- 0:01ABBY (VOICEOVER): Previously on "Dance Moms"--
- 0:02We have a new member of the team.
- 0:03Asia will be joining the Abby Lee Dance Company.
- 0:06I do not think there is enough competition among you.
- 0:08CHRISTI: Well, doesn't it make you nervous
- 0:10at all that last week Abby really didn't want Kenzie to do
- 0:13the group, and then this week she brings in someone that's
- 0:15her age and gives her a solo?
- 0:17The top Energy Junior Small Group is entry 124-A,
- 0:22"Machine Lines."
- 0:23[cheering and applause]
- 0:25ABBY: Do you think I've given up my whole life to deal
- 0:28with that piece of crap?
- 0:30No!
- 0:31She is dirt under my feet!
- 0:33ABBY (VOICEOVER): Coming up on "Dance Moms"--
- 0:35We're doing a patriotic number.
- 0:37This is about the politics--
- 0:39CHRISTI: Of dance. - --of dance.
- 0:40ABBY: Politics is life.
- 0:41It is about who you know.
- 0:43CHRISTI: Maddie and Chloe are competing against each other
- 0:45at this competition.
- 0:46ABBY: Now you realize you're up against Chloe.
- 0:48I mean, Asia comes in from out of town--
- 0:50what do I do with Asia--
- 0:52right when Mackenzie is injured.
- 0:53She doesn't want to let Asia take her spot.
- 0:56Kendall, you're chasing her!
- 0:58The kid is a brat!
- 1:00There are brats in there, and Kendall's not one of them!
- 1:02HOLLY: I don't care what you say or what you don't say,
- 1:04so let's get that clear.
- 1:06ABBY: Today you will be voting on Maddie or Chloe.
- 1:10May the best man win.
- 1:11[theme music]
- 1:13(SINGING) Get up!
- 1:14Get on the floor!
- 1:16My world is with my girls, living on the dance floor.
- 1:24[music playing]
- 1:30Well, look at you, the first one in.
- 1:33Wow.
- 1:35I love that your child and you are the first ones in the door.
- 1:38JILL: I don't like Kristie Rae.
- 1:39She's been here just a short period of time,
- 1:41and she's already positioning herself to be Abby's favorite.
- 1:45ABBY: Congratulations, Asia.
- 1:46It was your first time competing with the Abby Lee Dance
- 1:49Company, and you were the big winner.
- 1:52[applause]
- 1:55All right.
- 1:57Last week, Cathy got the only perfect score given.
- 2:00It was horrible.
- 2:01How come four strangers that don't dance together
- 2:06on a daily basis, that aren't taught by the same teacher,
- 2:10come together and tell the story and connect with each other?
- 2:13[music playing]
- 2:21You're all together every single day.
- 2:23I didn't see that connection.
- 2:26I don't think some of you want to be here.
- 2:28And I certainly don't think any of you work hard enough.
- 2:35The pyramid today-- first, Mackenzie.
- 2:41Mackenzie, you're injured.
- 2:43You didn't dance.
- 2:44You stayed home.
- 2:45MELISSA: Mackenzie hurt her foot.
- 2:47She just has an overuse injury.
- 2:49She just has to rest.
- 2:50And next we have Brooke.
- 2:55You are 15 years old.
- 2:57We all make choices.
- 2:58If you want to work hard you'll get better.
- 3:02Next, Chloe.
- 3:05Chloe, you were part of a trio.
- 3:08That trio should have won.
- 3:09[music playing]
- 3:10It was second.
- 3:11You fell out of the turns early.
- 3:12You hit the floor before everybody else.
- 3:14CHRISTI: I think the only way that Chloe will ever make it
- 3:17to the top of the pyramid again is if she may be reincarnates
- 3:20as Anna Pavlova.
- 3:21And next, Kendall.
- 3:25You were also part of a trio that came in second.
- 3:29And now, Maddie.
- 3:33Maddie, you were a part of the trio, too.
- 3:36What went wrong?
- 3:38MELISSA: Maddie's fourth on the pyramid and Abby
- 3:40said, you know, you were part of the losing trio.
- 3:43I thought they were fabulous.
- 3:46Next, Paige.
- 3:49KELLY: I'm glad that Paige is moving her way up the pyramid.
- 3:51With me behaving myself and not fighting with Abby,
- 3:55it's paying off for my kids.
- 3:56Paige, if I give you the responsibility
- 3:59to be part of the group number, then work harder.
- 4:05And next I have Nia.
- 4:09Nia, you've been flying under the radar.
- 4:11You're here because you're like Switzerland.
- 4:17HOLLY: Being second on the pyramid is a big deal.
- 4:19And I think Abby stole Nia's joy by saying she got it
- 4:23by flying under the radar.
- 4:24I mean, that's defeating.
- 4:27And next, on top of the pyramid, is Asia.
- 4:30[music playing]
- 4:34ABBY: Asia, you were our big winner.
- 4:36This is a reflection of your score, not your legs
- 4:41or your feet.
- 4:44Those things all need a lot of attention.
- 4:49Understood?
- 4:51KRISTIE: This week, Asia brought it
- 4:53and now we're on top of the pyramid.
- 4:55Mackenzie, what's wrong?
- 4:57ABBY: You feel dizzy?
- 4:59All right.
- 5:00Why don't you take a seat?
- 5:01OK?
- 5:02You want to keep that foot up.
- 5:05Mackenzie has to stay off of her foot.
- 5:08And you were her opposite, and now you don't have an opposite.
- 5:13So what do I do with Asia?
- 5:15JILL: Asia and Mackenzie are so much smaller than everybody
- 5:18else on this team, that they both need to be in this group
- 5:22number to offset one another.
