  1. 0:00Welcome to the Daily Wire Strikes Back
  2. 0:03stage. I'm Jeremy Boring, lowercase G,
  3. 0:06lowercase K God King. Tonight, we're
  4. 0:08going to be talking cancel culture in an
  5. 0:10effort to answer the age-old question,
  6. 0:12just how rich is the left trying to make
  7. 0:13us with all this bullcrap?
  8. 0:30Today's show is sponsored by ExpressVPN.
  9. 0:32Don't let Big Tech track what you do.

  12. 0:39I'm joined, per usual, by Smoking Mike
  13. 0:41Knowles, by Bartholomew Walsh, by the
  14. 0:44ghost of Andrew Klavan, and by the
  15. 0:45finest Ben Shapiro clone money can buy,
  16. 0:48still cheaper than the original, and of
  17. 0:50course, by the lovely one herself, Mrs.
  18. 0:52Elisha Krauss, here to take your
  19. 0:53questions. Elisha.
  20. 0:56Hey, how are you guys doing? And welcome
  21. 0:58to the Empire Strikes Back stage.
  22. 1:02The Daily Wire Strikes Back stage.
  23. 1:03Although, I don't know why you guys want
  24. 1:04to be relating to the Empire. I thought
  25. 1:06that we were the good guys and the woke
  26. 1:08mob that tried to cancel Gina was the
  27. 1:10Empire. But anyway,
  28. 1:11You're overthinking this, Elisha. You're
  29. 1:12overthinking [laughter] it.
  30. 1:14Sorry, I'm just trying to be accurate,
  31. 1:16God King. Anyway, it has been one of the
  32. 1:18biggest months in the Daily Wire history
  33. 1:20and we are so excited. I love the Sunday
  34. 1:22special with Gina and Ben. And we're
  35. 1:24going to tell you guys, this is just the
  36. 1:26beginning. Ben still needs to introduce
  37. 1:28Gina and I so we can be BFFs and go for
  38. 1:30many petties and then she can teach me
  39. 1:31how to be a badass so I can beat up
  40. 1:32Michael Knowles. But if you're just as
  41. 1:34excited as I am, then you can be a part
  42. 1:37of this huge movement by joining us at
  43. 1:39the Daily Wire. As always, I will be
  44. 1:41answering your questions tonight
  45. 1:42throughout the show and only Daily Wire
  46. 1:44members can ask the questions later on
  47. 1:46throughout the show tonight. And if
  48. 1:48you're not a member, then you ask, oh,
  49. 1:50how can I become a member? Well, just
  50. 1:51head on over to dailywire.com/subscribe
  51. 1:54and you can get 25% off if you use the
  52. 1:57code debunked. That code is very
  53. 2:00specific because it is also the name of
  54. 2:02Ben Shapiro's new show, debunked, in
  55. 2:04which he talks about massive leftist
  56. 2:06myths that he's going to debunk every
  57. 2:09single episode. The first episode is
  58. 2:11this Friday, February 26th. Be sure to
  59. 2:14check it out. But after you go to
  60. 2:16dailywire.com/subscribe,
  61. 2:18use code debunked for 25% off because
  62. 2:21who doesn't love a good sale? I know I
  63. 2:22do. So you're typical, right? So go to
  64. 2:24dailywire.com/subscribe,
  65. 2:26use that code debunked, ask the
  66. 2:29questions, I'll throw them to the guys
  67. 2:31later throughout the night.
  68. 2:33Thanks, Elisha.
  69. 2:33expressvpn.com/backstage.
  70. 2:36I said that so that the guys in
  71. 2:38post-production can fix the fact that I
  72. 2:39didn't say dot com the first time.
  73. 2:42Fellas, [laughter]
  74. 2:43we had an unbelievable
  75. 2:45last 2 weeks because the left has
  76. 2:47decided Yeah. in their infinite wisdom
  77. 2:51that making us just insanely wealthy
  78. 2:54[laughter]
  79. 2:55is their top priority. They've decided
  80. 2:57that they're going to cancel many, many
  81. 2:59valuable Hollywood entertainers and we
  82. 3:02have decided that we are going to make
  83. 3:05movies with those people, specifically
  84. 3:07with Gina Carano.
  85. 3:08Elisha mentioned the Sunday special,
  86. 3:10Ben.
  87. 3:11It really was. I think it may have been
  88. 3:12the best Sunday special ever. Gina
  89. 3:14telling her side of the story
  90. 3:16was just remarkable. I want to talk
  91. 3:18about what happened to Gina specifically
  92. 3:19for the three or four people who live
  93. 3:21under rocks and didn't
  94. 3:22pick up on it, but what I really want to
  95. 3:23talk about
  96. 3:25is the bifurcation of the culture, the
  97. 3:27bifurcation of the economy, the the the
  98. 3:30tragedy and the comedy of the whole
  99. 3:31thing, and the opportunities that it
  100. 3:33presents. So, would you mind walking us
  101. 3:34just briefly through Gina's story? So, I
  102. 3:36mean, the the way that Gina told it, and
  103. 3:38and first of all, you should watch the
  104. 3:39the Sunday special because it really
  105. 3:41does allow you to see her side of the
  106. 3:42story in her own words. And Gina is just
  107. 3:44a lovely human being. She's a wonderful,
  108. 3:46lovely human being. I had her over for a
  109. 3:48Friday night dinners. We actually had
  110. 3:49charades together. It was really nice.
  111. 3:50My kids loved her. And and what happened
  112. 3:53to Gina basically is that she tweeted a
  113. 3:55bunch of stuff that Disney didn't like.
  114. 3:56None of it was particularly horrifying
  115. 3:58or controversial. And they fired her. I
  116. 4:00mean, it really is that simple. It
  117. 4:02started off when she had tweeted a joke
  118. 4:04about the pressure that people receive
  119. 4:05online to put their pronouns in their in
  120. 4:07their Twitter profiles. She'd put in her
  121. 4:09Twitter profile beep boop boop, which is
  122. 4:10actually pretty funny.
  123. 4:11Pretty funny. I don't know if you're
  124. 4:12good. droid noises.
  125. 4:14[laughter]
  126. 4:14And and Disney like calls her into a
  127. 4:16room and they they wanted her to have
  128. 4:18kind of the woke mob do a Zoom session
  129. 4:20with her and she said, I don't really
  130. 4:21want to do that. I want to actually get
  131. 4:22in a room and talk with actual human
  132. 4:23beings. And and they they finally kind
  133. 4:26of let her do that. And then they would
  134. 4:27not let her do any press basically from
  135. 4:29then on. They cut her out of all of the
  136. 4:30press materials for The Mandalorian even
  137. 4:32though she's one of the bigger stars in
  138. 4:33the show.
  139. 4:34And then you fast forward and
  140. 4:36post-election, she started tweeting
  141. 4:38things that are fairly well accepted in
  142. 4:40conservative circles. Like, if you want
  143. 4:41to crack down on voter fraud, perhaps
  144. 4:42there should be voter ID. Right? She
  145. 4:44tweeted that like 2 days after the
  146. 4:45election. And people are like, oh, this
  147. 4:46means that she is in favor of lies about
  148. 4:48the No, that's that's not what she
  149. 4:50tweeted. And then a few days later, she
  150. 4:52tweeted something about how Americans
  151. 4:54should remove the mask from their eyes
  152. 4:55so they can see what's actually going on
  153. 4:56with regard to COVID. Again, this is a
  154. 4:58fairly mainstream conservative position,
  155. 5:00even for people like me. Plus, it
  156. 5:01doesn't even protect you from the virus.
  157. 5:03[laughter]
  158. 5:04If it's on your eyes, If it's on your
  159. 5:05eyes. Yeah, in any case, that that was
  160. 5:07that was really not particularly
  161. 5:09controversial. And then she tweeted out
  162. 5:11this this meme that was just a picture,
  163. 5:14very famous picture from the Holocaust,
  164. 5:16of a Jewish woman running away from
  165. 5:18German soldiers. And the text next to it
  166. 5:21was
  167. 5:22fairly generic. It just said,
  168. 5:24these sorts of evils don't happen in a
  169. 5:26vacuum. They start off with people
  170. 5:27dehumanizing other human beings. And if
  171. 5:28you treat people horribly, then
  172. 5:30eventually you could end up at this
  173. 5:31place. And so, you should remember this
  174. 5:33when you treat people horribly because
  175. 5:34of their politics, which is a fairly
  176. 5:36reasonable, generic statement. Now, I'm
  177. 5:38not a huge fan of Holocaust comparisons
  178. 5:39cuz I generally feel that most of them
  179. 5:40are overwrought, but there was nothing
  180. 5:41remotely anti-Semitic about this one.
  181. 5:43And in the and in the world of Holocaust
  182. 5:45comparisons, this one ranks like the
  183. 5:47lowest 10% in terms of controversial
  184. 5:48because that's a pretty generic
  185. 5:49statement about dehumanization of other
  186. 5:51people. In fact, I've seen the Auschwitz
  187. 5:53Memorial Museum put out very similar
  188. 5:54tweets actually about the generic nature
  189. 5:56of dehumanizing other people and how
  190. 5:58that leads to problems down the road
  191. 6:00including death for people. And so, you
  192. 6:02know, this turned into a big hullabaloo
  193. 6:04with Disney and Lucas Film deciding that
  194. 6:06it was time for Gina to be ousted.
  195. 6:07Apparently, this had been in the works
  196. 6:08for a couple of months. They had been
  197. 6:09meaning to announce her as a spin-off
  198. 6:11star from The Mandalorian in in one of
  199. 6:13their own series. They had canceled that
  200. 6:15in in December and they were looking for
  201. 6:16an excuse to can her. They used this as
  202. 6:18the excuse to can her despite the fact
  203. 6:19that Pedro Pascal, the actual star of
  204. 6:21The Mandalorian, had tweeted out a meme
  205. 6:22comparing Auschwitz to kids being held
  206. 6:24in cages in 2018 using a picture that
  207. 6:27was from the Palestinian Authority in
  208. 6:282014.
  209. 6:30And it was and of course, no blowback to
  210. 6:32that. So, you basically, after they can
  211. 6:34sell her and she found out about this
  212. 6:36essentially via the social media, the
  213. 6:38way we did.
  214. 6:39Same way we did.
  215. 6:39Right? I mean, we found out about the
  216. 6:40exact same time that Gina did. They
  217. 6:41didn't even give her the courtesy of a
  218. 6:42call. They just said, you're not coming
  219. 6:44back. That's it. In social media. Right?
  220. 6:46And and we saw this here at Daily Wire
  221. 6:48and we reached out. I reached out to her
  222. 6:50personally.
  223. 6:51And I said, listen, this is
  224. 6:52it's really tragic what's happening to
  225. 6:54you because it's not about the money,
  226. 6:56it's about the dream. If you ever go to
  227. 6:57Hollywood and you you work with folks in
  228. 6:59Hollywood and pretty much all of us
  229. 7:00except for Matt have actually have
  230. 7:02actually done this.
  231. 7:03People who move out to Hollywood move
  232. 7:04out there because their dream is to be
  233. 7:06in a show like The Mandalorian. I mean,
  234. 7:08it's the biggest show in TV right now.
  235. 7:10And to have a starring role in that. And
  236. 7:12to take that away from somebody
  237. 7:13summarily and to destroy their career in
  238. 7:14the process because they released a
  239. 7:15statement saying essentially she was an
  240. 7:17anti-Semite and that she was a racist
  241. 7:18and all this stuff.
  242. 7:19They categorized people on the basis of
  243. 7:20religion and ethnicity.
  244. 7:21Right? I mean, it's just a lie. It's
  245. 7:22just not true. And they and and for them
  246. 7:25to do that was an act of cruelty. It's
  247. 7:27an act of true cruelty. So, so I called
  248. 7:29her up and and I said to her, you know,
  249. 7:31it's terrible what's happening to you,
  250. 7:33but it's a real opportunity to punch
  251. 7:35back at these bastards. And we should
  252. 7:36punch back at them because nobody has
  253. 7:37ever said to them, you know what? Fine.
  254. 7:40You want to cancel me? I'm not canceled
  255. 7:41because there's a whole side of the
  256. 7:42political aisle that doesn't agree that
  257. 7:43I should be canceled. And so, you know
  258. 7:45what? I'm just going to go do my own
  259. 7:46thing over here. And so, that's when we
  260. 7:47announced and she good for her because
  261. 7:49it was an act of bravery on her part.
  262. 7:50For us, it was an opportunity, right?
  263. 7:52For us, it I mean, I'll be to be honest
  264. 7:54with you, whenever somebody in
  265. 7:56mainstream in in her mainstream culture
  266. 7:58is canceled, I put in a call. So, I
  267. 7:59probably put in over the course of the
  268. 8:00last four or five years at least 50
  269. 8:03calls to various mainstream figures who
  270. 8:04have been canceled for bad reasons. It's
  271. 8:06It's something that I just do on regular
  272. 8:08whether they're liberal or conservative.
  273. 8:09There are many people on the left I've
  274. 8:10done this for. And Gina was just another
  275. 8:12person who's like that. But Gina really
  276. 8:13took up the opportunity and said, okay,
  277. 8:15let's do this. This is an opportunity.
  278. 8:16I've been wanting to do this anyway.
  279. 8:18I don't deserve to be canceled and
  280. 8:20Americans need to be able to stand up
  281. 8:21for themselves. So, I'm happy to come
  282. 8:23over here and I'm happy to make a movie
  283. 8:24with you guys. And we could not be more
  284. 8:26pumped up about it. Our audience
  285. 8:27certainly couldn't be more pumped up.
  286. 8:28That is the biggest week in the history
  287. 8:29of the Daily Wire. I think people miss
  288. 8:30that
  289. 8:32Gina Carano is a real human. I mean,
  290. 8:34sometimes you read these stories about
  291. 8:35us or about political figures or about
  292. 8:37entertainment figures and we're
  293. 8:38two-dimensional. And that makes sense
  294. 8:40cuz we come to you on a screen, which
  295. 8:41automatic which makes us
  296. 8:42two-dimensional. Also because we have no
  297. 8:44souls and
  298. 8:44Yeah,
  299. 8:45I personally am two-dimensional.
  300. 8:47But Gina is an actual human. Yeah.
  301. 8:49They took they took her career away from
  302. 8:51her.
  303. 8:52Her agent dropped her. Her
  304. 8:54her
  305. 8:55attorney dropped her.
  306. 8:57Her publicist dropped her. Like, they
  307. 8:58took all the tools necessary to have a
  308. 9:00career away from her. They took the
  309. 9:02biggest show away from her.
  310. 9:04They took her ability to pay her bills
  311. 9:06away from her. They took her good name
  312. 9:07away from her. Lucas Film called her
  313. 9:09aberrant, said that she categorized
  314. 9:11people on the basis of religion and
  315. 9:12ethnicity, which she did not do. Funda I
  316. 9:15mean, it's it's defamation because it is
  317. 9:17100% untrue. That's not even a possible
  318. 9:20interpretation of the things that she
  319. 9:23has said.
  320. 9:24The fact that we were even able to get
  321. 9:25her on the phone in that situation, I
  322. 9:27think is fairly remarkable. She was
  323. 9:29having what must be one of the worst
  324. 9:31days Mhm. that a person can possibly
  325. 9:34endure when their career and their good
  326. 9:36name have
  327. 9:37Short of having a serious health
  328. 9:38problem, that's about as bad as it gets
  329. 9:39right there. But but you know, the the
  330. 9:40terrific thing about it and the reason
  331. 9:41I'm so glad you guys acted, I really I
  332. 9:43hate to compliment you because you know
  333. 9:45who you are. But but still, I I really
  334. 9:47am happy you acted is because
  335. 9:49we all support free speech. And that
  336. 9:51means when they take an Alex Jones off
  337. 9:53the air, I'm offended. I think Alex
  338. 9:55Jones should have a platform. I think
  339. 9:56he's he's a loon, but he should have a
  340. 9:58platform because who cares? You know, we
  341. 10:00can defeat him we can defeat his crazy.
  342. 10:02And they're making the frogs gay. With
  343. 10:03the truth. Yeah, they are making the
  344. 10:04frogs gay. They're making the frogs gay.
  345. 10:06And you know, but but the thing is we're
  346. 10:08defending a guy that we don't agree with
  347. 10:10that we think is is out of his mind.
  348. 10:12Here's a case where this woman did
  349. 10:14literally 0% wrong. He she her her tweet
  350. 10:18and I'm with you. I don't like Holocaust
  351. 10:20comparisons cuz they're over the top,
  352. 10:22but she didn't really even deal with
  353. 10:24that. She was making a perfectly valid
  354. 10:26point that you begin by dehumanizing
  355. 10:28people and you end by hurting them and
  356. 10:30that's what is happening in our society.
  357. 10:32It's a perfectly valid point.
  358. 10:34We're defending somebody who was
  359. 10:35actually wronged and that is a terrific
  360. 10:37position to be in because the left has
  361. 10:39been very clever and they go after the
  362. 10:41people on the
  363. 10:41And they they proved their point, too,
  364. 10:43because they they That's right. Not that
  365. 10:45they're going to cart her off to a
  366. 10:45concentration camp, but they dehumanized
  367. 10:47her Yeah.
  368. 10:48by by labeling her anti-semite, by lying
  369. 10:51about her, saying her saying that she
  370. 10:53was was, you know, categorizing people
  371. 10:55based on race and
  372. 10:56ethnicity. That's just flatly wrong.
  373. 10:59They know that they're lying, but they
  374. 11:01figure well, she deserves to be lied
  375. 11:02about and to be slandered because she's
  376. 11:04wrong about all these other things.
  377. 11:05Well, what was great There are two
  378. 11:06aspects of this that I want to talk
  379. 11:07about. I actually want to talk about
  380. 11:09Holocaust comparisons generally and I
  381. 11:11want to talk about what it means that
  382. 11:12they canceled someone on the basis of
  383. 11:14nothing. But first, I'm going to talk to
  384. 11:16you about our friends over at Express
  385. 11:18VPN. I mean, there's just one question.
  386. 11:19Why haven't you gotten a VPN yet? Ladies
  387. 11:21and gentlemen, I'll tell you there's
  388. 11:23never been a more important time to
  389. 11:24protect your digital rights. That's why
  390. 11:26I and thousands of my listeners, I'm
  391. 11:27joking, thousands of Ben's listeners
  392. 11:29choose to secure our online data by
  393. 11:32using ExpressVPN. Did you maybe believe
  394. 11:34a VPN isn't for you because you can use
  395. 11:36the internet fine without one? Sure, but
  396. 11:38anytime you go online, your internet
  397. 11:40service provider can see every single
  398. 11:42site that you're visiting. That's not a
  399. 11:44good idea. It's particularly not a good
  400. 11:46idea when Big Tech is so arrayed against
  401. 11:48us, when they collude against us. It's
  402. 11:50not a good idea when there are so many
  403. 11:52bad actors around the world trying to
  404. 11:54take advantage of your personal
  405. 11:55information. Take back your privacy at
  406. 11:57expressvpn.com/backstage
  407. 12:00and you'll get three extra months for
  408. 12:02free on a one-year package when you use
  409. 12:04expressvpn.com
  410. 12:06and throw in that {slash} backstage.
  411. 12:08That's how you get those three extra
  412. 12:09months for absolutely free.
  413. 12:11expressvpn.com/backstage. Head over
  414. 12:12there right now.
  415. 12:16Michael. Yes. They canceled her
  416. 12:19for nothing. Yeah.
  417. 12:20Why did they cancel her? They canceled
  418. 12:22her because it's very wrong to make any
  419. 12:27comparison to the Holocaust, especially
  420. 12:29after we just had literally Hitler be
  421. 12:31president for years. So, you're not you
  422. 12:33can't do that sort of thing. You know,
  423. 12:35it this is what is most chilling to me.
  424. 12:38We all support the American free speech
  425. 12:40tradition in the in this room. The left
  426. 12:42does not. We all support it. But we all
  427. 12:44think there were there are some things
  428. 12:45that if you, you know, if you walk up to
  429. 12:47the water cooler and you say Sieg Heil
  430. 12:49or, you know, you do something
  431. 12:51I think you should lose your job. I
  432. 12:52don't think you should be allowed to
  433. 12:53keep your movie or whatever. I think
  434. 12:54there are some things that are out of
  435. 12:56bounds.
  436. 12:58There are always things that are out of
  437. 12:59bounds.
  438. 13:00What this woman did was make an
  439. 13:03absolutely mainstream
  440. 13:06opinion that we all everybody left,
  441. 13:09right, and center would have agreed on
  442. 13:10even five or six years ago. But now they
  443. 13:13have so moved the goalposts in this
  444. 13:15country that if you if you have an
  445. 13:16American flag outside your house, you
  446. 13:19could be s- See, I'm actually not sure
  447. 13:21that this is right. I think that she was
  448. 13:23canceled for nothing
  449. 13:25because it was nothing. I think that
  450. 13:27we're living through a change in what
  451. 13:29cancel culture is and what the woke mob
  452. 13:31wants, that it's no longer about
  453. 13:33enforcing their rules. I think that it's
  454. 13:36it's like the Great Terror. I think it's
  455. 13:38just the imposition. Yes. I think that
  456. 13:40the arbitrariness of it. I think the
  457. 13:42randomness of it is actually part of the
  458. 13:44terror. If they can take down Gina for
  459. 13:46nothing, then they can take down you for
  460. 13:49Well, you see this happening. I mean,
  461. 13:50the rules are changing every single day.
  462. 13:52I mean, they're changing every single
  463. 13:53day and things that are overtly
  464. 13:54non-racist are now being treated as
  465. 13:56racist. I mean, you have Don McNeil
  466. 13:57losing his job at the New York Times for
  467. 13:59using the N-word to describe why using
  468. 14:01the N-word is wrong. Right? And in what
  469. 14:02situations using the N-word is wrong.
  470. 14:04You see the guy over at Slate, Mike
  471. 14:05Pesca, right? We're not big fans of
  472. 14:07Slate over here. Slate fired a guy for
  473. 14:09saying that maybe we should have a
  474. 14:10discussion about when use of the N-word
  475. 14:12is appropriate in like, for example,
  476. 14:13quoting someone who used the N-word. And
  477. 14:15they were and people at Slate were like,
  478. 14:16"Nope, can't have that." They they laid
  479. 14:18Mike Pesca off. The
  480. 14:20I think the most ridiculous example of
  481. 14:22somebody being canceled for non-racism
  482. 14:23that I've seen in the recent past I it
  483. 14:25is not really even Gina, although that
  484. 14:27was ridiculous. I think that it's what's
  485. 14:29going on with Chris Harrison over at The
  486. 14:30Bachelor. Right? So, I'm not I'm not a a
  487. 14:32fan of The Bachelor because I am a man.
  488. 14:34I have testosterone that runs in my
  489. 14:36body, but there this is one of the
  490. 14:38cultural institutions of the United
  491. 14:40States over the last 25 years, right? I
  492. 14:41mean, it's been going since 2002. It has
  493. 14:43been
  494. 14:44The Bachelor has been
  495. 14:46on the air for a majority of my lifetime
  496. 14:48on this planet, right? It's been on
  497. 14:50forever. And right. And the and The
  498. 14:53Bachelor basically just collapsed over
  499. 14:55the course of the last month because
  500. 14:57there's a the first black bachelor
  501. 14:59and he was dating one of the women there
  502. 15:01was a woman named Rachael Kirkconnell.
  503. 15:03When she committed the heinous sin of in
  504. 15:042018 going to a party at a plantation
  505. 15:07that was dubbed a a plantation party or
  506. 15:10something and she wore like a Scarlett
  507. 15:11O'Hara dress. Antebellum party.
  508. 15:12Antebellum party. Okay? And the idea was
  509. 15:15that this was racist because you can't
  510. 15:16have an antebellum party without
  511. 15:17acknowledging the sins of slavery. Which
  512. 15:19again, I I just hate to note this for
  513. 15:21all of you.
  514. 15:22Well, right. Then then you can dress up
  515. 15:24as whatever you want, right? Uh but
  516. 15:26I I hate to note this for everybody, but
  517. 15:27if you wear a costume from virtually any
  518. 15:29historic period prior to 1820, that
  519. 15:31culture had slavery
  520. 15:32right? I mean, like if you if you dress
  521. 15:33up as a Viking, then there was there
  522. 15:35there was slavery back then. If you
  523. 15:37dress up as a Roman, there was lots of
  524. 15:38slavery back then. In any case,
  525. 15:40and the the idea was that she was a
  526. 15:42racist for having gone to this party in
  527. 15:432018. So, the the Bachelor, who spoiler
  528. 15:46alert for women who are still watching
  529. 15:47The Bachelor, but it's out of the bag
  530. 15:49now. He ended up picking this woman,
  531. 15:50right? Rachael Kirkconnell is the woman
  532. 15:52he ended up picking at the end of The
  533. 15:53Bachelor. And so, he put out a statement
  534. 15:55on February 3rd in which he said, you
  535. 15:57know, she should be given a little bit
  536. 15:58of grace. Social media shouldn't be
  537. 15:59going after her. They shouldn't be
  538. 16:00digging up her parents' voting record.
