Full transcript
- 0:00I'm going to give every single one of
- 0:01you a solo.
- 0:04Vivian is very uncomfortable with new
- 0:06choreography. [music]
- 0:07>> Maddie is doing two solos this weekend.
- 0:09Everybody should have one solo. Aren't
- 0:11you happy?
- 0:13Abby, I think we need to talk.
- 0:14>> You're not going to ruin this day.
- 0:15>> Christi, how many times has my daughter
- 0:17beat your daughter this year?
- 0:19Coming up on Dance Moms.
- 0:21>> Moms, you are going to be performing in
- 0:24the show.
- 0:26>> [screaming]
- 0:27>> A major Broadway casting [music] agent
- 0:28is coming to my studio. My girls better
- 0:31make me look good.
- 0:32>> stop. We can stop. We can stop. What's
- 0:34going on? What's
- 0:41>> [music]
- 0:48[music]
- 0:49>> After the weekend had passed, I really
- 0:51felt like I needed to call Abby so that
- 0:53we could clear the air.
- 0:55Your daughter IS HOLDING A NATIONAL
- 0:56TITLE AND I WILL TAKE it away in a
- 0:58minute.
- 0:59I'M INTOXICATED,
- 1:01I'M DRINKING.
- 1:03Seeing how Abby gave her favorite Maddie
- 1:05two solos last week, I think I had a
- 1:07right to be upset. I think I deserve an
- 1:08apology too, but you know what? I'll be
- 1:10the bigger woman.
- 1:14Hello. You wanted to see me? Yes.
- 1:17>> [music]
- 1:17>> Abby, I came here to try to make amends
- 1:19with you.
- 1:21>> [music]
- 1:21>> I cannot let you on my property
- 1:24without
- 1:26this being [music] signed. You need to
- 1:28sign this. I need to go back to work.
- 1:29Abby, I was out of line the way I
- 1:31behaved in that room and I am willing to
- 1:33take responsibility and apologize for
- 1:36that. I don't feel that where my
- 1:38feelings were coming from were wrong
- 1:40based on things that had happened to me
- 1:41and Chloe for the last year, two years,
- 1:44three years. If you weren't happy with
- 1:45the education, you should have left
- 1:47after the first month. Chloe would not
- 1:49be a national title winner. She would be
- 1:51nothing. You're dumb for letting people
- 1:53walk out of your studio left and right.
- 1:55I was trying to be an adult and be a
- 1:57bigger person and she just wasn't having
- 1:59it.
- 2:02White trash.
- 2:04The contract Abby gave me has incredible
- 2:07stipulations in it. Things like I'm not
- 2:08to [music] walk into the den. I'm not
- 2:11allowed to walk into the dressing room.
- 2:12That I agree that I'm in the wrong.
- 2:15>> It's important that Chloe stay at the
- 2:16studio because she's a title holder.
- 2:18>> [music]
- 2:18>> If if we leave, she loses her titles.
- 2:22You know, do I sell my soul for a crown?
- 2:28Girls, let's go. Come on, ladies. Come
- 2:31on, girls. Let's go. Get in here. First,
- 2:33I want to talk about this past weekend.
- 2:36I am very disappointed.
- 2:39>> [music]
- 2:39>> Every single one of you could have done
- 2:40better in your solo. Moving on, I want
- 2:42to forget about last weekend. What's
- 2:44going to happen this weekend?
- 2:46It's the ALDC showcase. Thank you. Yes.
- 2:49The annual Abby Lee Dance Company
- 2:51showcase
- 2:53is an event that we do to showcase all
- 2:56of our competition numbers. This is when
- 2:59their families, their friends, all of
- 3:01the people that uh really don't
- 3:04understand what they do, get to come and
- 3:07see the end result. [music] And at the
- 3:09showcase, I watch every solo and every
- 3:12group number. Then I make a decision on
- 3:14what's going to go to the next regionals
- 3:16and on to nationals. We are doing the
- 3:19new number Sugar Daddies at the
- 3:20showcase. Maddie, you won the overall
- 3:23high score at the competition. Boom.
- 3:25Nia, forgot the solo, kept dancing, made
- 3:27it up, went on, finished with the music.
- 3:29Nia was assigned a little bit higher in
- 3:31the pyramid. I think Nia was very
- 3:33excited about that.
- 3:34>> Chloe did a great job. There were some
- 3:36other situations.
- 3:38You're here, I want to see that attitude
- 3:40improve on stage. Yes? You never know
- 3:42who's watching you.
- 3:44I honestly wasn't surprised by the
- 3:45pyramid this week. [music] I knew Abby
- 3:47was going to punish Chloe because of my
- 3:49behavior.
- 3:50All right, I have a few surprises during
- 3:52the showcase. I don't want to pressure
- 3:54you, but in the audience at the showcase
- 3:57is going to be an agent coming to seek
- 4:00new talent and looking for new clients
- 4:02to sign.
- 4:03Yes?
- 4:07When Abby said that there was a Broadway
- 4:08talent agent coming to the showcase, my
- 4:10heart just stopped. I mean, this is
- 4:12huge.
- 4:13Moms,
- 4:15you are going to be performing
- 4:17in the show as well.
- 4:20>> [screaming]
- 4:23>> Oh, Cathy, you're going to be the
- 4:26choreographer.
- 4:30You guys are in for trouble. Nationals
- 4:32are getting closer and closer. [music]
- 4:34With every competition, you get better
- 4:35and you get stronger. So, this showcase
- 4:38is going to be a nice [music] chance to
- 4:40entertain rather than compete, but it
- 4:42all is leading up to nationals because
- 4:44[music] we want to do what? Win.
