25:10uh the rise of choice feminism just
  752. 25:13weakened the foundation of feminist
  753. 25:15movement compared to the world that the
  754. 25:17proposition side brings here today
  755. 25:19first we can ensure that the whole
  756. 25:22movement
  757. 25:23fights against the social standard in
  758. 25:25patriarchal countries
  759. 25:27and two we care and we consider
  760. 25:30whether the choice of the women is right
  761. 25:32or not and we orient them to choose the
  762. 25:35right thing
  763. 25:35which is higher position in the society
  764. 25:38and by that they can first
  765. 25:40overcome their background or even they
  766. 25:42cannot at least they try
  767. 25:44they climb on the social ladder and by
  768. 25:46that they change
  769. 25:47how the society look down on them how
  770. 25:50the society
  771. 25:50see them and that's how we protect the
  772. 25:52women here proud to propose
  773. 25:58we believe that the true happiness only
  774. 26:01happens
  775. 26:01when women got their freedom of choice
  776. 26:04respected
  777. 26:05first some rebuttal you claim that the
  778. 26:07number of
  779. 26:08women that have the same ideas are less
  780. 26:10in our world
  781. 26:11therefore your solution is to force them
  782. 26:14to work together
  783. 26:16in order to achieve something that they
  784. 26:18don't really want
  785. 26:19but that's not the logical why first of
  786. 26:22all
  787. 26:23we believe that in our world we give the
  788. 26:25woman
  789. 26:26more choice by giving them the choice
  790. 26:29feminism
  791. 26:30because we give them something that they
  792. 26:32can consider they can take things
  793. 26:34into evaluation while in the world what
  794. 26:37is the
  795. 26:38uh what is the proposition world is the
  796. 26:40world where
  797. 26:41women only have one choice and they
  798. 26:43didn't even get to evaluate
  799. 26:46all the contents that they have so if we
  800. 26:49force them to follow by one chain
  801. 26:50it is going against even against the
  802. 26:54uh the initial purpose of the feminism
  803. 26:57which to give them uh leave a sense of
  804. 27:00liberals
  805. 27:01even in their thinking therefore we
  806. 27:03believe that's worthless
  807. 27:05secondly talking about the patriarchy
  808. 27:08uh problem that the proposition gave up
  809. 27:11okay so we accept it so
  810. 27:12even when our choice uh feminism
  811. 27:16reinforce the patriarchy we we still
  812. 27:18think it is worth it
  813. 27:20why because when when women support the
  814. 27:23idea
  815. 27:24in the choice feminism they are also
  816. 27:26understanding the
  817. 27:27uh the meaning of the of other
  818. 27:32feminist movement which enhance them
  819. 27:34that
  820. 27:35they can also understand and
  821. 27:38know the ideas of other feminist
  822. 27:40movement that they can support
  823. 27:42the other feminist movement that goes
  824. 27:44against patriarchy so we think it's
  825. 27:46worth it
  826. 27:47now coming to our second idea is that we
  827. 27:49believe that
  828. 27:50the uh our choice feminism in our world
  829. 27:53had a positive side
  830. 27:54on all three groups of women
  831. 27:58in our stakeholders why because let's
  832. 28:01first go into the
  833. 28:02uh contextualization and also a bit of
  834. 28:05characterization
  835. 28:06the women are living in a conservative
  836. 28:09background
  837. 28:10it is where they have conservative
  838. 28:11parents in a conservative society
  839. 28:14and they are also judged by conserve
  840. 28:16conservative
  841. 28:17women what is the case it is that when
  842. 28:20women do not follow the transaction
  843. 28:22like such as they want to stay at home
  844. 28:25and do the housework
  845. 28:26they are also being valued by the other
  846. 28:28woman other successful women in this
  847. 28:30society because
  848. 28:31they all only highly value the uh
  849. 28:35the outwork the position in the society
  850. 28:37but not the contribution of them to the
  851. 28:39family
  852. 28:39so we believe that uh in this world
  853. 28:42women are even
  854. 28:44being pressured by the
  855. 28:47being pressed by the world that the
  856. 28:49woman
  857. 28:50cannot express themselves and it will
  858. 28:52create more of the discrimination
  859. 28:54between the two groups of women why is
  860. 28:57this a problem
  861. 28:58it is when they have the discrimination
  862. 29:00we believe that they cannot
  863. 29:01or express themselves in order to make
  864. 29:04uh feminism as a whole a better
  865. 29:07so why in our world they are better
  866. 29:09because women
  867. 29:10in our in our world where they choose to
  868. 29:12do what they want
  869. 29:13they are they are supported by the
  870. 29:15choice feminism
  871. 29:16it means that it gives them more
  872. 29:18confidence more belief in themselves
  873. 29:20and it also gives the other google women
  874. 29:23who are successful who
  875. 29:24have high position in a society to have
  876. 29:26a more positive
  877. 29:28look and more understandable look on
  878. 29:30them in
  879. 29:31and in our world is where only the woman
  880. 29:33can
  881. 29:34have the same idea the core value of
  882. 29:36feminism is that
  883. 29:37when they do something even that
  884. 29:40it is not like each other we still
  885. 29:42towards a core value of
  886. 29:45uh feminism and make women more
  887. 29:48liberals that's why we think we won the
  888. 29:51debate
