- 0:00You know how some words just stick with you for the rest of your life?
- 0:03Like how my dad told me I was a waste of space or...
- 0:06how my crush said "ew" when I went up and talked to her.
- 0:08Those are just a few of my finest examples.
- 0:11But I remember a line from "The Hangover" that stuck with me till this day.
- 0:14It changed my life.
- 0:15And it goes something like this...
- 0:17"Gambling?"
- 0:18"Who said anything about gambling?"
- 0:22You hear that?
- 0:24That's the sound of confidence.
- 0:27I've spent the past 3 weeks reading this manga.
- 0:30Imagine gambling, but the main character is crazy and so is everyone else.
- 0:34A gambling manga filled with crazy people.
- 0:37I'm sold.
- 0:47That's how I introduce myself at the blackjack table.
- 0:49He goes around bankrupting casinos and robbing people of their retirement funds.
- 0:53If you think for a second that you could fool him,
- 0:55then you're the fool.
- 0:57He's the lie eater and he's gonna...
- 1:01Kaji on the other hand...
- 1:03does not eat lies.
- 1:04He's the one being lied to.
- 1:06A loser covered with debt.
- 1:07The two met at the pachinko parlor and Kaji helped Baku win 1000 bucks.
- 1:11So as thanks, Baku helps clear his debt.
- 1:14And he does this...
- 1:172 million yen...
- 1:18✨.
- 1:18Easily won in one game and they do it in spectacular fashion.
- 1:22Now, let's take over the world.
- 1:26Usogui is a manga with a whopping-
- 1:30That's 12 main story arcs.
- 1:32It starts off with these two dudes meeting.
- 1:34Then they go to an abandoned building,
- 1:36an abandoned mine,
- 1:37a labyrinth.
- 1:37Then there's a bull,
- 1:38a TV show,
- 1:39a tower,
- 1:39a ship,
- 1:40a bookstore,
- 1:41an island.
- 1:41The shit they pull off just to gamble is unprecedented.
- 1:44And the games they play aren't just poker and blackjack.
- 1:47That's for casuals.
- 1:48This is the sweats lobby.
- 1:49I'm talking-
- 1:51-where they gamble underwater and the chips are oxygen tanks.
- 1:54-where the man actually gets hanged.
- 1:56There's an entire arc simulating an RPG game on an actual island in real life.
- 2:00These guys are nuts.
- 2:01They bet on perfect timekeeping,
- 2:03on whether any aircrafts will pass by the area.
- 2:05They bet on anything at this point.
- 2:07And amidst these bets, there are referees.
- 2:10Kakerou is a club that oversees the gambling between their members.
- 2:13It's not easy to join this club.
- 2:15You would have to be one of their 48 exclusive members.
- 2:18And once you join the club, you can never leave.
- 2:20They'll actually hunt you down and kill you if you do.
- 2:23But on the flip side, you get full protection from your gambles,
- 2:26meaning you can raise the stakes so high without the fear of getting shot mid game
- 2:29and having your bets taken away.
- 2:31Because the referees are there to protect your ass and make sure everything is fair.
- 2:35You can count on the referees to ensure everything stays within the rules.
- 2:38"Oh, why don't we just kill the referee then?"
- 2:41These guys are professional hitmen, wanted assassins.
- 2:44They're all lunatics.
- 2:45This guy is overdosed on steroids.
- 2:47This guy plays with his own spit.
- 2:48This guy's on a wheelchair...
- 2:50how tf did he even get up there
- 2:52You're not beating any of these guys.
- 2:54Even the weakest link has the skill to take out a group of mercenaries.
- 2:58And the one who stands at the top is who they call-
- 3:01This man has full control of Kakerou.
- 3:03And he's got those bunch of madmen on a leash.
- 3:17Eiichiro Oda wanted to be a mangaka when he was four.
- 3:20Gege Akutami began drawing manga in fifth grade.
- 3:22And Tatsuki Fujimoto started drawing professionally right out of high school.
- 3:26Manga authors usually grow up wanting to be an author.
- 3:29It's always been a dream of theirs and they follow the usual path to get there.
- 3:33This man was a barber.
- 3:35He didn't go to art school or follow the path most authors take.