- 4:46You got it. All right. I think Abby lays
- 4:48in bed at night and thinks up this
- 4:49stuff. We're going to be on stage like
- 4:51the hippos in Fantasia. Go ahead, you're
- 4:54dismissed. Guys, up. Sugar Daddies.
- 4:57All right, let's go. Okay, okay, you're
- 4:59like mosquitoes. Get away. Get away. Get
- 5:00away.
- 5:05Come on, girls.
- 5:07Do something with [music] your face.
- 5:09Come on. Sugar Daddies is a pop jazz
- 5:12routine and
- 5:13>> [music]
- 5:13>> they use props. They're rectangular in
- 5:16shape and they're they're big. It's just
- 5:18[music] kind of a nightmare.
- 5:20Girls, can I see some emotional
- 5:23execution?
- 5:27After the pyramid, we're sitting
- 5:29upstairs in the viewing room and it's
- 5:31very awkward and uncomfortable.
- 5:33Let's go in the hallway.
- 5:35>> I'm not going anywhere. Just one. My
- 5:36daughter's happy.
- 5:37>> Let's go in the hall. Do you want to
- 5:38talk about all the things that need to
- 5:40be talked about? Christi, I think that
- 5:43she's a beast. She is extremely jealous
- 5:47of Maddie and Melissa was definitely a
- 5:49victim at that point.
- 5:51>> I have had some time to reflect and I
- 5:53just wanted to apologize to you [music]
- 5:55three and Holly as well. It just wasn't
- 5:57my finest moment as a an adult, as a
- 6:00person or as a parent. You know, I I
- 6:02hope that we all can move past this. I
- 6:04hope you won't hold it against me. I
- 6:05made a mistake. As far as the fight goes
- 6:08with Abby and Christi, [music] I'm
- 6:09neutral. I see things Christi agrees
- 6:11with and same with Abby.
- 6:13Well, I just want to apologize to
- 6:14everybody for for that because
- 6:18>> It was just [music] awful.
- 6:20I don't even want to talk about it. I
- 6:22just wanted to put it behind us.
- 6:24The thing with Melissa [music] is she
- 6:26doesn't like confrontation. So, when you
- 6:28finally confront her, you know, Oh, no,
- 6:30everything's fine. Let's move on.
- 6:31Everything's great.
- 6:32>> So, we'll put on the nice front [music]
- 6:34and you know, underneath, I think all
- 6:36those emotions are still there. We have
- 6:37a long history [music] and I absolutely
- 6:40think Abby and Melissa owe me an
- 6:42apology. I'm the one who's apologizing,
- 6:43but [music] you know what? They were
- 6:45just as wrong as I was. I think we just
- 6:47need to move on and
- 6:48forget [music] about it.
- 6:52I think we should go down and see how
- 6:53much longer they're going to be. Okay.
- 6:57Back leg is not high enough.
- 7:02Hold it. Hold it. Hold it.
- 7:15I was [music] really happy that Abby
- 7:16chose me to choreograph a moms dance.
- 7:20My vision is that I give them very
- 7:22simple [music] choreography that is
- 7:25going to make them look good because I'm
- 7:27sure that all of them have two left
- 7:29feet.
- 7:30Hello.
- 7:32Hi.
- 7:33Hello. Are you guys ready? I don't know
- 7:35if we'll ever be ready. I was one of
- 7:37Abby's students years ago, so it's weird
- 7:39for me to be in the studio as a dancer
- 7:41again and not as a dance mom. And one
- 7:43and two, sit three, four, go five, go
- 7:45six, go seven. This is so embarrassing.
- 7:49Stay in a one, two, three, four, five,
- 7:51six, seven, eight. Hi, Holly.
- 7:54>> Hi, Cathy. You look like you're ready to
- 7:56dance. We're still missing Christi,
- 7:58obviously.
- 8:00We had a rehearsal call time that I had
- 8:02scheduled. Christi, however, was not
- 8:04there and seems like at every turn,
- 8:06there's a dramatic issue with her. Walk
- 8:09step,
- 8:09ball change.
- 8:14Gosh, I'm so glad that you decided to
- 8:15finally grace us with your presence.
- 8:19Christi came in very late. We had very
- 8:21little time to prepare for this and I
- 8:23expect you to be on time to get the job
- 8:25done. All right, so you watch what we're
- 8:26doing, Christi, and try to take notes.
- 8:29One and two, ball change. Lindy.
- 8:32>> [music]
- 8:32>> I'm not interested in dancing. My ship
- 8:35has sailed. I don't want to be on stage
- 8:37and not only do I have to perform this
- 8:39dance that I really don't want to do,
- 8:41but then I have to
- 8:43let Cathy be in charge of me. I mean, I
- 8:45have to do it or Abby's going to punish
- 8:47Chloe whether it be for me and my
- 8:48actions or just in general. And I didn't
- 8:51feel like putting a bull's eye on Chloe
- 8:52this week and that's exactly what she
- 8:53would have done. You're going to do it
- 8:55one at a time.
- 8:57I I Cathy, this is not funny to me. Like
- 8:59this is humiliating. We like to be a
- 9:01group. I know, but it's very important
- 9:03that we can show that we can go out and
- 9:05do something on our own. Shoulders. That
- 9:07could be 16 counts, too.
- 9:09I can go all the way with my leg.
- 9:11Six, seven, go. [music]
- 9:13One, two, three, four, FIVE, SIX, SEVEN.
- 9:18>> [laughter]
- 9:19>> OH MY GOD, MY MOM SAID SHE USED TO BE A
- 9:21GOOD DANCER.
- 9:22>> [laughter]
- 9:23>> Things have changed.
- 9:29>> [laughter]
- 9:30>> I never really took dance as a kid.
- 9:32Maddie makes it look so easy. I just
- 9:34thought it would be a breeze.
