- 0:25me as we embark on a journey [music] to
- 0:27find God in the most unlikely, absurd,
- 0:29and random things from Kasa to Yara and
- 0:32even FIFA. So, buckle up, put on your
- 0:35thinking cap, and let's find God in the
- 0:38detail.
- 0:41[music]
- 0:47Hi guys. So, as we start this episode, I
- 0:50have a question. What did you eat last
- 0:52night? You watching this? You ate
- 0:55indomi. You ate kink. You ate fufu. You
- 0:58ate something very heavy before you
- 1:00slept. Yes, I'm judging you.
- 1:03You didn't open this podcast to be
- 1:05judged, but you are [music] being
- 1:06judged. Sorry. Welcome to another
- 1:09episode of the God in the details
- 1:10podcast. And as you can already see, we
- 1:13are about and all. If this is the first
- 1:15time you're listening to this, yes, this
- 1:18podcast, that's what it's about. It's
- 1:19about finding God in a very random
- 1:21things. And this one is not as random,
- 1:24but it's very very very very
- 1:27interesting. So,
- 1:30you've heard my voice. Uh, you don't
- 1:32want to hear it again. Let me move to
- 1:34someone's voice that you all want to
- 1:36hear. Ladies and gentlemen, the person
- 1:40who introduce herself is who is seated
- 1:42here.
- 1:42>> Oh my god. [laughter]
- 1:45Hi everyone. So, should I look here? Oh
- 1:47my god. messing it up.
- 1:48>> It's for you.
- 1:49>> Okay. So, my name is Dana Madina. I am a
- 1:52registered dietician. To be honest, this
- 1:55question, who am I? I still don't know
- 1:57the answer to it yet. But we are still
- 1:59learning. We are still getting to know
- 2:01[music] ourselves day in day out. God is
- 2:04teaching us more about ourselves. So, my
- 2:06name is Anama. I you may know me as diet
- 2:09with D online. [music]
- 2:10I work I actually do a 9 to5 but after
- 2:14my 9 to5 I have a 5 to9 which is content
- 2:18creation. I try to create content um on
- 2:21diet on nutrition to help people
- 2:23understand it better because there's so
- 2:25much that we don't know. And I'm a
- 2:28Christian. I really really believe in
- 2:31God. I'm a Jesus baby and [music] I am
- 2:35blessed. I'm happy that I have a lot of
- 2:37good people around me. my family, God,
- 2:40my pastor, Pastor Elliot. Thank you so
- 2:42much for everything. Um, my kingdom
- 2:45ambassador's family.
- 2:49>> Yeah. My church, Economy Church, and the
- 2:52pastors, everyone there. Thank you so
- 2:54much. So, that is me. I'm still learning
- 2:56about myself. So,
- 2:57>> amazing. Amazing. Okay. So,
- 3:01again, we'll just go straight into it.
- 3:03Why did you become a dietician? I think
- 3:05there are a lot of it's not one of the
- 3:09very popular um
- 3:12professions you hear for young people.
- 3:14When you hear dietician when I heard
- 3:16dietician I thought it was going to be a
- 3:18very old person. So why did you go into
- 3:21that?
- 3:22>> Okay. So I actually wanted to study
- 3:24medicine.
- 3:25>> Oo
- 3:25>> but I'm far.
- 3:28Yeah. I was I think the point I didn't
- 3:30reach the you know there's a a cut off
- 3:33>> point that you need to get into it I
- 3:35didn't get there so
- 3:36>> I just had to study the dietetics by
- 3:39default initially I was pissed like ah
- 3:42why you know I'm not enjoying this thing
- 3:44when I'm done I'll go and do but
- 3:47now I'm done and I realized that look I
- 3:49enjoy this thing so
- 3:51>> I think I feel like
- 3:52>> it in itself is already like a
- 3:54>> it's I feel like that's God's purpose
- 3:55because [music] if I was a doctor I
- 3:57don't think I'll be given time for all
- 3:58these things, I'll be very tired. So, I
- 4:03think it's God's purpose and I'm
- 4:05grateful to God.
- 4:06>> So, basically, you being a dietician is
- 4:09God's purpose. Yes.
- 4:10>> And even the way he brought you to that
- 4:13>> is through disappointment.
- 4:17>> Exactly.
- 4:17>> But he was able to turn that for your
- 4:19good.
- 4:19>> Yeah.
- 4:20>> That's amazing. That's amazing. So
- 4:22getting ready for this episode, I
- 4:24realized that the first ever temptation
- 4:27in the world [laughter]
- 4:29>> was about food.
- 4:30>> Yes.
- 4:32>> From yours from from your from your
- 4:36view.
- 4:36>> Mhm.
- 4:37>> How essential is food [music] in the
- 4:40Bible?
- 4:42>> Charie, there's a lot of things. Oh,
- 4:44there's a lot. There's [music] I don't
- 4:46even know where to start from. But as
- 4:48she said, the first sin wasn't it wasn't
- 4:51war. It wasn't murder. Murder came. I
- 4:54mean, Kane did something there, but
- 4:56>> the first one was food. A meal gone
- 4:58wrong. That was the apple.
- 5:00>> I said apple. Sorry. They said it's not
- 5:02apple.
- 5:02>> Yeah, they said it's not apple.
- 5:03>> So,
- 5:04>> you know, you know, you know when when
- 5:05when we having one of these episodes, I
- 5:06said it might be have even been go or
- 5:08something.
- 5:08>> Yeah, it could be anything. I don't
- 5:10know.
- 5:11>> It's be a fruit or a vegetable.
- 5:14>> Sorry guys.
- 5:15>> It's a legume.
- 5:17So that one is okay.
- 5:19>> Nah, it's a legume.
- 5:20>> Okay. What kind of why [laughter] why
- 5:22did you put me on the spot like that? So
- 5:25um yes, the the fruits, you know, that's
- 5:29what brought man down. And so that was
- 5:31the first thing. [music] And God started
- 5:33creation with food. You know, he created
- 5:36plants for us to consume, for man to
- 5:38consume. And then the last I think
- 5:40revelation the last thing was I think
- 5:42there was a tree or there was a feast at
- 5:44the end. If you read Revelation, there
- 5:47was a feast at the end. So everything,
- 5:48you know, at every point there was food.
- 5:50And whenever God wants to make an
- 5:52announcement, whenever Jesus wants to
- 5:54make an announcement, he [music] has
- 5:55this feast that he he does with his
- 5:59disciples. So I feel like food is very
- 6:01important. Jesus was almost tempted with
- 6:05food. He just stood his ground. But food
- 6:08is it's like every point in the Bible
- 6:10there's food. Even when Jesus wanted to
- 6:12reference himself, he didn't say I am
- 6:14the I am the I want to find a word,
- 6:18>> you know, I'm the I'm the
- 6:21hope of
- 6:22>> chal
- 6:23>> glory.
- 6:23>> Yeah. He was like I'm the bread of life.
- 6:26Why that?
- 6:27>> It shows how food is very important
- 6:29[music]
- 6:30to God to me. I'm happy. I'm happy that
- 6:32I'm doing this.
- 6:33>> Okay. So So I I'll ask a very huge
- 6:35question.
- 6:36>> Okay.
- 6:36>> Jesus Christ is the bread of life,
- 6:38right? And again, it's funny how it's
- 6:40interesting how we are doing this now
- 6:41because over the past few months, I've
- 6:43tried to be more intentional about my
- 6:45eating habits. You know, I I won't say
- 6:49it here cuz
- 6:50>> But I've not said anything.
- 6:52>> I've not said you said anything, but I
- 6:54just won't say but I'm just being more
- 6:55intentional and I've realized that bread
- 6:59is worrying us sometimes.
- 7:03>> Let's let's let's get a bit more
- 7:05practical.
- 7:06>> Okay. How
- 7:11bread?
- 7:12>> Mhm.
- 7:12>> Okay. We use it for you know breakfast.
- 7:16Some people we have lunch. [music] Some
- 7:17people have supper with bread. How
- 7:21essential or how how practically can we
- 7:24have bread and won't harm us? Cuz I know
- 7:26bread has a way it can harm us cuz most
- 7:29of the people listening here by now
- 7:30listening you're holding bread.
- 7:34Then when they squeeze it, the calories
- 7:36go out.
- 7:37>> You know, there was there was this video
- 7:38there was an eating competition. The guy
- 7:40just compressed the bread, right?
- 7:41>> Yes, I saw it.
- 7:42>> Yeah.
- 7:43>> Ch crazy. It will still go inside. It
- 7:46will be the same thing.
- 7:47>> Compressing it doesn't decrease.
- 7:48>> So tell us about bread.
- 7:50>> So bread,
- 7:52see bread is not bad. Bread is not bad.