- 3:38In fact, Sako Toshio only decided to pursue manga seriously in his late 20s.
- 3:43And for the next 11 years of his career,
- 3:45he would go on to perfecting his first serialized work.
- 3:48And when you give a guy that much time to constantly improve his craft,
- 3:52you bet he's gonna go all in.
- 3:59The manga gets better as it goes on.
- 4:01The art style evolved massively over serialization.
- 4:04Early Usogui looks almost like a standard Seinen manga,
- 4:07but later arcs become hyper-detailed.
- 4:09You can see the faces that emit fear
- 4:11or just sheer insanity.
- 4:12They're the ones who are gambling, but it feels like you're trapped in the gamble alongside the characters.
- 4:17Most mangas run on a weekly basis, so it's a given that authors have their hands full,
- 4:21focusing solely on their work every week,
- 4:23and some fall into the pit of self-doubt in the process.
- 4:27This man started boxing.
- 4:30Sako took up boxing while working on the manga, WHILE raising a daughter.
- 4:33THIS MAN IS A GAMBLER.
- 4:35HE'S GAMBLING HIS OWN HEALTH.
- 4:36But he didn't just pick up the sport for fun.
- 4:38Boxing influenced the realism in his manga.
- 4:41That's why the fights are INTENSE.
- 4:43You're not even gonna believe this manga is about gambling.
- 4:45You see how precise the anatomy and impact is in the combat scenes.
- 4:49This is drawn by a man who fights.
- 4:51Sako believe pure mind games eventually become repetitive.
- 4:54So, he makes psychological warfare with real violence.
- 4:57That's why fights in Usogui are so brutal compared to most gambling manga.
- 5:00He wanted the gambling to feel physical and not just intellectual.
- 5:04I was deceived thinking it's just another gambling manga.
- 5:07The characters are cunning.
- 5:08The author is a master of deceit.
- 5:10This manga is The Absolute Art of Deception.
- 5:20The story is essentially just a series of outsmarting.
- 5:23"You thought you've won, but I actually made you think you'd won."
- 5:25"And now you think I've tricked you into thinking that I've won, but actually..."
- 5:29"I made you think that I tricked you into thinking that I've won."
- 5:31"And I've won by tricking you into thinking that I've tricked you INTO THINKING THAT"
- 5:33"YOU'VE LOST!"
- 5:35We're not Baku.
- 5:36We're more like-
- 5:37Kaji.
- 5:38We wanna be like Baku and figure out what he's thinking, how far he's thinking.
- 5:41Why is he tapping his fingers?
- 5:43Why is he checking out the pipes?
- 5:45This man is a gambling prodigy,
- 5:47a master manipulator.
- 5:48He's the ultimate deceiver.
- 5:50Each and every move of his has to mean something.
- 5:52And it always seems like everything is a part of his plan.
- 5:55But when things go south, you start to lose faith.
- 5:58"Maybe Baku hadn't thought this far."
- 6:00"Maybe he miscalculated."
- 6:02Those thoughts circle around your head...
- 6:05And then he rips out the plums and you're like-
- 6:07YEAHHHHHHHH
- 6:09FUGGGGGG YEAHHHHHHHH
- 6:11There's far more depth to Usogui than just gambling for money.
- 6:13The story dives into topics like corruption and criminal activity.
- 6:17Beneath the mind games, there are bad people who are trying to rule the world.
- 6:21So each arc you read in anticipation of seeing how Baku's gonna beat the bad guys.
- 6:25It's almost like a recipe you've seen a thousand times.
- 6:28All that buildup and suspense just for the protagonist to win like it was part of his grandmaster plan.
- 6:33So subconsciously, you figured he'd be all right...
- 6:36but then he starts freaking out and-
- 6:38loses an eye.
- 6:39And it really makes you question,
- 6:40was this a part of the plan?
- 6:43Unknowingly, you've sat at the table with the author and he's playing mind games with you,
- 6:47tricking you into thinking that Baku is always victorious, but before you know it...
- 6:50the main character that we all know is gonna win might just get-
- 6:53stabbed through the throat with a dagger.
- 6:55The more you read, the better it gets.
- 6:57The gambles get bigger.
- 6:58The stakes have never been higher.