- 5:24They're both like two cute little bookends.
- 5:26ABBY: So you're going to come into the group
- 5:28and you're going to learn it.
- 5:30But I don't know if you're in it or not.
- 5:31KRISTIE: It's unfortunate that Kenzie's hurt right now.
- 5:34So I'm waiting patiently to see if she's going to get a chance
- 5:37to be in this group this week.
- 5:38We're doing a patriotic number.
- 5:41It's called "Free the People."
- 5:44We have the conservatives and the liberals.
- 5:47Clearly, the Abby Lee Dance Company is not a democracy.
- 5:51Abby is a totalitarianist.
- 5:52Now, this week we're going to Philadelphia.
- 5:56We are attending Powerhouse Dance Competition.
- 5:59After last weekend, I need to put my best foot forward.
- 6:05This whole fair thing, with trying to spread it all around,
- 6:09no.
- 6:10Obviously, Asia, you get another solo.
- 6:15The name of your solo is "Ready for War."
- 6:21so, Maddie, you have another solo this week.
- 6:23I think it's strange that Paige is higher than Maddie
- 6:26on the pyramid, but yet Maddie gets the solo and Paige
- 6:29doesn't.
- 6:30The name of your song is "I'm Trying."
- 6:35Chloe, you will be doing a solo this week.
- 6:40The name of your routine is "Am I Here to Stay?"
- 6:44CHRISTI: Maddie and Chloe are competing against each other.
- 6:47And this is the first time in months these two are going
- 6:49to go head-to-head.
- 6:50JILL: Maddie is the consistent winner,
- 6:52but I know Chloe is really hungry to win.
- 6:55With their rivalry, anything could happen.
- 6:58ABBY: All right.
- 6:59Moms, you're dismissed.
- 7:01Girls, spread apart.
- 7:01Let's warm up.
- 7:05Go ahead.
- 7:06Come here, girls.
- 7:09So why did Mackenzie start crying, though,
- 7:12all of a sudden, in the middle of pyramid?
- 7:14Did you notice the timing?
- 7:18CHRISTI: Oh.
- 7:19KELLY: Mackenzie started crying as soon as Asia was announced
- 7:22that she was at the top of the pyramid.
- 7:24I think she's intimidated.
- 7:25CHRISTI: It didn't even register on my radar.
- 7:27Melissa's daughters can't be out-danced.
- 7:30So rather than have Asia and Mackenzie go head-to-head,
- 7:34Melissa pulls Kenzie from the dance.
- 7:36Smart, Melissa.
- 7:37ABBY: So this is loosely based on the political system.
- 7:42Every time we go to a dance competition
- 7:44I hear people toss around the saying,
- 7:47"Well, this is political.
- 7:49Oh, well, she's going to win because it's all politics,
- 7:52that it's maybe me who you know."
- 7:54Well, then I guess politics is life.
- 7:58Because it is about who you know.
- 8:00Hey, whatever it takes.
- 8:02Right?
- 8:02[laughter]
- 8:04That's what this is about.
- 8:05That is true.
- 8:06This is about politics--
- 8:07CHRISTI: Of dance.
- 8:08--of dance.
- 8:09The ALDC is very political.
- 8:12We are all campaigning all the time
- 8:14to keep our daughters on top.
- 8:15[music playing]
- 8:16(SINGING) I can feel it--
- 8:19ABBY: This week we're who a routine called
- 8:21"Free the People."
- 8:22It's a big patriotic number, and I
- 8:25think it's important for kids today
- 8:27to realize that they have a voice.
- 8:30Asia, pay attention to what they're doing.
- 8:32Yes?
- 8:33I just gave you that one step to work on,
- 8:34but you need to pay attention to this group.
- 8:36Originally, this routine had four girls
- 8:38on the conservative side and four girls on the liberal side.
- 8:43And with that, I'm going to let you go.
- 8:45But with Mackenzie out on injured reserve,
- 8:48I don't know what to do with Asia.
- 8:50So I put Asia to work on her solo.
- 8:53Rosie the Riveter.
- 8:54Say that.
- 8:55Rosie the Riveter.
- 8:56Do you know who that is?
- 8:57Yeah.
- 8:58She's going to be Rosie the Riveter.
- 9:00Rosa what?
- 9:01Rosie the Riveter.
- 9:02You know, the girl from war war ads.
- 9:05So you need to be strong.
- 9:07Give me the arm.
- 9:08Woo!
- 9:09Look at that.
- 9:11Asia is doing a hot, sassy, jazz routine
- 9:14it's called "Ready for War," and it's based on the character
- 9:17Rosie the Riveter.
- 9:18[music playing]
- 9:19Five, six, seven, eight.
- 9:22Just keep it-- head and head and head and head.
- 9:27Yes.
- 9:28I think Asia, she could have been Rosie the Riveter.
- 9:31She is one tough cookie.
- 9:33All right, you're finished.
- 9:35I'm going to let you go, Rosie.
- 9:36Send in your co-worker.
- 9:41OK, Chloe.
- 9:42Chloe, the name of this is "Am I Here to Stay?"
- 9:46I mean, really, are you here to stay?
- 9:48Are you going to come out an amazing dancer?
- 9:51Time will tell.
- 9:53Chloe is holding a national title.
- 9:55She needs to dig down deep to beat Maddie.
- 9:58[music playing]
- 9:59(MUSIC PLAYING) Every time I think about the day you left me
- 10:02here, I feel so cold inside.
- 10:05CHRISTI: Chloe is the underdog.
- 10:07Abby plays favorites, and Chloe is certainly not one of them.