- 7:54It's just for some people people who
- 7:56easily get constipated. [music] I don't
- 7:58think you should be doing too much
- 7:59bread. If you've noticed, bread causes
- 8:01constipation. Lots of bread. And when
- 8:03you are having diarrhea, some people
- 8:04will just advise you, oh just take bread
- 8:06to stop it. [music] So I would say that
- 8:08you should slow down on the bread. If
- 8:10you have issues with your gut, you are
- 8:11not able to empty your bowels often. You
- 8:13go to the washroom once a week. [music]
- 8:15I think you should hold on, slow down
- 8:17with the bread. And um if you have
- 8:20diabetes or you have any issues with
- 8:22your sugar or hypertension or anything
- 8:24like that, I would suggest you go for
- 8:26the wheat bread or the brown the one
- 8:28they call the brown bread. It's not
- 8:29brown bread. Please name
- 8:32>> it is
- 8:33>> it's not brown bread.
- 8:35>> No, it's brown. Bran is like wheat. B R
- 8:38R A N.
- 8:39>> Hey,
- 8:40>> but it's like Oh, it's a brown like
- 8:42what's brown.
- 8:43>> And no, if it's brown, so it makes it
- 8:45worse cuz it's brown.
- 8:46>> Exactly.
- 8:47>> Huh.
- 8:48>> Interesting.
- 8:49>> But you know, even the brown bread, we
- 8:51don't we hardly see the original ones
- 8:53now. People do a lot of the flour, the
- 8:55wheat flour in it. So, we don't really
- 8:57see the the brand in it.
- 9:00So, it's back to square one. But let's
- 9:02try maybe in the mall we can get some of
- 9:03those ones, the ones that [music] are
- 9:05mainly whole wheat. So, you can do that
- 9:08instead of always doing the white bread.
- 9:10I think that's a better option, a better
- 9:12replacement.
- 9:13>> So, please, they said eat brown bread.
- 9:16>> Yeah.
- 9:17>> Not brown bread, brown bread. [laughter]
- 9:19But then that leads me to another
- 9:20question. Um, for you personally, what
- 9:22has been your journey with food? I would
- 9:25say I think everyone has like a personal
- 9:27journey with food from allergies to
- 9:30eating habits. What has been your
- 9:32personal journey and how did that change
- 9:35after you started studying dietetics?
- 9:37>> Okay. So I me I like I like food and it
- 9:41was worse when I was a kid. I used to
- 9:43heat my plates up like the rice would be
- 9:45like a mountain on it
- 9:46>> like intentionally doing. Wow.
- 9:48>> Not intentionally but I would take so
- 9:50much that it would be heaped. So every
- 9:52time my cousin's like, "E, why?" You
- 9:54know, she used to always shout when she
- 9:56sees my plates. But now that I've
- 9:58studied the dietetics, I I'm able to I
- 10:01still like food, but I'm able to know
- 10:03what works for me, the portions, the
- 10:05quantity. I'm able to regulate that
- 10:07better. So I don't eat even though I
- 10:10like food, I don't eat
- 10:12anyhow.
- 10:15>> Okay. [laughter]
- 10:16I have another question. Okay. Okay.
- 10:19Okay.
- 10:19>> Yeah. So that that's that's how my
- 10:20relationship with food is great. I don't
- 10:22have it. The fact that I'm a dietician
- 10:23doesn't mean I will not go out and eat
- 10:25my fufu or go for a party. You know when
- 10:27you go for parties I don't like parties
- 10:30these days.
- 10:31>> Why?
- 10:32>> Because when I go everybody's they think
- 10:34I'm come to judge them. They think I'm
- 10:37some food police come to check. Hey what
- 10:40I mean they end up judging me.
- 10:43[clears throat] M
- 10:44>> it's like I mean I don't care eat your
- 10:46fufu but when I'm eating something
- 10:48they're like
- 10:49>> So when you go for [laughter]
- 10:52>> Oh me I like rice. I like jalof. So I'll
- 10:55just go for my jalof. I don't like to
- 10:56eat fufu
- 10:57>> in public.
- 10:59>> Exactly. Or maybe I go out to a local
- 11:03some a joint with my friends. That's
- 11:06fine. But not a party. I don't like to
- 11:08go and take fufu at a party. I think I
- 11:11think on on on the last podcast that you
- 11:12were on that's unscripted with Ran, you
- 11:14[music] mentioned the portions of Yes.
- 11:18>> of how our plates should look like. And
- 11:20I know it's interesting how I remember
- 11:23learning this in school. It's being
- 11:25called a balanced diet, you know, with
- 11:27[music] the proteins, with the
- 11:28carbohydrates, and with So, can you can
- 11:31you touch on that again for the
- 11:33believers listening to this?
- 11:34>> Yeah,
- 11:35>> cuz I will get to it. I feel like that's
- 11:37one of the parts of our belief journey
- 11:39that we are not very intentional about.
- 11:43I won't get ahead of myself. You just
- 11:45talk to us about that. The the balance
- 11:47that
- 11:47>> Let me just come in with the believers
- 11:48bit. I It's true. I feel like a lot of
- 11:50believers do not eat well.
- 11:52>> Yeah.
- 11:52>> Especially our men of God. No shade, but
- 11:57a lot of them are not taking care of
- 11:59themselves. So, but as you said, we'll
- 12:01come back. You know, but on the side, I
- 12:02I just also want to talk to the people
- 12:04that invite ministers and give us malt
- 12:06and pie already. Pie is a pastry and you
- 12:10give it to us at 9:00 p.m. When should
- 12:12we eat the am I?
- 12:14>> Oh, sure. It's true. It's not even It's
- 12:16not just there. Even in the corporate
- 12:17world like you go for programming item
- 12:2013 is pan.
- 12:22>> It's not good. What should they be
- 12:23giving us?
- 12:25>> The thing is will you people eat it? You
- 12:28see if they if they serve you veggies if
- 12:30they serve you veggies
- 12:32>> veggies
- 12:32>> a salad bowl will you will you eat salad
- 12:35bowl?
- 12:35>> Yes.
- 12:36>> Is that my
- 12:38>> some of them? Well, it depends. Some of
- 12:39them add some fish.
- 12:41>> Is it Ghanaian salad or just the leaves?
- 12:43>> Ghanaian salad. Chal that thing is it's
- 12:46crazy. Ghanaian salad is wild. But back
- 12:49to the thing you asked um the question
- 12:50you asked on balance
- 12:52>> the balance plate.
- 12:53>> So it's the same info I'm going to give
- 12:55here. So half of your plate should be
- 12:57your veggies or your soup or your stew.
- 13:00So usually when I only say veggies,
- 13:02people think, hey, so if I'm eating
- 13:04fufu, it means that you know they get
- 13:06confused. So just take it as half of
- 13:08your plate should be your 50% of your
- 13:10plate should be your soup or your stew
- 13:12or your vegetables.
- 13:13>> Okay,
- 13:14>> that should be rather plain tea.
- 13:17>> Again, I think there this this topic
- 13:20excites me, so permit me if I go on a
- 13:22little side tangent. What do you say
- 13:24about the people that do jolof with
- 13:25stew?
- 13:27Like so the way I saying half of the
- 13:29place should be stew veggies but the
- 13:32jolaf is so should I add stew to the
- 13:35jolov you me I like adding stew to my
- 13:37jof I know people come and say you come
- 13:39for me but I want more of the stew.
- 13:42>> Okay.
- 13:43>> I want it to be richer so I'll add stew.
- 13:45[music] But what you can do is to add
- 13:48the ve the veggies will be that your
- 13:50salad will be the half for the jolo. Do
- 13:53you [music] get it?
- 13:53>> I I get it.
- 13:54>> So you do you have your salad on the
- 13:55half.
- 13:56>> Okay. So half veggies, soup
- 13:58>> and then the other half
- 14:00>> will be your carbs, the rice, boom,
- 14:02fufu. That should take that quarter of
- 14:05your piece. And the remaining quarter
- 14:07will be the proteins, fish, egg,
- 14:11chicken, meat.
- 14:13>> That will take the other the other
- 14:14quarter.
- 14:17>> Why are you saying as for something you
- 14:19have to say?
- 14:19>> Pork is not bad. Pork is not bad. It's
- 14:21well it's not nothing is really bad.
- 14:23It's just that it's how much you take
- 14:25>> and pork has fat in it. Pork is actually
- 14:28white meat.
- 14:30>> You know white meat is better than red
- 14:31meat.
- 14:31>> Oh
- 14:32>> that's if you want to control your
- 14:34>> your pressure and your cholesterol
- 14:36>> pork.
- 14:36>> Yes. But there's a disclaimer. Pork has
- 14:40a lot of fat. So it kind of cancels it
- 14:43out. It's like it's good but the fat is
- 14:45also a lot. So yeah, back to square
- 14:48[music] square one square zero. Do you
- 14:51get it?
- 14:52>> Yeah, I get it. I get it. Okay. So you I
- 14:54I mentioned that we'll talk about
- 14:55believers. One of the main topics I want
- 14:58us to talk about on this episode is the
- 15:00topic of fasting and I think there comes
- 15:03a point in time where either fasting is
- 15:06done to the extreme or it's not done at
- 15:08all.
