  11. 0:16a lot of people just want something from
  12. 0:17them and they um and they gotta put up
  13. 0:19this protective ex
  14. 0:21exterior so i'm busting through that and

  29. 0:49and let me tell you they have some juicy
  30. 0:51tips this is a new series i'm calling
  31. 0:54the world's most interesting people
  32. 0:57hello hello youtube friends today we are
  33. 1:00talking about
  34. 1:00reinventing yourself and i am so excited
  35. 1:03to have todd herman on the call hello
  36. 1:06vanessa it is a pleasure to be here with
  37. 1:08you so can i brag about you for a second
  38. 1:10oh please do that's the only way i like
  39. 1:11things to be started okay good so todd
  40. 1:14herman is the author of the best-selling
  41. 1:15book
  42. 1:16and this is an incredible book the alter
  43. 1:18ego effect the power of secret
  44. 1:20identities to transform your life
  45. 1:23he's also the recipient of ink inks
  46. 1:25500's fastest growing companies award
  47. 1:27he's worked with elite performers in
  48. 1:29sports and business for over two
  49. 1:31decades todd welcome welcome again it is
  50. 1:35uh we're gonna have some fun
  51. 1:36let's uh let's reinvent some people i
  52. 1:38mean so this is i think a huge issue for
  53. 1:41folks who are looking at their career
  54. 1:43and they realize they're on the wrong
  55. 1:44ladder
  56. 1:45that they have been climbing the wrong
  57. 1:47ladder and so i want to talk we're going
  58. 1:48to talk about how alter egos fit into
  59. 1:50this
  60. 1:50but i have a question for you actually
  61. 1:52which is have you had to reinvent
  62. 1:54yourself and did your alter ego have to
  63. 1:56do with that
  64. 1:57um oh i've had to like anyone who's
  65. 2:00ambitious you're trying to achieve new
  66. 2:01things
  67. 2:02um you're always reinventing yourself
  68. 2:05right and that's
  69. 2:06and it's and sometimes you either do it
  70. 2:09on your
  71. 2:09like intentionally like i need to
  72. 2:11reinvent myself
  73. 2:12or the environment reinvents you just
  74. 2:15based on
  75. 2:16you know the pressure on the actual cold
  76. 2:18turns it into the diamond right not to
  77. 2:20use a
  78. 2:21a fairly played cliche but it's the
  79. 2:23truth so sometimes it's an outside-in
  80. 2:24approach and sometimes it's an
  81. 2:25inside-out approach
  82. 2:27and what i try to give people with the
  83. 2:28alter-ego
  84. 2:30the method that sits inside of the book
  85. 2:33is
  86. 2:33is an intentional inside out approach
  87. 2:37so that you can be um far more
  88. 2:40in control of the steering wheel of your
  89. 2:42life because you had just said used
  90. 2:44great one which you know they realize
  91. 2:46that they've been climbing the wrong
  92. 2:47ladder
  93. 2:48or which is really i think uh
  94. 2:51a more prescient concern for a lot of
  95. 2:53people is they want to climb that ladder
  96. 2:55but then they look at them in the mirror
  97. 2:57and they can't see
  98. 2:58that person climbing that ladder and so
  99. 3:00what i like to do
  100. 3:02is allow someone to reinvent in their
  101. 3:05own mind
  102. 3:07in a powerful way someone who's gonna
  103. 3:09climb not only climb that ladder
  104. 3:11but conquer that ladder a lot faster
  105. 3:14okay so
  106. 3:14this video is meant to empower you if
  107. 3:17you clicked on this video
  108. 3:18that meant you were meant to watch it
  109. 3:20because i want you to as
  110. 3:22todd just said i want you to take
  111. 3:23control and be intentional about the
  112. 3:25ladder that you're climbing so this is
  113. 3:26the moment
  114. 3:27to think about am i climbing the right
  115. 3:29ladder and do i have a different idea
  116. 3:31and i want to do it intentionally
  117. 3:32so what is an alter ego
  118. 3:36so um the the term actually was first
  119. 3:38coined in 44 bc by
  120. 3:40cicero who's widely known as the
  121. 3:42greatest roman statesman and philosopher