  889. 29:53all right second round that was good
  890. 29:56i'm very curious to hear what the judges
  891. 29:58have to say because jang over here
  892. 30:01lots of energy passionate about it here
  893. 30:04the rebuttals the remarks
  894. 30:05this is getting good i'm really really
  895. 30:08excited
  896. 30:09judges view now with the
  897. 30:12first team with the proposition team i
  898. 30:14think when you
  899. 30:16do your rebuttal for the opposition
  900. 30:17team's argument i don't think it's a
  901. 30:19very
  902. 30:20strong rebuttal and i think you kind of
  903. 30:22know it as well
  904. 30:23however when you go into your arguments
  905. 30:26i think
  906. 30:26now i see a jump from the first debater
  907. 30:29to the second debater
  908. 30:30your ids are getting so complicated and
  909. 30:33so complex
  910. 30:34with many nuances and that is what i
  911. 30:36like when i see the structure
  912. 30:38i think there's two things i really want
  913. 30:40your team to go and
  914. 30:41dig deep into the third round because i
  915. 30:43think that gonna be your strongest
  916. 30:45argument
  917. 30:46which is when you support the rise of
  918. 30:49choice feminism it will create
  919. 30:51a social narrative that narrative when
  920. 30:53it gets out of control
  921. 30:55can make the society go from a
  922. 30:56collective mindset into an
  923. 30:58individualistic mindset
  924. 30:59i think that is a very smart reasoning
  925. 31:02so try with the third debater
  926. 31:04trying to dig deep into that and see how
  927. 31:06the rise of choice feminism when get out
  928. 31:07of control
  929. 31:08can push society more from collective uh
  930. 31:11collectivism into individualism and what
  931. 31:13could be the potential
  932. 31:14blind spot there now go into the
  933. 31:17opposition
  934. 31:18team i do appreciate the effect that the
  935. 31:20the effort you trying to complement for
  936. 31:22the first debater by explaining on
  937. 31:24the the the situation and
  938. 31:26characterization of women in the third
  939. 31:27world
  940. 31:28uh country with a conservative
  941. 31:30background however
  942. 31:31i didn't see quite clearly the cut off
  943. 31:33from the first argument
  944. 31:35and they go to the second argument like
  945. 31:37the second argument of you is a little
  946. 31:39bit blurry right now
  947. 31:40so i think your third debater need to
  948. 31:42bring up to another level
  949. 31:43rather than just focus on like just
  950. 31:45women women and look at the lens in
  951. 31:47multiple perspectives then just focus on
  952. 31:48the women right
  953. 31:49so for that particular reason my 10
  954. 31:51point this round go to the proposition
  955. 31:52team
  956. 31:56stuart for the proposition side
  957. 31:59i thought your round was incredibly
  958. 32:02strong
  959. 32:02um i do like the way that you have
  960. 32:05really
  961. 32:06pushed uh this past just you know um
  962. 32:10a group of women in society and that is
  963. 32:11actually at the societal level
  964. 32:13and also including notions of you know
  965. 32:15how does this affect the politicians
  966. 32:17and what ramifications uh does this have
  967. 32:19as well so i think
  968. 32:20pushing that um and really putting it
  969. 32:23beyond kind of the immediate
  970. 32:24group of people that we may be looking
  971. 32:26at is is a good route
  972. 32:28uh for you guys um for the
  973. 32:31opposition side i think your rebuttals
  974. 32:34uh were strong
  975. 32:35um again for me uh like you i want to
  976. 32:38see kind of the broader impacts now i
  977. 32:40want to start see at a greater level how
  978. 32:41is this actually impacting
  979. 32:43not just this group of people but a
  980. 32:44large group of people for me
  981. 32:46therefore i in terms of the direction of
  982. 32:49the arguments and where i think
  983. 32:52it can go my ten points will go to the
  984. 32:54proposition side for this round
  985. 32:57all right i think the debate was nice
  986. 33:02uh both of you guys show very very nice
  987. 33:04skill set
  988. 33:05but in terms of the content i think that
  989. 33:08it lacks up some analogy
  990. 33:10like some of something to you know to
  991. 33:12help illustrate for what you are saying
  992. 33:13in here
  993. 33:14so i would love to hear some examples of
  994. 33:16analogies like that in the next turns
  995. 33:18um regarding the rebuttals today i think
  996. 33:20that jang
  997. 33:21improved a lot like she tried to explain
  998. 33:24a lot of problem
  999. 33:25that was happening in the previous round
1000. 33:28and i think that some of your
1001. 33:30rebuttals actually work um especially
1002. 33:32when you talk about how
1003. 33:34the oppositions are actually going to
  1004. 33:35just creating more conflict
1005. 33:37and your side is actually going to you
1006. 33:39know like reduce the counseling
  1007. 33:40everything like that i think it's a very
  1008. 33:42nice idea
1009. 33:43um but in terms of explaining the
1010. 33:45argument i think even though the impact
  1011. 33:47was
1012. 33:47very very nicely done the reasoning that
  1013. 33:50you step
1014. 33:51up you're preparing for that impact was
  1015. 33:53actually not as
1016. 33:54it's a little bit shaky for me but i
1017. 33:56will not say immediately like where or
1018. 33:59or how because it would be unfair for
  1019. 34:01your team as well
1020. 34:02now for hui i think that your speech
1021. 34:05today is nice uh i love the rebuttal