- 9:37Oh my god, Holly,
- 9:39you are amazing. Let's do it together.
- 9:42Holly had some African dance in college
- 9:45and she had a real easy rhythm about
- 9:48her. Like she was like a lioness. So, I
- 9:50was very excited to utilize Holly and
- 9:54what she could do.
- 9:57Oh my gosh.
- 9:59I don't want to do this.
- 10:00>> Oh, if you would just stop worrying
- 10:02about it, you might have fun. I don't
- 10:04want to have fun. I like being
- 10:05backstage. Nobody wants to see a fat ass
- 10:08old mother on stage dancing.
- 10:09>> Then you know what? This dance is here
- 10:11to try and lift your spirits and give
- 10:13you a little bit more confidence cuz
- 10:14clearly you're lacking in it.
- 10:20Morning moms, I have a big announcement
- 10:21to make.
- 10:23We have a casting associate from Telsey
- 10:25and Company coming right here to my
- 10:28studio to look at all of you. They are
- 10:31casting the new production of Annie
- 10:33that's [music] going back to Broadway.
- 10:37I think Maddie is definitely prepared
- 10:39more than [music] the other younger
- 10:40girls because she's been to several
- 10:42Broadway auditions and she does take
- 10:43voice lessons every week. Caesar is the
- 10:46representative that will be in town.
- 10:48He wants you to have a picture and
- 10:50resume. Apparently Cathy and [music]
- 10:52Holly have somewhere better to be. So
- 10:54please make sure they know what's going
- 10:55on. I don't want their kids to be left
- 10:57out because they're not here. Okay moms,
- 10:59you're dismissed and let's get back to
- 11:01Sugar Daddies. Let's go. I do want to be
- 11:04on Broadway someday [music] cuz lots of
- 11:06people will come
- 11:08just to see that one person and that
- 11:10might be me. Let's go. Places. This is
- 11:13the first time Chloe is one-on-one with
- 11:15a Broadway casting agent and I'm dying.
- 11:17It finally gives her a chance where she
- 11:19can shine and she's not being upstaged
- 11:21by Maddie. Straight arms, let's do it.
- 11:31A casting director is going to be coming
- 11:33[music] to the showcase and everybody
- 11:36was supposed to have their resume and a
- 11:38headshot prepared to give to him. Girls,
- 11:41let's go.
- 11:42The most important thing to bring to an
- 11:43audition would be your resume, your
- 11:46headshot and of course your talent.
- 11:49One, up.
- 11:53Point those feet, come on.
- 11:56To put head,
- 11:58relevé, stick [music] your butt out,
- 11:59flip, flirty, both arms reaching.
- 12:04Uh
- 12:05delete. The girls have one shot with
- 12:07this talent [music] agent and the photos
- 12:09need to be perfect. Do it again.
- 12:14Supporting foot turned [music] out,
- 12:15supporting foot turned out.
- 12:21That leg is not high enough. 10 times.
- 12:2410 times on soda.
- 12:26There's lots of things that can go wrong
- 12:27with the number when you use props.
- 12:29These Sugar Daddy lollipops can break.
- 12:32You can injure yourself with them. You
- 12:34can injure [music] somebody else next to
- 12:35you with them.
- 12:37Too far stage right, no one's going to
- 12:39see you.
- 12:42They're really heavy.
- 12:43They're really heavy?
- 12:45Yeah, it hurts their wrist. If any of
- 12:47you ever work professionally, a comment
- 12:50like that is going to get you fired.
- 12:53Deal with it. Let's go from the top. The
- 12:56Sugar Daddy props were
- 12:57>> [music]
- 12:57>> bigger than I was, so they were really
- 12:59hard to dance with.
- 13:01Left leg higher on the strut. One, up,
- 13:04two, up, one, two
- 13:15What happened?
- 13:24All by herself?
- 13:26She was right behind me and the Your
- 13:28back hit her stick. Yeah, and then it
- 13:30hit her in the mouth.
- 13:32Let me see. Is it bleeding?
- 13:35Are you all right?
- 13:36It just feels weird, huh? Cuz it's
- 13:38swollen? No, it burns. It hurts.
- 13:41Okay, well,
- 13:42stop crying and run your dance, okay?
- 13:46The show must go on.
- 13:47>> [music]
- 13:48>> Come on. Remember, you're the role model
- 13:50here.
- 13:53When we're dancing and you get hurt all
- 13:56the time, but you just have to keep
- 13:57dancing. Make sure you don't skip that
- 13:59foot.
- 14:01If I were a cheerleader, I would never
- 14:03get hit in the face with a pom [music]
- 14:04pom.
- 14:14Hello. Would you like to take a flyer
- 14:16for our dance recital this weekend? Abby
- 14:18put Christi and I in charge of the PR
- 14:20for the showcase, [music] so we're
- 14:21walking the streets handing out flyers.
- 14:23Bring all your friends. I don't know why
- 14:25Abby would put Christi and I as the PR
- 14:28people for the showcase. It has to be
- 14:30some kind of punishment.
- 14:32Abby made us come here today. She thinks
- 14:34that she can control everyone. I don't
- 14:36want to dance. I don't want to wear
- 14:37costumes. I don't want to do it. Hello.
- 14:41Oh, you guys don't know what you're
- 14:42walking into. Can we
- 14:44No, thank you. Do you want a flyer?
- 14:47Do you want a flyer?
- 14:48Just take it. Aw, I've never been
- 14:50rejected by three men at once.
- 14:53My god, it's a dance recital. There's
- 14:55rhinestones and sequins. We're in Shady
- 14:57Side. Like, come on, where's all the gay
- 14:59men? Hello. Can I give you guys a flyer
- 15:02for our daughter's dance recital this
- 15:03weekend? Do you dance?