  539. 16:02Like, give her give her a break. And so,
  540. 16:03Chris Harrison, the host, was on a show
  541. 16:05with Rachael Lindsay, a former host of
  542. 16:07the she's the the former Bachelorette,
  543. 16:09first black Bachelorette, I think. And
  544. 16:10she was interviewing him and Chris
  545. 16:12Harrison said, "You should give her a
  546. 16:13little bit of grace, right? Social media
  547. 16:15shouldn't be judge, jury, and execution
  548. 16:16or people should be treated with a
  549. 16:17little bit of grace. She can explain
  550. 16:18herself." And Rachael Lindsay then
  551. 16:20suggested that Chris Harrison, for
  552. 16:22saying she deserved grace, ought to
  553. 16:23apologize and essentially lose his job.
  554. 16:26And then, a couple of weeks later, like
  555. 16:28just this week, Matt James, who
  556. 16:29originally had defended Rachael
  557. 16:31Kirkconnell and was dating Rachael
  558. 16:32Kirkconnell, he put out a statement over
  559. 16:33the last 24 hours saying that Rachael
  560. 16:35Kirkconnell was essentially a racist,
  561. 16:37that Chris Harrison was a racist, that
  562. 16:38The Bachelor was racist, and that it was
  563. 16:41it was unthinkable that Chris Harrison
  564. 16:43could have said what he said in front of
  565. 16:44Rachael Rachael Lindsay, who then was
  566. 16:46forced to do, and I quote, the emotional
  567. 16:48labor the emotional labor of explaining
  568. 16:51to him the history of racism and slavery
  569. 16:53in this country. Emotional labor for
  570. 16:54what? What?
  571. 16:55What No. F is emotional labor. I've seen
  572. 16:57actual physical labor. My wife's done it
  573. 16:59several times. It's much it's much the
  574. 17:01same. Uh I can't even make this joke. It
  575. 17:03is so over the top.
  576. 17:04[laughter]
  577. 17:05I know if I make this joke how mad Ben's
  578. 17:06going to be at me, but I will say this.
  579. 17:09The fact that he used the term emotional
  580. 17:11labor
  581. 17:12is proof that they got to him. Yeah,
  582. 17:14that's right.
  583. 17:14human being walks around with the term
  584. 17:16emotional labor
  585. 17:17in their frontal lobe except woke
  586. 17:19leftists. Yeah. And that means that
  587. 17:20somebody came and sat him down and said,
  588. 17:22"Listen,
  589. 17:23uh the girl you've been dating and
  590. 17:24obviously like
  591. 17:25she doesn't matter. The show that's the
  592. 17:27only reason you have a platform at all,
  593. 17:30that doesn't matter. The only thing that
  594. 17:31matters if you want to keep have if you
  595. 17:33want to keep your house and your uh
  596. 17:36career and your good name is that you
  597. 17:38freaking get out there and walk the
  598. 17:39line."
  599. 17:40That's right. And and it I mean, the the
  600. 17:41utter cowardice of throwing under the
  601. 17:43bus the girl you were dating, right? And
  602. 17:45calling her a racist and then saying the
  603. 17:46guy who said exactly what you said,
  604. 17:48exactly what you said, like within days,
  605. 17:50that that guy's a racist, but you you're
  606. 17:52you're perfect, right? You're perfect.
  607. 17:53Which that's amazing. What? By by the
  608. 17:54way, I just have to add the caper to
  609. 17:56this. So, the again, my producers who
  610. 17:58the only reason I know about The
  611. 17:59Bachelor is cuz I have two producers.
  612. 18:01Yes, they are they're female. And and
  613. 18:04they they inform me of this. They have a
  614. 18:05TV remote. That's why.
  615. 18:06[laughter]
  616. 18:07Uh producer Savvy and producer Jessica,
  617. 18:09I I will say that they keep me updated
  618. 18:11on this stuff on a granular level. Uh
  619. 18:13and and they made me aware of a post
  620. 18:15from Rachael Lindsay that happened in
  621. 18:16the middle of the Black Lives Matter
  622. 18:17movement in the summer. And this post
  623. 18:19was a picture of Rachael Lindsay
  624. 18:20standing, I kid you not, in front of a
  625. 18:23Cadillac XT6.
  626. 18:25And the post was, "When I am fighting on
  627. 18:27behalf of Black Lives Matter, the way
  628. 18:29that I like to learn about black history
  629. 18:31is through podcasts about black history
  630. 18:33that I listen to on my Bose sound system
  631. 18:36in my Cadillac XT5."
  632. 18:38[laughter]
  633. 18:38Capitalism number one always wins, but
  634. 18:40number two,
  635. 18:40So good. like this is the person who is
  636. 18:42standing up against the racism and of
  637. 18:44the capitalist evil American system.
  638. 18:46This is the person who's doing emotional
  639. 18:47labor. Emotional labor? You're standing
  640. 18:49in front of a Cadillac XT6 in a
  641. 18:51sponsored ad on Instagram [laughter]
  642. 18:54to preach about Black Lives Matter and
  643. 18:55you're the person who's supposed to be
  644. 18:56the the great pope of wokeness here? I
  645. 18:59mean, it's insanity. How dare you? gets
  646. 19:01me is what a is what a grift it all is.
  647. 19:03It's correct. You know, 15 years ago you
  648. 19:05were taught discussing in an academic
  649. 19:07context the use of the N-word and now
  650. 19:10you're fired. But if you're a black mom
  651. 19:12who wants her kid to go to school, that
  652. 19:15can't happen because teachers unions are
  653. 19:17keeping you out. You know, if Bill Gates
  654. 19:19literally put out a system for teaching
  655. 19:22algebra to black kids where you got rid
  656. 19:24of the concept of right and wrong.
  657. 19:26[laughter]
  658. 19:27And I just thought like that that may be
  659. 19:30and and I'm like I've been around a long
  660. 19:31time. That's one of the most racist I've
  661. 19:33ever
  662. 19:33[laughter]
  663. 19:34actually heard. And and so, it's all a
  664. 19:36grift, you know, it's all nobody's doing
  665. 19:38anything for anybody, but this emotional
  666. 19:40panic is And and the corporations are
  667. 19:42buying into it.
  668. 19:43by the way. It's white America. Well, it
  669. 19:44is. It I mean, this is what Shelby
  670. 19:46Steele writes about. It's a bunch of
  671. 19:47woke white folks who get to maintain
  672. 19:48control over the auspices of power by
  673. 19:50saying, "Black folks don't have to do
  674. 19:51the work. It's our job to do the work.
  675. 19:53All you have to do is give me power and
  676. 19:54I can fix all of these things." Exactly.
  677. 19:56And corporate America has bought into
  678. 19:58this that that that ridiculous
  679. 20:00anti-racism training that Coca-Cola, or
  680. 20:02as I now call them Woka-Cola, put out
  681. 20:03there. You talked about this on your
  682. 20:04show. Yeah. Yeah, I mean and that's why
  683. 20:06we have to stipulate, I think, with with
  684. 20:07cancel culture that
  685. 20:09it it is a left-wing phenomenon. I I
  686. 20:12know on the left they always want to
  687. 20:13accuse the right of, "Oh, you're doing
  688. 20:15cancel culture." Because we criticize
  689. 20:16someone for having, you know, for their
  690. 20:18opinion.
  691. 20:19But, you know how people on the left say
  692. 20:21that
  693. 20:22only white people can be racist because
  694. 20:24we have institutional power
  695. 20:26and black people don't. Well, we know
  696. 20:27that that's totally bogus because number
  697. 20:29one,
  698. 20:30racism is a condition of the heart.
  699. 20:32Anyone could be racist. Number two, we
  700. 20:33had a black president. You know, I
  701. 20:34consider that to be institutional power.
  702. 20:36But, with with cancel culture, that
  703. 20:38actually is about institutional power.
  704. 20:41You can't cancel someone unless you own
  705. 20:43the institutions. Canceling someone is
  706. 20:45all about
  707. 20:46they lose their job, they lose their
  708. 20:47reputation,
  709. 20:49they lose their credibility, they lose
  710. 20:50everything. We on the right,
  711. 20:52unfortunately, don't have the ability to
  712. 20:53do that.
  713. 20:55Only the left can do that. So, the left
  714. 20:57So, cancel culture is a left-wing thing.
  715. 21:00It's what the left does and I think we
  716. 21:02need to be clear about that in our
  717. 21:04definition of it. Because that's that's
  718. 21:06what I think it is. The collapse of
  719. 21:07corporate America into wokeism is one of
  720. 21:09the great disturbing elements of the
  721. 21:10last several decades. It really is
  722. 21:12amazing cuz we were all taught that
  723. 21:14after you leave college, that you were
  724. 21:15going to get in the real world and then
  725. 21:16the real world would be a meritocracy
  726. 21:18and and all of the all of the kind of
  727. 21:20emotional crap that you learned in
  728. 21:21college and the microaggression
  729. 21:23nonsense, all that was going to stop. It
  730. 21:24turns out those people just took over
  731. 21:25the institutions and now you get it
  732. 21:27twice as hard from the corporations and
  733. 21:29the corporations have a real interest in
  734. 21:30promoting this stuff because number one,
  735. 21:32it's a great way to avoid liability,
  736. 21:34like discrimination liability. You say,
  737. 21:35"Oh, you know, we hired Robin DiAngelo
  738. 21:37for 20 grand to teach all of our people
  739. 21:39that they're racist. So, I mean, how can
  740. 21:40you sue us for that?" And also, all your
  741. 21:43woke staffers are the ones who are most
  742. 21:44likely to sue you. So, if you just give
  743. 21:45in to them, then they won't sue you.
  744. 21:47But, has anyone sued yet? I mean, we're
  745. 21:48waiting for a white They're They're at a
  746. 21:50point right now in these corporations
  747. 21:52where they actually single out. They
  748. 21:53say, "This is only for the white
  749. 21:54employees. Come to the room and we're
  750. 21:56going to tell you what a scumbag you
  751. 21:57are." Has any white employee actually
  752. 21:59stood up and said, "This is racial
  753. 22:00harassment"? But, look look what happens
  754. 22:02when you you know, when when Asian
  755. 22:03students sued Harvard, right? It wasn't
  756. 22:05white students suing about the
  757. 22:07affirmative action policies. It was
  758. 22:08Asian students who were also
  759. 22:09disadvantaged. The Asian students sue,
  760. 22:11what happens? Doesn't go anywhere. The
  761. 22:13DOJ under Trump looks into Yale for
  762. 22:16doing exactly the same thing. They're
  763. 22:17disadvantaging white and Asian students
  764. 22:19in their applications. What happens? The
  765. 22:21Biden administration gets rid of it. So,
  766. 22:23you know, if if I am a white employee
  767. 22:25and I'm being told be less white and I
  768. 22:26think I'm pretty swarthy. How much less
  769. 22:28white can I get? [laughter] If I'm
  770. 22:29thinking about suing, I look at the
  771. 22:31track record of of these lawsuits and I
  772. 22:33say, "Why would I waste my money?"
  773. 22:36That's true. It's true according to the
  774. 22:38This goes back to the institutional
  775. 22:39point that Matt was making. The
  776. 22:40institutions are now completely
  777. 22:42corrupted from the inside by the woke. I
  778. 22:44want to talk about that a little bit
  779. 22:45more. First, I want to talk about one of
  780. 22:46the most important things to me, which
  781. 22:48is
  782. 22:49me.
  783. 22:50[laughter]
  784. 22:51When it comes to being me, I like to
  785. 22:53spend as much time being me as humanly
  786. 22:55possible. And that means spending as
  787. 22:57little time doing the things that I
  788. 22:58don't want as is humanly possible. And
  789. 23:01that's why I use stamps.com. When you're
  790. 23:03taking trips to the post office,
  791. 23:06you're not busy being you. You're not
  792. 23:08doing the things that you want to do.
  793. 23:09This is not how a god king likes to
  794. 23:11operate. That's why I recommend mailing
  795. 23:13and shipping online at stamps.com.
  796. 23:16Stamps.com allows you to mail and ship
  797. 23:18anytime, anywhere right from your

  805. 23:35those expensive postage meters.
  806. 23:38Don't waste your time. Be like me.
  807. 23:41Sit at your house, don't go outside,
  808. 23:43don't pay attention to anybody else,
  809. 23:44look in the mirror, [laughter]
  810. 23:46occasionally break away to send out a
  811. 23:48correspondence out to the hoi polloi at
  812. 23:50your computer by using stamps.com. You
  813. 23:52don't want to go to the post office, you
  814. 23:53want to go to stamps.com instead. Not
  815. 23:55that there's anything wrong with a post
  816. 23:56office. Post office is perfectly
  817. 23:57wonderful place if you like to be around
  818. 24:00other human beings. I don't, therefore
  819. 24:02[laughter] stamps.com. There is no risk.
  820. 24:04If you use the promo code backstage, you
  821. 24:06will get a special offer that includes a
  822. 24:084-week trial plus free postage and a
  823. 24:11digital scale. No long-term commitments,
  824. 24:13no contracts. Just go to stamps.com,
  825. 24:15click on the microphone up there at the
  826. 24:16top of the homepage and type in the word
  827. 24:18backstage. That's it. Stamps.com promo
  828. 24:21code backstage. Stamps.com, never go to
  829. 24:23the post office again and just, you
  830. 24:25know, enjoy being you for a minute. That
  831. 24:27is the first time I've ever heard the
  832. 24:28term hoi polloi in an advertisement.
  833. 24:31of all, I I was actually going to stop
  834. 24:32you. That is the best ad-lib you've ever
  835. 24:33done.
  836. 24:34[laughter]
  837. 24:35As somebody who does this
  838. 24:35professionally, let me just say, your
  839. 24:37skill set has grown, Jeremy. I mean,
  840. 24:40like I've heard you do some real bad
  841. 24:41ad-libs. Some horrible ad-libs. Some
  842. 24:42truly terrible ones. That was excellent.
  843. 24:44It was a really great segue in
  844. 24:46[laughter]
  845. 24:46and then it really made it personal and
  846. 24:47you made it about you. You really took
  847. 24:49your time and made it really excellent.
  848. 24:51That was really good. That's what it was
  849. 24:52about. The fact that you were talking
  850. 24:53about you, that's what it was.
  851. 24:54That's the kind of glow comes over your
  852. 24:55face.
  853. 24:57[laughter]
  854. 24:57There There is one note that I wanted to
  855. 24:58make as far as the the fact that
  856. 25:01cancellation is a left-wing phenomenon.
  857. 25:03And it is because it is connected to
  858. 25:04institutional power. Occasionally, you
  859. 25:06will see sort of a right-wing
  860. 25:07cancellation effort. So, for example,
  861. 25:08there was some talk about in college
  862. 25:11removing college scholarships from from
  863. 25:13kids who wanted to kneel for the
  864. 25:14national anthem or something. Like I'm
  865. 25:15not I'm not a big fan of that sort of
  866. 25:16thing. But, there there is it's not just
  867. 25:18that it's a left-wing phenomenon. It's
  868. 25:21that it's a left-wing mindset. There
  869. 25:22There's an actual mindset of
  870. 25:23cancellation that exists. And there's a
  871. 25:25study that I was looking at the other
  872. 25:27day that it's just a a truly amazing
  873. 25:29study. It was quoted in Harvard Business
  874. 25:31Review. What they did is they they took
  875. 25:33a panel of people of wide variety of
  876. 25:35political opinion, went all the way
  877. 25:37right to left. And then they offered
  878. 25:38them model corporation. It was like Jobs
  879. 25:41Corporation or something. And what they
  880. 25:43told them is that they they gave them
  881. 25:44three examples. One, Jobs Corporation is
  882. 25:46apolitical, how do you feel about it?
  883. 25:48They're like, "Okay, it seems like a
  884. 25:49nice corporation." Second was, "Jobs
  885. 25:51Corporation is liberal, how do you feel
  886. 25:52about it?" And they're like, "Hmm, kind
  887. 25:54of a nice corporation." And then they
  888. 25:55said, "Jobs Corporation is
  889. 25:56conservative." It dropped 33 points in
  890. 25:59the approval ratings. 33 points entirely
  891. 26:01because the left decided that it was now
  892. 26:03an evil business.
  893. 26:04Right? So, in other words, people people
  894. 26:06assume that corporate America is
  895. 26:07liberal. They assume it, right? That's
  896. 26:09why the first two results are the same.
  897. 26:10That's why apolitical and liberal end up
  898. 26:11with the same result. It also shows you
  899. 26:13the right does not care. The right is
  900. 26:15happy to shop wherever there is a good
  901. 26:16product. The left does care. The left
  902. 26:18wants their wokeism infused in
  903. 26:19everything. Well, there is good news for
  904. 26:21us in this, as you may have noticed,
  905. 26:23which is that, "Fine, you want to do
  906. 26:25this? You want to boycott any business
  907. 26:26that's conservative? There's half the
  908. 26:28country that believes they should be
  909. 26:29able to shop at businesses that are not
  910. 26:30going to shove this garbage down their
  911. 26:31throat and we are happy to start each
  912. 26:33and every one of those businesses and
  913. 26:34rake in the dough." That's right, Drew.
  914. 26:35This is where the left, I think, has
  915. 26:37lost their mind.
  916. 26:38Illiberalism is nothing new, right?
  917. 26:40There've always There's always been a
  918. 26:42streak of illiberalism even on the right
  919. 26:44and and the leftist is now illiberal.
  920. 26:46But, if you go back like to the '60s,
  921. 26:49illiberals on the right would like burn
  922. 26:51Beatles albums. And you're I'm sorry,
  923. 26:53the Beatles were a band who never got
  924. 26:55[laughter]
  925. 26:57They never got successful because all
  926. 26:58these illiberal conservatives burned
  927. 27:00their records and so then no one ever
  928. 27:01No, of course that's not how it works.
  929. 27:03There's a There is going to be a
  930. 27:05reaction against this idea of cancel
  931. 27:07culture
  932. 27:08that is going to make us more powerful.
  933. 27:11To quote well, the evil empire, "The
  934. 27:14more they tighten their grip, the more
  935. 27:16star systems will slip through their
  936. 27:17fingers." That's the opportunity that
  937. 27:18they've given us. I think it's bad for
  938. 27:20the world that the left is creating a
  939. 27:22dual culture. I think it's bad for the
  940. 27:23world that the left is creating a dual
  941. 27:25economy.
  942. 27:26But, I also think that to the extent
  943. 27:28that they've had almost unchecked power
  944. 27:31in the dominant culture and in the
  945. 27:32dominant economy, only the creation now
  946. 27:35of the dual economy gives us the the
  947. 27:37opportunity to maybe one day make a
  948. 27:39better economy and a better culture that
  949. 27:42one day has a chance of being dominant.
  950. 27:43And you know, this ties into your point
  951. 27:44on the arbitrariness of it because I I I
  952. 27:47think it's arbitrary when they say they
  953. 27:49have rules. And they make up the rules
  954. 27:51on the spot and the rules change day by
  955. 27:53day and they cancel you for whatever.
  956. 27:54But, what is not arbitrary is the people
  957. 27:56that they're canceling. People that
  958. 27:58they're canceling tend to hold views
  959. 28:00very similar to what we think. If you
  960. 28:02are in any way contradicting the
  961. 28:04left-wing orthodoxy, you are liable to
  962. 28:07be canceled and they'll make up some
  963. 28:09fake rule and This is exactly right.
  964. 28:10It's It's all It's all pretextual. It's
  965. 28:12They're doing all of this on the basis
  966. 28:14of who do we want to cancel? And then,
  967. 28:16how do we fit them into the box of sin?
  968. 28:18But, you know, this is this is actually
  969. 28:20I I was speaking to my son, Spencer
  970. 28:21Klavan, no relation,
  971. 28:23today and he and he makes the brilliant
  972. 28:25point, as he so frequently does, that
  973. 28:28this has a
  974. 28:29an almost exact analog
  975. 28:32in the Inquisition. In that Nobody
  976. 28:34expects it. Nobody ever [laughter]
  977. 28:36expects it.
  978. 28:37No. No, that that they said the Catholic
  979. 28:40Church said in the Inquisition, "We have
  980. 28:41this new technology, which is the
  981. 28:43printing press. How wonderful. It
  982. 28:45spreads information. You can now read
  983. 28:47the Bible. You can now have your own
  984. 28:48Bible. It's a It's a wonderful wonderful
  985. 28:50thing, but it's spreading some bad
  986. 28:52information as well and those people
  987. 28:54have to be burned at the stake and and
  988. 28:56put on the rack." Basically, the Twitter
  989. 28:59terms of service
  990. 28:59It was bad. Well, no. I'm I'm I'm in
  991. 29:02favor of the Inquisition. I'm following
  992. 29:03it so far, but then when does it go
  993. 29:05wrong?
  994. 29:05[laughter]
  995. 29:06The Twit The Twitter terms of service
  996. 29:08are the same thing. We have this
  997. 29:09wonderful internet. It's spreading
  998. 29:10information, but it's bad information
  999. 29:13and those people have to be burned at
1000. 29:14the stake and put on the rack. I know
1001. 29:15you guys are in favor of the
1002. 29:17This is This is right. You saw that
1003. 29:18House Democratic letter, right? There
1004. 29:19was two House Democrats who wrote a
1005. 29:21letter to Comcast and AT&T and Amazon
1006. 29:24and every major carrier in the country
1007. 29:25about inflammatory language and inciting
  1008. 29:27language. They've broadened the
1009. 29:28definition of inflammatory and inciting
1010. 29:29to anything they disagree with. And then
1011. 29:31the idea is they're going to cudgel
1012. 29:32corporations into doing their work,
1013. 29:33which by the way does violate the First
1014. 29:34Amendment. You are not allowed to make
1015. 29:36private corporations into agencies of
1016. 29:38the government for purposes of quashing
1017. 29:39the First Amendment. There's case law on
1018. 29:40this. But, they're trying it anyway. And
  1019. 29:43this is
  1020. 29:44this is what they're doing.
1021. 29:45did you see what Amazon is doing this
  1022. 29:46week?
1023. 29:47the hate speech standard? Oh my with
  1024. 29:49Ryan T. Anderson, who's pal of some of
1025. 29:51us in this room, ahead of the Ethics and
  1026. 29:53Public Policy Center. He's a Heritage
1027. 29:55formerly at Heritage Foundation. This
1028. 29:57guy is as mainstream and scholarly a
1029. 30:00conservative as it gets. And he came out
  1030. 30:02with a book a few years ago. Greatest
1031. 30:03book title I've ever heard, When Harry
1032. 30:05Became Sally, Responding to the
  1033. 30:07Transgender
  1034. 30:08good book, too. And it's a really good
  1035. 30:10book, and it's it's actually not in any
  1036. 30:11way an inflammatory
  1037. 30:12the way, it's a sensitive book. It's a
1038. 30:13very sensitive He has a bunch of stuff
1039. 30:15in there about how people who are
1040. 30:16suffering from gender dysphoria ought to
  1041. 30:18be treated humanely, and there's no
  1042. 30:19excuse for treating people badly. I
1043. 30:21mean, he's got a bunch of stuff in there
1044. 30:22that is that is directly a rebuttal to
1045. 30:24sort of the suggestion that people on
1046. 30:25the right don't hear about. No one who
  1047. 30:26is a who doesn't say that. Of course.
1048. 30:28That's the funny thing about There's not
  1049. 30:29even an issue.
1050. 30:30But what Amazon had done, they had taken
1051. 30:32off, you know, if the Confederate flag
1052. 30:34was really politically correct, they
1053. 30:35took that offline, or sometimes
1054. 30:36different symbols, they take that off.
1055. 30:38But they had this standard. They said,
1056. 30:39"We're not going to remove books for
  1057. 30:41being politically incorrect." Because
1058. 30:42they don't want to be seen as burning
1059. 30:44books or banning books, as if as though
1060. 30:46it were the Inquisition. Very quietly,
1061. 30:48they took away that exception. And now,
  1062. 30:51I mean
1063. 30:52We got a lot of books between all of us.
1064. 30:53By the way, uh Mein Kampf is still on on
1065. 30:55Amazon, but Ryan Anderson's book is not
  1066. 30:56on Amazon.