1022. 34:07especially when you talk about you know
  1023. 34:09like how
1024. 34:10um you're going to you know like eva
1025. 34:12like evaluate the women is not going to
  1026. 34:14be you know like
1027. 34:15having the chance to evaluate on
1028. 34:17different you know areas but only
1029. 34:19you know they have to everybody have to
1030. 34:22achieve for one single goal i think that
  1031. 34:24part is golden
  1032. 34:25but you start from there i didn't see a
1033. 34:27little bit push in there
1034. 34:28to make that into one very strong
  1035. 34:30extension because if i were you i would
  1036. 34:32do
1037. 34:32much more than that um comparing the
1038. 34:35argument i must say that the argument
1039. 34:37of the peroxide is slightly stronger in
  1040. 34:40terms of the impact
1041. 34:41but for the upside i think the reasoning
  1042. 34:44that you put
1043. 34:44in there was persuasive for me so it was
  1044. 34:47actually a
1045. 34:48har a tough call on a very very small
  1046. 34:51margin
1047. 34:52my points would go to the team that is
  1048. 34:54right now
  1049. 34:55raising a question that i think have not
  1050. 34:58been answered
1051. 34:59by the other team which is the question
  1052. 35:01of why
1053. 35:02we have to do this particular thing and
1054. 35:05i think this is the opposition side i'm
1055. 35:07still giving my 10 points to them
1056. 35:09all right this is getting interesting
  1057. 35:12now
  1058. 35:12it is 30 30. we are tied i like to see
  1059. 35:17this
  1060. 35:17this is uh action-packed debate right
  1061. 35:19now
1062. 35:21yes you didn't get all 30 points but you
1063. 35:24were able to tie the debate how are you
  1064. 35:26feeling
  1065. 35:27i i really want 30 points
1066. 35:30so maybe i'll just like try harder in
  1067. 35:33the red light speech
1068. 35:34david well i hope you do try harder
1069. 35:36because we want you guys to do the best
  1070. 35:37you possibly can
  1071. 35:38but it's time so you're not losing all
  1072. 35:40right
  1073. 35:43yes you got 10 points
1074. 35:46now you guys are tied what are your
  1075. 35:48thoughts
1076. 35:49i believe in my teammate i think he can
  1077. 35:51get the points and
1078. 35:52contestants thank you so much please
1079. 35:55return back to your seats thank you
1080. 35:57currently right now the teams are tied
  1081. 36:00with 30 points for coco chips and 30
  1082. 36:02points for th
1083. 36:04x this is getting interesting we have
  1084. 36:07the third round
  1085. 36:08right after the break
1086. 36:16so what the rights of choice feminism
  1087. 36:19done
1088. 36:20in society just to distant women from
  1089. 36:22the collective
1090. 36:23because of the narrative that whatever
1091. 36:25they're doing is their choice
1092. 36:27if we force them to follow by one chain
  1093. 36:30it is going against
1094. 36:31even against the uh the initial purpose
  1095. 36:35of the feminism
1096. 36:36i want to start see at a greater level
1097. 36:38how is this actually impacting
1098. 36:40not just this group of people but a
  1099. 36:41large group of people
  1100. 36:54[Music]
1101. 36:59welcome back to the third round of the
  1102. 37:01debaters
1103. 37:02currently we are tied with 30 and
1104. 37:0530. this round is extremely important
1105. 37:08before we go to the final reply speech
1106. 37:10without further ado let me please
  1107. 37:12welcome the contestants
1108. 37:14to my right from the proposition team
1109. 37:16team choco chips please welcome
1110. 37:18lei and to my left from the
1111. 37:22opposition team team th x please welcome
  1112. 37:24that minkoy
1113. 37:27okay you guys it's tied are you feeling
  1114. 37:30nervous right now
1115. 37:32are you feeling nervous yes of course
1116. 37:34because in front of me is the brilliant
  1117. 37:36debater
  1118. 37:37yeah i learned that last debate he's a
  1119. 37:39very accomplished debater but
  1120. 37:41how i saw your performance last time i
  1121. 37:43think you're also extremely
  1122. 37:44excellent so it's going to be a good
  1123. 37:47match so don't be
1124. 37:48don't be that nervous okay it's gonna be
  1125. 37:51okay it's gonna be okay
1126. 37:53koi yeah are you as nervous as khan
1127. 37:56um i'm all right because we used to be
  1128. 37:59excellent mate so i
1129. 38:01know him in and out really yes why
1130. 38:04didn't you tell me this
  1131. 38:05oh you don't ask you could i please
  1132. 38:08share more information with me i didn't
  1133. 38:09know you guys are ex-teammates
1134. 38:11uh yeah so this is a good history then
  1135. 38:12between you two yeah
1136. 38:14i'm really really excited because this
  1137. 38:17debate
1138. 38:17so far has been probably one of the
1139. 38:19better debates on the debate
1140. 38:21show so you guys the third round you
1141. 38:24have four minutes to deliver your speech
1142. 38:26poi is entirely open do you guys
  1143. 38:29understand
1144. 38:30yep awesome khan from the proposition
  1145. 38:33team you are going
1146. 38:34first okay all right let the debate
  1147. 38:38begin
  1148. 38:39[Music]
1149. 38:43in the safe zone feed your baby with
  1150. 38:45milk doesn't bring
1151. 38:46true happiness true happiness only comes
1152. 38:48from when we fight for the
1153. 38:50underprivileged women in this society
1154. 38:53and when we can keep
1155. 38:54when we can protect the righteous free
  1156. 38:56will of the woman
1157. 38:57in society is the week it's gonna be the
1158. 39:00winner today so before i come to the
1159. 39:02main clashes in this debate i will