- 15:10I have had to study fasting because
- 15:13again out of all the spiritual
- 15:15disciplines prayer [music]
- 15:17the word um fasting fellowship fasting
- 15:22is my hardest
- 15:24is heading right so I've had to study it
- 15:27more and I know that it has more health
- 15:29benefits
- 15:30>> so talk to me about fasting from [music]
- 15:33a dietician's point of view
- 15:35>> okay so fasting is actually great you
- 15:38know that when you fast it's it
- 15:40activates a certain process called
- 15:42autofagy. [music] So autofagy
- 15:44>> let us go there.
- 15:46>> So autofagy is um basically your body
- 15:49clearing its cell [music] stuff dead
- 15:52cells and it's like it's clearing it
- 15:55system. So it's a very good thing. So
- 15:57when you [music] fast it's boosts that
- 15:59process it activates that process
- 16:01better. That's why it's good to fast
- 16:03aside the spiritual benefits. It's good
- 16:06once in a while just fast.
- 16:10dump you will dump the food in your
- 16:11stomach your stomach needs a break
- 16:13sometimes so it's like
- 16:14>> so when you say once in a while what
- 16:16frequency do you think people should
- 16:18even for the physical side and not just
- 16:20the spiritual side what frequency do you
- 16:22think people should fast
- 16:23>> for frequency there it depends on you
- 16:25>> okay
- 16:25>> cuz some people if you fast too much
- 16:28>> it can [music] affect you so it's it
- 16:30will depend on you your goals and
- 16:32everything what what you are up to the
- 16:34work you do we have to consider all that
- 16:37I can't just [music] sit here to say
- 16:38okay fast twice a month challenge. So
- 16:41we'll take it and
- 16:42>> and go and everybody will be like hey
- 16:44[music] so you you need you need a
- 16:46personalized guidance on what you have
- 16:49to do.
- 16:49>> So go and check dietwithd.com we have a
- 16:51website right now so please check it
- 16:53out.
- 16:53>> Yeah but again well the the the main
- 16:56point is that we should [music] look at
- 16:57fasting from a from a physical point of
- 16:59view. Talk to me about the spiritual
- 17:01point of view. So for the spiritual you
- 17:02know fasting is
- 17:06if you're not able to fast
- 17:10um it just shows you how you've made
- 17:13food your I don't want to say you made
- 17:14food your god but I think I should say
- 17:16like that if you're not able to fast
- 17:17it's you are not able to let it go even
- 17:20[music] once in a year it shows how food
- 17:24has become some kind of god in your life
- 17:26so as a Christian like you should be
- 17:28able to fasting the h it gives way for
- 17:31the hunger to come in and the hunger
- 17:33allows you to experience other things.
- 17:36It's like you are giving food away, you
- 17:37are giving distractions away for another
- 17:40thing to fill that void for the presence
- 17:42of God, for the voice of God to be heard
- 17:45clearly in your life. So sometimes you
- 17:47have to let those things go, let it go
- 17:49so that you can hear other things
- 17:50clearly, hear the voice of God, see what
- 17:52you have to do, um know what God wants
- 17:54you to do at every point in time.
- 17:56Personally, do you have any um
- 17:59testimonies [music] from fast?
- 18:01>> Yes, even this week. So, this week I
- 18:04fasted um this week, today Saturday and
- 18:08this week I fasted for like 3 days and
- 18:11it was about a certain project coming up
- 18:15with [music] someone and initially it
- 18:17was very slow. We were not getting any
- 18:19feedback but when I did so far about 30
- 18:22people have yeah 30 people have reached
- 18:25out and I was like wow which hardly
- 18:27happens usually when we are going to do
- 18:29it five people reach out but this time
- 18:3130 people reach out like yeah it's
- 18:33working it's working. [laughter]
- 18:35>> I think I think that the the interesting
- 18:37thing about fasting is we see it in
- 18:39every or most of the um essential
- 18:43spiritual parts of the Bible. we see
- 18:46that Jesus Christ as strong as he was.
- 18:48And I have this um revelation [music]
- 18:50that I I work with that I don't believe
- 18:52that Jesus Christ um was tempted because
- 18:57he fasted. I believe he fasted because
- 18:59he was going to be tempted.
- 19:01>> The temptation was was a set time. Most
- 19:04of the things that we face sometimes are
- 19:06set in stone, are going to happen. What
- 19:08the Holy Spirit does is he reminds you
- 19:10of the things you have to do [music] in
- 19:12order to fight those things better.
- 19:13Because just as you said, fasting is a
- 19:14weapon
- 19:15>> and fasting makes you more [music]
- 19:18um open to hear the word of the Lord. Um
- 19:21I I would also want to talk about
- 19:23>> before before you come,
- 19:24>> there was I just I just realized
- 19:25something. Um there was this part of
- 19:27scripture where Jesus said when you
- 19:28fast. He didn't say if you fast.
- 19:30>> Like my mind just went I think he was
- 19:32giving instructions for fasting and he
- 19:34was like when
- 19:34>> Yeah.
- 19:35>> If if fasting should be optional for the
- 19:38believer.
- 19:39>> He should have used if. And and it even
- 19:41goes to the time when the disciples
- 19:43couldn't cast out the [music] demon and
- 19:45they came to him. They brought him to
- 19:46him and they were like
- 19:47>> what happened? We've been doing all the
- 19:49other things and it's like [music] this
- 19:50kind
- 19:51>> this kind
- 19:52>> cannot go. That means there's a kind and
- 19:54I think I I see that from what you were
- 19:56saying that there's a project happening
- 19:58you're like nah this kind goeth not but
- 20:02by fasting and prayer. So if you are
- 20:05listening to this and you struggle with
- 20:06fasting, [music] um I I I want you to do
- 20:09this for me again because we want this
- 20:10podcast to be practical. Talk to the
- 20:11person that is like listening and finds
- 20:13it hard to fast. I think there are a lot
- 20:15of different ways to fast in the [music]
- 20:17Bible which definitely can work for
- 20:20someone.
- 20:20>> Yes.
- 20:21>> So which talk to us.
- 20:22>> So you know before let me just say this
- 20:24before I start um before every season
- 20:27every major season in a person's life
- 20:29the person fasted in the Bible. So when
- 20:30we see Elijah, one of the greatest
- 20:32prophets, he fasted for about 40 days.
- 20:35>> Um Jesus fasted for 40 days.
- 20:38>> Daniel fasted even though it wasn't the
- 20:40typical, [music] you know, but that's
- 20:41also a good thing. And who else? I'm
- 20:43trying to remember. But there were lots
- 20:44of Esther.
- 20:46>> Yes,
- 20:46>> Esther fasted because she knew she was
- 20:47going to do a very major thing.
- 20:50>> So see, if you're not fasting, you're
- 20:52doing yourself. But as a believer, there
- 20:55are different types of fast. There's
- 20:56fruit and vegetable fast. There's dry
- 20:58fast, intermittent fasting. But
- 21:00intermittent fasting is more inclined
- 21:02towards health health reasons. But you
- 21:04can adopt that once in a while. There's
- 21:07um
- 21:09why have I forgotten this thing? There's
- 21:11vegetable fast. There's a lot of fast.
- 21:14Some people even fast from their phones.
- 21:15Yes.
- 21:16>> But once in a while, be doing the one
- 21:19that will clear your stomach, let your
- 21:20stomach rest a bit, [music] the normal
- 21:23one. There's also fast that is not dry.
- 21:25You can take water, you can take coconut
- 21:27water, fluids and all that. So there are
- 21:29a lot of fat fasts. I'm sure if you go
- 21:31online right now, you see a lot of them.
- 21:33So
- 21:35as a believer,
- 21:38let me let me say something very
- 21:40controversial. You know, there are
- 21:41people who don't fast because they have
- 21:43ulcer.
- 21:44>> Talk to me.
- 21:46>> Yes. But
- 21:48sometimes when you fast, there are
- 21:50people who have fasted and it has healed
- 21:53them from the
- 21:54>> OSA.
- 21:56>> Sometimes we are scared. We've not tried
- 21:58something but we are scared. [music] We
- 21:59don't know. We just heard but we are
- 22:01scared to do it because we assume but we
- 22:04we don't really know
- 22:06what will happen if we do it. You know
- 22:09sometimes you just need to take a step
- 22:10of faith and try some things. You feel
- 22:12like oh I have ulcers so I can't do it.
- 22:15But [music] there are people who have
- 22:16done it and they've been healed. There
- 22:18are men of God and regular people who
- 22:20have done it and they've been healed. So
- 22:21I think you can try it once in a while
- 22:25just try a normal fast. Um [music] if
- 22:27you can't to for health reasons you can
- 22:29do your vegetable fast, fruit and
- 22:31vegetable fast. I think in January at
- 22:34church [music] we did fruit and
- 22:35vegetable fast.
