  1. 0:00hey guys Roger burly vocal coach here in
  2. 0:02Hollywood California I am going to give
  3. 0:05you three tips three exercises that you
  4. 0:09can use every day to develop an amazing
  5. 0:14voice and I'm gonna give you the Roger
  6. 0:16Burnley application to these exercises
  7. 0:19because some of these you might have
  8. 0:20done before but you might have done them
  9. 0:22in a little bit of a different way but
  10. 0:24I'm going to give you something like
  11. 0:25feel is much more effective because it
  12. 0:28gets the results that we want the first
  13. 0:30one is a lip trill which you probably
  14. 0:31have done or seen many many people do
  15. 0:33now understand when I'm saying lip trill
  16. 0:36I am NOT saying lip bubble because you I
  17. 0:40see this all the time I've seen so many
  18. 0:41people on even on TV doing this and I
  19. 0:44don't want you to do it and it's this
  20. 0:47now for some people I might have them do
  21. 0:51that depending on what their voice is
  22. 0:54been doing you know that might need to
  23. 0:56correct but for most people no I don't
  24. 0:58want you to do that because what starts
  25. 1:00to happen is you will start to
  26. 1:03inadvertently you won't know that you're
  27. 1:04doing it but you start to cut yourself
  28. 1:06off because you're stopping your air and
  29. 1:08you're falling back in your throat as
  30. 1:09you're going higher and then you start
  31. 1:11to push this is why you're having vocal
  32. 1:14trouble is because you're blocking
  33. 1:16things and you're starting to push so
  34. 1:17I'm gonna give you this and I want you
  35. 1:19to pay attention when I'm doing because
  36. 1:20I'm starting in what I call a clean way
  37. 1:23not taking a breath on that first note I
  38. 1:25know that's crazy but it works not
  39. 1:27taking a breath on the first note and
  40. 1:28then thinking down even though I'm
  41. 1:31hearing the notes go up I'm gonna do a
  42. 1:36little bit so you can hear it
  43. 1:39[Music]
  44. 1:49you may need to push up here so you can
  45. 1:53find a clean starting place that's what
  46. 2:07I'm doing there now I'm gonna give you
  47. 2:09something else with this one because
  48. 2:10it'll make a big difference you're not
  49. 2:12gonna do this all at once oh so just so
  50. 2:15this is actually a little forth tip for
  51. 2:17you but anyway take this one and I want
  52. 2:19you to really now here the lower notes
  53. 2:22and this is takes a little bit of time
  54. 2:24but it will start to train your body to
  55. 2:27keep your larynx your voice box more in
  56. 2:29a stable place so as you're coming down
  57. 2:33I'm thinking that I'm closing and going
  58. 2:37up on the lower notes not continually
  59. 2:39going down to retry to reach him I'm
  60. 2:44gonna do it on the exercise so hopefully
  61. 2:45you could hear this
  62. 2:48[Music]
  63. 3:02[Applause]
  64. 3:04now I really have to think about that
  65. 3:07because my whole problem was always
  66. 3:09falling back in my throat and and
  67. 3:11pushing so you may have to really
  68. 3:13concentrate and give yourself time to
  69. 3:15get this but I'm telling you over time
  70. 3:17it'll make a big difference the
  71. 3:19surprising thing that will happen as you
  72. 3:20master this you will start to discover
  73. 3:23that you're able to sing your higher
  74. 3:25notes a lot easier as well so that's the
  75. 3:28first thing to do now the next exercise
  76. 3:31are the third tip that I'm going to give
  77. 3:33you is getting these swallowing muscles
  78. 3:35to release or relax a lot more so you're
  79. 3:38not straining now what you're going to
  80. 3:40do is this really incredibly ugly
  81. 3:42exercise and nenene you've probably seen
  82. 3:44me do it before where you have your
  83. 3:46thumbs under here Mae Mae Mae Mae Mae
  84. 3:50Mae Mae Mae Mae Mae Mae Mae that's all
  85. 3:53you gonna do just just try to get this
  86. 3:55and again because you've practiced doing
  87. 3:59closing the lower notes on the lip trill
  88. 4:01already you will start to feel or hear
  89. 4:04that you will naturally start to do that
  90. 4:06on this one as well that's what starts