1160. 39:03answer two burdens that the opposition
1161. 39:05side have gave to the proposition
1162. 39:07first of all they say that by the second
  1163. 39:09wave in the proposition
1164. 39:10we will bring the oppression towards the
  1165. 39:12underprivileged women in society
1166. 39:14i would answer is wrong why because
  1167. 39:17first of all the
1168. 39:18in the society has has already uh
1169. 39:21existed nothing that they women they
  1170. 39:23cannot
1171. 39:23be better into suicide because while
1172. 39:26they cannot be better as men they don't
  1173. 39:28have the
1174. 39:28enough ability to follow the mentality
1175. 39:31to follow their own passion
1176. 39:32in the conservation conservative country
1177. 39:35therefore they only stay at home and
  1178. 39:36become a
1179. 39:38household and house worker they all need
1180. 39:39a simple job as anyone can do so second
1181. 39:42of all they give me a burden that
1182. 39:44in our society they will have a more
1183. 39:46understandable look why is answering so
1184. 39:48only for the high class women which is
  1185. 39:51not an essential
1186. 39:52material in this debate because why
1187. 39:54because only they they can perceive the
  1188. 39:56higher
  1189. 39:56position in conservative conservative
  1190. 39:58country and this question
1191. 40:00is only the answer because in the
  1192. 40:02underprivileged woman in society
  1193. 40:04and that's why that's these main
  1194. 40:07stakeholders
1195. 40:07we need to be considered in this debate
1196. 40:10so let me come i will be
1197. 40:11moving into the main question uh first
1198. 40:13of all which side has the righteous free
  1199. 40:16will
1200. 40:16of the underprivileged women second
1201. 40:19whether the choice feminism is
  1202. 40:20beneficial for women and
1203. 40:22third of all is the benefits of feminism
  1204. 40:24so i will answer the first
1205. 40:26uh the first question which is uh which
1206. 40:28i have the righteous free will of under
1207. 40:31privileged feminism first of all why the
  1208. 40:33choice to engage no
1209. 40:35why the choice to engage in sexual is
1210. 40:37valid it becomes problematic when the
  1211. 40:39overwhelming
1212. 40:40uh discourse states that sex work is
1213. 40:43a valid choice why some women they did
  1214. 40:45have a choice in pursuing
1215. 40:47say what a lot of women are forced into
1216. 40:49the sex industry because of the lack of
1217. 40:52alternatives they are poor unable to go
  1218. 40:54to school
1219. 40:55and pressure themselves to uh and they
1220. 40:57have to pressure themselves to earn
  1221. 40:59money
1222. 40:59therefore sex work is their own only
  1223. 41:02choice
  1224. 41:02with this choice feminism doesn't
  1225. 41:04fulfill the idea of
1226. 41:06empowering through the freedom of choice
  1227. 41:08what this simply
1228. 41:09means because there are a hundred women
1229. 41:12who say this is my choice
1230. 41:13i'm empowered by this choice we are
  1231. 41:15unable to hear
1232. 41:17that the the cause of maybe uh one or
  1233. 41:20two women
1234. 41:21who might be saying that they uh they
  1235. 41:23didn't have a choice
1236. 41:24they were forced in doing so so right
1237. 41:26from the beginning this is not their
  1238. 41:27choice
1239. 41:28because they only follow the standard in
1240. 41:30the society which means they don't come
  1241. 41:32up and
1242. 41:32and uh and give them enough
  1243. 41:35encouragement
1244. 41:36to follow the writer's choice you just
1245. 41:37give them the you really make one
1246. 41:39second of all another single would be
1247. 41:41the idea of cosmic luxury then make up
1248. 41:43the rise of choice in feminism tell us
1249. 41:45that women should use makeup because
  1250. 41:48they believe into
1251. 41:49it into will be in power however women
1252. 41:52are unable to recognize that using
1253. 41:54makeup is the product of
  1254. 41:56the patriarchal society that
1255. 41:57continuously must the idea be
1256. 41:59abused standard this has lead to the
1257. 42:01things like shaming or who
1258. 42:03which uh women they don't have an
1259. 42:05ability to follow that kind of standard
  1260. 42:07they will be
1261. 42:08pressurized and oppressed in this
1262. 42:10society and only when you answer the
  1263. 42:12problem
1264. 42:13where you went after that you somehow
1265. 42:15when women they follow this kind of
1266. 42:17standard it will change prejudice in
  1267. 42:19society unless
1268. 42:21you can answer that question you have to
1269. 42:22follow the opposition side so probably
1270. 42:24have to take display in this
  1271. 42:25argumentation
1272. 42:26second order whether the choice of
1273. 42:28feminism is beneficial for women right
1274. 42:31we understand that from rapid beginnings
  1275. 42:33these debate this
1276. 42:34the choices of women are not be
1277. 42:36considered to be important because they
  1278. 42:37have to follow following
1279. 42:39in conservative country and the third
1280. 42:41world and to answer this question
  1281. 42:42because you
1282. 42:43already took taking the place happy to
  1283. 42:45propose
  1284. 42:46[Music]
  1285. 42:50judges let's take a step back at this
1286. 42:52debate and look at it strategically
1287. 42:53first question even if the choices made
  1288. 42:56within choice feminism
1289. 42:57is coercion as side proposition race so
  1290. 43:00what
1291. 43:01site opposition brought to you a case
1292. 43:02that brought you the idea that the
1293. 43:04ideological purity of the feminist
