  4. 0:24Hey guys, welcome back to an all new
  5. 0:26episode of Conflux. Today we'll be
  6. 0:27looking at the all new Alpha mini.
  7. 0:30That's right. This here is by UBTECH
  8. 0:33Robot, a company we've seen it before
  9. 0:34and makes a lot of different robots
  10. 0:36including this one here. This here is
  11. 0:38the Alpha 1 Pro. Essentially, the bigger
  12. 0:41version of this little guy over here.
  13. 0:43Now, this here is designed to be a
  14. 0:44smaller version of the Alpha but it's
  15. 0:46also quite programmable to the full
  16. 0:48extent. Now, I've been eyeing this robot
  17. 0:50for quite some time but it was never
  18. 0:52actually marketed to the United States.
  19. 0:54Now, the good folks over at UBTECH
  20. 0:56actually sent us this box to review in
  21. 0:58which I'm super excited to share it with
  22. 1:00you guys. Now, if you guys enjoyed this
  23. 1:01video, be sure to hit like and of course
  24. 1:03subscribe and please share it with your
  25. 1:05friends and even comment down below to
  26. 1:07go ahead and get that algorithm going.
  27. 1:09Now, with that said, let's go ahead and
  28. 1:11get started. All right, so obviously
  29. 1:13this here is the Alpha 1S Pro. Uh
  30. 1:16essentially a humanoid robot that can
  31. 1:18fight, it can punch, it can dance, it
  32. 1:21can do so many different things.
  33. 1:22[snorts] And it's actually one of the
  34. 1:23coolest robots I've seen and probably
  35. 1:25one of the very first humanoid robots
  36. 1:27I've ever reviewed. Now, obviously this
  37. 1:29guy here is not going to be as
  38. 1:30sophisticated as him in terms of height
  39. 1:32wise. This is designed to be essentially
  40. 1:34a miniature version but this here is
  41. 1:35designed more for the marketing of
  42. 1:37universities or schools from my
  43. 1:39understanding as it's designed for an
  44. 1:41educational platform. But, let's go
  45. 1:44ahead and open this thing up and see
  46. 1:45what this thing is all about.
  47. 1:50[music]
  48. 1:53All right, so this here is the
  49. 1:54packaging, this here is the box. It says
  50. 1:56Mini Robot, my AI classmate. As you kind
  51. 2:00of rotate it about, you do see a little
  52. 2:01blueprint of Alpha. Very cool. Looks a
  53. 2:04little bit like a friendly, kind of cute
  54. 2:06robot.
  55. 2:07And then that is about it. Now, on this
  56. 2:09side here does say that it has a voice
  57. 2:11interaction, object recognition, facial
  58. 2:14recognition, and visual programming. So,
  59. 2:17all the bells and whistles that you
  60. 2:18would imagine in a robot of its size, if
  61. 2:20not bigger.
  62. 2:23Okay, so comes in this nifty-looking
  63. 2:25case.
  64. 2:26Comes with a little handle on top. I can
  65. 2:28imagine, you know, kids carrying this to
  66. 2:29school.
  67. 2:31So, it says UBTECH. It's actually
  68. 2:33engraved or embossed into there. And
  69. 2:36yeah, it's actually got a nice-looking
  70. 2:38strap, and I believe it just kind of
  71. 2:39opens up like this.
  72. 2:44Oh, man. That's actually pretty cool.
  73. 2:46Now, I do kind of get that Robi kind of
  74. 2:49vibe from this particular robot, the
  75. 2:51robot that we previously reviewed.
  76. 2:53Similar in size, but that one you
  77. 2:55actually have to build
  78. 2:57on a magazine platform. But this here's
  79. 2:59really cool-looking. Almost has
  80. 3:02a little like Lego kind of look like a
  81. 3:05Lego character kind of look to it as
  82. 3:06well.
  83. 3:07[music]
  84. 3:07But yeah, very neat and awesome
  85. 3:09presentation. Now, there's a user manual
  86. 3:12here. So, this here says Alpha Mini
  87. 3:14Robot. Inside here you're going to have
  88. 3:17a key to go ahead and pop open an SD
  89. 3:19card, micro SD card port. I wouldn't
  90. 3:21think it means a SIM card, but yes, so
  91. 3:23that has that port.
  92. 3:25You have your user manual. So, oh yeah,
  93. 3:27it does have a SIM card port. What? So,
  94. 3:30it does support SIM and 4G network
  95. 3:32access. So, you can go ahead and
  96. 3:34technically
  97. 3:36use it with your SIM card in here.
  98. 3:39Really neat. Now, it's actually turn it
  99. 3:40on. There's a power button on the side.