- 22:36>> Yes. But I think
- 22:39you are not allowed to take milk and
- 22:40some other things during the fast
- 22:42because it can affect affect your tummy.
- 22:43So if you know you want to do a fruit
- 22:46and vegetable fast, I think you should
- 22:48reach out to a dietitian. [music] And
- 22:50the churches, I want churches to bring
- 22:53on board health professionals. You know,
- 22:55they should they they should make us
- 22:57involved in some of these things because
- 22:59sometimes you listen maybe the man of
- 23:02God is given rules for the fasting.
- 23:04You're like, "Hey,
- 23:07you know, some people can be affected,
- 23:08[music]
- 23:09but you've not really asked us what we
- 23:12want. what what what we what you think
- 23:14is right for them. So [music] I think
- 23:16they should bring on board health
- 23:17professionals. I
- 23:18>> think so too. I think I think definitely
- 23:20like for when periods of even even in
- 23:23the Bible even in the like with the
- 23:26Israelites when there was going to be a
- 23:27period of fasting there was always
- 23:29instructions that God gave on what
- 23:31things they should do in the fast. I
- 23:33think [music]
- 23:34even concerning food like the festivals
- 23:36of unleven bread and everything there
- 23:38were instructions. So yeah, I do agree
- 23:39with you that health professionals
- 23:41should be more invol like should be made
- 23:43involved [music] in these periods like
- 23:45this and also agree with you on the fact
- 23:48that [music] that's why God has given us
- 23:50different types of fast. We look at
- 23:52Daniel, we look at Daniel, Shadrach,
- 23:54Meshach and Abednego and they told the
- 23:55king that we we can't eat that meat.
- 23:58>> We have our thing, we will eat and we'll
- 23:59be fine. That was a big step of faith
- 24:01and that [music] type of fast it it
- 24:04yielded so many results. You know the
- 24:07the next thing I want to talk about is
- 24:10breaking the fast.
- 24:12>> I think there are so many times when
- 24:15>> breaking the fast negates the fast.
- 24:18>> Yes.
- 24:18>> Totally.
- 24:20>> So breaking your fast needs to be
- 24:21gradual. You don't just So there was
- 24:24this guy who was doing a fast. I was
- 24:27engaging this guy and he was telling me
- 24:28that he did a fast and [music] he wasn't
- 24:30breaking well. He would break with bread
- 24:33and sometimes wi you know boom boom boom
- 24:37boom like that and it affected him
- 24:39eventually he got some serious
- 24:41constipation and it became [music] I
- 24:44don't know how long he was fasting but
- 24:45it became something very serious so when
- 24:48you are breaking it start gently start
- 24:50with sips maybe fluids your tea
- 24:54>> [music]
- 24:54>> um if you have some juice you can start
- 24:56with that something very light then you
- 24:58progress to the soft food then you
- 25:01progress to your solid meals because
- 25:03your stomach has been closed for a
- 25:06while. So you don't just bake it you if
- 25:08they come and wake you up like that's
- 25:10you you will be fix you get
- 25:12>> you know one thing I want to say is I
- 25:13really like the way you relate like
- 25:15[music]
- 25:16the the body is still the body but you
- 25:18relates the feelings of the body.
- 25:20>> Yes in the sense because again back on
- 25:22the podcast you mentioned that [music]
- 25:24eating late is not advisable because the
- 25:26body is also resting like the body is
- 25:28also sleeping. So the way I saying wake
- 25:30it up.
- 25:31>> Yes. If they come and wake you up like
- 25:33that, you would not be happy. You would
- 25:34be
- 25:35>> so we should break with
- 25:36>> funny. So start. Yeah. You can some
- 25:38people are okay with fruit. But the
- 25:39fruits, not the acidic ones.
- 25:41>> You cannot go and break with sh
- 25:45>> take your you cannot you cannot go and
- 25:48break with orange.
- 25:49>> Yeah.
- 25:50>> Lemon. No. You would you would affect
- 25:52your
- 25:52>> lemon yourself.
- 25:54>> Yeah. So that's my two cents on that.
- 25:58>> Breaking your fast. Mhm.
- 25:59>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But then again like
- 26:00just to touch on it before we move to
- 26:02the next [music] segment about like um
- 26:05the core of a fast, the core of a fast
- 26:08being the spiritual discipline enough to
- 26:11move away from you know viewing [music]
- 26:13food as just as you said like I can't do
- 26:15without it to moving that I can't do
- 26:17without God. So always replacing you
- 26:20know I think a fast is also about
- 26:22intentional replacing intentionally
- 26:24replacing
- 26:25>> your time your your um all your
- 26:29activities with the activities of God.
- 26:32So even if like you you have a health
- 26:34condition you have a a tummy problem and
- 26:36you know you can't do that being
- 26:38intentional about replacing it as you do
- 26:40like a Daniel fast or a vegetable fast
- 26:42or something. Yeah. The next question I
- 26:44have is personally for you again I I I
- 26:46really want to understand your journey
- 26:48because I think it's an amazing journey.
- 26:51What do you think what is one of your
- 26:53hot takes
- 26:56>> about believers in in how [music] they
- 26:58eat in in food?
- 27:01>> Okay. Um Ghana Ghana is how many what's
- 27:03the percentage of Christians in Ghana?
- 27:05>> Yeah, I don't remember. But
- 27:07>> but we are a lot maybe like 90%. Please
- 27:10don't come for me. I'm not sure. But we
- 27:11are a lot of Christians.
- 27:13So why is it that we go for events
- 27:17and people who are fighting over food?
- 27:19Most of us are. We we all say we are
- 27:20Christians.
- 27:21>> This thing,
- 27:23[laughter]
- 27:23>> you go for a program and I don't
- 27:25understand that thing at all. Why are
- 27:27you fighting over food?
- 27:29>> Cuz you're hungry.
- 27:30>> Buffet and you are Oh, there was this
- 27:32program I went for. Oh, I was shy.
- 27:35People's mothers and fathers, it's like
- 27:37they were come to beat. I think I was
- 27:38the one behind I was serving. So [music]
- 27:41they were really angry. They were come
- 27:43to you know very it was getting
- 27:45aggressive. Someone even insulted me.
- 27:47>> Oh
- 27:47>> because I didn't give you an extra an
- 27:50extra pack of food
- 27:51>> because of food.
- 27:52>> Yes. Because of food. She had already
- 27:54come and I told her that look ma I've
- 27:56seen you already. You been here already
- 27:58[laughter] and then she begs like eh
- 28:01it's not for her it's for her grand some
- 28:03stories be but we knew that they were
- 28:05coming for
- 28:06>> you get into trouble.
- 28:08>> I'm sorry. No, no, no, no. But again, I
- 28:10think I think it's a very it's a very
- 28:12good one because that's one of the
- 28:13things that me um if you go for a
- 28:15program and you get food to eat like
- 28:17>> it's enough. Why?
- 28:19>> So you feel like
- 28:20>> So I feel like that's me that's it's
- 28:22something that bothers me like it really
- 28:25bothers me. So I I I think we should
- 28:27stop that. We should after you eat it's
- 28:30okay. Maybe if there's extra when
- 28:33everybody's done and you feel like I
- 28:34need more then. But that whole
- 28:36aggression, you are packing some in your
- 28:39bag. Yeah. Someone was even pouring the
- 28:41food in her purse.
- 28:43It's is a lot of it's embarrassing as
- 28:45well. So
- 28:47>> let's do better.
- 28:48>> Okay. The next thing I I I want to talk
- 28:50about is basing this on the verse that
- 28:51says taste and see that the Lord is
- 28:53good.
- 28:55What do you think cultivates people's
- 28:57[music] taste for stuff? Because again
- 29:00as a dietician one of the hardest and I
- 29:02was going to talk about this earlier so
- 29:04I'm glad it's come back. One of the
- 29:05hardest things to do is when you are
- 29:08actually craving something like like
- 29:11there are some things that so maybe you
- 29:13come home late but you are craving the
- 29:15food. Bible says taste and see that the
- 29:17Lord is good. Obviously [music] David is
- 29:19you know directing it to the presence of
- 29:21the Lord. How do you think as a
- 29:23dietician you would advise believers to
- 29:27curb their taste for stuff? Okay. So
- 29:30sometimes taste for stuff comes from it
- 29:34stems from emotions.
- 29:36>> Okay.
- 29:37>> The whole emotional eating thing. So
- 29:41you may emotions are not bad. Emotional
- 29:44eating is not totally bad. Sometimes
- 29:46when we say emotional eating we put it
- 29:48in a box of glutiny. We feel like
- 29:50emotional eating is glutiny. But there's
- 29:52a lot of things. There's a lot of
- 29:54different ways. There's anorexia.
- 29:55There's binge eating. a lot of
- 29:58categories of that. Even in the Bible,
- 30:00when Elijah was very emotional and
- 30:03depressed, [music]
- 30:03>> eat and sleep.