- 10:09OK, Chloe, that's all we're going to do.
- 10:11And, like, let that really hang.
- 10:14And then you can get straight again.
- 10:19Nice. Better.
- 10:20All right. Chloe, that's it.
- 10:21We have to wrap it up.
- 10:22I'll see you tomorrow.
- 10:23All right, good night.
- 10:25[music playing]
- 10:27All right, Maddie.
- 10:28Maddie has a solo titled "I'm Trying."
- 10:31She is trying to be the overall first place high score.
- 10:35Chloe is holding a national title.
- 10:37That's all Maddie wants.
- 10:39So is Chloe and Maddie compared a lot?
- 10:41Is that how it works?
- 10:43Last year it was, yes.
- 10:44JILL: They're her stars.
- 10:45They score the highest.
- 10:46CHRISTI: Abby doesn't give Chloe a whole lot of credit
- 10:49any longer.
- 10:49Why do you think that is?
- 10:51Because Abby hates me.
- 10:52But, see, I think she gives Chloe a ton of opportunities.
- 10:55I swear, I do.
- 10:57HOLLY: Abby's making it clear that the pressure's on Chloe
- 10:59to beat Maddie this week.
- 11:00Clearly, she's not on the same level plane field
- 11:02because Christi's not Melissa.
- 11:04Now you realize you're up against Chloe.
- 11:08JILL: At this point, it's anybody's game.
- 11:10And nothing is scarier than a dance mom under pressure.
- 11:14ABBY: Remember, sometimes people play dirty when they're
- 11:18talking about politics.
- 11:26[music playing]
- 11:28How's your foot?
- 11:31It's OK.
- 11:32MELISSA: Ugh.
- 11:33There's stuff all over the floor there.
- 11:34Here, honey.
- 11:35You have to do your homework, Mad.
- 11:37No.
- 11:37I don't want to.
- 11:38I know, honey, but--
- 11:40you're going to go to dance, but you
- 11:41have to have your homework finished first.
- 11:41I know.
- 11:42But can't we just got to, like, dance early
- 11:43and I'll do that later?
- 11:46You could do it on the way.
- 11:47I'm thinking of homeschooling Maddie and Mackenzie
- 11:49because they can do a lot more.
- 11:52They can dance more.
- 11:53They can take voice and piano.
- 11:55And, you know, kids have more time to-- for themselves.
- 11:58I have Tracy coming over to talk to you guys.
- 12:01You know, if we do the homeschooling,
- 12:02then you guys can dance more, you know, and really
- 12:05do what you want to do.
- 12:06OK?
- 12:07OK.
- 12:09I really want to homeschool, even though my mom says
- 12:11that school comes before dance.
- 12:14I say that dance comes before school.
- 12:16[doorbell ringing]
- 12:19It's Tracy.
- 12:20MACKENZIE: [laughs]
- 12:21MELISSA: Sh.
- 12:24Hi, Trace! TRACY: Hi.
- 12:25How are you? TRACY: Good.
- 12:26How are you? - Come on in.
- 12:27Thank you.
- 12:28Come on.
- 12:29I've been doing a lot of research about homeschooling.
- 12:31I've spoken to a few tutors that would actually teach my girls.
- 12:35And we're just going to see what happens at this point.
- 12:38I was explaining to the girls that I spoke to you,
- 12:40you know, about homeschooling them.
- 12:42And I explained to them that they
- 12:43have to go to school every day, you know, and that's the law.
- 12:46Yeah.
- 12:47With homeschooling, you do everything
- 12:48that you would do in school-- all the same subjects,
- 12:51everything.
- 12:52It's about four to five hours a day,
- 12:54so you have extra time to do more things, like dance.
- 12:58They both want to do it.
- 12:59You know, Mackenzie wants to--
- 13:01she wants to really step it up with her dancing.
- 13:03But I'll miss my school friends.
- 13:05I know.
- 13:06You have your best friend there, huh?
- 13:07MACKENZIE: I want to be homeschooled,
- 13:08but I'll miss my friends.
- 13:10TRACY: I think just maybe me and you going to a meeting with one
- 13:15of the counselors.
- 13:16MELISSA: This sounds good, so we're going to move forward.
- 13:18OK, girls, we got to go get ready for dance.
- 13:20Thank Tracy for coming.
- 13:21Thank you.
- 13:22You're welcome, girls.
- 13:24[music playing]
- 13:30Well, I'm excited for your solo.
- 13:32It's been a really long, rough road for Chloe.
- 13:35Because Abby has said that she no longer is at Maddie's level,
- 13:38and that she can't keep up, and she's regressed.
- 13:41So I'm really happy to see Chloe given the opportunity to prove
- 13:45that none of that is true. - Come on, girls!
- 13:46Let's go, let's go, let's go.
- 13:48You should be ready!
- 13:49The routine is a big hot mess right now.
- 13:52But once I get Asia in this number,
- 13:54I think it's going to come together.
- 13:56We're going to start the dance where we left off.
- 13:58I figured out what I'm going to do with you, Asia.
- 14:01I don't like to throw kids out in the end of the numbers,
- 14:04but I think this will be inspirational.
- 14:07I think the audience will love it.
- 14:09And I am going to have you come running onto the stage
- 14:14with the American flag.
- 14:15I want to use Asia in this patriotic number
- 14:18because she's a little firecracker.
- 14:20So I decided to let Asia carry the flag.
- 14:23Now, this is very important.
- 14:24A flag it's never supposed to touch the ground.
- 14:27You need to be careful that it never touches the ground.
- 14:30I met with a tutor today, you know,
- 14:33just asking questions about homeschooling.