  122. 3:44to
  123. 3:45to live and um and in a letter to a
  124. 3:48friend
  125. 3:48when his friend was asking about uh just
  126. 3:51his path to success
  127. 3:53he said that the alter ego is the other
  128. 3:56i
  129. 3:56or trusted friend within that he used
  130. 4:00in order to navigate just the difficult
  131. 4:03resistance that life puts in its way
  132. 4:05and you and i both know i mean you and i
  133. 4:07are friends we
  134. 4:08both know the value of knowing each
  135. 4:11other right having allies and mentors or
  136. 4:13coaches or friends like just
  137. 4:14when when we look at all these people we
  138. 4:17just want to look at all them go
  139. 4:18quality person quality person because
  140. 4:20that means that you know it's life's a
  141. 4:22reflection that means i must be a
  142. 4:23quality person to attract these people
  143. 4:24into my life
  144. 4:26but we know the power of you know the
  145. 4:28great avengers that we come along with
  146. 4:30the
  147. 4:30the tribe that we've got around us but
  148. 4:32most people don't
  149. 4:34think about 24 hours of your day seven
  150. 4:36days a week
  151. 4:37six inches between your ears is where
  152. 4:39you always live and for a lot of people
  153. 4:41it's a it's a lonely place in their own
  154. 4:43thoughts
  155. 4:44and so the alter ego the trusted friend
  156. 4:47within
  157. 4:48is someone something some other being
  158. 4:50you to invite into your own mind
  159. 4:53to help you navigate things it's a
  160. 4:54conversation you can have with it
  161. 4:56i'll give you an example so for me um i
  162. 4:59am a uh you know i'm a coach to elite
  163. 5:03athletes and
  164. 5:04business leaders and public figures
  165. 5:06around the world we have a lot of
  166. 5:07training programs and stuff
  167. 5:08but you know when you're working with
  168. 5:10some really big egos i've gotta
  169. 5:13like knock through some pretty tough
  170. 5:14exteriors and they're there for a reason
  171. 5:16it's for protection
  172. 5:17a lot of people just want something from
  173. 5:19them and they um and they gotta put up
  174. 5:21this protective
  175. 5:23exterior so i'm busting through that and
  176. 5:25i'm a challenger personality type like
  177. 5:27i'm gonna i'm gonna in
  178. 5:28in professional world i'm gonna come at
  179. 5:30you
  180. 5:32but when i leave this door and i go out
  181. 5:34to my
  182. 5:35kids is that all that i am but when i
  183. 5:38flex the habit all day long this is a
  184. 5:40really important point for everyone to
  185. 5:41follow
  186. 5:42if you've been flexing the habit the
  187. 5:44muscle
  188. 5:45of showing up in a certain way all day
  189. 5:46long professionally
  190. 5:48we make the mistake of and this is a
  191. 5:50phrase i hear often you might hear it
  192. 5:52too just with your own stuff
  193. 5:54this is i have a hard time turning it
  194. 5:56off when i get home
  195. 5:57oh yes oh my gosh overthinking over
  196. 5:59worry
  197. 6:00can't shut it down yes yes and and for a
  198. 6:03lot of people
  199. 6:04if i've been flexing the muscle of being
  200. 6:06a challenger all day long like you know
  201. 6:08being you know breaking through some
  202. 6:10hard exteriors
  203. 6:11is that all this human being is todd
  204. 6:15that's not all that i am i've got other
  205. 6:17qualities attributes and traits that i
  206. 6:19can tap into
  207. 6:20i just didn't flex them all day long but
  208. 6:22are they still there they are
  209. 6:23so when i go out my alter ego the friend
  210. 6:26within
  211. 6:28that sits over my shoulder to watch me
  212. 6:30is mr rogers
  213. 6:31and my own father because who sits on
  214. 6:33the opposite ends of that spectrum of
  215. 6:35challenger it's mr rogers for sure
  216. 6:37but when i think about being a great dad
  217. 6:39to three little kids
  218. 6:41patience creativity fun playfulness
