- 0:00One of the things that we like to do is
- 0:01we like to find people who are just
- 0:03ridiculously good looking. I mean,
- 0:04hello. Hi. [laughter]
- 0:09But we But beyond ridiculously good
- 0:11looking, we love funny. I love somebody
- 0:14who's just funny naturally.
- 0:21So for like the Love Island fandom, I
- 0:24think it happened around season six for
- 0:26us.
- 0:27And I think it was one of those all
- 0:29moments, you know, when we're watching
- 0:31it at home and watching our cast just
- 0:33explode with everybody watching it. What
- 0:35were your thoughts? It was so cool to
- 0:38see cuz I was on season four, as you
- 0:40know, and
- 0:41it was nothing like it is now. So
- 0:43watching the public finally see how
- 0:47amazing this show is and actually like
- 0:49see how fun every person is and I think
- 0:52Love Island is so fun because you get
- 0:53like attached to your favorites and then
- 0:55you get to watch them grow in such an
- 0:56interesting situation. But for me, I
- 1:02have not had the fame that they have now
- 1:04and it's crazy, but it's cool to see the
- 1:06franchise grow and to be a part of
- 1:08something so big now. What was your like
- 1:11experience like being just as a viewer
- 1:14watching it after you've done the show?
- 1:16For you were on season four, so I don't
- 1:19think people knew that you were on
- 1:20season four or some people don't know,
- 1:22but
- 1:22>> So yeah, I mean, I love the show in
- 1:24general and so I was recapping every
- 1:25episode and then people were like, how
- 1:26do you like know so much? And I was
- 1:28like, well, I was on the show. So then
- 1:29it was kind of nice to be on the
- 1:31sidelines kind of giving like little
- 1:32tidbits of insider information, but I'm
- 1:35still mind-blown at how much it's grown.
- 1:37Like billions of views, right?
- 1:39>> Yes. I think for season six we had 1.1
- 1:42billion minutes watched. That's billion
- 1:44minutes. Billion minutes watched.
- 1:47And for us, I think it was just one of
- 1:48those things where the whole casting
- 1:50team, I can only speak for our casting
- 1:52team, is that I think that we were just
- 1:54in awe thinking, oh my goodness, what
- 1:57just happened?
- 1:58>> Yeah, did you use like a different
- 1:59formula for season six? You know, for
- 2:02season six, I think the thing that came
- 2:04about is because usually in casting, we
- 2:07are all different departments. So we
- 2:08have a casting department, you have the
- 2:10production department, you have the
- 2:11exacts.
- 2:12>> Yeah, cuz there's I went through like 10
- 2:13interviews, I think.
- 2:14>> Right. And I think that that for season
- 2:16six was the time that we all came
- 2:18together with the executive producers,
- 2:20you know, and ITV and then casting and
- 2:23we all sat down and we kind of had a
- 2:25kumbaya moment to where we were talking
- 2:28to each other every single week
- 2:30basically and talking what we liked and
- 2:32what we didn't like about some of the
- 2:33upcoming contestants. I think that was
- 2:35the different part for us.
- 2:36>> Interesting. Wait, that's so cool. So
- 2:38that So the exacts had more of a say
- 2:40earlier on, basically.
- 2:42>> Right, they were with us the whole time,
- 2:44I think. So I think that that was a
- 2:46great moment because our team could hear
- 2:48the real life responses of what the
- 2:50exacts think cuz I think most casting
- 2:52projects that we do is like you pitch
- 2:55people and then you'll wait a week and
- 2:57then you'll hear back from our exacts or
- 2:59from the production company or the
- 3:01network and this was real time. And we
- 3:03all like culminated into a group
- 3:06atmosphere to where we're now a family
- 3:08and we're watching that. So I think that
- 3:10was the difference from your season to
- 3:13season six. You're a great example is
- 3:15that people who just
- 3:18are who they are and they have no
- 3:19apologies for what they do or what they
- 3:21say. You know what I mean? You're
- 3:23unfiltered and you're always going to
- 3:24say what's on your mind. You don't care
- 3:26what anybody thinks of what you say. Not
- 3:28in a negative way, but you know?
- 3:30>> I think that's what was so refreshing to
- 3:32me for Love Island was that they
- 3:33actually let me embrace myself and my
- 3:36silliness because I feel like reality TV
- 3:38has such a bad rap of like, oh, you have
- 3:40to be like this trashy person or it's
- 3:42just like, but Love Island, you're
- 3:43genuinely there trying to find a
- 3:45relationship, but also like I grew so
- 3:48much as a person, too. But the fact that
- 3:50they let me like lean into like my humor
- 3:53and my silliness is
- 3:54so nice. You were epic on season four.
- 3:58You're so epic because of things that
- 4:00you would say. Like I always wanted to
- 4:02ask you, you know, it's the way that you
- 4:04thought. Like the birds. Like can you
- 4:06give Can you tell me about the example
- 4:08of the what we're what I'm talking
- 4:09about?