- 14:35JILL: Oh, you did?
- 14:36MELISSA: Mm-hmm. JILL: What's your next step?
- 14:37MELISSA: I don't know if I'm doing it yet.
- 14:38JILL: You find a tutor--
- 14:39I still don't know if I'm doing it yet.
- 14:40Do you want them to get more dance class?
- 14:43Totally.
- 14:44KELLY: I think the only reason Melissa's pulling her kids out
- 14:46of school is to get them ahead in the dance world.
- 14:50And that's a crock of [bleep].
- 14:51I'm definitely going to do it next year.
- 14:53I mean, it's a definite for next year, no question.
- 14:56Maddie and Mackenzie want to homeschool.
- 14:58They want more time.
- 15:00They can dance more.
- 15:01They'll be able to sleep another hour in the morning.
- 15:04What do you want out of this experience
- 15:07that the school can't provide you?
- 15:09Mackenzie's going to take piano.
- 15:10Like-- like, it'll be fun for her to take a piano class.
- 15:13You know?
- 15:14Like, I might take piano.
- 15:16I know Melissa will do anything
- 15:17to make sure that her daughters are the best dancers.
- 15:19But taking your kids out of school is really serious,
- 15:22and I'm not sure that Melissa is doing it for the right reasons.
- 15:25School is not just about busy work.
- 15:27It's about can you think.
- 15:29Can you be a citizen of the world and think for yourself?
- 15:33I just really agree with Holly.
- 15:34I really do.
- 15:36Isn't our role as a parent to make sure our children grow up
- 15:38educated?
- 15:39The only thing Maddie's going to know is a tendu!
- 15:41These are hard questions because your child
- 15:43gets one chance at education.
- 15:46Run again for me.
- 15:47Run.
- 15:48(SINGING) Something's coming.
- 15:50I can feel it.
- 15:52- Is that her part? - [laughs]
- 15:53She runs across the back?
- 15:55Come on.
- 15:55Chase her!
- 15:58That looks really bad.
- 16:00Don't you think?
- 16:01Well, I just think she's too short to hold the flag.
- 16:04Now run.
- 16:05Now do your grand jeté, then keep going.
- 16:08[laughter]
- 16:10Asia just runs through with the flag.
- 16:12Like, this-- is this the Olympics
- 16:14and did you just win the marathon?
- 16:15I think this makes Asia look like she can't do anything.
- 16:20In the group dance, Asia's role is little.
- 16:23But I don't think it's demeaning her as a dancer.
- 16:27People know how my child dances, so I'm not
- 16:30going to get all feathers ruffled over this flag.
- 16:33But I remember a flag dance--
- 16:34Do you really think everyone who goes to dance competitions
- 16:36know your-- how your child dances?
- 16:37I think enough people-- HOLLY: Really?
- 16:39--that are important know how my daughter dances.
- 16:40Yeah.
- 16:41Asia might be a big deal on the internet,
- 16:43but so was a dog who can bark his ABCs.
- 16:46I never heard of Asia before she walked through this door.
- 16:50I just think that's a really big thing to say.
- 16:53The competitions that we do in other states are larger.
- 16:57I'm just mainly stating a fact that the women up here did not
- 17:00know who Asia was.
- 17:01There's nothing to disagree about.
- 17:02I didn't even know who Nia was.
- 17:04But I wouldn't expect you to.
- 17:06All of the moms have worked really hard to get our girls
- 17:08where they are in this team.
- 17:09So to have Kristie Ray waltz in and act like she's a star--
- 17:13it's pretty obnoxious, to say the least.
- 17:15I'm not afraid to say anything at any time.
- 17:18I don't care what you say and what you don't say.
- 17:20So let's get that clear.
- 17:23Sometimes we have nothing interesting or intelligent
- 17:25to say.
- 17:26You should just be quiet.
- 17:27And I won't be quiet because I always
- 17:29do have something interesting and intelligent to say.
- 17:30I disagree on that one.
- 17:31We can agree to disagree on that.
- 17:40[music playing]
- 17:42ABBY: Eight, seven, six, five, four, three--
- 17:47I only have two days with this number on stage.
- 17:50I need to make sure everything is perfect, including
- 17:53the costumes.
- 17:54My vision is patriotic-- an assortment of red, white,
- 17:58and blue.
- 17:59So I figured the moms to do it.
- 18:01There is no costumes.
- 18:04Did anyone go home and do any of the costume with the flag
- 18:08or do anything with the flag?
- 18:09CHRISTI: No.
- 18:10I did not.
- 18:11Abby wants us to make a costume this week out
- 18:13of a flag.
- 18:14But I thought it was against the rules to cut a flag.
- 18:18I think that that's, like, unpatriotic.
- 18:20My God, like, people die for that freedom
- 18:23that that flag represents.
- 18:25Absolutely.
- 18:26CHRISTI: And for us to be like, "Cover your booty with it"--
- 18:28There are some things you just do not do.
- 18:31And tampering-- destroying the American flag is one of them.
- 18:37You should not use it as a costume.
- 18:38[laughs]
- 18:41[music playing]
- 18:46ABBY: In the history of the Abby Lee Dance Company,
- 18:49there has always been more than one top dancer.
- 18:53And now there's Maddie and Chloe.
- 18:55And they're amazing because they have each other to compete
- 18:58with.
- 18:59That's where you let that arm get caught up over your head.
- 19:03If their leg is this high, you want yours to be higher.
- 19:08If they could jump as high, you want to jump higher.
- 19:12Every child gets better because the girl standing next to her
- 19:16is getting better.