- 30:05>> Yeah. When you are sad, the first thing
- 30:08to do is to eat.
- 30:09>> Yeah.
- 30:10>> So, it's not totally bad to eat when
- 30:12you're sad, but you know, it's how you
- 30:14go about it. Because in the Bible, God
- 30:15book, God sent an angel to Elijah to
- 30:18>> wake him up. Shall eat? And it was more
- 30:20than one. It was two times
- 30:21>> and after he gave him the instructions.
- 30:23So,
- 30:23>> so are you trying to say that maybe the
- 30:24angel was saying that Elijah will get in
- 30:27so she wake up and eat
- 30:29>> guys?
- 30:31>> What? [laughter]
- 30:32Yeah.
- 30:34So, it's it's it's interesting. It's
- 30:37very interesting because he didn't just
- 30:40give him the instructions like, "Hey, go
- 30:41go go and do whatever you have to do."
- 30:43He made the angel feed him first. Not
- 30:45once, not twi. I think it was just
- 30:47twice.
- 30:47>> Twice.
- 30:48>> And then [music] after that, God gave
- 30:49him the instructions. So, sometimes you
- 30:51are not nourished. You just you need to
- 30:54eat first then your mind will be clear
- 30:56you know sometimes you're not sad you're
- 30:57just
- 30:57>> not sad you know that thing is actually
- 30:59true sometimes
- 31:00>> you know you feel depressed and things
- 31:02and so they just give you some go
- 31:05>> you know
- 31:05>> exactly
- 31:06>> some very heavy go [music] with
- 31:08>> exactly
- 31:09>> some
- 31:10>> but the issue with cravings is some of
- 31:13them are dopamine driven so dopamine is
- 31:16a hormone
- 31:18>> so that one dopamine driven [music]
- 31:20feelings are more like wants oh I want
- 31:22this. They are more like wants. They are
- 31:25not needs. You don't really need it.
- 31:26Nutritionally, you don't need it, but
- 31:28you just want it.
- 31:29>> Is there a way to tell the difference?
- 31:31>> Yes. So, usually the things that you
- 31:33want, the ones that are dopamine driven,
- 31:35is it's quick and you know the specific
- 31:38thing you want.
- 31:40>> Hey, I'm craving for ice cream.
- 31:42>> Okay,
- 31:42>> it's quick. And when you finish taking
- 31:45it, sometimes you feel guilty.
- 31:47But the normal one, the normal hunger,
- 31:50you know, normal regular hunger, it's
- 31:52gradual. You would eat things that are
- 31:55available. You don't really want a
- 31:56specific [music] thing. Usually, there's
- 31:58options. You just go for one of them and
- 32:00then you'll be fine. You don't really
- 32:02feel guilty. But with emotional eating,
- 32:04like binge eating, when the dopamine
- 32:07drives it, you you feel guilty about it
- 32:09usually
- 32:10>> after,
- 32:11>> especially if you're checking your
- 32:13weight.
- 32:13>> Yeah.
- 32:15that that's another thing I want to talk
- 32:16about. I think um weight gain and weight
- 32:19loss is a thing that a lot of people you
- 32:22know you know but but before we even go
- 32:25into that um I just want to finish with
- 32:27this this emotional thing [music]
- 32:30there sometimes you are not always what
- 32:32you eat sometimes
- 32:34>> you are
- 32:36what your [music] emotions I don't I
- 32:37don't know how to express it well it's
- 32:40like your emotions you are what your
- 32:42emotions want it's not always you're not
- 32:44always what you have so you [music] You
- 32:46need to ask yourself, why do I want to
- 32:50eat this? It's 9:00 p.m. or it's 10:00
- 32:52p.m. There's bread in the kitchen.
- 32:54>> There's bread in the kitchen. You've
- 32:56just got to take it.
- 32:57>> You're coming for me.
- 32:59>> Like you, you've eaten around 7.
- 33:01>> You're okay. It's not like you're
- 33:03hungry.
- 33:04>> You're okay. But you just see the chips
- 33:06or you see the bread, it's like let me
- 33:08take some.
- 33:08>> You know me, you know my problem. My
- 33:11problem is with snacks. [music] Like
- 33:12every day I want something sweet.
- 33:14Exactly. So for a period I started doing
- 33:16fruits instead. So when I finish eating
- 33:18and I want to do maybe biscuits.
- 33:20>> My favorite is milk shortcake biscuits.
- 33:22Munchies bring sponsorship.
- 33:25[laughter] Right. Yeah. But then I
- 33:27started doing fruits and it helped for a
- 33:29while.
- 33:30>> I mean that's good. That's actually
- 33:32good.
- 33:32>> Yeah. But I've stopped doing the
- 33:34biscuits now.
- 33:34>> Okay.
- 33:35>> And the fruit. But I'll get back to it.
- 33:37>> Okay. You need some fruits. Actually we
- 33:39need we need about two servings of
- 33:41fruits every day.
- 33:42>> Every day. We don't. Yes.
- 33:44>> Which kind of fruit?
- 33:46>> So a serving of an apple for example. An
- 33:48apple a seven is one.
- 33:49>> So an apple a day
- 33:50>> keeps the
- 33:54>> So we need we need we need act. So let's
- 33:57say let me make it practical. You need
- 33:58like two apples a day. If it's bananas
- 34:01you need like four a day. You need two
- 34:03servings of fruit every day. But one we
- 34:05don't do it. So even me sometimes I
- 34:08don't do it.
- 34:09>> So So do you mean two servings in a
- 34:10[music] at a go or space out? You can
- 34:12space it out. So maybe in between your
- 34:14meals, in between your l your breakfast
- 34:16and your lunch or in between your lunch
- 34:18and your supper, then you have it
- 34:21>> and five servings of vegetables.
- 34:23>> Jesus.
- 34:24>> Yep.
- 34:25>> Like
- 34:26>> but it includes the stew. So
- 34:28>> if you're doing a lot of stew, you're
- 34:29making up for it. Your stews and your
- 34:31soups.
- 34:31>> Again, I think we have a very just is
- 34:35a stew.
- 34:37>> No.
- 34:39No. It's a sauce and it's a sauce,
- 34:42right?
- 34:42>> So, it's not part of [music] the half
- 34:45like if I'm doing rice and
- 34:49>> I don't know. I don't see is overheated.
- 34:52The process takes a lot of heating. The
- 34:55structure of the oil changes.
- 34:57Um, at a point it can even become
- 35:00cancerous. I'm taking I'm taking my
- 35:02words carefully. No, no, no. I feel like
- 35:04we have cut this part out [laughter]
- 35:06even because
- 35:07>> again, you're not saying she talking
- 35:08scar, please. It can be because because
- 35:10of the way it is made [music]
- 35:12>> when it's the oil when it's heated for
- 35:14too long it can increase the trans fats
- 35:17in it. [music] So the oil instead of sis
- 35:19fat becomes transfat the structure
- 35:21changes it flips
- 35:23>> because of the heat and that can be
- 35:25cancerous. It can be very dangerous.
- 35:27>> Yeah.
- 35:28>> So
- 35:29maybe we should minimize how much we
- 35:31take it. We can't say we are cutting it
- 35:33out cuz it's part of our culture. But we
- 35:36should just check how much we take and
- 35:37then [music] how we cook it. So if you
- 35:39are doing your sh at home yourself, I
- 35:40think you should reduce the heating
- 35:42time.
- 35:43>> Should reduce the heating time. But you
- 35:44see it's a heating that also make it
- 35:46nice. That's what will turn it black and
- 35:49then make it nice. So just just minimize
- 35:52the number of times you take it. And if
- 35:54you are doing maybe kito add your
- 35:56veggies, cut some tomatoes, onions,
- 35:59green bell pepper. So when a woman is
- 36:01giving me plants, I should have J brain.
- 36:04>> I mean why not? But try and add other
- 36:06things to some tomato.
- 36:09>> What the woman has only
- 36:11>> when you come home come and cut it and
- 36:13add it.
- 36:14>> Okay. I've heard.
- 36:16>> But it's a start for a start. Jenny
- 36:18plenty J works.
- 36:20>> Yes.
- 36:21>> I think I think one thing I I like that
- 36:23you are saying is the fact that
- 36:24everything is a start like with eating.
- 36:27I like the fact that you're not the kind
- 36:28of person I say no stop this like you
- 36:31understand that it's a start. So if
- 36:32you're listening to this and you're a
- 36:33believer you're looking at going into
- 36:35fasting looking at being more
- 36:36intentional about your food because food
- 36:38has a lot of power.