  1294. 43:06movement as it is
1295. 43:08is bad right so are you going to tell
1296. 43:10these women who have been
1297. 43:11forced into prostitution forced into
  1298. 43:13pornography that
1299. 43:15their choice is not valid that the the
1300. 43:17fact that the woman within the feminist
1301. 43:19movement is not going to value what
  1302. 43:20they're going to
1303. 43:21do and simply put on another layer of
  1304. 43:23oppression on them
  1305. 43:24secondly there is a clear contradiction
1306. 43:26within the case of say proposition
1307. 43:28because the reason why we said this
1308. 43:29isn't really coercion because if
1309. 43:31it is true that women are forced on
1310. 43:33their side of the house then why is it
1311. 43:35the case that they are advocating for
1312. 43:36the fact that they need to do
1313. 43:37more than what they can right because if
1314. 43:39they were forced into things such as
1315. 43:41prostitution then they surely would have
1316. 43:43wanted to do more things to be a ceo if
  1317. 43:45they had wanted to
1318. 43:46in these cases we believe that this is a
  1319. 43:48severe negligence
1320. 43:50on the ability and on the circumstances
  1321. 43:52of these poor women
1322. 43:53first of all they have an incredibly
1323. 43:55eurocentric view and approach to this
  1324. 43:56debate
  1325. 43:57individualism right because
  1326. 43:58individualism is a reason
1327. 44:00why in the western countries as it is
  1328. 44:02feminism no longer
1329. 44:03exists the fact that feminism
  1330. 44:05traditionally already currently exists
1331. 44:07alongside the choice feminism as it is
  1332. 44:09means that individualism isn't
1333. 44:11a factor that is killing feminism in
  1334. 44:13western developed countries
1335. 44:15it is the kind of fanatical ideological
1336. 44:18fanaticism that uh the feminism movement
1337. 44:21is currently pushing in these sort of
  1338. 44:22countries
1339. 44:23is the reason why conservative forces
1340. 44:24suggest president donald trump could
1341. 44:26push the idea that feminism is so
1342. 44:28radical and should not be worked with
1343. 44:30not the individualism in of itself
1344. 44:32so stepping into the rebuttals of their
  1345. 44:34case
1346. 44:35from the first speech they raised the
  1347. 44:36idea of how um
1348. 44:38trying to advocate for works and choices
1349. 44:40that are bad choices like sex
1350. 44:41work is smart right but even if you are
  1351. 44:44not pushing
1352. 44:44uh say uh choice feminism right what are
  1353. 44:47you going to tell
1354. 44:47these sort of women who are backed into
1355. 44:49a corner what are they going to be doing
  1356. 44:51right because even if you're supporting
1357. 44:53second wave feminism you're not going to
  1358. 44:54get these uh
1359. 44:55um get these women any more income
  1360. 44:57they're not going to
1361. 44:58remove these women from the bottom of
1362. 45:00the society if uh if
1363. 45:02from from their current position they
1364. 45:04don't want to be a prostitute but they
1365. 45:05do not have the ability to rise above
1366. 45:07the station right and this is exactly
1367. 45:08the reason why second wave
  1368. 45:10feminism isn't the current status of
  1369. 45:12feminism right because women
1370. 45:13adopt the new more fanatical feminism in
1371. 45:17response to the kind of negligence the
  1372. 45:19side proposition demonstrates right
1373. 45:21because the kind of choice feminism we
  1374. 45:23provided
1375. 45:23provides this course within the feminine
  1376. 45:25feminism
1377. 45:26movement it provides the feminism
  1378. 45:28movement with more of a
1379. 45:30perspective to consider the position of
1380. 45:33these sort of women and to improve
1381. 45:34themselves secondly there is a point of
  1382. 45:36say
1383. 45:36shaming women who don't make up because
  1384. 45:38we conform to picture
1385. 45:39because society but this is against the
1386. 45:41very notion of what we're standing for
  1387. 45:42right because we're talking about
1388. 45:43choice feminism these women respect each
1389. 45:45other's choice and say that every single
1390. 45:47choice of theirs is a feminist we do not
  1391. 45:49believe that
1392. 45:49they will shame other women when they
1393. 45:51choose not to make up this is simply
1394. 45:53just strawmen in our case first of all
1395. 45:55they reached the point of how there will
1396. 45:57be less women caring about politics
  1397. 45:58individualist mindset without coherence
1398. 46:00within the feminist society but this is
  1399. 46:02something mentally not true
1400. 46:04because even within the uh the feminist
  1401. 46:07movement
1402. 46:07right even if they are very much a
  1403. 46:09choice feminist for example they're
  1404. 46:10still approach
1405. 46:11my choice right they're still pro the
1406. 46:13kind of things that like uh we respect
1407. 46:15the kind of choice that other women
1408. 46:16make which means that even if they are
1409. 46:18activists we believe that they will
1410. 46:19still participate in the feminist
1411. 46:21movement in some ways because they still
1412. 46:22kind of respect the choice that other
1413. 46:24women make which means that from the
1414. 46:26first start they're already an ally of
1415. 46:28the feminist movement which already
1416. 46:29helps compared to the status quo where
  1417. 46:31they simply
1418. 46:31are not engaged within the feminist
1419. 46:33movement as a whole because the feminist
1420. 46:34movement they cried them as beings