- 4:09>> We literally were sitting on the daybeds
- 4:11one day and I was like, do you think
- 4:12birds are real? Because before I Yeah,
- 4:15TikTok was around then. So I would
- 4:17always see like the birds aren't real
- 4:19things on TikTok and I was like, you
- 4:20know, that's a very good point. I'm
- 4:21going to see what everybody in the villa
- 4:23thinks. And and you were just definite
- 4:25about it though, right? And you also,
- 4:27look at me, I feel like a total fan
- 4:29because now, you know, because although
- 4:31we've we've met each other before, you
- 4:33know, regarding the interviews and
- 4:35everything like that though, but to
- 4:36watch you on camera because I don't
- 4:38think people know this though, but we're
- 4:40we're not in Fiji when the show's
- 4:42airing. You know, we're at home.
- 4:44>> met you in person until after. Right,
- 4:46it's crazy.
- 4:47>> Right, because we're in the back. We're
- 4:48like we're mama bears who are letting
- 4:50our birds go. Like let's just see what
- 4:53happens, you know, on what they're like
- 4:55in the villa. And so you also did would
- 4:57do
- 4:58obstacle courses. Oh, yes. Okay, talk
- 5:01about it. Tell us.
- 5:02>> [laughter]
- 5:02>> I got to do I mean, it was nice because
- 5:05I got to do whatever I wanted. Like
- 5:07that's what people also are like, oh, is
- 5:08reality TV scripted? And it's like, no,
- 5:10you literally can do whatever you want.
- 5:11I was like, we had some downtime and I
- 5:13was like, okay, I'm going to take all
- 5:14the furniture apart. I'm going to make
- 5:15an obstacle course for everyone and
- 5:17we're just going to entertain ourselves
- 5:18cuz you don't have your phones, you
- 5:20can't like talk to anyone, so that's
- 5:21also why everyone gets so close to each
- 5:22other. It's why everything's so dramatic
- 5:25cuz you're in this crazy environment.
- 5:27How do you find people? Is there like a
- 5:28mold you have to fill when you're
- 5:30casting for such a phenomenon like Love
- 5:32Island? Thank you for asking. I think
- 5:34>> [laughter]
- 5:35>> I think Well, one of the things that we
- 5:37like to do is we like to find people who
- 5:38are just ridiculously good looking. I
- 5:40mean, hello.
- 5:41>> [laughter]
- 5:45>> But we But beyond ridiculously good
- 5:47looking, we love funny. I love somebody
- 5:50who's just funny naturally. Like A Maya.
- 5:53A Maya this season was amazing.
- 5:55>> mean to be funny. She just is funny, you
- 5:58know? And and also people who are
- 6:00relatable,
- 6:01bold. You have to be bold for the show.
- 6:04Totally. You know, and you have to have
- 6:05[music] charisma, the it factor, you
- 6:08know? But I think the more the thing
- 6:10[music] is is that you also have flaws
- 6:11and you accept those flaws, you know? I
- 6:13mean, I mean, you for instance, you you
- 6:16were like, hey, listen, this is me,
- 6:18flaws and all. Like
- 6:19>> falling out the whole time.
- 6:21>> [laughter]
- 6:22>> I was like, I'm trying to be cute on TV,
- 6:23but it's not me, so it's not working.
- 6:25Right.
- 6:26>> But I think that's what's so fun me as a
- 6:28viewer, but also being on the show is
- 6:29one, like you genuinely do connect with
- 6:32all the other cast members because
- 6:33everyone truly is like a real person,
- 6:35but also watching as audience, like
- 6:39person is someone that somebody is on
- 6:41the outside world, you know? So I feel
- 6:43like you guys do that so well in picking
- 6:45like people that everyone can relate to.
- 6:48I think it's it's it's just the magic of
- 6:50talking to people, thinking about them
- 6:52like thinking like, hey, can I have a
- 6:54beer with this person? You know, can I
- 6:56sit down and actually hang out with
- 6:57them? And the way that we talk, I mean,
- 6:59I'm like a trucker when it comes to
- 7:01language. I use the F bombs all the
- 7:04time. And it's only just because I like
- 7:06conversation and I think and it's
- 7:08different because I think some casting
- 7:11shows, you know, or like if we're going
- 7:13to do interviews with edits, you know,
- 7:14we have it's like a answer and then it's
- 7:17it's a question, answer, question,
- 7:19answer. With this, it's conversation. So
- 7:21the whole time it's not like an
- 7:22interview. You know, we're not
- 7:23interviewing, we're talking like this.
- 7:25>> one thing that surprised me was going
- 7:26through the interview process was
- 7:28they're like, okay, we don't really have
- 7:29questions for you. We just want you to
- 7:30tell us like your craziest stories. And
- 7:32I was like, oh, so I can just yap like
- 7:34I'm so good at that. Like it's amazing.
- 7:35[laughter] Because you know what? When
- 7:37you're when you're on set, do you have
- 7:39anybody to prompt you?
- 7:40>> No, that's so Wait, now it all makes
- 7:42sense now.
- 7:43>> [laughter]
- 7:44>> But then it also takes a lot of pressure
- 7:46out of the whole interviewing process.
- 7:47But then at the same time I would get so
- 7:48in my head. I was like, do they like me?
- 7:49I was just like talking the whole like,
- 7:51what are they going to get from that?