  1067. 30:57Unbelievable. You know, I I got into a
1068. 30:59brief I never do this, but I did get
1069. 31:00into a brief Twitter debate with our
1070. 31:02friend David French, who basically feels
1071. 31:04there should be no recourse
1072. 31:07because of the First Amendment, there
1073. 31:08should be no recourse when private
1074. 31:09entities who are multinational, richer
  1075. 31:12than most two-thirds of governments,
1076. 31:14they have more money than two-thirds of
1077. 31:15the governments, collude together to
1078. 31:18essentially gut our rights. And my
1079. 31:20feeling is, wait, if the point of the
1080. 31:22First Amendment is to protect our
1081. 31:24rights, our rights don't go away because
1082. 31:26the First Amendment makes it difficult
  1083. 31:28to cover
1084. 31:29a threat to them, but the threat to our
1085. 31:30rights right now is in this collusion
1086. 31:33between companies that may not be
1087. 31:35monopolies in and of themselves, but
1088. 31:37when they collude, they become
  1089. 31:38essentially monopolies, and they're
1090. 31:40working in collusion with the government
  1091. 31:42as well.
1092. 31:42Big tech, big government, big business,
1093. 31:44big big big. If that's if that is not a
1094. 31:46threat that needs to be dealt with, and
  1095. 31:48I don't I you know, I'm not a lawyer, I
1096. 31:49don't care how you deal with it, but
1097. 31:51it's got to be dealt with. You cannot
1098. 31:52have a system where whereby we cannot
1099. 31:55attack the threats to our speech. Speech
1100. 31:57is given free The right to speech is
1101. 31:59given to us by God. So, I mean, that's
1102. 32:01the problem on the right where you've
1103. 32:03got at least half that are that are
1104. 32:06allergic to using the power of the
  1105. 32:08government.
1106. 32:08Yeah. Uh whereas on the left, there's
  1107. 32:10wide agreement. Of course, we're going
1108. 32:11to use the power of the government to do
1109. 32:12whatever we want. And I appreciate that
  1110. 32:14on the right, at least there's a there's
1111. 32:16a debate about it, but it seems like
1112. 32:17there are some wide, you know, pretty
  1113. 32:20large, significant preponderance that
1114. 32:22basically, they don't want to use the
1115. 32:23power of the government to do anything
1116. 32:24at all. Um and and I think that that
  1117. 32:27kneecaps us. So, we're we're a huge fan
1118. 32:29way to use the power of government, and
  1119. 32:30there's a and there's a stupid way.
  1120. 32:31Of course.
1121. 32:31And and I think that a lot of people are
1122. 32:33not distinguishing between the two, and
1123. 32:34so you end up with a really dumb kind of
1124. 32:36version of the argument, which is, we
1125. 32:38can either do nothing or we're going to
1126. 32:40be step in and and just tell them
1127. 32:42exactly what they have to do in all
1128. 32:43circumstances. The reality is that what
1129. 32:45is really happened, and this goes back
  1130. 32:46to the Section 230 argument, especially
1131. 32:48when it comes to these platforms, is
1132. 32:49that what Section 230 was designed to do
1133. 32:51was it was designed to enshrine the
1134. 32:54ability for corporations to actually
1135. 32:56protect free speech. It was not the
1136. 32:58opposite. What the what Section 230 was
  1137. 33:00was it it
1138. 33:02you know, just to get into a little bit
1139. 33:03of of legalism here because people don't
  1140. 33:05understand Section 230 particularly
  1141. 33:06well. Section 230 does not make a
  1142. 33:08distinction between publishers and
  1143. 33:09platforms. Section 230 says, "When you
1144. 33:10have an open thread, then you are not
1145. 33:12responsible legally for what appears in
1146. 33:14that open thread." So, Daily Wire is a
  1147. 33:16private corporation, we're responsible
1148. 33:17for what we put up the data did, but our
  1149. 33:19comments, we're not responsible for. If
1150. 33:21somebody puts up plagiarized material in
  1151. 33:22the comments, we're not legally
1152. 33:23responsible for that. And so, that was
1153. 33:25an idea The goal here was to allow
1154. 33:27platforms to exist, cuz otherwise,
1155. 33:28platforms literally would not exist. So,
1156. 33:30what Section 230 did is it created an
  1157. 33:32exception. The exception was
1158. 33:33specifically designed to allow platforms
1159. 33:36to get rid of material that was pretty
1160. 33:38much widely agreed to be excessive. So,
1161. 33:40somebody posts pornography in our in our
1162. 33:42comment section, so we can remove that.
1163. 33:43Somebody posts obscenity or actual
1164. 33:45incitement to violence, we can remove
1165. 33:46all of that. Instead, what has happened
1166. 33:48is, as so often happens with the
1167. 33:50government, the exception became the
1168. 33:51rule. So, then it became the government
1169. 33:53is going to tell corporations that if
  1170. 33:54they don't use Section 230 to crack down
  1171. 33:57on all the material government doesn't
1172. 33:58like then they're going to come after
1173. 34:00those corporations. So, the exception
1174. 34:02ate the rule. So, that exception was
1175. 34:03designed to be an exception, right? The
1176. 34:04idea was it was going to be a broad
1177. 34:06spectrum of ideas that were available,
1178. 34:07and only here and there were you going
1179. 34:09to kind of pinpoint and remove material
1180. 34:10that was truly offensive or truly
  1181. 34:12terrible, and instead
1182. 34:13Truly truly indecent, right? Because the
1183. 34:16Communications Decency Act is where it
  1184. 34:18comes from.
1185. 34:18truly indecent. And instead, what
1186. 34:19happened is that the left basically
1187. 34:21seized upon this opportunity to say,
1188. 34:22"Okay, well, now what these platforms
1189. 34:24really should do is they should act just
1190. 34:25like a publisher. They should edit all
1191. 34:27of the content. They should decide which
1192. 34:28books they are willing to put out and
1193. 34:29which books they're not willing to put
1194. 34:30out. And not only that, we're going to
1195. 34:31have congressional hearings, and we are
1196. 34:32going to say like as Dianne Feinstein
1197. 34:34says, 'If you don't do what we want you
1198. 34:36to do, we will regulate you into doing
1199. 34:37what we want you to do.'" So, if you
  1200. 34:39actually want to fix this, there's a
1201. 34:40good proposal on the table from Marsha
1202. 34:41Blackburn, our senator here in
1203. 34:42Tennessee, uh to to take away the
  1204. 34:45catch-all provision of Section 230. Cuz
1205. 34:47originally, Section 230 says that it it
  1206. 34:49allows you to remove content that's
1207. 34:50obscene, content that is that is
1208. 34:53incitement to violence, content that
1209. 34:55normally be illegal, right? Like that
  1210. 34:56kind of stuff. But there's also a
1211. 34:58catch-all provision that says, "Or
  1212. 34:59anything otherwise objectionable." Yeah.
1213. 35:01And so, what her bill does, it takes
  1214. 35:02away the otherwise objectionable
1215. 35:04language. So, now you cannot be relieved
1216. 35:06of liability if you if you just start
  1217. 35:08willy-nilly taking down stuff. And I
  1218. 35:10think that that's probably the right
  1219. 35:11move.
  1220. 35:11Yeah. Yeah, you know, it's it's funny
1221. 35:13how people are blind to the fact that
1222. 35:16the enemy is is always
1223. 35:18pools of power. Power corrupts, absolute
1224. 35:20power corrupts absolutely. So, the left
1225. 35:22has this idea that the state is going to
1226. 35:24come in and make everything great, but
1227. 35:26it doesn't understand that the state is
1228. 35:27a bunch of people with power. And the
1229. 35:29right has this idea that big business is
1230. 35:30always going to be okay, but big
1231. 35:32business is also people with power. And
1232. 35:34the left used to know this. The left
1233. 35:35used to know that corporations can be
1234. 35:38alternative governments that have the
1235. 35:39power of governments again and can
1236. 35:40threaten you. You know, anybody with
1237. 35:42power, anybody with power has to be
  1238. 35:45controlled. There's it's simply that
  1239. 35:46because the people we're trying to
1240. 35:48protect are the ordinary guys, the
1241. 35:49little guys, who have the right to
  1242. 35:51speak.
1243. 35:51I would just define power a little more
  1244. 35:53specifically than that, which is, it's
1245. 35:54not about the bigness, it's about the
  1246. 35:56actual power to compel. That's right.
  1247. 35:57That's right.
1248. 35:58the problem is not big business. The
1249. 35:59problem is big business working in
1250. 36:00collusion with government in order to
  1251. 36:01restrict your rights. Right? That's the
  1252. 36:03stuff that's actually dangerous. Because
1253. 36:04what we tend to do when and
1254. 36:06conservatives tend to do this, too. We
1255. 36:07talk about big government versus small
  1256. 36:08government. The question isn't big
1257. 36:09government versus small government, is
1258. 36:11what is it what are the delegated powers
  1259. 36:12of government?
  1260. 36:13Limited. Limited.
1261. 36:14Right? It is it is there there are
1262. 36:15specific purposes. The same thing is for
  1263. 36:16a business. The question isn't big
1264. 36:18business or small business, it is
1265. 36:19business acting in favor of free markets
1266. 36:22and free labor, or is business acting
  1267. 36:24against those things? Because I'm
1268. 36:25perfectly fine with a big business that
1269. 36:27does all the things that are in
1270. 36:28consonance with freedom being big and
  1271. 36:30being competitive and winning.
  1272. 36:31Hypothetically, I actually want to talk
1273. 36:33a little bit about why corporations went
1274. 36:34wrong and why I actually think that
1275. 36:36corporations are the biggest threat to
1276. 36:37the country right now. Yeah. Uh but
1277. 36:39before we talk about that, I want to
1278. 36:40talk about my favorite company,
  1279. 36:42Policygenius.
  1280. 36:43[laughter]

1298. 37:16uh attention. They did that for me. I
1299. 37:18purchased my life insurance through
  1300. 37:20policygenius.com, and I I I purchased
1301. 37:22life insurance uh for my wife. I guess
1302. 37:25actually, the insurance I made now that
1303. 37:26I think of it is for my wife.
  1304. 37:27Mhm.
1305. 37:28Maybe the insurance policy on my wife is
  1306. 37:30for me.
  1307. 37:30Yeah, wow.
  1308. 37:31know. There's some bad incentives they
1309. 37:32could create here. That kind of service
  1310. 37:34[laughter]
  1311. 37:35has earned Policygenius a five-star
  1312. 37:36rating across over 1,600 reviews on
1313. 37:39Trustpilot and on Google. You need life
  1314. 37:42insurance. I have a a baby that I
1315. 37:44adopted, she turned 8 months old today.
1316. 37:46She's absolutely wonderful, and you have
1317. 37:48thoughts when you look down at your
1318. 37:49little baby that you never had before.
1319. 37:51One of them is, "Why don't you sleep?"
1320. 37:53And the other one is
1321. 37:55"What would happen to this little life
  1322. 37:57if I disappeared tomorrow and couldn't
  1323. 37:59and wasn't here to provide stability,
1324. 38:01wasn't here to provide her basic needs?"
1325. 38:03That's why you need life insurance. If
1326. 38:05you're worried that March is just around
  1327. 38:07the corner, and you've barely gotten
1328. 38:08anything done cuz it's the new year,
  1329. 38:10don't worry, take a deep breath.
1330. 38:11Policygenius will help you make the most
1331. 38:13of this short month. All you have to do,

1334. 38:19and you can feel good knowing that your

1336. 38:22anything were to happen to you.
1337. 38:24Policygenius.com, go there now, get
1338. 38:26started. Policygenius, when it comes to
  1339. 38:28insurance
1340. 38:29it's nice to get it right. You know,
1341. 38:31other than insinuating that you might
1342. 38:32kill your wife, that was an excellent
1343. 38:34[laughter] ad. Or that my wife might
  1344. 38:35kill me.
  1345. 38:35That's true. That's true.
1346. 38:37kind of want a little bit of rye on
  1347. 38:38that.
  1348. 38:39[laughter]
1349. 38:39I mean, it is true that the incentives
  1350. 38:40sometimes get misaligned. I mean, right
1351. 38:42now, if I were to do something terrible
1352. 38:44to my wife she has much stronger
1353. 38:45incentive to kill me than divorce me.
1354. 38:47Mhm. And you [laughter] have no idea
1355. 38:48I've been a member found that for
1356. 38:50months, you know. If I'm ever found
1357. 38:52having been thrown off the back of a
1358. 38:53train for the double indemnity,
1359. 38:54obviously, then then you know exactly
1360. 38:56what happened. If I ever am found
1361. 38:58floating face down in my pool with three
  1362. 38:59gunshot wounds in my back, I didn't just
1363. 39:01trip and hit my head and fall in
  1364. 39:02[laughter] the pool.
1365. 39:03No matter what my wife
1366. 39:04Hillary Clinton. It was Hillary. You
  1367. 39:06you're ridiculous.
1368. 39:06Speaking of people who might want to
  1369. 39:07kill Ben, Elisha.
  1370. 39:09[laughter]
1371. 39:11No, you have that all wrong. I like Ben.
  1372. 39:12He signs my paychecks. It's Michael
  1373. 39:14Knowles that I want
  1374. 39:15[laughter]
1375. 39:17You know what you should say? Happy
1376. 39:18birthday. By the way, it was it was
1377. 39:19Elisha's birthday this week. Happy
  1378. 39:20birthday.
  1379. 39:20Happy birthday. Thank you. She's at
  1380. 39:22least 25 years
  1381. 39:25I wish. I'm 35. Now, if my husband
1382. 39:27decides to impregnate me again with
  1383. 39:29another gorgeous child, I'm considered a
1384. 39:31geriatric pregnancy, which is just
  1385. 39:33really depressing. [laughter]
1386. 39:34But, thanks for the birthday wishes,
  1387. 39:36guys.
1388. 39:38There's a lot of lively chatter over on
1389. 39:40the chat box. And if you're like, "Well,
1390. 39:41hey, wait a second. I want to chat with
1391. 39:43you on the chat box. Well, how do I do
1392. 39:45that? How do I ask the guys a question?"
  1393. 39:46Well, then that means you've already
  1394. 39:47given me an answer. You're not a Daily
1395. 39:49Wire subscriber. You should head on over
  1396. 39:51to dailywire.com/subscribe,
1397. 39:53and be sure to use the code of Ben's new
1398. 39:56show Debunked, which comes out this
  1399. 39:58February 26th, so be sure to take a
1400. 40:00listen. Debunked will get you 25% off,
1401. 40:03so be sure to go over to
  1402. 40:04dailywire.com/subscribe,
1403. 40:07and use the code Debunked for 25%
1404. 40:10off. All right, this first question we
1405. 40:12have goes to the one and only Matt
1406. 40:14Walsh, who is finally in the backstage
1407. 40:16studio. Fans have been asking for that
1408. 40:18for a very long time, so welcome to
1409. 40:19backstage, Matt. Um people want to know,
1410. 40:22on a very serious note, when will you be
1411. 40:24joining Smokey Michael and the God King,
1412. 40:26and what instrument will you be playing?
1413. 40:29Mhm. I think this is like the third
  1414. 40:30backstage. Like I said, I didn't make
1415. 40:31enough of an impression the first two
  1416. 40:32times.
  1417. 40:34Um [laughter]
1418. 40:34it was Wait, Matt Walsh is here right
  1419. 40:36now? It's definitely a temporary
  1420. 40:38[laughter]
1421. 40:39I do play the banjo, so I, you know, I
  1422. 40:42I mean, I can I Yes. I can I can pick up
1423. 40:45a banjo and make noises with it, so
1424. 40:47Well, I can do that, but I have to
  1425. 40:48hammer it against
1426. 40:49That's as far as my The The real story
1427. 40:51is that my wife bought me a banjo. Uh it
  1428. 40:53was
1429. 40:54When we first got married, she bought me
1430. 40:55a banjo. It was my first birthday as a
  1431. 40:57as a married person.
  1432. 40:59And cuz I had been
1433. 41:00giving making all this noise about how I
1434. 41:02wanted to learn the banjo.
1435. 41:03And she bought it for me, and then what
1436. 41:05that meant was that for the next really
  1437. 41:06for the last 10 years,
1438. 41:08it just kind of sits there, and she'll
1439. 41:09just periodically say, "So, you never
1440. 41:11learned that banjo, did you?"
  1441. 41:12[laughter]
  1442. 41:14That's it. I didn't learn it.
1443. 41:16Uh and how many other instruments do you
1444. 41:18play? Cuz people want some options here.
  1445. 41:20No, I I don't play all I'm very good at
  1446. 41:22not playing
  1447. 41:23[laughter]
1448. 41:24every instrument. Would you say that
1449. 41:25you're as good at every instrument as
1450. 41:26you are? That's a good way to put it.
  1451. 41:28Yeah.
1452. 41:29By the way, completely side note, but um
1453. 41:31Matt and I were outside, and uh the
1454. 41:33conversation turned to the faux
1455. 41:34masculinity of the show. And um and we
  1456. 41:37decided to create a um a masculinity
1457. 41:39ranking of the hosts on the show.
  1458. 41:41Okay.
1459. 41:42It it has a it has a it has but one
1460. 41:44standard. How many children have you
  1461. 41:45sired?
  1462. 41:46[laughter]
1463. 41:46So, by this ranking, it goes Matt, then
  1464. 41:48me.
  1465. 41:49Yeah.
  1466. 41:49Then you, right?
1467. 41:50Yeah. And then you, and then you. Well,
1468. 41:53why tied for last place? Yeah, all
1469. 41:55right. I was I was going to tweet that
1470. 41:56out that Ben Shapiro said I'm the the
1471. 41:58manliest guy at the Daily Wire. So,
  1472. 42:00we're the least said it's Yeah, I know.
  1473. 42:01I mean, it's it's it's it's been said. I
  1474. 42:02mean, he's a lumberjack, and he has like
1475. 42:0383 children. So, Jeremy and I are the
1476. 42:05least toxic people in this entire
  1477. 42:07[clears throat] room. That's pretty
  1478. 42:07[laughter] good.
1479. 42:08I did admit though that you
1480. 42:10So, we have four kids, but the first two
  1481. 42:12were twins. So, it's kind of a
  1482. 42:13two-for-one deal.
1483. 42:15For the same number of pregnancies, so
  1484. 42:16That's right. But I'll happily take I
1485. 42:18think the beard gives me the
  1486. 42:19tiebreakers.
  1487. 42:20[laughter]
1488. 42:20I'll actually say though that I think
1489. 42:22one of the things that matters is can
  1490. 42:24you change a tire? I mean, we're
1491. 42:25probably still tied for I would say
  1492. 42:27that's right.
1493. 42:28I maybe mix it up to top three. Not only
1494. 42:29can change a tire, but have changed many
  1495. 42:31tires frequently on rain-soaked
1496. 42:34freeways. Why? Then don't you have AAA?
1497. 42:36It was before you had AAA. You had a
  1498. 42:38popper? No, you didn't have You didn't
1499. 42:40have phones. Well, what was wrong with
1500. 42:41tires when they were made
  1501. 42:43of wood?
  1502. 42:44[laughter]
1503. 42:45They were They were only through
  1504. 42:46changing a tire.
1505. 42:48It was like BC, you know.
  1506. 42:50[laughter]
1507. 42:51Have you ever changed a tire? Be honest.
1508. 42:53No. Have you seen me? Have I ever
  1509. 42:55changed a tire? [laughter] I changed a
  1510. 42:57tire once. I was visiting LA before I
1511. 42:59lived there, and I I was too cheap to
  1512. 43:01get a good rental car, so I did a
  1513. 43:03rent-a-wreck. I was driving a '91
  1514. 43:05Plymouth Breeze around, you know. I I
1515. 43:07will tell you that I go in, I figured
1516. 43:09out how to do it.
1517. 43:10It was the manliest I've ever felt in
  1518. 43:11[laughter] my
  1519. 43:13By the way, there's a much higher chance
  1520. 43:14that Alicia has changed a tire than I
  1521. 43:16Yeah, Alicia's definitely changed a
  1522. 43:17tire. I will say though that I had a
1523. 43:19blowout this weekend. And in my day, I
  1524. 43:22mean, I grew up in rural Texas, I
1525. 43:23changed a lot of tires, you know. I used
  1526. 43:25to be, when I was a youth, I would like
1527. 43:27stop and help other people change their
1528. 43:29tires when they broke down on the side
1529. 43:30of the road. Seemed like the thing to
1530. 43:31do. Uh but I've become soft. Yeah. Yeah.
1531. 43:33And I was driving We had this huge
1532. 43:35snowstorm, as did, you know, almost the
1533. 43:36entire south uh south of the country
  1534. 43:38this last week.
  1535. 43:40Florida, man. Woo!
1536. 43:43It wreaked holy hell on the roads here,
1537. 43:46right? All the freezing, all the ice.
1538. 43:48So, my wife and my baby and I, we rented
  1539. 43:50uh a little Tesla. I thought maybe it'd
1540. 43:52be fun to have a Tesla. Elon Musk is
1541. 43:53cooler than me. So, I rented this Model
1542. 43:553 from a great family. Uh it was cool,
1543. 43:58pulled up uh to get this Tesla. It's
1544. 44:00really cold outside. I get out of the
1545. 44:01Uber. I'm walking up. This young uh
1546. 44:0317-year-old kid comes out of of his
1547. 44:05house, and I said, uh "Hey, man, good uh
1548. 44:08good to meet you." He goes, "Oh, yeah,
1549. 44:09it's real cool to meet you."
  1550. 44:10And I said, "Yeah, I'm Jeremy." He goes,
  1551. 44:12"Yeah, but yeah, I know." And I was
1552. 44:13like, "Oh, we live in a town where we're
  1553. 44:16famous."
  1554. 44:17[laughter]
  1555. 44:18We've We're used to living in a place
1556. 44:19where people either didn't know who you
  1557. 44:22were Or hated you.
  1558. 44:23[laughter]
1559. 44:24Now we live somewhere where people are
1560. 44:26kind to us and like us. And so, I rented
1561. 44:28this Tesla from this kid. I drive it
  1562. 44:30home,
1563. 44:31and uh park it in the in the garage,
1564. 44:33and then it dumps like 12,000 lbs of
1565. 44:35snow, uh and I didn't get to drive the
  1566. 44:37car for a week. So, finally, I've got
1567. 44:39one day left on the rental, Saturday,
1568. 44:41and I jump in the car. I want to see if
1569. 44:42the baby seat'll fit. Throw the baby
1570. 44:43seat in the back, and then I jump in,
1571. 44:45Dagny jumps in. We We go for a ride, and
1572. 44:48uh I promptly hit one of these newfound
1573. 44:50potholes at full freeway speed, and
1574. 44:52knock the tire off the rim. Oh my gosh.
  1575. 44:54The good news is,
1576. 44:56in a crisis, with my wife and my child
1577. 44:59in the car, I was able to figure out how
  1578. 45:01to call roadside assistance. I was
  1579. 45:03[laughter]
1580. 45:03able to solve the problem. I was able to
1581. 45:05get them on the phone, and they told me
1582. 45:07that they would be there in 4 hours.
1583. 45:09Apparently, a lot of people were broken
1584. 45:11down on the side of the road. So, I had
  1585. 45:12to wait
  1586. 45:134 hours.
  1587. 45:13time I got a flat tire, which was now, I
  1588. 45:15don't know, about 5, 6 years ago, I was
  1589. 45:17in a very expensive BMW,
1590. 45:20and I was out in the middle of nowhere,
  1591. 45:22In the trunk, right?
  1592. 45:23Yeah, I was in the trunk.
  1593. 45:24[laughter]
1594. 45:24The coyotes literally coyotes were
  1595. 45:26circling around me, and I thought,
1596. 45:28"Well, I know how to change a tire." And
1597. 45:30I took out the jack from this very
1598. 45:32expensive BMW, and opened it up, and it
1599. 45:34cracked in half in my hands. And I
  1600. 45:37thought, "I guess people don't do this
  1601. 45:39anymore."
  1602. 45:39[laughter]
1603. 45:40It was a prop. By the way,
1604. 45:42I mean, being as close to death as you
1605. 45:44are, did it ever occur to you that that
1606. 45:45would have been like the coolest way to
  1607. 45:46die?
1608. 45:47Like just laying down with coyotes
1609. 45:49down on the side of the road after
1610. 45:50getting out of your BMW. [laughter]
1611. 45:51And that would have been the headline. I
  1612. 45:52was Suspense writer and
  1613. 45:54eaten by coyotes.
  1614. 45:56[laughter]
1615. 45:57At your age, is there ever a time when
  1616. 45:58coyotes aren't circling you?
1617. 46:01Vultures up ahead. No, the vultures the
1618. 46:03vultures they they travel with me.
  1619. 46:05[laughter]
1620. 46:06I feel that they should pay, you know,
  1621. 46:07pay my fares.