  100. 3:42Bind your robot. Start by using wake up
  101. 3:44your robot from sleep mode, etc., etc.,
  102. 3:46etc.
  103. 3:47And then voice interaction, so you can
  104. 3:49say dance, do a yoga pose, practice kung
  105. 3:53fu, ask the robot what the weather is
  106. 3:55today, take a picture of me. It's got a
  107. 3:57camera, cool. What time is it now? Uh
  108. 4:00how to say apple in French? What is 35 *
  109. 4:0278? So, all these uh fun interactions
  110. 4:05that you can use with this robot. Uh of
  111. 4:07course, there's the camera that we just
  112. 4:08kind of mentioned. So, it has an
  113. 4:10intelligent composition auto focus
  114. 4:13one-tap sharing function.
  115. 4:16Uh pretty neat. And it's got facial
  116. 4:17recognition, of course. Uh it's got
  117. 4:20object recognition, too. Pretty cool.
  118. 4:22And then, of course, it has a privacy
  119. 4:23mode. All right, moving on, we have a
  120. 4:25USB B to USB C cable. Uh little rubber,
  121. 4:29not sure what that is for, but yes. Uh
  122. 4:31let's take out this little guy here.
  123. 4:33Let's kind of lift him up there. Oh.
  124. 4:35All right, yeah. He's uh
  125. 4:38a cute little guy.
  126. 4:40All right. So, really neat off the back,
  127. 4:43I have to say. Uh he's got some wrapping
  128. 4:45on his guy, too. So, we can just go
  129. 4:46ahead and just start removing all those.
  130. 4:48So, there's a one on the top here. So,
  131. 4:50it says touch area, tear off before use.
  132. 4:53So, it does have a touch sensor on the
  133. 4:54top. Uh we have the grip area on the
  134. 4:57side. Says hold 3 seconds to power on.
  135. 5:01So, you grip him from back here like
  136. 5:03this if you're lifting him. Do keep in
  137. 5:05mind, you do need like a university
  138. 5:07access to use this robot. It's not
  139. 5:09something anyone can just kind of buy
  140. 5:11and use it off the back. Uh the good
  141. 5:13folks over at UBTECH actually hooked us
  142. 5:15up with that. So, we were able to
  143. 5:17essentially use it that way. And then,
  144. 5:19this here is our Alpha Mini. Obviously,
  145. 5:21you could tell there's a pretty big size
  146. 5:23difference. Kind of gives you an idea
  147. 5:25in terms of size-wise how much
  148. 5:27difference this little guy is compared
  149. 5:29to him. So, pretty cool stuff there. I'm
  150. 5:32really curious to see how this robot
  151. 5:33performs.
  152. 5:34Uh as I'm actually quite been
  153. 5:36anticipating to try this robot for quite
  154. 5:38some time. I'm going to hold this button
  155. 5:40for 1 2 3.
  156. 5:43Initiating system. Please wait for a
  157. 5:45moment.
  158. 5:46[laughter]
  159. 5:49I love it. That is so wicked. The eyes
  160. 5:52on this thing are absolutely phenomenal.
  161. 5:54I'm ready. Good afternoon. I haven't
  162. 5:56connected to the internet. Give me a
  163. 5:59hand.
  164. 5:59And we're going to open up our Alpha
  165. 6:03mini app. All right, so let's go ahead
  166. 6:06and start the binding process.
  167. 6:07Oh, yeah. Network connected. I am using
  168. 6:10the Wi-Fi.
  169. 6:12Yahoo! The binding is successful.
  170. 6:14Yahoo!
  171. 6:16All right, click on done. All right, uh
  172. 6:18so this here's our main hub. We have
  173. 6:19programming create actions. We have
  174. 6:20workspace. We have my works. Uh we have
  175. 6:23entertainment, which includes action,
  176. 6:25album, friends, uh things to say, and
  177. 6:27then we have the Alpha mini skills. Uh
  178. 6:30so this here is going to be different
  179. 6:32things that we can essentially ask it to
  180. 6:33do. So that's kind of neat, too. So they
  181. 6:35have stuff in here built in. Uh we have
  182. 6:37my profile.
  183. 6:39Now again, this here's more or less uh
  184. 6:41educational platform robot. So it's
  185. 6:44designed for more programming aspects.
  186. 6:46So we go to create actions, you'll see
  187. 6:48it right over here. From here we can go
  188. 6:49ahead and click on add and uh create our
  189. 6:53own actions.
  190. 6:54Select the part you want to edit. The
  191. 6:56corresponding joint will gently shake my
  192. 6:58joints. Click the add button or the
  193. 7:00volume plus number of the backpack to
  194. 7:02save the movement.