- 7:00You feel nervous just flipping to the next page.
- 7:03The story gets so intense that I can hear it.
- 7:05You hear that?
- 7:20They talk a lot in this manga.
- 7:22I mean, there's the character's thoughts,
- 7:23the game's rules,
- 7:24why this character did this, and why did he do that?
- 7:27It's gonna be a long read.
- 7:28If you're not hooked into one of the games, then it's just a blur.
- 7:31And sometimes, it kind of feels like we've lost the plot.
- 7:33I remember a chapter where they were talking about protein and muscle mass.
- 7:37I just started dissociating like my mind was somewhere else...
- 7:39I was thinking about how-
- 7:44it's over 500 chapters and I spent about 3 weeks finishing it.
- 7:48Some days, reading 20 chapters felt like a drag.
- 7:51But towards the end, I was-
- 7:52FLYING through the chapters, itching to read the next.
- 7:55This manga makes you feel a lot of things.
- 7:57The thrill from the gambles,
- 7:59the intensity from the action,
- 8:00and it catches you off guard with how touching it can be.
- 8:04There's a part of the story away from the gambles and away from the fights
- 8:07that just tugs on your heartstrings a bit.
- 8:10Kaji is the opposite of Baku.
- 8:12He's scared, naive, and completely out of his depth.
- 8:15He's a directionless loser drowning in debt and bad decisions.
- 8:19But when you find out that his mom tried to drown him for insurance money
- 8:22and has been financially exploiting him ever since he was a kid,
- 8:25it makes sense how he ended up the way he did.
- 8:27These guys are side characters who are not psychopaths that are willing to gamble their lives away
- 8:32and it makes them human.
- 8:33Some of them just happen to find themselves on this unfortunate path and so you sympathize with them.
- 8:38In a manga filled with chaos and craziness,
- 8:41it's these quiet, ordinary moments that somehow stand out the most.
- 8:46It's really...
- 8:47magical.
- 8:52Life is a series of gamles.
- 8:53Almost every decision we make involves uncertainty.
- 8:56Quitting your job,
- 8:57trusting a friend, becoming a-
- 9:00There's risk in everything we do.
- 9:02No matter how carefully we plan our actions,
- 9:04the possibility of failing still exists.
- 9:08But the possibility of becoming a-
- 9:09fucking billionaire at the roulette table also exists.
- 9:13I swear if you watch a motivational video before a game of poker,
- 9:16you would be just as hyped as hitting a game winner.
- 9:20How far are you willing to go for your beliefs?
- 9:23How strong is your resolve to own-
- 9:24a yacht in Miami?
- 9:25How does one line from a movie fuck up your whole life?
- 9:28I believe if you really, really want something,
- 9:31you would do whatever,
- 9:32and I mean whatever, to achieve it.
- 9:34You see how much the characters risk to get what they want
- 9:37and how much they've lost by getting there.
- 9:39It's a spiral if you look down, but that's not how gambling works.
- 9:42You gotta think about the view, the excitement from coming out on top.
- 9:46It's enough to make your nose bleed,
- 9:47your hair go crazy,
- 9:48and your laughs be hysterical.
- 9:50"oH, WHaT iF yOu lOsE aLL yOUr mOnEY ANd go BaNKruPt?"
- 9:56See, it's all in the mindset.
- 9:57Because if you want to gain a lot,
- 9:59you got to risk a lot.
- 10:04But then again, there are no right or wrong gambles in life.
- 10:07If you're not willing to bet everything on the line,
- 10:09that doesn't mean you've lost.
- 10:11That just means-
- 10:13you're a 😺
- 10:13and you need more motivational edits-
- 10:15What I'm trying to say is...
- 10:16when life becomes a gamble, your choices reveal who you truly are.
- 10:20So, do you stand by the truth...
- 10:23or are you just a-
- 11:06Wow, wasn't that a great video?
- 11:08You know how it could be better?
- 11:10If it weren't copyrighted 6,000 times.
- 11:16-and I have a one-sided love with copyright claims.
- 11:22I swear they love me. They get me every time.
- 11:24So to escape their love, I had to make my videos look ugly.
- 11:27Butcher as much of the video as possible, so it completely fucks up the entire experience.