  1622. 46:11Elisha.
1623. 46:12That The all those stories just revealed
1624. 46:14that I was more manly than Ben at my
1625. 46:16most pregnant with my second [laughter]
1626. 46:18child, because I put a spare tire on my
1627. 46:20family wagon, because it was also a
1628. 46:224-hour wait, even though LA did not get
1629. 46:24a blizzard, so yay that. Elisha, let me
  1630. 46:26reiterate, I'm very wealthy.
  1631. 46:28[laughter]
1632. 46:32Yeah, good point. All right, the next
1633. 46:34question goes to the God King. Jeremy
1634. 46:36Boring, these this subscriber must not
1635. 46:38know about Daily Wire 2, because they
1636. 46:40want to know if the Daily Wire, you
  1637. 46:42know, it's entering into entertainment,
1638. 46:44you know, you're expanding all of the
  1639. 46:45shows, you're bringing on new talent,
1640. 46:47you're writing and scripting movies.
1641. 46:49They want to know about sports. Yeah.
1642. 46:51Well, as you say, they obviously haven't
1643. 46:52been fans of the Daily Wire uh for long,
1644. 46:55because we do uh very intensive sports
  1645. 46:57coverage every
1646. 46:59Is it three three Every three years.
1647. 47:02Four years. World Cup. Any Whenever the
1648. 47:04World Cup happens, which I cannot be
  1649. 47:06bothered to know.
1650. 47:08Yeah. Uh we do the Daily Wire 2 uh
1651. 47:10coverage of uh the event. Michael and I
1652. 47:13have been covering it very well low
1653. 47:15these many years. Other than that, if
1654. 47:17you're talking about real sports that
  1655. 47:18people are interested in that aren't
1656. 47:20anti-American, uh and that should be
  1657. 47:22played by a first world country, I think
1658. 47:24it's a great idea. We have talked about
  1659. 47:26it. I think it'd be a lot of fun uh to
  1660. 47:28create a deeper collaboration with our
1661. 47:29friends over at Outkick. They have a
  1662. 47:31great attitude. They're absolutely
1663. 47:32hilarious. Clay Travis is kind of a
1664. 47:34hero. He's right here in Nashville. And
1665. 47:36you know, we could If he But if he
1666. 47:37covered soccer, no doubt. No, we could
1667. 47:39we could call it Daily Wire 3. We could
1668. 47:42So, we can we can keep Daily Wire 2, but
1669. 47:44then we can put the sports. So, there's
1670. 47:46Daily Wire 1, Yeah. which is politics.
  1671. 47:48Politics. There's Daily Wire 3, which is
  1672. 47:50sports.
  1673. 47:51Yeah. And Daily Wire 2 [laughter]
1674. 47:52for, you know, that other thing. The
  1675. 47:54other thing.
  1676. 47:56It's a great idea.
1677. 47:58The every the every four years thing. Uh
1678. 48:00the next question is for Drew. Drew,
1679. 48:02people want to know what projects are
1680. 48:04you working on now you have a little
1681. 48:05more free time since you don't have your
1682. 48:07daily show. And more importantly, um are
1683. 48:10there any people that will work with you
  1684. 48:11in Hollywood since you're a very open
1685. 48:13conservative? No. Uh there are no
  1686. 48:16[laughter]
1687. 48:16There are no people in Hollywood. Uh but
1688. 48:18I am as busy as I have ever been. Well,
1689. 48:20you got to stand in that coffin really
  1690. 48:22apologetic.
  1691. 48:22[laughter]
1692. 48:23Standing in the coffin, you know, you
1693. 48:25you got you got to be ready. It could
  1694. 48:26happen any minute.
  1695. 48:28[laughter]
1696. 48:29But no, I'm as as busy as I've ever
  1697. 48:31been. I just sold I'm so delighted that
1698. 48:33I just sold uh to Thomas Nelson, the
1699. 48:36Christian publishers who published my
1700. 48:38memoir, I sold my essentially the sequel
1701. 48:40to my memoir, which is about literature
  1702. 48:42and the Gospels.
  1703. 48:43Does it have a better title? It's No.
  1704. 48:46[laughter]
1705. 48:47It's called The Truth and Beauty. So,
1706. 48:48you'll hate it. Uh it would be so much
1707. 48:49better if it was called Yet Another
  1708. 48:51Thing.
  1709. 48:52[laughter]
  1710. 48:52The Better Thing.
1711. 48:54I I am writing uh You know the
1712. 48:57I just finished You know the thing. I
  1713. 48:58think.
  1714. 48:59[laughter]
1715. 49:00I just finished uh a draft of the script
1716. 49:02we're going to do here, I hope, and uh
1717. 49:05another uh project script, and I've got
1718. 49:07a uh new series of mystery novels coming
1719. 49:09out. So, I'm as busy as I have ever
  1720. 49:11been. And I it's only it's only because
1721. 49:13I of my uh hatred for Knowles that I've
  1722. 49:16come here at all.
  1723. 49:17[laughter]
  1724. 49:18So, I can insult him. That's it.
1725. 49:19That's good, because when when you pass,
1726. 49:21there'll be just this whole trunk filled
  1727. 49:22with unfinished [laughter] manuscripts
1728. 49:24that we can put out there one by one.
1729. 49:26did you take insurance out on me? I
  1730. 49:27That's
  1731. 49:28[laughter]
  1732. 49:28policygenius.com
1733. 49:34All right, talking about scripts, Ben,
1734. 49:36everyone in the chat wants to know, have
  1735. 49:39you seen a script for Gina's movie? What
1736. 49:41will it be about and when is it coming
1737. 49:43out? So actually this this question is
  1738. 49:45better directed to Jeremy.
1739. 49:47So I will say that there are active and
1740. 49:49ongoing talks about what exactly the
1741. 49:51script should be. I know that Jeremy is
1742. 49:52is waiting through scripts right now
1743. 49:54looking for the right project. But
1744. 49:56because it is a development process and
  1745. 49:58because we're working on a very personal
1746. 50:00level with Gina, it's going to take, you
1747. 50:02know, a little bit of time for us to
1748. 50:03find exactly what we want to do. I think
1749. 50:05it's important for people to understand
  1750. 50:06that Gina
1751. 50:08part of what Gina wants in building this
1752. 50:09next stage of her career is not just to
1753. 50:10be an actress for hire, but to be a
1754. 50:11producer. She wants the ability to
1755. 50:13actually help craft the story,
1756. 50:15to to put her mark on whatever her next
  1757. 50:17project is.
1758. 50:18We're working once again with our
1759. 50:20friends over at Bonfire Legend. Dallas
1760. 50:22Dallas Sonnier is going to produce
1761. 50:24Gina's film. He He read 60 scripts over
1762. 50:28the weekend. I looked at him and he was
1763. 50:30a shell of a man, you know. He couldn't
1764. 50:32tell you about any of them. He'd be
1765. 50:32like, which one did you like best? He
  1766. 50:34goes, well, there was there's a western
  1767. 50:35and a spaceship
  1768. 50:36[laughter]
1769. 50:37and I was like, okay, you get some
  1770. 50:38sleep. Send me the 15 or 16 best
1771. 50:40scripts, which he has done and we're and
1772. 50:41we're working our way through them.
  1773. 50:44By the way,
1774. 50:45they should hire me for this, too.
  1775. 50:47[laughter]
  1776. 50:48Cuz I've got a great idea for it.
  1777. 50:50So I guess I'm learning from
  1778. 50:53Well, we're learning from Drew is he's
1779. 50:54never going to retire. And if he does
1780. 50:56retire, then he'll end up in the trunk
1781. 50:57eaten by coyotes or something.
  1782. 50:58[laughter] It's Ben Shapiro's wish comes
1783. 50:59true. All right, so then the next
1784. 51:01question since that the God King
  1785. 51:03answered that one.
  1786. 51:04[laughter]
1787. 51:04The God King answered that last one. So
  1788. 51:06Ben, I'll toss this one to you. It's a
1789. 51:07very good question. Somebody wants to
  1790. 51:09know, hey, I become a Daily Wire
1791. 51:11subscriber, but what are you doing to
1792. 51:12protect yourself against Big Tech as we
1793. 51:15saw with Parler and other conservative
1794. 51:17sites that are just shut down because
1795. 51:19people like Google and Amazon say, hey,
1796. 51:22we're not going to allow you on our
1797. 51:23servers. Have you guys protected the
1798. 51:25Daily Wire and the subscribers against
1799. 51:26something like that? So we definitely
1800. 51:28have been working on figuring out
1801. 51:30alternative platforms that we could
1802. 51:31shift over to in case something like
1803. 51:33Amazon Web Services what they did to
  1804. 51:35Parler ever happens to us. We've
1805. 51:36expended enormous time and energy and
1806. 51:38some money on exactly this sort of
  1807. 51:40question. Again, I'm going to mis- I'm
1808. 51:42going to redirect the question to Jeremy
1809. 51:43because if for people to understand how
1810. 51:45the Daily Wire works, basically all
1811. 51:46business questions go here and all
1812. 51:48ideological questions go here and all
1813. 51:50questions about cigars that go there and
1814. 51:52all questions about not paying the bills
  1815. 51:53go there
  1816. 51:54[laughter]
  1817. 51:54and all questions
1818. 51:56and all questions about just general
1819. 51:58malaise and cynicism go there.
  1820. 52:00[laughter]
  1821. 52:00That's that's basically the breakdown.
1822. 52:02And if you want somebody who's nice to
  1823. 52:03you, then Alicia's here, too.
1824. 52:05I'll say that as Ben said, yeah, we've
1825. 52:07expended a lot of time into this
1826. 52:08question since what happened to Parler
  1827. 52:10took place.
1828. 52:12The truth is the problem is greater than
1829. 52:14any company is going to be able to
1830. 52:15answer. You know, Amazon Web Services
1831. 52:19controls the servers for 50% of the
  1832. 52:22entire World Wide Web. It's an
  1833. 52:25unbelievable
1834. 52:27amount of infrastructure. So when people
1835. 52:28are like, why don't you build your own
  1836. 52:29servers? It'd be like if in in 1982,
  1837. 52:34the telephone companies
1838. 52:36had gotten involved in censorship and
1839. 52:37somebody had said, well, why don't you
1840. 52:38just build your own phone company? And
1841. 52:40my answer would be, okay, it took 100
1842. 52:43years to run phone lines to every rural
  1843. 52:46household across a continent. That's
  1844. 52:49what you're talking about.
1845. 52:50And what if we build all these servers?
1846. 52:52We We go raise a hundred billion dollars
1847. 52:54or a trillion dollars to build the kind
1848. 52:57of infrastructure on the server side
1849. 52:58that you need and then Amazon never
  1850. 53:00actually acts against another
  1851. 53:01conservative,
  1852. 53:02but the but the
1853. 53:04ISP providers do. Like the the the
1854. 53:07problem that faces conservatives is so
1855. 53:10vast and to take on any part of it would
1856. 53:12take the wealth of a small nation
1857. 53:15to try to conquer. And then that may not
1858. 53:17be the the attack vector. There are like
1859. 53:18a hundred attack vectors that need to be
1860. 53:20solved. So what I really believe needs
1861. 53:22to happen here is several things.
1862. 53:24On one hand we need not to have to
1863. 53:27reinvent all of this, but to diversify
1864. 53:30our reliance on any one platform. So to
  1865. 53:33Ben's point, we're looking at other
1866. 53:35potential data facilities, some that you
1867. 53:37might be able to put yourself on, some
1868. 53:39that you might be able to actually use
  1869. 53:41as almost a shadow server where we're
  1870. 53:42constantly being updated on a backup
1871. 53:44server and if something happens, you can
1872. 53:45very quickly and seamlessly move
1873. 53:47yourself over. Very expensive, not as
1874. 53:49expensive as building Amazon Web
1875. 53:51Services, but more than that, I think
1876. 53:53what needs to happen is conservative
1877. 53:56millionaires and billionaires need to
1878. 53:58change the way that they think about
  1879. 54:00technology. There's a reason that Amazon
  1880. 54:02can kick you off. It's that
1881. 54:04conservatives have no power at Amazon.
1882. 54:06There's a reason Facebook can kick you
1883. 54:07off. Conservatives have no or very
  1884. 54:09little power at Facebook. There's a
1885. 54:10reason that Twitter can treat you the
  1886. 54:11way they do.
  1887. 54:13You you don't have a problem of
1888. 54:15conservatives being run out of their
1889. 54:16homes cuz conservatives are great at
  1890. 54:18real estate. You don't have a problem of
1891. 54:19conservatives running out of gas.
1892. 54:21Conservatives are great at energy.
1893. 54:22There's just these different spheres
1894. 54:24that draw people with different
1895. 54:25mentalities. And I think the proof that
  1896. 54:28conservatives
1897. 54:30don't have the mentality necessary to
1898. 54:32solve this problem is actually in the
  1899. 54:34question.
1900. 54:36Are we building our own servers?
1901. 54:38The answer to the problems of bifurcated
1902. 54:42use of technology is not that we build
1903. 54:45what they currently have. There are
1904. 54:47conversations happening all over the
1905. 54:49world right now in real time that make
1906. 54:52servers obsolete. There are people
1907. 54:54talking about blockchain. There are
1908. 54:56people talking about things beyond
  1909. 54:57blockchain, the names of which I don't
1910. 54:59know. There are kids with backpacks
  1911. 55:00going to left-wing billionaires and
1912. 55:02left-wing venture capital funds and
1913. 55:05left-wing angel investors and creating
1914. 55:07the future and we're not a part of those
1915. 55:09conversations either. And the answer to
1916. 55:12how do you how do you
1917. 55:13solve the problem of it took a century
1918. 55:16to build all those phone lines
1919. 55:17isn't to go try to replicate that. It's
1920. 55:19to invent the cell phone. And until we
1921. 55:21change our mentality we're just going to
1922. 55:23lose on whatever the next thing is, too.
1923. 55:25Whatever the next thing is and we're
1924. 55:26going to build some crappy alternative
1925. 55:28version of what they've already got and
1926. 55:30it's not going to it's just going to
1927. 55:31further ghettoize us. We have to
1928. 55:32completely change the way that we think
  1929. 55:34about this.
  1930. 55:35a follow-up question to this because
1931. 55:37one of the things that is very
1932. 55:39frustrating to me is that conservatives
1933. 55:41seem very very reluctant to think that
1934. 55:44there may be legal remedies here. But it
  1935. 55:46does seem that
1936. 55:48at some point, this is a new technology
1937. 55:51and the new technology needs new law and
1938. 55:54it needs new law to make sure that all
1939. 55:56of us have a chance to speak. If this is
1940. 55:58the way we speak to one another and it
1941. 56:00is, we should be able to speak to one
1942. 56:03another no matter what our political
1943. 56:04beliefs are. And so isn't there some
  1944. 56:07place for lobbying
1945. 56:09lobbying and and things two things and
1946. 56:10then I'll let the lawyer talk. The first
  1947. 56:12one is
1948. 56:13conservatives need to embrace lawfare.
  1949. 56:15It's deeply distasteful. It's horrible.
1950. 56:17It's against our but we actually need to
1951. 56:19embrace it because those are the weapons
1952. 56:22being used against us. But
  1953. 56:23but I'll also say this.
1954. 56:25One one reason that the Daily Wire
  1955. 56:28we're not safe.
1956. 56:30But we are far less likely to be kicked
  1957. 56:31off of
  1958. 56:33servers than is Parler.
  1959. 56:36It's because Parler wasn't conducting
1960. 56:38any actual economic activity. Parler is
1961. 56:40a is a free platform and everybody is
1962. 56:42using is using it for free. They don't
  1963. 56:43have a vast ad network.
1964. 56:45If if some big tech company were to
1965. 56:49knock the Daily Wire off of their
1966. 56:51servers because of speech or something
  1967. 56:52like that.
  1968. 56:54We have
1969. 56:56over a hundred employees. We do millions
1970. 56:58and millions of dollars worth of
  1971. 56:59business. We have
1972. 57:01tens of millions of fans. We have ads on
1973. 57:04our website every day doing, you know,
1974. 57:07hundreds of thousands of micro
1975. 57:09transactions. That goes all the way to
  1976. 57:10the Supreme Court. There's actual
1977. 57:12damages. And one thing that one thing
1978. 57:14that you have to keep in mind when you
1979. 57:15talk about the law is the concept of
1980. 57:17damages. And the damages are just
  1981. 57:18fundamentally different where we're
1982. 57:20concerned. This is why it happens. I
  1983. 57:22mean, it's a it's a sorry state of
  1984. 57:23affairs,
  1985. 57:24but they're not unsophisticated about
1986. 57:26who they target. Yeah, I know that. They
1987. 57:28they target people who have the weakest
1988. 57:31opportunity to challenge them. And this
1989. 57:33is one of those areas where you're
1990. 57:35starting to see some state action.
1991. 57:36Right? Ron DeSantis has talked about
1992. 57:38going after some of the tech companies
1993. 57:40and making it so that they can't do this
  1994. 57:41sort of stuff. Extending
  1995. 57:42anti-discrimination law toward politics
1996. 57:45in the arena of technology, particularly
1997. 57:46free speech platforms. And it seems to
1998. 57:48me that if we've restricted freedom of
1999. 57:49association so strongly in this country
  2000. 57:51that we already have anti-discrimination
2001. 57:52law that applies to every single element
2002. 57:54of American life except for your
  2003. 57:56politics. Right? You can't you can't
2004. 57:57discriminate against somebody on the
2005. 57:59basis of religion, sex, age, disability,
2006. 58:01anything. And nobody is in favor of that
2007. 58:03sort of discrimination, but it used to
2008. 58:04be that freedom of association meant
2009. 58:06that you just sort of had to deal with
  2010. 58:07the fact that sometimes people didn't
2011. 58:08want to hang out with you. But the left
2012. 58:09has completely made that obsolete.
2013. 58:11Right? You have to hang out with whoever
2014. 58:12the left says you have to hang out with
2015. 58:13and you have to do business with whoever
2016. 58:14the left says you have to do business
  2017. 58:15with. I think there's going to be a
2018. 58:16strong move made, particularly in red
2019. 58:18states, against some of these
2020. 58:20corporations saying, if you guys start
2021. 58:22booting people, then we are going to
  2022. 58:24take legal action against you. You're
2023. 58:25going to have violated our state law. Is
  2024. 58:27there a chan-
2025. 58:29Is there a a concern that you can no
  2026. 58:32longer have ideological organizations,
2027. 58:34for example, that the Daily Wire would
2028. 58:35have to have to hire left-wing activists
2029. 58:38to be employed? So you'd have to create
  2030. 58:39actual legal carve-outs. You'd have to
  2031. 58:41say, if you're an overtly partisan
2032. 58:42organization, then you can do this. In
2033. 58:45the same way that there are religious
  2034. 58:46carve-outs for anti-discrimination law.
2035. 58:47Right? So you'd have to do that for
  2036. 58:48overtly political organizations. It
  2037. 58:50would pose a problem for 501c3s
  2038. 58:52particularly. There are a lot of
  2039. 58:53political 501c3s that have a
  2040. 58:54conservative or a liberal bent and
  2041. 58:56because they're nonprofit, they can't be
2042. 58:58overtly associated with a party or not
2043. 59:00associated with a party. And so it could
2044. 59:01get very muddy very fast. I mean,
2045. 59:03listen, in my preferred world
  2046. 59:05as much as I hate discrimination, I hate
2047. 59:07cracking down on freedom of association
2048. 59:08more. In the same way that as much as I
2049. 59:10hate vile speech, I hate cracking down
2050. 59:12on free speech more. But it seems like
2051. 59:14that ship may have already sailed. So as
2052. 59:15long as that ship has already sailed,
2053. 59:17then the only alternative left is going
2054. 59:19to be an extension of
2055. 59:19anti-discrimination law into the field
2056. 59:21of politics. It already exists in places
  2057. 59:22like California. It's just never been
2058. 59:23enforced really. And this is such an
2059. 59:25important key cuz we can say, well, we
2060. 59:26don't like this. I really wish we lived
2061. 59:28in a different world. But as you say,
2062. 59:30Jeremy, we've got to play with what
2063. 59:32we've got. You know, politics involves
2064. 59:34eternal principles. It also involves
2065. 59:37applying those principles to real
2066. 59:38circumstances that are all always
2067. 59:40changing. And if we want to survive, if
2068. 59:42we want to be smart about this, then
2069. 59:44you've got to you've got to play the
  2070. 59:45game.
  2071. 59:45And there's a difference between using
2072. 59:47the weapons that are the weapons of the
2073. 59:48battlefield and using the logic that
  2074. 59:51they use. I'd always Right. I agree with
  2075. 59:52this. I totally agree. It's It's what we
2076. 59:54always said about mutually assured
2077. 59:55destruction, right? When we launched
2078. 59:56Truth Revolt, we said we hate the
2079. 59:57tactics that we're about to use. As soon
2080. 59:58as you guys stop using them, we'll stop
  2081. 59:59using them. Right. Right. And I And I
  2082. 1:00:01think that that's accurate as far as a
2083. 1:00:02lot of these things, which is, you know,
2084. 1:00:04there's only one thing that is worse
  2085. 1:00:06than having a nuclear weapon, and that's
2086. 1:00:07everybody else having one and you not
  2087. 1:00:08having one. Right. And then That's
2088. 1:00:10right. And And it always bothers me. We
2089. 1:00:12play this hypocrisy game with the left,
  2090. 1:00:14which I think is actually destructive.
2091. 1:00:16So, the left says, you know, you said it
2092. 1:00:17was a dark day when Obama was elected.
2093. 1:00:20Dark means that you didn't like the
2094. 1:00:22color of his skin. You think like That's
2095. 1:00:24not what it meant, but you said this,
2096. 1:00:26which is accepting their terms of
  2097. 1:00:27battle. And I don't I don't agree with
  2098. 1:00:29this at all. I I mean, I I'm really
2099. 1:00:32offended by the racial pathology of the
  2100. 1:00:35left. I I think it is I think it is
  2101. 1:00:38irreverent to the human condition. I
2102. 1:00:41think that the to to treat people
2103. 1:00:42according to the color of their skin is
  2104. 1:00:45a wrong. And I think it's wrong no
  2105. 1:00:47matter what color their skin is. I don't
  2106. 1:00:49care if they're hypocrites about it.
2107. 1:00:52I want it to stop. I want to say that
2108. 1:00:54no, you know, if you're a black guy who
2109. 1:00:55did a bad thing, you did a bad thing.
2110. 1:00:57You're a white guy who did a bad thing,
  2111. 1:00:59you did a bad thing. I don't care. I'm
2112. 1:01:00taking people as they come. And the idea
2113. 1:01:02now that they they're selling to us that
  2114. 1:01:04anti that being non-racist is racist.
  2115. 1:01:08Yeah. Is Is insane.
  2116. 1:01:10Right. You can't You can't be
  2117. 1:01:10non-racist. You're So, I I I You're
  2118. 1:01:12either a patriot or you're racist or
  2119. 1:01:13you're anti-racist. There's no third
  2120. 1:01:14category called non-racist.
  2121. 1:01:16That's That's why I think That's why I
2122. 1:01:18think cancel culture is so dangerous
2123. 1:01:19because what it does is it makes people
2124. 1:01:21afraid to say, "Your entire premise is
2125. 1:01:24wrong." Well, this is So, this is this
2126. 1:01:26is the biggest thing I think that when
2127. 1:01:27we when we talk about cancel culture.
2128. 1:01:28It's easy to point to the big
2129. 1:01:29circumstances of cancel culture like
2130. 1:01:31Chris Harrison Right. or or Gina. Um but
2131. 1:01:33the reality is the people it affects
2132. 1:01:35most are the people who are the
2133. 1:01:37low-level employees at Disney or
2134. 1:01:38whatever. Right? The people it affects
2135. 1:01:40most are not people like the people
2136. 1:01:41sitting in this room who talk for a
2137. 1:01:42living, right? Or or do business at a
2138. 1:01:44high level in politics. The people it
2139. 1:01:45affects the most are the people who work
  2140. 1:01:47for Coca-Cola and who make $45,000 a
2141. 1:01:49year and don't have the labor mobility
2142. 1:01:51to be able to just move over to Pepsi,
2143. 1:01:53especially when Pepsi is teaching the
2144. 1:01:54exact same kind of stuff. What cancel
2145. 1:01:55culture is about is intimidating
  2146. 1:01:57everybody into silence. It's not even
  2147. 1:01:58about canceling anybody. It's about
2148. 1:02:00putting a head on a pike. And the more
2149. 1:02:01heads you put on pikes, the more people
2150. 1:02:02are scared to speak out. And they know
2151. 1:02:04that, which is why they're going to keep
2152. 1:02:05putting heads on pikes. In fact, it is
2153. 1:02:06imperative that they keep putting heads
2154. 1:02:07on pikes because the minute that the
2155. 1:02:09heads on the pike stop, somebody might
2156. 1:02:11push back against their dominance.