- 7:52But [laughter] you are so genuine. You
- 7:54were always genuine. You're the same
- 7:55person
- 7:57outside of the villa as you are inside
- 7:59the villa. And that's what makes you
- 8:00real. What that's what makes you so
- 8:02relatable to everybody, you know? And
- 8:04you were funny. And it wasn't something
- 8:06where you were pressing to be funny. You
- 8:08were just funny, you know? And fun. And
- 8:10people like from all flyover states,
- 8:13things like that, they're watching them
- 8:15going like, I so relate to Deb Chubb.
- 8:17And that's the difference. I think that
- 8:19we're That's what we're trying to
- 8:21pinpoint, I think.
- 8:22>> Totally. I mean, especially in a world
- 8:23now where everything is so like such a
- 8:25facade, it's so nice to be able to I
- 8:27think that's why everyone loves
- 8:29watching. You can just sit down and you
- 8:31relate to these people and it's like,
- 8:32oh, they're not these like influencers,
- 8:35they're actual people trying to find
- 8:36love and it's just refreshing to see
- 8:38compared to everything that's on the
- 8:39internet now. It's hard, you know, but
- 8:41just because I think, like you said,
- 8:43this generation right now, I think it's
- 8:46people want to escape. You know, like
- 8:48when you break up with somebody, what do
- 8:49you do? You ghost them, you know? Yeah,
- 8:51yeah. And now you can't run. Not that
- 8:53that we you know, not that you're trying
- 8:55to run outside the villa or anything
- 8:57like that, but you got to face
- 8:59and talk about your emotions.
- 9:00>> You know, the craziest thing is when I
- 9:02went in there, I had no idea I was going
- 9:03to be talking about my emotions so much.
- 9:05I literally was like just thinking, oh,
- 9:07I'm just going to lay by the pool and
- 9:08flirt all day and then I actually
- 9:10genuinely grew so much as a person and
- 9:12like in relationships and it's helped me
- 9:14realize what I want and need in a
- 9:16relationship, which is wild considering
- 9:19it's Love Island. That's the common
- 9:21things that everybody says when they
- 9:23come out of the villa. Like this was a
- 9:24learning experience for me. And what
- 9:26Where do you think that you were What
- 9:28was the part in season four that you
- 9:29were like
- 9:30boom?
- 9:31>> Honestly, it was so early on because a
- 9:33bombshell came in night one and the guy
- 9:35that I was with went on a date with the
- 9:36bombshell. So then I had to be like, oh
- 9:38my gosh, I have to tell a man how I
- 9:39feel. And so I had to be like, hey, I
- 9:41like you. And so being vulnerable, like
- 9:44kind of not being forced to be
- 9:46vulnerable, but like you're in a
- 9:47situation where oh, I either could go
- 9:49home or I could step outside my comfort
- 9:51zone. And so that kind of started the
- 9:53snowball effect of working on being
- 9:55vulnerable and like expressing how I
- 9:58feel to men, which uh
- 10:00>> [laughter]
- 10:01>> Do you think after you did the show, do
- 10:04you think that that people came to you
- 10:06or messaged you asking you, like, I felt
- 10:08that. I was I you were in my position,
- 10:11or I felt like I was Deb in my world, or
- 10:13anything like that?
- 10:14>> it was really cool to like feel seen,
- 10:17and to be kind of like
- 10:20not like not like for like not hope, but
- 10:22like if I can do it, like you can do it.
- 10:25Like I can like face my fears and like
- 10:27tell somebody how I feel, and do
- 10:29something outside of my comfort zone,
- 10:30whether that be go on Love Island, or
- 10:32like stand up for myself. I would just
- 10:34want to know from your side, how was
- 10:36your audition experience? Do you think
- 10:38like tell me about the interview. Who
- 10:39did you interview with? Was it Sam?
- 10:42>> Okay, yes. Love Sam. So, I actually, I'm
- 10:45sure you know this, I applied for season
- 10:473. I remember I saw an application, I
- 10:49was just like in my bed board one day,
- 10:51and I was like, oh, didn't think
- 10:52anything would ever come from it cuz I'm
- 10:53just a girl. And then
- 10:56did like the interview with you guys.
- 10:58There's like four interviews, right?
- 11:00Pretty much. And then yeah, it it's
- 11:02always changes every season, you know.
- 11:03>> Yeah, and then you like talk to some
- 11:05execs, and then they were like, "Hey,
- 11:07it's not going to be a good fit." And I
- 11:09was like, "Okay, cool." Like moved on
- 11:10with my life, and then I was talking to
- 11:11this guy the next summer, and he ghosted
- 11:14me, and I was like, "You know what would
- 11:15be some really good payback is if I were
- 11:17to end up on Love Island." So, then I
- 11:18hit you guys up again, did all of the
- 11:20interviews again, and I also think it
- 11:22was nice that I kind of had like a
- 11:24a vibe of how it was going to be. And
- 11:27then when
- 11:28my season was in Santa Barbara, so then
- 11:30when we actually get to Santa Barbara is
- 11:31when we met the execs for the first time
- 11:33in person, and you also do your like
- 11:35in-person interview where you're kind of
- 11:36like dancing with the sign and stuff.