- 36:39>> [music]
- 36:39>> food was able to transfer birth rights
- 36:41>> cholu
- 36:44[laughter]
- 36:46[snorts] that's stew I want to taste it
- 36:49>> I don't know
- 36:51>> another thing I want to talk about is
- 36:52physical activity
- 36:53>> okay
- 36:53>> as believers I think um we I think
- 36:56sometimes believers we get very lazy we
- 36:59get very lazy sometimes we are not we
- 37:01are not intentional about movement
- 37:03>> talk to me about the relation between
- 37:06food and movement
- 37:09Okay. So if you're eating you eating
- 37:12you're dumping it in your system over
- 37:13and over again especially heavy meals
- 37:16carbohydrate dense meals and you are
- 37:18sedentry you are sitting behind your
- 37:21behind your PC the whole day what
- 37:23happens is you end up storing some of it
- 37:26as fat the ones that you don't use. So
- 37:28the body uses some of it and then the
- 37:30rest of it is stored [music] as fat. So
- 37:32you keep on gaining weight. But if at
- 37:34least you're active in between your
- 37:36working hours, you are using the
- 37:37staircase. You're not using the
- 37:38elevator. You're using more of the
- 37:39staircase. You are doing things on your
- 37:42own. You don't send people to take this
- 37:44file to the next office. You yourself,
- 37:45you take the file.
- 37:46>> Is there something on your heart you
- 37:47want to say?
- 37:48>> Yes. I came from violence today. Um
- 37:52yeah. So if you take the file to the
- 37:53next office, you know, all these little
- 37:55things, you increase your steps every
- 37:57day. You try maybe set a target. Some
- 37:59people do 10,000. It works for them. You
- 38:01can start with maybe 5,000 if you are
- 38:03very sedentry and then we'll see how it
- 38:06go. It's better than just eating dumping
- 38:09it in. And some people have to reduce
- 38:11their portions. Some people need if you
- 38:13are someone who is not doing much. You
- 38:15don't need much. Don't eat to be to be
- 38:19stuffed.
- 38:20>> Eat to be satisfied. Don't eat to be
- 38:22stuffed. You know there's some kind of
- 38:24fullness that you you feel
- 38:27it's like you want to sleep like one
- 38:30that type of mention that there's a name
- 38:31for that thing when you are feeling
- 38:33sleepy after eating
- 38:34>> postpandial som
- 38:37>> yes [laughter]
- 38:39>> when you feel sleepy it's it's it's a
- 38:41reaction it's normal
- 38:42>> especially when you take heavy meals
- 38:44>> so but as I said try and check your
- 38:48portions if you're someone who is not
- 38:49really active reduce your portions
- 38:52of the carbohydrates, increase your
- 38:54veggies, your proteins. You know, when
- 38:56you do proteins, it makes you feel full.
- 38:57>> Yeah.
- 38:58>> When you increase your protein, so you
- 38:59can increase your proteins a bit [music]
- 39:01and then we'll see how it goes. If you
- 39:03can sign up for a gym, too, ch why not?
- 39:05>> And walk. Like right now, people are
- 39:06running.
- 39:07>> Yeah. I like the running culture.
- 39:10>> It wasn't like that some years ago.
- 39:11>> No, it wasn't. First running. It's like
- 39:13why are you running around? like it was
- 39:14only the white people would be saying
- 39:16running but now I like the fact that we
- 39:17ourselves are
- 39:18>> you know even as believers prayer walks
- 39:20are very very therapeutic thing prayer
- 39:22walks prayer runs whenever I used to run
- 39:26I used to do it with my headphones and
- 39:27then give me my Sunday [music] I'm not
- 39:30there you know
- 39:32>> me I can't run with
- 39:34>> if you you follow
- 39:36>> I want the you know the upbeat side the
- 39:39pop
- 39:40>> he has some of them so okay
- 39:42>> yes yes but Yes.
- 39:43>> The typical typical Sunday music is like
- 39:46I can't
- 39:49>> Okay, now we're about to enter into the
- 39:52biblical deep side of the podcast,
- 39:55right?
- 39:56>> The Bible itself is food for us. The
- 39:59Bible itself [music] is food. Okay,
- 40:03[laughter]
- 40:03>> he's he'sing me right now
- 40:06>> as a dietician.
- 40:08>> Okay.
- 40:08>> You obviously are communicating that you
- 40:11have to have a balanced diet. You have
- 40:13to eat some things, eat everything in in
- 40:15in moderation.
- 40:17From your personal view and your
- 40:20building in the word of God, what would
- 40:23you say that believers listening to this
- 40:26should learn more from the Bible?
- 40:28>> Okay. [music] You know, there was a part
- 40:30in the Bible where Paul was blasting
- 40:32some people that they were eating too
- 40:34much of the communion.
- 40:35>> Yeah. Yeah.
- 40:36>> Yeah. Like that's a typical example of
- 40:38eating too much. Why are you That's my
- 40:41issue. Why are you fight? Why are you me
- 40:43today? I came for that.
- 40:44>> You came for that. Okay.
- 40:45>> Who fights over food? You are
- 40:49when you see food, it's like you're
- 40:50aggressive. No, relax. So I I think
- 40:54Christians should take a quue from that
- 40:57>> that story and [music] then take a queue
- 40:59from ESO
- 41:01>> with how food is very food can be
- 41:03transactional. [music]
- 41:04food is used for trans. In fact, um if
- 41:06you look at some parts of Asia, Asian
- 41:09Asian something, I forgotten, but some
- 41:11parts of Asia when you eat together,
- 41:13[music] it's like you're entering a
- 41:14covenant with a person.
- 41:15>> I think they still do that in India.
- 41:16>> Yeah.
- 41:17>> When you eat with your hands.
- 41:18>> Exactly. India,
- 41:19>> you are entering a it's literally like a
- 41:20a covenant. It's a binding contract with
- 41:22a person.
- 41:23>> The we bound with people.
- 41:26>> So that is why our mothers were like
- 41:28don't go and eat anybody. It's not
- 41:30everybody's food you eat because food
- 41:32can be transactional. They can poison
- 41:34you. They can give you whatever.
- 41:36>> That doesn't mean go around and say the
- 41:38person you see the person food is
- 41:39poison.
- 41:40>> Exactly. So you need
- 41:42>> as a Christian you need to be led. It's
- 41:43not everybody's food that you go and put
- 41:45your hand in and eat.
- 41:46>> And those of you have been putting your
- 41:47hand in people's food. Someone Oh,
- 41:49yesterday somebody did something to me.
- 41:50>> Oh,
- 41:51>> like the person just came put her hand
- 41:53in my food.
- 41:54>> Ah.
- 41:54>> Out of the blue. I was like, so I
- 41:56couldn't eat again because first of all,
- 41:58I don't know where you're coming from.
- 42:00>> The gems. And
- 42:01>> Ghanaians, we don't wash our hands. I'm
- 42:02part.
- 42:03>> Yeah.
- 42:04>> Don't wash our hands. Wash your hands.
- 42:06>> You remember there was this there was
- 42:07this advert where the gems were blue.
- 42:10>> Pink. Yeah. It was was it key soap?
- 42:12>> I don't know. But she went to the
- 42:13washroom. It was like a campaign. It
- 42:15wasn't soap. They were teaching her
- 42:17something.
- 42:17>> She came to Pufu.
- 42:18>> Yes. And it was everything was Oh, I
- 42:20like that advert. They should bring it
- 42:22back.
- 42:23>> They don't need more of those campaigns.
- 42:26[laughter]
- 42:26But you saying in the Bible there was a
- 42:28point where Paul was talking about the
- 42:30kind of foods relating the word of God
- 42:32you know saying that we should crave for
- 42:35[music] the milk.
- 42:36>> Exactly.
- 42:36>> And there was also a point in time where
- 42:38he was saying that you need to graduate.
- 42:40I think that for the word of God there
- 42:43are some people that have been stuck on
- 42:45the you know the the the the normal
- 42:48things. But if you're listening to this
- 42:50just as the so talk to us from from from
- 42:52a side of food I know that there's there
- 42:55are some things that you should grow to
- 42:56eat. [music] For example, I didn't know
- 42:58things like chia seeds were like the
- 43:02only time I saw seeds and I thought it
- 43:04was okay was when it was on the burger
- 43:08>> I promise like like but then again the
- 43:11more I'm growing the more I'm realizing
- 43:12that those things are good fiber. Guys,
- 43:15I came prepared.
- 43:17I came from
- 43:18>> I'm impressed. I'm impressed. I would
- 43:20say
- 43:21>> they're good fiber. Right. [music] So
- 43:22talk to us about you know I'm sure the
- 43:25demographic for people listening to this
- 43:26are you know
- 43:28>> genz's
- 43:28>> jenz's yes but again people from their
- 43:3120s you know mid late [music] early 20s
- 43:34to early 30s and even late 30s. I also
- 43:37have some you know mothers and fathers
- 43:38listening to this. Talk to us about some
- 43:41of the things we have to graduate to
- 43:43start eating just like in the word of
- 43:44God. Okay. So, you mentioned the seeds.
- 43:46The seeds,
- 43:48>> it's not part of our culture.