  2157. 1:02:12That's why That's why I get so I get so
2158. 1:02:14disgusted. I'm almost at the point with
  2159. 1:02:16cancel culture
  2160. 1:02:17when a high-profile person gets canceled
2161. 1:02:20and they start apologizing like Chris
  2162. 1:02:22Harrison did.
  2163. 1:02:22Right. Agree. I'm at the point where I I
2164. 1:02:25despise you more Right. for apologizing
2165. 1:02:28than I do than I do despise the mob for
2166. 1:02:30canceling you in the first place. Like
  2167. 1:02:31Chris Harrison is such a perfect
2168. 1:02:32example. Uh and we didn't even mention
2169. 1:02:35it in that interview that we we we
2170. 1:02:37originally talked about. He he
2171. 1:02:39He was It was at He was so circuitous in
  2172. 1:02:43in standing up to
2173. 1:02:44He could not have been less aggressive
2174. 1:02:47in what he said. And he he kept
2175. 1:02:49uh articulate He kept He kept
  2176. 1:02:51reiterating that, "Well, I'm not
  2177. 1:02:52defending her, and I don't really know,
2178. 1:02:54and she might be a racist, but look,
2179. 1:02:55guys, maybe just maybe we shouldn't be
  2180. 1:02:58destroying people's lives over this."
2181. 1:03:00And they still canceled him anyway. And
2182. 1:03:01then what does he do? He He falls to his
  2183. 1:03:03to his knees
  2184. 1:03:04and apologizes and admits
  2185. 1:03:06He says, "Yeah, I am a racist." I mean,
2186. 1:03:07he he he he accepts their their
2187. 1:03:10accusations against him, even though
2188. 1:03:11he's not a racist. If you do that,
2189. 1:03:13then you're just as bad as them. And
2190. 1:03:15you're also all the other the the
  2191. 1:03:17smaller people, the people you're
2192. 1:03:18talking about who don't have this kind
  2193. 1:03:19of platform, you're throwing them under
  2194. 1:03:21the bus, too, because
2195. 1:03:22you're not just as bad as them. You're
  2196. 1:03:24actually worse because you're you're
2197. 1:03:26you're you've got all of their vices and
  2198. 1:03:28cowardice. Like they're not worse,
  2199. 1:03:29right? And that's why
  2200. 1:03:31That's why That's why I I just want to
2201. 1:03:32say the the the genre of the public
2202. 1:03:35apology Yeah. has to go away. Even if
2203. 1:03:37what you did was wrong. Now, in Chris
2204. 1:03:40Harrison's case, all these other cases,
  2205. 1:03:41Gina Carano, like they didn't do
  2206. 1:03:42anything wrong. But
2207. 1:03:44even if you did something wrong and the
2208. 1:03:45cancel culture is coming after you,
  2209. 1:03:47example
  2210. 1:03:47still don't apologize for Morgan Wallen.
2211. 1:03:49I don't know if you guys tracked this
2212. 1:03:50story. One of the biggest country stars
  2213. 1:03:52Oh, yes. Yes, I
  2214. 1:03:54uh has a new album out. It's fantastic.
  2215. 1:03:57He's a bit of a hell-raiser. Probably
2216. 1:03:58not our kind of guy. Uh he gets home
  2217. 1:04:00from a long night of partying. Uh he's
2218. 1:04:02not being a very good neighbor. He gets
2219. 1:04:04out of a couple pickup trucks in front
2220. 1:04:06of his house. Some of his buddies,
  2221. 1:04:08they're honking on the horn. I don't
  2222. 1:04:09know, it's 1:30 in the morning or
  2223. 1:04:10something. He's being a dick.
  2224. 1:04:12And
  2225. 1:04:13uh
2226. 1:04:14he's yelling at some of his buddies, and
2227. 1:04:16he uses a series of jocular pejoratives
2228. 1:04:19to describe his buddies, none of which
  2229. 1:04:22can be said on
2230. 1:04:22His friends. His actual friends. None of
2231. 1:04:24which can be said on this show. He calls
  2232. 1:04:26them nincompoops and turds
2233. 1:04:28nincompoops and yeah, exactly. Right. Uh
2234. 1:04:30poopy breath, all of it.
  2235. 1:04:33[laughter]
  2236. 1:04:33Then
  2237. 1:04:35his neighbor,
2238. 1:04:36who's probably rightfully ticked off at
  2239. 1:04:38the guy. It's 1:30 in the morning,
2240. 1:04:39you're trying to sleep. Apparently, on
2241. 1:04:41their security camera, their their
2242. 1:04:42doorbell camera, uh the next morning
2243. 1:04:44realizes uh that you can hear him using
2244. 1:04:47these words against his friends, and one
2245. 1:04:49of them is that one word that no one in
2246. 1:04:52America is allowed to say except for all
  2247. 1:04:54of Hollywood, uh [laughter]
  2248. 1:04:56children at church, uh if you're of a
2249. 1:04:59particular race. Yeah. Um and so, for
  2250. 1:05:02this
  2251. 1:05:03total Soviet-style erase erasure, he is
2252. 1:05:07dropped by his label. He is dropped by
2253. 1:05:10But his songs were climbing the charts.
2254. 1:05:12He's dropped by his label. He's dropped
2255. 1:05:13by both of the major radio entities in
2256. 1:05:16the country who who collectively own all
2257. 1:05:20of the radio stations. He's dropped by
  2258. 1:05:22his
2259. 1:05:23The Country Music Awards took him off.
2260. 1:05:24The Country Music Awards disqualifies
2261. 1:05:26him. The AMAs Everybody disqualifies
  2262. 1:05:28him.
  2263. 1:05:29He
2264. 1:05:30He said something distasteful. He said
2265. 1:05:33several distasteful things. He said one
2266. 1:05:35thing that we as a society know there
  2267. 1:05:37are special rules around. I actually
  2268. 1:05:39don't accept those I don't agree with
2269. 1:05:42those rules, but there's no denying the
  2270. 1:05:43existence of those rules.
2271. 1:05:45Um Nevertheless, he said it in a
2272. 1:05:47non-racial context to his friends
2273. 1:05:49privately. It was captured essentially
  2274. 1:05:51by a disgruntled voyeuristic neighbor.
2275. 1:05:54Uh and for this, we've erased him from
  2276. 1:05:55from civilization. He didn't do anything
2277. 1:05:59wrong. He did do something gross. Yeah.
2278. 1:06:02He didn't do anything wrong. He did not
2279. 1:06:04do anything racist. The apology that he
  2280. 1:06:06put out
2281. 1:06:08to the people who have destroyed his
2282. 1:06:10life on the basis of nothing
  2283. 1:06:13grants them
2284. 1:06:15Right. grants them their premise. Will
2285. 1:06:17they give him his career back?
2286. 1:06:20Of course, they're not going to give him
  2287. 1:06:21his career back.
  2288. 1:06:22Well, well, but there's no redemption.
2289. 1:06:24And think about the asymmetry here for a
2290. 1:06:26second, too, because when you say he
2291. 1:06:27didn't do anything wrong, well, he did
2292. 1:06:29something wrong. He came home late. He
2293. 1:06:30woke up his neighbor. He was a jerk, you
  2294. 1:06:32know, so He's using words he shouldn't
2295. 1:06:34use, but he didn't use them but he
2296. 1:06:35didn't use them in the way that is the
2297. 1:06:36racist way to use that word. You find a
2298. 1:06:38black guy and shout the N-word at him,
  2299. 1:06:40right? If you're thinking about what
2300. 1:06:42sort of punishment these sorts of things
2301. 1:06:43should entail, should it entail
2302. 1:06:46destroying your entire life and erasing
  2303. 1:06:48you from society?
2304. 1:06:48There's no proportionality here. This is
2305. 1:06:50the This is the thing though that I
  2306. 1:06:51think that too many conservatives don't
2307. 1:06:53understand, which is this is the fight
  2308. 1:06:55that we're in. So, we're not in the
2309. 1:06:57fight where we have to storm Normandy,
  2310. 1:06:59where we have to
2311. 1:07:00come off the ships and the machine guns
2312. 1:07:01are coming out. This is the fight we're
2313. 1:07:03in. And so And so, when you say, "Oh,
2314. 1:07:05this is going to cost you money, or this
2315. 1:07:08is going to cost you your job, or this
2316. 1:07:10is going to cost you your friends." This
2317. 1:07:12is the fight we're in. And those guys
2318. 1:07:13who stormed Normandy actually got
2319. 1:07:15bullets in the head and they you were
2320. 1:07:16were killed, lost their lives. And I'm
2321. 1:07:18worried that like we don't understand as
  2322. 1:07:21a
  2323. 1:07:22as a half of the country, we don't
  2324. 1:07:25understand that the losses we're
2325. 1:07:27suffering are the losses you suffer when
2326. 1:07:29you are in a fight Yeah. that has to be
  2327. 1:07:31won.
  2328. 1:07:31to And you're going to you're going to
  2329. 1:07:32suffer those losses anyway. That's what
2330. 1:07:34If the cancel mob is coming after you,
  2331. 1:07:36what you have to understand is there's a
2332. 1:07:37very good chance that they that they
  2333. 1:07:38will destroy your life.
2334. 1:07:40They might not. I mean, you might you
2335. 1:07:41might beat them. Gina Carano beat them.
2336. 1:07:44You might not beat them. They might
2337. 1:07:45destroy you. But that's going to happen
2338. 1:07:47anyway. And so, what you can decide
2339. 1:07:49right now is whether you're going to
2340. 1:07:50have your dignity on the way out.
  2341. 1:07:51Morgan Wallen decided that he's not
2342. 1:07:53going to have his dignity because he
  2343. 1:07:54apologized to these people who Here's
2344. 1:07:56the thing about an apology.
2345. 1:07:57You apologize to people who you have
2346. 1:07:59actually harmed. Oh, exactly. And so, if
2347. 1:08:01Morgan Wallen had gone to his neighbors
2348. 1:08:03and knocked on their door personally
2349. 1:08:04without any cameras there and said,
2350. 1:08:06"Listen, if I, you know, if you had to
  2351. 1:08:08hear that, I'm so sorry. I apologize to
  2352. 1:08:10you.
2353. 1:08:10That was obnoxious of me."
2354. 1:08:12too many. I should have gotten home
2355. 1:08:13earlier. Sorry. And then if he had just
2356. 1:08:14gone and done his his video thing and
  2357. 1:08:16said, "Listen, I I I I spoke to my
2358. 1:08:18neighbors. I'm not going to tell you
2359. 1:08:19what that conversation was. It's none of
2360. 1:08:20your business. But to all you people out
2361. 1:08:22there that are trying to destroy me, I
2362. 1:08:24do not apologize to you because you were
  2363. 1:08:26not harmed by what I did. You don't
  2364. 1:08:27really care.
  2365. 1:08:28That's right. You're excited for the
2366. 1:08:29opportunity to destroy my life just
2367. 1:08:31because you get a kick out of it. So, I
2368. 1:08:32do not apologize to you. If you were
  2369. 1:08:34offended, I'm glad you were offended.
2370. 1:08:36That's all I have to say about it." It's
2371. 1:08:38You've got to do this. You're And the
2372. 1:08:38thing is, if he had if he had said that,
2373. 1:08:40he'd be in the same spot today that he
2374. 1:08:41is that that that he is anyway.
  2375. 1:08:43It really But I do think there's a
2376. 1:08:44special duty that adheres to people who
2377. 1:08:45have the power to do that. Because if
2378. 1:08:47Morgan Wallen had done that, it would
2379. 1:08:49have meant a hell of a lot more than the
  2380. 1:08:50local employee at Coca-Cola, right? When
2381. 1:08:52we when we like what we did with Gina, I
2382. 1:08:54think is is And I mean, pat ourselves on
2383. 1:08:55the back, but we deserve a pat on the
  2384. 1:08:56back
  2385. 1:08:57We're We're Mother Teresa. I mean, like
2386. 1:08:58it's actually No, you actually did
  2387. 1:08:59something Like like I I And I think the
2388. 1:09:01audience knows this, which is why we had
2389. 1:09:03the best week we've ever had in the
2390. 1:09:04history of the company over this. The
  2391. 1:09:06the
2392. 1:09:07By By putting our money where our mouth
2393. 1:09:09is and saying we're not going to allow
2394. 1:09:11people to be canceled, that was a
  2395. 1:09:12statement in the culture. And that's a
2396. 1:09:13statement that more business people need
  2397. 1:09:15to make. I mean,
2398. 1:09:17I'll be real with you. I would hire
2399. 1:09:18Morgan Wallen tomorrow. I tried to reach
  2400. 1:09:20out to Morgan. Right. I mean, I would I
2401. 1:09:21would hire Morgan Wallen tomorrow
  2402. 1:09:22because I don't think that what Morgan
2403. 1:09:23Wallen did was intended to harm black
  2404. 1:09:26people, and I don't think that what he
2405. 1:09:27did did harm black people. Right? And I
2406. 1:09:29I think that what he did was being an
2407. 1:09:30ass. Right? And And guess what? Being an
2408. 1:09:32ass is a bad thing to do. And again, he
2409. 1:09:34should apologize if he's able. But that
2410. 1:09:36is a legal thing to do in the United
2411. 1:09:37States, and sometimes people are asses,
2412. 1:09:38and there should be forgiveness
2413. 1:09:39available to people who are asses. And
2414. 1:09:40again, and again, the president of the
2415. 1:09:43United States won't help schools open so
2416. 1:09:45black people can send their children to
  2417. 1:09:46get educated.
  2418. 1:09:48And it's like the real things aren't
  2419. 1:09:49happening.
2420. 1:09:50there's a phrase that that Jeremy once
2421. 1:09:51said in a in a very similar sort of
2422. 1:09:54cancellation situation. And it it
2423. 1:09:56resonates here, and that is that cowards
  2424. 1:09:58get their friends killed. And that's
  2425. 1:10:00that's really what we're talking about
  2426. 1:10:01here. Because it's not just that they're
2427. 1:10:02a coward because they're backing down in
2428. 1:10:04the hopes that they'll get their career
  2429. 1:10:05back. It's the cowardice that gets
2430. 1:10:06everybody else killed. Because now you
  2431. 1:10:08set the new standard, and you've
2432. 1:10:09reinforced the standard. This came up
2433. 1:10:11originally in the context of Mark
2434. 1:10:12Duplass, who of course is this famous
  2435. 1:10:14director, producer, actor who
2436. 1:10:16committed the grave sin of once having
2437. 1:10:18said a nice thing about me on Twitter.
2438. 1:10:19Right? He came to the office, I gave him
2439. 1:10:20an hour and a half of my time.
2440. 1:10:22I I canceled him for that. Well, yeah, I
  2441. 1:10:23mean, of course, but
2442. 1:10:24I gave him an hour and a half of my
2443. 1:10:25time. We talked about the second
2444. 1:10:26amendment stuff. I was very nice to him.
2445. 1:10:27And as he was leaving, I said,
2446. 1:10:29"For your own sake, do not post on
2447. 1:10:31social media that you were here cuz
2448. 1:10:32they're going to wreck you for it." And
2449. 1:10:33a couple weeks later, he got it into his
2450. 1:10:34head that he was going to do a nice
  2451. 1:10:35thing, and he tweeted out, "I miss I
2452. 1:10:37disagree with Ben Shapiro about a lot of
2453. 1:10:38things, but he did a nice thing for me
  2454. 1:10:40when he didn't have to, and he's
2455. 1:10:41well-intentioned." He got hit so hard
2456. 1:10:42that he not only pulled down that tweet,
  2457. 1:10:43he then issued a groveling apology.
2458. 1:10:45Right? And then what ended up happening
2459. 1:10:46on the back of that groveling apology is
2460. 1:10:48that James Gunn came out and defended
2461. 1:10:49him. And then everybody on the right
  2462. 1:10:51resurfaced James Gunn's old material,
2463. 1:10:52and James Gunn ended up getting fired,
2464. 1:10:53right? And I ended up defending James
2465. 1:10:55Gunn in this bizarre situation. So, I
2466. 1:10:57was like, "Damn knows. Like, just by
2467. 1:10:58existing, I took out half the Marvel
2468. 1:11:00universe." And [laughter] And what And
2469. 1:11:02what Jeremy said at the time is, "The
2470. 1:11:03thing about cowards is they rarely get
2471. 1:11:05themselves killed. They get all their
2472. 1:11:06friends killed." Because when you duck
2473. 1:11:07out of the battle, what you end up doing
2474. 1:11:09is granting the opposition their entire
2475. 1:11:11premise, and that premise is then used
2476. 1:11:12against all the people who heretofore
  2477. 1:11:14were your friends. And so, that's
2478. 1:11:15exactly right. You should only Apologies
2479. 1:11:17are wonderful thing when you have done a
2480. 1:11:19wrong thing. If you want to have a good
2481. 1:11:20marriage, apologize first thing in the
  2482. 1:11:21morning to your wife.
  2483. 1:11:23[laughter]
2484. 1:11:24But the reality It doesn't matter what
2485. 1:11:26you say. It's the first word out of your
2486. 1:11:28mouth in the morning. But But when when
2487. 1:11:30it comes to public policy, the issuing
2488. 1:11:32of these Maoist struggle session
  2489. 1:11:34apologies for things that you haven't
2490. 1:11:36done wrong to people you have not
2491. 1:11:37wronged. When people issue apologies,
2492. 1:11:39and they say, "To everyone who is
2493. 1:11:40offended by this." Well, no. If you're
  2494. 1:11:42offended by this wrongly, I'm I'm sorry.
2495. 1:11:44Your your emotions may even be
2496. 1:11:45authentic, but that does not mean they
2497. 1:11:46are justified, and you do not deserve an
2498. 1:11:48apology. Well, you know, on this point
  2499. 1:11:50of Maoism, I think that's actually the
2500. 1:11:52perfect term. There there was this
2501. 1:11:53phenomenon in the '70s with the New York
  2502. 1:11:55radical women's group. They coined the
2503. 1:11:57term or sort of popularized the term
2504. 1:11:59consciousness raising. And there were
  2505. 1:12:01these famous meetings where you'd get
2506. 1:12:02all these housewives to come together,
2507. 1:12:04and they would I call them wine and
2508. 1:12:06cheese soirees. They complain the whole
  2509. 1:12:08time. And there's a famous essay about
2510. 1:12:10this by Carol Hanisch. And she says that
2511. 1:12:12there was a woman who came, and she
2512. 1:12:13said, "You know, before I came here
2513. 1:12:15tonight, ladies, I had no idea how
  2514. 1:12:17oppressed I was. But darn it, when I
2515. 1:12:19leave, I am so oppressed and furious and
2516. 1:12:21aggrieved." Yeah. And that you see this
2517. 1:12:23now, people trying to convince
2518. 1:12:25themselves to be aggrieved and offended
2519. 1:12:28by some public comment that no one cares
  2520. 1:12:30about.
2521. 1:12:30to say one thing in Mark Wallen's
2522. 1:12:33Is it Mark? Morgan. Morgan. Sorry. I
  2523. 1:12:35said it
  2524. 1:12:35in Morgan Wallen's defense.
2525. 1:12:38And that's that I think that for us, we
2526. 1:12:41live in this space, and we know about
2527. 1:12:42this fight. I think when when they come
2528. 1:12:45for you, and you haven't thought about
  2529. 1:12:47these things in advance, Yeah, that's a
2530. 1:12:48really good point. they are taking your
2531. 1:12:50life and your name We talked about it
  2532. 1:12:52with Gina. They're taking your career
2533. 1:12:53and your good And you good name away,
  2534. 1:12:54and Not just that, everybody who's
2535. 1:12:55surrounding you is telling you to do it.
2536. 1:12:57I mean, honestly, the best thing that
2537. 1:12:58happened to Gina in this whole thing is
2538. 1:13:00that her agency didn't dump her. Yeah.
2539. 1:13:01Because if her agency hadn't dumped her,
2540. 1:13:03we would have called her up, and you
2541. 1:13:04know what her agent would have said?
  2542. 1:13:05"Don't take their call."
2543. 1:13:05No way. "Don't take their call. Because
2544. 1:13:07if you work with them, you'll never work
2545. 1:13:08in this town again." Now, the reality is
2546. 1:13:09they were never going to let Gina work
2547. 1:13:10in the town again anyway. Right? But her
2548. 1:13:12agent would have said, "No, maybe in a
2549. 1:13:13few years, you know, you go away for a
2550. 1:13:15while, you kind of earn your way back in
  2551. 1:13:16with bit parts." I guarantee what
2552. 1:13:18happened with Morgan Wallen is that his
  2553. 1:13:19initial reaction was probably, "I don't
2554. 1:13:21even know what is going on right now."
2555. 1:13:22And his agent got on the phone with him,
2556. 1:13:24and his agent probably said to him,
2557. 1:13:25"Listen, you need to issue an apology
2558. 1:13:27right now. Maybe we can put out this
2559. 1:13:28fire right now, and then the news cycle
2560. 1:13:30will move on, but you need to at least
2561. 1:13:31issue the apology this And And if you if
2562. 1:13:33if you've never been through the fire,
2563. 1:13:35it is egregious. I mean, it is it is
2564. 1:13:37truly one of the worst I can tell you
2565. 1:13:40that as a person who gets trended on
  2566. 1:13:41Twitter approximately every two and a
  2567. 1:13:42half weeks, right? I mean,
2568. 1:13:43it is never fun. Whether it is justified
2569. 1:13:45or unjustified, it is never fun. And
2570. 1:13:48that's as somebody who does it
  2571. 1:13:48professionally, right? I basically trend
2572. 1:13:50on Twitter professionally. If you are
2573. 1:13:51somebody who only trends once in your
2574. 1:13:53life, and that time is because you are
2575. 1:13:55losing your job and your livelihood,
  2576. 1:13:57and it's a tsunami of media coverage.
2577. 1:13:59Like, a tsunami. Because the more you
2578. 1:14:00trend, the less big the bumps are.
2579. 1:14:02Honestly, like in terms of the
2580. 1:14:03differential from norm. Like, the the
2581. 1:14:05normal for me is that I get mentioned on
  2582. 1:14:06Twitter a lot, and then on a few days a
  2583. 1:14:08month, I get mentioned like a a super
  2584. 1:14:10lot. But if you're Gina, you don't get
2585. 1:14:12mentioned on Twitter all that often
2586. 1:14:13except for people who are saying they
2587. 1:14:13enjoy you in The Mandalorian. And then
2588. 1:14:15one day, you are the only thing that
2589. 1:14:17everyone in the country is talking
2590. 1:14:18about. by a deluge of emails, often
  2591. 1:14:21phone calls. It's overwhelming. And
2592. 1:14:23people don't know that it passes to you.
2593. 1:14:25You know, before we started, Matt and I
2594. 1:14:26were talking about Media Matters, who do
2595. 1:14:29nothing, but they sit around, and they
2596. 1:14:31listen to us, and try and twist our
  2597. 1:14:33words into
2598. 1:14:34And publicize our shows. And publicize
2599. 1:14:35our shows. But they try to they try to
2600. 1:14:37make us sound like terrible people for
2601. 1:14:38things that we say, which in context are
  2602. 1:14:41actually not terrible at all. And I I
  2603. 1:14:43have to admit, it's a terrible
2604. 1:14:45You're going to hate me for this. I
2605. 1:14:47actually have pity for them. Like,
2606. 1:14:48that's your job. Your job is to like try
2607. 1:14:51and make other people look bad, and to
  2608. 1:14:52listen to us, and
2609. 1:14:53And I just think like, you know, I think
2610. 1:14:55end of your life, like you're going to
2611. 1:14:56stand before the throne of God, and he's
2612. 1:14:57going to go like, "What did you do?"
  2613. 1:14:59Yeah. Well, I Yeah. No, they're they're
  2614. 1:15:02These are damaged people. There's no
2615. 1:15:03question about that. And it it does get
  2616. 1:15:05to your point, which is I don't I don't
2617. 1:15:07need to accept their standard. You know,
2618. 1:15:09if they if if they basically on the
2619. 1:15:11left, all they exist to do is call us
  2620. 1:15:13all racist every day.