  219. 6:45are all things gonna help for me to show
  220. 6:48up in a better way
  221. 6:50and does that mean that i'm there i'm i
  222. 6:52show up perfectly all the time
  223. 6:53no but if it allows me i'm a performance
  224. 6:55guy if it allows me to
  225. 6:56over index 20 that's a huge win to three
  226. 6:59little kids
  227. 7:01you said something important that i want
  228. 7:03people listening to take home
  229. 7:05when i what i want you to think about is
  230. 7:06what muscle are you flexing all day
  231. 7:09is that all of your muscles so is there
  232. 7:11a muscle that you wish you were flexing
  233. 7:12more
  234. 7:13is there a part of you or a skill that
  235. 7:15you wish you could utilize more or
  236. 7:17leverage more or activate more i think
  237. 7:18that's a really interesting way to think
  238. 7:20about reinventing yourself because
  239. 7:21that means you're not only thinking
  240. 7:23about how people see you and how you see
  241. 7:24yourself
  242. 7:25but also the skills that you're using
  243. 7:27perhaps your reinvention is about
  244. 7:29altering or changing skills that you
  245. 7:31feel are underutilized that could be one
  246. 7:32kind of secret way into it
  247. 7:34i also wanted you to share you shared
  248. 7:36with me before we hopped on on uh
  249. 7:37recording
  250. 7:38um halsey's alter ego and how that was i
  251. 7:41thought it was a great example could you
  252. 7:42mind sharing that with everyone
  253. 7:44yeah so um her given name is ashley now
  254. 7:47halsey you know huge superstar today
  255. 7:51um but in a recent interview she was
  256. 7:53talking about how
  257. 7:55ashley could have never gone and done
  258. 7:58what halsey went and did
  259. 7:59ashley was too insecure she had too much
  260. 8:03past too much history that was there
  261. 8:05that caused her to doubt herself
  262. 8:07but halsey was custom built to go
  263. 8:11and win in this domain and um
  264. 8:14and what that gets to is i i say this to
  265. 8:17people all the time
  266. 8:18human beings are not oak trees an oak
  267. 8:21tree will always be an oak tree an acorn
  268. 8:23will always grow into an oak tree
  269. 8:25human beings are not trees we get to
  270. 8:27reinvent ourselves at any moment in time
  271. 8:30and you know you could be living through
  272. 8:33the narrative in your own head
  273. 8:35of a wounded individual because of stuff
  274. 8:37that happened to you when you were young
  275. 8:39you didn't get to choose that upbringing
  276. 8:40you didn't get to choose the environment
  277. 8:42that you grew up in
  278. 8:43but is that really who you are that's
  279. 8:46not
  280. 8:46who you are that's stuff that happened
  281. 8:49to this person that's been experiencing
  282. 8:51life but you can reinvent
  283. 8:53and and so there's a lot of great
  284. 8:55platitudes and cliches that are out
  285. 8:57there
  286. 8:57but i'm a performance guy i'm on the
  287. 8:58field to play with people all the time
  288. 9:00that's why i love your stuff is it's
  289. 9:01practical
  290. 9:02and it's pragmatic right like it has to
  291. 9:04be proven under the weight
  292. 9:06of practical application and so i hear
  293. 9:08people saying you know
  294. 9:10be your authentic self and be your best
  295. 9:12self it's like wonderful platitudes but
  296. 9:13what do you even mean
  297. 9:14yeah that's because none of these people
  298. 9:16have been paid money to coach people
  299. 9:18help them develop a best self develop a
  300. 9:20more authentic and real version of how
  301. 9:22they could actually perform
  302. 9:24and so for me the reason i built up my
  303. 9:26name in pro sports was
  304. 9:28i became known as the quick hit guy like
  305. 9:30i'm the guy that you called in when
  306. 9:32you were competing at flushing meadows
  307. 9:34at the us open on saturday
  308. 9:36and it was wednesday and you'd been
  309. 9:38under indexing all season long
