- 0:08the Berenstain Bears Get the gimmies by
- 0:11Stan and Jan Berenstein
- 0:16when a Cub's Behavior takes a turn for
- 0:18the worst it's hard for parents to know
- 0:20what to do first
- 0:25the Berenstain Bears Get the gimmies
- 0:29of course the members of the bear family
- 0:32who lived in the big tree house down a
- 0:34sunny Dirt Road in Bear Country loved
- 0:36each other they loved each other very
- 0:38much brother and sister bear loved their
- 0:40mama and papa naturally mama and papa
- 0:43bear loved their cubs and of course they
- 0:45were nice to them as nice as they could
- 0:48be but sometimes sometimes they were a
- 0:52little too nice
- 0:54sometimes the Cubs got too many treats
- 0:57too many toys and too many rides on the
- 1:01Bucking duck at the mall
- 1:07maybe that's why brother and sister bear
- 1:09got the gimmies or maybe it was because
- 1:12there were treats toys and fun things to
- 1:15do wherever they looked at the
- 1:17supermarket at the mall on TV and just
- 1:21about every witchware
- 1:23maybe that was why they began making a
- 1:26fuss to get what they wanted especially
- 1:28at the supermarket checkout where there
- 1:30were always Stacks and stacks of candy
- 1:32and other goodies now Cubs mama bear
- 1:35said as the family got in to the
- 1:37checkout line and she saw that old gimme
- 1:40gleam in their eyes we can't have a big
- 1:43fuss every time we pass Candy I simply
- 1:46won't stand for it
- 1:51but Mama wine sister they have gummy
- 1:54gumballs my favorite and chewy Chompers
- 1:58my favorite wine brother now hush said
- 2:01Mama I simply won't listen to another
- 2:05word
- 2:06that's when Papa Bear smiled and said
- 2:09now Mama you're only young once and
- 2:12handed the Cubs their favorite treats
- 2:15it's only too true said Mama as they
- 2:18were leaving the supermarket that you're
- 2:20only young once but that's all the more
- 2:22reason to learn proper behavior while
- 2:24you're still young and I certainly think
- 2:26look look Shadow sister a new ride hey a
- 2:30bucking frog shouted brother that looks
- 2:33even better than the Bucking duck may we
- 2:35ride it please may we maybe please
- 2:39foreign
- 2:41had just bought them treats and he
- 2:44thought that was enough for one day but
- 2:46the Cubs made such a fuss that he sighed
- 2:48and dug into his pocket and put some
- 2:50money in the slot
- 2:52Papa looked at Mama and Shrugged Cubs
- 2:55will be Cubs he said
- 3:00it may be true that Cubs will be Cubs
- 3:02said Mama as they walked across the
- 3:04parking lot to their car but that's no
- 3:06excuse for jumping up and down and
- 3:08making a scene every time they say
- 3:10something they want look look shouted
- 3:13the Cubs once again little rubber cats
- 3:15that stick out their tongues when you
- 3:17squeeze them Cub said Mama that will be
- 3:20quite enough I don't want to hear
- 3:22another word
- 3:26oh please they shouted may we have them
- 3:29please please please Papa decided it was
- 3:32time to put a stop to all the fussing
- 3:35stop that fussing he said in his loudest
- 3:38Papa Bear voice but they were making
- 3:40such a commotion they didn't even hear
- 3:43him sister was jumping up and down so
- 3:46hard that she fell over backward and
- 3:48started kicking her feet in the air
- 3:50please please shouted the Cubs so loudly
- 3:53that the whole parking lot took notice
- 3:56ER said embarrass Papa to the toy seller
- 3:58two of those rubber Pussycats please
- 4:04the rubber Pussycats not only stuck out
- 4:07their tongues when you squeeze them they
- 4:09went squeak squeak as well and they
- 4:11squeak squeaked all the way home
- 4:15mama was quite annoyed by the time they
- 4:17got back to the tree house but Papa was
- 4:19so angry he could hardly speak it wasn't
- 4:22until the Cubs had gone about their
- 4:24business and Mama had made a pot of tea
- 4:27that Papa's voice came back loud and
- 4:29clear oh well they outrageous
- 4:32disgraceful embarrassing Behavior I have
- 4:35ever seen he roared that selfish greedy
- 4:38performance by our Cubs was the worst
- 4:41brother and sister have the worst case