2621. 1:15:14And then one day, a clip of Joe Biden
2622. 1:15:16goes around, and it's he stumbles on his
  2623. 1:15:18words cuz it's a day that ends in Y, and
2624. 1:15:20he sort of sounds like he said the
2625. 1:15:22N-word, and then we all sort of giggle
  2626. 1:15:24about that. I don't care. I don't think
  2627. 1:15:26he really said that. I don't I don't
  2628. 1:15:27think he is some bigot. I don't think
  2629. 1:15:30that I just think it's playing into
  2630. 1:15:32their game, pointing out a hypocrisy
2631. 1:15:34that they don't care about cuz they
2632. 1:15:35don't care about the rules anyway. They
  2633. 1:15:37just don't like us. I would much rather
2634. 1:15:39do what I'm going to do. I would much
2635. 1:15:41rather build culture, make movies with
2636. 1:15:43people we want to work with, do those
2637. 1:15:45sorts of things, than worry about their
2638. 1:15:46stupid rules, which change every day.
2639. 1:15:48right. It mean this is the thing that I
2640. 1:15:49cling to is that racism is an actual
  2641. 1:15:52philosophy, which I I don't hold. I
2642. 1:15:55don't think any of the people in this
2643. 1:15:56room hold. It It's not a slip of the
  2644. 1:15:58tongue. It's not something that you
2645. 1:16:00might have said that was untoward. It's
2646. 1:16:01not even a moment of anger when some
2647. 1:16:03tribal glitch in your brain goes off.
2648. 1:16:06It's an actual way of life. I know
2649. 1:16:08racist. They They actually think the
2650. 1:16:10things that these, you know, people are
  2651. 1:16:12being canceled for.
2652. 1:16:13I just don't accept the terms. I do not
2653. 1:16:16accept the terms of the argument. I
  2654. 1:16:17don't accept that
2655. 1:16:19as you say, if if somebody shouted a
  2656. 1:16:21word he shouldn't shout, well, that's a
  2657. 1:16:22bad thing, but it's not necessarily a
  2658. 1:16:24racist thing. This thing you're talking
  2659. 1:16:26about the bachelor. I I just think it's
  2660. 1:16:28absurd. I'll even go a step further.
  2661. 1:16:30especially cuz we know it's a grift
2662. 1:16:31because of the governor of Virginia who
2663. 1:16:33doesn't get canceled for it because then
  2664. 1:16:34a Republican
  2665. 1:16:35I'll even go a step further. Shouting a
  2666. 1:16:37racial pejorative
  2667. 1:16:39is not necessarily
  2668. 1:16:41racist. That's right. That's right. No,
2669. 1:16:43you're absolutely right. Doing something
  2670. 1:16:45racist
2671. 1:16:47does not necessarily make you a racist.
2672. 1:16:49It means you did a racist thing. So,
2673. 1:16:51there are there actually even there's an
2674. 1:16:53even another gradation, which is I think
2675. 1:16:55a very interesting point you just made.
2676. 1:16:56Sometimes people in their worst moments
2677. 1:16:58actually do succumb to the worst
  2678. 1:17:00thoughts. That's right. That doesn't
2679. 1:17:01actually define them. You know, people
2680. 1:17:03say all the time like
2681. 1:17:05And this is not to let them off the
2682. 1:17:06hook. This just points out that there
  2683. 1:17:07are gradations of sin.
2684. 1:17:09of And what the left has decided is
2685. 1:17:10there are no gradations of sin. There is
2686. 1:17:11just the damned and the woke, and that's
2687. 1:17:13it. There There's this thing that people
2688. 1:17:15used to say back in college. It's like,
  2689. 1:17:16well, you know, you'd you'd have a
2690. 1:17:18couple too many drinks, and you'd say
  2691. 1:17:19something you shouldn't about one of
  2692. 1:17:20your buddies or whatever, and you'd
2693. 1:17:22apologize the next day. And they'd be
2694. 1:17:24like, "No, what you say when you're
  2695. 1:17:25drunk is that's who you really are. I
2696. 1:17:26saw the real you." Uh because all your
2697. 1:17:28inhibitions were gone. You said what you
  2698. 1:17:29really believe.
2699. 1:17:30And that never resonated with me.
  2700. 1:17:32Yeah, that's ridiculous. Cuz what I
  2701. 1:17:33actually thought was, "No,
2702. 1:17:35when my inhibitions were gone, when my
2703. 1:17:38rational mind was gone, when I was only
2704. 1:17:40giving in to my vices and basest
  2705. 1:17:43passions, you're you're you're saying
2706. 1:17:45that that's the real me. But no, the
2707. 1:17:47real me is all of the things that I've
2708. 1:17:49built on top of my worst impulses.
2709. 1:17:51All the things that I've built on top of
2710. 1:17:53my intrinsic tribalistic way of looking
2711. 1:17:56at things, or my selfish ways of looking
2712. 1:17:58at things, or my, you know, vain ways of
2713. 1:18:01looking at things, or my hateful We we
2714. 1:18:03all have the seed of sin in us.
2715. 1:18:06What we build on top of that is the real
2716. 1:18:08us. This is why we, you know, when I was
2717. 1:18:10talking about Rush a lot of this week,
2718. 1:18:12as we all were and thinking about Rush.
  2719. 1:18:15And
  2720. 1:18:16you know, I was really obviously I think
2721. 1:18:18all of us were really just moved by the
2722. 1:18:20passing of this guy, and all these
2723. 1:18:22liberals celebrating his death, and
  2724. 1:18:24publishing things that
2725. 1:18:26he had said, some of which were
2726. 1:18:28untoward. Most of the things they
2727. 1:18:30published he never said. Yeah. But now
2728. 1:18:32and again, he said something that I
  2729. 1:18:34thought like, "I don't agree with that,
  2730. 1:18:35and I don't think probably Rush, if you
2731. 1:18:37pushed him to the wall, would agree with
2732. 1:18:38it." But he spoke 3 hours a day live to
  2733. 1:18:41people. That's more than people It's 30
2734. 1:18:43years. More than to their spouses. You
2735. 1:18:45do not speak to your spouse 3 hours a
2736. 1:18:47day. And And And what I say to all these
2737. 1:18:50people is, "You ever say anything to
  2738. 1:18:51your spouse that
  2739. 1:18:52you're glad didn't become public?" I
2740. 1:18:54mean, this is this is what I I have,
  2741. 1:18:55yeah.
2742. 1:18:55is what I wrote in the New York Times,
  2743. 1:18:57which frankly, I'm shocked that they
  2744. 1:18:58they solicited an op-ed from me. I will
2745. 1:19:00I will say, they took out a slap I had
2746. 1:19:03at the New York Times in that piece.
  2747. 1:19:04There was originally
  2748. 1:19:05I know.
2749. 1:19:06I mentioned the fact that the headline
2750. 1:19:08in the New York Times about Rush was
2751. 1:19:09that he had like turned talk radio into
  2752. 1:19:10an aggressive right-wing attack machine.
2753. 1:19:12And their headline about Ayatollah
  2754. 1:19:13Khomeini was thoughtful religious
  2755. 1:19:14leader, right?
2756. 1:19:15But [laughter] it But the um
2757. 1:19:18But the the point that I was making is
2758. 1:19:19that what the left did with Rush is what
2759. 1:19:22they are going to do with all of us.
2760. 1:19:23They're like the So in in Judaism,
  2761. 1:19:26so to teach y'all about a different
2762. 1:19:28religion. So in Judaism, [laughter]
  2763. 1:19:29Satan is not a character who's opposed
2764. 1:19:32to God. That's not what Satan is. Satan
2765. 1:19:33is known as the accuser because he's
2766. 1:19:34essentially the prosecutor. The idea is
2767. 1:19:36that after you die, Satan comes and he
2768. 1:19:38basically is the one who is going to try
2769. 1:19:40you in court before God. He's the one
2770. 1:19:42who strings together all of your sort of
2771. 1:19:44worst moments, right? And and that is
2772. 1:19:47what this is. And this will come for all
2773. 1:19:49of us. I said in the piece that it
2774. 1:19:51wouldn't have mattered if it had been
2775. 1:19:52Tucker or if it had been Shawn or if it
2776. 1:19:53had been me or if it had been you or if
2777. 1:19:54it had been anybody who's prominent on
2778. 1:19:56the right, the reaction would have been
2779. 1:19:57the same because all our lives would
2780. 1:19:58have been would have been a compendium
2781. 1:20:00of the worst moments of us taken out of
2782. 1:20:02context and robbed of all meaning,
2783. 1:20:05right? That's all it would have been.
2784. 1:20:06And that's what you saw in the CNN
2785. 1:20:07montage, right? The montage of Rush was
2786. 1:20:08like Sandra Fluke and it was the AIDS
2787. 1:20:10stuff from 1980 88 and it was it was all
2788. 1:20:12this it was like the out of the 30 years
2789. 1:20:15of material, what are the six worst
2790. 1:20:16things he did and can we use those
2791. 1:20:18things to rag on him? Can we use those
2792. 1:20:20things to characterize his entire life?
2793. 1:20:22And we should all refuse to accept this
2794. 1:20:24frame. We should refuse to accept this
2795. 1:20:26frame. The reality is that we are all a
2796. 1:20:28compendium of all the things that we
2797. 1:20:29have done over the course of our life,
2798. 1:20:30most of which people never see. And for
2799. 1:20:32those of us who are in public life,
2800. 1:20:34yeah, the the notion that everything
2801. 1:20:35that you do can be boiled down into one
2802. 1:20:37bad tweet or one bad moment. All that
2803. 1:20:40really is is because it can be done to
2804. 1:20:41anybody. Can be all that anybody But it
  2805. 1:20:43doesn't isn't. But it isn't.
2806. 1:20:44It isn't but the but because it can be
2807. 1:20:46done to anybody, that's how you know who
  2808. 1:20:48they hate.
2809. 1:20:49Right? Because you can do it with
2810. 1:20:49anybody. Literally anybody. Right. And
2811. 1:20:51be but there's only one side of the
2812. 1:20:53aisle that chooses to do this to. Those
2813. 1:20:54are the people that they cancel. And so
2814. 1:20:55don't accept the standard that this is
2815. 1:20:56how people should be characterized.
2816. 1:20:58I think it's so important for us to
2817. 1:21:00reject this framework for the sake of
2818. 1:21:02our children. Yes. Because our our
  2819. 1:21:04children, I mean I feel
  2820. 1:21:06please think of the
  2821. 1:21:07Think of the
  2822. 1:21:08[laughter]
2823. 1:21:09Let's actually think about the children
2824. 1:21:10because our kids not my kids but so many
2825. 1:21:13kids are are starting out on social
  2826. 1:21:15media
2827. 1:21:16Yep. at the age of like eight years old.
2828. 1:21:18Yeah. And or even if they start at
2829. 1:21:20social media at 14 or 15. And and just
2830. 1:21:23everything they think that everything
2831. 1:21:25that enters their head is documented
2832. 1:21:27forever online and you got to think
  2833. 1:21:28about
  2834. 1:21:29what we're what we're starting right now
2835. 1:21:31with this cancel culture if it continues
2836. 1:21:32like this. Yeah. 30 years from now, all
  2837. 1:21:34of our children are ruined. They're
  2838. 1:21:36their lives are ruined. I'm legitimately
2839. 1:21:38grateful to God that I grew up before
2840. 1:21:40cell phones. Oh my God. Right. You know,
2841. 1:21:42also on this Rush point, I mean you you
2842. 1:21:44figure these kids are going to be on
2843. 1:21:45social media all the time. Imagine
2844. 1:21:47what's going to crop up. Imagine if
2845. 1:21:48you've been on air for 3 hours a day for
2846. 1:21:51for 30 years and your job by the way is
2847. 1:21:53to be provocative especially earlier on
2848. 1:21:55in the career and the best thing they
2849. 1:21:57got on you is an AIDS joke you made in
  2850. 1:22:001980
  2851. 1:22:01[laughter]
2852. 1:22:01and can you imagine that? I think like I
2853. 1:22:03wake up in the morning, right?
2854. 1:22:05We actually pray this sort of thing. We
2855. 1:22:06say, God have mercy on me, a miserable
2856. 1:22:08sinner. You think of these lines from
  2857. 1:22:10Shakespeare of like
2858. 1:22:11I could accuse myself of such things
2859. 1:22:13that it would be better that my mother
2860. 1:22:14had not borne me. All the sins we all
2861. 1:22:17commit. That's the best they got on the
  2862. 1:22:18guy. He's pretty clean. He's
  2863. 1:22:20[laughter]
  2864. 1:22:20pretty well. And we're we're taking out
  2865. 1:22:21of a con like
  2866. 1:22:23the other thing we're doing is we're not
2867. 1:22:24taking of course the time when these
2868. 1:22:26things were said into context at all.
2869. 1:22:28And we and we you know, forget about
  2870. 1:22:291980. We're going back to the 1840s and
2871. 1:22:32saying like whatever someone did back
2872. 1:22:34then, we're going to hold them to the
2873. 1:22:35standards of the year 2021 which of
  2874. 1:22:37course is complete madness.
2875. 1:22:39I mean as somebody who is writing
  2876. 1:22:40publicly from the time I was 17, I can
2877. 1:22:41say the great majority of the things I
2878. 1:22:42regret having written occurred between
  2879. 1:22:44the ages of 17 and 22. Right. Right?
  2880. 1:22:46Like because when you're first starting
2881. 1:22:47out, number one, you're trying to get
2882. 1:22:48attention. And number two, your thoughts
2883. 1:22:50aren't fully formed. If you don't get
2884. 1:22:51better at what you do over time become a
  2885. 1:22:53better thinker over time, you're not
  2886. 1:22:54being a human being.
2887. 1:22:55That's just called maturing. And so
2888. 1:22:58the and and the media celebrate this
2889. 1:22:59stuff. This is how the it's the easiest
2890. 1:23:00form of fake journalism, right? This is
2891. 1:23:02the other thing is that the media have
2892. 1:23:03made an entire model. The same people
2893. 1:23:05who whine about the fact that we get
2894. 1:23:06good traffic over at Daily Wire because
2895. 1:23:08we happen to be conservative
2896. 1:23:09and and then say that we're clickbait.
2897. 1:23:11These are the same people who will run a
2898. 1:23:123,000 word piece about some jackass of a
2899. 1:23:1519-year-old student who decides to out
2900. 1:23:18a high school cheerleader who once
2901. 1:23:20texted something about learning to
2902. 1:23:23thrive and quoted a rap lyric with the N
2903. 1:23:25word in it and got her kicked off the
  2904. 1:23:26University of Tennessee cheerleading
2905. 1:23:28team. The New York Times actually did
2906. 1:23:29that. The New York Times ran a long
2907. 1:23:30piece about this this terrible student.
  2908. 1:23:32I mean this guy's a
2909. 1:23:34terrible person who literally held
  2910. 1:23:35There's a 15-year-old girl as she got
  2911. 1:23:37her driver's permit. She put up a video
2912. 1:23:39on her phone saying something like I can
2913. 1:23:41drive now N word and it was obviously
  2914. 1:23:43meant to quote a rap lyric. I mean
2915. 1:23:45clearly meant to quote a rap lyric.
2916. 1:23:46Soft R. This was not a epithet aimed at
2917. 1:23:49a racial slur. Everybody acknowledged
2918. 1:23:50this, right? This is fully obvious. And
2919. 1:23:53this jerk decided cuz he was in her
2920. 1:23:54class, he decided that he was going to
2921. 1:23:56hold on to this video. He waited until I
2922. 1:23:58think it was 3 years later. Just kept
2923. 1:24:00this video around. Waited until 3 years
2924. 1:24:02later when Black Lives Matter happened
2925. 1:24:03and she made the grave misfortune of
2926. 1:24:05posting something in support of Black
2927. 1:24:07Lives Matter. And he said, well, you say
2928. 1:24:09you support Black Lives Matter, you said
2929. 1:24:10this. Boom. Puts out the video. The
  2930. 1:24:12University of Tennessee
  2931. 1:24:14withdraws her her cheerleading
2932. 1:24:15scholarship which was her dream was to
2933. 1:24:16be the on the University of Tennessee
2934. 1:24:18cheerleading team which is one of the
2935. 1:24:19great cheerleading teams in the country.
2936. 1:24:20She had to withdraw her entire admission
2937. 1:24:23from University of Tennessee over this.
2938. 1:24:25Okay, we are creating an unlivable
2939. 1:24:26culture. It is only livable for people
2940. 1:24:28on the hard left. And by the way,
  2941. 1:24:29everybody knows this. Everybody It it's
2942. 1:24:31not even going to be livable for them.
  2943. 1:24:34Ultimately, it's not, yeah. Revolutions
2944. 1:24:36Revolutions eat their own. Every one of
2945. 1:24:38them is going to burn. All the people
2946. 1:24:40like you talk about our publicists over
2947. 1:24:42at Media Matters and Sleeping Giants and
2948. 1:24:44Judd Lum Lum and Kevin Roose and Kara
  2949. 1:24:46Swisher, they don't know they're all
2950. 1:24:49doomed. Not because of us.
  2951. 1:24:51[laughter]
2952. 1:24:51Not because of us because they're not
  2953. 1:24:5323. Yeah. They're not woke 23-year-olds.
2954. 1:24:56The woke 23-year-olds will one day eat
2955. 1:24:59them for lunch. Yeah. Yeah, but think of
2956. 1:25:02poor Trotsky, you know? Trotsky
2957. 1:25:04[laughter] thought he had it so well.
2958. 1:25:05Yeah. Yeah. If you ever hear a ringing
2959. 1:25:07in your ear, guys. Nice pick. Nice pick.
  2960. 1:25:09And it ain't us bringing
  2961. 1:25:11That's That's why you know, sometimes
2962. 1:25:12you hear people on the right and they'll
2963. 1:25:13lament this happening to some of the
  2964. 1:25:14cancellers.
  2965. 1:25:16Nope.
2966. 1:25:17Nope. They deserve every bit of what
2967. 1:25:18they've got coming to them. They built
2968. 1:25:20this and they they deserve what they
2969. 1:25:21have coming to them. I can object to it
2970. 1:25:22happening to them and still recognize
2971. 1:25:23that they have exactly what they built
  2972. 1:25:25coming to them.
2973. 1:25:26It's It's really interesting to me who
2974. 1:25:28has always you know, I've been an artist
2975. 1:25:30all my life. Half the people I know are
2976. 1:25:32gay. I've worked with all these gay
  2977. 1:25:33people. I've always enjoyed their
  2978. 1:25:35company. They're hilariously funny. All
2979. 1:25:37this stuff. I once went snorkeling with
2980. 1:25:38Ryan Anderson who wrote When [laughter]
  2981. 1:25:39Harry Became Sally. So I'm Ryan and I
2982. 1:25:42together as one gay guy.
  2983. 1:25:43Yeah, that I mean I don't know
  2984. 1:25:46But I remember but I remember back in
2985. 1:25:47the day, seriously, liberals liberals
2986. 1:25:50who wouldn't come back to my house
2987. 1:25:52because they met a gay person there.
2988. 1:25:54They wouldn't come back to to see me
  2989. 1:25:55because they'd come to a party and there
2990. 1:25:57was a gay couple there. And and those
2991. 1:25:59same people those same people are
2992. 1:26:00walking around with their rainbow flags
2993. 1:26:02now and and and canceling any and I just
  2994. 1:26:05think like it's it's all malarkey. This
2995. 1:26:07is the thing that really gets me. It's
2996. 1:26:09all a grift. It has nothing to do with
2997. 1:26:12the happiness of gay people, of black
2998. 1:26:15people, of women, of trans It has
2999. 1:26:16nothing to do with any of that. Is the
3000. 1:26:18world happier because of cancel culture?
3001. 1:26:20It is much much more
3002. 1:26:21by the way, this is sort of the thesis
3003. 1:26:23of the my first book with words
  3004. 1:26:25[laughter]
3005. 1:26:25is this kind of thing.
3006. 1:26:26minute. Wait a minute. This is shocking.
3007. 1:26:28We'll see if I can finish it. It but
  3008. 1:26:30that political correctness basically
3009. 1:26:31replaces moral codes with speech codes.
3010. 1:26:33The old moral codes with the new speech
3011. 1:26:35codes. So it matters much less what you
3012. 1:26:36do. It actually doesn't really matter at
3013. 1:26:38all what you do. It matters what you say
3014. 1:26:40and the imposition of that because the
3015. 1:26:42My Fair Lady is like it doesn't matter
3016. 1:26:44what you do as long as you say it
3017. 1:26:46correctly. I think about this with the
3018. 1:26:47actor Armie Hammer. Yeah, Armie. Who you
  3019. 1:26:49guys know was
3020. 1:26:51many years ago a good a good friend of
3021. 1:26:53mine, a good pal of mine and in later
3022. 1:26:55years we've not been close. Our our
3023. 1:26:58paths have taken us in different
  3024. 1:26:58directions and he doesn't share our
  3025. 1:27:00politics but still a guy I'm very fond
  3026. 1:27:02of. Um
3027. 1:27:04and he said some things on to some gals
  3028. 1:27:07that are
3029. 1:27:09hard to read. Yeah. [clears throat]
  3030. 1:27:10Yeah. They're weird. He He expressed
3031. 1:27:12sexual predilections to them and for
  3032. 1:27:15that
3033. 1:27:16he's being erased from the world.
  3034. 1:27:17I I don't even understand the story.
3035. 1:27:19This is my point. So Armie says, you
  3036. 1:27:22know,
3037. 1:27:23I want to eat toes and I'd like to eat
3038. 1:27:24your rib and some other things. And who
  3039. 1:27:26among us hasn't?
  3040. 1:27:27Ribs are delicious.
  3041. 1:27:29[laughter]
  3042. 1:27:30Oh wait, human
3043. 1:27:33Just taking back what Adam once gave.
  3044. 1:27:35[laughter]
  3045. 1:27:36If
  3046. 1:27:38Armie didn't eat anybody. Yeah, right.
  3047. 1:27:40Armie didn't
  3048. 1:27:42drug and sodomize a 13-year-old girl
3049. 1:27:46like Roman Polanski did and Harrison
3050. 1:27:49Ford flew to France to give him an
3051. 1:27:51honorary Oscar. Yeah. Like This is why I
  3052. 1:27:54don't get this.
3053. 1:27:55It's only what you say. There he he
3054. 1:27:57expressed some words. He expressed some
  3055. 1:27:59dark fantasies.
3056. 1:28:02As I understood the story, he he has
3057. 1:28:04some kind of weird sexual fetish that he
3058. 1:28:06performed on some of these girls who
3059. 1:28:09were there. They didn't stop him from
  3060. 1:28:11doing this. I'm not understand I don't
  3061. 1:28:13understand what he's being canceled for.
3062. 1:28:15Like in other words, like I I saw what
  3063. 1:28:17he was doing.
3064. 1:28:17in consensual sex. Yeah. And he said
3065. 1:28:20that he would like to eat a rib or eat a
  3066. 1:28:21couple of toes
3067. 1:28:22in some direct messages and for this he
  3068. 1:28:24must be destroyed.
  3069. 1:28:25Now, I'm not making a moral defense of
3070. 1:28:28No, that Yeah, it is. It is definitely
3071. 1:28:29very disordered. But I am saying what
3072. 1:28:33what did he I was trying to think of
3073. 1:28:34puns to be honest with you. No, come on.
3074. 1:28:36Come on. No, there yeah, there were
3075. 1:28:37there were a lot of good ones, right?
  3076. 1:28:39[laughter]
3077. 1:28:39Talk to me after the show.
  3078. 1:28:41That was an interesting
3079. 1:28:43story because it should cuz Cosmopolitan
3080. 1:28:45magazine actually published an article
  3081. 1:28:47after that
  3082. 1:28:49defending um cannibalism fetishes.
  3083. 1:28:52That's right. And I I read I read the
3084. 1:28:54article for some reason. I always Yeah,
3085. 1:28:56I read the article for some reason and
3086. 1:28:57it just struck me that um
3087. 1:29:00that this is kind of off topic a little
  3088. 1:29:01bit I guess but it's just our culture
  3089. 1:29:03has no language anymore
  3090. 1:29:05to condemn
3091. 1:29:07any kind of perversion because it's all
3092. 1:29:09about consent. And so it
3093. 1:29:11the only language the only the only
3094. 1:29:13moral rule we have left is consent. And
3095. 1:29:15that's all comes down to consent. And as
3096. 1:29:17long as people consent, then we have no
3097. 1:29:18language with which to condemn anything.
3098. 1:29:21And so this article was going through
3099. 1:29:23it it you know it couldn't just come out
3100. 1:29:25and say, "Well, this is wrong to want to
3101. 1:29:27eat people. That's weird and wrong." It
3102. 1:29:28couldn't say that. So instead it was
3103. 1:29:30trying to figure out how, "Well, he
3104. 1:29:32didn't really have consent and
3105. 1:29:33you know how they did this the the
3106. 1:29:35greatest version of this, forget forget
3107. 1:29:36Army's thing, was Marilyn Manson.