- 15:05I get down in the club.
- 15:07Hey, me too.
- 15:09Hey Kel, let's go grab a refreshment.
- 15:12I would love to know how we got this job
- 15:14because We're being punished. Melissa's
- 15:16the friendly one. Mhm.
- 15:19Cheers.
- 15:20Ooh, that's refreshing. I'm afraid
- 15:23somebody's going to walk in here that I
- 15:24know.
- 15:26It's like, what are you doing drinking
- 15:27in the middle of the day? Yeah.
- 15:31Nobody will know any different. It looks
- 15:33like iced tea.
- 15:34Let's go get these people out here.
- 15:35Hello. Hello. Come here. Let's go.
- 15:38Hello.
- 15:40You guys look like the perfect kind of
- 15:42people we're looking for. Wouldn't you
- 15:43love to come to a dance recital this
- 15:45weekend?
- 15:46I'm actually a dancer, too, so
- 15:49Have you auditioned for anything lately?
- 15:50Uh yeah, I just called Naked Boys
- 15:51Singing.
- 15:53>> [laughter]
- 15:55>> I'm sorry.
- 15:57It's really funny.
- 16:01We're out of flyers. We're out of
- 16:03flyers? That must mean it's lunchtime.
- 16:06>> [laughter]
- 16:10>> One line on the front line, one line on
- 16:11the back line. Hey girls, how we doing?
- 16:14Chloe, let's put the hair up.
- 16:16I told her four times. You told her four
- 16:18times [music] to get it up? Push-ups,
- 16:20go. 25.
- 16:22Can't listen to your teacher?
- 16:24Every dance studio has rules. Chloe
- 16:26broke the rules.
- 16:28Rules are for safety, safety for the
- 16:30dancer, safety for those around her.
- 16:32Two, straighten your bottom knee.
- 16:35Every dancer knows you come with your
- 16:37hair up to class.
- 16:40You're not going to start tanning again
- 16:42with your hair still down.
- 16:43For real?
- 16:46Leave the room, get the hair up and
- 16:48don't come back until it's up.
- 16:58Chloe, here.
- 16:59It's all over. Why didn't you open your
- 17:01mouth and ask me?
- 17:03Ridiculous.
- 17:04Could have asked for a rubber band at
- 17:05the front desk, right? Why she was
- 17:07crying, I don't know.
- 17:10Kids should cry when their arm is broken
- 17:12and it's hanging off or somebody died.
- 17:14That's it.
- 17:15We're working on turns and it's taking
- 17:17you 20 minutes to get your hair up.
- 17:22A Broadway talent scout is coming here
- 17:24tomorrow. I don't have time to be nice
- 17:26and sweet.
- 17:32We are turning these girls into
- 17:34athletes, not pageant queens. Five, low
- 17:38arabesque turn, six.
- 17:45>> [music]
- 17:51>> Hello. Thank you. Let's go ahead and
- 17:53start to recap what we did. Me doing a
- 17:56two-minute dance on stage wasn't worth
- 17:58taking [music] the heat. I stayed in
- 17:59because I really thought about it and I
- 18:01need to pick my battles with Abby
- 18:03Miller. I know that you guys [music]
- 18:04probably remember the combination. Where
- 18:07is Holly? Where is Holly? As we're
- 18:10starting to go over our choreography,
- 18:11[music] I'm thinking there's somebody
- 18:13missing and lo and behold, Holly is not
- 18:16here.
- 18:18Hello. Hi Holly, this is This is Cathy.
- 18:21You know I'm here for rehearsal because
- 18:23we are dancing tomorrow night.
- 18:27I will not be at the showcase this
- 18:28weekend. Abby may not be happy about it,
- 18:31but I'm graduating and she's not the one
- 18:33who's just earned her doctorate.
- 18:34>> Listen, Holly, we really need to keep
- 18:36you in this number, okay? Because you
- 18:38are like the best at the walk.
- 18:43Holly is not [music] dedicated to dance
- 18:46and I think that it's very reflective on
- 18:48the way that Nia dances. How are we
- 18:50supposed to go on if she's not here? Do
- 18:52you guys realize we're dancing tomorrow
- 18:54night?
- 18:58Girls, let's go. Come on, we're going to
- 19:00be here all night.
- 19:03A major Broadway casting agent is coming
- 19:05all the way from New York City to my
- 19:07studio. This is unheard of.
- 19:10Stop talking and leave me alone. I'm
- 19:11trying to clean my desk. I'm trying to
- 19:12look at the floor.
- 19:13I have a beautiful facility. I take
- 19:15pride in this building and when people
- 19:17walk in, I want it to be spotless. I
- 19:19want it to be perfect.
- 19:21Abby freaked out when she came into the
- 19:23studio. It was a complete mess. All of
- 19:26you GIRLS, 5 MINUTES TO LEAVE ME ALONE.
- 19:28WHAT?
- 19:30YEAH, go ahead and go. This talent scout
- 19:32will be judging my girls on their
- 19:34dancing, singing and acting. [music]
- 19:36So this is a really big deal and he
- 19:38takes ordinary children and makes them
- 19:41into Broadway stars. Impress him
- 19:43so that he wants to come back for people
- 19:46years
- 19:47This could be somebody's big break. Hi.
- 19:50Hi.
- 19:51I'm so excited that the casting agent
- 19:53New York is here to see Maddie. [music]
- 19:55I think that she's going to blow him
- 19:57away.
- 19:57>> Guys, look who's here.
- 19:59Hi, how are you? I I know most of you,
- 20:02some of you know I work for Telsey and
- 20:04Company. We cast [music] Wicked, In The
- 20:06Heights, South Pacific. We were always
- 20:08looking for young talent.