  195. 7:06Okay.
  196. 7:07I'm going to get hurt. Don't shake my
  197. 7:09arm too much.
  198. 7:13So I just added that. So there's a
  199. 7:14button on the side to add that motion.
  200. 7:17So this is pretty cool. So I can move
  201. 7:19the head. Oops, sorry. Pick the joint
  202. 7:20that I want. So I'm going to do uh my
  203. 7:23right arm.
  204. 7:26Bring it up. Select.
  205. 7:29All right. And then
  206. 7:31um
  207. 7:32bring up the left arm.
  208. 7:36I'm going to get hurt. Don't shake
  209. 7:39Okay. So for instance, I've created
  210. 7:41three motions here. And this it says
  211. 7:42time frame, I can change that time
  212. 7:44frame, too. So, I can make it faster or
  213. 7:46slower, and then I hit play.
  214. 7:54Sweet. So, it just went ahead and
  215. 7:55created a motion. I mean, this is great
  216. 7:57for like teaching children on how to do
  217. 8:00programming in a very simplistic matter
  218. 8:03that doesn't require like blocky or even
  219. 8:06to know how to read properly. You can
  220. 8:07technically do this as a small child.
  221. 8:10So, you can save this, and then you can
  222. 8:11upload it and share it as well. So, this
  223. 8:14is really great. Now, under workspace
  224. 8:16here, you'll see your drag and drop
  225. 8:19method. So, this here is going to be
  226. 8:20your if-then situations, right? So, when
  227. 8:23play is tapped, we can move the
  228. 8:26character forward
  229. 8:28five steps. We can do a dance.
  230. 8:32So, let's try
  231. 8:33a specific thing. We can do
  232. 8:36all these different motions here.
  233. 8:38Um, so, we can try this upbeat indie
  234. 8:40folk. I'm not sure what that is, but
  235. 8:42yes. So, if I go ahead and put an
  236. 8:44expression and end it with look around
  237. 8:46and hit start.
  238. 8:49So, when I hit play,
  239. 8:52there we go.
  240. 8:54Moving forward.
  241. 8:58And now it's going to perform.
  242. 9:03[music]
  243. 9:13[music]
  244. 9:19[music]
  245. 9:24[music]
  246. 9:29[music]
  247. 9:37[music]
  248. 9:45[music]
  249. 9:51And it'll end with look around.
  250. 9:55It's like that.
  251. 9:57So, this is super duper cool. I love it.
  252. 9:59Very easy to use. Uh you can do other
  253. 10:02things as well as in terms of control
  254. 10:03aspect goes. Uh you have different
  255. 10:05content. Uh you have variables, you have
  256. 10:08calculations.
  257. 10:10Uh and it's actually pretty darn cool
  258. 10:12for what it is. Under all works, I can
  259. 10:14go ahead and see the things that I've
  260. 10:16saved, so that's great. So, if I click
  261. 10:18on actions here, I can individually see
  262. 10:21each action. So, to show you them, we'll
  263. 10:22kind of go through all of them here. So,
  264. 10:24we'll start off with the action modes.
  265. 10:26But, you can see that there's different
  266. 10:28dances, there is funny,
  267. 10:31uh different motions, and different
  268. 10:32things as well. So, this is tai chi.
  269. 10:37[music]
  270. 10:43[music]
  271. 10:59[music]
  272. 11:08[music]
  273. 11:25[bell]
  274. 11:30This is push-ups.
  275. 11:33Oh, look at him go.
  276. 11:341
  277. 11:352 3
  278. 11:384
  279. 11:405
  280. 11:42Good job. He did five push-ups.
  281. 11:45All right.
  282. 11:46so tired.
  283. 11:48[laughter]
  284. 11:48Nicely done. Uh we have kung fu.
  285. 11:59Whoa.
  286. 12:04Look at that. Nicely done.
  287. 12:09[screaming]
  288. 12:12Uh we have yoga.
  289. 12:17Whoa. Look at that. It's actually
  290. 12:18balancing. That's so cool. This is nod.
  291. 12:25Hey Minnie. [music]
  292. 12:29Raise your hand.
  293. 12:34Hey Minnie.
  294. 12:36Put your hands up.
  295. 12:41[laughter]
  296. 12:42This is lift your right foot.
  297. 12:46Uh lift your left foot.
  298. 12:53This is
  299. 12:54bow.
  300. 13:01And this is sit down.
  301. 13:04Oh, look at him go. He actually sits
  302. 13:05down pretty good.
  303. 13:09[laughter]
  304. 13:12Nicely done.
  305. 13:13Hey Minnie.
  306. 13:15Stand up.