1421. 46:36activists as not helping the movement
  1422. 46:38enough
1423. 46:38first of all we provide you with the
1424. 46:40kind of moderate moderacy that will help
  1425. 46:42moderates to enter
1426. 46:43the movement because this way we accept
1427. 46:45the women and know that their views
1428. 46:47regardless of what instead of the kind
  1429. 46:49of financial system
1430. 46:50that not only provide provide or import
  1431. 46:53munition for conservative men
1432. 46:54and conservative politicians but also
  1433. 46:56the listed franchises
1434. 46:58the kind of women who were already
1435. 46:59traditional in their own mindset so
  1436. 47:01proud to oppose
1437. 47:05this is heating up i have some questions
1438. 47:07for you though afterwards as well
1439. 47:09i want to ask the judges first i'm
1440. 47:10extremely curious to hear what they have
  1441. 47:12to say
1442. 47:13and then i will be going to you guys in
  1443. 47:15a second judges
  1444. 47:17hugh let's start with you you've been
  1445. 47:20very impressed so far
1446. 47:22so this is the third round this is the
  1447. 47:24really really good match
  1448. 47:26and i still don't know which 10 point
1449. 47:28which team the 10 point goes to
1450. 47:30so now with the proposition team i want
1451. 47:32to focus more on the
1452. 47:33the the clash resolution rather than the
  1453. 47:36rebounders because i think the rebuttal
1454. 47:37is a little bit lacking for me now the
1455. 47:40reason why i focus on the clash is
  1456. 47:42because you
1457. 47:42actually do quite well on the first one
1458. 47:44when you focus on the free will
1459. 47:47of um of women in conservative society
  1460. 47:50in third world countries
1461. 47:51i think you are very smart and focused
  1462. 47:54on the world
1463. 47:55narratives because i think all of these
  1464. 47:57choices eventually will lead to a
  1465. 47:58narrative
1466. 47:59and the narrative can be used as a
1467. 48:01strong cause but it can still be
  1468. 48:03abused or exploited for a worse
  1469. 48:05direction
1470. 48:06right but you run out of time
1471. 48:09for the second idea which is when i go
1472. 48:11to the society level from collectivism
  1473. 48:13to individualism
1474. 48:14that is where i want to see more because
1475. 48:16i think like that is such a strong
1476. 48:17argument of the second debater and if
  1477. 48:19you push
  1478. 48:20that battery it's going to be a great
  1479. 48:22ending to
1480. 48:23uh already good uh debate right now the
  1481. 48:26opposition team i
1482. 48:27appreciate the fact that you come in and
1483. 48:29with the first and the second debaters
1484. 48:31um you guys are still lacking in terms
1485. 48:33of like pushing the battery of the
  1486. 48:34arguments towards society level
  1487. 48:36and there's a lot of arguments of the
  1488. 48:38previous team
1489. 48:39of the other team that you guys haven't
  1490. 48:41addressed i think you spend time
1491. 48:43rebutting a lot of the the ideas um
1492. 48:46from free choice to coercion to even
  1493. 48:49like collectivism switched to
  1494. 48:50individualism
  1495. 48:51so i appreciate that i think in this
  1496. 48:54round
1497. 48:55i have to give it to a team that
  1498. 48:58actually taking
1499. 48:59the third round into further and further
  1500. 49:01extensions
1501. 49:02and that's why my ten point go to the
1502. 49:04opposition team in this round
1503. 49:05okay right thank you hill
1504. 49:10stuart yeah i think this is probably the
  1505. 49:14best round
1506. 49:14i've seen so far in the debate is to be
1507. 49:16honest with you the whole show
1508. 49:18the whole show up today i think this has
1509. 49:20been my favorite round um
1510. 49:22for the the proposition sides um
1511. 49:26you came in and you developed those
1512. 49:28ideas from your previous rounds
1513. 49:29really really well um for me actually i
  1514. 49:32know i mentioned at the start
1515. 49:33a lot of what i wanted the teams to
1516. 49:36focus on was their timing
1517. 49:37i think you actually managed to do that
1518. 49:38fantastically you managed to include
  1519. 49:40your uh
1520. 49:41rebuttals but you also managed to kind
1521. 49:43of develop and uh strengthen your points
1522. 49:45and for me it didn't feel uh that rushed
  1523. 49:48towards the ends
  1524. 49:50um i know there's still a bit of room to
1525. 49:52to kind of utilize in your reply speech
  1526. 49:54but i think actually your timing
1527. 49:56for your round was was fantastic for the
  1528. 49:57opposition side
1529. 49:59for me the strength was really uh in
1530. 50:01your that the points that you uh
  1531. 50:03developed and i think
1532. 50:04actually something that may not have
  1533. 50:06been fully addressed um
1534. 50:08by the other side is that well why can't
  1535. 50:10there be a coexistence of choice
  1536. 50:12feminism
1537. 50:12and traditional feminism and and i think
1538. 50:16you guys pushed that idea quite well and
  1539. 50:18also you know
1540. 50:20why should there be an added layer of
  1541. 50:21burden from a feminist movement onto a
  1542. 50:24new form of feminism whilst there's
  1543. 50:26already
1544. 50:26this kind of layer of pressure from
1545. 50:28other external forces as well
  1546. 50:30and so for me
1547. 50:34it's difficult um but i think in terms
  1548. 50:37of the strength
1549. 50:39of the points themselves uh i would go
  1550. 50:42for
1551. 50:42minhoy with the opposition side okay
  1552. 50:47all right
1553. 50:50i think that it is clear that code did