- 20:09>> [music]
- 20:10>> Caesar is interesting looking. He had a
- 20:12big mohawk that went straight up and
- 20:14everyone thought it was really cool. And
- 20:16even for like you guys, we just did a
- 20:17movie where we found a little kids for
- 20:19Disney films. So, you know, you never
- 20:21know when we're going to find that next
- 20:22[music] star. I think it's a big deal
- 20:24because I would really like to be on a
- 20:26Broadway show. You know which one you're
- 20:28going to read?
- 20:29Would you mind to be yourself? And I
- 20:30know I shouldn't like but and I know I
- 20:32shouldn't like but
- 20:33>> It's understandable that the children
- 20:34would be nervous. This is a big time
- 20:36casting agent. I mean, this is huge. For
- 20:39him to come to Pittsburgh and be in my
- 20:40studio, I was a nervous wreck. An 8 and
- 20:431/2 by 11. Your mom has her doctorate,
- 20:45measure it. I specifically said don't
- 20:47bring me an 8 and 1/2 by 11 piece of
- 20:49paper. Before the casting director came,
- 20:51Abby just exploded. It just added
- 20:53[music] so much stress to everyone.
- 20:55Everybody was nervous about the audition
- 20:56to begin with and then she just flipped
- 20:58out so it just made everybody on edge.
- 21:00My legs won't stop shaking. My
- 21:03I'll call the list below.
- 21:06Right, we're ready to begin.
- 21:08Let's go. Chloe. [music] Abby made Chloe
- 21:11go in first because she's her guinea
- 21:12pig. You know, she wanted her to go in,
- 21:14she wanted her to see everything that
- 21:16went on [music]
- 21:17so she could go out and give the other
- 21:18kids notes.
- 21:19>> Chloe, you're fine. Go. Chloe, don't
- 21:22cry.
- 21:24Stop crying.
- 21:30Hey, how are you? I'm good. How are you?
- 21:31Good, what's your name? Chloe. Hey
- 21:33Chloe, nice to meet you.
- 21:34>> I've never danced in front of a Broadway
- 21:36agent before
- 21:37and I really want to do good for Miss
- 21:39Abby and my mom.
- 21:42I hope Chloe does great in front of the
- 21:44casting director. She has a a cute
- 21:45personality, you know, a talented dancer
- 21:48but sometimes, you know, when the
- 21:50pressure's on, I I have seen Chloe
- 21:52either rise to the occasion or kind of
- 21:53crumble under the pressure. So, you
- 21:55know, it's always a toss-up.
- 22:01Good job. Cool, Chloe. Thank you. Thank
- 22:04you. Nia, let's go. It's really scary
- 22:07auditioning for [music] the first time.
- 22:09I wish my mom were here.
- 22:10>> Do you sing?
- 22:11Um, a little bit.
- 22:18I was doing my best but I just got
- 22:20nervous.
- 22:28Let's stop. We can stop. We can stop. We
- 22:29can stop. We can stop. Just stop. Yeah.
- 22:32Brooke and Paige [music] are performing
- 22:33in front of Caesar and I'm a nervous
- 22:35wreck. We have not had a lot [music] of
- 22:37time to prepare. Abby's on a rampage. I
- 22:39just hope that they're performing okay
- 22:41for Caesar.
- 22:41>> Are you Paige's sister? Yes. How is it
- 22:43dancing with your sister? She gets
- 22:45rather annoying. She does? I'm really
- 22:48nervous [music] because he's a real
- 22:49Broadway casting agent. Take a Take a
- 22:52breath before you start. If I eat one
- 22:54more brussels sprouts, I'm never
- 22:55cleaning my room again. I'm going on
- 22:57strike. Try to bring your eyes up more
- 22:58so I I can make a
- 23:00>> [clears throat]
- 23:00>> so I can see you. Just cuz I
- 23:02This is what I'm seeing right now. I am
- 23:04very disappointed in my girls at the
- 23:05audition. It should have been a piece of
- 23:07cake for them. But instead, they got in
- 23:10there and acted like
- 23:11they had no idea what they were doing in
- 23:13front of Caesar. Listen to what I'm
- 23:14telling you and this is not Abby Lee
- 23:16Miller's problem. [music] This is your
- 23:17school teacher's problem.
- 23:19You didn't read the sentence. Do you
- 23:21have reading comprehension at school?
- 23:23This is way beyond the realm of dance
- 23:25teacher.
- 23:27Abby got mad at the girls for the
- 23:29reading comprehension but she always
- 23:31says dance needs to come [music] before
- 23:32school. So, I kept saying our girls
- 23:34don't even go to school. They miss
- 23:36school all the time for dance. McKenzie,
- 23:37do you want to sing? You're going to
- 23:38sing, honey. But honey, why? I don't
- 23:41want to sing.
- 23:42Are you going to sing, McKenzie? Then go
- 23:44in the car. Get the keys, sit in the
- 23:46car.
- 23:46But you're That's why we're here to
- 23:48sing. I spend all this money for you to
- 23:50sing every week. Uh-uh.
- 23:57Come here. You have to sing or Abby's
- 23:59going to flip out. Oh my god.
- 24:01McKenzie, come here. Where's Vivi-Anne?
- 24:04No matter what they ask you, yes.
- 24:08Put the S on it. Let me hear it. Yes.
- 24:10Yes. Can you sing?
- 24:13Yes. Can you dance? Yes. Hey ladies, how
- 24:16are
- 24:16>> This is McKenzie Ziegler and this is
- 24:18Vivi-Anne. McKenzie.
- 24:20Can I take your picture?
- 24:22Have fun, okay?