3108. 1:29:39Marilyn Manson is being accused by the
  3109. 1:29:40actress Evan Rachel Wood, who's very
3110. 1:29:42left-wing but just testified on this and
3111. 1:29:44some other women of engaging in very
  3112. 1:29:47sort of bizarre sexual behaviors. We're
3113. 1:29:49not just talking about fantasies
  3114. 1:29:50anymore. And
3115. 1:29:52the thing is these women were in
  3116. 1:29:53long-standing relationships with him.
3117. 1:29:55And so when Evan Rachel Wood, and I I
3118. 1:29:57really take her side in this, but she's
  3119. 1:29:58saying, "Well, I know we were in a
  3120. 1:30:00consensual relationship, but it wasn't
  3121. 1:30:02really consensual because, you know, I
3122. 1:30:04was brainwashed, he manipulated me, you
  3123. 1:30:06know,
  3124. 1:30:07fine I I totally understand that
  3125. 1:30:09argument. But that argument doesn't work
3126. 1:30:12in the modern liberal framework."
  3127. 1:30:13Actually I don't I actually disagree
  3128. 1:30:15with you guys about this. I I think I
  3129. 1:30:16agree with a fundamental point that
  3130. 1:30:19you're making that consent isn't the
3131. 1:30:20ultimate definition of morality. Yeah.
  3132. 1:30:22But consent is
  3133. 1:30:24consent but that doesn't mean that
  3134. 1:30:26consent isn't a standard. Yeah. And I
  3135. 1:30:28don't And it's a legal standard for
3136. 1:30:30sure. Well, it's more that is the only
3137. 1:30:31standard that the left applies. How do
3138. 1:30:32you cancel somebody on the basis of
3139. 1:30:34violate of violating a standard you have
  3140. 1:30:35not violated?
  3141. 1:30:36Right. Right. I mean I I can understand
  3142. 1:30:38conservatives saying, "That's weird and
3143. 1:30:39perverse and we don't want to be
  3144. 1:30:41And and it's always wrong. We're not
3145. 1:30:42going to be patronizing businesses with
3146. 1:30:44people who want to eat each other's toes
3147. 1:30:45cuz it's weird. Um but for liberals for
3148. 1:30:48whom literally nothing is off limits so
3149. 1:30:50long as it is consensual, there is no
3150. 1:30:52there is no basis for canceling
  3151. 1:30:54It's a weak It's a weak standard. So but
3152. 1:30:55the but the point is they they've
3153. 1:30:58If if if your standard for judging the
3154. 1:31:00morality of a sexual act is is is
3155. 1:31:01something like love, uh devotion, you
3156. 1:31:04are you respecting the dignity of the
3157. 1:31:06other person, well then you don't have
3158. 1:31:07to talk about consent at all because
3159. 1:31:09that's included in the love, devotion,
3160. 1:31:10and dignity bit. Uh but you get rid of
3161. 1:31:12all that and it all comes down to to to
3162. 1:31:14consent. And that's why you have all
3163. 1:31:15these you know, all these cases on
3164. 1:31:18college campuses. A woman wakes up the
  3165. 1:31:19next day
3166. 1:31:21she had consensual sex with a man, but
3167. 1:31:22she feels used and cheap and dirty. And
3168. 1:31:25and and she and she was used. You know,
3169. 1:31:27she was used like an object, but she did
3170. 1:31:29consent to it. And the problem is not
3171. 1:31:31that she didn't consent, the problem is
3172. 1:31:32that it was not sex with dignity and
  3173. 1:31:33love. But she doesn't have that
3174. 1:31:35language. So instead she figures, "Well,
  3175. 1:31:37this feels wrong and I didn't really
  3176. 1:31:38give consent." So I must yeah, I must
3177. 1:31:40not have gotten give given consent even
  3178. 1:31:41though I did. And so
3179. 1:31:43That's a great point. That is absolute
3180. 1:31:44You know, It It is a great point
3181. 1:31:46until you say you're taking Rachel Evan
  3182. 1:31:48Wood's side. I'm I'm I'm sort of taking
3183. 1:31:50her side. I'm not taking it all the way.
  3184. 1:31:51where I disagree with you. I agree with
3185. 1:31:53everything you just said as a moral
  3186. 1:31:54standard.
  3187. 1:31:55But I'm not I'm not saying that Marilyn
3188. 1:31:56Manson for the for the the sort of
  3189. 1:31:59consensual acts that he's being accused
3190. 1:32:01of hit not being consensual or
  3191. 1:32:02something. I'm not I'm not saying he
3192. 1:32:04ought to go to jail for I think I think
  3193. 1:32:05you're saying that I think you're making
3194. 1:32:06the same point that Matt is. He's not he
3195. 1:32:07you're you're not saying that you take
3196. 1:32:08Evan Rachel Wood's side in the sense
3197. 1:32:10that he has violated some sort of
3198. 1:32:12left-wing cultural standard and ought to
3199. 1:32:14or civil law. ought to be or civil law.
3200. 1:32:16And ought to be ended that way. I think
3201. 1:32:17you're just saying what what Matt is
3202. 1:32:18saying, which is that violated moral
  3203. 1:32:20law. I I fundamentally though object to
3204. 1:32:22the idea that you can retroactively
3205. 1:32:24remove consent because of regret.
  3206. 1:32:27No, I agree. Absolutely. Absolutely.
3207. 1:32:29But but the point that Matt is making is
3208. 1:32:31such a perceptive one, which is that
  3209. 1:32:33people aren't actively
  3210. 1:32:34it's it's a lie, in other words, when
  3211. 1:32:36they say that they're retroactively
3212. 1:32:37removing consent, the only moral
3213. 1:32:39standard they have is consent. But they
3214. 1:32:40know they feel like something wrong just
3215. 1:32:42happened to them, so they do not have
3216. 1:32:43the language to express that You know
  3217. 1:32:45what they're getting what morality has
3218. 1:32:46been violated other than by
3219. 1:32:47retroactively saying that the only value
3220. 1:32:49they have was violated. Since I know it
3221. 1:32:51was bad, it must not have been consent.
  3222. 1:32:52Correct. I know exactly. There's an
3223. 1:32:53irony here though, which is that you
  3224. 1:32:55have these left-wingers grappling at
3225. 1:32:57this very traditional definition of
3226. 1:33:00consent and liberty. The kind of
3227. 1:33:02Aristotelian or old classical Christian
3228. 1:33:04idea, which is that if you're constantly
3229. 1:33:07in vice and sin, you're not actually
3230. 1:33:09free, right? The man who sins is a slave
3231. 1:33:11to sin. The The example I use is the
3232. 1:33:13heroin addict. By By the kind of modern
3233. 1:33:15leftist standard of liberty, the heroin
3234. 1:33:17addict is the freest guy in the world,
  3235. 1:33:19right? As long as he's got a couple
3236. 1:33:20bucks in his pocket, he can shoot up, he
3237. 1:33:21can pursue his appetites however he
3238. 1:33:23wants. But we all know the heroin addict
3239. 1:33:26is the least free person on earth.
3240. 1:33:28This is This is the thing, you know, you
3241. 1:33:30and I like the show Billions Billions is
3242. 1:33:32it Yeah. And and it features this this
  3243. 1:33:34guy who's a prosecutor who is a a
  3244. 1:33:37masochist. He's a sexual masochist and
3245. 1:33:39it begins and he's you know, for me like
  3246. 1:33:41masochism and sado-masochism is like you
3247. 1:33:43flick people with a towel, you know, but
3248. 1:33:45this is like sticking cigarettes on me.
  3249. 1:33:47I was like [laughter] it's not it's not
3250. 1:33:49a joke, you know, but he's in a loving
3251. 1:33:51relationship with his wife where they do
3252. 1:33:53this thing. And what you're left with is
3253. 1:33:56something's wrong with him. Yeah. You
  3254. 1:33:57know, it's not it's not that they're
3255. 1:33:59doing anything illegal and it's not even
  3256. 1:34:00that they're outside of a a loving
  3257. 1:34:02relationship because for a large period
  3258. 1:34:04of the show they're actually in a loving
  3259. 1:34:06relationship, but something's the matter
  3260. 1:34:07with him. And and it's you know, it's
  3261. 1:34:09when I look at
  3262. 1:34:11the guy who's supposed to be a girl
  3263. 1:34:13who's in the
3264. 1:34:14now the Health and Human Services, but
  3265. 1:34:16Rachel Levine
3266. 1:34:18I think like you know,
3267. 1:34:19I have nothing but sympathy for this
  3268. 1:34:21person. Yeah. But something's wrong with
  3269. 1:34:23him. You know, there's something the
3270. 1:34:25matter with him. And and I think that
3271. 1:34:26like we have to be able to talk about
  3272. 1:34:28that without necessarily
3273. 1:34:31moral judgment, but at least with some
  3274. 1:34:33kind of
3275. 1:34:33Because right now the argument is,
3276. 1:34:35"Well, you can do whatever you want as
3277. 1:34:36long as you consent to it." But the
  3278. 1:34:38question then is, "Well,
  3279. 1:34:40if there's something that's a little
3280. 1:34:41wrong, maybe we do need to qualify
3281. 1:34:43that." But two things can be true at
3282. 1:34:44once, which is two things can be true at
3283. 1:34:46once, which is you can do anything that
3284. 1:34:49you consent to as long as you're an
3285. 1:34:50adult, but that doesn't make it right.
3286. 1:34:51That's right. And this is something that
3287. 1:34:52and this is this is something that and
3288. 1:34:53and this is an ethos that is completely
3289. 1:34:56foreign to the left. Yeah.
  3290. 1:34:57Right. This is where they're running
3291. 1:34:58into trouble because the ethos that you
3292. 1:34:59can do something wrong but still it can
3293. 1:35:02be wrong Yeah. Yeah. is something that
  3294. 1:35:04the left isn't fundamentally does not
  3295. 1:35:05accept, right? It's why they're now
3296. 1:35:06cracking back against freedom of
3297. 1:35:07association and freedom of speech and
3298. 1:35:09all individual rights, right? If you can
3299. 1:35:10misuse freedom of speech, that means
3300. 1:35:12that freedom of speech should actively
  3301. 1:35:13be curbed. Right.
3302. 1:35:14If you misuse freedom of association,
3303. 1:35:15freedom of association should should
3304. 1:35:16actively be curbed. The right
  3305. 1:35:18understands that there is a difference
3306. 1:35:19between the right to do wrong and the
3307. 1:35:22possibility of doing wrong with that
3308. 1:35:24right. Right? That that you can you can
  3309. 1:35:26abuse a right, but that doesn't vitiate
  3310. 1:35:28the central right that you're talking
3311. 1:35:29about. The left fundamentally does not
3312. 1:35:31understand this. So what this creates is
  3313. 1:35:32this bizarre situation where they'll
3314. 1:35:34know something is wrong and they can't
3315. 1:35:35explain why it's wrong or which rule it
3316. 1:35:38has violated. And so they have to post
3317. 1:35:39facto create a rule that allows them to
  3318. 1:35:42bar that thing.
  3319. 1:35:43Right? Because because they can't accept
3320. 1:35:45the idea that somebody could do
  3321. 1:35:46something wrong and also it wouldn't
3322. 1:35:47violate any of their chief principles
  3323. 1:35:48because in essence they're
  3324. 1:35:49authoritarian, right? In essence
3325. 1:35:51everything they don't like ought to be
3326. 1:35:52banned. And so if they can't even come
3327. 1:35:54up with a good reason in their own head
3328. 1:35:55why it ought to be banned, they will
3329. 1:35:56come up with a new rule or they will
3330. 1:35:57spin the rule so that that thing ought
  3331. 1:35:59to be banned. And that's incredibly
3332. 1:36:00dangerous. This is the my only question
3333. 1:36:02for any leftist ever really. This is
3334. 1:36:04what This is what I would ask if I got
  3335. 1:36:05to ask a question at a Democrat debate.
3336. 1:36:08Is Is there anything that you believe is
  3337. 1:36:11bad
3338. 1:36:12that should not be banned by government?
3339. 1:36:15Is there anything you believe is good
3340. 1:36:17that should not be mandated by
  3341. 1:36:18government?
  3342. 1:36:20You know,
  3343. 1:36:21it's so it's it's incredibly biblical
3344. 1:36:23even for your half of the Bible.
  3345. 1:36:25[laughter]
  3346. 1:36:26No, it's incredibly biblical that what
3347. 1:36:28we talk about why God allows
  3348. 1:36:31evil. And there's a
3349. 1:36:32large body of discussion about this. And
3350. 1:36:35one of the ideas is that because he
3351. 1:36:37believes that men have to be free and
3352. 1:36:40men and women have to be free in order
3353. 1:36:41to love God, in order to serve God
3354. 1:36:43freely. But that means that you can not
  3355. 1:36:45do that. And so that's that's the the
3356. 1:36:47relationship of power to the people who
3357. 1:36:50are less powerful is yes, you have to
3358. 1:36:52have the right to do things that are are
  3359. 1:36:54wrong.
  3360. 1:36:54But I do think I think That doesn't mean
  3361. 1:36:55that they're right. That's why wokeism
  3362. 1:36:57is a pagan religion. Yes. Yeah, I know.
3363. 1:36:59Wokeism does not allow I do I do think
3364. 1:37:00though the left is saying something even
  3365. 1:37:02more radical, which is they're saying,
3366. 1:37:04"I'm not really free." You know, in the
3367. 1:37:05case of Evan Rachel Wood or something,
3368. 1:37:06she's saying, "I'm not free to consent
  3369. 1:37:09for whatever reason, you know, I I was
3370. 1:37:10manipulated or whatever." And this
3371. 1:37:13actually gets to something the Founders
3372. 1:37:15talked about. This gets to something
3373. 1:37:17that sort of classical Lord Acton talks
  3374. 1:37:19about actually, classical theoreticians
3375. 1:37:22of of liberty, which is
3376. 1:37:24to be free, you actually have to be a a
3377. 1:37:27moral and religious people in the words
3378. 1:37:28of John Adams, or you need to
3379. 1:37:31practice the virtues and and cultivate
3380. 1:37:32that. The point of liberal education is
3381. 1:37:34to do this, right? It's why we take
3382. 1:37:36little kids who are just basically
3383. 1:37:38appetite machines and doing everything
3384. 1:37:39that's bad for them, we educate them in
3385. 1:37:41their liberty and hopefully they can
3386. 1:37:43kind of tame it and be able to master
3387. 1:37:46that. But what the left is saying is
  3388. 1:37:49we don't have that. We we're just
3389. 1:37:51appetite Well, one one Well, so one of
3390. 1:37:52the things that that happened and just
  3391. 1:37:54philosophically that was a really
3392. 1:37:56radical shift in in sort of how Western
3393. 1:37:58thought went is that it used to be that
3394. 1:38:01people perceived natural law in the way
3395. 1:38:02the Catholic Church perceived natural
3396. 1:38:04law, which is you can look at the at the
3397. 1:38:05way that nature is constituted and you
3398. 1:38:06can derive from it rational rules as to
3399. 1:38:08how the world should work and natural
3400. 1:38:10rules of virtue as to how you should
3401. 1:38:11live your life, right? And that is
3402. 1:38:13embedded in the laws of nature and
3403. 1:38:14nature's God as is the language of the
3404. 1:38:16of the Declaration of Independence. And
  3405. 1:38:18the there was a shift that happened, I
  3406. 1:38:20particularly in the 19th century, from
3407. 1:38:22the idea of natural law to nature as
3408. 1:38:25guide, right? As in scientific nature.
3409. 1:38:27As in if something happened to you and
3410. 1:38:28it was natural to you, you had a natural
3411. 1:38:30desire, then this meant that this
3412. 1:38:32natural desire was justified. And you
3413. 1:38:34see this is this you can see this in in
3414. 1:38:36I mean to to be, you know, as as sort of
3415. 1:38:39cretinous as possible in terms of public
3416. 1:38:40culture, if you look at Lady Gaga's Born
3417. 1:38:42This Way, right? This is the argument.
3418. 1:38:43If it is natural for you to do it, is
3419. 1:38:45therefore good for you. Well, that is
3420. 1:38:46the precise opposite of what natural law
3421. 1:38:48suggests, which is it may be natural for
  3422. 1:38:50you to have a particular inclination,
3423. 1:38:51but the world around you suggests a
3424. 1:38:53particular set of rules and you are
3425. 1:38:54supposed to incline yourself toward that
3426. 1:38:56particular set of rules in violation of
3427. 1:38:58your own right in in cuz man was meant
3428. 1:39:00to reason. But the the the this goes
3429. 1:39:02back to I think the another fundamental
3430. 1:39:05distinction that the left is is now
3431. 1:39:07attempting to conflate. There was an
3432. 1:39:08entire editorial in the New York Times
3433. 1:39:10today that was kind of fascinating. And
3434. 1:39:12it was a complaint about why Western
3435. 1:39:13philosophy was so focused on separating
  3436. 1:39:15man from animals. I don't know if you
3437. 1:39:16guys saw this. It was kind of
3438. 1:39:17fascinating. All right, it was it was an
3439. 1:39:19entire essay about why do you know, all
3440. 1:39:21of Western philosophy is dedicated
3441. 1:39:22toward the idea that man is not the same
3442. 1:39:24as a squirrel. And this is very bad. We
3443. 1:39:26should actually allow man to just be the
3444. 1:39:27same as a squirrel because squirrels are
3445. 1:39:29natural and squirrels have and and human
3446. 1:39:31beings are natural and we should
3447. 1:39:32acknowledge we are not just our reason,
3448. 1:39:33we are not just our prefrontal cortex,
3449. 1:39:35we are all of the elements of us, right?
3450. 1:39:37And Western philosophy was built around
3451. 1:39:39the idea that we are not the same as
  3452. 1:39:40animals specifically because Western
3453. 1:39:42philosophy was built around the idea
3454. 1:39:43that man was made for a purpose. And
3455. 1:39:45that [clears throat] purpose was to
3456. 1:39:46reason. That purpose was to use our
3457. 1:39:48brains in order to seek out God and to
3458. 1:39:50seek out the rules to live a virtuous
3459. 1:39:52life. And the left has attempted to
3460. 1:39:53vitiate that. This is why This is why
3461. 1:39:56Darwinian theory did so much damage to
  3462. 1:39:57religion. Not because there's anything
3463. 1:39:59that doesn't fit in terms of evolution
3464. 1:40:01religion. You can square that circle for
3465. 1:40:02sure. But what really finished it was
3466. 1:40:05the idea that man is an animal and once
3467. 1:40:07you treat man as an animal and there's
  3468. 1:40:08no fixed nature. Nature's evolving or
3469. 1:40:11But but more importantly that that
3470. 1:40:13you there is nothing better about the
3471. 1:40:15prefrontal cortex than the amygdala. And
  3472. 1:40:16there's nothing there's nothing
  3473. 1:40:17preferable about being a reasonable
3474. 1:40:19person as opposed to being an emotional
3475. 1:40:20person or a person who just follows
3476. 1:40:22their passion follows their nature.
3477. 1:40:23worth pointing out when Woodrow Wilson
3478. 1:40:25our you know, sort of first first
  3479. 1:40:27progressive president in American
3480. 1:40:28history. Yeah, the first you know, and
3481. 1:40:29and the first left progressive
3482. 1:40:30president. He who destroyed the entire
3483. 1:40:32country. When he writes about what is
3484. 1:40:34progress, what is progressivism, he uses
3485. 1:40:37that exact exa- example. He says the
3486. 1:40:38Constitution is based on the science of
3487. 1:40:41Newton. Fixed laws, permanent nature,
3488. 1:40:44all these sorts of things. But we know
3489. 1:40:46that's bunk. We now live in the age of
  3490. 1:40:48Darwin. I don't think Woodrow
3491. 1:40:49[clears throat] Wilson understood Darwin
3492. 1:40:50very well anyway, but he says Darwin,
  3493. 1:40:52nothing's fixed. It's all just kind of a
  3494. 1:40:54continuum man, we're not that different
3495. 1:40:56and therefore throw out all those
3496. 1:40:59permanent So have we got have we gotten
  3497. 1:41:00to a point where cuz I've been thinking
3498. 1:41:02about this a lot. Have we gotten to a
  3499. 1:41:03point where
3500. 1:41:06the whole conversation around rights is
  3501. 1:41:08is just hopeless
  3502. 1:41:10because we can't
  3503. 1:41:12you get a hundred Americans into a room,
3504. 1:41:14you ask them what what is what does it
3505. 1:41:15mean to have a right, what is a human
3506. 1:41:17right and you're not going to get even a
3507. 1:41:1950% agreement. Nobody has an idea even
3508. 1:41:20what these things are. We don't have the
  3509. 1:41:22same We don't have the philosophical
3510. 1:41:23grounding for it. Have we gotten to a
3511. 1:41:25point where where we you know, maybe we
  3512. 1:41:27stop
3513. 1:41:28maybe we as conservatives stop framing
3514. 1:41:30our arguments so much around rights and
3515. 1:41:32find a different framework for it. Like
  3516. 1:41:33so for example
  3517. 1:41:35um
  3518. 1:41:36abortion.
3519. 1:41:38And so for for so long pro-lifers would
3520. 1:41:40say we have a right to life.
3521. 1:41:42And that that that actually raises a lot
3522. 1:41:44of questions. Like what what do you mean
3523. 1:41:45a right to life? A a right against whom?
3524. 1:41:47Who who are you claiming this right
  3525. 1:41:49against?
3526. 1:41:50Right, exactly. And if if you have a
3527. 1:41:52right to life, does that mean that you
3528. 1:41:53can't be executed and so on.
  3529. 1:41:54Um maybe a better
3530. 1:41:56our word would be responsibility. And so
3531. 1:41:58what we should be saying is
3532. 1:42:00and I believe we do have a right to life
3533. 1:42:02understood a certain way, but maybe we
  3534. 1:42:04should be saying that
  3535. 1:42:05um a parent has a responsibility
3536. 1:42:08to their child. And what that means at a
3537. 1:42:11minimum is that you can't kill your
3538. 1:42:12child. You have to provide for them. We
3539. 1:42:14all agree with that when it comes to
3540. 1:42:15born children. You let your kids starve
3541. 1:42:17to death, you go to jail. It's kind of
  3542. 1:42:18traditional conservative framing too.
3543. 1:42:20Maybe maybe responsibility instead of
  3544. 1:42:21right.
3545. 1:42:22I got into this brief Twitter exchange
3546. 1:42:24with David French, one one of the things
  3547. 1:42:26I said was
3548. 1:42:27you you are endowed by your creator with
3549. 1:42:30certain rights and government is
3550. 1:42:32instituted among men to ensure those
3551. 1:42:34rights. So if those rights are under
  3552. 1:42:36threat, it doesn't matter where they're
  3553. 1:42:38under threat. From government has a
3554. 1:42:39right to stop that threat. And many many
3555. 1:42:42people came on this this Twitter thread
3556. 1:42:44and said, oh, any argument from God is
  3557. 1:42:47absurd.
3558. 1:42:48But the problem the problem with that is
3559. 1:42:50that's actually the axiom of our
  3560. 1:42:52civilization. It is the self-evident
3561. 1:42:55truth that doesn't have to be proved, it
3562. 1:42:57only has to be asserted because
3563. 1:42:58everything else is built on top of it.
3564. 1:43:00You can't remove it. You cannot remove
  3565. 1:43:02that assumption and we shouldn't be
3566. 1:43:03afraid to make that assumption because
3567. 1:43:05it's the axiom of the
3568. 1:43:07common argument that the founders
3569. 1:43:09consistently made and which they were
3570. 1:43:10right about, which is that the other
3571. 1:43:11half of right is duty.
3572. 1:43:13All right, rights and duties were just
3573. 1:43:14the flip side of each other. Your right
3574. 1:43:15to life is my duty not to kill you.
3575. 1:43:17Right? And and your right to free speech
3576. 1:43:18is my duty not to inhibit your free
3577. 1:43:19speech. And we all understood this
3578. 1:43:20fundamentally. What we have done is we
3579. 1:43:22have dumped the duty and we have kept
3580. 1:43:24the rights. And so once you dump the
3581. 1:43:25duty, then you can have rights against
3582. 1:43:27anyone for anything because you have no
3583. 1:43:29duty not to infringe on them.
3584. 1:43:30going to say dump the duty is a funny
  3585. 1:43:32phrase, but go ahead.
  3586. 1:43:33[laughter]
3587. 1:43:34That got very Yeah, it's true. Bringing
3588. 1:43:35nothing back to the show. I I think on
3589. 1:43:38that elevated note, I want to [laughter]
  3590. 1:43:40do something that we haven't done in a
  3591. 1:43:41while. I'm going to This has been a
3592. 1:43:42great conversation. I want to wrap out
  3593. 1:43:45the show with 10 rapid-fire questions
  3594. 1:43:48from our dailywire.com subscribers.