- 11:38So, it was a really fun interview
- 11:40process. It was longer than I would
- 11:42expect, but and you feel like you're
- 11:44kind of like repeating the same things,
- 11:46but I think maybe it's cuz you're
- 11:47talking to different people. That's
- 11:49right. I think that it's just because we
- 11:50always have people, you know, that I
- 11:52guess that you're interacting with, you
- 11:54know, just to see how you are with
- 11:56everybody, you know, just to let your
- 11:57guards down because a lot of times I
- 11:58think that people come in, and they
- 12:00think this is going to be a job
- 12:01interview, you know, I'm going to
- 12:03I'm going to be perfect for them, or I'm
- 12:05going to be, you know, I'm going to be
- 12:07the villain. And there's no such thing.
- 12:09Like just be yourself because you're
- 12:11have cameras on you 24/7, so you can't
- 12:13keep up that facade 24/7, you know, for
- 12:17almost 6 weeks, right?
- 12:18>> That's what's like bothers me when
- 12:20people say they had a bad edit cuz I'm
- 12:21like, you didn't like no, maybe you just
- 12:24suck. Sorry.
- 12:26Is there a part in the casting process
- 12:28where you're like, "Oh my gosh, this
- 12:29person is perfect. Like this is a
- 12:31star."? All the time. And it could be
- 12:33happen right away. I mean, I we do these
- 12:37Okay, so
- 12:38just for season 8, I'm looking at pop-up
- 12:40material, which are pop-up villa, you
- 12:42know, where we have where NBC Peacock
- 12:46actually does these little pop-up
- 12:47events. And it's like where people have
- 12:4810 seconds to talk. I'm watching all the
- 12:50videos because I don't want to let our
- 12:51team watch it. I actually watch it
- 12:53myself.
- 12:56>> like the head honcho, you physically
- 12:58watch every single one?
- 12:59>> Every single one of them. Only because I
- 13:00think you stood in line to come and say
- 13:03hi to us, and so I feel like it's only
- 13:05appropriate for me to watch every single
- 13:07video, and actually look at people, you
- 13:09know, and just say, "Okay, guess what?
- 13:11Yeah, thank you so much for standing in
- 13:12line, and we really appreciate it, and
- 13:14I'm going to watch all your videos." And
- 13:16people pop. And the ones who pop are the
- 13:19ones who just
- 13:21they don't have a filter. They don't
- 13:22care. They were like, "Listen, I had a
- 13:25really date the other night, you
- 13:26know?" And I I I really hate this guy,
- 13:29and I'm here for this, and just like how
- 13:30you just said about the guy who dumped
- 13:32you. Yeah. And uh when people give that
- 13:36energy, it's magic. You know, I think it
- 13:38is. And I you know, but we all have
- 13:40different opinions on it, everybody. I
- 13:41think that it's a conglomerate of what
- 13:44the execs think, what our producers
- 13:46think, you know, what the network
- 13:47thinks, and what we as a casting team
- 13:49think, you know, so just so we won't
- 13:51miss anybody, we always show them more
- 13:55people just to keep our bench warm, I
- 13:56guess you could say. That's so nice to
- 13:58hear cuz I feel like a lot of people
- 14:00have been like, "Oh, I'm not going to
- 14:01even apply because I know they're not
- 14:02going to watch it. They probably get so
- 14:03many applications."
- 14:05>> We watch it. And we we actually had
- 14:07thousands of applications that because
- 14:08our our applications are always open
- 14:1124/7. So, you could apply like in July
- 14:13or August or whenever, even when we're
- 14:15not casting. And then what happens is
- 14:17when our team comes on board, the first
- 14:18thing that we do is we look through
- 14:20every single application, but we do it
- 14:23from flyover states, and then hit the
- 14:25big cities. Only just to make sure that
- 14:27we cover everybody. That's how we found
- 14:28Karsten. Remember Burgie?
- 14:30>> Oh, Burgie, oh my gosh, wait. I love
- 14:33that.
- 14:34>> Burgie came from an application, and he
- 14:36was a Dairy Queen manager, you know, or
- 14:38Oh my gosh. Yeah, and it he was a Dairy
- 14:40Queen manager, and it was one of those
- 14:42things where you saw him, and you're
- 14:42like, "There's something about him." And
- 14:44I called him myself, and I said, "Hey,
- 14:47uh call me back. This is, you know, I'm
- 14:49the head of casting for Love Island.
- 14:50Would love to talk to you. Let's chat."
- 14:52And he called me, and he's like, "Who
- 14:54are you? What is this all about?"
- 14:56>> [laughter]
- 14:57>> Wait, that's so cute that you guys give
- 14:59like the small towns a chance, too. Like
- 15:01I didn't realize that. That's so nice.
- 15:03>> Just because you never know where the
- 15:05magic happens, you know, or where the
- 15:06magic is, or where the people are to
- 15:09find those gems and those people because
- 15:11it's it's you're looking for
- 15:13relatability. So, you're wanting the
- 15:14person who came from the small town. I
- 15:17mean, I came from a town of like
- 15:19400 people, you know, from a small town
- 15:22in Texas. So, it's like you you want to
- 15:24find those types of people because
- 15:26people can relate to those who are in
- 15:28small towns, you know? So, you can tell
- 15:29like right away when like if you were to
- 15:33see like
- 15:34did you see Aimee-Leigh's tape, and you
- 15:37were like, "She's going to win."? Yes. I
- 15:39didn't think Well, let me put it this
- 15:40way. I didn't think I didn't know she
- 15:41was going to win or not, but I knew that
- 15:43she'd be great on television. I think
- 15:44the whole team did. I think we were all
- 15:47like, "Wow, there's something about
- 15:48her." because she didn't care about what
- 15:51anybody thought. Her dad came into the
- 15:53picture, you know, on her interview.