  1554. 50:53an amazing job
1555. 50:55for the rebuttals part i must say that
1556. 50:57there is basically nothing else to add
  1557. 50:59on like your
1558. 51:00rebuttals was so on point nice priority
1559. 51:04of the ideas and how you basically
  1560. 51:06tackle
1561. 51:07every single thing even the smallest
  1562. 51:09detail and i must say that
  1563. 51:11if i were there i i must say that i
1564. 51:13might not be able to do as well as you
1565. 51:15but when i look back at the whole
1566. 51:19case in here there were some ideas i
1567. 51:21cannot fully credit for them
1568. 51:23because they look quite new to me
1569. 51:25especially about the unlying idea and
  1570. 51:27how you
1571. 51:28lift everything up to individualism in
1572. 51:30the society level i know that those are
1573. 51:32great ideas and i know that there are
  1574. 51:34some judges
1575. 51:35that can consider crediting for them but
1576. 51:38i cannot fully credit for everything you
  1577. 51:40say
1578. 51:41so when i look back of the case of both
1579. 51:44team i see that there is still
1580. 51:45some light for the proposition side i
1581. 51:48think the opposition side have not
1582. 51:50put out completely uh for the props i i
1583. 51:53do believe you did a great job today
  1584. 51:55because comparing between
1585. 51:57the case i think that the case of the
1586. 51:59prop site is more probably you know like
  1587. 52:01planned out
1588. 52:02it was easier easier to follow than the
  1589. 52:04case of the upside
1590. 52:06i must say that in this turn i'm not
1591. 52:08going to judge based on
  1592. 52:09individual performance i'm going to give
  1593. 52:12one more chance
1594. 52:13for the proposition sign because
1595. 52:15honestly the upside has not win
1596. 52:18in this debate completely so i'm going
1597. 52:20to give my 10 points to the prop sign in
  1598. 52:22this debate today
  1599. 52:24all right this is a very
1600. 52:27interesting turn of events but i want to
  1601. 52:30start with you
1602. 52:31okay please correct me if i'm wrong but
1603. 52:34when you started your speech you made a
1604. 52:36little joke about their team name is
  1605. 52:37that correct
1606. 52:38a little bit that was a joke right i
  1607. 52:40just uh it's just a good joke because
1608. 52:42they are my friend they're all my

1622. 53:08team name early on in a speech
1623. 53:10um i think it was fine because our
1624. 53:11second speaker we also kind of made
  1625. 53:13light of
1626. 53:14our name when he said kind of like to
1627. 53:15have true happiness women need to have
1628. 53:17their own choice so okay yeah
1629. 53:19i think it was like a back and forth on
1630. 53:20that name yeah because when you said
  1631. 53:21that like your face
1632. 53:23i just it was priceless i hope they

1635. 53:29much please go back to your seats thank
  1636. 53:31you
1637. 53:31so currently right now we just finished
  1638. 53:33the third debate
  1639. 53:34team choco chips has 40 points
  1640. 53:38team th x has 50 points
1641. 53:42there's still 15 more points to give
1642. 53:44from the judges in the final reply
  1643. 53:46speech
1644. 53:46however we'll get back to you right
  1645. 53:48after the break
  1646. 53:51[Music]
1647. 53:54woman women are unable to recognize that
1648. 53:57using makeup is the product of
  1649. 53:59the patriarchal society that
1650. 54:00continuously must the idea be
1651. 54:03abused this standard but even if you are
  1652. 54:05not pushing uh say
1653. 54:06uh choice feminism right what are you
1654. 54:08going to tell these sort of women who
1655. 54:10are backed into a corner what are they
  1656. 54:11going to
1657. 54:12be doing right so now with the
1658. 54:13proposition team i want to focus more on
  1659. 54:15the
1660. 54:17the clash resolution rather than the
  1661. 54:22rebounders
  1662. 54:26[Music]
1663. 54:27welcome back to the debater season
1664. 54:29streak this is the quarter finals and
  1665. 54:31the final reply
  1666. 54:33speech there is a 10 point difference
1667. 54:36left and the judges have 15 more points
  1668. 54:38to give
1669. 54:39and this final reply speech is quite
  1670. 54:41interesting because one
1671. 54:42it's the quarterfinals and two it's also
1672. 54:45a battle of the british
1673. 54:46accents yes let me please welcome the
1674. 54:49contestants to the final reply speech
1675. 54:52from the proposition team please welcome
  1676. 54:55wang chang
1677. 54:58okay from the opposition team please
  1678. 55:01welcome roland
1679. 55:06all right yes you are down 10 points
1680. 55:10how are you feeling yeah i can feel a
1681. 55:12lot of pressure in my shoulder right now
1682. 55:14but yeah because all the judges need to
  1683. 55:17win
1684. 55:18so all the judges right here need to
1685. 55:20give you the five points in order for
  1686. 55:21your team to win
  1687. 55:22yes it's so hard especially
1688. 55:26in front of me who i consider to be
  1689. 55:29really really smart
1690. 55:30yes i actually would consider all of you
  1691. 55:32to be very very
  1692. 55:34smart contestants so min
1693. 55:38i think in the first round you won 20
  1694. 55:40points correct
1695. 55:41do you think you can win just one judge
1696. 55:44that's all you need you just need
1697. 55:45one judge how about three
1698. 55:50zhang oi did you hear that yes the
  1699. 55:53confidence is
1700. 55:54radiating so you're going to try to win
  1701. 55:55all three judges
1702. 55:57of course i love this this is getting
  1703. 56:00good
1704. 56:01jang is your confidence kind of going