  310. 9:40and you're in a rut but i was happy to
  311. 9:43take on that moniker
  312. 9:44wear that hat because i came in and i
  313. 9:47could work with you at the identity
  314. 9:48level because the moment you change
  315. 9:49someone's identity
  316. 9:51everything changes with it well everyone
  317. 9:53else is worried about habits and
  318. 9:54behaviors
  319. 9:55wonderful tools to have of course of
  320. 9:57course but if you want to change
  321. 9:59fast and if you want to make a change
  322. 10:02permanent
  323. 10:03change someone's identity because the
  324. 10:04way that you associate with yourself
  325. 10:07is how the world associates with you
  326. 10:09mm-hmm
  327. 10:10so changing that narrative say it again
  328. 10:13say it again the way
  329. 10:14the world is the way that you associate
  330. 10:16with yourself is how the rest of the
  331. 10:18world associates with you
  332. 10:20okay everyone who's watching i would
  333. 10:22love for you to take out a pen and paper
  334. 10:24or or if you want to you can type this
  335. 10:25too and
  336. 10:27what i want you to think about here is a
  337. 10:29couple of props we've just talked about
  338. 10:30and by the way todd in a second
  339. 10:32i'm going to ask you what do you want
  340. 10:34people to begin to explore
  341. 10:35what questions can they write for
  342. 10:36themselves sure so we already talked
  343. 10:38about
  344. 10:39what skills do you wish you're utilizing
  345. 10:41more what skills do you wish you were
  346. 10:42flexing more so i want you to write that
  347. 10:43question down
  348. 10:44leave some space you can brainstorm for
  349. 10:46it todd what else can people begin to
  350. 10:49unpack and unlock here to try to tap
  351. 10:51into an alter ego that they can use to
  352. 10:53reinvent themselves
  353. 10:54i'll give people the number one thing
  354. 10:56that causes most
  355. 10:58individuals to struggle with allowing
  356. 11:02themselves to be more creative with who
  357. 11:03they are
  358. 11:04okay and that is that we we think that
  359. 11:07having
  360. 11:07one identity and being consistent with
  361. 11:09that identity
  362. 11:11is the secret to success right there is
  363. 11:13no one authentic
  364. 11:15you vanessa there's the vanessa that's
  365. 11:17interviewing me right now
  366. 11:18and you want to be the best interview
  367. 11:20that you can be there's also vanessa
  368. 11:22who's the teacher
  369. 11:23requires some different skills right
  370. 11:25there's vanessa the mom there's vanessa
  371. 11:27the friend
  372. 11:28the quirky funny one that we sit around
  373. 11:29and we have some wine or pinot with or
  374. 11:31whatever
  375. 11:31like and those are all parts of you yeah
  376. 11:35yeah and in fact in in in the psych in
  377. 11:37the site world of psychology
  378. 11:39single cell theory was the most common
  379. 11:40theory um
  380. 11:42where they uh postulated for a long time
  381. 11:45that the people who had one single
  382. 11:47identity and acted through that identity
  383. 11:48had the lowest rates of mental health
  384. 11:50disorders
  385. 11:50anxiety and stress disorders and
  386. 11:52depression well me
  387. 11:54i know right it only happened in about
  388. 11:562008 where all of a sudden the shift
  389. 11:58happened and said wait a second
  390. 12:00the integrated self or the multiple self
  391. 12:02which is people who have and
  392. 12:04recognize that they have multiple
  393. 12:05identities that they show up with in the
  394. 12:07world because they have many roles that
  395. 12:08they play
  396. 12:09and each one they try to be very
  397. 12:11intentional with
  398. 12:12like this is who i'm being as a mom this
  399. 12:14is who i'm being as an entrepreneur or a
  400. 12:16professional
  401. 12:18or um a an athlete or whatever
  402. 12:21and they all get to pull out of me at
  403. 12:22different different sets of qualities