- 19:22Chloe and Maddie going head-to-head this week is huge.
- 19:25Their rivalry has been going on for years, where they
- 19:27back and forth in first place.
- 19:29Chloe is just as talented as Maddie,
- 19:31but she's out of practice.
- 19:32And I'm happy that Chloe finally is going to get a chance
- 19:35to show that she's the reigning National Champ.
- 19:38I think that's it.
- 19:39Maddie, why don't you get a drink?
- 19:40Chloe, grab a drink.
- 19:41Asia, go right now.
- 19:43[drum beating]
- 19:48Asia is quite impressive.
- 19:50She has so much electricity when she dances.
- 19:53I think Mackenzie should sit and watch Asia.
- 19:55Hey, she's sitting on her but getting worse
- 19:58and Asia's on stage getting better.
- 20:00Very good!
- 20:01[applause]
- 20:08Melissa's made it very clear to all the moms she's not
- 20:10the least bit threatened by Asia or Kristie.
- 20:13I'm going to go ask Abby about the costumes.
- 20:17But if I was Melissa, I would feel a little threatened.
- 20:21So what's happening with the foot?
- 20:23What do you think?
- 20:25She really wants to dance.
- 20:26I mean, Asia comes in from out of town, boom.
- 20:28She comes in right when Mackenzie's injured.
- 20:31Asia and Mackenzie both have great qualities,
- 20:33and they also both have a lot of flaws.
- 20:36But if Mackenzie keeps sitting and Asia keeps dancing,
- 20:39Asia's going to get better.
- 20:41You know, she doesn't want to let Asia waltz into here
- 20:44from 3,000 miles away and pass her up and take her spot.
- 20:50[music playing]
- 20:52Ready?
- 20:53Let's go.
- 20:54Paige, give her the flag back so she can do it.
- 20:56When you put it over her, it needs to be vertical.
- 20:58Because Paige can't adapt quickly to that change.
- 21:01She wouldn't know how to just twist it around 90 degrees.
- 21:05Asia and Paige both have to work with the flag.
- 21:08I mean, Asia runs around with it,
- 21:10and Paige has to hold it up the correct way.
- 21:12So they both have to work together to make this work.
- 21:15[music playing]
- 21:16(SINGING) Seeds of anger--
- 21:21The group routine "Free the People" is very inspirational,
- 21:25patriotic.
- 21:26And you just want to stand up when that flag comes out.
- 21:31(SINGING) We all want the same thing.
- 21:35ABBY: Chase her! Go!
- 21:37Chase her!
- 21:38Keep running!
- 21:41Kendall, you're chasing her!
- 21:44What? What?
- 21:46What did she do?
- 21:47ABBY: Kendall, when you chase someone,
- 21:49should you be in front of them or behind them?
- 21:52When Kendall and Chloe and Maddie
- 21:54all ran to the middle and they all got balled up,
- 21:56but she yelled at Kendall.
- 21:58ABBY: OK.
- 21:59Kendall, meet Asia.
- 22:02You're going to chase her around this room.
- 22:05When you get up, you go behind her.
- 22:07You fall in line behind her.
- 22:10KENDALL: I know.
- 22:11But she was still doing her grand jeté when we rolled up.
- 22:14ABBY: I expect you to go into another room or the den
- 22:16and start working on that number.
- 22:18Every step of it, go.
- 22:20I work my butt off to make sure Abby has no reason
- 22:23to yell at me or my daughter.
- 22:25But she does anyway.
- 22:26All right.
- 22:27I just wanted to check on you.
- 22:28Abby says dance is political.
- 22:31Well, I'm the one that walked her dog and bought her gifts.
- 22:34And she's still featuring Maddie, Chloe and Asia,
- 22:38and yelling at Kendall.
- 22:41Excuse me.
- 22:42Yes?
- 22:43I know you're busy.
- 22:44We have something that we need to discuss.
- 22:46ABBY: I don't have anything to discuss.
- 22:48Well, I-- listen. I'm need to find out--
- 22:49But why is your kid crying? Every-- everbody else--
- 22:51- Because you don't scream at-- - Everybody else gets yelled at.
- 22:51She's a baby.
- 22:53--any other kid like you scream at her.
- 22:54Oh-- you say one thing to that kid and, "Boo, hoo, hoo, hoo,
- 22:57hoo," she's crying to her mother.
- 22:59You know what, Kendall?
- 23:00If you want to be the baby of the team, that's fine.
- 23:03Go.
- 23:03There's the door, right there.
- 23:05JILL: Abby, I wish it were that easy.
- 23:06ABBY: I understand that, but--
- 23:07And if that's really what you want, then we will.
- 23:08That's-- that's not what I want.
- 23:10JILL: I didn't think that's what you wanted.
- 23:11ABBY: But I don't get what the crying, boo-hoo little--
- 23:12I don't either.
- 23:13[makes chirping sound]
- 23:14The other moms can't--
- 23:15Your kid is a brat, is crying--
- 23:19Are you kidding me? ABBY: She's crying one--
- 23:20There are brats in there, and Kendall is not one of them,
- 23:23and you know it!
- 23:29[music playing]
- 23:31ABBY: We're at Powerhouse Dance Competition in Philadelphia.
- 23:34And I am really worried.
- 23:36The competition is tough.
- 23:38They're going to have to battle their way to the top.
- 23:41Ooh, this is neat!
- 23:43This is like Dungeons and Dragons.
- 23:45Jill's right.
- 23:46We're all in the dungeon and Abby is the dragon.
- 23:49ABBY: I want you girls to be strong.
- 23:51People should be on their feet cheering when
- 23:54they see that flag come out.