- 4:44of the Galloping greeting gimmies I have
- 4:47ever seen
- 4:51yes and Mama calmly sipping her tea but
- 4:54have you ever stopped to think about why
- 4:56they have the gimmies perhaps their
- 4:58greedy behavior isn't all their fault
- 5:00perhaps it's partly our fault for giving
- 5:03in every time they make a fuss Papa
- 5:05listened quietly
- 5:06perhaps so he said it's up to us she
- 5:10continued to explain things to them to
- 5:12help them understand why it's important
- 5:14not to be greedy then Papa called the
- 5:17Cubs in for a talking to he told them
- 5:19why it wasn't a good idea to be selfish
- 5:21and greedy and want everything in sight
- 5:24selfish greedy Cubs he explained can
- 5:27never be happy because you just can't
- 5:29have everything you want all the time
- 5:31life isn't like that do you understand
- 5:34oh yes papa we understand they said
- 5:42he talked to them about counting Their
- 5:44Blessings which meant enjoying the
- 5:46things they had instead of forever
- 5:48wanting more and more and more does that
- 5:51make sense to you he asked oh yes papa
- 5:53they said it makes a lot of sense that's
- 5:56when the Cubs heard the sound of a
- 5:58familiar car door it was Grizzly Gramps
- 6:00and Grand come to call
- 6:02brother and sister ran to open the front
- 6:04door and as Gramps and Grand came up the
- 6:06steps they made the biggest fuss yet
- 6:10would you bring me this cream would you
- 6:12bring me would you bring me that did it
- 6:19up to your room roared Papa up to your
- 6:24room and no TV or treats for a week for
- 6:27a month for a year the Cubs knew this
- 6:30wasn't the time to argue they scurried
- 6:32up the stairs and into their room
- 6:34we seem to have come at a bad time Sid
- 6:36Gran what about these things we brought
- 6:38with us as gribs a puzzle for brother
- 6:40and a top for sister your presence will
- 6:43have to wait Gramps answered Mama I'm
- 6:45afraid brother and sister have a bad
- 6:46case of the guineas The Galloping greedy
- 6:49gimmies added Papa the worst case I've
- 6:51ever seen the Cubs opened their door a
- 6:55crack to listen
- 6:58the worst case yesterday said Gramps
- 7:01looking pop in the eye
- 7:02seems to me you are quite a gimme Cub
- 7:05yourself when you were little brother
- 7:07and sister sneaked to the top of the
- 7:08stairs so they could hear better I was
- 7:11said Papa of course we didn't have malls
- 7:14or supermarkets back then but there was
- 7:16old roof Grizzlies General Store
- 7:18wonderful place so just about everything
- 7:21honey cake licorice sticks molasses
- 7:24apples and all sorts of toys and
- 7:25novelties and did you ever have the
- 7:28gimmies did you ever you wanted
- 7:30everything in sight down right in
- 7:33Barrison why it got so bad we couldn't
- 7:36go there anymore
- 7:41so we worked out a deal said Gran when
- 7:43it came time for a trip to the General
- 7:45Store we had you decide on a treat ahead
- 7:47of time it could be a sweet a toy or a
- 7:50book and that was it for the day right
- 7:53said Gramps and if you came down with
- 7:55the gimmies we went right home and you
- 7:57got nothing
- 7:59that sounds like a pretty good plan to
- 8:01me said Mama me too said Papa the Cubs
- 8:03tiptoed back to the room and sounded
- 8:06okay to them too
- 8:11the next time the bear family went to
- 8:13the supermarket they tried the Gramps
- 8:15and grand plan and it worked
- 8:18brother decided he would get a book
- 8:20about dinosaurs and sister wanted a new
- 8:23box of crayons mama and papa were very
- 8:25proud when the Cubs passed the candy
- 8:27rack without so much as a peep brother
- 8:30and sister were pretty proud of
- 8:31themselves too
- 8:37but then they heard it the familiar
- 8:39sound of a cub with a bad case of the
- 8:41gimmies the kicking screaming Cub was
- 8:44just behind them in the checkout line
- 8:46you never heard such a fuss
- 8:49what outrageous disgraceful embarrassing
- 8:52Behavior said sister may we leave yeah I
- 8:56said brother let's get out of here
- 9:01and that's how brother and sister bear
- 9:04got rid of a pretty bad case of the
- 9:06Galloping greedy gimmies
- 9:11thank you