  404. 12:25those ones and a study just came out a
  405. 12:26year and a half ago showing that they
  406. 12:28have the lowest rates of psychological
  407. 12:29disorders
  408. 12:30multiple or um anxiety and stress
  409. 12:32disorders or depression
  410. 12:34right and so that's important for me to
  411. 12:36states so that people can look at
  412. 12:37themselves
  413. 12:38with maybe a little more care and they
  414. 12:39go i am more than just this one
  415. 12:42thing i do have a whole set of
  416. 12:45attributes and traits that are
  417. 12:46really gifted to all of us that we can
  418. 12:48tap into any one of us can tap into
  419. 12:49curiosity
  420. 12:51right you know we take these personality
  421. 12:53tests and we go oh i'm an introvert
  422. 12:54okay and i'm like here's what i know
  423. 12:56because my wife is that way she's like
  424. 12:57i'm introverted
  425. 12:58no you're introverted in certain
  426. 12:59settings here's why i know you're not
  427. 13:00introduced when you're around your three
  428. 13:02sisters and your family
  429. 13:03you are extroverted class clown
  430. 13:07so we take these labels we throw them on
  431. 13:09ourselves and we wear them across all of
  432. 13:11our roles and that's not what we should
  433. 13:12be doing so the question i would say to
  434. 13:14people is the place to start is
  435. 13:15what role or area of your life do you is
  436. 13:18most
  437. 13:18frustrating you right now or is the
  438. 13:22least
  439. 13:23fun because the the thing that really
  440. 13:26makes this alter ego concept powerful
  441. 13:28is it taps into an attitude of
  442. 13:30playfulness every single person that's
  443. 13:32watching this
  444. 13:33has already played with this idea
  445. 13:34because we did it as kids
  446. 13:36so what's the area of your life where
  447. 13:37you feel like you are most frustrated
  448. 13:39start there and we cause we don't build
  449. 13:42an alter ego for our lives
  450. 13:43right halsey built or ashley built palsy
  451. 13:46as the performer
  452. 13:49um and i mean i've got enough stories
  453. 13:51beyonce built sasha fierce
  454. 13:52as a performer even martin luther king
  455. 13:55who's the inspiration
  456. 13:57for the glasses on the book people don't
  457. 14:00realize
  458. 14:00but in the atlanta hartsfield airport if
  459. 14:02you go there to the shrine that's
  460. 14:06created for martin luther king his
  461. 14:08glasses sit inside of a little window
  462. 14:10box i share the photo all the time
  463. 14:12and it says although martin luther king
  464. 14:14didn't need glasses he had perfect
  465. 14:16vision
  466. 14:17he wore these fake glasses to step into
  467. 14:19his distinguished self
  468. 14:20and i met coretta scott king when i
  469. 14:23spoke in 2004 and she told me this whole
  470. 14:25story
  471. 14:26because i mentioned my alter ego and so
  472. 14:28he wore a pair of fake glasses
  473. 14:30to write all of his speeches in private
  474. 14:32oh my god
  475. 14:34okay so i'm a third question so you just
  476. 14:37we you added those two which i think are
  477. 14:38perfect
  478. 14:39i would also say like what's your halsey
  479. 14:42what's your mr rogers like if you had to
  480. 14:44just be playful right like this doesn't
  481. 14:45have to be
  482. 14:46anything crazy we're just talking about
  483. 14:47like playfully do you have this secret
  484. 14:49part of you that you want to develop or
  485. 14:51label or hone
  486. 14:52and name it name it just like you
  487. 14:56said mr rogers it can be a maiden name
  488. 14:57it can be a person
  489. 14:59what's if you had to pick an alter ego
  490. 15:01to go play for you
  491. 15:03in life whether that's in your
  492. 15:05conference sitting around a conference
  493. 15:06table
  494. 15:07whether that's with your kids whether
  495. 15:08that's with your friends whether it's
  496. 15:10that person you have to stand up to in