- 23:56Save your tears for the pillow.
- 23:58JILL: Asia was crying in the dressing room the other night.
- 24:00Not because I yelled at her.
- 24:02Yeah, because you never yell at her.
- 24:03[laughs] I know that Asia was crying in the dressing room.
- 24:07I mean, it's-- it's really not my business,
- 24:10but I wanted Abby to know.
- 24:12ABBY: Jill, I can't believe you were tattletaling
- 24:14on a 7-year-old.
- 24:15Oh, I didn't tattletale.
- 24:16I wanted her mom to explain.
- 24:18ABBY: I can't believe Jill, a grown woman,
- 24:21is tattletaling on a 7-year-old.
- 24:24Jill, we all know the crybaby on the team is.
- 24:27Yeah, well, you--
- 24:28you keep reminding everybody.
- 24:31ABBY: All right.
- 24:32Are we ready for our Miss USA fashion show?
- 24:34[music playing] Yankee Doodle.
- 24:36- Woo! - Work the runway.
- 24:37Yankee Doodle.
- 24:38Cute.
- 24:38Next. Why don't you come--
- 24:40MELISSA: Look at Paige. [laughs]
- 24:41--right in front of that one?
- 24:43I feel much better with the moms
- 24:45making the costumes out of handkerchiefs and fabric
- 24:48rather than cutting up a flag.
- 24:49I just feel like that was totally against the rules.
- 24:52MELISSA: She's such a teenager.
- 24:54HOLLY: I am really proud of us.
- 24:55The costumes are sharp, and no flags were harmed.
- 24:59Betsy Ross!
- 25:00Cute!
- 25:01I'm worried about Paige.
- 25:04I'm worried about her making sure
- 25:05that flag is used correctly.
- 25:07But I'm also a little concerned with Asia stretching that flag
- 25:10over Paige.
- 25:13No.
- 25:13No.
- 25:14No.
- 25:15OK.
- 25:16You're not getting low enough and you're not grabbing it
- 25:18in front, like, here.
- 25:20Right hand on blue.
- 25:21Do it again. No.
- 25:22No. No.
- 25:23No. No.
- 25:24No. Flip it over.
- 25:25These girls better do the group dance perfect or we're screwed.
- 25:31Line up, soldiers!
- 25:33KELLY: If Abby thought that the main part of the dance
- 25:36was Paige holding the flag up correctly,
- 25:38then she should've rehearsed it a lot more than 30 seconds
- 25:41before they went on stage.
- 25:42Remember, this routine loses, they're blaming you.
- 25:46KRISTIE: Anything could go wrong.
- 25:47But as far as Asia handling the flag,
- 25:51I think she can pull it off.
- 25:52[music playing]
- 25:59ANNOUNCER: Entry number 74, Junior Small Group Division.
- 26:03Here they are with "Free the People."
- 26:06[cheering and applause]
- 26:11[music playing]
- 26:17(SINGING) Something's coming.
- 26:21I can feel it.
- 26:25Through the darkness we can't stop it.
- 26:33Will I live to see another day?
- 26:37Will I live to see the sunrise?
- 26:41What we're doing here is right.
- 26:45And in our hands, a burning spear.
- 26:49Our hearts, on fire.
- 26:51We feel no fear.
- 26:53And I will shield us all around from sky to ground.
- 26:59Our breathing is freedom.
- 27:02[cheering and applause]
- 27:19ANNOUNCER: That was entry number 74, "Free the People."
- 27:28So we know that Paige held the flag up wrong.
- 27:31But knowing that Asia is the new kid on the team,
- 27:34I'm hoping that the mothers don't target
- 27:36her to blame for this flag.
- 27:44Asia puts the flag on Paige's back, upside down.
- 27:47Like, it was Asia's fault.
- 27:52[cheering]
- 27:53Come on. Let's go.
- 27:55Let's go. Let's go.
- 27:56I told Paige, who is 12 years old,
- 27:5910 times how to hold the flag.
- 28:02Were you taught what to do in class, in rehearsal?
- 28:05Did we go over it?
- 28:06And the one most.
- 28:08Important thing was right hand on the blue section.
- 28:12Well, but, she hung it that way
- 28:14because if you looked at her when she was pulling it out,
- 28:18she was holding it by the stripes.
- 28:19So she just held it the other way.
- 28:21She learned what to do.
- 28:23And she knew that she needed to get
- 28:25those blue stars in her right hand to pull it up.
- 28:30This week we're performing a political number.
- 28:33And getting to vote is a big deal,
- 28:35so I thought why not have the kids judge each other?
- 28:38All right, girls, we're going to do something
- 28:40a little different.
- 28:42Today everybody who will be sitting in the audience,
- 28:44you will be voting on Maddie or Chloe.
- 28:51Here's another one of Abby's twisted lessons--
- 28:54the politics of dance.
- 28:56I get that you have to vote and everybody
- 28:58gets a vote and someone wins and someone loses.
- 29:01But it doesn't make it any easier
- 29:03to vote against your friends.
- 29:04ABBY: So you get to judge on the performance.
- 29:07It's up to you to go in there and make a choice.
- 29:16[music playing]
- 29:17Today you get to judge on the performance.
- 29:18You will be voting on Maddie or Chloe.
- 29:22Really, Abby?
- 29:23You're going to have the moms and the girls
- 29:25silent vote for who danced better, Chloe or Maddie?
- 29:28What are you hoping to gain out of that?
- 29:30I want you to see that when you're
- 29:33judging many different things come into play.
- 29:36I am trying to get these kids motivated to be more
- 29:39passionate about their dancing.
- 29:41What better way than sitting in the audience and judging?