- 15:55Yeah, she was like, "Hey, hi, this is my
- 15:57dad." And and you're thinking in your
- 15:59head like, "Wow, she just has so many
- 16:01stories, the way she is with herself."
- 16:03And she again unapologetic for who she
- 16:05was. And that's I think it's the biggest
- 16:07key. Yeah. That's like when people reach
- 16:09out to me and ask any advice for their
- 16:11applications, I say you just have to be
- 16:12yourself, which is so cliché, but have
- 16:15tons of stories to make yourself stand
- 16:17out a little bit, but at the same time
- 16:19like be a real person. Right. It's so it
- 16:21sounds so cheesy to say it. Be
- 16:24authentic. Be your authentic. So, what
- 16:25does that mean, you know? But it's
- 16:28that's what I think in the application
- 16:29because the first application is really
- 16:31long. It's like 100 questions, right?
- 16:32>> Right. And so, I think
- 16:34in my mind, tell me if this is wrong,
- 16:37when I was filling out those questions,
- 16:38I tried to make them very conversational
- 16:39to be like, "Oh my god, you'll never
- 16:40believe this story." And I genuinely
- 16:42think that is what helped me because it
- 16:45was not like boring. Right. And you
- 16:48weren't trying to impress us. I think
- 16:50that's the thing. Everybody thinks you
- 16:51have to impress I'm going to be like
- 16:53again, like I'm going to be the villain.
- 16:55You know, I want to come in there, and
- 16:56I'm going to get you guys a whole bunch
- 16:57of viewers.
- 16:58>> [laughter]
- 16:59>> So, there's no like science to any of
- 17:01it.
- 17:01>> There isn't any science. There isn't any
- 17:03science. It's because there's so many
- 17:05types of people that go on the show. You
- 17:06know, like on your season, like, you
- 17:09know, you were basically the funny one
- 17:11who was always, you know, a great time.
- 17:14And then you and Maddie were together,
- 17:16besties, you know, on the show.
- 17:18>> was Sydney who was crying, and then like
- 17:20our fashion diva Courtney. Yeah, we had
- 17:22such a fun mix of people. So, being in
- 17:24there was the craziest thing. I think
- 17:26day one is the most intimidating cuz you
- 17:28walk in, and I was expecting somebody to
- 17:30be like, "Okay, go do this. Go stand
- 17:33here." And you literally like me and
- 17:35Serenity walked in, and somebody was
- 17:37like, "Go open the champagne." And we're
- 17:39like, "Oh, okay." But like after that,
- 17:42you forget everything like that's going
- 17:45on around you. I forgot about the
- 17:46cameras. I forgot that I was being
- 17:48recorded, and I just genuinely was
- 17:50finding connections with guys, and
- 17:52forming friendships, and literally
- 17:55nothing was forced other than them us
- 17:57forcing us to wake up.
- 17:58>> [laughter]
- 18:00>> That was the worst. Honestly, the worst
- 18:01was when they opened the blinds. They're
- 18:03like, "Good morning." It's like your dad
- 18:04waking you up in elementary school.
- 18:06>> Did you know what time it was? No. Don't
- 18:08know time it is. I just we started to
- 18:10figure out the time. We would like
- 18:11listen to the birds. We're like, "Oh,
- 18:12it's morning." Or if it was a really
- 18:13late night, we'd be like, "Oh, the sun's
- 18:14going to come out soon." Oh my gosh.
- 18:17>> But no, it was it's so crazy cuz even
- 18:19it's hard to explain to people cuz
- 18:20they're like, "Oh, reality show has to
- 18:21be scripted. It's like And like yeah,
- 18:24I'm sure there's something on going on
- 18:25in the background. They have to like hit
- 18:27these things, but really as a person, it
- 18:29never felt anything being like, "You
- 18:31have to do this. You have to talk to
- 18:32this person." It was so just like live
- 18:35your life. Have fun.
- 18:37That's amazing. I think that for us
- 18:39watching you guys, I think it's it's so
- 18:41we have like anxiety 24/7 when we're
- 18:44watching the show because we're watching
- 18:46it real time. [music] I mean, the show
- 18:47is almost taped real time, and we're
- 18:49watching you grow into who you you are
- 18:53on the show. Yeah. That sounds weird to
- 18:56say that you're growing into because
- 18:58you are you You know us better than the
- 18:59public, so you're kind of like being
- 19:01like, "Oh, come on. Like get out of your
- 19:02shell." Cuz like I remember when
- 19:05Beldasha was on, and everybody's like,
- 19:07"Oh, she's talking so weird." And her
- 19:08mom was like, "No, she's nervous." So,
- 19:10it's like you guys are probably like,
- 19:11"No, there's so much more. Like come on.