3595. 1:43:50Elecia is going to bring them to us.
  3596. 1:43:51Here's the rules.
3597. 1:43:53What whoever the question is addressed
3598. 1:43:55at, they're the only one to make an
  3599. 1:43:57answer and it's a
3600. 1:43:58and it's a fast pithy answer. We want to
  3601. 1:44:00get through 10 rapid-fire questions.
  3602. 1:44:02[laughter]
  3603. 1:44:03Elecia.
3604. 1:44:05All right, the first question goes to
  3605. 1:44:06Michael Knowles. A dailywire.com member
3606. 1:44:08wants to know they live in a liberal
  3607. 1:44:10Mecca and they're considering leaving
  3608. 1:44:11like the dailywire.com did, but should
3609. 1:44:14they be considering this and what do you
  3610. 1:44:16think their options and decision-making
  3611. 1:44:17should be considering they don't have a
3612. 1:44:19job or housing situation set up yet?
3613. 1:44:21Well, you're probably more likely to get
  3614. 1:44:22a job in a cheaper house in a
3615. 1:44:24conservative place. So I think those are
3616. 1:44:25both marks actually in favor of coming
3617. 1:44:27here. I love it. I wish we came here
3618. 1:44:29sooner. I love being in a red state and
  3619. 1:44:32specifically in Tennessee. All I will
  3620. 1:44:36have a caveat here is
3621. 1:44:38I feel I got a lot out of growing up in
3622. 1:44:42left-wing places cuz I learned all the
3623. 1:44:44stupidest arguments and it cost me a lot
3624. 1:44:46of time and it impelled a lot of bad
  3625. 1:44:47behavior, but I feel I came out stronger
3626. 1:44:49and wiser for it. That was a
  3627. 1:44:51constructive process.
  3628. 1:44:53However, if you're already formed and
3629. 1:44:55comfort is your is your goal, come on
3630. 1:44:57over baby, Tennessee is fabulous.
3631. 1:45:00All right, this question goes to Matt.
3632. 1:45:03People want to know, do you think that
3633. 1:45:04the general public or major corporations
3634. 1:45:07will ever grow a spine and just say no
3635. 1:45:10to the woke mob and the Twitterati?
  3636. 1:45:13No.
  3637. 1:45:14[laughter]
  3638. 1:45:16Supposed to be rapid-fire, right? God
3639. 1:45:18king, I think Matt took that like those
  3640. 1:45:20instructions a little too seriously.
3641. 1:45:22[laughter] Can we give him like 280
  3642. 1:45:24characters?
3643. 1:45:26I think he said it all.
3644. 1:45:30All right, Drew, who would win a cage
3645. 1:45:32match between Gina Carano and the entire
  3646. 1:45:34dailywire.com Oh, we'd we'd be killed.
  3647. 1:45:36Are you kidding? She'd kill us.
  3648. 1:45:37[laughter]
3649. 1:45:39In in my youth I might have given her
3650. 1:45:41one I might have gotten one slug in, but
  3651. 1:45:42now it's it's over.
3652. 1:45:45Media matter. In his youth Andrew Klavan
  3653. 1:45:47would have punched a woman.
  3654. 1:45:48[laughter]
  3655. 1:45:49Headlines write themselves.
  3656. 1:45:52[gasps]
  3657. 1:45:53All right,
3658. 1:45:54Jeremy, people want to know what kind of
3659. 1:45:56cigars are you guys smoking? I'm not
3660. 1:45:58smoking tonight. So I'm going to kick
3661. 1:46:00the question over to Mickey. Little
  3662. 1:46:02Davidoff Colorado Claro. Not a super
3663. 1:46:05duper expensive cigar, but it's got six
3664. 1:46:06years age on it from our buddies at our
  3665. 1:46:08old shop in LA.
3666. 1:46:11Ben, it is award season even though it
3667. 1:46:12seems a little weird in this age of
3668. 1:46:14COVID and people want to know what are
  3669. 1:46:16your Oscar picks.
3670. 1:46:17Oh my god. Well, all the ones that
3671. 1:46:18they've talked about for Oscars this
  3672. 1:46:20year absolutely suck or I haven't seen
  3673. 1:46:21them. So I I I really haven't seen many
3674. 1:46:24good movies this year. Run Hide Fight
3675. 1:46:25should win all of the Oscars.
  3676. 1:46:26[laughter]
3677. 1:46:27Aside from Aside from Run Hide Fight,
3678. 1:46:28the unproduced Gina Carano film should
3679. 1:46:30obviously also be nominated for next
  3680. 1:46:32year's Oscars. 2022. 2022. I
3681. 1:46:34you know, I'm trying to think of
  3682. 1:46:36anything that's really Have you guys
3683. 1:46:37seen anything good this year? I'm like
3684. 1:46:38I'm really I'm really trying to All the
3685. 1:46:40Oscar movies it's like Call Me By Your
3686. 1:46:41Moonlight or some nonsense and no one
3687. 1:46:43watches it. The Gentleman was Was that
3688. 1:46:45this year? Cuz that was a good
3689. 1:46:46Was it the Guy Ritchie film? Okay, I'll
3690. 1:46:47have to I'll have to give that one a
  3691. 1:46:48look.
  3692. 1:46:48It's really fun.
  3693. 1:46:51I got nothing.
  3694. 1:46:52Jeremy, this
  3695. 1:46:53this question is for you. A
3696. 1:46:54dailywire.com member wants to know which
3697. 1:46:56actor are you kind of hoping gets
3698. 1:46:58canceled next so you guys can snatch
  3699. 1:46:59[laughter] him up?
  3700. 1:47:01Well, I have a list.
  3701. 1:47:02I
3702. 1:47:04I hate to say an answer to that because
3703. 1:47:06it's so terrible. I will say that on the
3704. 1:47:07same day that fire Gina Carano was
  3705. 1:47:10trending,
3706. 1:47:11fire Chris Pratt was trending and
  3707. 1:47:14for God's sake, Hollywood, please.
  3708. 1:47:16[laughter]
3709. 1:47:16Please please send Chris Pratt to us.
3710. 1:47:21I love me some Chris Pratt. Out of all
3711. 1:47:23the Chrises, he's obvy the best. All
  3712. 1:47:25righty.
3713. 1:47:26Michael, do you think that we need more
3714. 1:47:27conservatives going into politics or
3715. 1:47:29going into cultural positions like
3716. 1:47:31filmmaking and producing and editing and
3717. 1:47:34all those things? Well, I think the
  3718. 1:47:36answer is yes and I also think it's a
3719. 1:47:37little bit of a blurry distinction, you
3720. 1:47:39know, because obviously politics, the
3721. 1:47:41biggest definition of it is what we all
  3722. 1:47:43do together, but it's a it's a
  3723. 1:47:45two-pronged approach because forget
  3724. 1:47:47elected politicians, they're always
3725. 1:47:48going to be sociopaths running for that.
3726. 1:47:50It's the bureaucracy that we lose in,
3727. 1:47:51the actual administrative state and the
3728. 1:47:54entire cultural apparatus and we just
3729. 1:47:56don't have anybody in any of those
3730. 1:47:58areas. So we we need to go into both and
  3731. 1:48:00both both are important. I don't think
3732. 1:48:02it's only win the culture and forget
  3733. 1:48:03about politics and I don't think it's
3734. 1:48:05only focus on bureaucratic politics and
3735. 1:48:07ignore culture. And technology and tech
  3736. 1:48:09and everything. Yeah.
3737. 1:48:12Matt, earlier on Twitter I saw that you
3738. 1:48:14retweeted Tomi Lahren. She said
  3739. 1:48:16Trump-DeSantis 2024. You said you agreed
3740. 1:48:19with half of the ticket. Other than
  3741. 1:48:20[laughter]
3742. 1:48:21Other than Ron DeSantis, who would you
3743. 1:48:23pick? Like what are your top three for
  3744. 1:48:25the GOP in 2024? I I don't have a top
  3745. 1:48:28three. I I like Ron DeSantis.
3746. 1:48:31I I hate almost all politicians. So for
3747. 1:48:33me to even say I like him is is me going
  3748. 1:48:35out on a limb. And I I I give him you
3749. 1:48:37know, that we've got three years four
3750. 1:48:39years left before so he could easily
  3751. 1:48:40disappoint me. I'll I'll be ready to
3752. 1:48:42toss him to the curb if he does, but um
  3753. 1:48:44I like Ron DeSantis.
3754. 1:48:45Ron DeSantis. Ron DeSantis is great.
  3755. 1:48:47He's
3756. 1:48:47the governor of my excellent new state
  3757. 1:48:49of Florida. He's a stud.
  3758. 1:48:51And I I really feel we don't have time
3759. 1:48:53to get into all this. It's supposed to
  3760. 1:48:54be rapid-fire, but I feel very strongly
  3761. 1:48:56that uh
3762. 1:48:58Ron DeSantis on the top of the ticket is
3763. 1:49:00a great idea. Trump on the top of the
  3764. 1:49:01ticket, I don't know if we want to
  3765. 1:49:03do all this again in 2024. Um so I I
3766. 1:49:07hate to interrupt cuz I said we had to
  3767. 1:49:08be rapid fire, but
3768. 1:49:10Candace Owens could would be formidable
3769. 1:49:12if she actually decided to make good on
3770. 1:49:13her tweet threat. It is true. It would
  3771. 1:49:16be formidable.
  3772. 1:49:16It is a true story.
  3773. 1:49:17I wouldn't want to run against her. I, I
3774. 1:49:18also, just to put a little plug in here,
3775. 1:49:21I would like to be the first podcast
3776. 1:49:23host. You know, so there's other There
3777. 1:49:25are other Republican politicians who
3778. 1:49:26could be out there. Wouldn't mind doing
3779. 1:49:28a podcast from Cancun. Yeah, just
  3780. 1:49:30throwing that out there.
  3781. 1:49:31Something I'm encouraging people to do.
3782. 1:49:34Uh, we all know that Michael is hoping
3783. 1:49:35that Ben runs so then he can get his
  3784. 1:49:37radio slot.
  3785. 1:49:38That's true. That's the way I could
3786. 1:49:39actually become the first podcast host
  3787. 1:49:41if I took [laughter] his podcast.
3788. 1:49:44Drew, do you plan on double masking?
  3789. 1:49:47No, I don't even single mask. I
  3790. 1:49:49[laughter]
  3791. 1:49:49I only wear a mask when I walk into a a
3792. 1:49:52store and on the front of the store it
3793. 1:49:54says you have to have a mask to you have
3794. 1:49:56to wear a mask to enter the store.
  3795. 1:49:57Otherwise, I haven't worn a mask since
  3796. 1:49:59this whole thing began.
  3797. 1:50:00Drew's Drew's Drew's immune to death.
  3798. 1:50:02That's what happens after you've been
  3799. 1:50:03dead for 5
  3800. 1:50:03If I If I were If I were going to die,
  3801. 1:50:05I'd have died already. Let's Let's face
  3802. 1:50:07it.
3803. 1:50:07I just say I know we're not supposed to
3804. 1:50:09speak, but but on the the mask thing I
  3805. 1:50:11discovered this weekend that when you're
3806. 1:50:12wearing a suit jacket, if you wear the
3807. 1:50:14neck gaiter, which is my move, and you
3808. 1:50:16wear it around your neck, it actually
3809. 1:50:17looks like an ascot. Um, so it's kind of
3810. 1:50:19it kind of works like that, so. Yeah,
  3811. 1:50:21yeah. Yeah, yeah.
  3812. 1:50:23No, I I haven't done I haven't done
3813. 1:50:24anything that anything that Anthony
  3814. 1:50:26Fauci says I do the opposite.
  3815. 1:50:28[laughter]
3816. 1:50:28Well, quick note there, by the way. I've
  3817. 1:50:30heard that I've heard that, um, I I did
3818. 1:50:32an Anthony Fauci impersonation the other
3819. 1:50:33day and I heard from a lot of our
3820. 1:50:35listeners that your Anthony Fauci
3821. 1:50:36impersonation might This is the only
3822. 1:50:38nice thing I've ever said about Michael
  3823. 1:50:38Knowles. I don't know what you're
  3824. 1:50:40talking about.
  3825. 1:50:41[laughter]
  3826. 1:50:43In 10 or 15 years, maybe I'll have done
  3827. 1:50:45a good impression.
  3828. 1:50:48[laughter]
  3829. 1:50:48That is good. That's
  3830. 1:50:51Solid stuff.
3831. 1:50:52We know how Ben feels about Fauci and
3832. 1:50:55the vaccine, but Ben, somebody wants to
3833. 1:50:57know if you get the vaccine, is it okay,
3834. 1:50:59I know it's against Jewish law to get a
3835. 1:51:01tattoo, but this Daily Wire subscriber
3836. 1:51:02wants to know, would you get it tattooed
3837. 1:51:04on your arm or somewhere that you got
3838. 1:51:05the vaccine so then you don't have to
3839. 1:51:07wear a mask anymore and you can go to a
  3840. 1:51:08baseball game
3841. 1:51:09I've been hearing you talk about a lot
3842. 1:51:11on your podcast. So, a couple of things.
3843. 1:51:12One, Jews not big into tattoos. Two,
3844. 1:51:15[laughter] Jews super not big into
  3845. 1:51:16governments giving you tattoos.
  3846. 1:51:18Right? So, that's the thing.
  3847. 1:51:20[laughter]
3848. 1:51:20I think it was an optional.
3849. 1:51:22Something about that just sounds
3850. 1:51:24weird to me. Like, I don't mean to put
3851. 1:51:26too fine a point on it, [laughter] but
  3852. 1:51:27it's kind of uncomfortable. I mean,
  3853. 1:51:29you know.
3854. 1:51:30But, um, yeah, I'm I'm not in favor of
  3855. 1:51:33as a general liberty matter. I'm not in
3856. 1:51:35favor of the idea that you should be
3857. 1:51:36barred from all public places unless you
  3858. 1:51:38have a vaccine green card. I do think
3859. 1:51:41that our public officials are doing us
3860. 1:51:43an enormous disservice in continuing to
3861. 1:51:45lie to us and say that you can't go back
3862. 1:51:47to regular life after you've had the
  3863. 1:51:48vaccine. It's literally the only tool
3864. 1:51:50that we know of right now that is going
3865. 1:51:52to give you the kind of safety,
  3866. 1:51:54particularly if you're older, from the
3867. 1:51:55disease that would reduce this to below
3868. 1:51:57the risk of the flu. I mean, if you get
  3869. 1:51:59these vaccines, these vaccines are 99%
  3870. 1:52:01effective in preventing death, 95%
3871. 1:52:03effective in preventing serious illness,
  3872. 1:52:05and 90% effective in preventing
3873. 1:52:06transmission. So, this bizarre idea that
3874. 1:52:09after you get the vaccine you're going
3875. 1:52:10to be still living with the mask and
  3876. 1:52:11socially distancing in 2022 is
3877. 1:52:13anti-science. It is bizarre and it
3878. 1:52:15actually encourages people not to get
  3879. 1:52:16the vaccine cuz if I'm 37
3880. 1:52:18and I'm thinking to myself, okay, well,
3881. 1:52:20there's may there may be like the risk
3882. 1:52:21of getting a little sick from the
  3883. 1:52:22vaccine. I won't feel so good. I don't
3884. 1:52:23know what the long-term effects of the
3885. 1:52:24vaccine are. And listen, if I get COVID
  3886. 1:52:26I'm not going to die anyway. I'm 37.
3887. 1:52:28And then you tell me, okay, but you can
3888. 1:52:30go back to regular life. I might think
3889. 1:52:31to myself, okay, that that seems like
3890. 1:52:33it's worth the risk. But if you keep
  3891. 1:52:34telling 25-year-olds that they can't go
3892. 1:52:36back to regular life after they get the
3893. 1:52:37vaccine, who in their right mind would
3894. 1:52:39get the vaccine? And you have all of
3895. 1:52:40these idiots like Fauci saying, you may
3896. 1:52:43you maybe we'll never go back to our
3897. 1:52:45regular life. Maybe we'll never do it.
3898. 1:52:46Never. And it's like, what are you
  3899. 1:52:48Why? Why? It's
  3900. 1:52:50I mean, it's a scientific miracle. And
  3901. 1:52:52first of all,
  3902. 1:52:53the we've been ripping on big business a
3903. 1:52:54lot. Let me just say that the greatest
3904. 1:52:56thing in the world is Big Pharma.
  3905. 1:52:58Big Pharma, they're unbelievable what
  3906. 1:53:00they do. They generated a cure for a
  3907. 1:53:02disease in less than a year. It's
3908. 1:53:03unbelievable. But But as far as kind of
3909. 1:53:05the general concept of the government
  3910. 1:53:06mandating
3911. 1:53:08vaccine cards to go anywhere, that that
  3912. 1:53:10raises I think serious liberty concerns.
3913. 1:53:12I think frankly people would start
3914. 1:53:13forging them to go wherever they want
  3915. 1:53:15anyway. They're They're They're making
3916. 1:53:17the same mistake now that they made in
  3917. 1:53:18March. Again, it's just being replayed
3918. 1:53:20because in March they told everyone,
  3919. 1:53:22don't wear a mask. It's stupid to wear a
3920. 1:53:23mask. The surgeon general said, people
3921. 1:53:24stop wearing masks. And the reason they
3922. 1:53:26said that is because they don't want us
3923. 1:53:27to run out and they didn't trust us to
3924. 1:53:28not run out and and buy all the medical
3925. 1:53:30masks and then cuz they wanted it to go
3926. 1:53:31to all the Exactly. Not to us plebians.
3927. 1:53:33And so for now now with the vaccine
3928. 1:53:35they're doing the same thing again where
3929. 1:53:37they're saying, oh, no, you know, if you
3930. 1:53:39get the vaccine you still have to wear
3931. 1:53:40the mask uh, because they don't trust
3932. 1:53:44people who aren't vaccinated to not wear
3933. 1:53:46the mask because they think that if they
3934. 1:53:47if they start allowing people to Well,
3935. 1:53:49if you wear the if you if you get the
  3936. 1:53:50vaccine you're not going to wear a mask,
3937. 1:53:52then they think everyone's not going to
  3938. 1:53:52wear it. It's They're not trusting
  3939. 1:53:54people to wear it.
3940. 1:53:54to they seem to think there are three
3941. 1:53:56choices here and there are only two.
3942. 1:53:57Right? They think that there is a third
3943. 1:53:58choice where everybody gets vaccinated
3944. 1:54:00and then doesn't go out and party.
3945. 1:54:01There's only two choices. Everybody gets
3946. 1:54:03vaccinated and parties. And nobody gets
3947. 1:54:05vaccinated and parties. No, right? There
3948. 1:54:07is no third choice where everybody
3949. 1:54:08continues to lock down until the end of
3950. 1:54:10time, especially after being vaccinated.
3951. 1:54:12It's idiotic. Like, this is one thing
3952. 1:54:13that Israel is doing right with the
  3953. 1:54:15vaccine. They've done a lot of things
  3954. 1:54:16right, but one thing they're doing
3955. 1:54:16right. I mean, they have shot and a shot
  3956. 1:54:18night at the bars. They're telling
3957. 1:54:19people like, come and get a shot and
  3958. 1:54:20we'll give you a free shot. They they're
3959. 1:54:22encouraging people to actively do this.
3960. 1:54:24And that is a That is a smart thing to
3961. 1:54:26do. That is a smart thing to do.
3962. 1:54:30All right, um, Matt, people want to know
3963. 1:54:32how is it finally being a Daily Wire HQ
3964. 1:54:35in Nashville and how different is it
3965. 1:54:37doing your show from there?
  3966. 1:54:39Uh, it's pretty nice. I have a I have a
  3967. 1:54:40series of complaints that I could
  3968. 1:54:42[laughter]
3969. 1:54:44Um, much of them having to do with the
  3970. 1:54:45break room. Uh, there's a lot of, you
3971. 1:54:48know, the other day I wanted to grab
3972. 1:54:49some half and half and all they had was
3973. 1:54:50coconut milk and like soy milk and
  3974. 1:54:53almond milk. I've everything except for
  3975. 1:54:55for real milk.
  3976. 1:54:57Um,
  3977. 1:54:57[laughter]
3978. 1:54:58there's also a lot of seaweed related
  3979. 1:55:00snacks that I don't really understand.
3980. 1:55:02Must be an LA thing, but
  3981. 1:55:04[laughter]
3982. 1:55:05I think you should take it up with your
  3983. 1:55:06supervisor.
  3984. 1:55:07I will.
3985. 1:55:08I've already registered with HR, but
  3986. 1:55:10they told me
  3987. 1:55:10[laughter]
  3988. 1:55:11no way, so.
  3989. 1:55:13Said it wasn't a valid complaint.
3990. 1:55:14They're not going to be investigating
3991. 1:55:15that. Too bad, so sad. Michael Knowles,
3992. 1:55:17I heard from a little birdie maybe named
  3993. 1:55:19Dave Rubin that he's slightly bitter
3994. 1:55:21that the night before the Daily Wire
3995. 1:55:23announced their move to Nashville you
3996. 1:55:24claimed that you were staying here in
  3997. 1:55:26California.
  3998. 1:55:27there. I was there.
3999. 1:55:28it? So, there were there were a couple
4000. 1:55:31couple of these nights. Rubin never
4001. 1:55:33forgave you for this. Now, in my
  4002. 1:55:36defense,
4003. 1:55:37nobody tells me nothing around here,
4004. 1:55:38okay? In my In my defense, seriously,
4005. 1:55:40these guys they're not telling me stuff.
4006. 1:55:42To be fair, I didn't want you to come.
  4007. 1:55:43Yeah, this is
  4008. 1:55:44[laughter]
4009. 1:55:44Please, Dave, get Knowles to stay. But
4010. 1:55:47it was funny because I was a di- This
4011. 1:55:49was actually we had our truly our
4012. 1:55:50farewell dinner. It was you, me, Drew,
4013. 1:55:54Adam Carolla, Prager was there, and then
4014. 1:55:56we all you guys I think you guys were
4015. 1:55:57already gone at this point. And then we
  4016. 1:55:59really high-tailed it. But I was at
4017. 1:56:00Dave's place and he said, you know,
  4018. 1:56:02Knowles, you know, Knowles, we're going
4019. 1:56:05to just take back California and we're
  4020. 1:56:07going to you know, [laughter] we're
4021. 1:56:08going to just win back the hearts and
4022. 1:56:10minds and get rid of Newsom. I was like,
4023. 1:56:12yeah, man, hell yeah, and we're going
  4024. 1:56:13[laughter] to yeah, F O A and yeah, all
4025. 1:56:15this stuff. And then like 6 hours later
4026. 1:56:17I was like, yo, bye, Dave.
  4027. 1:56:19[laughter]
4028. 1:56:19See you out there, buddy. So, what
  4029. 1:56:20you're telling me is that you're a liar
  4030. 1:56:22who puts personality mirrors. I cannot
  4031. 1:56:24believe it. I cannot [laughter] believe
4032. 1:56:26it. You ever think about acting? Yeah,
  4033. 1:56:28maybe.
4034. 1:56:30It's uh Is there a part in that Gina
  4035. 1:56:32Carano movie? Dave Rubin ain't staying
  4036. 1:56:33in California. He'll be gone He'll be in
  4037. 1:56:35Florida tomorrow. He's like, you'll
4038. 1:56:36you're going to walk outside and and
4039. 1:56:38we're going to grow old together as Jews
  4040. 1:56:39in Florida.
  4041. 1:56:40[laughter]
4042. 1:56:43Elisha, how many questions have we done?
4043. 1:56:45At least like one and a half.
  4044. 1:56:46We've done more than 10, but I'm just
4045. 1:56:47still like rolling through them because
4046. 1:56:49I you know, you hadn't stopped me.
  4047. 1:56:50Last question.
4048. 1:56:53All right, last question goes to you,
4049. 1:56:54God King, and it kind of piggybacks onto
4050. 1:56:56you asking if Michael if he had
4051. 1:56:58considered getting into acting, which he
  4052. 1:56:59hadn't done in a while unless that's
4053. 1:57:01what he's doing every day on his
  4054. 1:57:02podcast.
  4055. 1:57:03Will any of the
  4056. 1:57:05[gasps]
4057. 1:57:06Will any of the Daily Wire talent be
4058. 1:57:08making cameos in the upcoming Daily Wire
  4059. 1:57:11entertainment scripted shows? Ooh,
4060. 1:57:13wouldn't you like to know, dear
  4061. 1:57:15audience? [laughter]
4062. 1:57:16Uh, all that I'm willing to say on this
4063. 1:57:18topic is yes. Damn it.
  4064. 1:57:20[laughter]
  4065. 1:57:21I think I said too much.