- 29:45Come on, come on, let's go.
- 29:48I think healthy competition between them
- 29:50makes them both stronger, better performers.
- 30:07KRISTIE: I think Abby was trying to challenge them to out-dance
- 30:11each other on stage.
- 30:12I don't think there's anything wrong with it.
- 30:14I've always instilled in Asia to brush off the bad comments
- 30:19and prove them wrong on stage.
- 30:20[cheering and applause]
- 30:21ANNOUNCER: Taking the stage right now is entry number 15.
- 30:24Here is Asia with "Ready for War."
- 30:27[cheering and applause]
- 30:34[music playing]
- 30:41(SINGING) Ponytail-- check.
- 30:50Earrings off-- check.
- 30:55You see, I'm ready--
- 30:58ready for war.
- 31:02Don't you forget it 'cause I'm coming for more.
- 31:11If you thought that I was done, that I was through,
- 31:14you're mistaken.
- 31:15I have so much more.
- 31:16You see, I'm ready--
- 31:19ready for war.
- 31:27[cheering and applause]
- 31:34MELISSA: I think Asia looked good on stage.
- 31:36But it's hard to watch because I feel bad for Mackenzie.
- 31:40It's breaking her heart.
- 31:42Good job!
- 31:43I did it.
- 31:45OK.
- 31:46All right.
- 31:47Take one, pass them down.
- 31:48HOLLY: Yes. Oh, you could borrow one.
- 31:49KRISTIE: Thank you. - Does everyone have a ballot?
- 31:50HOLLY: I have one.
- 31:52I wonder why Abby's doing that voting thing for Maddie and I.
- 31:55MADDIE: Yeah.
- 31:56Maybe because you guys haven't competed against each other
- 31:58in a while.
- 31:59They want to see who's been working harder.
- 32:02The dance competition world is a much bigger picture.
- 32:05Kids don't always understand.
- 32:07I want to see if this vote helps them to see what the judges are
- 32:10seeing.
- 32:11Just because somebody is your friend
- 32:12doesn't mean that they're going to show favoritism towards you.
- 32:17ANNOUNCER: Taking the stage right now, entry number 29.
- 32:21Here's Chloe with "Am I Here to Stay?"
- 32:24I really hope she just doesn't let the pressure get to her
- 32:27and she doesn't psych herself out.
- 32:29Because her solo is beautiful, and I really just
- 32:31want her to do well with it.
- 32:33GIRLS: Go, Chloe!
- 32:35[music playing]
- 32:42(SINGING) Can't explain the vision in my dreams.
- 32:49I just don't know what it mean.
- 32:56Every time I think about the day you left me here,
- 33:00I feel so cold inside.
- 33:03It's not coming back 'cause you're not coming back.
- 33:11You're gone, but this pain is here to stay.
- 33:20But this pain is here to stay.
- 33:28[cheering and applause]
- 33:33CHRISTI: Considering all this pressure on Chloe this week.
- 33:35I thought she was beautiful and elegant on stage/ I'm really
- 33:38proud of Chloe.
- 33:39I think it was good enough to beat Maddie.
- 33:41ANNOUNCER: Taking the stage right now we've
- 33:42got entry number 30.
- 33:45Here's Maddie with "I'm Trying."
- 33:49[cheering and applause]
- 33:52[music playing]
- 33:58(SINGING) Tears rolling down from my eyes,
- 34:03and I forget why I'm crying.
- 34:08The need to make a change, pick up the pieces
- 34:17and rearrange-- oh, and I'm trying to see every star,
- 34:26shut out the storm that hit my life.
- 34:32Oh, I'm trying.
- 34:50[cheering and applause]
- 34:55CHRISTI: I think when people are voting they need to remember
- 34:58that these girls are working at a disadvantage
- 35:02unless they're Maddie.
- 35:03I think Chloe's better.
- 35:04But who am I to judge?
- 35:06I personally would have really liked to see Mackenzie and Asia
- 35:09go head-to-head.
- 35:12MELISSA: They will.
- 35:13I don't know.
- 35:14I think that you're going to make sure that doesn't happen,
- 35:16Melissa.
- 35:17Woo-hoo!
- 35:19KELLY: When we're done with this voting,
- 35:21can we change the front of that to say Suggestion Box?
- 35:23Because I got a few suggestions.
- 35:25CHRISTI: Oh, good idea!
- 35:26[cheering]
- 35:30Good job, everybody.
- 35:31ABBY: Good, good, good, good, good.
- 35:32Wonderful. Wonderful.
- 35:33Wonderful. Yay!
- 35:34KELLY: Oh, for god's sakes.
- 35:35HOLLY: Kids vote all the time in schools,
- 35:37whether it's for student council or team captains.
- 35:40But it doesn't make it easy.
- 35:42Maddie, Chloe, you don't get to vote.
- 35:45OK.
- 35:46Come on and put your vote in the box.
- 35:49JILL: Put your ballots--
- 35:50ABBY: There you go. OK.
- 35:51Thank you.
- 35:52We're going to keep these safe and sound
- 35:53and we're going to count these votes later.
- 35:55Everybody back off.
- 35:56Let's go for awards.
- 35:57Smile.
- 35:58Let's go.
- 36:00[music playing]
- 36:02You guys ready for awards?
- 36:04[cheering and applause]
- 36:06We cast our ballots.
- 36:08Now it's time to see who the judges selected
- 36:10as their winner.
- 36:11In the Junior Small Group Division--
- 36:15ABBY: I was sweating it out there in the end.
- 36:17Were the judges looking for straight legs and pointed feet?
- 36:20Were they looking for a story?