- 24:33I don't know why everybody else was
- 24:34stressing. I thought that Vivi did
- 24:36great. I have a question. Do either of
- 24:38you sing? McKenzie, do you want to sing
- 24:40a little bit?
- 24:41Yeah. No?
- 24:42You can sing anything. You If you don't
- 24:44want to sing, you don't have to.
- 24:45You don't want to? Didn't we just have a
- 24:47little chat in the other room about if
- 24:49you ask you anything, you say yes.
- 24:51I'll tell you what, your mother, her
- 24:53money that she spends on voice lessons
- 24:57Yeah, Abby can just I I appreciate you
- 24:59bringing them in. Just if you can step
- 25:00out just cuz they get nervous. Next time
- 25:02I see you, you're going to sing for me,
- 25:03right? You promise? Here, McKenzie goes
- 25:06into an audition with the biggest
- 25:07casting agent in New York City and
- 25:09McKenzie wouldn't sing. I was very
- 25:11frustrated because I pay for her to get
- 25:13voice lessons every week. McKenzie, we
- 25:15just went over it. You just sang it in
- 25:17there.
- 25:18No more.
- 25:19Not paying.
- 25:23Okay, kids. Okay. Okay, walk away from
- 25:25me, please.
- 25:29Maddie.
- 25:43Shake it out. I know you I know you're
- 25:45nervous. Just breathe. Breathe. So,
- 25:47don't be so nervous. You just come in,
- 25:49have fun, be yourself, okay? Thank you
- 25:51so much, Maddie.
- 25:51>> Thank you.
- 25:55Bye-bye. Good night. Good night. We'll
- 25:57see you at the showcase. I was not
- 25:59pleased with my girls' audition. They
- 26:01need to step it up and bring their A
- 26:03game right onto that stage when Caesar
- 26:05comes to see the performance. What
- 26:08What?
- 26:09Singing?
- 26:10What?
- 26:11Dancing?
- 26:14Oh, don't cry, Maddie.
- 26:17Go out here now. We're not crying.
- 26:18Absolutely not.
- 26:22There were so many things that I could
- 26:23have done better. I wish [music] my mom
- 26:25could have been here.
- 26:27My head hurts. My stomach hurts bad.
- 26:33>> [music]
- 26:38>> Oh my gosh, look at this place. This
- 26:41place is adorable.
- 26:43Melissa's taking me to a little boutique
- 26:45that has jewelry that we're going to be
- 26:47able to use for our costumes. Do you own
- 26:49this place? Yes. Oh my gosh, you need to
- 26:51franchise it to Ohio? I don't think that
- 26:53[music] Melissa is at my level of style.
- 26:56But she's the only one that volunteered
- 26:59to go shopping with me today. We have um
- 27:01costumes for this recital that we're in.
- 27:03>> So, this is nice cuz it's going to
- 27:05camouflage everybody's hips, you know,
- 27:07especially Christi because she's got a
- 27:08big butt. And um
- 27:10>> [laughter]
- 27:12>> she's not here to defend herself.
- 27:13>> I love her handbags and I so love the
- 27:15way she dresses. She looks so cute every
- 27:17time I see her. This is really cute and
- 27:19look at this. This looks like me. That
- 27:21looks like me. That totally looks like
- 27:23you. I am the handbag queen. I need to
- 27:26stay in here and look around. I really
- 27:28do.
- 27:28I have time to brighten up.
- 27:31Look at that. I don't care about the
- 27:32rehearsal right now. I'd rather buy
- 27:34handbags. Yay, we'll order I'd rather
- 27:36buy handbags.
- 27:37I would say next to the dance studio,
- 27:39that shopping is like my all-time hobby.
- 27:42>> [music]
- 27:42>> When
- 27:44I'm shopping with people and they're
- 27:46done, I've got four more hours to go in
- 27:48high heels. My bunko friends call me the
- 27:51purse
- 28:03We only have a one number change.
- 28:06>> It's our annual dance company showcase
- 28:08and it's every mother's nightmare.
- 28:10This dress rehearsal and in the
- 28:11showcase, it's insane. I mean, we're
- 28:13running down the hallway, bobby pins are
- 28:15flying, kids are out of breath, people
- 28:17are frustrated and upset. It's madness.
- 28:18>> Thanks.
- 28:21Okay, places, girls. Let's do this
- 28:23again.
- 28:24The showcase week is really more
- 28:26stressful than the competition because
- 28:28everybody is doing every number. We do a
- 28:31dress rehearsal all day and during the
- 28:34dress rehearsal, I call the show. I'm
- 28:36calling the curtains. I'm calling the
- 28:37sound. I'm calling the lights. I'm
- 28:39calling who enters, who exits. So, I sit
- 28:41up in the booth, I watch the show from
- 28:43the top and I control everything that's
- 28:45going on. And we have to stop and start
- 28:47and stop and start to make sure it's
- 28:48right. If everybody's doing their job,
- 28:51things go off without a hitch. Christi,
- 28:53I need you in 2 minutes.
- 28:55Can you tell me how soon it is to Honey
- 28:56Bun?
- 28:58No, stage left. Stage left. Stage left.
- 29:00>> [music]
- 29:00>> Go.
- 29:04Okay. Come on, girls.
- 29:07I am behind schedule already. You need
- 29:09to be on stage, ready to go. That's what
- 29:11a call time is. Ready to dance, hair and
- 29:14makeup, not just walking in the door.
- 29:16Yes?
- 29:18Nia, where is your mother? She's at
- 29:19work.
- 29:20Abby.
- 29:21She's been at work all weekend and she's
- 29:23not dancing today in the moms' dance.
- 29:26She's not? No.
- 29:28Cathy, I know you're upset.
- 29:29>> I'm a little upset because I had to
- 29:31re-patinate and I'm not sure that we are
- 29:34totally comfortable with it.