1705. 56:03down a little bit at the moment
1706. 56:04no actually i believe in my voice
1707. 56:08and my accent ooh okay speaking of
  1708. 56:10accent
  1709. 56:11all right min yes
1710. 56:15final reply speech you have two minutes
  1711. 56:18to deliver your speech
1712. 56:19and poi is not open do you guys
  1713. 56:23understand
1714. 56:24proposition team you are going second to
  1715. 56:27opposition team
1716. 56:28min you are going first are you guys
  1717. 56:30ready
  1718. 56:31yes awesome i am very excited
  1719. 56:34let the debate begin
  1720. 56:38[Music]
1721. 56:41but if all women were as strong as the
1722. 56:43pop as the proposition assumes them to
  1723. 56:45be
1724. 56:45what then is the point of campaigning
  1725. 56:48for women's rights in your case
1726. 56:50you have provided that lead us with no
1727. 56:52sort of mechanism no sort of system
1728. 56:54therefore your impact on your case
1729. 56:57arguments are also applicable to your
1730. 56:59own side so therefore we think that
1731. 57:01in terms of their own case throughout
  1732. 57:03this debate we've seen nothing that
1733. 57:04separates them from our own world
1734. 57:07we've only seen them criticizing the
1735. 57:09rise of choice feminism why was damaging
  1736. 57:11to women themselves and
1737. 57:12damaging to the movement however we do
1738. 57:14not see how that stands out from our
  1739. 57:16world
1740. 57:16where we also maintain your own
  1741. 57:18traditional feminism
1742. 57:20however when we take into account choice
  1743. 57:22feminism as well we're also benefiting
1744. 57:24women from developing countries the
1745. 57:25people who you seem to be forgetting so
  1746. 57:28much
1747. 57:28throughout this debate and your
  1748. 57:30worldview is sort of
1749. 57:32like a very eurocentric view where you
1750. 57:34do not take into account you assume that
  1751. 57:35every woman
1752. 57:36is as strong as you can think them to be
1753. 57:38you can think of them to be
1754. 57:40when they try to do what conservative
  1755. 57:42people think is obscene
1756. 57:44it stands against them after we already
  1757. 57:46demonstrated
1758. 57:47with our third and second speaker it
1759. 57:48creates a sort of animosity against the
  1760. 57:51movement
1761. 57:51we are you're only trying to tell us
1762. 57:54that you are damaging it further because
1763. 57:56you're trying to make sure that these
  1764. 57:57people
1765. 57:58are being pushed as far as possible
  1766. 58:00pushed as radically
1767. 58:01as possible your case well in comparison
1768. 58:04to our case when we present
1769. 58:06with a conservative people the view that
  1770. 58:08when a
1771. 58:09husband moves into a marriage and when
  1772. 58:11their
1773. 58:12wife chooses to be housewife instead of
  1774. 58:14him forcing it
  1775. 58:15on that woman isn't that enough of a
  1776. 58:17woman's liberation isn't that enough of
  1777. 58:19a push
  1778. 58:20towards gradually achieving the woman's
  1779. 58:22liberation
1780. 58:23instead of when on your side you're
1781. 58:25creating no sort of benefit
1782. 58:27you're creating no sort of distinction
1783. 58:28and that's why on our side we were the
  1784. 58:30victor today
1785. 58:36so let me compare what we've done today
  1786. 58:39in terms of individual
1787. 58:41well we we all agree that we have to
  1788. 58:44focus on
1789. 58:44the women who are underprivileged who
1790. 58:47have a lot of pressure on their shoulder
1791. 58:49so they said that they will let
1792. 58:52the women choose what they want and that
  1793. 58:55is the free will
1794. 58:56however we have successfully uh
1795. 58:59proved that it is not actually it is not
  1796. 59:03necessary their free will and they're
  1797. 59:05free like
  1798. 59:06once they're free they truly dream
  1799. 59:09demand
1800. 59:10which can lead to their true happiness
  1801. 59:12but because
1802. 59:13they are underprivileged they will just
1803. 59:15want it easy and they can excuse
1804. 59:17is my way and they can accept the
1805. 59:20background and they will compromise it
1806. 59:22so we believe that once you still uh
1807. 59:25let them choose what they want you will
  1808. 59:28let them choose
1809. 59:29like you still let the bad choices
1810. 59:32uh to be in your cases so in in our case
1811. 59:36we don't let them choose the bad uh the
  1812. 59:38bad choices
1813. 59:39so that we believe we are the one who
  1814. 59:41can truly
1815. 59:42bring the true happiness to um
1816. 59:45women who can let them um to
1817. 59:49the higher position in the society so in
  1818. 59:52terms of
1819. 59:52uh society uh we all agree that we are
1820. 59:56here today for the society
1821. 59:57to fight against the prejudice in the
  1822. 1:00:00society
1823. 1:00:01and this is strong we all know that
  1824. 1:00:03because here we are
1825. 1:00:05like in the third world countries the
  1826. 1:00:06prejudice is strong
1827. 1:00:08so that diversity and liberty cannot
1828. 1:00:11like really fight that we really have we
  1829. 1:00:14do
1830. 1:00:15really need the collective hey to fight
  1831. 1:00:18those
1832. 1:00:18um strong prejudices and we we are the
  1833. 1:00:21one
1834. 1:00:22who have all the women to fight one way
1835. 1:00:25to fight one prejudice and to win that
  1836. 1:00:28prejudice
1837. 1:00:28we have all the women together to
1838. 1:00:32win that prejudice so we are here today
  1839. 1:00:35proud to propose
  1840. 1:00:39we're done yes we're officially
1841. 1:00:42done no more debating jang you happy