  307. 13:24Huh? Okay. Okay. I thought it was going
  308. 13:26to fall for a second. So, they actually
  309. 13:28did a really good job with this. Now,
  310. 13:29these are all the different dances.
  311. 13:31Uh so, I can do Hey Minnie.
  312. 13:35Dance the little star.
  313. 13:39[music]
  314. 13:47[music]
  315. 14:27[music]
  316. 14:39[music]
  317. 14:47Nicely done.
  318. 14:50[laughter]
  319. 14:51Uh so, this one here is called fun
  320. 14:53whistle.
  321. 14:57I love how the eyes are animated with
  322. 14:59it.
  323. 14:59[music]
  324. 15:56[music]
  325. 16:05All right, so up next we're going to try
  326. 16:07the European Summer Dance.
  327. 16:29[music]
  328. 16:44Those guys got some good moves, huh?
  329. 16:58Nicely done.
  330. 17:00All right, this is Moments of Joy.
  331. 17:05[music]
  332. 17:10[music]
  333. 17:16[music]
  334. 17:22[music]
  335. 17:24I love that dance move.
  336. 17:26It's like
  337. 17:30[music]
  338. 17:46[music]
  339. 17:50[music]
  340. 17:56All right, summer kids.
  341. 18:15[music]
  342. 18:25[music]
  343. 18:30[music]
  344. 18:38[music]
  345. 18:44All right, so that was fun. This is that
  346. 18:47positive feeling.
  347. 18:51[music]
  348. 18:56I think he's doing the Bernie.
  349. 19:02[music]
  350. 19:15[music]
  351. 19:20[music]
  352. 19:27[music]
  353. 19:37[music]
  354. 19:40All right. So, this here is summer
  355. 19:42upbeat travel pop.
  356. 20:25This here's road trip with Ali.
  357. 21:12I like the sunglasses there on the the
  358. 21:14eyes just for that 1 second. That's
  359. 21:16pretty cool.
  360. 21:19That's that. And now this here is happy
  361. 21:21time.
  362. 21:27So you can see there's little like wind
  363. 21:29mills in the eyes. Oh, I love the
  364. 21:31details.
  365. 21:38[music]
  366. 21:43[music]
  367. 21:46All right, this is happy kids.
  368. 21:53All right, so you also have some funny
  369. 21:54ones. So this here is burp.
  370. 22:01[laughter]
  371. 22:02That was a burp.
  372. 22:04All right, uh this here is fart.
  373. 22:12[laughter]
  374. 22:15It's kind of play it off. Uh this is
  375. 22:17stretch.
  376. 22:18All right, looks like
  377. 22:21Good morning.
  378. 22:22[laughter]
  379. 22:25And this here is nap.
  380. 22:27You guys can see it kind of closing its
  381. 22:29eyes. Wait, look at that. Oh, oh, he
  382. 22:31almost fell asleep there.
  383. 22:32[laughter]
  384. 22:33And up, he's going to fall asleep. Nope,
  385. 22:36he's going to wake up. He's going to
  386. 22:37wake [music] up.
  387. 22:38So overall pretty darn cool animations.
  388. 22:41All right, so let's go ahead and check
  389. 22:42out Alpha Mini Skills. Now, we can
  390. 22:44technically ask it to do different
  391. 22:46things besides obviously showcasing
  392. 22:48different animations. We can say, "Hey
  393. 22:51Mini,
  394. 22:52take a photo."
  395. 22:56All right.
  396. 22:58It's going to take a picture. [music]

  488. 26:47expressions, there's a lot of different
  489. 26:49expressions that you can click on. So if
  490. 26:50I click on look around, you can see all
  491. 26:52the different ones here.
  492. 26:54So, you have a variety of different
  493. 26:57facials that you can do. Like this one's

  514. 27:55Uh Urdu. But this is pretty cool. I
  515. 27:57mean, honestly, there's a lot you could
  516. 27:59do with this particular robot. And I
  517. 28:01think they did a phenomenal job with
  518. 28:03this. I mean, it'd be great if they had
  519. 28:04this capability to use it in the public
  520. 28:06eye. So, it has a continuous dialogue
  521. 28:08conversation where you can just keep
  522. 28:09talking to it. And yeah, I mean, hands
  523. 28:12down definitely a really cool robot. And
  524. 28:14the size of it is absolutely phenomenal
  525. 28:15to see something like this to move and
  526. 28:18function the way it is is absolutely
  527. 28:20mind-blowing. All right, well there you

  531. 28:27phenomenal job with this. I love the
  532. 28:29eyes and I love the fact that it's so
  533. 28:30small, but it can go ahead and maneuver
  534. 28:32so precisely. Now, with that said, if