- 43:50>> We didn't grow up eating seeds. Our
- 43:51parents, you know, when you start
- 43:53>> feeding a child with something, that is
- 43:55what they grow up to like the taste.
- 43:58>> Exactly. It it develops their pallets,
- 44:01their tongue, their pallet. So, their
- 44:03pallet gets used to such foods. So, if
- 44:05growing up your mom was always giving
- 44:06you drink, drink, drink, drink, drink,
- 44:08drink.
- 44:08>> I have a question. So, the palette like
- 44:10on the tongue is like the thing on the
- 44:11tongue. No, it's it's a structure.
- 44:14>> It's a structure.
- 44:15>> Yes.
- 44:16>> I thought okay.
- 44:18>> So if if if you are always being given
- 44:20drinks, a lot of drinks during
- 44:23childhood, you grow up and you you grow
- 44:26with it. Your taste buds get used to it.
- 44:28They like it. It has it has you know
- 44:32there's something called um
- 44:34socialization. That thing that really it
- 44:36has it has been socialized.
- 44:38>> Add my psychology. Say yeah. So it's
- 44:41also it's also conditioning you know
- 44:42you've been conditioned to feel like
- 44:44drinks give you that [music] you know
- 44:47response it's called a condition
- 44:49>> conditioned response so whenever you get
- 44:51drinks you're happy so just as you're
- 44:53saying you
- 44:54>> you grow up and then you are taking it
- 44:55so we need to start introducing it I
- 44:57think we should start
- 44:59>> someone said by next four years we'll be
- 45:01having we're watching the world cup with
- 45:03our kids so we should start [laughter]
- 45:09>> we should we should start we should
- 45:10start by then we should start feeding
- 45:12our kids when when they get to a certain
- 45:14stage where they can chew
- 45:15>> obviously not when they are babies we
- 45:17should start adding it to their meals if
- 45:18it's cocoa can sprinkle some seeds on it
- 45:21for them
- 45:22>> if they have the teeth to chew
- 45:24>> they can start chewing
- 45:25>> because I think that even with
- 45:27connecting um developing a pallet to the
- 45:30things of the Lord if you raise your
- 45:33kids [music] up in a particular
- 45:34understanding of who God is and what
- 45:37kind in the way they should go
- 45:39>> and what kind of the word of God they
- 45:42should receive when they grow up. For
- 45:44example, um I'll use my parents as an
- 45:46example. They they were careful to let
- 45:48us know that this is how we serve God.
- 45:50That's the food I grew up with, serving
- 45:53God, service to God. So, growing up,
- 45:55[music] I'm still eating that food. I'm
- 45:57still trying to even let other people
- 45:58eat that food. And same thing as you are
- 46:01saying, I think there are some people
- 46:02that don't grow [music] up or with a
- 46:05certain type of food or type of
- 46:07understanding of who God is. God is
- 46:09love. God is God is peace. God is kind.
- 46:13When you grow up understanding that
- 46:15that's the food you eat.
- 46:17>> The fruit of the spirit.
- 46:19>> Let's go there. Talk to me.
- 46:20>> The fruit of the spirit. Like when way
- 46:22you were saying it, it just it just it
- 46:24just came to mind. The fruit of the
- 46:25spirit. Love, joy, peace, Ghana, all
- 46:27those things.
- 46:29>> Food. It's fruit. Like it just makes
- 46:32sense.
- 46:32>> And you know the thing about fruits,
- 46:33fruits have to be cultivated.
- 46:36M
- 46:37>> so the fruits of the spirit have to be
- 46:38cultivated. So you know you were even
- 46:40talking about like fruits and the type
- 46:42of fruits. There are some fruits that
- 46:43are acidic
- 46:44>> but that doesn't mean that they are not
- 46:46healthy. They just not to be taken at a
- 46:48certain time. So that means the same
- 46:50with the fruits of the spirit. There are
- 46:51sometimes when the
- 46:52>> some that are some are difficult to to
- 46:54to cultivate.
- 46:56>> Yes. Like cocoa takes like seven years.
- 47:00Long suffering takes long
- 47:01>> and some are sweeter than some.
- 47:04>> Love is sweet. M
- 47:05>> but something like longsuffering.
- 47:07>> So we can use love. Maybe love can be
- 47:10pineapple.
- 47:10>> And then sometimes it's s give me
- 47:13something like sweet. Um al good to me.
- 47:16>> Hey life is tasty.
- 47:19>> And then and again longsuffering can be
- 47:22lemon or something.
- 47:23>> Lemon.
- 47:24>> Yeah.
- 47:24>> Lemon. It's true.
- 47:27>> Very.
- 47:27>> But then it's essential.
- 47:29>> Yes. Because when you add lemon to some
- 47:32[music] like those mixtures and things
- 47:34and you add a dash of lemon, it's just
- 47:36>> Do you know why we add lemon to some
- 47:37people sprinkle lemon on their salad?
- 47:39>> No.
- 47:40>> So veggies, most of veggies, especially
- 47:42the green ones, have iron in them.
- 47:44>> Mhm.
- 47:45>> And lemon has vitamin C.
- 47:47>> Mhm.
- 47:48>> Vitamin C helps with the absorption of
- 47:49iron.
- 47:50>> Mhm.
- 47:51>> You get it?
- 47:52>> So that thing that they drizzle lemon,
- 47:53it's not for fun. Everything ch
- 47:56everything is has a reason
- 47:58>> and you know some people also add olive
- 47:59oil dressing to their salad. Olive oil
- 48:03has fat
- 48:04>> and some of the veggies have um fats in
- 48:07them
- 48:07>> okay
- 48:08>> you know so olive oil helps with the
- 48:09absorption of those those ones the fat
- 48:13soluble vitamins so vitamin A D E K
- 48:17olive oil helps because of the fat in it
- 48:19it helps the body to absorb the fat
- 48:22soluble vitamins in them. Wow.
- 48:24>> So everything is challen
- 48:28our grandparents were doing
- 48:30>> most of them made sense.
- 48:33>> You know why they they pound they have
- 48:35to pound fufu? Have you thought of it?
- 48:38Why do we have to pound it to get it?
- 48:40>> Why?
- 48:41>> Because when you when you apply pressure
- 48:43on the cava or whatever most of the
- 48:46starchy foods that we have
- 48:47>> but let's use cava. When you apply
- 48:49pressure on the cava there's something
- 48:51in it called gluten.
- 48:52>> Yeah. So gluten activates and that is
- 48:55what causes it to be that sticky.
- 48:57[music] That is the gluten that is. So
- 49:00you need to apply pressure for the
- 49:01gluten to come out.
- 49:02>> Okay.
- 49:03>> And then make it that sticky jelly like
- 49:05thing.
- 49:06>> Yeah. [music]
- 49:06>> So that's why we pound
- 49:08>> everything. Everything I think because
- 49:10even if you look at most of the parables
- 49:12that Jesus Christ gave, it has to
- 49:14[music] do with trees. It has to do with
- 49:16vegetation. It has to do with food. And
- 49:19[music]
- 49:20even one of the biggest miracles we see
- 49:23was with food.
- 49:24>> Yes.
- 49:24>> Bread and fish which I haven't eaten
- 49:27before. Like
- 49:29>> was it
- 49:29>> I've eaten bread and chicken but not
- 49:31bread and fish.
- 49:31>> Why? Why haven't we eaten bread and
- 49:34fish?
- 49:34>> We should try. We should have
- 49:36>> I don't try. Should have had a basket
- 49:39with the bread and the bread and fish.
- 49:42We
- 49:42>> do. What kind of fish will you do?
- 49:45Maybe
- 49:47maybe tuna.
- 49:50>> Okay. No, I didn't think about a tuna
- 49:51sandwich.
- 49:52>> Yes. So that's bread and that's actually
- 49:54bread and fish.
- 49:55>> Yeah, but it's most of them are the
- 49:57canned ones.
- 49:58>> But that's fine. I mean it's it's not
- 50:00it's not terrible. It's good. It's okay.
- 50:02Just the oil that should be checked.
- 50:03>> Wow. I think I think I think food food
- 50:06is very very intentional. God has been
- 50:08intentional with food. The last thing I
- 50:11want to say has we we are winding down.
- 50:13This has been an amazing like you try.
- 50:16You try. You try. I just I just want us
- 50:18to talk to anyone watching this that
- 50:21>> just feels like food is normal. Like why
- 50:22are we trying to make make a big deal
- 50:25out of it? I'm just eating. I want you
- 50:27to [music] tell us this from both a
- 50:28spiritual point and a dietician's point.
- 50:31>> Okay. So God didn't we don't have to
- 50:33villainize food. I feel like people
- 50:35people feel like dieticians and people
- 50:38who are health conscious we like to make
- 50:39food look but if you're not supposed no
- 50:42because Jesus liked food
- 50:45Jesus went for parties Jesus took wine
- 50:48>> it's food is is good created food for
- 50:51our I feel like God created food as a
- 50:54gift for us
- 50:55>> yes
- 50:55>> so food is great you know God always
- 50:58Jesus always had these feasts with his
- 51:01people is not against enjoying your God
- 51:04is not against having fun with friends.