- 19:12Like pick it up." Always. Always. And I
- 19:14think that our stakes are so high
- 19:16watching you guys all, and I think that
- 19:19the magic that the executive producers
- 19:21do, and the production team, I mean, I
- 19:24don't realize how crazy it is as of a
- 19:26turnover because it's like what, 48
- 19:29hours, and then it's on the next day.
- 19:30So, it's almost live. Yeah. Uh I don't
- 19:33know how they do it.
- 19:34>> no idea. And the post, I have no idea
- 19:36how they are so magical in what they do.
- 19:39And our production staff, I don't know
- 19:40how they turn that over, but for us,
- 19:43it's like every single day we're glued
- 19:44to the TV more more than most people are
- 19:47because we're sitting there rooting for
- 19:48you guys going, "Oh, please, do good.
- 19:50You got this." And and it hurts us when
- 19:52you have like a heartbreak. Yeah.
- 19:54>> like
- 19:55I mean, even on games, like
- 19:58Oh. On games.
- 20:01Uh You know what I'm going to say,
- 20:02right? About Courtney and when she
- 20:05called you out and you guys were close,
- 20:07close friends.
- 20:08>> Yeah. And that killed us, I think.
- 20:11>> that was Yeah, that was wild. But even
- 20:13I'm sure when you have like a favorite
- 20:15or somebody that you really connected
- 20:17with gets dumped, like what is that
- 20:18like? That's
- 20:19so in hurts us. We're like we're It's
- 20:21seriously, we feel like we're like the
- 20:23moms, you know? And we're sending our
- 20:25kid off to preschool. We're watching
- 20:26>> the
- 20:27the [laughter] villa like at the end of
- 20:28the tunnel with orange slices and
- 20:29waters. Like the team moms. It's like
- 20:31crazy. You know what's so weird is on
- 20:34For season six, I think everybody shows
- 20:37up, you know, as they are. Mhm. But
- 20:39>> [music]
- 20:40>> Serena Page Mhm. was one of my surprise
- 20:43people or one of our surprise people, I
- 20:45should say, because I speak for the
- 20:46casting team though. But she was so
- 20:48bubbly and she was so energetic which
- 20:50she was on our interviews and was like
- 20:52life of the party. And when Cordell
- 20:55walked in after Casa Amor, the
- 20:57recoupling, with Daya, [music]
- 20:59you know?
- 21:00>> Yeah. And she just turned into a
- 21:02lioness. And for me, I'm watching I
- 21:05still have chills. I have chills right
- 21:06now going what she went through and how
- 21:10she navigated her emotions. We were all
- 21:13as women going, "Yes!" Yes. Go, girl.
- 21:16It's like I feel your pain cuz that has
- 21:18happened to all of us, you know?
- 21:20Totally. Same with the audience. I think
- 21:21that's why everybody fell in love with
- 21:22her cuz she was speaking for all of us.
- 21:24Cuz we've all been over by stupid
- 21:27men.
- 21:28>> [laughter]
- 21:29>> But it was refreshing to see that. But
- 21:30it like you said, it's probably true cuz
- 21:32in the interviews, you're not really
- 21:33talking about like You can't really tell
- 21:35how somebody's going to stand up for
- 21:36themselves.
- 21:37>> No. Like they can give you stories or
- 21:38situations, but
- 21:40>> [music]
- 21:40>> watching That's so cool. Yeah. Because
- 21:42we cast so many people, you know, we
- 21:45cast I think that we look at around
- 21:49700-plus people. Woah. And more,
- 21:52actually, you know, with our
- 21:53applications and everything like that.
- 21:55But as far as regretting somebody
- 21:59to be on the show
- 22:00you know, it's not a regret. It's
- 22:02thinking, "Why didn't you keep going?"
- 22:04You know what I mean? I don't think that
- 22:06I ever have a regret for somebody to be
- 22:08on the show, but I do have that
- 22:11instinct of like, "Hey, listen. Why
- 22:13didn't you go where you were supposed to
- 22:15go?" Or Or why weren't you yourself?
- 22:18Yeah.
- 22:18>> Does that make sense? Yeah. I Yeah, that
- 22:20does make sense. Cuz do you Have you
- 22:22seen people come on and they weren't how
- 22:24they were in their interviews?
- 22:25>> Right. Yes. You've seen that?
- 22:26>> Yeah, sometimes. Wow.
- 22:28>> And and and and it Right, our casting
- 22:30company We've been doing this for 20
- 22:31years, though, but it's it's sometimes
- 22:34people cease to amaze us Mhm. or cease
- 22:36cease to disappoint us. Mhm. But
- 22:39I mean, we can't control that, you know?
- 22:41But there has been people who I was
- 22:43thinking, "Oh, you know, you were so
- 22:46different, you know, with us on
- 22:49interviews, you know?" So, I love Love
- 22:51Island that it's live because the public
- 22:53can see through that. Like it is so easy
- 22:55to tell when somebody's not being
- 22:56authentically themselves. [music]
- 22:58So, that's one of the like my favorite
- 23:00parts of Love Island cuz then the
- 23:01public's like, "What is like something's
- 23:02off."
- 23:03>> They're savvy. Yeah.
- 23:05>> Our audience is savvy and I think that
- 23:07they're vocal and we learn every time.