  497. 15:11your life
  498. 15:12and you can't do it what's the name of
  499. 15:13the alter ego that can't
  500. 15:15that's right um what this taps into then
  501. 15:18because one of the uh i mean we run a
  502. 15:22science-based business right so
  503. 15:23alter egos to some people sounds like
  504. 15:25okay that sounds like another
  505. 15:27like concept to possibly no it's rooted
  506. 15:29in the psychological
  507. 15:31and physiological way that our bit that
  508. 15:34our brains
  509. 15:34are structured so when you the great
  510. 15:37power of an
  511. 15:37alter ego is it helps you disassociate
  512. 15:40disassociate from the story of who
  513. 15:42vanessa
  514. 15:43is what she can be but all of a sudden
  515. 15:45halsey can go
  516. 15:46and do that that's why that's what
  517. 15:48ashley was alluding to it disassociated
  518. 15:49from her story
  519. 15:52and and the power of naming something
  520. 15:54creates
  521. 15:55form and substance in the mind now it's
  522. 15:57not just some amorphous idea
  523. 15:59it's got something even kobe bryant
  524. 16:01talked about how
  525. 16:02um the knight that the black mamba was
  526. 16:05created
  527. 16:06was for him the name he gave it the name
  528. 16:08because
  529. 16:09the attitude was always there but it
  530. 16:12wasn't until
  531. 16:13he um performed in this one game when he
  532. 16:16was going through
  533. 16:17the the whole sexual assault allegations
  534. 16:20and he was getting
  535. 16:22destroyed in the first half by tracy
  536. 16:24mcgrady who at the time was his nemesis
  537. 16:26and i think he had scored two points in
  538. 16:29the first half
  539. 16:30and he sat in the locker room and he
  540. 16:32needed to reinvent himself in that
  541. 16:34moment because
  542. 16:35that stuff that was happening outside of
  543. 16:37the court was infiltrating the court
  544. 16:40now this resonate i mean i get
  545. 16:41goosebumps because i know this about
  546. 16:43people
  547. 16:44life isn't perfect stuff permeates from
  548. 16:46one area into another right
  549. 16:48you're going through a divorce and all
  550. 16:49of a sudden it affects you here um
  551. 16:51or you're going through a difficult loss
  552. 16:53and it affects you here
  553. 16:55and so for him he's like you know i may
  554. 16:57lose everything
  555. 16:58but i will not lose basketball and he's
  556. 17:01like that's when
  557. 17:02he came up with the name the black mamba
  558. 17:04which was inspired from
  559. 17:05this scene in um the
  560. 17:08kill bill movies when a black mama snake
  561. 17:10came on and that's when the black mamba
  562. 17:12showed up and he
  563. 17:13absolutely killed the second half like
  564. 17:15even tracy mcgrady in an interview says
  565. 17:17it was a different
  566. 17:18human being that entered the court wow
  567. 17:21um and and so the naming of something is
  568. 17:25so powerful and the other thing that
  569. 17:26attaches into the reason mr rogers is
  570. 17:28such a powerful frame for me is i grew
  571. 17:29up with mr rogers i didn't just choose
  572. 17:31them because i could pull him off the
  573. 17:32shelf
  574. 17:33i have a relationship with him not only
  575. 17:35in my heart but in my head
  576. 17:36i know him well and and so
  577. 17:39why that's important psychologically is
  578. 17:42because 70 percent of our brain is
  579. 17:43dedicated to the visual cortex the
  580. 17:45visual functioning
  581. 17:46giving ourselves a model in our own mind
  582. 17:48of what we want to act into gives us a
  583. 17:50picture
  584. 17:50of how i want to show up now that's the
  585. 17:53power of that like it's
  586. 17:54it's scientific it's that's what i love
  587. 17:56about this and how fast people can shift
  588. 17:58with it yeah man
  589. 18:00okay this is an incredible hopefully
  590. 18:03you're going to end this video and