- 51:07Having a get together with your friends,
- 51:09[music] you eat and then you go. Why do
- 51:10they call it chal? They go break some
- 51:12bread. Why? Why do they call it that?
- 51:14>> Part of the things he said. He said so
- 51:15fellowship and the breaking of bread.
- 51:17>> Exactly. Because God knew how eating
- 51:20together is binding.
- 51:23>> It's binding.
- 51:24>> So he adopted that with his people.
- 51:27>> And another thing I I want to talk about
- 51:29something I'm going blank.
- 51:32Go.
- 51:32>> I had something in mind I wanted to talk
- 51:33about, but I'm I'm It's It's still
- 51:35coming back. [music]
- 51:36There was a scripture in my mind. I've
- 51:38forgotten about it.
- 51:39>> It will come. It will come to come.
- 51:41>> I'm trying to remember. I'm not
- 51:42remembering.
- 51:43>> Come. Let's Let's talk. It will come.
- 51:44But I'm sure that yet God talking about
- 51:47food is a very spiritual very very very
- 51:50spiritual thing because again I'll use
- 51:52I'll always use taste and see as an
- 51:54example. Why does he say we should taste
- 51:56and see?
- 51:57>> That means first of all you have to
- 51:59>> eat it.
- 52:00>> Mhm. And then from eating it you have to
- 52:02embibe it [music]
- 52:03>> and from embibing it you are able to
- 52:05have that revelation of
- 52:06>> the goodness of the lord. He relates
- 52:08[music] his goodness
- 52:10>> to food. That means food is good but
- 52:12everything in moderation.
- 52:14>> Exactly. Everything we we said in the
- 52:16beginning that fasting is also very very
- 52:17very essential because the same thing
- 52:19that he gave us [music] to help us and
- 52:22to you know guide us is the same thing
- 52:24that he's like you know what sometimes
- 52:26it has a propensity to become a god. So
- 52:29take your time with it.
- 52:30>> And in relation to the eating in
- 52:33moderation and people being
- 52:36aggressive with food, [music]
- 52:38there's actually scriptural evidence
- 52:40that shows that because
- 52:42>> you know when Jesus was given, God was
- 52:44giving them the mana in the wilderness.
- 52:47>> Mhm.
- 52:48>> He I feel like that story just shows us
- 52:50how God wants us to depend on him.
- 52:53>> Yeah.
- 52:54>> Daily.
- 52:55>> Give us
- 52:56>> our daily bread.
- 52:56>> Give us this day. Daily our give us
- 52:59today our daily bread for our daily
- 53:01bread because whenever they store the
- 53:03gospel
- 53:04>> gospel
- 53:05>> I there's a huge message there
- 53:08>> because it it's just a way of showing us
- 53:10that we need to trust God daily. Trust
- 53:12God daily for your for your
- 53:15>> provisions your food and everything.
- 53:17Trust God. It doesn't mean that you
- 53:18should throw your food away. No, I'm not
- 53:19saying that. But it's just a a symbolism
- 53:22how we need to come to God daily. So
- 53:27>> you know the says that um and again when
- 53:29Oppoa came on this podcast he mentioned
- 53:31that like clothing is such a prohibition
- 53:33because he says that do not care about
- 53:35the the liies or the birds of the earth
- 53:37and the birds he said that they don't
- 53:38care about what they eat but he feeds
- 53:40them every [music] day and who any of
- 53:43you from worrying can add a measure to
- 53:45your life that means if you are watching
- 53:47this and sometimes again we are not
- 53:48saying that it's easy it gets hard
- 53:50sometimes you don't know where the next
- 53:51meal is coming from but God cares. cares
- 53:54[music] about your food, cares about
- 53:56what you are eating. So, he's going to
- 53:58provide for you.
- 53:59>> And another thing I want to add, um,
- 54:01[music] sometimes you have to ask
- 54:02yourself, what am I hungry for?
- 54:05>> What is making me hungry?
- 54:07>> It could be, it could be something
- 54:10you're feeling, but you're using food as
- 54:11a cover up. Maybe you need to talk to
- 54:15someone. You need to pray more. You need
- 54:17to do something more. But you just feel
- 54:19like, let me just go and get something
- 54:20to eat. So before you you you you grab
- 54:23something random to eat when you know
- 54:25that you're not supposed to do that you
- 54:28have to ask yourself these things.
- 54:29>> You know it's interesting because even
- 54:30the verse that we always used to say
- 54:31that we should eat plenty that's like
- 54:33God waking as as we referenced. He
- 54:35actually prayed and told God that this
- 54:37is how I'm feeling and then he slept and
- 54:39God said okay this is what I want you to
- 54:41do.
- 54:41>> So there's something I called halt. I
- 54:43call halt. H A L T. You need to ask
- 54:45yourself am I hungry?
- 54:46>> Mhm.
- 54:47>> Or I'm angry. That's the [music] A.
- 54:49Please, my G people.
- 54:52>> I'm sorry. I'm sorry. [laughter]
- 54:54Am I hungry or angry? [music]
- 54:57>> Lonely,
- 54:57>> lonely or tired? You need to ask
- 54:59yourself all these things cuz sometimes
- 55:01you are using food to fill a certain
- 55:03void that you need to
- 55:05>> you need to pray about.
- 55:06>> Hold is usually used in the context of
- 55:08self-control and temptations.
- 55:10>> It's also used for food
- 55:11>> and it's used for food too because
- 55:14most of the temptations we we face
- 55:16>> Yeah. [music] are on the line of our
- 55:18desires. So
- 55:19>> there's this lady that um saw me, this
- 55:22older lady um [music] she she has an
- 55:25emptiness now. Her children have
- 55:27traveled, some of them have married
- 55:28[music] and she's only gaining weight.
- 55:30Why? Because she was lonely.
- 55:32>> So she was eating to
- 55:35>> she was just eating to fill the void and
- 55:36she started gaining. So she came to see
- 55:38me and all that. So it's something
- 55:39people actually do. People eat a lot
- 55:41when they get lonely.
- 55:43>> Yeah. So as we wrap up, I want you to
- 55:46talk to someone that is watching this
- 55:48and feels that food is just normal also
- 55:52feels like um
- 55:55feels like fasting is a very difficult
- 55:57thing to do. So [music] food is normal,
- 55:59fasting is a difficult thing to do and
- 56:01they are looking to find God in that
- 56:03area of their life.
- 56:05>> Okay. First of all, I want to say when
- 56:08when you eat this evening, say thank you
- 56:09to God. When you [music] have a a plate
- 56:12of food on your table this evening, just
- 56:14say a prayer. I don't remember the last
- 56:16time. I know some people who don't
- 56:18remember the last time they said a
- 56:19prayer
- 56:20>> before eating.
- 56:21>> God bless the farmer.
- 56:22>> Shal that thing. We've
- 56:23>> stopped eat we've
- 56:27we've stopped that thing. We need to be
- 56:28doing it more. Say thank you to God cuz
- 56:31there are people who are not getting
- 56:33that first of all. And it's food is
- 56:37God's love language to us. That's
- 56:38something [music] I always say. Food is
- 56:40God's love language that but he himself
- 56:42came in the form of he said he's bread
- 56:43he's wine so I know that it's very
- 56:45important to God and we need to check
- 56:48our appetites what is driving you is
- 56:51[music] is food becoming a hindrance to
- 56:54you are you are you not able to fast
- 56:56like you have to look at all these
- 56:58things are you able to let go of food to
- 57:02get something else in return if you're
- 57:04not then you need to check that and then
- 57:06we need to bring back the habit of
- 57:08eating together.
- 57:09>> I think we need to bring back as a
- 57:11family cuz through that a lot of things
- 57:14[music] are done. A lot of decisions are
- 57:16made. Jesus did that with his disciples.
- 57:20So I think we need to also start doing
- 57:21that. And what else is there to say? I'm
- 57:24trying to remember what else. Let's see.
- 57:26But that's it. And go to www.dwithd.org.
- 57:31>> Yes.
- 57:32>> Today.
- 57:33>> Thank you.
- 57:34>> Thank you so much. Thank you so much.
- 57:36This was an amazing episode and I know
- 57:39that food we're going to look at food
- 57:40differently from now.
- 57:41>> Yeah.
- 57:42>> Thank you so much.
- 57:43>> Thank you too.
- 57:43>> Catch you on the next episode.
- 57:47>> So I'd just like to remind you that no
- 57:51matter the situation you find yourself
- 57:53in, it can be anything, [music] even the
- 57:55most unlikely thing. I just want to
- 57:58remind you that if you look carefully
- 57:59enough, you will see God in the detail.
- 58:04Thank you.
- 58:09>> [music]