- 23:09But sometimes you can't see that
- 23:11sometimes. You know, where you're
- 23:12thinking like we we're spending hour
- 23:14with you.
- 23:15You know, we spend an hour and then we
- 23:17spend more time with you Cuz you don't
- 23:19you still don't meet them in person,
- 23:20right? No. Sometimes I do. Sometimes I
- 23:23do.
- 23:23>> [music]
- 23:23>> You know, and then obviously, if we
- 23:25scout them on the streets or something
- 23:27like that, obviously though, we do meet
- 23:29them. But I think that I mean, when
- 23:33you're in casting for so long you think
- 23:36that you know somebody though. But
- 23:37there's been people who are couples and
- 23:39they didn't even know that their husband
- 23:40or their wife was going to be, you know,
- 23:42turn out to be who they were, you know?
- 23:44>> True. So, it happens with us sometimes.
- 23:48>> bamboozled.
- 23:48>> Bamboozled.
- 23:49>> [laughter]
- 23:51>> After season four, I mean, how do you
- 23:53think that it has changed you because
- 23:55you were on Love Island, you know? Like
- 23:57Like we always want to know. Um It
- 23:59Honestly, it made me more confident in
- 24:01myself. I think seeing that the public
- 24:03accepted me at my absolute craziest,
- 24:06worst, lowest points, but also my
- 24:08highest points made me really be like,
- 24:10"Oh, wait. I think I just need to like
- 24:13continue to be myself as weird and
- 24:17awkward as that is. But it just It made
- 24:19me more confident in myself. And then it
- 24:20also made me want to pursue the things
- 24:23that I want to actually do more. So, it
- 24:25was amazing to come out and be able to
- 24:27do social media full-time. Now, I'm
- 24:29nowhere near where they are now, but to
- 24:31be able to like make a living off of
- 24:32that so I can have the freedom to pursue
- 24:34things that I've actually always wanted
- 24:35to do like acting and improv and just
- 24:37being more creative has been the most
- 24:40amazing thing to come out of it.
- 24:43So, do you think that Love Island was
- 24:45um positive
- 24:47thing in your life?
- 24:49I think I think it was a positive thing.
- 24:51Um maybe looking for a husband might be
- 24:53a little different, but
- 24:55>> [laughter]
- 24:55>> career-wise, it's been really positive.
- 24:57Do you still talk to Jesse? I've not
- 24:59spoken to him since November 2022.
- 25:02Really?
- 25:03I do feel like I have a dream job and I
- 25:05think
- 25:07It's like our whole team, I think we
- 25:09live for this. Meaning that we live for
- 25:11finding people who can make an impact in
- 25:14people's lives or that we can make an
- 25:16impact in their lives, hopefully. You
- 25:18know, hopefully it's a positive
- 25:20experience. But and then also find love
- 25:22like our Hannah and Marco. Yeah. Like
- 25:25the fact that they're engaged. I'm like,
- 25:27"Hello!" I know. It works.
- 25:29>> Where's our grandbabies? It works. You
- 25:31do have the coolest job ever. I thank my
- 25:33lucky stars every single day. I mean,
- 25:35I've been everything from a
- 25:37>> [laughter]
- 25:38>> you know, from a front desk agent at a
- 25:40hotel to
- 25:43uh to a publicist to everything. And
- 25:44it's one of those things where this is a
- 25:46culmination of every factor and I don't
- 25:48think I ever want to be anywhere else.
- 25:50Every day is different. Yeah. You know,
- 25:51and every person's different. And I
- 25:53mean, I was just talking to somebody
- 25:54before I came up here telling him about
- 25:56how to apply for the show. Oh.
- 25:58>> And it's a whole It's coming back, you
- 26:00know, season eight. Wee!
- 26:02>> [laughter]
- 26:03>> We have such a long casting period. I
- 26:05think we have It's like 6 to 8 months
- 26:08that we find you, you know, people like
- 26:10you. During that time, I mean, you might
- 26:12fall out. You might be getting you know,
- 26:15become a partner in love, you know? You
- 26:18might get a job that you can't do the
- 26:19show. And after the
- 26:226 to 8 months, you know, while it's
- 26:25going, people don't realize that we're
- 26:27still casting while the show's on. So,
- 26:30when when the show comes out
- 26:31>> never ends.
- 26:33Yeah, it basically You're always looking
- 26:35for people?
- 26:36>> Always looking for people.
- 26:36>> Wow. Yeah, like I mean, right when the
- 26:39intro start and day one starts, we're
- 26:41still looking for people just to have a
- 26:43bench of people to make the show fresh.
- 26:46Right.
- 26:46>> You know, in case that somebody might
- 26:47fall out at the last minute, you know,
- 26:49that might come in into Casa Amor. Yeah.
- 26:51Or people who are the last bombshells,
- 26:53you know? So, we're still casting while
- 26:54the show is airing. If you like were to
- 26:56go to lunch right now and see a hot
- 26:58person, would you tell them to apply?