  591. 18:04you're going to start
  592. 18:05diving into all these questions to begin
  593. 18:06to start your reinvention plan i think
  594. 18:08we should each have one right and it
  595. 18:09doesn't have it can be a continuous
  596. 18:10process we don't just do this once in
  597. 18:11our life as todd started the video
  598. 18:13saying we can do this multiple times
  599. 18:15knowing that todd do you have any final
  600. 18:17piece of advice
  601. 18:18questions pushes you want to give our
  602. 18:20viewers
  603. 18:21yeah i think and with one thing because
  604. 18:23you really led into it well
  605. 18:25is um we're not cakes
  606. 18:29like we never come out fully baked
  607. 18:32the baking process is never done i just
  608. 18:35want to get into
  609. 18:37greater and greater heat i want to be
  610. 18:39able to at the end of my life go
  611. 18:41i can withstand the greatest pressure
  612. 18:44and the greatest heat
  613. 18:45because i'm constantly trying to evolve
  614. 18:50and reinvent myself right so the idea
  615. 18:52that we ever
  616. 18:53are fully done baked that we're like
  617. 18:56we're now
  618. 18:57perfect that's that's an illusion that
  619. 18:59isn't there
  620. 19:00the real people who get on with life and
  621. 19:03get to extract from it more than others
  622. 19:06they're like no no
  623. 19:07push me deeper into the oven like how
  624. 19:10can we get closer to the heat
  625. 19:12like that pursuit like just i mean and
  626. 19:14again
  627. 19:15i never thought this way i got to evolve
  628. 19:18into this
  629. 19:19i didn't start out this way i was very
  630. 19:20insecure when i started my business 20
  631. 19:22this going my 24th year wow 1997.
  632. 19:26um i was super insecure about how young
  633. 19:28i looked i was 21 i looked like i was
  634. 19:3012.
  635. 19:31who's going to listen to me if i go on
  636. 19:32stage and speak and
  637. 19:34and and so that's where my second alter
  638. 19:37ego was born
  639. 19:38which was super richard who's a blend of
  640. 19:40the guy behind me superman
  641. 19:41joseph campbell and benjamin franklin
  642. 19:44and the three
  643. 19:45traits brought together became super
  644. 19:47richard and i used
  645. 19:48a pair of fake glasses just like martin
  646. 19:50luther king
  647. 19:51as my totem in my artifact i talk in the
  648. 19:54book about
  649. 19:55um the power of a uniform the thing it's
  650. 19:57the totem that activates this thing
  651. 19:59totally um and there's a whole bunch of
  652. 20:02psychological reasons why it's important
  653. 20:04um but you know i had that challenge but
  654. 20:07now i'm like no give me more is this all
  655. 20:09you've got it's a phrase i constantly
  656. 20:10say to people and myself is this all you
  657. 20:12got
  658. 20:12covet hit last year and like seriously
  659. 20:14is this all you got i had a i had a
  660. 20:16ruptured achilles i told you that the
  661. 20:17reason i got covered in february of last
  662. 20:19year was because i ruptured my achilles
  663. 20:20went into mount sinai hospital here in
  664. 20:21new york city
  665. 20:22and i got sick um but is this all you've
  666. 20:25got
  667. 20:26so just my final thought is you're never
  668. 20:28baked
  669. 20:29just keep on baking so this is just the
  670. 20:32start my friends
  671. 20:33right all these questions this is how we
  672. 20:35begin to bake this is how we begin to go
  673. 20:37a little further into the heat
  674. 20:38we examine we look at our thoughts
  675. 20:41please please check out the book
  676. 20:43alter ego effect it's incredible if you

  682. 20:53i would just say
  683. 20:54alter ego effect and you go back to
  684. 20:56captivate and i think it
  685. 20:57makes that thing even like the two
  686. 20:59circles the venn diagram they just start
  687. 21:01overlapping
  688. 21:02and they just empower each other so this
  689. 21:04is a pleasure as always