- 36:22Who knows.
- 36:23It's in the hands of the judges now.
- 36:26ANNOUNCER: In third place, entry number 72, "Be Mine."
- 36:28[cheering and applause]
- 36:31KELLY: Abby already blamed Paige for the whole flag thing.
- 36:34I just hope that we can go out there and we can win.
- 36:37Second place, entry number 74, "Free the People."
- 36:40[applause]
- 36:46ABBY: We were only second.
- 36:49And we all know how I feel about second.
- 36:54In the Petite Solo Division--
- 36:56[applause]
- 36:58--third place, entry number 12, "Get Up Off of That Thing."
- 37:02[cheering and applause]
- 37:05Second place is entry number 13, "Supercalifragilistic."
- 37:10[applause]
- 37:12And first place, entry number 15, "Ready for War."
- 37:19[cheering and applause]
- 37:20ANNOUNCER: And name your studio.
- 37:22Abby Lee Dance Company.
- 37:24ANNOUNCER: Give her a round of applause.
- 37:28KRISTIE: I'm so excited Asia pulled it off and won
- 37:30first place.
- 37:31If you don't know Asia, Holly, now you do.
- 37:34In the Junior Solo Division, third place,
- 37:39entry number 25, "Stairway to Heaven."
- 37:41[cheering and applause]
- 37:47CHRISTI: I'm sitting there and I'm
- 37:49a ball of nerves and tension.
- 37:51But, newsflash-- Chloe has beat Maddie before.
- 37:53It's not like this far fetched thing
- 37:55to think that she could beat her, because she has.
- 37:57It's just too much pressure.
- 38:00Back to the old, you know, Chloe versus Maddie.
- 38:03And I really hope Maddie wins first.
- 38:06Second place is entry number 29, "Am I Here to Stay?"
- 38:10[applause]
- 38:11CHRISTI: I'm shocked that Chloe got second.
- 38:14And, to be honest, I haven't seen Chloe
- 38:16dance this well in a long time.
- 38:18She was amazing in the dance.
- 38:20ANNOUNCER: In first place, entry number 30, "I'm Trying."
- 38:23[cheering and applause]
- 38:24MELISSA: Yeah, Maddie!
- 38:26ABBY: Maddie was close to perfection.
- 38:29Her technique was flawless, and the emotional execution
- 38:33is always heartfelt. That's why Maddie wins.
- 38:36Woo-hoo!
- 38:37And you--
- 38:38Maddie.
- 38:39Abby Lee Dance Company.
- 38:40[cheering and applause]
- 38:42This is a toss up.
- 38:44Maddie and Chloe are both doing things really, really well.
- 38:47And I think both of them want this bad.
- 38:50They're both dancing great.
- 38:51[music playing]
- 38:54All right.
- 38:55We're going to count the ballots.
- 39:03Maddie, Chloe, and Paige.
- 39:09[laughs]
- 39:10Was that you?
- 39:11You wrote it?
- 39:12You're just making a mockery of this?
- 39:13CHRISTI: Kelly could vote for whomever she wants.
- 39:16However, she voted against my daughter
- 39:17and it did hurt my feelings.
- 39:19All right.
- 39:20Maddie, Chloe, Maddie.
- 39:23HOLLY: On one hand, I wanted to vote for Maddie because
- 39:25of her technique.
- 39:27On the other hand, I wanted to vote for Chloe because she did
- 39:30the best with what she had.
- 39:31Maddie, Maddie, Chloe, Maddie, Maddie.
- 39:37One, two, three, four, five, six, seven.
- 39:42One, two, three.
- 39:44Maddie wins.
- 39:46I was shocked that more of the kids did not vote for Chloe.
- 39:52Now, that's what your teammates thought.
- 39:55MELISSA: Christi just wanted this victory for Chloe,
- 39:57and I don't blame her.
- 39:59I'm sad for Chloe, absolutely.
- 40:01ABBY: Take that sadness and put it into your dancing.
- 40:04Use more emotion.
- 40:08This has been a long day, and one thing is for sure.
- 40:12My mom and dad taught me to never discuss
- 40:15religion or politics.
- 40:17HOLLY: Although awkward, I think the voting experience was
- 40:20a good one for the girls.
- 40:21Because this is not about friendship or popularity.
- 40:24It's about who can get the job done for the team.
- 40:27Now, Abby, next time two of your kids go head-to-head
- 40:29in a category, you going to have everybody vote?
- 40:31Because you've never done this before
- 40:32and it's just clearly a way to make Chloe
- 40:34feel bad about herself.
- 40:36It's a competitive world, whether it be politics or dance
- 40:40or school.
- 40:41But you have a lot of other kids who go and do stuff
- 40:44but you don't call them out on it!
- 40:45You only pic on mine
- 40:47Oh, you're welcome.
- 40:50ABBY (VOICEOVER): Next on "Dance Moms"--
- 40:53I have been officially invited to be on "The View."
- 40:56[cheering and applause]
- 40:58What if you get hurt again and you're not good for New York
- 41:00City?
- 41:01Like, right now, Asia's rehearsing your spot.
- 41:03KRISTIE: It's about this whole charade.
- 41:05Don't let her rehearse. - What charade?
- 41:06KRISTIE: The charade about the foot.
- 41:07What the [bleep] is wrong with the foot?
- 41:09CHRISTI: I want to know where the miracle came from because--
- 41:11Why don't you call the [bleep] doctor and ask him?
- 41:13Don't take it out on me that Abby pulled your kid
- 41:15from a dance.
- 41:16ABBY: Maddie, if they don't do well, I'm
- 41:18going to need a new assistant.