- 27:00>> 100%. And And also, our team, even
- 27:03though that they might be on other
- 27:04shows, you know, because we we we work
- 27:07on other shows when we're not working on
- 27:08Love Island, they're always looking. And
- 27:11then our executive producers, they were
- 27:12like, "Hey, you know, I might have seen
- 27:14this person, you know, what do you think
- 27:15of these people?" Yeah, so we're always
- 27:17looking. I actually ran
- 27:19in my neighborhood. My boyfriend and I
- 27:22were walking and this guy was running
- 27:23and he looked like this beautiful
- 27:25gazelle. That's the only way I could
- 27:26describe him. He was like a gazelle
- 27:27running. And I'm like, "Who is this
- 27:29leaping, beautiful human?" And I told my
- 27:32boyfriend at the time I mean, we're
- 27:34really old. So, I was like, "Listen,
- 27:35we're walking." And I was like, "Just
- 27:38hold on. I'm going to run after this
- 27:39guy."
- 27:40I literally ran and he's like, "Who is
- 27:43this strange woman?"
- 27:44Filipino woman running after me. And I'm
- 27:46like, "Hi, hi. Would you ever do the
- 27:48show?" And So, yeah.
- 27:49Always casting. And even like Do you
- 27:52guys send each other TikToks, too?
- 27:53Always. Like the reach is just
- 27:55everywhere. It's crazy. I'm We're We're
- 27:58We We I mean, I think that we're just in
- 27:59shock and awe right now. Just how and
- 28:02grateful we are that it's it's such a
- 28:05phenomenon,
- 28:05>> [music]
- 28:06>> you know? Do you think there was a
- 28:07difference in the cast in season six and
- 28:09seven that made people kind of fall in
- 28:11love with season six a little bit more
- 28:13than season seven? That's a great
- 28:14question. I do. I think that
- 28:19I You know You know what? I think that
- 28:20every season's different.
- 28:22>> Great. I can't really say that one's
- 28:23better than the other. Like the magic.
- 28:25>> Yeah. All the ensembles for each season
- 28:27like your season, season four, season
- 28:29three, season two, season five and six.
- 28:32They're Everybody Everything is
- 28:34different though. But the ones who watch
- 28:36the show and had remembered from season
- 28:38one, you know, we we didn't even cast
- 28:40season one or two. We came in on season
- 28:42three though. And
- 28:44uh
- 28:44>> [music]
- 28:44>> but every season, the the ensemble is
- 28:48just different and unique in its own
- 28:50way. So, I can't really say that I liked
- 28:53season seven more than I
- 28:55less than I liked season six. I think
- 28:56it's different.
- 28:57>> Is there like It's like a puzzle you
- 28:58have to put together. Like you have to
- 29:00Do you do any of the like, "Oh, this
- 29:02person would be good with this guy or
- 29:03this girl?" Do you Do any of those
- 29:05mix-and-matches or is that exact?
- 29:07>> I think Well, it's a culmination of
- 29:08everybody though. But at the end of the
- 29:10day, it is actually the exacts and the
- 29:12producers of the network and they get
- 29:15together and they actually find out
- 29:17who's going to be the OGs, who's going
- 29:20to be, you know, Casa, who's going to be
- 29:23the bombshells. We don't even know. So,
- 29:25this is a great little tea for you. I
- 29:27think that when you when we have the
- 29:30cast reveal, the day of the cast reveal,
- 29:32we don't even know who the OGs are going
- 29:35to be.
- 29:35>> No way.
- 29:36>> zero idea. Only because it's just kept
- 29:38under wraps so tight that I mean,
- 29:40because we're back here in the States
- 29:42while they're, you know, filming that uh
- 29:44they keep it really, really, really
- 29:45tight. So, it's actually just as
- 29:47exciting it for us as it is for
- 29:50everybody at home watching cuz we're
- 29:52we're like on pins and needles wanting
- 29:54to know who became the OGs. Does the
- 29:56timeline of when you apply and have your
- 29:58interviews affect when you go in the
- 30:00show?
- 30:01>> That's a great question, too.
- 30:03>> [laughter]
- 30:03>> Who are you?
- 30:05Uh no, it doesn't. It really doesn't
- 30:08because you could come in in October,
- 30:10you could be in one of our first
- 30:12pitches, or you could be at the final.
- 30:14How did you know?
- 30:15>> It doesn't It doesn't matter where you
- 30:16come in just as long as you're still
- 30:18stay single and you know and we'll call
- 30:21you and sometimes it takes us like a
- 30:23couple of months and say, "Hey, remember
- 30:25us?"
- 30:25Wow, interesting. So, yeah, we're always
- 30:29continuously casting and we might pull
- 30:31up people from past seasons, too, that
- 30:33might have auditioned for the show.
- 30:35That's very rare though, [music] but
- 30:36mainly it's always like new people,
- 30:38people who apply, people who come to the
- 30:40pop-ups, or people that we scout and
- 30:42find. Sometimes we even go to like labor
- 30:45unions, we go to we find people at
- 30:48schools, everything, you know, just to
- 30:51find a great roundabout cast. I'm so
- 30:53happy I went on the show. It honestly
- 30:55has made me who I am today and it has
- 30:58made me somebody that I'm so proud to be
- 31:00and it was the best experience of my
- 31:02life.
- 31:03Thank you.
- 31:05>> [laughter]
- 31:05>> I love you.
- 31:06>> you. I love you.
- 31:08Oh my god.
- 31:11>> [music]