- 29:35I have a brilliant idea.
- 29:37Would you please do the honors? Dance
- 29:39with Oh, come on.
- 29:42No, actually insurance-wise, I can't.
- 29:44There was no way that I could have
- 29:46stepped on stage,
- 29:47>> [music]
- 29:47>> and then still queued everybody for what
- 29:49they needed to do. Plus, I don't do my
- 29:51own choreography, let alone somebody
- 29:53else's. And remember, we have an agent
- 29:55in the audience. So, if you think you're
- 29:57fabulous,
- 29:58then be fabulous again.
- 30:01If you weren't fabulous, let them see
- 30:03what you can do.
- 30:05I'm so excited that the casting agent
- 30:06from New York is here to see Maddie. I
- 30:08think that she's going to blow him away,
- 30:10and maybe he'll see me in the mom dance
- 30:12and cast us in something together.
- 30:15Safety first, and no bare feet.
- 30:22SWITCH HER. SWITCH HER. SWITCH HER.
- 30:28>> [music]
- 30:36>> I'm really freaked out about these cuz
- 30:37they're
- 30:38a mess. Oh my god, they're a mess.
- 30:40>> [music]
- 30:40>> Abby told us that the girls in the Sugar
- 30:42Daddies dance needed to have a lollipop
- 30:45prop as a prop, [music]
- 30:46and it was an issue from the get-go. She
- 30:49gave us something that was awful to work
- 30:52with. They kept breaking.
- 30:55What?
- 30:56Oh, it's in my
- 30:57pants.
- 31:09Can you hold that right there for a
- 31:10second? If we had straight pins, we
- 31:12could pin that in. As far as being the
- 31:14studio owner of Candy Apples Dance
- 31:16Center, we would never ever go to dress
- 31:19rehearsal, let alone the performance,
- 31:21and our props would not be done. [music]
- 31:23They are done weeks beforehand.
- 31:30But I am sick [music] and tired of
- 31:32policing them about every little thing.
- 31:34Can't their mothers do anything right?
- 31:36Where Where is the adult in the
- 31:38situation? You know guys, [music]
- 31:40everybody thinks I'm the one at the last
- 31:41minute. These have been done. I told
- 31:44your children to take them on Friday
- 31:45night and pitch in [music] and get them
- 31:47done. All I need these mothers to do is
- 31:49make sure their daughters are on stage
- 31:51with props.
- 31:54Easy, right? No, not with these mothers.
- 31:57It's always something.
- 32:08Today is it.
- 32:10Everybody's worked really hard. This is
- 32:12the showcase.
- 32:14You know what? I I need you to rotate to
- 32:15give me that shiny side out.
- 32:17The good news is Caesar is here to see
- 32:20the performance. So, he is going to get
- 32:22to see them on stage.
- 32:24Doing the annual showcase is stressful
- 32:26enough, but then having a Broadway agent
- 32:28in the audience,
- 32:30it's like my head's going to explode. I
- 32:31just want my kids to make an impression.
- 32:36>> [music]
- 32:37>> And now, the Abby Lee Dance Company
- 32:40proudly presents We Love to Dance.
- 32:45>> [applause and music]
- 32:48>> Two minutes, call everyone. We have two
- 32:49minutes until we go on stage.
- 32:55I use the showcase as a viable way to
- 32:59see what we're going to spend money on
- 33:01to take to nationals. When I sit in the
- 33:03light [music] booth, I see the overall
- 33:05picture that I don't normally get to see
- 33:07at a competition. So, I really get a
- 33:09great view of who's on, who's off, who
- 33:12needs private lessons, who doesn't, and
- 33:14what numbers really are going to do well
- 33:16at nationals.
- 33:19The moms are next. The moms are next.
- 33:21Can we Can we talk through the dance?
- 33:23Yes, let's talk through the dance. At
- 33:25this point, I am so nervous. [music] I'm
- 33:26a nervous wreck backstage. By the way,
- 33:28moms are next. Okay, we're we're going
- 33:30to just talk through it.
- 33:30>> need to be backstage? Oh, no, wait.
- 33:33No, this dance is over. Crap.
- 33:38We step out on stage and the lights hit
- 33:40us, and I'm blinded, and I'm in the
- 33:41middle of my worst nightmare. I have
- 33:43dreams about stuff like this. I don't
- 33:45want to do this. Ugh. We're walking out.
- 33:51>> [applause]
- 33:54>> That lass has class. [music]
- 33:57This chick is hip.
- 34:01And if she takes you on her ride,
- 34:03[music] it's a real [singing] crazy
- 34:05trip. Those lips, those hips,
- 34:09beyond compare,
- 34:12that sway so gently as they twist.
- 34:18The moment [music]
- 34:19that she
- 34:20passed my way.
- 34:23But when she [music] smiled, she said
- 34:27She changed the dance. I pretty much
- 34:29took center stage, and I [music]
- 34:32improvised, but I think that the moms
- 34:34probably should have expected that being
- 34:37a dance teacher, I was going to put some
- 34:39of my own thing into it to jazz it up.
- 34:41They should have expected that, and if
- 34:43they didn't, then they got caught with
- 34:44their pants down.
- 34:46She's doing a solo out there.
- 34:48WHAT IS SHE DOING?
- 34:53She changed the dance. She's doing a
- 34:55solo out there.
- 34:57What is she doing?
- 34:59>> [music]
- 35:04>> She's trying to upstage everyone.
- 35:07>> [music and singing]
- 35:20[laughter]
- 35:22[cheering]
- 35:26>> Cathy was in her little like candy apple
- 35:29heaven.