  91. 4:08to happen you will develop certain
  92. 4:10techniques and you will carry it over to
  93. 4:11other things so you know you'll do that
  94. 4:13even in songs as well but let me I'm
  95. 4:15just kind of show you this one
  96. 4:20neh-neh-neh-neh-neh-neh-neh Mae Mae Mae
  97. 4:22Mae Mae Mae Mae Mae Mae Mae Mae Mae Mae
  98. 4:25Mae
  99. 4:28[Music]
  100. 4:29neh-neh-neh-neh-neh-neh-neh now what I'm
  101. 4:31doing there intentionally before the
  102. 4:34higher notes
  103. 4:34nenene I'm realizing I gotta let go and
  104. 4:38I want to push you into it
  105. 4:41neh-neh-neh-neh-neh-neh-neh I'm letting
  106. 4:43go and coming down bend my cords are
  107. 4:45able to come together get a nice clean
  108. 4:47sound and I'm not wrecking or destroying
  109. 4:49my voice so you can hear it may may may
  110. 5:01may may may may may may may may may may
  111. 5:05may may now as you're going along and
  112. 5:08you'll go higher and if you start to
  113. 5:10feel yourself struggling or the muscles
  114. 5:12come down just stop don't keep going
  115. 5:14because then you'll start to cause more
  116. 5:16problems you'll be in reinforcing bad
  117. 5:19habits which we want to get rid of okay
  118. 5:20so now the third thing I'm going to give
  119. 5:22you and this is going to help you in a
  120. 5:23lot of different ways it's going to help
  121. 5:25you develop your power your breathing
  122. 5:28control and all of that so what you're
  123. 5:30going to think is that every time you're
  124. 5:32starting to sing I mean give you let's
  125. 5:35let's make it a little challenging for
  126. 5:36you I'm gonna give you an a sound I say
  127. 5:38that it's challenging because that uh-oh
  128. 5:40you kind of want to do that and fall
  129. 5:42back in your throat or go out wide as I
  130. 5:44call it but anyway just understand this
  131. 5:46is a little more difficult difficult to
  132. 5:48control this sound but as you master it
  133. 5:52the other things that you're singing
  134. 5:54you're going to feel much easier I'll
  135. 5:55give you some very specifics on this
  136. 5:56okay let me go to this exercise okay
  137. 5:59I'll go
  138. 6:00[Music]
  139. 6:03ah
  140. 6:07[Music]
  141. 6:13now I want you to hear what I'm doing
  142. 6:15here ah I'm letting go at that highest
  143. 6:20note let before I get there closing
  144. 6:23little bit and thinking down ah I'm
  145. 6:28closing and going down now I'm just kind
  146. 6:31of exaggerating that I don't want you to
  147. 6:32sense that but then what's gonna start
  148. 6:35to happen and you'll get a sense of this
  149. 6:36you're gonna feel how you now you have
  150. 6:38much more access to your power as I'm
  151. 6:41coming down letting go of that highest
  152. 6:42note and if I'm thinking I'm slightly
  153. 6:44pushing out in my stomach my diaphragm
  154. 6:46then I'm gonna maintain a lot more of my
  155. 6:49air number one but then I'm also gonna
  156. 6:51feel that I have a lot more power now do
  157. 6:53not do this if you can't master the idea
  158. 6:56of pulling down first okay it may take
  159. 6:58you a while but let me show you what I'm
  160. 6:59talking about
  161. 7:00ah ah I'm open
  162. 7:08ah
  163. 7:14[Music]
  164. 7:16Oh
  165. 7:18now I could keep going and just really
  166. 7:20blast that out because when I'm thinking
  167. 7:22I'm not pushing up into it I'm
  168. 7:24maintaining the access to my airflow and
  169. 7:27I'm holding it out and having more power
  170. 7:30because I'm thinking I'm pushing my
  171. 7:32diaphragm out a tiny bit instead of
  172. 7:34clenching in and closing off and
  173. 7:36dispensing all of the air or available
  174. 7:39air that I could have so again these
  175. 7:43things if you do them all the time I'm
  176. 7:45telling you and if you understand them
  177. 7:47and doing just this way and if you
  178. 7:48attach the Roger Burnley idea to them
  179. 7:51you're gonna have a really amazing voice
  180. 7:54all right I know this helps you a lot
  181. 7:56and just use it and be diligent with it
  182. 7:59and look out for the next video all
  183. 8:01right I'll see you guys soon