- 35:32I'm going to kick out music. Cathy used
- 35:34us so she could audition for the
- 35:36Broadway talent scout. Good luck to you,
- 35:38Cathy. I hope you enjoy playing Auntie
- 35:39Mame on Broadway.
- 35:42I'm not a dancer.
- 35:44Guess what? I'm a proud mom. Cathy knew
- 35:46that Caesar was in the audience, and she
- 35:47made us look like idiots out there.
- 35:49Mom.
- 35:50We have four lollipops. We have five
- 35:52kids. What are we doing?
- 35:53>> No, Maddie. Cuz she's right in the
- 35:54middle. Are they backstage? Yes, [music]
- 35:55they're backstage.
- 35:57I really don't think that anybody's
- 35:58going to have an issue with Maddie not
- 36:00having a lollipop cuz it looks like
- 36:02she's not supposed [music] to because
- 36:03there's two girls on each side, and then
- 36:05Maddie's in the middle.
- 36:06>> Listen, Maddie does not have a pop. Yes,
- 36:09there's only four, so
- 36:10Go. She's coming.
- 36:14>> [applause]
- 36:21[music]
- 36:31[music]
- 36:48>> Apparently, one of the Sugar Daddy
- 36:49lollipops broke or [music] something.
- 36:51So, of course, the special one in the
- 36:53dance who doesn't have to dance with the
- 36:54giant stick is Maddie [music] because
- 36:56she's the center, and she's the special
- 36:59one with no props. So, naturally, your
- 37:00eyes go to her. That's the way things
- 37:02go.
- 37:05>> [music]
- 37:12[cheering]
- 37:13[applause]
- 37:15>> Obviously, Maddie stood out because she
- 37:17didn't have a lollipop, but I think she
- 37:19really made the dance because she really
- 37:21used her facial expressions, and I think
- 37:23she was just adorable in the dance.
- 37:35>> [music]
- 37:38>> I was a little nervous to perform in
- 37:41front of Caesar.
- 37:44I just wanted to make sure that I knew
- 37:46my dance and I remembered my dance.
- 37:49>> [singing]
- 37:51>> I honestly don't [music] remember how
- 37:53well I did because I was so nervous.
- 37:59>> [applause]
- 38:00[music]
- 38:04>> Miss Abby says that the New York agent
- 38:06is looking for girls to put on Broadway.
- 38:09I think it's a big deal because I would
- 38:11really like to be on a Broadway show.
- 38:46>> [applause]
- 38:51[music]
- 38:52>> Caesar Rocha, an agent from Telsey and
- 38:56Company Casting, was in the house
- 38:59tonight.
- 39:01>> [music]
- 39:02>> Having Caesar come here was a great
- 39:04honor. It was fun. It was exciting.
- 39:06[music]
- 39:07I was thrilled to have him here. Hi. Hey
- 39:09girls, good job.
- 39:12You guys are so good. Congratulations.
- 39:14You were so good. Thank you.
- 39:16>> Hi, congratulations. Thank you. You guys
- 39:17are so good. Come with me, Maddie. She's
- 39:19going to chat with Maddie over here for
- 39:20a second.
- 39:22Can I come?
- 39:22Yeah, of course. You want to come? Let's
- 39:24go here.
- 39:27Coming from New York, Maddie's a star.
- 39:30Maddie is It's unreal how good she is,
- 39:32and she's the face on stage. All the
- 39:33girls are very good, but Maddie just
- 39:34stood out for me. She has that glimmer,
- 39:36that sparkle. I would love like if
- 39:37you're ever in New York, just come in
- 39:39and like let me know you guys are there,
- 39:41and I would love to like just chat so
- 39:43the office can get to meet you. And like
- 39:44I said, we're doing a bunch of stuff
- 39:45with kids now, so it'd be great. And
- 39:46just like keep in touch. And I can see
- 39:48her on stage, I can see her on
- 39:49television, I can see her as one of the
- 39:51kid actors that we see in New York all
- 39:52the time. Her picture actually was
- 39:53great, so that's good. It's old, but
- 39:55Abby wanted that one.
- 39:57As soon as we found [music] out there
- 39:58was a talent agent from Talent Ink
- 39:59Company coming, we knew that the focus
- 40:01was going to be on Maddie. And I know
- 40:03that Abby probably promoted her before
- 40:05anybody else. She's so good. She's so
- 40:08good. She's just She's unreal. She's
- 40:10smart. Yeah, and to take a a strong
- 40:12dancer amongst the other girls. And
- 40:13naturally when he came out and he wanted
- 40:14to talk to somebody the talent he pulls
- 40:16aside is Maddie. And [music]
- 40:19I don't know, what did you say? You said
- 40:21you're not upset, but it hurts. Yeah.
- 40:23Yeah.
- 40:24>> [music]
- 40:24>> Maddie, you look beautiful on stage.
- 40:26Thanks. I knew Caesar would love her.
- 40:28It's kind of a given. And she has a cute
- 40:30little personality, she's not a brat.
- 40:31Christi is jealous of my 8-year-old
- 40:33daughter and I think it's totally
- 40:35ridiculous. It's because [music] my kid
- 40:36is the star. She is the most talented
- 40:38girl there and Abby knows that she has a
- 40:40future.
- 40:41I don't know how much longer I can put
- 40:43up with Abby. The whole Broadway casting
- 40:45agent thing was total bull. We all know
- 40:47why this guy came in and it was for her
- 40:48precious little Maddie, no one else. I
- 40:51might have agreed to play by Abby's dumb
- 40:52little rules, but no more. I'm not
- 40:55keeping my mouth shut and it's on.
- 40:56[music]
- 40:57Thank you. Thank you. It was nice to
- 40:59meet you.
- 40:59>> you, too. Nice to meet you, Maddie.
